So Maxlfc

Based on your statement that you would stick with our backups. I assume that you think Liverpool will do better than City in the 3 domestic trophies and Cl, or at least 3 out of 4?

Irish, I cannot predict that we will do better in all competitions than City. I do believe that Klopp will go for a team with majority of backups for the FA and League Cups with the likes of Brewster, Hoever, Elliot and Larouci getting chances so not sure how we will fair in the the Cups. Then there is also the World Club Cup. Lots of games to come this season.

What I can say is that a team selection from Adrian, Hoever, Matip (if Gomez is going to be first choice going forward) Lovren, Larouci, Milner, Elliot, Shaqiri, Ox, Origi, Brewster, Keita and Lallana surely is capable of a good run in the cup competitions?

With the amount of games ahead this season our 1st team starters will not be able to play every minute of every game. That is for sure.

We definitely not going to win every trophy either this season. It has never been done and do not expect us to.

I cannot see City doing the League and Cup treble again this season either.

All eyes will be on the League for Klopp this season. That is the trophy I want us to win and if we can somehow, by chance add the FA and League Cup, World Club Cup and CL trophies then it will be a bonus.

I guess it comes down to ones expectations.

I will doing a seperate post on why I would stick with our backups.

The thing with the cups is the draw plays a huge part. Last season we got Chelsea and Wolves. If we have the luck of the draw on our side for a couple of rounds in both cups this season then that could make a world of difference. I’m guessing we are in pot 1 for the CL draw as well?

Thanks for the reply Max.
I have to say that it does seem a bit strange to me that you aren't more confident on Liverpool having a more successful season given what you have said about our squad. I would have expected you to be more bullish in your response if I'm honest, a bit like sitting on the fence.

Maybe, even tho you think we have a squad equal if not better than City's that it might come down to man management? You don't think Pep is a better coach than Klopp do you?

Surely if we do have the better coach, as I think we do, then it should be a given that we do better than City? Maybe you could think of a reason we shouldn't? Cheers.

Irish, just refresh my mind, what did I say about our squad? I am missing the part where I have said we have a squad equal or better than City's.

You see, it is not me sitting on the fence or putting words into others mouths.

So for that reason I hope you enjoyed reading my reply.

I don't think, and never have thought, that feeling a totally new starting 11 is a good idea. Players should be rested when they need it, and replacements should come in when required. In my opinion, fielding 7 out of 11 starters 3 games in a row in a rotational way is far more likely to get results than fielding a completely new, cold 11 in any game. Players who haven't played need time to get up to speed in a game, and they need players who are up to speed beside them to cover for them. That's how I'd like to see the busy periods handled if we're going to compete on all fronts.

"Based on the above, which set backups would everyone prefer? I will stick with our set of backups thanks :-) "

From yesterday's post Max, as per my original post Max. You don't need Johnnyr's glasses?

You have lost me Irish. What did I say about our squad?

Max, you’ve been cornered here, you’d lose a lot less face to just admit your statement about our squad depth being better than city’s was a tad ambitious.
