Josko Gvardiol: "My dream club? That would definitely be Liverpool. Since I was little, I watched a lot of their matches with my dad. We covered every season in detail. It is a club that has remained in my heart"

I do like it when we players have a fondness for the club, it guarantees effort and maybe means they will be here for the long term. But maybe that's me being naive.

Wouldn't mind if we had a look at him for the long term VVD replacement for that l3ft side of the defence. Obviously not seem loads of him but seems highly rated, young with experience at a decent level. Was good ay the WC (obviously not always reliable way to judge players)

Means we definitely won’t go after him.

Would love him at club as he’s quality and still 20, but I think our funds are going to be used on midfielders.

The absolute state of a fan base who accepts there won’t be money to sign a proper defender of a club which generates close to £600 mill in annual revenue and is 5th most valued club in the world.
What is the actual point of success when you can’t afford two / three world class players.
Gvardiol is a fantastic player and for the long term VVD replacement, I am guessing the super fans are waiting for sepp Van der berg to finish his 18th customary loan lol.

{Ed002's Note - Gvardiol won't be joining Liverpool. There are two other clubs who have already held discussions.}

So you're more bothered about spending money on world class players than success, TwitterMan?
I can't believe I'm reading the words 'what is the actual point of success'.

I know mate Ed02. And I am guessing Chelsea will press and why not. The boy is a fantastic defender. 20 years old and looks so mature already.
We don’t have money.

VVD and Allison got us the league. You are seriously delude if you think you can win without world class players.
How many league titles did Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing win at LFC lol.

We'd need him to stay put until summer 24' to have a chance i reckon but can't see that happening. don't see the problem with hoping the likes of a Van Den Berg comes good! As much chance of a young signing making it as the new flavour of the month in a lot of cases.

It’s unfortunate a player will miss out on his dream move because we are skint. I suppose he will have to settle for second best such a shame.

Point was twitter we urgently need midfielders and it seems our most likely targets this summer will be Bellingham, Caicedo and/ or Fernandez. Two will cost a considerable amount plus fees wages etc. I don’t think Gvardiol is an option due to this. Skrinier of Inter on free is a more viable target, as well as Rabiot on a free. Those two with two of the above midfielders and I’d say business done.

That has to be the fastest switch of a username for Harry I’ve ever seen!

Thing is, we’ve been in the position of needing to refresh the midfield for a few years but have neglected it on the basis that the funds weren’t there and we’d do it in the next summer. This summer it’s clear we are actually desperate need of sorting the midfield
, but it also looks like one where we’re not likely to get champions league football the way we’re playing (unless there’s a miracle), to say differently is being somewhere between delusional and dishonest. If we can’t afford to spend when we have got champions league football, then it’s hardly going to help when we don’t. FSG have loaded us with debt and instated a hand to mouth policy that means significant sales are needed to make up the meagre transfer budget, that’s not a recipe for long term success. Hence why we’re very unlikely to see the likes of Gvardiol or Bellingham playing for us regardless of how much they want to join us. Only way any big summer signings are happening is if FSG sell up, and not to the likes of Harris Blitzer or Stephen Pagliuca as that’s just more of the same.

Someone needs to explain the difference between revenue and profit to Twitter man. You can generate £600m in revenue every year if you like but if you then pay out £599m in costs then that doesn't allow you to spend £250m on players every year without going into debt. Revenue discussions are pointless unless you're having a whose got the biggest willy contest.

13.) 07 Jan 2023
07 Jan 2023 13:11:32
Income is vanity, profit is sanity.

On a serious note, we’ve dished out a lot of big contracts to keep us being a destination club.

Some of those big contracts are associated with players who might want to pull their finger out right now. A bit of fighting talk wouldn’t go amiss.

Just curious VVVV, what kind of owners would appeal to you?

15.) 07 Jan 2023
07 Jan 2023 13:32:36
Turnover is vanity, Pelican.

Does anyone understand our finances and who our transfer targets are?
I have no idea but I'm open to be educated. I listened when I was told we should go for Bissouma and Bowen but I'm not deterred.

The accounts are public knowledge Rigsby, you'll find them published easily enough. Revenue/ turnover/ income (same difference) always gets the headlines as it gets our fans all moist. But it's irrelevant if you then spend it all.

I see Harry has changed his username again.

I can't be arsed with my own accounts, johnnyr1970 ?.
It's all very well Googling a few figures but does anyone really understand how much we have to spend on players? I bet people at the club don't especially when you consider what can happen with our own players. If we sell Keita tomorrow then there might be more funds, for example.
And all this talk of us signing Caceido for £50m or £70m is silly.
We don't know what Brighton's or the player's position is on this let alone how much money we have anyway.

Most of us have no idea about the finances of the club and buying a player. It's a banter site and it should be treated as such but a lot are getting wound up about the players we are not signing.
Get back to the banter and I promise we'll get Bellingham and Valverde in the summer.

19.) 07 Jan 2023
07 Jan 2023 16:13:09
I guess it's why Ed002 won't talk about finances Rigsby, simple fact is that as soon as someone starts gloating about how high our revenue is then they should just be laughed at. Last time I looked our revenue was circa £500m, club reported a loss of about £10m so, we spent all of that and more. Sadly, this is my day job.

20.) 07 Jan 2023
07 Jan 2023 17:22:52
I don't blame Ed002, johnny.
It seems more people are bothered about fictional new signings than the actual point of success.

21.) 07 Jan 2023

@Rigsby, the last time the club had ‘success’ for me was the period between late September 2019 and January 2020. We seemed to be playing games every couple of days and we just kept turning up (Aston Villa League Cup aside when we basically turned out our U-18s. we played with confidence and style and found ways not to be beaten (and mostly to win) and never let our heads drop.

That’s the way I love to see us play and that to me is success. For me winning cups and stuff is the reward for being successful and winning titles and stuff isn’t my criteria for success. As an example, Leeds in the 60’s and 70’s were a team that won stuff but 70 - 80% of the time they were God awful to watch. In my book even though they won things they were never successful. In contrast the “total football’ era for Holland was brilliant to watch and the failure to beat West Germany in the final of the World Cup doesn’t, imho, mean they weren’t successful. Just saying that there are different criteria for success and, as we all know, it’s all about opinions ….

I get you, WDW.
But you can play good football and win trophies. If you are playing good football and not winning trophies, you are not playing good enough football.
I think the best team I saw of ours was Dalglish's team with Barnes, Beardsley and Aldridge. Would they have beaten the team of Souness, Dalglish and Rush or our team of the late seventies though?
So you do have a point, my friend.

23.) 08 Jan 2023
08 Jan 2023 07:16:39
Totally agree with that Rigsby and it would be brilliant if we could play really good football AND win trophies.

Usually if we do play good football we do actually win things but, as I say, for me I get the most fun out of watching us just playing well.

VVVV, funds have been available to get midfielders in BUT your manager who you continue to protect by blaming FSG didn’t want to. Proof? We have spent 200m on the past 4 windows on transfers, NONE of which were didn’t on the actual central midfielders required for his whole system. What stopped Klopp from using some of that money to strengthen the midfield. Oh don’t tell me. FSG, right?

It’s was your OWN manager who neglected the midfield and he admitted to doing that this season already BUT you insist on slamming FSG to protect him for his own admitted mistakes. Embarrassing.
