I read recently that wilson will get a chance in pre season, I know previously it’s been said that he will he sold, but do you think he has at least earnt an opportunity to prove himself in pre season?

I know aswell one of the Ed’s says he doesn’t work hard enough to be considered for our squad, but isn’t that something you can change quite easily?

Are there any other aspects of his game that worry you?

Work rate can't be an easy fix or shaq wouldn't be in the predicament he finds himself in.

I think the plan is probably still the same. He's earned a pre season and the club should rightly give him the chance he wants. But I still feel a sale is what we want, he will attract interest and later in the window might bring a better price.
Ed any clue if we would consider a loan to premier league team or is the feeling now is the time to cash in?

{Ed001's Note - as far as I can find out, a sale is wanted. He simply does not do enough and goes missing for large portions of games.}

Ed02 says Wilson is likely to leave LFC.

Yeah p1 but old dogs and new tricks etc.

Wilsons workrate is something that can change and i agree with the OP so far as to say it could be changed quite easily. Remember, the lad has been playing under lampard who although a brilliant player, if there was one down side to his game, it was his defensive work rate or lack of.

I think the kids has definitely earned a chance in pre season. I actually think he should be given a season. If he doesn't make the grade then sell him.

{Ed001's Note - in what way has he earnt a shot? I keep hearing people say that but I just don't see it. He does not convince me at all.}

It's not just work rate as any reason. He does not fit our team, he's not pacy, has no aggression in attacking a ball or space and his reading of the game hasn't been proven. He gets good numbers and can strike a clean ball but even at championship level he can't dominate games. He's a much less accomplished shaqiri. He plays from the right side but none of his attributes make him a good fit. Klopp knows him best and it's clearly obvious he's not in his plans full stop. He plays like Robert Snodgrass, looks technically superior in lesser surroundings but I can't see him suddenly being able to offer us anything more than set piece ability and long shots. Other than that he'd only be a passenger.

Id let him have a few weeks of training but ultimately offers of anything over 20mil for a player yet to kick a ball in premier league at 22 years has to be accepted. If we can get 10 for Camacho and Kent each too with the 20 for ings that's a possible 60 million income for guys who've with hardly 20 Liverpool games between them.

p1 what mean is that work rate can be instilled in anyone who is truly committed to improving and becoming the best, whereas talent isn’t something you can easily teach.

Thanks ed, I thought as much. I know he has quite a few goals but as you say his contribution does vary quite a lot. Then again who knows what could happen in the future.

Ed01, i dunno. i've seen him play only a handful of games. And on all but one he ran the game.

And that free kick against utd and the 5 times celebration! Maybe red tinted glasses.

I think playing with lads, no men, like gini and hendo would bring out the best in him. Liverpool have a history of signing players who stormed the 2nd division or now the championship. Wilson certainly did storm the champ.

And he looks like torres!

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool want to sell him.}

I think the opposite actually southern. As a grown adult man it's not so easy for your mentality to be trained or forced to think differently. By the way im not calling wilson a lazy or carefree person at all but I can't think of many examples of players who have changed these characteristics mid career. Whereas talent can always be improved. Look at players like Ronaldo. Trained so hard to perfect his skills, nani didn't look any less talented at that age but never physically trained and applied to the levels Ronaldo did. Guys like ravel Morrison, Adel taarabt, Kevin Prince boeting, balotelli, Ben arfa. These guys you could tell were never able to succeed as they naturally had an unsuitable mindset to do so. Wilson is far from this type, but it's certain things he won't possibly be able to offer no matter how hard he tries. He is slow naturally and will always be, his pace hinders his aggression then to press intensily and his pace also hinders his threat to break on the counter or supporting runs will always be easily defended. Shaqiri doesn't get considered in that right wing role so no chance Wilson will. His technique and his ability to play the ball are his only strengths. He can improve on them qualities through training and practice but his lack of pace will always make him a winger the opposite of klopps mould. He could pay the 10 role with his vision etc but his lack of off the ball skills would not suit us either. He is a player who can become great at his game but can't change his style. The likes of riquelme juninho. All great talents but would never fit in a klopp team.

I agree with Ed001. Sell him, good player but not at the level required for a team with desires on the PL trophy.

It's already clear klopp doesn't want him, never considered for us even when banging 25 or 30 goals with the under 23s, 2 loan spells with success, klopp has never shown any signs of integration so his mind is well made up for sure. He chose Woodburn over Wilson every time in the past when the bench was bare. Never fancied him.

I suppose if I were to look at it from the club's point of view, they might ask themselves will he challenge the front 3? No. Does he have the qualities we need from players for our system to play as a backup? Ed001, has suggested not. Will his stock be here in a year on the bench with us than it is now? Definitely not, so we should look to move him on. It's honestly probably in Wilson's best interests too.

{Ed001's Note - it defo is better for him imo. He is nowhere near challenging the front 3 and he is at an age where he needs to be playing.}

Yeah it's a sensible move for all. Although lately we seem to make profit on players sitting on our bench. Ibe 15 mill, brad Smith 8 mil, Kevin Stewart 7 mil. Danny ward 12 mil. Solanke 20 mil, ings 20 mil, karius maybe 7 or8 mil. We could probably make another 60 or 70 this summer by clearing loan players and deadwod. Mignolet and clyne 20 combined. Kent 10 Camacho 10 Wilson 20 or more. Grujic too if decent offer made sense. I know inflation plays a role but that's a list of players who largely failed to progress and in most cases have actually taken steps back. Some of the fees are funny to reflect. Hull took Stewart for close to the same price they gave us the best LB in world. Ings and solanke wasted away with no impact and we more than doubled or money on both. Double our money on karius who flopped. Mignolet and clyne play no part and should get 10 or so each. Danny ward played nothing and 12 mil. That's a potential 30 mil between 3 failed keepers, makes allison worth every cent. Our loan players with no future for us could reclaim the rough cost of fabinho. Bournemouth have done brutal deals with us. Over 40 million they paid us. Solanke might prove value in the future. Brad smith though😂he wasn't even young. We released him then re signed him for free and sold for 8 mil. He played about 5 games for us ever I'm sure and went back to Australia soon after I think. Some cracking business especially in comparison to how we've spent so.

In regards to Shaq, I don't think he has that poor a work rate in fairness to him, most of the time he is easily the shortest guy on the pitch and he's got quite a lot of bulk to move around, I think he probably runs out of steam a lot of the time. Hence why he is more effective from the bench. He also seems to have realised this with him saying he's happy to stay next season and play the bench role.

Brad Smith was sold to Bournemouth and is currently on loan to a MLS team (Seattle? ) I believe.
