Really miss the written up match reviews from Ed001.

That used to be my little ritual with a cup of coffee. Any chance of them coming back? I know you do it on podcast but nothing beats a good read.

Thanks and i hope you are well.

Sam.

{Ed001's Note - I simply do not have time, they take hours. I don't have time to do everything and they were one of the hardest articles of all to write as I had to come up with something different to say about each player in every match. It was becoming more and more time-consuming as a lot of the time players do the same things wrong and the same things right, as that is the way they play. So trying to find something else to pick out about their performance is hard work.}

Im sorry ed but me too😣.

{Ed001's Note - I might do the odd one in future then, but it will have to be based on one watch of a match rather than 2 like usual.}

2.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 13:04:03
They were a good read ed but having to watch the game twice for each one is enough time on its own!

Would a monthly one work, time permitting, where you could round up performances based on several games and only one watch?

{Ed001's Note - to be honest, that would probably be even worse with my memory, as I can barely remember what day we played on, let alone much else! I will just do them when I can from now on but based on one watch through.}

3.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 13:42:16
I agree they were crucial to read after a game in work - what's happened to the poster who used to do his own every now and again?

4.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 13:36:55
Sorry to say that I'm in the same boat here, Ed. While I totally understand your reasoning, I miss reading them on my Monday/ Tuesday commute so one every while would be great. Thanks to you, and indeed all of the Eds, for the hard work you put into this site!

{Ed001's Note - I never realised so many people read them to be honest.}

5.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 13:47:14
Yeah u always looked forward to reading them as well, perhaps if Ed is too busy someone else could try doing one? Haven't heard from MK Scouser in a while, always enjoyed the articles he wrote for the site!

{Ed001's Note - there's a good idea! I nominate Bazza, he would love to write them ;-)

6.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 13:54:11
Was always a great read but either way is fine for me, like you say Ed and I can imagine it being very time consuming, whichever is easier for you mate.

7.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 15:26:14
Hahahaha sorry Ed01. You know that I'm the same here. Just hope you can at least do some on those special games, like derby and such. Or semis, or finals.

Keep up the good work and effort to all you Eds.

{Ed001's Note - ok mate, I will make sure to at least do the bigger games and as many of the rest as I can.}

8.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 15:33:59
Ed if you are putting it in the podcast can you just provide a link or tell the time at which it comes? it will be quick for us so.

{Ed001's Note - we had already decided to make changes as we have not been able to cut down the length of the pods to the 1 hour we were aiming to do. From now on the See You Next Tuesday podcast will just be match reviews and previews. Nothing else in them. Then we will do a separate podcast to deal with news etc. Not sure what we will call that or what day we will release it, but that is the plan. So you will be able to quickly find match reviews as they will be at the beginning of the SYNT podcast from now on.}

04 Oct 2019 15:41:41
No worries ed, if we are nominating posters to do the odd review i would love to see walter do one, i'd be interested to see if he could find any positives from our performances.

{Ed001's Note - I would love to read a Neggie written review!}

04 Oct 2019 16:16:36
Hi ed01, sorry if this is a dumb question, but I notice the last podcast I listened to was about 2 1/ 2 hours, how does that compare to writing up the match report? I guess looking at it from a reader's perspective, whilst I enjoy the podcast, that is a lot for a listener to get through compared to the written report. anyway, either way thanks for your work!

{Ed001's Note - the podcast covers a lot more and is a lot quicker to record. Remember I was watching the game a second time for starters, which is another hour and a half on its own. But writing it and coming up with different things to say was taking a full day in effect.}

11.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 17:15:35
Me too Ed. I can't really listen to the podcasts because I used to sneak a read at work 👀.

{Ed001's Note - looks like I have no choice if even bread is against me, I won't be able to eat a slice of toast without feeling guilty otherwise!}

12.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 17:46:40
I'm with every one else too mate, the match reviews were great and I fond them as a terrible loss to the site now that they have gone. Not that we're trying to make you feel guilty or anything, if nothing else it's a huge compliment.

{Ed001's Note - I will take it as a compliment while feeling guilty about not having done them.}

I’m in the same boat as everyone it seems, I miss the match reviews but at the same time this is a community of sorts. We all watch the games and I think it’d be good for posters to do match reviews. I’ve been thinking of writing a few articles and I’m sure I’m not the only one but I don’t think I’m as tactically aware and perceptive as Ed1 so I don’t think I’m the guy for match reviews unfortunately, but I’m sure there’s someone out there who’s ready to take the leap and give it a go. Let’s all step up and stop expecting the Ed’s to do everything for us.

{Ed001's Note - you might see something totally different from me, so your match reports could be good in a different way. But it would be good if you wanted to add other articles instead, the more the merrier with articles.}

14.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 19:47:50
Tris please say it's another Bazza you were nominating as I am a total gimp when it comes to the written word. By that I mean trying to put in words what I'm trying to say if you know what I mean I think🤔.

{Ed001's Note - that is why you would be perfect....}

15.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 20:01:39
You could just pack in sleeping! That would give you an extra 8 hours a day. Problem solved 😉.

04 Oct 2019 20:03:23
I miss reading them too Ed. Always an insightful read. Totally understand if not as I can see how much time they must take as they are always so detailed.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate. I will have to find the time to get as many done as possible.}

17.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 21:27:53
Personally Ed01, I love the podcasts cos as you say, it covers a lot more that just the game itself. in fact, the last one you guys did (available on Youtube), you guys talked about the racism row between B. Silva, B, Mendy and the comments made by John Barnes to that effect which was very interesting. Keep 'em coming, pls.

18.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 21:31:23
Well just to be negative I say don't do them edd 1. Only joking I miss them. Only managed to catch a few of the podcasts but aim to listen to them.

19.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 21:32:22
Funnily enough I did one on the champions League final. It never got posted. Was only about 300 words but I did rant on about Salah the player not the poster was a SYNT maybe it was too negative.

20.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 21:55:20
Can't imagine why someone would think a dig at a player would be too negative right after winning the Champions League, Walter.

21.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 21:53:41
Ed001 I also miss the match reports. Even when work got busy and I couldn’t get on for a few days when i did the first thing I would look for to read were the match reports.

{Ed001's Note - how could I not make sure to do them now then?? I feel ashamed for letting you all down now!}

22.) 04 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 22:06:12
If I remember on the reviews you also included the opposition as well. I don't think that part of review is needed maybe just a few lines on that part.

{Ed001's Note - that was because someone asked for it. But if the consensus is that it is not needed I am happy to cut that out to help save time!}

23.) 05 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 22:34:30
I didn't like them ed, so no worries for me haha. seriously tho, as you said there was a pattern to the reviews based on each player that was becoming repetitive. e. g., "player 'a' did this well but. "

So that plus the amount of time you were putting in, I'm glad you've found a more use for your time! The pods are gold!

{Ed001's Note - maybe what I could do, rather than go through player by player is just do an overall dissection of the match and ratings then? That would save me a lot of time not having to find something to say about each player every time!

We will still keep on with the pods don't worry. Actually planning to record a few with me mam when they visit over Christmas, as she has a hell of a lot of stories about football back in the day when Ed025 was young and everything was black and white. All being well, hopefully record a whole series of them while she is here to release.}

24.) 05 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 22:50:55
Looks like you have been emotionally blackmailed into these Ed! I’d agree with mark though if you are to do them again I don’t think the opposition is required, the most interesting part was seeing it dissected from a Liverpool perspective.

{Ed001's Note - ok cheers mate.}

25.) 05 Oct 2019
04 Oct 2019 23:47:44
The match reviews had become my favourite part of the sight. Used to love sitting down in work to read with s cup of coffee. Can totally appreciate the work involved in them though Ed. Even an odd one would be great if possible.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate.}

26.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 01:54:34
Ed01 after each game I was looking forward to read your game review. Your insightful comments were something I loved to read with a cup of coffee. So I guess same as many others! I always skipped the other team though.

{Ed001's Note - this coffee while reading them is becoming a theme!}

27.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 02:47:25
Yeah I loved those too, the site is really missing them, its like Real Madrid w/ o Ronaldo, its still good, its still there, but its missing something! And I totally agree with markp08, that was never a good idea for me, not that much of us cared how the Huddersfield or Palace team played etc. Maybe when we play Barca, Napoli, Munich, or some of the top teams in England, otherwise its not needed in my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mart.}

28.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 05:13:57
The reviews were amazing! I think like many here, the reason they are preferred is because you can sneak them in whilst at work or during your breakfast read. Really do miss them Ed. I think you've already gathered how many of us were actually reading them now haha. Plus reading is good for the brain or so I've heard.

{Ed001's Note - I am really shocked how many of you are bothered enough to ask for them to come back.}

29.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 08:31:31
Get in! Nice one everyone and Ed1, looking forward to these again!

Lol Walter you crack me up.

{Ed001's Note - and you still haven't emailed me Salah. Don't worry I won't be roping you into ghost writing them for me, I already have neggie doing that for me today ;-)

30.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 09:09:35
The reviews were a must read before. Maybe you could split the review into gk plus defence, midfield, and attacking. Instead of individual players, just a mark for each player. IMO PL reviews would be more than enough leave the cup games for an up and coming writer an ed001 wanbee if you like.

{Ed001's Note - are you offering mark? I would love to read your take.}

31.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 09:17:59
ed1 - the bulk of the responses here seem to like what you used to write. I tend to think that the eds value on this site gives us sophistication to football discussion compared to the rags. and the rags are in to doing on the fly player ratings.

If you were going to do a write up I'd much rather read something less frequent that dives into the analysis of the tactics over a period, thinking behind player selections, issues around form, any inside info on the club, academy up and comers etc etc. That's just me tho lol.

{Ed001's Note - that's not a bad idea that.}

32.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 09:29:02
Hi Ed001

I would definitely love to see a return of the written reviews. They became part of my morning routine with my cup of tea! (Sorry to break trend I hate that bitter stuff! )

A general breakdown of how we played etc would be great

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - does that make you posh that you have tea rather than coffee?}

33.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 12:01:31
I remember we had this discussion not long ago Ed001, I never realised so many posters missed them as much as me lol.
Yeah definitely find a way to do them but find a way to cut down on the time taken, just watch the game once and take notes while watching it maybe? Also you don’t have to have a full on analysis of every player, if say Fabinho had a very Fabinho type game then just give him a score and move onto the next player. Some players have terrible or really good games for some reason and they are the ones you can go into detail on, I remember when you used to talk about Robertson and TAA a lot because their games where very inconsistent until they started to settle, it’s them types of players I want to read about, VVD and Mané are class and are always class so little point finding things to write about them unless they do something stupid or particularly amazing in a game.
Also make use of some of the posters on the site, have some of us do guest match reviews, it will be good to see the comments afterwards at least. I’m happy to write one up sometime.

{Ed001's Note - I would love some of the posters to write one, whether I do or not, we all see different things in the exact same picture.}

34.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 13:53:02
I am one of the worst writers on this site but if posters are going to take a turn I would probably try doing a review. There must be someone on the site who has a keen interest in sports writing, this could be just the platform they need.

35.) 05 Oct 2019
05 Oct 2019 16:48:19
I think I could try. I just worry I am too thick to do a good job. I do as everyone knows tend to pick out the negatives. If I did try and do one I will try to add some positive notes too.
