"{Ed001's Note - offload Matip or Lovren and bring in someone to fight for the place with Gomez and VVD. }"

Totally agree there ed. And this for me should be the logic with our main recruitment.
We have to sign players good enough to fight for and earn a starting position in the team, even if it means displacing the current starters, as long as it improves the side.

The mentality of a mere "back up" happy to play second fiddle and the equally annoying "where's he going to play" is why when VVD, Mane, Salah, Firmino and Robertson don't play there's suddenly a 80% drop in quality. Differential between "first" and "second, third" picks is Pacific ocean-ic.

I get that we probably may not get exact VVD quality, but you got get something not too far off, 40% at most.
Any higher and you in trouble.
Presently only Gomez comes satisfactorily near VVD. Rest are a long, LONG way off. As is Alisson/ Mignolet.

So I don't get why when we linked with a forward of "top" quality questions arise about where he'll play/ if he'll be happy to sit on the bench.
IF i. e that "top" quality is Werner/ Bailey/ Dybala/ Pepe/ Son, why couldn't he outperform any of Mane/ Firmino/ Salah and earn a starting place? Why couldn't they prove good enough and better for the team?

Sure, don't fix what's not broken. But you surely can (try to) improve it?
Or are we saying there's players guaranteed starting spots and that Klopp's ideas are cast in stone with no flexibility?

There's been occasions when Salah/ Mane/ Firmino weren't playing well and may of been benched, but for want of quality to replace them.

It's common knowledge amongst us that team is looking for a CB, rightly so. Many regard VVD and Gomez as top rank. I've seen many on here punting Koulibaly, De Ligt and Aldeweireld. All very good CBs. But so far no one questioning where, if signed, any of those 3 would play seeing as we already got 2 "class" CBs.

They probably figure that it's Gomez who'd make way/ be rotated more often.
Well I figure as well that if a top rank forward were to be signed, they may prove better than/ outperform the currents, or they may not. Or maybe all four could prove deserving of a start and Klopp may make a tweak or two.
Keep in mind as well that none of Mane, Firmino, Salah are "proper" centre forwards.
Origi and Sturridge could be deemed to be.

Sturridge was done by injuries. Fit and in his element, there's no better centre forward in the division. He WOULD have been a starter in this team. He may have been our own version of Aguero.
Kills me how unfortunate he's been with the injuries.

Many remember that season for Suarez brilliance, rightly. But for me Studge really stood out. Man was unreal. First time got a proper shot at his preferred role and troubled little by injuries, boy did he shine, and shine brightly he did.

What I'd give to have THAAT Sturridge in this team.

I think Klopp will look at a more traditional (starting) forward and then promote Brewster. Sturridge and Origi will leave.
Bobby will assume a sorta 2nd forward, perhaps more play making role. Salah I see reverting to the wide right forward he played mainly in maiden season. Mane will keep left.
Of course there be fluidity and interchanging.

Don't see any attacking mid. Depending on opposition and desired tactics, Fabinho, Keita and Chamberlain will probably be our regular midfield, especially against non-top 6 defensive fodder.
Wijnaldum/ Henderson may come in against the big boys.

Once Keita is fully up to speed and Ox back for and goring, I think we set. Mind you, there's Trent as well, who's seen in mid long term.

My worry is at both full backs. Moreno needs no discussing. Yeah sure Fabinho can "fill in" at RB. But is that enough? We need our best DM/ HM in his best position. In any case, would he be as good? As per ed01 suggestion with VVD and Gomez, I think we should go and buy a RB and LB who'll fight Trent and Robbo for a starting position.
How would that be bad for the team?

Sorry for the long post fellas.

I am hoping we can see adam Lewis Step up as the back up left back as he is well thought of at the club!

I agree on right back but I think we will get someone who can cover cb as well. Trent is obviously first choice but it Clyne will leave so have a space for someone to come in especially given the changes required for cb.

Camacho will be good cover for right back, can see him breaking through next season.

I don't think the issue people have is playing a CB, it's more who can we get and afford who is of the quality you speak off. As Ed002 has pointed out, we cannot go and spend vast amounts again without selling.

Thing is Jonesred Camacho is a midfielder-winger, we don't want another Alberto Moreno on the right side do we .

Good post. Maybe I'm on my own, but I would be happy to see VVD and Gomez starting pair with Matip as back up and the other slot available for a youngster to step up and fight. Maybe Matip won't be happy without being first choice, but that's where he's probably at for a top 6 club. He could get game time elsewhere, but not on his wages (I don't know what they are) .

We need to have paths for young players to have ambition. Why would a talented 16 year old sign for us if there are a nailed on 4 quality CB's in front of them for years? They'd surely know they're likely to be loaned out and then sold.
