Very fair review. He does seem to be a very smart footballer. thank you for this.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

Thanks ed that was a good read as per usual, he definitely gets some unfair stick he's played well in every role ever asked of him.

{Ed001's Note - thank you, I have never understood why he gets so much stick. He doesn't score enough I guess, which means he doesn't get on the highlight reels on youtube.}

Motm for me last night, id only just said this season could be his last with us then he shut me up.

Thanks ed. Love these player profiles, always make me think a little extra about players. I'm acc a big fan of Hendo, my da and brother are Sunderland fans and they raved about him when he was there. Can hopefully add some more trophies this season and next as I don't see him around at us too much longer.

I think it's been mentioned on here in the past ed but do you remember sir Alex's comments about hendos style of running? Was that utter bollocks or was he speaking sense? Just odd that Hendo has had heel problems with us before.

{Ed001's Note - heels problems are nothing to do with Fergie's comments. Fergie was bitter as Hendo rejected his attempts to tap him up on a couple of occasions then went and signed for us. Fergie saw that as a slap in the face, it wasn't, it was just Hendo felt he was not ready to leave Sunderland when Fergie spoke to him. When Liverpool stepped in to buy him, he was not just ready to leave but the club were in need of the funds so asked him to make the move. Perhaps if Fergie would have gone through legitimate channels (which is something Klopp should also learn from!) he would have got his man as Sunderland would likely have taken the money and asked Hendo to make the move so they could get some money in.}

Superb last night. Covered so much ground and broke up so many potential threats.

Yeah I suspected the comments were our of bitterness. Cheers for clarifying.

Just like he said gerrard isn't a top top player. Excellent manager but a miserable old mman.

Hendo was imperial last night. Another sign out of many, that those who give him stick know NOTHING about his ability and the job he does for the team esp. if they use the old, tired comparison of "he does not grab the game by the scruff of the neck" . You mean like last night? . Or "As capt. he should be able to play a telling pass for us to score and win the game". I mean, what does that nonsense even mean? Or "His crossing is way off". As if a DM, is supposed to be able to cross like Ryan Giggs.

Does Hendo have flaws? Sure and we can we can debate them BUT using pathetic measureables to judge him, just shows that these people are not making good-faith arguments. Just made up talking points to slate him with.

Brilliant read Ed, this might, just might, shut all the haters up! I love Hendo, he's a quality player and up there with Firmino and Alisson for me. All vital players, it's just when it comes down to Firmino and Hendo people don't pay attention enough to what they do on the pitch, instead they judge them on goals or compare to others (Hendo to Gerrard) etc etc, it's bloody daft. Anyway, once again, brilliant cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - naw people will just hate on him because he runs funny and replaced Gerrard as captain.}

I really like Hendo as he has been showing excellent tactical operation ability.

good to read but it wouldn't shut the haters up. they would probably just skip the articles and keep mentioning the bored 2 yards pass.

Salah, you are wrong. Hendo's upteeth MOTM perf. last night will NOT shut the haters up any time soon. These people cannot be reasoned with on a good-faith level cos they know they have NO cogent arguments to support their dislike for Hendo on a football-level so they come up with nonsensical talking points, to shift the goal posts cos well, they will NOT be happy until Hendo is sold so they can say "I told you he was crap hence, why he was sold".

They have made up their minds on him and even if he scores a belter (like he did vs Chelsea in 16/ 17) or gets us over the line vs Bayern, all they would do is be silent and then, shamelessly come back to slate him after he has a bad game. It's who these people are, IMO.

Nice one Ed cheers.
I think Hendo’s got better and better in the holding role and last night was outstanding. His anticipation of where to be to stop counter attacks is second to none and we don’t have another player that can do what he does in that regard.
It makes me fume when people say he only passes sideways, they fail to understand his role in the team. When there’s no pass forward on, a lateral pass can open up gaps and that’s his job, to stop counter attacks and keep the ball moving to open up spaces.
As the holding midfielder you simply can’t attempt risky passes as much as you can playing further up the pitch as if you lose it you’re in big trouble.
He’s not perfect but he’s an integral part of our team when it’s functioning at its best.

The problem is most people feel Hendo is replaceable by a better player and he gets the stick for not being an Alonso. I have a friend, LFC fan and well not the biggest fan of Hendo and he is always on about players we could look to replace hendo with.
It was the same with Lucas who did so much dirty work but was never given that credit.
Loyalty is not much appreciated these days. He is our longest serving player and with very credible reasons but that doesn't mean jack to some fans.
Salah mane bobby will leave us someday but hendo will be still be there. How many players can back you like that?
And then there is the ability. He is that one player that all the big teams need, No sparks and frills, just workrate and passion.

Love Hendo, always have, he'll only ever be truly appreciated when he isn't there. For me the year we ran the title close, we lost it with Hendo's red card at Utd rather than the slip.

Henderson is good at interceptions but lacks bite when tackling for a holding midfielder but he has grown into the roll

Just a question for ed001 with Hendon and jorginho both playing to deep I remember xabi playing quite deep and picking passes is this just teams sitting back or Alonso just been better then most.

{Ed001's Note - Alonso is a whole different level, he is probably the best player in that role of all time.}

NOBODY can play that DLP the way Xavi played it. Oh and on an aside, Jorginho is NOT in Hendo's league. The guy is dreadful and overrated to the point of the absurd.
