Would palinhia be a transfer we could look to?

I’d be surprised if we went for Palhinha given the combination of his age and the outlay that would be required to get him. Endo is a similar age but was available for a far lower price and brings vital qualities to the team beyond simply being a good defensive midfielder. Endo’s excellent level has also meant a DM now isn’t necessary this season.
I rate Palhinha highly but, a bit like Fulham, his performances are inconsistent. He was excellent against Arsenal and West Ham, but absolutely awful against Bournemouth.

{Ed002's Note - Joao Palhinha (DM/CM) Only moved 18 months ago and Fulham will not look to sell unless a huge offer is made and the player asks for a move. All interest except that of Bayern Munich, Arsenal and possibly Newcastle will have gone with the signing of a new contract although Manchester United and Liverpool have had a will respected ex PL and high-end independent scout watch the player on their behalf - although both have other targets. Agent has spoken with Manchester City and Chelsea, and Manchester City may offer an option. Fulham will still look to replacements as they fear the player could have his head turned by Bayern Munich or Arsenal, who see him as an option to Trindade, who Fulham are also keen on. Bayern Munich have scheduled talks about JP whilst they are in London discussing transfers this week.}

Thank you for that information, Ed. Answered quite emphatically.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

I think it would be a huge surprise if he went to City. Game time would be very limited.

Personally think he’s too old and too slow. Makes Fabinho from last season look mobile. We’d be making a very expensive mistake if we signed him. Probably can see him pitching up at City, as they’d have no qualms on the fee and from his perspective he’d play enough games to get a medal and at his age that probably means more than being in mid table for Fulham.

Spot on, Viktor. If Endo is a stop gap at age 30 then, what does that make Palinha who is about 2 years younger than him? That logic does not make any sense to me on a football nor business level esp. with NO resale value. IMO, whatever DM we get should be in the Alexis Macca age range of 24/ 25 who can make that position his own over the next 5 years. Just my opinion.

Palinha is a year younger that Fab and I think 2 years younger than Endo so no thanks and esp. not for what Fulham is willing to accept, something Bayern was willing to pay in the summer (80m euros or something) . Like you, I'll pass.

Why anyone would go to City to not play (Phillips Nunes) I have no idea. Too old and wouldn't want him for the sort of money being thrown about.

Can’t see us signing Palhinha but let’s not bash him and stats don’t lie. The guy recorded most tackles by any player in 2023 with 153 successful tackles and the second player ranks at 123 Pierre Lees Melou.
What’s the fuss about resale value? That’s like accepting we are definitely going to sell him.

Had he's a very good DM but not 60m at 28 i think is the main takeaway here.

Indeed, Redflyer. Glad you were able to sum that up cos it was not that hard to deduce.

@Redflyer, you really can’t think of a reason why players go - and stay at - City and PSG and Real Madrid even if they know they are only going to get on the pitch for meaningless games and then probably only as a sub?
