Can I just flip the coin on the Origi to Spurs talk? (Rant Alert)

Origi has apparently attracted interest from Wolves, Fulham and West Ham. If Spurs are genuinely interested in a deal we should do business. We have to think of the player for me. How many other Champions league big hitters are looking at him? Do we no longer care about his wishes/ career if he leaves? They are 9 points behind us. So what if it helps them out? If we drop enough points for them to make that kind of gap up, it will be irrelevant because Man City will go past us way before Spurs do.

Alternatively, if Spurs are interested in a loan, let him go and get regular football for a couple of months. Playing in a top class team which deploys their centre forward as a focal point would really suit him. He'd get a raft of chances and potentially kick on to come back to us a better player. Here is the best bit though; if it did go well and Spurs started taking points off our rivals, he'd be ineligible to play against us anyway.

Maybe the argument is that we'd be short up top? But I don't get That either; we have Mane, Firmino, Salah, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Jones, and Camacho all availabke right now who can play in a front 3. Jones and Camacho have been shining in first team training for 12 months now and Klopp has blocked loans for them this month because he wants to give them more minutes in a red shirt. "But they're just kids" I hear you say? Just kids? Like Sancho, Mbappe, Rashford, and our very own Alexander-Arnold were when they started putting seasoned pro's to shame at 18 years old? People talk about City's incredible depth up top, but it's all because Pep was prepared to trust then teenagers like Sane/ Jesus, and now Foden.

Lallana, Brewster and Chamberlain will be back fit in the coming months as well. Brewster signed a new deal and rejected first team offers from Germany on the pretence that he will get first team opportunities so that can't be brushed under the carpet. Even Keita, Wijnaldum and Milner have all played left wing this season so we are far from short stocked if Origi was to leave. Maybe we as fans can question the quality of the back up options because that is entirely subjective, but the quantity of options Klopp has put his faith in, is undeniable.

If Origi has the chance to reboot his career at a top club under a great manager, let the lad go with our blessings and good luck wishes. He's more than repaid his £10m transfer fee with merseyside derby goals alone! Sorry for the rant guys and I don't expect everyone to agree because this whole post is built on an opinion as a foundation. I just had to get that one off my chest.

If they really want him he can go at the end of the season.

We have sold Solanke, if we sell Origi to Spurs that makes us short. Do you really think Spurs will give Origi a future? He’s a short term signing to cover the loss of Kane. They don’t care about the player.

Yes respect Origi and his wishes but not to the detriment to our club.

The club’s best interests come first in my opinion.

MK, you quite rightly highlight the overall strength of our squad put together by Jurgen Klopp, consisting of a mixture of those bought in over a number of transfer windows and those developed through our academy. Spurs did not buy a single player in the last transfer window, preferring to spend the money on their shiny new stadium. That strategy has rebounded on Spurs who now find themselves with a shortage of front-line strikers. Personally, I think the link with Origi is complete nonsense, dreamt up by a lazy journalist during what is a very quiet transfer window, but if I’m wrong and there is interest, why on earth would Liverpool contemplate helping out the team who are currently third in the PL, 9 points behind us with 48 points still to play for? And yes, Ravi123, letting Spurs have one of our main back-up strikers would be helping them. Looking after the career interests of one of our players is very laudable but not if in doing so we hand a major competitor a way out of a problem of their own making. We must be ruthless in pursuit of the PL title.

You make some valid points there, MK. I don't think it is a rant, really. Just giving an opinion backed up by valid arguments. I don't know what plan Klopp has for Origi for this reason and only time will tell. I will say that it would be worth keeping Origi if it means he gets to ruin Ed25's derby day one last time, lol.

Personally in think going to Spurs would be jumping out of the fying pan and in to the fire. The second Kane is even 50% fit Origi would be on the bench and forgotten. Any striker who wants to play week in week out would be mad to go to Spurs.
As for helping him reboot his career why should we? He’s under contract with LFC and as such should work hard to help the team in any way he can. It’s his job and he gets paid very well for it.
I really hate this holier than thou attitude that we should give players a leg up in their careers and allow them out whether it’s at the detriment of the club or not.
The onus is on the player to make himself indispensable. If he is unwilling or unable to do that we can’t be held responsible and we certainly can’t weaken our squad and strengthen a main rival just for the good of one player.

If we are getting a new forward in this window or Wilson is being recalled from loan? then it makes sense to let Origi go now. If not, we keep him coz our squad depth will take a hit. Whether a Spurs move is right or wrong for the player, that's for Origi to decide, not us.

Is it that detrimental though Ron?

In the second half of last season we had loaned out Sturridge and Origi. Behind our front 3 we had Ings, Solanke, Lallana, Ox and the kids; but Lallana was injured until March/ April.

If by February 19 we have sold/ loaned Origi and Solanke we'd have Shaqiri, Sturridge, Lallana, Ox and the kid; but Ox is injured until March/ April.

It's the exact same number of players to be fair and there must be a reason Klopp refused to let Camacho go on loan to Sporting and then involved him in every squad since then.

You ask a fair question on how much of a future they could offer him, but Origi has stagnated at Liverpool. Lloriente won't be there much longer at 33 and being second choice to Kane might be preferable to being 3rd choice behind Salah and Sturridge. My point is that it should be Origi's decision to make about what is best for his future. We shouldn't block a move to Spurs (as a lot have implied) because we are insecure about our league position.

This is probably all redundant anyway because I tend to agree with Wirral Wonder that the link is lazy journalism. I just don't think we should hold players with no long term future at Liverpool to ransom.

Redwolf, Maybe if they master cryogenics we could just put him into storage and defrost him every time the derby comes around? 😂.

I think this is just lazy journalism at its best. How would Spurs know what his qualities are when he has barely played for us in the entire time he has been at Liverpool?

Why on earth would we sell Origi to one of our current rivals? Spurs have a striker issue which could be detrimental to their seasons’ ambitions - let's not help them out with that problem.
There are hundreds of possible scenarios where it could come back and bite us: lose a few games and we’re fighting for Top 4 with them; or Spurs go on a winning streak and they might be competing with us for the title; or an injury to Salah and Firmino and our forward line looks a lot less potent. ; and so on.
Tottenham still pose a threat to us this season and Divock is a good option on his day but he's a better option for us on our bench.
Lets get to the end of the season and then think about his career and transfer wishes. Hopefully, we’ll be sending him off with a Winners medal and all our blessings. Right now, he has a contract with LFC and the last place he should be moving to (this season of all seasons) is one of our title rivals.
Leagues can be won on very fine margins sometimes (just ask Michael Thomas and Sergio Aguero) and if the stars align and the Spuds somehow win the league by one point, I couldn't cope if it was an ex-Liverpool player scoring the winning goal.

{Ed025's Note - if you could get £5m then bite their arm off virgil, not only would you be getting rid of a useless lump of lard but also lumbering one one of your rivals with an absolute waste of space...win win imo..

A good move for Origi would be Sevilla or the hammers at the end of the season though. Both need a striker, Both play decent football, both have decent managers. Worst move for him would be spurs where he would become a Jansen or llorente as soon as Kane is fit. Also we yet have the need for Origi this season, we have one more game against everton :) . He should win his EPL medal with us and then think of his future. Also none of Lallana, Ox and Shaq are his direct replacement. You are confusing a striker with forward players. All strikers are forward players but not all forward players are strikers. Whenever he plays for us he creates chances and sometimes crucially scores. 'd keep both him and studger at the club this season because they both have roles to play. Imagine if we thump bayern 5-0 in the first game, don't you want players to get some rest for the return fixture?

{Ed025's Note - a good move for him would be accrington mate..

If he wants to leave then that’s his agents job and if Spurs want him then maybe a swap with Son, Alderweireld or Trippier will work for us 👍.

{Ed025's Note - are you kidding me ron?, thats not a swap thats daylight robbery, if you were offered a mars bar for origi...i would take it mate..

After watching them both play for us in the game cup am not sure I would want to be left with Sturridge. I know Origi wasn’t brilliant either but out of the two he’s the one I would want to keep as cover.

I disagree MK. We have been lucky with injuries in the attacking areas but after selling solanke, if we sold origi would you be happy placing your faith on Danny sturridge and his iffy knee? Coz after him there are only youth players. I truly believe Bobby Duncan will be the next fowler/ Owen but it may be a little too soon for him. Brewster also has bags of talent but his inexperience is the issue again.

Okay shaq can play in the front three, lallana at a push, maybe Keita but none are proper strikers.

If we sell origi we need to loan in a CF imo, so why go through all that?

And also, spurs are a rival with an outside chance of making a challenge (not going to happen but still) they've lost Harry kane, eff em. If we lost salah would they loan us lamela or son? Of course not. We should go in for Eriksonn next summer though.

Hazard to Madrid, so that leaves Barcelona and juve, City and us. If I were him I would stick to the league I know. Also, the afore mentioned teams are filled with prima Donna's and big egos. Stay with spurs or come to us.

Well we’ve all heard how much you love a Mars bar 25 😉

This is Daniel Levy’s club we’re talking about here. He’s always totally unreasonable with his negotiations. So he can taste some of his own medicine 👍.

If we can get a replacement for him then I can understand letting him go. But short of that, it doesn’t make sense to me. Saw a comparison to last season but that’s comparing apples and oranges. Last season we focused entirely on Champions league. This season we’re attempting to balance both. Additionally we didn’t have any major injuries to the front 3.
This season we have shaq as our only real credible back up for me. Ox is a very good option but after a year out, he’ll need time to get up to speed so can’t depend on him.
The likes of sturridge and lallana just aren’t at the required level for me.
And whilst jones / Camacho may have done well at youth level, it’s a major step up to this level.
Personally I’d like to hold on to him until the end of the season as he’s the best of our back up after shaq.

Lallana can’t stay fit and both Brewster and Oxlaide-Chamberlain will be coming back from a year out of football, we can’t count on any of these players contributing anything this season.
Origi had a chance to go to Wolves in the summer and he turned it down, he’s made his choice. The club doesn’t owe it to him to do what best for him they owe it to themselves to give the club the best chance of winning the league this season.
Origi can leave in the summer if he wants to go.

Ed25 I can see a future for Origi at Everton. I'm sure Jordan Pickford would welcome him with open arms.
