Not a rumour but i found this interesting regarding this transfer: Tom Werner has vowed that funds will be available for whatever reinforcements the manager requests.

"John (W Henry), Mike (Gordon) and I will leave the transfer business to those who know it so well - Jurgen and Michael Edwards" Werner said.

"If they recommend someone then we will support that recommendation. Our role at FSG is to support the manager and the people around him in the best way that we possibly can. ".

To add to this, Liverpool owner John W Henry has done an interview with Sky Sports and said that winning Champions League won’t make up for missing out on the title. Liverpool will go again and invest this summer to make sure they win Premier League next season.

I know a lot has been said about us in the new that we won't be spending much this summer but this seems to contradict that?

we have money, we can buy who we want.

the want is more important than the money.

if we see 3 players for 40 mil that improve us then that is what we will do.

if we see signing 1 player for 70 that will improve us then that is what we will do.

nothing from the outside will impact that.

for me we need another pace, high quality forward and a cb. lb and rb cover is difficult. if Milner stays then I'm confident we won't need any, as Gomez and Milly can sort that!

Did you see his comment, and I paraphrase, ‘Liverpool fan are amongst the most literate and passionate in the world’.

Literate?! What a random choice of words!

That quote further gives legitimacy to Ed002 saying that Liverpool are trying to buy the league. However, it's no different than any other club in my opinion. You almost have to these days.

As Ed002 has said Alex the club will support Klopp and invest on who he wants. Shame for some of the youngsters who will have to move on, Ed002 is also right in saying we are trying to buy success. Either way we need to start winning things again so what ever it takes for me.

I read the interview and I don't think it means will spend big money on a backup. Full interview talks about the right player and doing so in a way that the club is still sustainable.

But if the right player that could walk into our first 11 became available and the player wanted the move I am sure they would make it happen.

I think our summer business will be focused on making sure we have the right players that can fit our system from the bench. For example we take off Firmino who is hungry pressing and bring on someone who can offer similar as sadly it seems Sturridge legs have gone or we take off Mane / Salah when having an off game and bring on someone with pace rather than Lallana etc.

I agree Virgil, if we are going to try and buy success, we'd better start winning titles. Ed002 is spot on in my opinion.

Every team challenging for the title or near it at this level that the PL has become, needs to spend to have a chance or has to "buy success" cos that is the bare that has been raised for the past 15 or so years now. Leicester City was the outlier. What we have to do is be very strategic in how we spend our money while being equally being very creative in the types of players we are targeting to improve us.

As someone already said, the money is there to be spent on the right players should the opportunity come and I'm totally cool with that provided we are not taking in too much debt to finance them cos Ed02 has been very outspoken about the debt needing to be reigned in.

{Ed002's Note - The club are committed to trying to buy the league that will remain the target.}

Every few years Ajax gets decimated after bringing a new crop of successful young players through. and for a while it started feeling like we were raising players for the two Spanish giants. I'm glad that has changed even though it is now harder for young players to break through.

well at least we're the not the first to buy the league or any league.

Madrid have done it for ever, except they coined a name for themselves 'galacticos' makingn it ok for them.

Barcelona are breaking away from their traditions. city. United. Chelsea. psg. Munich. juventus.

couldn't care less. comparing to other sides 'again' and what, provides context. Atleast we're spending what we earn.

Buy it or steal it. Just bring the damn thing home.

The game has changed to much financially as it evolves and money grows it's making it more and more difficult for youth to break through maybe a rule that at least 5 local home grown must start each match would change things massively. what would anyone suggest to improve youth development?

Firmane, I would guess Henry was aiming for “articulate” rather than “literate” - the irony of his spoonerism is hilarious!

I would go with articulate when you see our banners and songs. I must’ve showed the “my bird” banner to dozens of people. Just brilliant!

Has there ever been a time the league was not bought? Either the money you spend on transfers buys it, or the money you spend on wages, or the money you spend on coaches and training facilities. But titles and trophies are always bought in one way or another aside from a few rare exceptions which usually happen when other teams are rebuilding.

Every team that is successful does so from a platform of financial superiority.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, this season when Liverpool did not manage to buy the league.}
