Ed 01 can you tell me why Mane didn't get a penalty. If it's because the ball had just been crossed then you are allowed to take someone out with your studs showing and foot off the floor?
It was just dismissed straight away?

{Ed001's Note - because the ref didn't see it and the idiot in the VAR studio obviously didn't look at the right angle and so dismissed it straight away. It is simply because the PGMOL is crap and the officials are incompetent buffoons and unable to do their job. The lot need to be sacked and a fresh start made, with refs and VAR. The whole lot are useless. The training must be terrible to constantly churn out such terrible referees on a consistent basis. There is not one referee produced in the English system that has been competent for as long as I can remember. In this case though, I can forgive the ref for not seeing it, it happened quickly, but that is why we have VAR. The problem is the guy in the studio is obviously an idiot. He was not even a Premier League ref so was too much of a coward to look properly in case he had to contradict a superior in the organisation.}

Thanks Ed. I totally agree and it is a clear error for VAR. Chelsea got a penalty for less with Mount. Frustrating when the technology is there.

Seems to me unfortunately VAR is being used to protect poor referee decisions rather than correcting the mistakes which it was supposedly meant to be for.

{Ed001's Note - spot on.}

Surely they should have ex professionals for the var booths. You want the refs on the pitch. Train up ex professionals, plenty of them that I'm sure they don't all have a route to stay in football. I think mane not appealing too much impacted the decision too.

{Ed001's Note - it was nothing to do with him appealing for it, the decision went to VAR to be checked and whether he appeals or not is irrelevant to seeing what the clear evidence of video footage shows.}

And Josh king for Bournemouth too yesterday was having this shirt blatantly pulled off him as he was dribbling past the defender. It was so clear cut I really can't see how VAR could possibly not have given it.

{Ed001's Note - there were a number of incidents again yesterday that VAR should have picked up on. The whole thing is a joke. PGMOL have made it into one.}

I don’t understand the arrogance of football to not learn from sports that have already experimented with the VAR equivalent - like cricket - and have improved as a result.

The cricket DRS, in my opinion, whilst not perfect, is so much better than VAR. VAR should overturn every wrong decision, not leave it to objectivity like “clear and present error”.

Stop being so arrogant, and try to be reasonable!

The Wales Australia rugby game this morning was a great example of how video technology can be used. The game continued to flow and then the video ref was also officiating from his position and calling things back if the ref missed it.

English arrogance. Correct me if I'm wrong but today's game is the 69th premiership game of the season so far, how many times has a ref been called to the monitor? None. Anywhere else VAR is used if there's doubt the ref has a look. No point having it if it's not going to be used correctly.

Why was the guy in the VAR not a premier league ref?! Surely we could have more experienced refs i. e those that are forced to retire at a certain age, surely they should then move into VAR where their experience can be put to use. I understand that, as we stand, the old refs mightn’t be regarded all that highly, but that would make sense to me, once their fitness is no longer up to it, that their experience needn’t be lost.

{Ed001's Note - they don't have enough Prem refs, and they won't even use Lee Probert, who is out injured, in the VAR because he is injured. You would think that would make him perfect to look after VAR while he gets back fit!}

Ed001, could it be a case of them looking a bit forward into the future, and seeing game refs having less and less power and ultimate authority, over games? And, therefore trying to do everything possible so that ref. decisions are overturned as little as possible? Not suggesting any kind of conspiracy at all, but rather a fear of a possible future where every player makes the VAR sign and insists on a review, after every 50/ 50 situation? All this just strikes me as the governing body just going through the motions and saying "Yes, we're following VAR guidelines, but look at our perfect referees, they're not making mistakes are they? " Of course, most of us are not fooled.

{Ed001's Note - I think it is just about protecting their refs yes, but they did that long before VAR. They have always put out ridiculous statements trying to make out they get over 90% of decisions correct, which is utter nonsense. Especially when you see that it is the refs that decide how many they have got right.}

hypothetical of course, but what changes do you think should be made on this VAR system?

I think the VAR team should be made independent from the referees. They can't be protecting the referees if they need to make sure that the referee's decision is correct in the first place. referees are bound to make an error, but the VAR should not.

So how do you go about judging the work of the refs, Ed001, if it's not going to be refs doing it themselves? I mean it's a very delicate thing to do, given the assumption that the ultimate authority, and the most knowledgeable on the rules, are theoretically the refs., themselves. (I don't quite know the structure of the English ref. system, so I don't know if there is a higher authority on the rules per se, than them) .

{Ed001's Note - the refs do not make the laws, so how can they be the highest authority? It should be in the hands of an independent committee, you can never ever let someone judge themselves, that is how the banks crashed the world's entire financial system. You have to have oversight because people are liars. It is human nature, we lie to ourselves as much as to others, we always, knowing or not, twist what we see to present our own role in what happened in the best possible light.}

VAR in the PL, is there to protect the refs as Ed01 has said, plain and simple. The PL is the laughing stock of all of Europe with the way VAR is being used to the point that the hed of the UEFA Referees Association, Roberot Rosetti said he could not understand why TH PL use VAR the way they do. I don't blame him cos in other countries it seems VAR is used to get as many decisons as possible right. In the PL, VAR is sued to protect the refs from their pathetic mistakes.
