After watching the game yesterday I can't believe how bad the ref's in the prem are. They are killing the game for me. Having said that Darwin's goals were excellent. I thought it was justice as the Newcastle players especially Gordon were falling all over the place.

OP, did you see Tonali (very good play) absolutely belly flop to the ground when all Gomez did was run by him, went for the ball, made no contact with him nor the ball? Newcastle got exactly what they deserved, IMO. As for Eddie Howe, he is who we always thought he was.

I thought he did ok with the big decisions everyone is talking about. Clear foul on Arnold that he strangely missed and then the dissent gets the card. It was bad miss by the ref but the dissent is a card. I actually think the talking to on the second incident was right too. There needs to be some game management. Those 2 yellow card incidents were not a red card for me. I massively disagree with pundits that every single incident needs to be analysed separately. There would be red cards all over the place. It's all getting too robotic for me and it's pundits that are pushing it that way.

Second was a tactical foul by trent. Gordon Went down like a sack of spuds with absolute minimal contact. That was our first tactical foul in the game. I think you get one or two before the yellows come out. Newcastle get 12 before the yellows come out. That's my grip that he didn't yellow card Newcastle for tactical fouls earlier because they were horrendous with them. They really are the athletico Madrid of our league. The yellow card is not to get anyone sent off but just to make them think about the tactical fouls. I think their thought was we ll do it till we get a yellow. It calmed down a bit after trippiers yellow.

Van Dijk was a red in my eyes. Striker was goal side and that ball was weighted perfectly. He was in.

Yes there are errors but it's the robotic nature (and Var included) that everybody that many seem to call for that's frustrating. There needs to be some human game management to preserve the game. Those 2 small yellows where nobody was seriously mistackled or nobody was abused are not a red in my eyes.

My view is he should be looking back on that game and saying, next time I ll give a yellow earlier on tactical fouls. Learn from it and move on. But now people will all highlight the big incidents which I think he handled well.

I said it on the live chat yesterday. Howe lost that as much as Liverpool won it.

Yes Newcastle did have chances but their game management against ten men was dire.

He looked lost the referee when he should have been showing Arnold his second yellow. I wonder if he had someone in his ear telling him that his first yellow should have been a foul for liverpool and maybe that's why he never gave him the second yellow, as he should have done if he believes his decision was correct. To many players are still getting away with rugby tackles like the city game they should have had a second pen for the rugby tackle on haaland how the ref and VAR never gave ut i don't know especially like to know why var never gave it despite looking at it, and goalkeepers holding on to the ball to long, i guess we have to wait for a new season for webb to tell the refs which rules to start applying and which thry can ignore. Eddie howe was almost on the pitch as soon as Gordon was falling I thought that was suppose to be a yellow card for managers. After Arnold was booked for throwing the ball away Newcastle got a free kick over by there corner flag where the Newcastle player kicked the ball away after the whistle no card. Numerous times there was obvious pushes in the back of liverpool players when jumping not even a foul Numerous times of shirt pulling hanging off the liverpool players arms no foul given. Tripper leaving his knee in after his challenge on mccalister nothing.
Even in the United game the forest centre half sent off similar to VVD despite a number of players around so not a clear goalscoring opportunity being denied. The standard of referee is crap especially when you consider they are now full time. There not strong enough don't appear to know the rules especially for offsides they have reinterpreted them despite the biggest clue being in the title offside when the ball was played. I was surprised when the Bournemouth goal was ruled out correctly as they seem to think any touch now is a deliberate act and makes the offside player now on side similar to the Kane offside where as it hit lovern it apparently made him onside to fall over for his pen.
Commentators don't help I'm happy with the added time although still when they waste time in added time it rarely gets added on unless it's a goalkick they allow the keeper to waste more time to make it look better when they blow up. But they complain about that when they've been moaning all last season about the time wasting and how much the ball is in play. Even they moan about soft yellow cards for kicking the ball away but it's the rules always has been the more booking given out you'd hope the players finally learn they can't do it and once the refs grow a back bone and consistently start sending players off for second yellows that's when they will start to get more respect.

You forgot to mention the 7 fouls committed by joelinton that where not given yellow for don't agree often with neville but he was spot on saying Newcastle tactic of fouling in midfield every time liverpool had possession.

That would ruin the game Arleseyred. We are getting closer and closer to basketball.

You re point would be to destroy the game with red cards until we are watching a non contact sport.

It was not the worst referring performance I watched. Mistakes yes. I would say more learning points. Referees need to improve but over analysis and critism from fans and pundits on every single decision is just as bad for the game. It's making things worse.

Davey sells, at the minute it's more like watching a game of rugby with a mix of zumo wrestling with the way football is at the minute, and its not much better watching crap like that. It's just lazy defending which has been let off for so long it's almost acceptable.
Start penalising them and eventually they'll have to learn to defend the correct way within the rules like they use to have to do.
You can still legally use your arms to hold players off and when jostling to lose a man but when there hanging off people's arms and backs and wrapped around the opposing player that's not good to watch. It amazes me how a slight touch will get people arguing for a foul but when it come to holding its alway he didn't hold him long enough.
You may get a lot of red cards at the start but it's the only way you'll cut it out otherwise what's the incentive for them to stop.
