Edd001 if sturridge didn't get injured all the time might he have went down aa possibly one of our greatest? He was a brilliant footballer and striker. That one season for us when he was fit imo he wqs the best all round striker in the world.
Also was he looking after himself in the background regarding the injuries or simply bad luck?

{Ed001's Note - he was fantastic and you make a good point, he quite possibly would have been amongst the greats if he could stay fit. His problem was the same as his uncle, they had knee issues caused by genetics. I am not sure if there was anything that could be done except to play through the pain. Trouble is no one else knows how bad the pain actually was for him to know if he was being wimpy or whether it was intense pain he suffered. I remember Michu being labelled a coward for not playing through pain and then it later being discovered that his ankle bones were literally grinding against each other causing him acute pain. The only thing he did by trying to play through the pain is ensure he would spend the rest of his life in pain. Maybe that would have been the same for Sturridge.

As for looking after himself, he doesn't drink or smoke so it unlikely to have been down to him not looking after himself.}

For my friends who aren't Liverpool supporters, I am always banging the drum for Sturridge. None of them understand how good he was. The complete centre forward and had one of the best left feet I've ever seen. An absolute wand. Charismatic and likeable to boot. I consider him one of the most underrated players of all time. I will never forgive Hodgson for not looking after him properly and causing him that injury against Ireland in a sodding friendly. He could never shake them off after that, a tragedy.

{Ed001's Note - he was truly special.}

Had the pleasure of meeting him quite a few times and a few of his family including his uncle Dean and I've got to say he was always a really lovely lad! Loved the banter with the bluenoses too ?.

Remember Rodgers bringing him on against Besiktas I think it was years ago. I brought along my brother in law who knows nothing about football and even he said how good he looked. He didn't score but had an air of quality and was head and shoulders above Balotelli that night. Fantastic player.

I remember he came back from jnjury scored on his right against West hame I think. The optimism then he got sent to America for an op, as they believed they had discovered the root of injuries.

Then basically we next saw him under klopp and he was running with a limp abd it was done.

But he was so good. The chip against west brom. Lightening quick. Clinical. Tearing everton apart.

Such a shame. I know klopp had a dig at him in the press about injuries. Talking about playing through but as Ed says only be knows the pain and he doesn't look like he has any regrets going by his sky sports appearance the other day.

Just dropping bars next to Roy. Quality. If he was like that in rhe dressing room then he was truly uncoachable hahaha great memories. Shame be couldn't come into this team now.

Always said it though the greatest players tend to have great injury look and some who could have been the greatest just bave brittle bones.

I remember Rogers having a go at him for how he came off the pitch and the shock in his face that he’d insulted him was so endearing.

Ed01, I always loved Studge as a player and as a character, he is super hilarious and a complete joker via the carpool videos the club used to do back in the day. Always felt he was more naturally gifted than Kane as a finisher and his ability to find the net from literally anywhere within the final third was simply uncoachable, IMO. Shame his bad knees were a huge problem.

The fact that he was able to have a career he had for for as long as he did with the medals to boot, is a testament to his mental fortitude and desire to be a successful footballer which IMO, he accomplished.

{Ed001's Note - it is such a shame he missed out on being part of the success Klopp brought.}

During 12/ 13 and 13/ 14 seasons Sturridge was arguably the best striker in the world.

Lightning quick, skillful, could score from anywhere and he was a team player. The only thing that stopped him from being the'complete' forward was his lack of ability in the air.

He seemed like a good lad too and by all accounts was fun to be around.

Shame about the injuries.

Nothing to do with Suarez making Sturridge look good then? Just because you don't like Suarez as a person you cannot disregard his ability. He attracted all the defenders and created the space for Sturridge and Sterling.

Sturridge is head and shoulders above Martial to be fair WRD.

What's your point hacker?

That's not the debate. Suarez didn't help studge become a professional football and we are taking about his quality as one. Not teams or styles. Just appreciation for someone who gave us great memories.

Horrible world living in resentment. Let it go.

How good did Sturridge look or what did he do after Suarez left is my point.

He wouldn't be in a top ten of our best forwards and was never the best in the world.
He couldn't hold a candle to Dalglish, Rush. Fowler, Torres, Suarez, Aldridge, Beardsley or Barnes for starters.
There are eight names without even thinking. He was decent but never a great.
And he's going to be a terrible pundit.

Roger Hunt, Ian St John, Kevin Keegan, John Toshack (best centre forward header of a ball we’ve had since the 1960’s. Along with all those mentioned by Rigsby, better than Studge. He had loads of potential but never fulfilled his promise.
