Ed1 i was away at the weekend so I’ve just seen Salah’s disallowed goal from Saturday and I can’t believe the hypocrisy from former referees, Dermot Gallagher in particular.
I remember when Kane was in an offside position last season and Lovren took a wild swipe and sliced the ball Dermot said that rendered him onside even though Alli had played the ball in his direction whilst he was in an offside position.
Salah was in an offside position when Milner shot but then it was cleared off the line then played into his path by a Southampton player yet Dermot says this is an unbelievable spot from the linesman.
Tell me, am I not getting something here or these two incidents fairly similar with the one at the weekend being even more onside than the Kane one?
I’m not crying conspiracy I just get wound up by these blatant inconsistencies and the cover ups that follow in the media 😡.

{Ed001's Note - refs will always stick together. They made up a completely false interpretation to cover up a mistake. They continue to do that every time a ref messes up. It is why refs are so poor, the PGMOL just lies and pretends they got everything right, so how can they expect to improve?}

Ed1 - sorry if I missed this. Completely ignorant on the rules of the game, was Salah's goal at the weekend actually legal?

{Ed001's Note - depends on how the ref feels on the day apparently. Strictly speaking no, but they have come out and said that a touch off a defender would change the usual interpretation to make Salah onside. So, according to the interpretation the PGMOL have publicly stated they are using, yes he was onside. Even though they have not stuck by that interpretation in most matches since saying it.}

I think it is because he had left the pitch and that somehow changes the decision.

Despite the ricochet after the shot from Milner. It is still the same phase of play. Thus Salah gained an advantage ending up where he was when the ball finally got there.
The Harry Kane decision was purely and utterly wrong in every sense of the laws of the game. The jumped up assistant telling John moss the rules haunts me as a fellow referee, especially as the assistant was wrong!
An whilst we are at it, and I’ve been doing my laws of the game questions ( I’ve a big test coming up ) benzemas goal in the final should never have counted.

That’s how it seems to me Ed.
The way they explained the Kane one was because it touched Lovren it started a new phase of play so it rendered him onside.
The Salah one actually came off 2 Southampton players before falling to Salah’s feet so surely that renders him onside?
When it touched the 2nd player (who actually played it into his path to stop a Liverpool player getting the ball) he was back on the field so I just can’t see how that can be offside based their own rules.
Silly thing is we all know the Kane one was offside and I said at the time they are just opening a can of worms by trying to cover up for the hapless John Moss and his even more hapless linesman.
I don’t mind officials making a few mistakes but what comes out afterwards just stinks.

{Ed001's Note - spot on mate. It is just their sheer arrogant refusal to just admit that officials make mistakes.}

Is that because he “challenged” Karius as he was clearing the ball Benny? He actually moved his leg in the direction of the keeper and “impeded” the clearance?

Basically, the mistake was with the Kane goal not this weekend. But I've seen at least 20 goals ruled out identical to Kanes (not all us obviously) and there is never a suggestion that they made the wrong call so, as Ed001 says, the Kane call was just wrong and the justification was also just wrong.

Benny and Ron - I thought the ball is "in play" the moment the ball leaves the GK's hands or foot? We've seen instances where a GK kicks the ball right onto a forward's outstretched foot and the ball goes trickling back into the net. Benzema was easily 4-5 feet away from Karius so I don't know if you can argue that Benzema was impeding the GK?

Hijkle I think you are correct and Salah’s goal shouldn’t have stood but that Kane offside and the attempts to justify the decision still infuriate me even today.
They start talking about phases of play in an attempt to confuse people when really they should be asking ‘was Kane interfering with play from an offside position? ’
Yes he was, if he hadn’t been there Lovren wouldn’t have needed to attempt to clear the ball!
Also ‘did Kane gain an advantage from being in an offside position? ’ Yes he quite clearly did!
If it’s a cock up then just admit it’s a cock up rather than trying to make things up and quote rules that simply don’t apply in that circumstance.
Don’t even get me started on the Mane sending off either! I’ve lost count of how many players have ‘endangered an opponent’ by raising their boot to head height but I’ve yet to see anyone else sent off for it. He was sent off for injury to the keeper not the action itself which is just ludicrous!
Anyway I’ll stop ranting I can feel my heart rate starting to increase to dangerous levels :-D.

{Ed025's Note - poor old liverpool do get picked on bobby, no other team get bad decisions against them do they?, niasse got sent off for a lot less than what mane did but of course that does not count, i have it on good authority that all other clubs meet once a month with the referees in secret and discuss how to stiff liverpool, i think you should contact your MP or write to the court of european justice because this outrage has to be stopped!, i propose a day of national mourning for liverpool fans to reflect on how they get shat on from a great height , bloody disgrace it is mate..

Pity your lot are getting sent off to save their embarrassments ed25 😉.

{Ed025's Note - the 2 sendings off have been very harsh to be fair p1, we could cry and whinge that the world are all against us like some other club i could mention mate, but we are everton and take it on the chin like men.. :)

If I was forced to wear that blue thing every week I think I’d pray for a sending off too!
