Looks like we'll be playing 2 games in 24hours then.

1 squad for the Carabao and 1 squad for the Club Worlds.

I know it's early doors, but what kind of squads would be pick for these?

Would you take the first team in full out to Qatar to benefit from the warm weather and the facilities?

Or would you send the youth to Qatar and focus on the domestic cups?

Or 3rd option, would you split the squad down the middle and keep some first teamers in each?

Ed001, what would you do?

Cheers in advance.

{Ed001's Note - not a clue, this is ridiculous considering it was the FA and EFL that said players should not be made to play games within 24 hours of each other. The whole thing is a joke and makes a mockery of both competitions.}

It can’t happen surely. It’s not just two squad in two days, it’ll mean the team at the club world Cup would have to play twice in a week also - with limited subs.

If it does, I’d leave a first 11 here with a couple of the regular subs. Then send everyone else to the club World Cup and give the first team a rest after the cup game.

I'd imagine we'd put out a strong (not full strength) team out that Klopp thinks will beat Villa. Probably stronger than the team that played against Arsenal, who will then fly out to Qatar after the match.

If you look at who we'd be likely to face in the WCC, pretty much any side we field from our squad should be able to do the job.

We'll play one of three teams in the first game: Hienghène Sport (from New Caledonia), Al-Sadd (from Qatar), or Monterrey (Mexico - and probably most likely) .

I expect it to change . or we will field the under 23 . the first team squad will be going to Qatar.

We have to look to win the CWC imo and send the first team squad to Qatar to utilise the facilities and warm weather, then leave the youngsters for Villa surely Ed’s?

{Ed001's Note - that does seem the most logical course of action.}

The club have agreed to play a similar level of side versus villa a we did against arsenal and earlier rounds. Though I can imagine Klopp would leave the likes of Origi, Milner, ox etc behind so likely to be the kids.

Shame as against first team of villas going to be very tough away but we have to prioritise.

Biggest winners are ManCity as we are likely only team that can stop them.

think it was in 2000/ 01 when Man Utd and Arsenal had to play each other in the league on Sat followed by the League cup again on Sun. It was then that Fergie called it the Mickey Mouse cup as he was so annoyed by the ridiculous fixture arrangement.

seems like after 20 years, nothing has changed.

I’d give 2 fingers to the fa and play kids for the league cup absolute shambles what football has come to 2 games in 24hrs absolute bull! Go to wc and win it it’s never been won and will gives us a bit of advertising globally. could be 50 years before we are ever in it again regardless if it’s a Mickey Mouse cup least we’ve won it (if we do)! I can’t see it been much bigger then the league cup the only difference is the travel if u ask me!

Cant be right can it? Surely this would be a first. The club have to be given the same opportunity to field a team they deem good enough to win as every other club in the competition. If not then the club should pull from the League Cup under protest. It sounds like sour grapes but the club shouldn't be penalised for being successful. Did United have to play 2 games in 24 hours when they played in the Club Championship? Maybe they did!

Irish, alternative dates were offered and considered but for some reason the club decided playing different set of players is the best option . I think Klopp wants to get over the headache and get it done with . You never know the kids may have the game of their lives and if we win all 3 games . oh boy that will be something special.

Thankfully neither are really critically important, the real worry for me is injuries

I’d split The seniors down the middle and fill out the squads using u23s, should be able to put together two decent squads of 10 first teamers and 10 kids for each competition. The only really major problems would probably be in the fullback positions and in the forwards where we are a bit light.

I'd just let the kids play against villa and hope they can do a job. At the end of the day it's only a 1/ 4 final. There's then a 2 leg semi final and final before the end of February to play. So you're not guaranteed to win trophy anyway and sure Klopp is looking if we were to go through you've then got. Other league games being effected. So I'm sure he wouldn't be distraught if we got knocked out and he has a perfectly good excuse if we do. Also it would be surely a lot better on the commercial front to be world club champions than Carabou cup winners. But as always let's hope we win it all.

Interesting options. Anyone fancy putting up the roe two squads. I don’t know enough about the under 23’s etc to do so but keen to see some people opinions.

I’d go with

CWC
Allison
Trent, Gomez, VVD, Robbo
Ox, Fabinho, Gini
Salah, Firmino, Origi
Subs : Elliott, Herbie Kane, Hoever, Van der Berg, Kelleher

Carabao
Adrian
Nico W, Matip, Gomez, Larouci
Milner, Hendo, Keita
Shaqiri, Brewster, Mane
Subs : Curtis Jones, Lallana, Chirivella, Adam Lewis, Gallaher, Lonergan

I hear Koumetio is well rated but don’t know much about him, also there are others like Dixon-Bonner, Abdi Sharif, Fidel O’Rourke, Jake Cain, Christie-Davies to fill out the squads.

I don't think Hendo club captain and Mane will appreciate being left behind and not having a chance to win a club world cup medal . the first team squad will be going as is.

{Ed001's Note - you do realise they can join up for the final? It is only the semi that clashes.}

==========================

Agree and that's what I thought initially, but the statement from the club said "we will be utilising two playing squads simultaneously, with one squad participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar and another in the Carabao Cup. " So not sure if that means completely different sets and the cwc squad needs to be in Doha from the 14th? In the debate programme on Sky last night suggested the playing squad needs to be there by then .

{Ed001's Note - the club might well choose to do that, but they can bring other players out. They could use one team for the semi and a completely different one for the final. The only problem is that it would be a lot of travelling for one game and probably isn't worth it. However the option is there if there are injuries or just Klopp feels like it even.}
