Question for ed1 if your knocking round mate
Seen you mention a few weeks ago it wasn't just the midfield but the whole team that was not working as a unit

Why don you think this is and also we are going to address the midfield this summer how many do you think we need and who would be your choice

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - the tactics we are using simply do not work. The tweaks have made us worse, rather than better. It started with the tweak to get Trent inside more with Henderson and Salah drifting wide constantly to create a space. It has just got worse from there as each tweak has taken us further away from what the team is good at.

For me I would like to see Elliott further forward and so take him out of the midfield reckoning. Which still leaves Fabinho, Morton, Bajcetic, Henderson, Jones and Thiago. Not sure we need to do much other than buying one definite first team performer. For me that is Bellingham. I would then get Rabiot as well to just give us a bit of experience.

The problem is that it never ends and next season we will need to be looking at replacing Fabinho, Henderson and probably Thiago too.}

Don't forget we will need to revisit the center back situation again this summer or next January. FSG just don't invest enough and it too many windows to fix the problem areas and by the time that is done something else arises we are always papering over cracks playing catch up.

I know Rabiot is a risk but it’s a good shout eds1. Especially on a free.

Given Caicedo appears to be out of our price range and we are betting big on Bellingham, I'd like to see us get Kouadio Kone and Manuel Ugarte to refresh things. Ugarte would be a great replacement for Fab and Kone will give us the legs/ physicality across any midfield position.

If Bellingham wasn't possible, then Enzo would be some plan B!

I noticed that when Trent came on in the Chelsea game he ended up central or even centre left a couple of times. It’s baffling that they are still persisting with this when it clearly isn’t working.

Is it true Rabiot supports Liverpool?

{Ed001's Note - so he said while still playing in France. Said it was his dream to play for Liverpool and did try to get a move to us.}

Ah damn Ed I have just spent way too long writing a reply that you explained better than me in a later thread about the change in tactics/ system.

{Ed001's Note - that's ok mate, not everyone will see this anyway and some people understand things differently. Some will find your explanation easier than mine to understand. That is why coaching is so difficult, everyone needs an individual approach to truly get the best from them.}

Ed001, and what do you think of the "notion" (i've seen it out on print and maybe even seen it suggested here, not sure) that the team is down because of being involved, until the very last minute, in 4 competitions, and the players being consequently "burnt out"? I agree that the system changes are not working because they are plain to see to any pair of eyes interested enough to watch and notice the differences. But does the "disappointment" of not raising the trophy or winning the title, by so little, demoralize you to such an extent?

And I agree about Elliott. He's a different player when he is a winger; it's so easy to see. He even scores. In midfield you can tell he is still trying to find himself. Maybe it's time to give Salah a half, or even a full game, off, every 2-3 games or so? Give Salah more rest and "feed" his hunger to play, while continuing to give Elliott the chances to develop. It looks counter-productive, at the present time, to have both of them on the field at the same time.

I don't like Rabiot, but it's all because of the off-field antics and stuff. If he can play for us the way he played for France at the World Cup then I would welcome him. Get a good price from Juventus and use him and his experience for 3 years. Job done.

{Ed001's Note - I am sure the way the season ended contributed to the disastrous loss in confidence. Especially as the players would have no doubt had a little thought in their head that if they had played the way they can, with the old Klopp-style, they might have had a better chance in the final.

I agree on Salah. He does need a break at times and Elliott looks the best bet at the moment to be the rotation option. With Doak as cover.

What off-field antics with regards to Rabiot? All of his coaches have praised him and his attitude, there has never been any complaints about him. The issue is solely his mother picking arguments with people. And he is out of contract in the summer.}

Have you see Morton play much this season Ed? He got an assist today i seen an account on twitter mention it and in the replies were a lot of blackburn fans saying he’s been poor especially compared to Elliott.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen him at all this season, only a few highlights which are no guide. I wouldn't take much notice of that kind of thing. If you are going to go on internet comments, better to go to a Blackburn forum or two and see the comments there. They are usually more balanced in assessing players.}

Cheers Ed

Yeah I think the change and tweaks you’ve mentioned are bang on and the high line added in to the mix with all these changes and it’s made us really hard to watch instead of hard to beat .
Cheers Ed
Bellingham and caicedo

And revert back to the high press.

{Ed001's Note - high-line doesn't work without the press. If you aren't pressuring the ball, it gives the opposition too much time to pick a pass. That is why the automatic reaction a defender should have, when the man on the ball is under no pressure, is to drop off.}

Totally agree .
Can we ask klopp very politely to roll back to 3 seasons ago and can we have a whip round for Bellingham and caicedo.

Klopp can't roll back DHFC the engine is gone.

{Ed025's Note - maybe it just needs a tune up?..

Yes ed25 mate but for that we need athletic midfielders seems FSG are holding the purse and just interested in stage payments like Gapko or loan deals like athur ?.

Thiago is our most unathletic midfielder and must have the best defensive stats in terms of duels won. Running and athleticism is only part of the story, but we need the whole team to be in sync. If we get a bunch of Usain bolt-type midfielder it will only fill a gap while the forward line are getting themselves sorted out.
