Big season for Joe Gomez
Konate will have injuries and VVD will struggle with form, no defensive signings means he will get opportunities to produce good solid displays that might get him back into the first team. Concentration and consistency please Mr Gomez!
Gertruida for me is a decent shout for January.

I think and expect he can prove many doubters wrong.

I really do think he is a decent player who needs a run in the team and a run and a few good performances to help with his confidence.

I also think Quansah will be offered greater opportunity.

We are not short of defensive quality the quality is there it is just consistent and positive form we need - we have 6 capable of playing CB that should be ample.

Sorry but I don’t agree. Joe has never convinced me that he is a starter in the team. Yes he mite have the odd good game but there’s always a mistake ready to happen. I’ll happily post again in a few months if he proves me wrong.

{Ed001's Note - you mustn't have watched the season we won the Prem then, when for a long period he was the best defender in the side, right up until he got injured again. As for a mistake in him, that is just silly, every player makes mistakes. Van Dijk makes them in every game too - just look at his red card to see one. The problem is that some players people only look at the bad and others they ignore the bad. Trent is another that people only pick out anything to complain about and ignore anything good he does. It is tiresome reading such petty complaints.}

Doing good (attacking) in a team that goes forward and dominates games 75% team is great.
It’s basic decision making when the pressure is on, when your back is against the wall or when a team is attacking in waves, or when a player or team is technically good. I remember them both v Ajax and Napoli in the Champions League were awful mistake after mistake. Joe like Trent don’t have the instincts to know or see forthcoming phases of play where there is danger. Look at last wk with TAA the decision to get involved with Claire Balding after being booked is typical of him, then loses concentration for the goal. Gomez isn’t as bad just positionally I feel can be way off it.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but that is more nonsense. Being frustrated after a bad decision is something every player does sometimes. You are making up crap about Alexander-Arnold now to suit your agenda. How often has he got involved with an assistant on the sidelines? You are just lying to attack him.}

We're not going to bother with defending this season. We don't even need eleven players on the field!

Redbohs, who the football is Claire Balding. I didn’t know Anthony Gordon changed his name this week. Trent has a mistake in him. So does the bang average Reece James who is missing in action every time a winger is in his channel and still gets done when he is there. Ask Vini Jnr.

Also, you picking out the Trent situation shows you have an agenda cos you literally ignored the fact that it was due to a relentlessly incompetent ref that Trent got booked for no reason. Wouldn’t you be frustrated if an incompetent ref was continuously screwing you and giving decisions to the other team? Man, give over.

You also conveniently forgot how brilliant Trent was by not getting himself sucked into their antics and he never lost his head once in the second half. Man, Leave the agenda to the side and argue your points on the merits and the truth.

Gomez and Matip will have a great opportunity to lay down their marker tomorrow against Villa.

Villa have a very good forward line so will be another good test for the back 4.

Gomez is not the answer. He marks space and doesn’t track runners. Positionally unsound and if he makes a mistake early on, his head goes for the rest of the game. But his worst traits are, he turns his back on shots and gets bullied by any striker 6 foot or over.

OilRed and Ed there is no agenda.
His defending is terrible, what was the excuse for Bournemouth’s 1st goal. These are basics of defending - my opinion is he’s a terrible defender and the Reece James comparisons are nonsense because he doesn’t play for LFC I don’t care how good he is or isn’t. As for the ref - the ref was wrong but the decision has been made don’t give him another decision to make, make the correct decisions. He’s excellent going forward no doubt about it but he needs to improve defensively if he’s to remain at RB. I also echo what redmersey says about Gomez.

{Ed001's Note - his defending is not terrible though, how many times is he the one reading the ball and clearing it? One on one he is poor but so is every full-back apart from Wan-Bissaka in this modern era. If you want to just see the bad, which you clearly do and you clearly have an agenda, then that is what you will see.

Yes, he has made mistakes, but so does every player. Even Hansen made mistakes - a lot of mistakes in fact. It did not make him a terrible defender, it just made him human.}

Agreed they can make mistakes and it does make him human fair enough, but he makes a lot of costly mistakes. I’m not here to argue I’m discussing errors in play and the desire to improve the team but The ball over the top v B’mouth (disallowed goal) is terrible defending blindly goes with his leg with 2 others closing. The goal B’mouth score is terrible (granted he’s in a position tactically forced upon him) but why are they playing the hybrid. it’s to compensate for his inability as a defender. V Man U last year at OT had some brain farts, Napoli away last year, Community Shield. I don’t have an agenda it’s a discussion highlighted by many and exposed by others but as a footballer or any employee in the work place we should learn from our mistakes and I don’t hold him wholly responsible the management and coaching team are also acting this out. Do you not think it needs to improve?
