I read a thread asking for people's 'Liverpool's Top 5 signings of the Premier League era'? My answer naturally and swiftly followed: Alisson, Virgil, Robertson, Firmino, Mane, Salah, Milner, wait, how many is that? Hendo, Fabinho, Origi, Matip, Gomez, uhm, and all the rest! :)

YNWA.

So the majority of Liverpool’s best premier league signings are all in the past 3/ 4 years?

2.) 13 Jul 2019

Hyypia, Alonso, Alisson, Van Dijk and Firmino. Would be my five.

Plenty of great talents not included but I tried to factor in ability as well as contribution/ difference to trophy winning season's. Feels weird not to have Salah or Mane in there, but I think Firmino is the fulcrum of their success.

Value for money bargain signings, hyypia, Alonso, coutinho, Robertson, Gomez, all under 10mil and vastly improved at Liverpool. Suarez, Torres, salah, mane, all turned world class after modest fees.

Milner, McAlister excellent experience added for free, invaluable contributions.

VVD and Allison, huge money but in terms of immediate impact, hugely influential signings.

Kuyt, hamann, Murphy, finnan also shrewd understated transfers.

Alonso, Robertson, Hyypia, Coutinho, VVD.

You simply can't leave Coutinho out. Not just for how much of a good player he was for us but the massive profit we made on him. We signed him for £8.5 million.

And Hyypia, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres and Suarez do not even get a mention.

6.) 13 Jul 2019

VVD, Allison, Hyypia, Alonso and then Torres. followed very close by Salah, Mane and Suarez if we had one the league that year with Suarez as much as a rat he was he would have been number one. But he comes.

{Ed033's Note - Who comes? Is it the one who won the league? :)

7.) 13 Jul 2019

Vvd, Allison, Alonso, Hyypia, Torres. Would have to be my pick.

Worst top 5 for a bit of banter. Kozma, piechnik, Ferri, Dundee, kennedy.

Mane has to be number 1. Without him the rest wouldn't have followed. He changed the team almost on his own 3-4 years ago.

10.) 13 Jul 2019

In terms of worst for what we paid and expectations. Carroll, Keane, aquilani, markovich, benteke.

Honourable mention to ossama assaidi and Milan jovanovic.

13.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 10:26:09
Worst signing has got to be El Hadji Diouf.

14.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 11:59:46
sorry Ed033 Suarez comes down the pecking order for not winning any of the big comps and all the trouble he brought with him. but he did nearly win us the league that season with one of the best player season I have seen.

15.) 13 Jul 2019

@Har_red92 Robbie Keane didn't actually play badly for us, it wasn't his fault he was used as part of the power struggle. Scored 5 goals + 4 assists in half a season and 2+1 in 5 CL games and and didn't even get a chance to settle in. If however you mean that it was one of the worst pieces of business because of the way the suits back then handled it, I'd agree. Also bought for €24m and sold back 6 months later for €16.7m, like come on! We love you Michael Edwards, please never leave.

I liked Robbie Keane as a player very much, I just kind of meant he was our big signing that summer and we all were hoping him and Torres would be a deadly duo, he tried his best but it wasn't working. Poorly managed situation.

Lot of good players mentioned above but no Dirk Kuyt? Honestly, the work rate of our current crop is phenomenal, but the only ones who come close to how hard this guy grafted on the pitch are probably Milner and Robbo. Firmino's press is intelligent but not as insistent.

18.) 13 Jul 2019

Best:
Hyypia (longevity)
Alisson (ability)
Robertson (value)

Worst:
Keane (longevity)
Leto (ability)
Carroll (value)

19.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 16:06:20
Xabi Alonso, Sami Hyypia, Virgil Van Dijk, Alisson, Gary Mac

4 of them brought us the big ear, Gary Mac brought us treble.

Robbo anyone. Bargain. Great player.

21.) 14 Jul 2019

Best

Van djike
Torres
Technically we did sign fowler, so yeah, god.
Alonso
Salah (how is salah not on everyones list? He broke all the records set by rush, fowler, owen and torres)

Worst
Ballotelli
Zeigle
Morientes
Aquilani
Vorinin

May not be the worst players to play for us but all were expected to be big big players and all were really poor.
