Whilst I don't disagree with your assessment of Southgates job and credentials, it's hard to say he's not right in what he says. We all know too many clubs spend too much money on average journeyman players whilst talented young players drop into the bottom ranks of football/ drop out altogether having never been given a chance. Quite a few clubs with a very average level of quality across their team would probably do better focusing their budget on bringing in some real quality and giving young players who smash it at youth level the chance to show whether they can transfer that to the senior team.

So, Keown really is as much of a pratt as he seems. Can't believe he got to do co-commentary for the final yesterday. He always sounds like he's won a prize to do some punditry, absolutely clueless. I had to turn over and listen to Hoddle in the end - and that's saying something.
