Hi Reds and Ed's,

Just caught the last half hour of the Holland v Germany game (Sorry guys but I LOVE inter'l footie) VVD scored the first goal in a 3-0 win and was a rock at the back for the last 30 mins at least. Wiji? If people want to know why many of us reds are frequently frustrated with him as a midfielder, check out his goal and judge for yourself. Now, I don't know if his role has changed for us or if Klopp wants him to do a diff. job BUT he should be doing MORE of this as in, his individual brilliance that led to his goal.

Really was a superb goal! Van Dijk was excellent as well but what has happened to Germany?

I think the important part to remember here is that the players obviously want to play them. Sure we technically pay their salaries but I can hardly blame them for wanting to represent their country. I know I'd be the first on the bus if the opportunity arose.

{Ed0333's Note - maybe if the respective football federations had to pay the footballers while they were away on international duty we’d see how many players would be called up. International friendlies have to be one of the most monotonous and mind numbing situations in life.

100% agreed BRover. The lad has far more to his game than he shows us on a consistent basis. I posted only Friday saying he’s at his best when driving at the opposition, and look what happens when he does.

I know what you mean brover. Sometimes I wonder if gini should play that advanced midfield role. Ya know the fekir role. Maybe he doesn't have quite the passing range (although I've seen him play some beauties) but he has an eye for goal. That goal, was it last season or the one before? last game of the season, at home. Nil nil for 30 minutes, maybe more then he got through, to the right and put it in the top corner. I proper cheered that goal. A field roared! Needed the points to qualify. I think migs pulled off a world ie to keep us on front. He was on form then.

Well done vvd, best defender in the world.

Would love to see Gini do more of that for us clearly has the ability, we definitely need more goals from midfield this season.

Wijnaldum has been one of our best players this season. He’s asked to do a different role for the Netherlands, so he probably does get in more goal scoring positions. If anything it’s testament to his versatility that he can easily adapt.

I agree with all of that BRover apart from the loving the international football bit. It’s ruined my whole weekend.

Players say they love playing for there country I wonder if a rule came in to say the club's stopped paying players while there away how many would still turn up.

{Ed002's Note - This is one the usual ideas of Liverpool fans to look at a way to wreck everything that they whine, bitch and moan about. Embarrassing and stupid - yet again.}

It was just a theory don't take it too heart.

{Ed002's Note - It is disrespectful to players who donate their international income to charity.}

Give this new format a chance folks, it’s probably going to become a lot more interesting as the years go on. When I first got into football, internationals were what drew me in first. I’m disappointed in Ireland at the mo under the current regime but for the majority of English fans here, I think it likely that they’ll become further invested in the current structure.

I think the level of England will be found out very quickly. And I I thinking will be relegated. (I also think Ireland will be relegated too) it’ll hurt at first but when England eventually make it back to competing among the elite they will be there on merit. Just a thought.

i don't mind international friendlies. actually think its good for players to get breaks away from the grind of the premier league and the normal routine. I wish I could have more regular breaks in my day job. The bit I wonder about is the frequency of the windows. Other than that I think its fine.

There was a time when national teams were far more important than the local teams (60's, 70's and 80's I guess) . Times have changed and I suppose it's just evolution (fueled by the billions poured into local teams since then) . But I'll bet my last sterling pound that the sentiments expressed on this page would be vastly different if this page had been around in 1966. 😁.
