Hi eds. A question for ed01. Given today's statement that the club are allowing the proposed planning permission for the Annie Rd to expire because they intend to submit plans for a bigger stand taking the capacity over 60000 has something changed with the road infrastructure enabling this? I seem to remember you said a few years back we were capped at 60000 for this reason. And if this limit no longer exists do you potentially see another phase where the kop is expanded. Cheers Ed.

{Ed001's Note - they are working with the local council and plans are in hand to improve transport infrastructure in partnership together, the club and the council + local business. It will be done as a whole, along with the current regeneration of the area and the increase in capacity. Until finalised plans are released, I can't say whether or not the Annie Rd will max out the potential or not, in the short term at least. Certainly in the long term both club and city are keen to make it viable for a much larger stadium. The revenue from the increased number of visitors to the city is key to making the regeneration viable. We might be talking 10 years before it becomes possible to look to work on The Spion Kop though or it could be that they do the necessary works now as part of this current improvement. It is certainly in the long term plans of the club to look to a much larger capacity by increasing both ends of the ground as well, if it is possible. Local residents will probably end up being the biggest problem, as there will be a number who are opposed to the plans.}

There are suggestions that a new rail station could be opened in the area. I believe that that would be one of the major factors that would help the club with its plans. Hopefully the club, and Everton’s new proposed stadium can be catalysts for a real and serious regeneration of our city, in areas that could do with investment. Both clubs are key to the overall success of the city, which is why I would love to see Everton back in European football soon which helps out all the cabs, busses, pubs, restaurants and hotels.

Don’t forget as well, RNRed, that the recent work already carried out on the ground and surrounding area - increased entertainment facilities that can stagger dispersal rates from / to the ground, revised street design to aid people flows, park and ride etc - may help the club to demonstrate that it has actually improved existing traffic infrastructure without the need to build the new train line and station, as welcome as that would be.
IMO the club could, in this way, make a case to tweak the existing planning ceiling of 60,000 upwards to say around 65,000 capacity that would make an enhanced Annie Road End improvement more viable and worthwhile.
It’ll be interesting though because new corporate facilities will almost certainly go into a new AR stand and then the Kop would become the smallest structure in stature.

Whilst I don't have much knowledge on how expanding stadiums would impact Liverpool, I think an additional train station would be fantastic. Manchester has several large ones which go all over, I think additional trains with more connections would be an excellent boost! Better than the governments outdated ideas for HS2 etc! By the times it built Japan will probably have their country covered by the shinkansen allowing you to travel the entire length of Japan purely by train.

I thought it was the proximity to the road that was limiting the size of the expansion? The fact the Main stand only increased capacity by 9k I doubt they will be able to increase the Anny road by 11k to take us upto 65k capacity as someone has suggested. I also don’t think there is a major issue with trains, one next to the stadium would be nice but Kirkdale is hardly a million miles away.

{Ed002's Note - As I have said, it is not a simple issue for the club to resolve.}
