Ed001 just from a pure playing point of view what is Keita doing wrong at this moment in time and is done to lack of game time fitness confidence maybe
I know I in the minority here but i really feel there is a player there just waiting to explode but admit time is running out with ox looking so good again.

{Ed001's Note - he isn't doing enough of anything. He is not working hard enough, he is not running with the ball enough, he is not trying through balls enough. Everything he does is just playing within himself. The question is whether he is just trying to be careful and lacks confidence or whether he is taking the easy option.

There is a player there, we have seen him in Germany play some exceptional football, but in England he seems a bit overawed.

Personally I would have to say, if it was my decision, he has the next few weeks to up his game or he goes in the summer. Unless he is outstanding, I just don't see the point in keeping a player that suffers so many silly little niggling injuries all the time. It is just a waste of everyone's time.}

Thanks for the reply Ed
Can’t really disagree with any of that tbh
For me he seems to get injured too much for silly things and then it takes him too long to get going again.

{Ed001's Note - exactly. If he created chances or scored goals when he was fit, then he would give us something to think about, but he is not doing enough of either. He doesn't break up play well enough to see a defensive aspect to his game strong enough to make us pause either. So you have to say, this is starting to look like make or break time for him.

If his attitude is right off the pitch, then I can see Klopp sticking with him for another year, but I personally would say thank you but it is time you moved on. The ability is there but it is useless on the injury table.}

Obviously have no inside oil but I rekon keita stays for all of next season unless a) we have a replacement lined up and b) he is sold in summer.

I just think Keita needs this extra time for his brain to switch over mentally that will help him prepare physically for this game. He was very dynamic, direct and creative in Bundesliga. But he needs that plus steel and stamina to survive in the premier league. I think once his body catches up with him he will be fine. And of course, he will need luck with injuries etc.

Gutted about him tbh after watching him before he joined us I was excited about him joining but it's not going very well is it? If an offer were to come in for him in the summer then we need to let him go.
I just don't see him going anywhere just yet and maybe, just maybe that's a good thing? we'll see. If he stays then all we can do is hope for the best but I fear the worst right now.

Agree with the above but think he has had time when not injured, how long do you keep saying there’s a player there? Was it ed2 who said he hadn’t bothered learning English? He doesn’t look that bothered to me .

{Ed002's Note - He has had to learn English to a basic level to get his WP renewed to play this season - albeit it was rather late beeng completed.}

Have we been looking at or had an any real interest in a player plays in the same position as Naby? That being rotation squad player (as he is now) or as a hopeful first team player (which Klopp must have hoped he would have been) .

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has looked at a number of midfield players but I am not aware of them looking to replace Nobby. There is a need to replace Lallana and there is a target for that LM role in Cantwell as has been discussed. Scouts have specifically looked at a kid but he would not be for the first team and the versatile Sandro Tonali has been looked at - but he would want to be a starter and wants to stay in Italy. Marko Grujic may also return in the summer and Milner has signed an extension.}

I don't watch much Bundesliga, but I feel one of his problems is he is used to having more time on the ball and isn't up to the pace of the prem, it's down to him whether he can work hard to get where he needs to be or to move to a slower league where I'm sure he will do well as he is a very good player, can see him doing bits in La Liga for example.

Ed001 I don’t know how he starts ahead of the Ox, Ox offers so much more going forward. Nabby for me gives the ball away far to often with just a simple pass on and you think once or twice a game but it seems to happen far to much for my liking it’s not as if his trying defence splitting passes. If it was a Utd player playing like he does we would all be calling him and laughing at them. I do think his time must be coming to an end and it’s such a shame because so much was expected of him.

{Ed001's Note - he is nowhere near living up to expectations to be honest.}

Another issue i believe if we tried selling him would be all interested parties would know he's not done well here so would any of them actually come in with a worthwhile offer or would they be in for a steal. I know he cost between 50-60 mill if i remember rightly but let's be honest if we were to sell him in the summer would we get half of that back?

jk23 I would rather take half the money back than just keep him till his contract is up and get nothing because I don't see us giving him a new one. And I would much rather Curtis Jones move into the squad and play the games he does do not see any drop if he did. Jones has been great in the cups so if he had all the first team players round him that would only make it easier for him.

Tbf I’d rather have Jones play than naby, give him a chance can’t be any worse.

He’s flopped. Naby stands out like a sore thumb, it’s harsh but as soon as he comes off we get better. I wonder if he fancies a move to RB Leipzig by any chance.

He’s not done it for me he’s here long enough paid big money for him etc he’s had his chances hope I eat my words but he needs to go I’d rather give jones the place.

I have to say that tho I am a huge Naby Keita fan from his RBL days, he was poor last night vs the Hammers. He seemed lost in midfield and his decision-making was off by a mile. He seemed not to know when to press, block the passing lane or cover the spaces. He was also caught out of position up-field a few times whereas he was the last midfielder in the space and when the ball whent past him, we were vulnerable to the counter.

There is definitely a player there cos he was a monster at RBL. Absolutely brilliant footballer. However, he seems lost at times and tactically and positionally inept. I hope he can get it together cos right now, he ain't cutting it, man.

He hasn't done enough of anything to really warrant staying - if a replacement can be found, and him sold, then it would be better for the club. Who would actually be worth signing is another question though, maybe Aouar from Lyon if the price wasn't exorbitant?

Grino very true mate. But are owners prepared to take such a hit on that money after 2 seasons. Only they know pal. Just been looking at his stats and not sure if I’ve read them right but it appears he’s only started 20 league games in his 2 seasons he’s been here (4 this season) . I suppose that could be looked at 2 ways. 1 he’s definitely not had enough starts to find his feet in this new league or the other side where it shows how poor he’s been by either not being trusted to start or showing how many injuries he’s had.

I’d happily let Keita leave and give his squad place to Curtis Jones. We need to find a route into the first team squad for our best young players.

Keita injury issues would be easier to take if he was doing something to warrant constant injuries but he doesn't work hard on or off the ball. Every time he plays he makes us a worse team due to his inability to keep up with play.

It's no hard feelings, he came and just didn't fit in this league, for some players that happens (look at forlan) it's a very tough league which is played at a much higher much more physical pace and referees aren't as quick to blow the whistle when it gets physical. Some players never get used to that.

Regardless of fee I think it would suit all parties for the club to find him a new home in summer. At present he is not able to play to a standard or style which is necessary. I think it's a testament to the scouting system that this is the first real mistake by the analysis team.
