ed001 I have a question for you with Trent turning into one of the best right backs in the world, who was your favourite right back for the club. Am just a little to young remember Phil Neal properly so mine would be Steve Nicol. the most unlucky would be Rob Jones who would have been a great right back if not for his back Injury and would have been England's right back a head of Gary Neville in my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - I would agree with you completely, except that Trent has become my favourite now, over Nicol. Nicol as often played in midfield or left-back though.}

Steve Finnan.

There's not been too many in my time as a supporter as it's been a fairly consistant position for us. I'd rank them as below
1. Trent
2. Arbeloa
3. Finnan
4. Johnson
5. The training mannequins
6. Clyne.

{Ed001's Note - bit harsh on the training mannequins to be below Johnson!}

Steve Nicol once scored a hat trick, and I'm pretty sure it was from right back.
He was absurdly talented and TAA has a little way to go yet to reach those lofty standards.

{Ed001's Note - he was brilliant but he wasn't the best ambassador for the club off the pitch when he came along to a charity event and just stood at the bar downing pints and making no attempt to actually do any more. He was there to represent the club and literally just showed his face. It was very disappointing.}

Johnson or Clyne should jostle for the 5/ 6 spots along with the training mannequins, IMO. Steve Finnan was my fav. until TAA showed up, tho. Brilliant FB who could both attack and defend effectively.

No one remember Marcus Babbel?

Babel was pretty decent for us at rb. Surprised Clyne and Johnson are ahead in most people's list. Didn't he score the winner in the uefa Cup final once?

Finnan was my favourite but trent now.

I didn’t know that Steve Nichol was a knob off the pitch but it doesn’t surprise me as he comes across as a total dickhead as a pundit.

For the real oldies, Chris Lawler was a star right back as was Phil Neal. But Rob Jones had the class to be a true Liverpool and England legend if it wasn’t for the injury that ended his career prematurely. I read recently that he is a mentor to Neco Williams - lucky boy.
