Great article - lovely to read about some of these events of days past. That tackle was pure assault. he clearly jumps after the ball is past him, and away from the path of the ball and into the player, turning his hip into him as he goes. Brutal.

Great read, Ed. I lived in France for 5 years and trust me, NOBODY mentions Schumacher's name when talking football. The anger of the pundits just grow. What he did to Battiston (I knew he lost two teeth BUT did not know about his other injuries and his coma) and his disgusting behavior afterwards, was just too much to bear.

{Ed001's Note - still it might have been a slight overreaction to have him as more hated than Hitler!}
