Nice one mate, not sure I agree but it’s appreciated. I’d like to see three center half’s of good quality as we haven’t yet seen a team without vvd but as a cohesive unit, I can’t find many players out there. Maybe a high performing Keita adds something to the middle but overall, with the young lads trying to get a game, this pool team is just cracking. Id take Mbappe though 😉.

It's been explained in the past why Koulibaly (Who is 29 this year and plays on the same side as VVD) would not be a good fit for us, why would you get rid of Gomez. (Who only turns 23 this year)

Good article mate,

Continuing with the three weaknesses I would say competition for RB/ LB ideally one player that could do both, if they exist!

Either Wiji adding goals to his game, I think he is more then capable or as you say Ox over the next 6 months if he gets to the levels he is capable of!

Then upfront I would have someone who can compete with the front three. I would love Werner but as ed002 has said we won't be getting him to sit on the bench and I wouldn't replace bobby he is integral (sorry westwood! ) . the other one I would get, completely hypothetical is Son.

Nice article mate. For me it would be:

Gomez can be upgraded on in the immediate term (although long term I think he could fantastic, but if you’re really pushing me on our first 11). I’d go with Milan Skriniar

Wiji - love the job he does for us which is often unappreciated but he could realistically be improved upon. My choice would be Saul from AM

Finally I’d like to see a true no10 to give us a different option for certain games. Someone like Havertz or Fekir.

Whilst apparently unrealistic you could make a case to sign someone of the ilk of Timo Werner to provide cover/ competition for Bobby.

Joe Gomez is very advanced for his age, buying someone to play in his place would be a mistake. There are very few central defenders playing at the very top clubs that are as young as he is.

{Ed002's Note - Right now that remains the plan.}

I totally agree if you are not improving you are going backwards though it’s hard to argue this squad is not improving every day one thing for sure the winning mentality and confidence that is growing in the squad can only be a good thing . 1, Gomez I think he is great and fully deserves place in team and can only see him getting better and better . 2, wiji great player and improving all the time but agree can go missing i would have liked us to go for Bruno who Man U just signed I think he would have either replaced wiji or pushed him on to be even better. 3 frimino at this time I do not believe he can be replaced very special player and very noticeable to me if he as a rare off day we struggle as a team for creative fluidity yes he could be more clinical in front of goal but what he is and brings to the team is far far more than just goals .

Havertz or Fekir get no where near our bench never mind first 11.

I wouldn’t prompt in unsettling Gomez at all, I think he’s a great player and can only get better and better.

I think we’re fine for full backs too with Hoever, Williams. So for me I’d be happy with Martinelli of Arsenal and Havertz of Leverkusen. I’d be more than happy with this two. I also don’t think it would mean losing Firmino or Wijnaldum as these two would replace Origi and Lallana or Shaqiri.

Improvements for me would purely be competition for places.

Thanks for making an article Ed’s and replies so far. Just an interesting one I thought. Interesting to hear we are planning to replace Gomez though Ed2. I do think it’s an area of weakness but didn’t think they’d actually be planning it.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has been looking at a replacement for Lovren - but he would be a starter if they buy him - which pushes Gomez to a position of cover.}

Do we want a no10 when we have Bobby who is both a 9 and a 10. If you're looking for a creative mid let's get coutinio back. I reckon he'd kick on again back here. I know it's not popular. But we could get him for 60odd mil I reckon and all the while Barcelona will still be paying us for him! I guess it doesn't work like that. I wonder if there's an option to pay like 20mil for him and forget the rest. The debt they still owe. Scrap it.

Gomez is class, doesn't need improving. Not many who would improve us at rcb.

{Ed002's Note - Why would Barcelona be paying Liverpool?}

Diego Carlos Ed! Do you see us pushing for him in the summer mate or have we already made contact?

{Ed002's Note - It is what it is - there has been a discussion between the clubs but there is interest from elsewhere.}

I think a few are taking Gomez for granted. Him and VVD partnership have proved to be the best in the world and still capable of improving so why tinker with that, how could we expect another CB to bring us more clean sheets and less goals conceded than the incredible rate we currently have. Plus Gomez still only early 20s and I think if he played for another team we would all be calling for him as the perfect signing.

Havertz and fekir are having dreadful seasons and klopp has hardly ever set us up over his 4 seasons with a no.10 type as that would limit firminos effect.

For me I'd see improvement by upgrading the likes of shaqiri, lallana and origi to players more similar style to our starters. Someone like Inaki Williams for me offers more in the CF or wide spot similar to mane or salah than origi who can slow down quick breaks. Keita and minamino might prove to be more effective to lallana and shaq and maybe buying a young box to box energetic CM to eventually fight for replacing gini, hendo or Milner who are all eventually going to regress in coming years.

I thought they were still paying instalments for pipco ed02? Have they fully paid for him now?

Hypothetical question - if we signed him would these installments be forgotten. What sort of deal could be done?

{Ed002's Note - The final installment of the transfer fee will be paid in June. The only income that could come from him is if Barcelona win this season's Champions League. Unless he returns to Barcelona and plays regularly there will be no more payments for appearances.}
