I didn't have time to cover it all today mate because my toddler is currently swimming across the living room in chicken curry.

Nice one MK. I am looking forward to part 2, because it looks like Allison will not happen and the other 2 are no where near good enough.

What sort of curry was it? I am Hank Marvin.

My new flavour of the month for gk is koen casteels. Could be a less expensive yet quality gk option.

Well he is only 18months so it was just a Korma! Start 'em young though! He'll be onto Vindaloo in a year or two 😂.

I was hoping it was going to be a more extensive list as not many spring to my mind, I got panned on here last year and probably will for saying it now but I believe we should have gone for Pickford, think we missed out on a good keeper and one that will get better.

we are blessed to have you on this forum mate.

An excellent read that MK, one of your best I think (debatable) . Cheers mate.

I think 18 months is too young for a Liverpool keeper.

Thank you John. Really appreciate that mate.

Cobra, i'll do another 3 keepers tonight after my nightly Game of Thrones binge, and post it tomorrow on my coffee break 😊.

Very good read.

I think you were overly enthusiastic about Karius and harsh about Butland yet they still got the same score.

That tells me a lot 🤝.

Thanks Adam. That was quick. Look forward to the rest. I know you get some grief on here and you have your detractors but you really do contribute a lot to the site.

You think Salah? Never really done an article in that format before so I was hoping it would go down well. Cheers mate.

EpicPotato, he is only 2ft tall but he covers a lot of ground though 😂

Ron, I know you like Butland to be fair. I can't split them myself. Both seem like good young keepers who just need a bit of confidence to rediscover the form that got them so highly rated.

No worries barnesybob. I have been thinking of doing one on keepers for a while so I already had notes. Just needed to write it up and you gave me a kick up the backside to start it when I got home from work! I'll try and post Part 2 around 10-11am tomorrow. I'm planning on doing a Part 3 as well so I can cover about 9 keepers in total.

Good read but I'd disagree with Alisson's sweeping ability. As his reflexes are so good he often stays on or near his line and pulls off an amazing save.
However agree with the rest MK.

Good piece, MK and I loved the focus on certain key aspects of goal-keeping to rate the GK's. As for me, Butland is not and upgrade on Karius. In fact, he is inferior to him, IMO esp. if you compare him to Karius in the system Klopp plays. Karius has issues with reflexes overall as well as ball-handling. Could that be as a result of a mental block with his broken hand? It should not be NUT I don't know.

I also think Karius is quite vocal BUT it is too early to tell cos he's only been playing with his defence on a consistent basis for 3-4 months. Allisson is the better GK, no doubt and to me, if we cannot get him in to sort the position out long term, then we stick with Karius or get in a competent GK (not Butland as he is inferior to Karius) to compete with Karius as that may help him refocus.

Yeah I really liked the new format MK, it made a difference imo, I look forward to the next parts! Keep it up, as always, great work!

I'm jealous, I wish I was watching GoT for the first time again, you're in for such a treat mate!

Agree with Salah regarding GoT, trouble is first time around you miss so many subtle twists and relationships you have to watch it all again to truly figure it all out. Enjoy.

MKS, If Karius were English, do you think he'd be going to the World Cup with the current squad?
Because I don't think he would to be honest.

I'm reading the game of thrones books for the third time. It's fantastic. The series is the best thing that's been on n telly imo, absolutely love it. The books have so much in them I would highly recommend to any fan of the show as there is loads of stuff that doesn't make it into the show.

Oh yeah football site. Looks like our Alison interest wasn't that great as we never made an offer (as far as we know) and macca says it's butland we want. W/ e you think of butland he was never coming here to play second fiddle and I expect if we sign a keeper it will be him. I'd be okay with that, may be underwhelming for some but he is a hell of a shot stopper and is young enough to learn new roles ie sweeper keeper.

MK, I am not convinced we even have a goalkeeping dilemma, what I am convinced of is that many Liverpool supporters think we have a goalkeeping based solely off one bad game.

Personally, IMO, I think Karius is maybe 5 points higher than what you have rated him. I don't believe his presence and handling are as bad as you suggest, I also think his reflexes are a little better than a 6/ 10.

I generally consider him a solid 7/ 10 in most categories, his sweeping and distribution a little higher I would suggest. I have him at a 44/ 60. As I keep saying, I am more than happy for Karius to remain as the number one keeper next season. As I said at the start, I don't believe we have a goalkeeping dilemma at all. Its a perceived dilemma based on the result of one game.

BrisbaneLFC- it’s been much more than one game, certainly exemplified peoples concerns but it’s not the only game he has made mistakes in.

23.) 13 Jun 2018
13 Jun 2018 07:13:27
Brisbane, if it was only one game then there wouldn't have been a debate before the final but people have doubted him since he was dropped last season.

His biggest strength is how quick off his line he is but he's been overrated in almost every other area. His distribution is average, his ball control is very suspect, he crumbles under pressure and he doesn't command his box confidently.

I have little confidence that he'll ever become a top class keeper for us.

24.) 13 Jun 2018
13 Jun 2018 08:40:22
Putney, was there a debate before the final? Must have missed it. I absolutely don't believe we even have a keeping problem. It isn't a priority to fix this summer. As I have said since one minute after the final, I am more than happy to back him in next season. He had a bad game. Big deal. Move on from it and support the player I say. He is nowhere near as bad as many here are making out.

25.) 13 Jun 2018
13 Jun 2018 09:09:59
I don't think we have a problem I think the biggest issue is that final, since then everybody has been going barmy about us getting a new keeper.

I mean of course, I'd love to see Alisson join, the lads in that top bracket but if we can't get him or somebody of that calibre then I really don't have a problem. I think people have been far too judgemental about Karius since the final (to say the least) but I wouldn't mind him as our number one again come next season.

I don't ever see Karius as world class but the lad has potential to be very good imo. It could be worse, we could still have Migs in goal who was in goal for ages, chances after chances, many more failures than Karius. People have short memories. Sure Karius cost us the CL but how many points did Migs throw away due to how useless he was? Karius is the better of the two and deserves more time.

Just like the Fekir deal not happening (so far) if we don't get Alisson people will go off the deep end again and once again the abuse towards Karius will begin. I think we need to support the lad because there's a big chance he'll still be our number one and the last thing we need is him starting the season with zero confidence due to fans not supporting the lad.

13 Jun 2018 10:05:11
Salah, been saying it since the final. Just support our player. He is nowhere near the catastophy people think he is.

27.) 13 Jun 2018
13 Jun 2018 10:07:48
I do agree with you Salah, to a degree.
I remember when Brucie joined and he was all over the place, got us knocked out of the European Cup when we were reigning champions too.
He got some stick from the Kop all right but he came through it. He was hugely athletic and full of life and the team was much stronger than it is now of course.

Karius doesn't have these advantages. He will get targeted next season, there's no doubt about that. It will take a huge effort to pull through it, and a lot of patience from his manager, team mates and the supporters. I don't know how far that support will last if he drops a couple of howlers early on in the season for instance.
He would get massive credit if he does come out of the other side though. I hope he does. Tough one though.

13 Jun 2018 10:17:14
Same here Brisbane mate, I didn't have to forgive him because I never held anything against him. People make mistakes, it happens that's life. It could've happened to anybody, unfortunately it was Karius. End of the day the way I look at it is, he was part of the team what got us to the final not many keepers can say that after coming in when he did. If Migs was in goal would we of got to that final? I highly doubt it. It's a team effort and Karius played a big part in it, he gets my 100% support.

29.) 13 Jun 2018
13 Jun 2018 10:27:34
Yeah that's fair Juicer, I can't disagree with you there mate.

I mean I'm thinking IF he's number one next season, a big if I know, then he's going to prove so many people wrong, I really think the lad is capable but you're right he will certainly be targeted and the pressure will be on. Because of that, I see him thriving, I think it'll boost him because he has a point to prove. I mean it can go one of two ways, the pressure can make you cave in or it can make you thrive, I think he'll thrive from it.

30.) 13 Jun 2018
13 Jun 2018 11:37:02
No one's saying he's a catastrophe, just that his talent doesn't match our ambitions. With the midfielders we've brought in goalkeeper, with the possible exception of a second CB, is the weakest link in our team. It's only natural that it's the next position we look to improve on.

Great read mk hoping oblak is on your list as he is my dark horse to head to england with courtois and alisson wanting moves to spain and will real go in for de gea.
