Evening all
I don't want to jump the gun with this one but!
With the way Sturridge has started this season looking much better than he has in years .
Is there a chance he may have his contact extended? As his current one expires at the end of the season,
I no it's early days but he does still have some class left in him
He's much more a goal threat than other on the clubs books
Thoughts please one and all.

My honest opinion is he will score goals in the right set up but unfortunately that isn't with us. He doesn't seem quick enough anymore and he doesn't press enough for our system. Unless he has another couple of gears he hasn't shown as of yet. Then you also need him to accept being a back up player which im not so sure he is willing to accept unless he has changed his stance since last season. Undoubtedly our next best option as a goal threat but doesn't fit the system and the requirements needed for me.

jumping the gun! Far too soon.

When was his last good season?
To my memory it was the season before his contract was renewed 🤨
I’d give him a rolling contract 😄.

{Ed025's Note - pay as you play for me ron...which will net him about 30 bob a season mate.. :)

I agree with P1 on this one, Sturridge will always be a goal threat but I don’t think he presses hard enough and I think that he often takes too many touches slowing our attack down. I still think he is a good player but he doesn’t have the explosiveness that he used to have and I don’t think he suits our style of play anymore.

Players get serious injuries, are out for a year or two and everybody forgets how good they were. I noticed sturridge pressing a lot against Chelsea. I was surprised to see him playing that way, the klopp way. I think klopp has finally "broken" him. You know what I mean? He has him playing the klopp way.

He is a striker and is thus judged by his goal scoring record and he is at a goal a game. So "when was his last good season"? Now is his last good season. He was injured, not stopped because he wasn't good enough. It frustrates me so much. He should have scored that open goal but he did score an over head kick. He isn't as fast as he was but he isn't slow either.

He can play anywhere on that front line, left, right or centre. He is well worth having in our squad. He is on high wages so let's be pleased ge is now earning those wages.

Bobby is still number one but I tell you, sturridge is a fantastic player to have on your bench or starting.

Sorry BUT Studge needs to improve a lot before we can start saying "he still has some class left in him) . In the two games he has started vs PSG and vs Chelsea, he easily should have had a hat trick in both games and no one would have blinked. His touch is poor, his first touch is even worse at the moment, and his finishing is simply not good enough right now. Don't know if he can or will improve BUT he had better start sorting these issues out before we can even think about what type of contract he should get here or elsewhere.

He was rightly given a 100k/ week 5yr contract after 2013/ 14.

20 million in wages so far, can’t think of what he’s done in that time. Scored a goal in the Europa final I suppose.

I know he’s good around the dressing room etc but we can get someone to do that role for a lot less than 5 million a year. Hey I’ll do it for 4 million! 👍
He’s a lot to prove before he’s given a new (bigger) contract.

Where have these stellar performances been? He’s been gang average for me. Unfortunately injuries have stopped him from going to the next level. A huge Studge fan but I think he’s no more than a backup. I’m sure he will have his part to play though.

He has scored in every game he has played, in pre season too. Jeez.

To critisise him for missing chances is odd, people must have short memories because he always took 2/ 3 chance to score.
He is a very good option to have on the bench because he is a threat, which will make other teams defenses nervous when he comes on.
He was also always a confidence player, if he can start for for a run of games the goals will come and he will look better. The main positive is that he has scored when he’s played, even looking far from his best. If he can stay fit for the majority of the season he can get 20 goals, that plus our new defensive ability and the goals of the other 3 attackers should have us right in the mix come May.

I would love to know who we gonnna bring in to replaces sturridge if he leaves.

Who would be happy to sit on the bench week in week out behind firmino.

Sturridge is understanding of his non staring role, clearly has ability and offers us skill, knowhow, experience and an ability to play a great paas and can score.

If he stays fit, there is no better option imo as he fits every criteria except pace.

{Ed025's Note - ...and fitness...and workrate...and heart.. :)

The guy scores an over head kick and is getting slated. Weird world. Danny played well, he can dribble and he can pass and he is a great finisher. He also pressed a lot and caused chelski to mess up.

If Bobby gets injured (which strangely never happens) then ds can fill in. Bobby hurt his eye, Danny came in and scored. What more do you want. He has the ability to come deep and orchestrate play. Very skillful. His first touch was a bit off with Chelsea, I'd say he is 90% match sharp.

{Ed025's Note - well danny is after a new contract and i imagine he will be full of vigor and enthusiasm...until its signed of course, then he will return to type..

People knocking him, saying he should have had a hatrick are accidentally praising him. Against two of the world's richest teams, he created 6 really good chances, not to mention the odd 25 yard chips. And he made the ndt bulge against them. Its the defence that need slating. I still can't believe migs wears a Liverpool shirt! I thought lovren might come back from the wc as the "best defender in the world" but no, still just slightly below the required level to take the reds to the top. I like lovren and he is a decent back up cb but I prefer Joe.

I very much doubt sturridge expects a pay rise from us. At some point this season, we'll offer him what we think he's worth, he'll either sign or not sign, that's pretty much it. Whatever motivation he has for playing well (and he is, as a back up forward), if it helps us towards the title, then I'm happy having him around.

Not many footballers agents will let them sign a new contract for less wages than they got 5yr ago. I’m afraid I see the same DS as Ed025.

I think playing for West brom (or playing fifa in the rehab room) was a shock to him. Realised he either plays well or he is finished at the glory end of the league, he could have been playing in the championship if the loan deal was a loan to buy.

He has adapted his game, fair play to the lad. Let's start knocking him when he doesn't score every game.

How about not knocking your own players at all?
Proper "supporter", eh?

I see you having a dig at Lovren in a post above, yet Lovren has clearly contributed more to the team than Sturridge has in the last season or so. Go figure.

Mane, I played the CF position and scoring 2 goals while at the same time, missing 6 other chances is NOTHING to write home about and any CF worth his salt (including Studge) will tell you that. I expect MORE from Studge cos he is that talented in front of goal as he is the best natural finisher STILL in England, talent wise.

Watching the great Ronaldo (the real one) play, taught me that having a great first touch is what scores the goals, not the touch after that. He had the best first touch of any CF I have ever seen. In the chances Studge has missed, his first touch has been poor and that is his problem right now. Now if me expecting Studge to be better and up his game hence, convert more of his chances, is me "knocking" him then I suggest that you go re-evaluate the meaning of the word.
