So that puts Mane leaving to bed then.

Matips awerness is dodggy at best.

Matip was very shaky, TAA didn’t have a good game either. Turning point was Milner and Hendo coming on, our midfield looked poor prior to that.

Ores, Matip was abysmal ALL game long. Frankly, VVD might as well play w/ o a partner as he is babysitting him too much. I would rather Lovren come in now if Gomez is not ready cos right now, Matip is no longer possible for us, IMO.

I thought Matip was shaky first half but did ok second half, I don’t recall Southampton having a chance second half.

{Ed025's Note - he was crap all game to be honest smeg..

Get Gomez back in there.

Matip was shocking. At this point, I'd rather have an unfit Lovren in the starting 11. Move Matip on and sign a young CB like Dael Fry or Ben Goddfrey who we can develop and help fill the English quota.

Matip got given an 8 in sky’s player ratings, the highest rating!

{Ed025's Note - that just proves everything we thought about sky cobra, clueless bunch of chancers mate..

Spot on, Ed25. Don't know what game others were watching. There was a reason why Long played on him ALL game long till he came off. The guy does his best BUT he is piss poor, period. Like I said before, Matip is no longer possible anymore at CB. He just isn't. hopefully, either Gomez or Lovs can come in.

{Ed025's Note - he is a weak link red wolf, he is getting away with it at the moment mate but how long that will last is anyones guess, eden hazard is just the type to take full advantage of that..

Poor old Matip . must be a nightmare having a bad game, every game and before the first whistle has even been blown, in the eyes of some supporters .
He may not be VVD level, even Gomez, but give the lad a chance!?
Klopp must see something in him to keep him in the team ahead of a World Cup finalist, who can have shaky moments himself, let's not forget!
In my opinion he didn't have the worst of games last night and he played ok. Ala pass for Bobby on hendo'd third goal.
His positional sense let's him down but I thought he was the better if the defenders last night.
I hate the way that there always has to be one player who the fans have to jump on - even when it's going better than ever?!

Get behind the lad rather than kill him with the same old critism every single week!

I know I'm committing cardinal sin by having a different opinion to Eds and some of you but we're in an amazing position and should be supporting all the boys!?

YNWA.

I have said this before regarding Matip, but more often than not he is defensively sound, it's his decision making which let's him down; he always seems to feel that he has to do something special with the ball before he passes it. He needs to take a leaf out of VVD's book and keep it simple 99% of the time. VVD used to have similar flaws to his game in his early days, but has become a colossus through discipline and simplicity. For me, he's not a starter, but a decent backup.

Fair play silly milly. His performances against bayern alone. Ot put him right up in my estimation. Kicked lewandowski off the park.

agree with RW and Ed025. Matip had done decent in some games, but his performances has been dipping (at a funny time too when Lovern and Gomez are back, thought he did up his game more) .

Put him up against Chelsea and he'll be caught upfield when Hazard sells him with a pass and move (just like Kane did recently) . I had absolutely no idea what he was doing all game last night, especially when we conceded. yes, some will point to his mazy run (solitary, and when he tried that again a few times in the game, he opened us up to counters), and others to the long punt that resulted our the 3rd goal. But as a CB, i expect the player to 1st and foremost defend, keep a clean sheet, give confidence to the players ahead to do their job, but he seems to be shaky, jittery and clumsy at best.

i get supporting our players thru and thru but having glimps at how he looked lost when they scored is heart breaking. The reality is that the team has developed passed him and opposition is targeting him as the weakest link in the team. not every1 is meant to be part of growth and some will just fall behind.

Spot on, Ores. Notice that Spurs attacked his side a lot. So did Saints. If those defending Matip think Chelsea, Porto and every other team we will be facing, have not seen that then they are deluding themselves. I think Lovs should come back in cos even tho he could make a mistake (Matip has made tonnes more mistakes BUT he i getting away with with them cos of VVD), he is a better CB, a better all round defender, aggressive and ruthless.

Matip lacks competitive edge IMO.
A 6 ft odd defender should not be easily beaten in the air by 5 ft 7 Shane Long. Not only is he easily beaten, he doesn’t even compete.

I can forgive an error prone dodgy defender but I can’t forgive a player who doesn’t contest a header with a player who is 7-8 inches smaller than him.
