I was really excited about the form of Joe Gomez just before he was lost for the season. I'm hoping he can reach that level again and claim that spot to start the season. His speed and strength are a great combination and I think he compliments VVD very well. They have the potential to be one of the best pairings in the world in my opinion.

He has been one of the better performers pre season. he's definitely no full back though, I never want to see him there again.

Definitely, Gomez could go right to the very top, it's up to him really. Hopefully he lives right and takes a leaf out of milners book.

Gomez has the speed and athleticism to cover full back well, more so than Milner, Henderson or (perish the thought) Fabinho?
I hope he stays fit and regains the CB role though, his partnership with Van Dijk is our top pairing there imo.

I hope Gomez does get his spot back, but he has to fight for it. Matip was playing really well at the end of the season. He did suprise me but I believe he deserves his place in the team.

Yeah, i agree juicer. He's our best CB after vvd but he can play RB, not as well as trent offensively but probably better defensively, so there is no need to completely write him off as a potential RB

Totally agree that vvd gomez partnership was very impressive. I don't think we conceded more than 1 in our first handfull of games. didn't concede at all for our first 3/ 4? Yeah i hope its joe and virgil.
