Ed 001 97 points this is unbelievable how do we seriously improve on this team? What do you think we need to do to better this? I just can't see us getting close to this again never mind beating it : (.

{Ed001's Note - options. We have no options to rest the full backs, other than with makeshift players. We could do with one more forward who can play across the front 3 and who can push the first choice trio if they lose form. Other than that the team should be better next season anyway, as they are mostly young and inexperienced, so they will gain experience.}

I think we will challenge again next season. I agree with Ed. One or two strategic signings in the summer will make a world of difference. I'd also like to see some of the youngsters get more playing time. I think many will get their opportunity in the preseason. I fully expect us to make another strong challenge next season. i think they all learned a great deal with this experience.

Congrats to City

But next year all these players will be better than this year

Allison
Fabinho
Firmino
Keita
Gomez
Brewster
Trent
OX

And we should have at least one new proper full back to compete and the mentioned forward/ playmaker we really need.

Great point especially about OX. he will be like a new signing, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had something to say in the champions league final.

I think we really need to win the CL final. The shared experience of the squad winning something may just give us the impetus to get over the line in the league!

City were fantastic again but let's look at things from a different angel. Their core is 33, 34, 35 years old. Aguero, Kompany, Silva, Fernadinho all the wrong side of thirty and all vital to that team, if all four are not on the pitch they are not the same team, as seen against Swansea where they were well beaten until three of those four came on.

Players like Jesus, Mahrez and Sane not to chuffed at thier current roles at the club and may leave. Potential FFP investigations coming up that may impact on thier abilities to replace players that leave or, heaven forbid get long term injuries . Players in that age bracket don't get better, they start to slow and drop off a notch, that will happen .

Pep has a record of after the third/ fourth season having his teams tail off, it happend at Barcelona and Bayern, players stop playing the way he wants and he replaces them within the squad but there is not an endless line of players when the season starts. I think there will be one team getting 90 points again next season but they won't be wearing blue. City have been phenomenal but we have improved no end this season and will again next, how much more can they improve, after all a 20 point gap became 1 point, in one season, another improvement like that next season and no one will be within 10 points come last game of the season.

So ed002, who is your choice?

{Ed002's Note - for me Laxalt gives a different perspective.}

Hey Ed001, phenomenal season! Kudos to city. However, what happens next season, if we win the UCL we could be looking to play 70 odd games next season add to that Copa America, AFCON and European league.
What I am trying to point out is that on top of 3-4 additions we should be looking to a fair few youth players to breakthrough.

{Ed001's Note - we should be hoping for that anyway.}

I don't see how City just don't go and spend next year as well, even with their ageing squad! Not unlike they don't have players like Sane, de Bruyne and the second silva, stones etc!
I'm not sure if we'll ever have the squad to match! We'd have to have 5 great players chilling on the bench.

{Ed001's Note - Sane wants to leave.}

Ricardo Pereira or Jonny Otto should be targeted. They can cover both full back positions.
Then Brandt/ Sane for the attacking roles. Preferably Brandt though, cos he can play the 8/ 10 roles.

Agree with Ed regards our needs. During our dip in form, in January, we were crying out for replacement quality across the front line, to rest one of the front three. I don't buy in to the theory that no one will join us to sit on the bench. There are plenty of games to share round, and it would allow us to make a better fist of the domestic cups.

Have Liverpool looked at Laxalt?
