Ed001, what’s your thoughts on Robertson for the upcoming season if we are to play this new system that was implemented at the end of the season, too me it sound like he could be phased out with the interest in another centre back?

{Ed001's Note - if we are sticking with that system, he will need to adapt a lot. It would seem to be totally unsuited to him, but he has the mentality to grow and adapt. It does seem likely that his place is under a lot of threat though.}

I would be concerned about him playing that role in the 3-2-2-3. It would really go against his strengths and expose his weaknesses.

If we stick with that system, that role and the holding role recruitment will need to be spot on.

Robbo plays in a back 3 with Scotland I think so one would think he won't have issues adapting to a similar situation at LFC. However, Scotland probably plays a more pragmatic system than the front foot system we play so he could struggle a bit even tho, he will give his all.

Tierney is the one who plays the back three for Scotland, will require Robertson to stay back and not play to his strengths, wonder if he will also be an option for left wing.

I think it’s something we can reassess in January. Id love a Colwill Inacio Bastoni etc to play there but give him a full pre season to learn the role and we could be surprised.

Thanks, Bobcat. I was not really sure if it was him or Tierney. That said, they play a more pragmatic system than we play overall so we will see what happens even tho, I think Trent should go into the midfield permanently.

People get a bit hung up over players and the positions they can and can't play in.
Ray Kennedy came from Arsenal as a striker, Bob Paisley turned him into probably the most complete midfielder in the country.
Can you imagine the reaction to that if this site was around then?
Not everyone can adapt well, but that's for the coaching staff to identify.
