Good morning ed mate. Looking forward to your review of the day.
Really feel for karius at this stage. What do you think is best for him now. A possible loan back to Germany?

{Ed001's Note - has to be a loan or sale now. Things are not getting any better for him and he is not going to be playing regularly to just push through it. Time for him to go for his sake.}

Even in a pre-season friendly in the US?
That's not good.
I didn't see the game (watched the Shankly programme), was it much of the Liverpool crowd or a minority or what?

Been at a club like Liverpool should've been the time of his life but instead people made it into a nightmare for him. Before he even put the gloves on he had people doubting him, he came back after having a broken hand and people were destroying him even then, it got worse and worse the more chances he was given. If I was him I'd want out asap. I do see him moving on and I think it's the best move for him if he does, I hope he can be mentally strong and crack on with his career elsewhere. The lad is clearly struggling right now, we're not going to have him as number one now with Alisson here so people should calm it down with the digs, he's been through enough.

Call me naive, but the biggest reason I'm a Liverpool supporter is its credo that "You'll Never Walk Alone". Unfortunately, when one of our own underperforms, some fans do the exact opposite of that and intentionally make him feel all alone. Why jeer him at all? It's not like it's going to make him perform better. Would you jeer or insult a family member for a bad day at the office? It's ridiculous. It's precisely when our guy is down that we help to build him up again, or at the very least let him know that he's not alone. Karius tried his best, and even if his best isn't good enough for Liverpool's first team, he's still one of us.

Isn't that what YNWA is all about? Or is YNWA only reserved for players who never make mistakes?

The treatment this guy has received from a section of Liverpool supporters, and the treatment he continues to receive is nothing short of disgraceful. These people should never be allowed to utter the words "you'll never walk alone" as they simply don't know what it means. Makes me ashamed to see how some of his own clubs supporters have treated him and his family.

Can everyone please stop blaming fans for what's happened, it has become an excuse for people who backed him to explain why he hasn't succeeded.

He is not making mistakes because fans were mean to him, fans are being mean because he makes mistakes.

You can argue that we should be more supportive than we have been but there is a sense of hypocrisy with Liverpool players regularly being abused but only the popular ones get a support campaign.

The simple fact was we brought a young goalkeeper of medium talent who we hoped would develop into something better, he never did. After two years the club has decided to move on.

It's a phrase, a slogan that gives the money men a marketing tool and a stick for opposition which stops you from being able to criticise if you deem it necessary. YNWA probably meant a lot more in years gone by when you were shoulder to shoulder with whoever on the terraces, but those days are gone. (Here's where I no doubt get corrected) It came from a song that was popular in the 60's and was adopted as the motto. If there is any more to it than that I'd be grateful to know, but as far as I am aware it is little more than McDonald's using 'I'm loving it' from Justin Timberlake. Dress it up however you like, it is only a slogan.

Having said that, it's not a bad ethos, it just leaves your hands tied if you do want to show displeasure, which is any fans right. Just do it in a respectful manner.

I agree with you, Putney.
With regards to last night's game, I didn't watch it. I watched the Shankly documentary. I have no interest in pre season friendlies, whatsoever. Flying aĺl over the world to make a few bob serves no purpose, in my opinion.
With regards to treatment Karius keeps receiving and as supposedly always received is utter tosh. I go home and away and he's always had the support of those who go. I wish the bloke all the best, if his future is away from Anfield, but please give it a rest about shameful treatment. It's a miniscule minority who post garbage on social media and they are not true supporters and the same can be said for anyone who jeered him at the game yesterday.

23 Jul 2018 07:53:31
So the 2 mistakes he made yesterday were down to the fans? And the couple of decent saves were down to his strong will or technical ability? I don't agree with people constantly barraging him with abuses. He is our player and we must support him; but it is too simplistic and crude to think all his mistakes are down to fans abusing him.

I think someone is going to get a good deal buying karius. Form comes and goes, confidence can be regained, a change in venue can change his life. There's no way we are going to be asking 30million. Someone could probably throw 5/ 6 million at Liverpool right now and I think we will sell.

Karius has huge potential, for his sake I think he should leave England although it will be a shame as I'm definitely going to follow his career. If there's a player out there now who I hope can rebuild his career its karius. I'd be tempted to go to la liga so he could clobber ramos twice a year.

If that concussion really did effect him that badly, not saying it did but if. And let's be honest, loris didn't make many blunders like those two in the season leading up to final then ramos had a lot to answer for.

Helped ruin karius's career.
Took the most exciting player off the pitch and ruined the world Cup for salah and Egypt. What a spanner.

Gerrard's slip cost us the title and he never got jeered! And people got over it. The same should apply for karius. Some people are just putrid human beings! And don't understand how much they have ruined this poor guys life at liverpool and in general. I wish a similar thing to happen to these people or someone close to them, not cause I'm vindictive. Just to teach them a lesson and hopefully make them think about how poor they have treated him.

Do you think Sturidge gets injured because fans are mean to him as well?
This is professional sports. Players are going to be critisized.

23 Jul 2018 09:09:37
There is a difference aussiemark. Not defending the jeerers. But Gerrard was a club legend who had also won us the European cup. Karius had his doubters before the final.

Anyone who thinks it's acceptable to here Karius I'd suggest you read the Robert Enke book a life too short. Being a goalkeeper can be a lonely job and you should consider the effect you may have on someone's mental health. Poor guy needs support from his own fans not to be hung out to dry.

There is nothing wrong with voicing an opinion of any player. The only issue I have with so called fans is when they attack a person personally or their family. That is disgraceful behaviour from people who hide behind keyboards because their own lives are pointless.

I hope he stays and pushes Allison, and becomes an excellent back up but more than that, I hope he learns to love the game again and enjoys some of the success hopefully coming our way. Seeing a world class keeper in training can only be a good thing. It’s dreadful what the lad has faced from “fans” no matter what he did on the pitch. I honestly can’t believe we are still talking about all of this. Let’s just hope he spends the next few months recovering mentally from what happened because as of now, he is shattered. The weight of the world is upon him and on it really feels as though some twisted fans are enjoying his struggles. As though he deserves this hell because they got their precious little hearts broken in a final. I wish they would just suck it up and get on with it. We have a new exciting season to look forward to and he is the second best keeper at the club.

PR for the upteenth time, you are missing the point. I was a Karius fan and wanted him to succeed cos Migs had been crap for 3 years so it was time for a change. Why did I want him to succeed? Same reason I wanted Migs and any other LFC player to succeed. THEY ARE ONE OF US cos if they succeed, LFC succeed. Clearly that is too hard for people to grasp.

I personally, will not defend his mistakes cos they are mistakes and that is that. Me saying that the minority of fans who have been giving him loads of abuse (death threats, wishes for him to have cancer etc), are a disgrace to not just LFC, but to footie as a whole, does NOT mean I am blaming them for his woes. That is just abject nonsense and a failure to engage in any form of critical thinking. If I can move on from SG slipping vs Chelsea (mind you, I am not stupid enuff to think that that act alone lost us the title), then I can move on from Karius making mistakes here and there. Whether it be SG or Karius, a mistake is a mistake, period. It's part of being a grown up.

Things have not worked out for him and part of that is down to him BUT your post saying that people are berating the fans in a bid to defend his play which has been sub par this preseason esp., is downright wrong and unacceptable as IMO, NONE of that is true.

Spot on, Bledd85. Robert Enke's story will break your heart and I would advise those "people" to read his story and the impact their acts can have on a player BUT I know "they" won't.

19.) 23 Jul 2018
23 Jul 2018 11:17:13
Criticism is fair. But abuse? Death threats? Tell him he is worthless, hopeless, should be cast away from the club asap? That's not criticism. That is, unfortunately, becoming an all too familiar narrative coming from LFC fans.

20.) 23 Jul 2018
23 Jul 2018 11:58:56
BRover, you and I are on the same page on this issue but there are a number of posters pushing the narrative that the mistakes he is making is a result of the fans treatment of him. This is just deflection of the primary issue, that he's not doing a very good job.

21.) 23 Jul 2018
23 Jul 2018 12:09:46
No prob, PR. Glad we cleared that up and I will NEVER say that there are not people doing what you say. But we cannot deny that getting death threats from your own fans, CAN affect you mentally BUT that is a separate issue on it's own.

I would rather focus on what these people are doing to destroy this kid's life, pretty much and not focus on the minority using this bad treatment to justify his sub par perfs. Both of these sides are deflecting, in my view.

For the lad's sake he needs to get away from the club - there's no way he can further his career here with the abuse and pressure he's under.

Do you know if any clubs are interested in taking him on loan/ permanently?
