Think that rating for Keita was a bit generous, he was ok, but think he ended on 73% pass completion, which is poor and saw a lot of good opportunities going forward wasted.
Really hope he kicks on, he clearly has some ability!

{Ed001's Note - it is not poor for someone on the run attacking opposing sides. It is about normal.}

Ed01, a first rate assessment of each player with succinct and accurate comments on the performance of each. I might have a minor quibble about your assessment of Robbo, I didn’t think he was quite that bad. Perhaps you could have a word with Ed025 and explain why Bobby Firmino actually played well - from earlier posts, it is clear that Ed025 doesn’t seem to understand or appreciate Bobby’s role in the team. And while you are at it, could you also point out what very good players players we have in Wijnaldum, Fabinho and Keita?
Finally, I thought the Italian referee had a very good game and showed up the Premier League’s so-called ‘elite group’ for what they are.

{Ed001's Note - go back and watch how pathetic his waved foot was in the direction of Gnabry, then you will see why I was so annoyed with Robbo. He never even tried to stop him.

As for Ed025, he thinks Richarlison is top class and Andre Gomes the next Iniesta and Xavi combined, there is no point discussing players with him.}

Good read Ed001.

It’s a shame we couldn’t put the game to bed. I agre, the game flew by!

Even though the stats say teams that get a draw away from home in the flrst leg ( especially 0-0) tend to go through, I still think we’ll have enough to get through.

Great review Ed01 and interesting how we all view things differently. I must admit i thought Trent was poor also in the game, constantly gave the ball away and his body positioning when defending in that game, to me, always looked wrong. Hendo and Fab were both excellent.

Ed001, with VVD back in line up, what will be your starting line up and system against United? . I will go with 4-3-3. But will it be Fab-Hendo- gini, Fab-Gini-Keita or Hendo-Gini-Keita. I think last one is least favorite.

{Ed001's Note - far too soon to say mate, we can manage to lose half a squad over night!}

Cheers Ed001, much more in line with how I saw the game. Saw some pundits describe the game as a 'tactical masterclass' by Bayern which baffled me. Liverpool had much better chances and Bayern rarely threatened an extremely makeshift defence. Full of confidence going to the Allianz, especially with Van Dijk back.

Thanks ed was looking forward to this one! intriguing game. hopefully the lads were saving their shooting boots for Sunday.

Great review Ed, I agree especially about Robbo and Hendo. Robbo was poor and needs to up his game on Sunday, in my opinion that was probably his worst performance in a Liverpool shirt! But he does more good than bad so he can be forgiven.

Hendo, he was just unreal and gets MOTM for me too.

Overall a great game of football, we got a clean sheet, klopp got it right, time to pounce when we visit them and embarrass them at their own ground. Our defence will be more solid with VVD back, they'll try to attack us more so we'll use that to our advantage, counter them and send them packing. Roll on the second leg.

Ed excellent review, I agree with Robertsons review. to me he looked like he was scared to make tackle because he didn't want to pick up another yellow card and miss the second leg.

{Ed001's Note - you make a very good point there and something I never considered. It makes sense of just how bad his attempts to challenge Gnabry were.}

Agree about Robertson. At one point he turned his back on Gnabry and let him run inside him while his back was turned. Awful awful schoolboy defending. Hendo was outstanding. I go into the second leg feeling v confident. I feel it will be difficult for bayern to have a game plan. They go for it and we hit them on the break. If they try and nick one and shut up shop and we equalise late they're out. Feel like it plays into our hands.

I actually think you underrated Kimmich. He was trying to cope with a rampant mane ( not many defences can) and I feel he’s a real leader in that team. I seriously think he’s about as big a blow as they could have for the next match. Same as is on the scale missing VVD.

Ed01,I was in the Main Stand, towards the Kop end, so Robbo’s failure to deal with Gnabry in the first half was right in front of me. I have replayed those incidents in my head and I guess you are right. It is a very good point made by ptane that Robbo was a yellow card away from suspension and that may have inhibited his tackling. Like Salah, I consider Robbo to have so much credit in the bank that I was probably cutting him a bit too much slack. No doubt he will be back to form on Sunday.

Ed 01 what do you think of Salah as our coner kick taker? His swinging coner kicks are no good at all. Coners are opportunities that should not be wasted.

{Ed001's Note - yet we created chances from corners, how are they no good?}

" you are only as Good as your last game "- Bill Shankly, he quoted this because it defines " Consistency " and is also an old professional footballers ADAGE! whom am i to disagree with a Legend.

Great Review Ed, two points for me though.

1. The silly side show Matip/ Lewandowski where having, who can draw the most non-existent foul from the ref was embarrassing.

2. Why is Salah on corner duty? He rarely beats the first man let alone pick someone out, he doesn't seem to strike the ball cleanly enough to be on corners? Surely he would do more damage in and around the box?

Enjoyed reading that Ed. Agree on pretty much everything you’ve said really.

Robertson has been bang out of form for a little while now but sadly we don’t have enough quality to give him some time on the sidelines.

Alisson - I feel he’s so comfortable with the ball at his feet that people like Matip hide behind that and pass him into pressured situations instead of taking some more responsibility.

Wiji - so good at points but I’ve shouted at the tv a few times recently when he’s bottled taking the shot when he’s in the best position to score.

Overall a decent result and I think favours us more than Bayern despite what the media and pundits would have us believe!

I personally wouldn’t have scored our front three as high. First half was good, though the finish was missing but there was a real drop off in the second half.
Having said that, the depth that Bayern retreated to achieve this saw their forward momentum muted too.
Whether they adopt the same approach at home will be telling. I think they will and look to hit Liverpool on the break.
If we were able to score first, that would tear up their game plan.
A real cagey tie this, we need a midfielder to get a goal.
Maybe a set piece or penalty will decide this one?

Good review Ed001. Can’t see anything I disagree with there.
I’m really looking forward to the next leg now are you? Looks set to be a classic to me.

{Ed001's Note - I am just hoping Bayern actually come out and play at their place.}

Not to far out with what i though but salah was a 6 same with mane for me

Mane missed chances the difference of winning and drawing and salah wasted the ball with a final shot or pass and was bottled using his right foot and went to cross with the left on what would of been a great chance for me anyways

That's why I like the site good discussions.

Does anyone know when yellow cards (Robertson) reset?

Also, Ed001, do you think that Klopp has instructed players to be braver in taking people on? I have been slightly frustrated in recent games with Keita holding on to the ball too long, and TAA gave a good example against Bayern trying to walk through the whole team! Then I thought back to earlier in the season also being frustrated by our midfield always seeming to choose the ‘safe’ option. Yo can’t have it both ways I guess, so the team should be commended for being braver, taking risks and trying to go past the opposition, as if it works the rewards are higher?

{Ed001's Note - yes it is very much a Klopp principle that players should be brave on the ball and not always look for the safe option. He wants them on the ball driving at the opposition.}

THank you, Ed01 regarding Robbo. He was dreadful all game long, IMO. In fact, I think Robbo's level has dropped for the past few games as his defending has gotten worse and his delivery is far from what it was earlier in the season (6 assists this season) . Also, the way he let Gnabry skip past him w/ o even putting his body against him was embarrassing. Already vs B'Mouth, he allowed Ibe and Adam Smith skip past him w/ o breaking a sweat and had it not been for VVD or Keita, it could have been dagerous for us.

I don't know if him being on the edge of suspension in the CL made him defensively gun-shy or if his stupid foul in the Leicester game are affecting him BUT he needs to buck up and get back to his best and the player we all know he can be cos his half-arsing stuff ain't going to cut it.

Apart from all that, I thought Hendo was MOTM and bossed their midfield and that on another day, we could have put 3 past Bayern cos well, they were that poor. Looking forward to the second leg cos Bayern will HAVE TO go for it, something Kovac as you say, is averse to as he is conservative in his thinking.

Just wanted to agree on a couple of points. The first one being the one area of robbos game that needs improvement is that he doesn't stop many crosses which i always thought was one of the full backs primary jobs?
Also re the corners it as if we have a plan to hit the man on the near post for a flick on rather than mix it up or put it straight in the mix for one of the centebacks to attack. Just my thoughts that's all.
