From the Telegraph "Liverpool backed by Standard Chartered despite Luis Suárez row". Great News!

Quite a few sites are reporting that Silva may be sidelined with an ankle injury for the first leg of our Carling Cup encounter. With two influential midfielders unavailable we have a good chance of taking the game to Man City. Last time round we had greater possession against a stronger Man City midfield, we should be able to dictate quite alot of the play against them. However with reports suggesting Balotelli and Dzeko possibly being available to partner Aguero upfront Man City may have the clinical finish to hurt us on the counter-attacks. If we can finish our chances tomorrow we should be able to take an advantage leading in to the second-leg.

I think our potential line-up will be:

--------------Reina--------------
-Johnson--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique-
-------------Spearing------------
------Gerrard-----Henderson-----
----Bellamy---Carroll---Downing--

I think Carroll and Downing will be a definite inclusion to help build upon the confidence of their goals at Oldham. Spearing is a vital inlcusion to play the defensive midfield role. Gerrard has reached match fitness, so will be included. Henderson is likely to start in place of Maxi, as Maxi played in the Oldham match and with his knees being slightly weak I don't think he will start. He probably will make a substitue appearance.

I think the potential Man City line-up will be:
-------------Hart-------------
Richards-Savic-Lescott-Kolarov
-----Milner--De Jong--Nasri----
---Aguero--Dzeko--Balotelli---

The line-up is still strong with the potential absences of Silva, Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure and Kompany. Should be a good game and hopefully a victory for us.

KennyD JFT96

Completely agree mate, although I think Adam over Henderson. I know henderson has been in great form, but controlling midfield will be crucial and i think there is only room for hendo or gerrard.
at 70 mins i wud swap bellamy for henderson and gerrard for shelvey

--------------Reina--------------
-Johnson--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique-
------Spearing----Henderson-----
------------Gerrard--------------
----Bellamy---Carroll---Downing--

The 4-1-4-1 we've been playing basically transfers to a 4-3-3 in attack anyway, so we've been playing the 4-3-3 for a few weeks effectively. just with a bit more defensive work carried out by the wingers, i quite like it.

Red7.

If Reina can actually perform to his usual standard this time, we will be fine.

I don't think Balotelli and Dzeko will be playing no?

While I agree that Carroll is the long term plan, and that Podolski and Suarez playing off him would bring goals, paying 35m for a player is not getting them on the cheap

Apparently not, they were people who were annoying him instead.

So Babel is still blabbering, banned from Twitter so now he 'bbms' or whatever the hell he does now. His manager must be driven nuts....

I'd just like to say -

1. What an person and

2. what a waste of talent.

Lastly - If he had the attitude of a Jay Spearing he'd be a world beater now. That he has so much god given ability that he is wasting is a real shame.

I know I will be shot down but as someone who has had the injury, I think we should be looking for a permanent replacement for Lucas. It took him a long time to settle in, and although he will no doubtly recover, you never fully recover from that injury, more than likely meniscus will go also if not already and its not a career ending injury but I would be very surprised in fact very much doubt he will return to the peak it took him so long to reach. Hate away but think about it logically.
Redire {Ed016's Note - It is a nasty injury I have done the same thing playing rugby. But we didn't receive the same specialists and physio's that Lucas has at his disposal. But it is by no means the end of his career, everyone's body is different}

My body's a temple lol

Quigz23

This is a little silly lots of players fully for that injury Shearer, Keane and Van Nistelroy all came back as good as before and got even better.

Look at ronaldo who did it twice. He came back from it and was the best player on the planet

This team is asking alot but you never know:

Reina
Kelly/Glen Skrtel Agger Enrique
Lavezzi Gerrard Lucas Bellamy
Cavani Suarez

I say Cavani because of his connection with Suarez.. And Lavezzi is just wishful thinking.....

Paul

This is definitely going to happen. All we have to do is offer up Joe Cole and Jovanovic. Oh wait, is Jovanovic still with us?

Well if you have to ask about Jovanovic....

Oh s**t, i completely forgot Jova was even at the club. ha! sorry Jova.

Anybody else feel that we may benefit from reverting to the 5-3-2/3-6-1 we started using last season against the likes of Chelsea and Stoke? It made me think of how solid we were with 3 centre backs covering the opposing strikers, enabling the full backs to dart forward and whip in crosses for the strikers. If i was to pick a team from our current crop of players, it would look something like this

. Carroll Suarez

. Gerrard

. Adam Lucas

. Enrique Johnson

. Agger Skrtel Carra/Coates

. Reina

Now, obviously, there's a few flaws, with Lucas being injured, and the fact that Carragher isn't what he used to be, and Coates needs more time to develop. However, I think this is a solid line-up. The reason Stevie G is in an AM position is because he was sensational in that position when Torres was around, it gives him opportunities to play the strikers through on goal and for him to attack the goal himself. Adam's passing is sublime when he gets the right execution, and the wing backs also have a chance to get forward and whip in balls for Suarez and Carroll, so in terms of service to the front men, they wouldn't be short of supply. Lucas also provides that extra defensive bite and holds the centre of the park.

I realise I haven't included newer signings such as Bellamy, Downing and Henderson. Obviously, the tactics can be altered mid-game, and although these tactics seem outdated, i just wonder why we don't experiment with different ways of playing, especially during games when the strikers clearly aren't getting the service they need.

A.C.

Looks good, though I would slot Messi in next to Suarez.

10 Jan 2012 21:58:24
Do you know of any interest in Zaha from Crystal palace? Ive seen that we might be interested. He has just recently signed a five year deal but we could still get him. He's only 18 but i think he could be one of our best players in years to come.

I think I remember Ed001 saying we took a look at him but weren't impressed with his end product. He seems a bag of tricks at 19 years of age but if he can't deliver the telling ball/shot, what's the point in doing all the fancy work?

Since theres old legends returning back to clubs in the prem this window, Kenny has decided to join the flow. Im hearing Djimi Traoré, Finnan, Kewell and Milan Baros are all prepared to get their boots back on for Liverpool and try to get the club back to glory days. Also John barnes is said to be 'eager' to get the boots back on.

I've also heard that we may be re-signing Antonio Nunez, Mark Gonzalez, El-Hadji Diouf and Bruno Cheyrou. I can see the league title coming....

My moneys on ERIK MEIJER lol

Hey Ed001 just based on your gut feeling which striker do you thinks coming in ?

Just curious to know Cheers. {Ed001's Note - gut feeling? Sow.}

Happy as a pig in muck with that!

Square tomato

Hooper... {Ed005's Note - Good player for a certain level. SPL can make a League 1 player look like a world beater.}

I said Hooper as gut feeling, not necessarily my first choice. However! Charlie Adam barely cut it in the SPL and he's good as gold now. {Ed005's Note - Charlie Adam was played out of position for Rangers and wasn't given a regular run in the Rangers side, not to forget the lack of support he got from Rangers fans (not a dig at Rangers). Hooper's situation is completly different, and much more favourible. However, regardless, it can't be denied that its a massive massive step up SPL to PL. Don't get me wrong, I think Gary Hooper is a very good player and I personally think he could do well in the PL given the chance but don't think he's for Liverpool.}

10 Jan 2012 21:44:19
to be honest with all you liverpool fans out there, we are expecting too mych we need a season to gel and in the summer we go and buy a top class striker and play maker.
for january a striker that can convert chances into goals. we don't need a playmaker yet but gerrard ca't go on forever

To the lad who brought up Darren ambrose on the site the other week well done. I've watched him tonight he's been fantastic should be in the premierleague! Maybe not at us bought defy worth a go he reminds me of Adam Johnson similar players.

Lol good one

Square tomato

He's been arounf for years. he's pap.

Ambrose was always very underrated in England, even though he played good football. He was quality for Charlton I recall. He's not glamerous and doesn't have a funny haircut or a fancy goal celebration - so he just never stood out for a lot of people.

He's not good enough for Liverpool though.

But's calling him 'pap' says to me you never saw him play a lot. A good player, better than a lot of the rubbish we've signed over the last years - but we need better than good.

Christian Maggio to Liverpool.

I think he is just the type of player we need, he is quick , strong and would love the premiership. I know that Chelsea would want him AVB been looking at him. Recently he signed an extention to his contract to stop these clubs taking him. He would be great player

Eds, I notice Dalglish wearing football boots
at the matches these days,
however, they are addidas boots
where as Kenny always wore Puma as a player,
is he not allowed to wear puma boots anymore
due to some LFC sponsorship deal?

If I was a superstitious person, I would say that
this could have something to do with our lack of
goals. What do you think?

{Ed001's Note - seriously? Does it really matter what he has on his feet?}

He might get nutty like SAF and kick one of our players in the head. lol

Ha ha ha! Lol! PMSL. Funniest post I've read in ages.
I've heard a whisper that the club are trying to get a sponsorship deal for big Andy Carroll with Gola in an attempt to get him scoring.

Having watched many games this season I accept that Johnson has got better and is good going forward, but I think he really struggles to defend. Fulham goal was partly his fault and the city goal definetly was. I also remember one occasion he should of been out wide he came far far too late and when he did arrive cut in with his left foot and went right over everyone! For me Kelly from other games I've seen and after being at the Oldham game is a far better right back! He is 10x better defensivley and not far off Johnsons attacking ability (maybe Johnson should play RM)

Vote: Agree for Kelly - Disagree for Johnson

Kelly every time

Why can't you just be happy that we've got two first-rate right-backs at the club and trust Kenny's judgment on who should play?

Red Ollie

For me the problem with Johnson is he sprints forward but jogs back, his first priority is to defend anything else is a bonus. What is even more frustrating is we saw towards the end of last season he is more than capable of defending, he just switches off far too easy.
Whereas Kelly is a solid defender and not too bad going forward. But whoever Kenny picks is more than good enough for me.

always a red

10 Jan 2012 21:26:02
how come Wayne BRIDGE flopped so badly. Everyone has forgotten about him and Terry. Does he still play football?

What happen to him and I don't think he should of left southampton. Its been a steady down hill run for him.

What happened to him is that Man City gave him a HUGE wage and now they cant get rid of him because no other interested club will pay the same wages, so he wont join them.

Good on him - serves them right

Warrior Sports have told a radio journo in America that there is only a pre contract for the shirt deal and that they have to talk to their partners before they can sign up. John W has told them that both protagonists will be gone from the club by the time the deal is signed in the summer. Is this Luis and Kenny ED? Warrior also said that they have to look again that the market size following recent revelations. What does that mean to us ED?

Absolute rubbish.

Tom.

I found this on LFC dated about 9 months ago on someones blog:

Quote: 'Liverpool Football Club has been constantly changing under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group. The shirt sponsor changed (before FSG arrived) and Fenway Sports Group has signed a deal with Boston-based company Warrior Sports in affiliation with New Balance. The deal is worth £25m-a-year.

The deal is a record for English football shirts, and is twice the payout what current kit providers adidas provide. Warrior, a subsidiary of New Balance, will take over from adidas for the 2012-2013 campaign, and is expected to be a long term deal; one that puts Manchester United's £23.5m-a-year deal with Nike into shade.

This will be a huge blow to adidas, who have manufactured Liverpool's kits for the past several seasons. Liverpool's kit is the fourth highest selling replica in the world, with around 900,000 kits sold annually, beaten only by Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Liverpool's owner John Henry stated when he took over that the club would no longer be "buying on credit", and would only spend money the club generate. With Liverpool set to miss out on another season of Champions League football, the deal will give the Anfield outfit a bit of extra muscle in the transfer market.

The company was bought out by New Balance in 2004, and has been tranformed from a niche-market brand to one big enough to sign a multi-year deal with Major League Baseball giants Boston Red Sox.' ( unquote)

Interesting ?

Tel 1949

It means Kennys job is safe as houses, he has been superb throughout this trial by media mess

No final contract has been signed with Warrior just yet, but I am confident that it will.

I think we should look more seriously into junior hoillett, fantastic pace and if not bought soon would go to city or united. What do you think Ed? Also I feel podolski would be a quality addition, similar to RVP. Is there any truth in the rumours and have we made a bid? Thanks, Great Site!

Guillem Balague: "Luis Suarez to Real Madrid? rubbish"
There you have it, if you needed any confirmation.

10 Jan 2012 20:33:35
Guilliem Balague[spelling?] has said that Suarez has no chance of being a Madrid player this January. He's usually pretty clued up when it comes to Spanish teams and their business, so I'd say this case is more or less closed.

10 Jan 2012 20:32:52

did anyone see man city against utd second half. The way city played with three cbk's and used counter attack with fullbacks. I think we should play that system against city on wednesday. It would make it difficult for city to score and we can get them on the counter.

Plus city have had a hard game against utd, we may be able to beat them on denfensive counter attacking player. This time have more CBKs to clear the danager. use the our Fullbacks to attack like we did last season.

I think Luciano Narsingh would be an excellent addition to the squad. He's got similar pace to that of Hoillet, Sturridge and is extremely skillfull, but more importantly his decision making in the final third is pretty good. Last I heard, Fc Schalke were lining him up as Farfan's replacement, but ED002 suggests otherwise.

I'm beginning to get bored of these constant links with Demba Ba. If I was a manager, I wouldn't take a punt on a player whose failed club medicals because he's got dodgy knees. I personally think we've got a few players in Sterling, Suso and Morgan who are ready now. It baffles me why you would spend 10+ million on a player who can't even pass a medical at stoke

You've got a good point mate...but then a few players come to mind...like Ledley King (who doesn't train)...and then Paul McGraph (who NEVER trained). Granted the latter played many years ago but both are still class and Ba has proved it for his last two clubs and has been the stand-out player for both...so someone will take a chance...surely?

10 Jan 2012 18:49:02
Ed001, you've mentioned a few times that you'd go for Soldado. I'd have to agree and think he'd be a brilliant acquisition. My question is whether or not you feel the club will go in for him and if you think he would realistically leave Valencia for us. {Ed001's Note - while Valencia aren't in as desperate a situation as they were, they are still not really in a position where they wouldn't accept offers that match their valuation of a player. I think we will end up going for a cheaper option though myself.}

Been thinking... we've always known how important pace is to a team. However, I think this is going to be come more important than ever in the premiership due to change in refereeing decisions. Comolli and Dalglish - we need PACE on wings and more upfront!!! It makes players unplayable as defenders can't tackle anymore or a card is given!

I often wonder what would have happened if Babel had a chance under Dalglish... just put him upfront on the shoulders of defenders. Strong and pacey...

Wasnt that great.

MIKEY

Why was he at the hospital

Visiting a friend or relative who has just had a baby.
I was there for my baby's first scan.

MIKEY

Is right Mikey...boss feeling isn't it? Hope it goes well. I saw Spearing in Drome about four weeks ago now with his bird...I couldn't resist shaking the lads hand but didn't know what else to say other than "nice to meet you". What a t**t of a thing to say! Anyway, I think he thought I was going to kick off at first as he sort of backed off haha. Nice lad though you could just tell.

DaveyBootle

Yeah it's hit home a bit davey.
I have met Jay before at work, it was a few years ago and he was with the whole youth team. Had a little chat with him, really nice and down to earth.
Easily the nicest English footballer I have met, in fact prob the only English footballer I have met that wasn't obnoxious.

MIKEY

"nice to meet you" is ok mate. Coulda been a lot worse... coulda said "let's be friends, you wanna come for tea at mine?" and looked a right weirdo.

Mate of mine walked up to just a local rugby player one day, lost his marbles and asked him "how much do you weigh now?" Work that one out?. So coulda been worse...

Red7.

Barry should have been told off by the fa for calling him what he did in the man city game.

Bring Conor coady in from the reserves, deserves his chance, quality last nite against a strong Bolton reserves, far better than spearing

Spearing is a really good player kind of a MASCHERANO type player which we need.

ACHILLES.

Hey Macca.
Do u have any idea what areas Liverpool hope to strengthen and who is likely to sign in Jan?

Your normally right so interested to hear what you know!

NiRed

10 Jan 2012 18:47:40
Liverpool should sign jelen from lille,a proven goal scorer better than bent and cheaper, also Jonathan williams and saha from c.palace

Ur joking right? If KK wants champions league, he has gotta sign podolski, soldado....
No the rubbish u just mentioned.
Indian Buzzer

Williams can pick a pass zaha was dubbed the messi of english football, williams is 17 and zaha 19 and both will only get better and more expensive, and jelen is playing alongside hazard so cant be rubbish, look at his goal scoring record, and will give us some money to buy another CB like sakho

10 Jan 2012 18:45:30
,Comolli told me while ordering a Kebab last night. That we should get the young Serb Markovic,He also said we are trying for podolski. He also asked for a large Donner with hot chilli, what a star.

Woodi lietoyeh

Where did he buy the kerb from?

Did he have salad with that as i heard he,s not a massive fan of onions just telling you what i heard dont shoot the messenger

Utter rubbish.

May be all 3. our team work in silent this time. that good for club.

Hiya Ed

I feel we do not need a striker as much as we need proper service. If we had a right winger who put in a few good crosses and a creative midfielder to give a few through balls then or strikers would finish. This would take the creativity burden away from Suarez and give him the freedom to be a finisher(like he was at Ajax and currently is for his country)

I think Kalou is just the player we need as he could play at right wing, left wing and off the striker and for 3m i think its a bargin. Remember how good he was when Mourinho was manager. Ed what do you think of Kalou? {Ed001's Note - Kalou is awful. He is just simply not good enough and has been a massive disappointment.}

We sold Babel, and Babel was a damm sight cheaper and better than Kalou, i hope this aint true.

BigD

Kalou is total balls and always has been. Why any Liverpool fan would want him in our squad is beyond me.

davethebutcher

Carroll and Kalou upfront for Liverpool -( can't bear the thought of it.

I would just like to say people have got the wrong end of the stick about Kompanys red card it was a sending off and there was no need for him to jump in with two feet and give the ref a decision to make. If spearings was a red and milijas then so was kompanys whether we like United or not. There was no need for Rooneys reaction but as a liverpool fan i think we would have done the same if it was our player.

Also tomorrows game is on the bbc just answering a question in one of the earlier posts.

Eds do you see Gerrard being able to start so soon after oldham?

Mighty reds {Ed001's Note - yes.}

None of them should have been red cards and that's the point. A couple of years ago everyone would be saying what brilliant tackles but now they result in a sending off. The FA rules are killing football and it's referees who get the blame.

Jackson Martinez isn't a bad player at all I used to watch him play in the Colombian league for deportivo
Independiente medellin. Def ha the ability to get much better... You guys remember asprilla from new castle in the 90s? Well this guy Jackson is in the exact mold....

Liverpool should sign jelen from lille,a proven goal scorer better than bent and cheaper, also Jonathan williams and saha from c.palace

So when did any of them play in the premier league? Oo, I know, lets re sign Harry Kewell!

Zaha has scored somethin like 6 goals in 79 appearences for palace or somethin, ain't that excitin really is it...

Good news that kompany is out and they don't have toura(spelling) hopefully they will play zabaleta because they might put Richards at C/B,play Bellamy against him he will run him ragged.i think we all feel a bit more confident about the game now.= reina Johnson aggar skrtl enrique Bellamy Gerard spearing downing Carroll that leaves 1 player maybe Henderson or maxi hopefully not shelvey!

surely demba ba 5 million release clause cant be right? are newcastle completely silly

Who gives a f***, the eds have said repeatedly that he will not be joining so y keep posting ba rumours.

BigD

Isnt 5 million what stoke were going to pay and eventually what west ham paid he would only be that cheap due to his knees been shot he sounds cheap but he could last 1 game he could last 150 its a risk i dont think we should be taking

Okay you guys are mostly.fools. Torres was unhappy at the club due to being used as a selling tool by previous hierachy, and the lack of quality investment sinse he signed.
Torres was quality, but individually, Suarez scores goals when hes confident and he also brings those around him into the game with his movement, tenacity and creativity.
For this reason alone Suarez is twice the player Torres was, i agree that Torres' form.was temporary and would have come good again but his unhappiness was bringing down the morale of those around him.
We are still getting used to the new players in the team and are building. We are only a RW and a top class striker away from a team that can challenge. The return of Gerrard wil aid us this month, we may be missing Suarez but other teams are missing numerous players at African Cup, we need to take advantage, and we could be the 4th place team. Chelsea have lost Mikel, Drogba, Kalou, Arsenal have lost Gervinho we can push past them in January. City should struggle too, no Kompany or both Toure.

Anfield Andy

That would be the same demba ba that had relegation release clause in his west ham.contract

As much as i don't rate spearing that highly he should be in the team as we need a cdm to cover the defence.

Gerrard and adam can play as CDM'S thats why they're playin there. so you have defensive stability and passing as well as having the pace and offence upfront.

Like against Norwich when Lucas was suspended and we looked like we didnt have a midfield?

Ed - did you say John Henry was a front man and there was someone else in the consortium who was very influential on the acquisition and running of LFC ? Who is it out of interest ? Or am I dreaming... {Ed001's Note - I can't remember which one it is, it is one of the partners anyway, he is a Liverpool fan and that is why they moved for Liverpool. They did look into a number of other clubs, but they were persuaded by him to go for Liverpool over the other options.}

I never knew this.
Always been impressed by John Henry, I knew he was only in it to make money in the long run, but he was doing it responsibly by making Liverpool successful and more valuable. The news that there is a fan in there pulling some of the strings as well is comforting.

MIKEY {Ed001's Note - the closest way I can think to describe them is to compare them with a bunch of mates who have chipped in to get a racehorse. Some will be in it to make money, but some are in it for the fun of it and it is all about trying to win for them. Others are in it for the prestige of ownership. But all in all, they want to win things.}

John henry knows carlos slim richest man in yhe world 55 billion . what man city have he has in his back pocket . wish he was a red . if ye reading this carlos theres still time.

before everyone gets too excited about the 4 game ban for Kompany, and the obvious benefits to LFC possibly, just remember that he will also miss key league games which will play right into Fergies hand.....exactly what he wants !!

Fergie 1 - Fairplay 0

Someone has got to do something about the unfairnessw of the FA appeal system...........christ, the FA even supported Rooney getting his ban shortened despite the fact that is was a dirty malicious and unprovoked kicking of a player. Absolute disgrace FA, double standards again !!

by comparison to the Kompany sending off, makes you realise just what a bad state the FA and the league is in......

Man U will win the league, cos Fergie has decided.....and his pimps in the FA will do as they are told

paranoia....maybe

fact.....definitely !

tel 1949

He does seem to be the master of the premiership just because he's a SIR it's like what he say's goes...Where the hell is kenny's knighthood he acts alot more knightly than Fergie ever will

MJ

I totally agree with the above poster

Who cares if it gives man united an advantage? If it gives us an advantage and a chance to win a trophy then that's all that matters.

MIKEY

I agree and disagree, Fergie does what it takes to win. Always trying to gain an advantage. He knows his squad is weak compared to City, so he's gone out to even it up. Fergie is the grand old master of head games, the only managers that he cant head work are Kenny and the special one. In Fergies mind all is fair in love and war.

So even mr giggs said that evra had a med mist over him at the beggining of the match hmmmmm

That article is superb. Unfortunately it will not get the same headlines as the vile media gave their disgusting lies.

Personally through all this , the DAILY MIRROR proved once and for all that they are not supporters of LFC and are strong supporters of MANU.

PERSONALLY I WOULD NEVER BUY THE MIRROR AGAIN, its a lying, biased and disgraceful newspaper

Likely Teams 2mz:

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Gerrard Spearing Adam
Downing Carroll Bellamy

Subs: Doni, Kelly, Carra, Henderson, Shelvey, Maxi, Kuyt

Vs

Hart
Zabaleta Richards Lesott Kolarov
Barry De Jong
Nasri Agureo Nasri
Balloteli

Subs: Pantilimon, Savic, Clichy, Hargreaves, Dzeko, Johnson, Silva(if fit)

Balleteli's out and Nasri can't play on both wings at the same time

Isn't barry also suspended?

City have 2 toure's not 2 nasris. Try again

How'd city play two Nasri. Any clone of Nasri. They are really getting too advance, with Technology. lolz :D

Nasri's brothers playing huh?

davethebutcher

Looks like City have signed Nasris' twin brother

Have they cloned Nasri like? lmao

always a red

Barry suspended, and i dont think man city hav bout 2 nasris
fagan81

Nasri has a twin then does he? Our team looks OK, but think it will be more Gerrard behind Carroll, with Spearing and Adam behind. Wouldn't be surprised if Hendo starts instead of Spearing, but we'll see!

Keith

Very surprised Nasri is not on the bench as well as playing both left and right midfield...

He can not play Nasri left and right at the same time

Barry is back

I think you ment villa but yes I think we do have a good chance tomorrow, a draw or at worst only losing by 1 goal get them back to anfield the atmosphere will be awesome

Lol it was meant to be milner on the other wing, baloteli, dzeko and silva are all doubts.

Barry is available.

The crunchie will be just behind, fizzing around in the hole (!).
Bag of tricks buttons in the middle.

Good news for us, the F.A rejected Kompany appeal so he will miss both games against us, Silva is out th 1st leg and i think Barry is suspended from when he got sent off against us and finally there is no Kolo or Yaya Toure so we have got a very good chance of knocking them out and hopefully winning a piece of silverware this season.

BigD

Barry is not suspended he was suspended for Sundays fa cup match but I think he might have an injury. I think we have a fantastic chance and it's our biggest game in years 2 games away from wembely could only dream of playing at wembely last year com on you reds well excited already

10 Jan 2012 14:53:56
Ed I know this is going to be controversial but what the hell. Pavlechenko he has a good goal scoring record for the last 2 seasons has had a better minutes to goals ratio than Keane, Defoe, Crouch and Van der vart, he seems to be playing well when I have seen him this season, he has premier league experience and is currently fit.
On the down side he is 30, which would mean we would have to write off any fee we would pay for him as very poor resale value. For this season and next though, until our reserves are old enough for the first team he could do a job. The spurs fans I know like him but he doesn't seem to fit into Redknaps plans. He has to be less of a gamble than Ba who (like Carrol) has had a good 6 months at Newcastle and apparently dodgy Knees.
In the past we have had Garry Mac and others for the last part of their career and the mancs do it until a much better option is available or one of their kids is ready to step in. I'm getting a bit tired of us getting players because they can play in a couple of positions, generally they are missing something in both positions for me unless they are really world class and they are currently out of reach for various reasons. I would rather we invested in a genuine winger and striker and if we could get an experienced player in cheap and spend more on another youngster then I have no problems with that. The question is how much?
RNred
{Ed001's Note - for a terrible player like that? More than we would want to pay.}

I'm not claiming he's the best player in the world but he gets goals. and theres an excellent chance that come the end of the season he will have more goals than any of our forwards especially if we look at goals to games played?
Although think hell be off this window anyway Ed to be honest.
RNred {Ed001's Note - I could score up front for Spurs, they are very good going forward, but I have seen toddlers with better touch than Pav.}

As a spurs fan i have to kind of agree with the ed but only to a point..he isnt a terrible player and thats where the difference ends! yes hes very lazy and at times that comes across that even the blind can see!! when the lad wants to play he can, but, only when he wants to, the lad certainly knows where the goal is, shame really cause he could be a very good player if he wasnt so lazy, but terrible no {Ed001's Note - I do agree, it is laziness that makes him so poor.}

Posted on Tuesday, 10th
January 2012 by Barry
Ringstead
Over the past weeks I've
read and heard a lot
from the "holier-than-
thou" London-centric
media about how
Liverpool have set a bad
example supporting
Suarez and for wearing
"those t-shirts" during
the warm-up prior to the
Wigan game. How
Dalglish and Liverpool
should have simply (read
meekly) accepted the
decision of the FA's
independent commission
(they hadn't got the guts
to make a decision on
their own), apologize and
move on. That Liverpool
should have taught
Suarez, and all overseas
players, about what and
what is not acceptable to
say to another player in
the heat-of-the moment
and so and and so forth.
What utter "let's print
this crap so we can sell
more newspapers"
journalism this truly is.
Are we supposed to
respect this kind of
preaching from those
who a few months ago
were happily tapping
some innocents mobile? I
didn't think so.
What the football media
have totally
underestimated is just
how strong the Liverpool
family really is and
always will be. When
injustice is served up
cold, as Liverpool have
had to endure again and
again over the decades,
it unites Liverpool
supporters and the team
even more strongly.
When Liverpool came
running onto the field
wearing Suarez shirts I
couldn't have been
prouder of my team and
of Kenny for making a
stand against the flawed
justice they had been
handed down to Suarez.
What the band-wagon
media failed to
recognize, or
acknowledge, was that
Liverpool and their fans
are totally against
racism. Always have
been, always will be.
Liverpool is a multi-
cultural, multi-racial club
and proud of it. Just ask
the likes of John Barnes
who has stated that the
FA are guilty of
crucifying Suarez.
To say I love Liverpool is
an understatement,
however, that doesn't
mean I blindly support or
condone anything a
player may do that is
out-of-order i.e. if
Downing did indeed hit
his ex-girlfriend then he
needs to get what's
coming to him, both
personally and
professionally.
So Liverpool have taken
the high-road and
decided to accept the
decision of the FA's
independent commission.
I'm disappointed but
respect it but let's be
clear, Liverpool are not
the London media's, or
the FA's, favourite
football team and never
will be. The media never
questioned the hypocrisy
of the FA fighting UEFA
to reduce Rooney's
violent conduct 3-match
ban versus Liverpool's
right to question Suarez's
8-match ban. And if Terry
is found guilty of racism
will we see the same
level of justice meted
out? Don't hold your
breath.

If that's a poem
it does not rhyme

Mancini confident they will win kompany appeal !
If this happens after the spearing and barton bans
then this smacks of double standards and total nonsense from refs and the FA.

But we did not appeal the Spearing ban.

And just think about that tackle by Lampard V wolves , I have said it be4 , this is def the worst year for refs , so for me , while most appeals fail , this is so high profile , that its 50/50 for me , redforever

But I am sure Wolves will be keeping a close eye on events after their player, Milijas, was sent-off against Arsenal for a good tackle but they lost their appeal.

I was reading that of the 473 disciplinary cases that the FA heard between December 2010 and December 2011 only two of them ended with not guilty verdicts. None of the 471 guilty verdict were overturned on appeal.

That is a 99.5% conviction rate compared to 80% for the law courts.

JRG

Ha Man City lose their appeal , over the Kompany sending off , now they can also feel hard done by , I wonder if a certain someone made a sly fone call . redforever

But Liverpool didn't appeal Jay's red card even though it was ridiculous sending off.

always a red

Kompany is banned for 4 games,it's on the fa site. Zaydan123

4 game ban stays, I knew this would happen as Man Utd are helped all the time. Watch city get screwed in the remaining months

FA reject appeal apparently,
according to bbc sport.

Kompany appeal rejected, misses both legs against us,bring it on,ynwa,

They haven't won the appeal so he's out for four games.

Redjinal

I know the appeal failing works in our favor but how on earth has that not been rescinded? He literally came away with the ball at his feet and for once Nani didn't dive. Makes you wonder who are these people in charge of the game.
Anyway cant wait for the game tomorrow i think we may even surprise a few people and a win but right now i'd settle for a draw.

always a red

Kompany also misses the city v spurs game , which will please fergie , bet he was the 1st to know the appeal failed , redforever

Tiote was banned for a similar offence last season, the diffrence being Tiote won the ball and the player tripped over his chest.. but both feet came off the ground. Dems da roolz - player to sign for liverpool soon

What are everyones teams to play Man City?

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Gerrard(c) Spearing Adam Downing

Carroll Bellamy

subs - Doni, Kelly, Coates, Henderson, Maxi, Shelvey, Kuyt.

(No place for Carra or Aurelio - a strong defence. I was thinking of the future giving Kelly & Coates the nod!)

BJH YNWA.

I would play the following team at City, with two up-front at Anfield in the return leg.

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Spearing

Bellamy Gerrard Adam Downing

Carroll

Kompany and Yaya Toure did the damage last time round and Kompany's ban will be upheld. Carroll will get some reward for his recent hard work. We will get to Anfield with a score draw.

Billericay Red

I would like
Renia
Kelly. Agger. Skertal. Jose
Spearing
Downing. Henderson. Gerrard. Bellamy
Carroll

James

If we are talking about wednesday night I think it will be Liverpool

Reina
Kelly Skertle Agger Enrique

Kuyt Spearing Adam Bellamy

Gerrard
Carroll

I would go with:

------------Reina-----------
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique
----------Spearing----------
-----Gerrard-----Maxi-------
Bellamy--=-Carroll----Downing

After Downing and Carroll's goals they definetly need to play and hopefully use those goals as a build up of confidence. Gerrard has reached match fitness and therefore must be in line for a starting position. Bellamy should play on the right with Downing on the left as they seem to play better in these positions. Maxi links up well with Bellamy and is always a goal scoring threat. so I would chose him over Adam.

KennyD JFT96

The same set up as lasttime would be fine.

DaveyBootle

Reina
Kelly-Skrtel-Coates-Enrique
Spearing
Bellamy-Gerrard-Henderson-Maxi
Kuyt

I would like to see this team given a chance. Just to try and inject a bit of pace into our play going forward.

Reina

Johnson Skirtl Agger Enrique

Kelly Gerrard Henderson Downing

Carroll Bellamy

Kris the Red

I think we should play 4-1-4-1, personally. Don't let Man City breathe.

Reina
Kelly - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
Spearing
Gerrard - Henderson/Maxi - Bellamy - Downing
Carroll

RenegadeRed

Swap kelly around with johnson then yer

Like that team, ild like to see kelly and johnson swap around but im not sure if thats an issue with johnson. kelly is a really good defender

Just swap johnson for kelly if you ask me.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa

I'd go with
reina
johnson skrtle agger enrique
hendo spearing adam downing
gerrard
bellamey

----------reina------------
jonson-skrtel-agger-enrique
-------gerrard-adam-------
bellamy-henderson-downing
----------carroll-----------
4-2-3-1
this wont allow silva and aguero to work their magic as well as shutting nasri and whatever other striker they play out

I put Kelly and Johnson in those positions because I have read on here numerous times that Johnson has a clause in his contract that prevents him playing on the right wing to protect his england chances. I just reckon they would both do well together.

Hi eds don't know if it's true but I heard sturrige is stalling over contract talks. I was wondering do you think lfc would be interested in him if he was to become available. My gues would be summer if we were. He's a fantastic talent. Would like to here your opinion on the possible situation. {Ed001's Note - I don't believe there is a chance in hell he would ever consider lowering his wage demands enough for us to get him. He is greedy, that's why he left City in the first place.}

10 Jan 2012 13:35:04
Ed why is everyone going on about Lukas Podolski. His record over the last 5 years at club level is terrible. Granted he bangs them in for Germany but do we really need a striker than could only get 15 goals in 71 games for a dominant Bayern Munich side. I think we need to be looking at a better palyer than him. {Ed001's Note - he didn't have a good time at Bayern, but then Henry was useless for Juve and Bergkamp was dire for Inter. You can't judge a player based on a bad spell, not unless you watch him constantly and see if he was misused by them.}

But ed over the last 5 years his record is very bad that is over a few clubs not just bayern {Ed001's Note - a few? Two do you mean? And I would like to know are you referring to his stats or his performances? Because they are totally different things.}

And this year he is in very good touch. so what make u think he is out of form ?

Hardly any goals in 5 years says he is not the striker we need

10 Jan 2012 13:33:50
I know there has been all sorts of rumors going on but personally i do not think liverpool will get any big players in january however i do think liverpool will get a temporary striker to score goals to get us in the champions league e.g. defoe, kalou

10 Jan 2012 13:21:01
Ed, just for fun if you had £30m to buy 1 player (forget about wages etc) who would you buy then?
RNred {Ed001's Note - I doubt 30m would buy Javi Martinez or it would be him. I would go for Soldado I think.}

Hazard

Yeah good call. I like the lad Erickson to, think he good do a good job for us.

I'm with the ed...make it £40 mil and get Martinez

I've read that Chelsea are stalling over securing daniel Sturidges future at Stamford bridge.
Now there's a striker worth a cheeky bid and fully fits our criteria on buying

10 Jan 2012 12:45:44
ed/eds , do you think we will add a couple of players to the squad in jan , wont get into any names , just like your view, do you think we need a couple of players , thanks.............lfc {Ed001's Note - yes, I expect a couple of players to arrive, right wing and strikers were the main positions we were scouting, though right backs have also been extensively scouted.}

10 Jan 2012 12:40:12
Herbie - are you trying to flatter me? It won't work.

Gar - why don't you try to post without the need to
insert an asterisk in a word.Just try - you can
do it !

Mike - Not sure why you consider me bewildered?
You three named above (and Ed007) didn't like
my post..silly yes..but the basic point is
accurate AF is keeping Giggs on and now
persuading Scholes to help out and even their
most fervent admirers would have to admit
that they are no longer first team quality AND
if they ARE
that just shows how weak AF has allowed the
team/squad to become. Once or twice I have
asked the question 'why does your manager
seem to go out of his way to save spending
Glazer;s money on transfers?

We need to stop with all the banter about 'big signings' coming in as we are just not going to attract those kind of players at this present time. Don't get me wrong, I would love for us to bring in some ground breaking signings, but I just don't see that happening at this time.

Personally I would like to see KK & DC carry on the current recruitment regime (young, PL experience). I feel that Hoilett would be a great acquisition to our first team, and at the money that we can afford. I feel that we definately need to bring in another striker and would ear-mark the likes of Ba or Rhodes, despite the injury concerns and lack of PL experience respectively.

We also need to be utilising our youngsters more as well. Sterling and Suso are ready for some first team exposure! Don't you think Eds?

Keep up the good work.

Clint Dempsey - too good for FUlham, talented, strong, gifted, works hard, links play, can pass and can finish. He would be an asset. Anyone else agree?

10 Jan 2012 12:10:04
We don't need Junior Hoilett. Why? Well if anyone had bothered to tune into 434 last night, instead of watching the lifeless AFC verses LUFC game you'd get your answer.

I watched the Under 18's in full at the weekend in their game against Crewe. I have to say I was utterly shocked at the poor performance of many individuals and the team in general. Whether that was because of the high winds I do not know, but the Academy ground is better than some League 2 pitches, it is a billiard table. However one guy stood out from the dregs, a young lad called Yalany Baio (sp). This lad oozed class. Passes it with confidence, looks comfortable on the ball and a tremendous prospect. Keep an eye out for him. Defensive midfielder who reminds me of Makelele a bit.

However greatly cheered last night watching Bolton –v- Liverpool resses. We have some fantastic talent full of potential all over the park. The young 'superdad' Sterling continues to improve and he looked outstanding last night on the right wing. Still extremely green and still with lots to learn, especially when he isn't on the ball, but the progression Rodolfo has made with him in a short time is amazing.

That said we have more than Sterling. Adorjan and Ngoo were very impressive, Suso was out suspended and Tony Silva made a later cameo appearance and was also very impressive (great left peg)

Added to that we have Connor Coady and Steven Sama who again looked very impressive. If the club are going to air free to view live games of the reserves and you are a true supporter of the club, why would you even contemplate watching Arsenal on a subscription channel? Still trying to get my head around this.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game last night AND we managed to hit the bar and both posts, so emulating the first team. Seriously whilst the majority of the resses are very young and look impressive they are still a way off from first team involvement on a regular basis and the club must have a difficult balance to achieve progression. One where trying to oversee their development, to one which gives them an opportunity at a higher level than reserve team football but which will see them getting coached elsewhere i.e. loans. If the likes of Sama, Coady for example were to be palmed out on loan to clubs like Shrewsbury for example, the style of play would not suit their development one iota (long ball) yet the question of whether they'd play regularly at championship level (example Blackpool) is open to debate at this moment in time. Tough call.

The pitch last night was dreadful, the refereeing not much better but Bolton has 3 or 4 players that are first team squad members like Blake, Tuncay and Boyata playing and we were by far the better side for much of the game.

I urge all fans to watch our young starlets in action at every opportunity. I need to watch the Under 18's again. They cannot be that bad again. But last year's crop was superb to be fair. Watch them, especially the resses and calls for the likes of Hoilett will long disappear from your minds.

Bob the Red (future's still rosy)

I watched it last night and Sterling played on the left wing as usual not the right.

Sterling, Silva, Suso, Coady, Wisdom, Sama and Brad Smith have great potential but I think Sterling is the only one that consistently displays world class potential.

The others are all talented individuals but Sterling stands out. Last night highlighted his only flaw which is that he needs to work on his composure in front of goal.

Nevertheless I envisage after another full pre-season with the first team, he will be given game time coming off the bench in the EPL and maybe start the initall Europa League games.

{Ed006's Note - Not Champions League?}

Bob I work at sea so unable to see the reserves often, in your opinion then how long before they are likely to be ready for the first team?
RNred

Unless we start scoring europa is the most realistic target.

Great post Bob, said the same earlier about the Reserves, really played well albeit unlucky against a vastly more experienced team.

Richards

Europa league? Champions league is still a definite possibility

Statement from Oldham FC:

"The Chairman and Directors of Oldham Athletic Football Club would like to thank Liverpool Football Club and officers of the Merseyside Police for their concerns and painstaking efforts in investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident involving Tom Adeyemi.

"Excellent communication has been maintained and the Club and player have been notified of every detail during the progress of the investigation. The professional standards applied throughout have been praiseworthy.

"The Club would also like to thank the numerous fans from Liverpool and Oldham, and also those from around the country, who have sent letters of support to Tom.

"This type of incident is contained within a minority and should not deflect from a superb match that was enjoyed by both sets of Club officials and fans.

"We wish Liverpool every success in the next round of the Cup."

who cares it is liverpool v the world now and we will win

...just posted this on the FARE facebook page... was removed within 10 minutes!

Thank you Oldham. I think that is an important statement any should hopefully repair some of the damage that has been done to our reputation over the past few weeks. I also think the Norwich manager has been very fair and responsible with his comments over this incident.

With sensible handling, the only club we will have fallen out with is Man U and we hated them anyway. I recommend the club has a no dialoguepolicy to those lying scum down the East Lancs road. Kenny should refuse to talk to red nose. Our players should refrain from saying a single word to any of their players at any level of the game. Our board should refuse to talk to their board. We have nothing to gain by talking to them and as Luis discovered, a lot to lose.

I just found this article:

Tue 10th Jan 2012 | Marketing & PR

Liverpool Football Club have arrived in Qatar to begin a partnership with the United Nations aimed at helping children from war-torn and impoverished countries.

The UN has invited along 30 young adults from grassroots sporting projects in Africa and Palestine to work with coaches from the LFC Foundation and other sporting organisations.

Speaking from the camp, LFC Foundation coach Forbes Duff said: "We've got a long history of successful community projects back in England and around the world and we're aiming to pass on the knowledge and best practice we've acquired over the years to these young people so they can return home and become leaders in their own community.

"Although this is a pilot project at this stage, and it's the first of its kind, we're hoping to build strong links with the UN and give many more people the same opportunity we're giving these initial 30."

Liverpool were approached by the UN in November to be the Premier League's representative in this project due to its global appeal. It is hoped this will be the first of many youth leadership camps - and there is already a plan to bring five of the 30 young people to Merseyside in the near future.

LFC Foundation director Gary Adlen added: "It's not just about playing a bit of football and coaching them - it's about teaching them life skills for the future.

"We want to go with these kids through the journey they're going to take for the rest of their lives."

The so-called youth leadership camp has been organised by the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) in collaboration with Right to Play and the Aspire Academy for Sport Excellence.

The Premier League, the German Agency for International Cooperation and the International Paralympic Committee are also heavily involved in the 10-day camp in Doha.

Just a couple of points I'd like to make to a few posters on here.

1. Fergie does not control the universe, he does not even control manchester. Think logically if Fergie really was in with the FA and got everything his own way, he would never get suspensions, he would never get punished by the FA (which he did fairly recently for criticising a referee). His players have had some very lengthy bans when they have done something wrong, if he really did control the FA Ferdinand wouldn't have got any ban for skipping a drugs test, Cantona wouldn't for karate kicking a fan. Or at the very least they would have got minimal bans. Any fan who thinks that Fergie does control the FA is both delusional and paranoid.

2. In my opinion Suarez wont go anywhere. I know people have talked about loss of sponsorship money which I completely understand. However should we sell and then not make Champs league that would be far more damaging to our potential and current sponsors. Next he will not get 'tagged' as a racist for his entire career. Some players actually have done racist things and still survived. Di Canio is a manager in this country at present and he has done some very racist things in Italy, no-one is campaigning to get him out, they still worship him at West Ham.

3. Someone used the phrase fight fire with fire, I'm no chemistry or physics professor but I am pretty sure that what you get when you fight fire with fire is a much bigger fire. Thats why firemen use water. In the context of arguments what this means is when you retaliate all you do is create more trouble. There is not an occassion in history where this is not true. Ghandi had the right idea. Lets not stoop to other teams levels we are supposed to be better than that.

Rewflo

Well they've got to make it look as if he's not haven't they?

The term fight fire with fire derives from the method of controlling bush forest and morrland fires, they will burn an area around the fire in a controlled manner so when the fire reaches said area there is no more fuel to burn therfore allowing the fire to burn out nice an quietly ;-)

Fair enough regarding fight fire with fire comment, being bornand raised in england the only time I see forest fires is on tv or film.

Cant believe how many people actually think Fergie has power outside Old Trafford.

Rewflo

I remember a few years ago Red Nose said he didnt want a certain referee at old trafford again...Ooohhhh Guess who was never at old trafford again? (sorry but cant remember what the refs name was!

Think it was a ref who dared give a penalty against united , now that is just not on , sorry fergie , the tide is beginning to turn , and your starting to feel the heat , I will predict that you will win nothing this season . redforever

2 more lost like Newcastle Frogy will be out of Focus . don't worry about him.

Cant believe your gullibleness Redflow

Am I missing something here? The Liverpool board and scouting system should have had possible targets prioritised well before the transfer window opened. So you would expect with the Suarez ban and Carroll form that if we wanted to get a striker, January 1st at 9am we would have started to make inroads to sign our main targets. Now 10 days later there is not a word of any bids of any kind. So it asks the question are we even interested in anyone now or does Kenny have faith in who we have til summer. With our circumstances why would we wait til last day of transfer window?

Kev the Red

What, so do you want Kenny to be like that Wheeler Dealer ol' 'Arry Redknapp? Blubbing about who he's gonna sign next and how amazing his club is? No.

No, I am saying that Kenny has staff in place thats only role is to scout and sign players. So what I am asking is do they only work in January or do they work from kenny's directives to get everything in place so when window opens we can start the ball rolling sooner rather than later so we dont have a situation where it is transfer deadline day at 11pm and we are scrambling round selling and buying.. {Ed002's Note - The scouting staff are the responsibility of Comolli and not Dalglish. They work year round.}

My thoughts are we have to keep everything quiet for a reason......that reason could be played out like this:

Liverpool bid early in the window say £35m for Hazard....say no other 'big' clubs have spent any money at the point we make a bid. Next thing Chelsea, Man U, Man City, Spurs, Barca, Real, AC & Inter, PSG and whoever else bids....Now forget you are a LFC fan for a minute and think which club, right now, would you join as a player for the next 3-5 years, personally I would be packing my sun cream. I think some of its like poker.....wait and watch what others do before making your move or you could be ambushed.
K79

I think your right there K79, DC and co will probably be collating as much up to date information about the current situation regarding our top targets avialable. Then depending on the info, they will put in place a strategic process with regards to the amounts of intial bids, when they will be placed and in what order etc. The red button will be pressed by KK when the time is right. They are top expereicned professionals, let them get on with it.

10 Jan 2012 11:04:15
Hi Ed, any truth in the rumour that Man City and Chelsea have bid for Angel Di Maria? I remember a while back you saying that he was a target for them, but do you know if they've bid? It could possibly open the door for us to go in for Adam Johnson... {Ed001's Note - they bid for him in the summer, Madrid said he wasn't going anywhere then. But they are looking to raise some cash to splash now, so circumstances have changed. I don't know if City have bid, but if Di Maria becomes available they certainly will, Mancini rates him highly.}

I hope he goes to city so we can get Adam Johnson
Red-raj

Be carefull what you wish for, they might spend the money they get off city on Johnson and Suarez?

Suarez surely have to leave these shores all together(If does go

10 Jan 2012 11:03:46
With it being the tenth of January today and being 1/3 of the way through the transfer window. When do you expect to see any movement if any do you think it will be in the next 10 days or do you think it will all be done last minute. As for saurez to real Madrid i think all the fans dismissing this need to hold there horses. I would be disappointed if he left I do not think it will happen in January. I think the club will wait and see if he can handle the pressure and stick he will get from opposition fans up and down the country first before making any dessision. The owners might have a different idea all together. I would like to draw a line under all of this but I can't help but think that the club mismanaged the whole situation and think the club need a very good pr officer / spin doctor to help. I think kk has had to answer all the questions on his own with no senior management getting involved.

10 Jan 2012 10:58:12
Talk of Sturridge and Chavski falling out over a contract. This is a player we should be looking at. I was sure we were going to sign him at last minute when Meireles went. What are the chances of signing him? He fits John Henrys criteria. Is this a possible transfer? Great site.

He would certainly find a place in our team, either on the right wing or alongside Suarez upfront. If this transfer was possible and economically viable, I'm sure FSG would support Kenny and Comolli in going for him.

We dont need to sign anybody. Why spend money on players when we have great youngsters. Suso , sterling, coady, morgan and so on.

Eds in your opinion who out of the youngster would you tip to make the break through into the 1st team ?

Thx Marc {Ed001's Note - Coady or Morgan I would think.}

I have seen coady play and I can see him becoming a regular in the first eleven. Good future lies ahead.

Torres leaving did not and has not made us stronger......the end

Hasn't made us weaker

Too right.. We missing all those goals he is banging in for Chelski.

With big andy and kuyt not hitting any form, surez out for 8 and not a prolific goal scorer anyway......id say el nino leaving def did not make us stronger!

Put him back in our team playing to his strenths (which for some reason they dont do at chavski) he would score plenty

We were not creating any chances for Torres. I am certain he would have had converted more of the chances we have created than our current strike force. But he has gone now and aint coming back so we have to move on.

Kev the Red

Torres leaving resulted in us getting both Suarez and Carroll. Yes, currently the are not firing on all cylinders, and have brought around some unwanted publicity, but in the long run have made us stronger. Even if Suarez gets sold, we'll still bring in a profit, strengthening us further from when Torres was here.

Kenny should be sacked for the signings he has made and the money flushed down the toliet.I think to take a gamble on carroll he risked it all and it did not work.To sign hedo instead of mata is a joke apart from enrique and bellamy who cost a combined 7 million he has wasted the rest of the cash.suarez has runied the reputation of liverpool forever with his help.I really can't see John Henry backing him again.

Suarez has runied our reputation in the world of football.Carroll is the worst signing Liverpool have ever made. Shows what a good judge of players kenny is

Liverpool did better with torres...FACT...apart from the last 6mths when he was so obvoiusly carrying an injury, football isn't about making a profit it's about winning things, you could say liverpool do not play to carrol's strenths as clelsea do not play to el nino's thus making them not look as good a player as they both did at their previous clubs, and kk has done so much for liverpool and still is......legend.

Let us clear a few things up about big andy carroll and this 35mil,chelsea was told they would pay 15mil more than it would cost us to get sum 1 in.the fact is if carroll cost 5mil torres would of left for 20mil.torres wanted to give up his red shirt 4 a blue 1,his choice we will move on from him

mr brown

What does everyone think of hoilett? good player for us or not? just want to get a few opinons because i cant make my mind up.

LFCANT

He's a left winger and we need a right winger

redkenyan

Ild go with Raheem Sterling, hes 18 soon, so age shouldnt be an issue, some people saying that hes not old enough!
JayB {Ed002's Note - I thought he had only just turned 17.}

Will be a good signing, he's verstalie and will mean competetion for places down that left hand side. It's a squad game now, not just a first 11 game

He is a 'right footed' left winger...so he will cut inside but is not shabby with his left foot. Young, strong and is eager to run at people in the final third. To me looks a younger, quicker, stronger version of Ashley Young. Also has a very good work rate, I think it could be a very good deal for anything less than £8m.
K79 {Ed002's Note - I thought according to Twitter he had already signed?}

He plays on the right

The thing the bothers me is he plays at a below average team (No disrespect to Blackburn).

Like G. Cahill, if he was anywhere near good enough his team wouldn't be in the relegation zone.

That said, he IS a good player playing in a poor side and he's pacey, but I think we could do better.

We're LFC and should be scouting players from teams that are of higher caliber. Again though (hypocrytically), there are a few rough diamonds in lower status teams, and he could be one of them.

I have contradicting opinions, so like yourself i'm undecided, but take a chance and see/let himself prove he's good enough? Definately.

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

He has reportedly said Liverpool are no longer a big club and he wants to be in the champs league.

In terms of making a comparison, he's like a right-footed version of Charles N'Zogbia when he first broke through, only Hoilett has a much better work-rate, he does not seem to share the attitude problem or ego of the Frenchman either, which is a bonus.

He has phenomenal raw ability, he's quick, strong and skillful, a fantastic dribbler and can pick out a good cross, even when cutting in on his right foot, (a-la Sterling) - he'd be a threat from any attacking position imo, such is his ability - but he plays primarily in wide areas. I have seen little evidence of any great aerial ability, but then, Thierry Henry wasn't great in the air, but he wasn't a bad striker either...

imo he shares a lot of the qualities of a young Henry when he ran the flanks for Monaco, all raw pace and the dribbling ability and flair to beat people for fun - the end product came later.

For this reason i'd say he could be quality playing up-front someday too.

To be critical, he needs to learn when to release the ball as he sometimes holds it too long, playing himself into trouble, but then, he is very young - and if he is complimented by better players he may feel less inclined to try and do it all himself.

I wanted us to sign him during the summer. He looked quality last season too. He's not just a flash in the pan. He'll be a fantastic player.

He'd easily be the most exciting signing we've made since Suarez - but it just seems too good to be true.

I always argued that Suarez was amazing when we were after him and opinion was divided there. I think I am a good judge of a player. Usually once or twice seeing a player and I know if he'll be good enough. Trust me - he's class.

I'm gonna remain skeptical though.... I don't wanna be disappointed.

I'd like to see him play on the right, although every time I watched him he's played on the left, I could see him being as a budget version of Eden Hazard, and he could turn out to be every bit as good as him - and that's high praise. I am aware how good Hazard is (aren't we all?!)

Then Downing can get back to the left again too. We'd be a lot more dangerous imo.

BJH YNWA. (turned into a scouting report there, but you did ask!)

Hey eds just wondering I have a feeling liverpool are going to sign someone we don't expect to join liverpool
What are you r thoughts ed
Are you thinking what I'm thinking ?

Definately.

Sorry Eds. This was supposed to be a reply to the OP above:

Is it possible to delete my post here?

sensational return henry to arsenal..truly great destroyer...dont forget liverpool have make sensational return which is bellamy...r u agree?

but liverpool need striker like henry to ensure top4 place....

Liverpool need a manager who knows what he is doing. How can we spent 55 million on forwards and still need another

Because we bought 2 for 55 million and one is now banned for a quarter of a season, hardly rocket science that mate

Also what top team has 2 good strikers only? with Bellamy proving his worth on the wings we need someone else to fight for a starting spot

Demba Ba is having a 'virtual' medical at Melwood. He is actually in Africa but his national team are putting him through the medical whilst Melwood staff watch on high bandwidth webcams. Fee is undisclosed.

I understand it is a bit shaky as the 55 year old coach can't keep the camera steady during the shuttle runs. So far, so good. Apparently a female member of the Melwood Medical Staff said "nice legs, hubba hubba".

Don't forget how many times the mancs in particular have had players hated by the public for acts which I consider to be worse than name calling in the heat of an argument. Cantona drop kicking a supporter, Ferdinand running away from a drug test, Beckham was booed all over the Country for a few months after his World Cup debacle. The mancs didn't sell any of them and it was all soon forgotten and they as Club were back to their Holyer than Thou position.
My point is Suarez will be fine, Liverpool will get the best PR men in to show the World the other side of Suarez. A family man involved in charitable work promoting equality in football and all the boos will die down.
kidmillions

And dont forget Rooney with the prostitutes and the old women ....nice club

You make it sound so simple that I actually believe you.

How did you do that.......... all the negativity is gone in 1 and a half paragraphs!

I am getting bored of this Suarez leaving rubbish. He is our best player and he is staying. lets focus on the Carling cup game. Do not put spearing or shelvey in that team for tomorrow. we are playing against man city, not a mid table team. kuyt is not going to score and he still hasn't scored his 50th league goal. Also start Bellamy, Gerrard and Kelly. I still feel that Kenny should go out there and buy a striker as we have not got anyone who can score goals consistently. What do u guys think?. Thank you and YNWA.

Spearing was our best player against them last time! the time before that he wiped out yaya! Couldn't see anyone else doing that! He will play!

Stevie is our best player.

We are in need of a goalscoring striker. Why no one has mentioned the name of Mohammed "Moa" Abdelaoe of Hannover is strange. He is one of the most effective strikers in Europe and would not come too expensive. Hopefully we have had him watched, because i would love to see my fellow countryman inn the red jersey.

NorwegianRED

There are plenty of high-scoring strikers around Europe. Just look at the Senegal squad: Moussa Sow, Papiss Demba Cisse and N'Doye, who scored 25 in 31 in Denmark last season. Baba Diawara, who didn't make the squad, is the top scorer in the Portuguese league and has a buy-out clause of 8.5 million.

But we're not just going to sign any in-form striker out there. We'll have our targets and if they're available we'll go for them. We won't go for an in-form striker now at the expense of bringing in a genuine target in the summer

Last week Ferguson stated that if Liverpool wanted to build bridges they should approach Manchester United before announcing it to the press. Once again a case of one rule for him and another for everyone else. In the Evra case why didn't he approach Kenny Dalglish before going to the referee and allowing Evra to state on French TV that Suarez had used the F-word against him? I would also like to say that we all know (like the F-word) what it means and it is a disgusting word to use by anyone. From what I have read the N-word IMPLIED was never used. It was all implied to fire up a situation that coulda, woulda, shoulda been sorted out between the two clubs and the players involved.
Dutchmal

The reason he never did that is obvious he wanted to cause trouble for one of our better players from what I've heard evra didn't really want to go through with all this it was fergie he can't get Suarez making a mug out of his defence out of his head

Why didn't Fergie got ot Dalglish? Because he was looking to for tactical advantage over Liverpool... Teh very least it will stiry something up for a few months to take distract... at teh very best ti will involve a ban a a media witch hunt! He is a master at this folks... Managers and teams need to be sharp with Fergie!

Just like Rafa said!

Now that the Dust has settled a little bit on the Saurez racism row, I have to say that in my honest opinion Luis Suarez has come out of this with his reputation tarnished and it's going to be difficult for him to carry on now - especially at away grounds.. As a Liverpool fan I just hope he is thick skinned. I can't help feeling that Evra has gone and told tales on our star man which as a Liverpool fan makes me feel he is a bit of a jessy for doing so. I absolutely condemn what Saurez said but you are not telling me that worse things haven't been said over the premiership over the years which have gone unpunished?

It's going to be difficult now in my eyes for the F.A to uphold the presidence they have set. Such a lengthy ban for the crime in question?

If I was Saurez Id get my head down and keep my mouth shut for a year and concentrate on what he's good at. Im not sure it's going to be possible for him in England now but time is a good healer. I just wish it hadn't been against Man Utd, all I feel is that it has polarised my hatred towards them, right or wrong - selfishly I see it as they have got Saurez banned for a quarter of the season, and the media has enjoyed having a go at Liverpool in my opinion, it's become a witch hunt at times.

Gazman

Gazman

A good post with sums up my feelings exactly. It is clear that Luis feels badly done by in this incident, especially as what Evra said to him is at least as bad and has gone totally unpunished. You are right that Luis is in for serious stick at away grounds, he is also going to be subjected to serious attempts to wind him up by other players. I just hope he is level headed enough to exact his revenge by embarassing opponents and ripping their defence apart and does not get dragged into further disciplinary trouble through lashing out or gesturing at opposing fans.

Bob

To be fair the word for n****r in Espanol is Negro, the word for black is also Negro.

They don't differentiate between the two terms, and are therefore synonymous.

This leads me to believe (probably naively) that there is no seperate (Derogatory) word for the discrimanatory word n****r.

So hence I could say "John Barnes es Negro", and he could probably sue me.

It is a cultural linguistic difference, and to me Suarez was used to make an example of. Imagine the uproar from Chelsea had the FA seen it for what it was, and accepted Suarez was "Ignorant" due to cultural difference!

The FA are shameful, ironically they are doing a good thing by attempting to eradicate racism. It's a catch 22.

Just my opinion.

Let's leave the Suarez incident in bed where it belongs and concentrate on Football :0)

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

Thats because in Spain they still think racist is acceptable in many parts. To them the use of the word negro for a black person is normal. Although you are correct and the spanish word for black is Negro.

Utter crap i lived in spain for 10 years, negro simple means black nothing else

Does anyone know what Kenny's record is versus LFC (at Newcastle, Blackburn)?

cozinoz

Its not the best mate... Only 4 wins in 11 matches v LFC during that time. All of these came with Blackburn; winning each of the League home games against us from the 92/93 season onwards, as well as a 1-0 win at Anfield in December 93. The other two PL away matches were lost, as was the 4th round League Cup fixture in Nov 94 (when we went on to lift the trophy...) With Newcastle there were three league defeats, including that incredible 3-4 result where the Toon had fought back from 0-3 down only to have God finish them off in injury time! There was also another League Cup defeat at Anfield, this time in the Q/F in Jan 98. Looking up this info brought back some great memories! (I can highly recommend it if you're also tired of all this silly negativity lately...)

Gotta believe that potential suitors for Suarez would refrain from making a bid for him till the end of the transfer window, given he will have served most of his ban. Just to sorta quash any rumours of a recent bid like.. Don't think he will leave like, just our owners mettle may be tested with a bid on last few days..

Love the site by the way.. I'm basically addicted to it.

Morrit.

I believe if he was to move abroad the ban won't count - McMenemy {Ed002's Note - The ban would be ratified by UEFA and continue across Europe.}

what are peoples thoughts on the fact that the sweet fa are to write to liverpool and the scum ahead of the cup tie?
they never bothered their ars*s when we approached whisky face before the draw but now all of a sudden they are concerned... oh so its ok to send 3000 scousers to mold trafford next month without trying to defuse the situation but when 6000 of the boys have to come to anfield its crises time at the fa. me thinks the puppet master has spoken to his bitches in suits as he wouldn't want to send his team into the lions den.
i hope as soon as that letter arrives at our beautiful club the king has brewed one up in advance and wipes his royal behind with it.
we should not cooperate with the fa on this matter. maybe then they will treat us with a bit of respect in future.

Some of you boys need to get a life, the majority of your fans are decent people unfortunately the minority pull the rest down.... HERBIE(MUFC)

Sorry, I think we should totally work with the FA on this matter... Whilst I understand your sentiments, It would be bad PR to be seen not to.

We get bad pr whatever we do. i think we should fight fire with fire

Guys, calm down. We dont have a beef with the united supporters.....they are just supporters like us.

Evra has told untruths and will have to live with what he has done to a professional footballers reputation for the rest of his life. I hope we see 'WE LOVE PATRICIA' signs to let him know how we feel.

Rooney, now theres a player to lead by example that everyone would want your kids to follow (not)

Fergie gets all he asks for, the man has no dignity, Kenny has. His recent Tv clip shows everyone what Kenny is and why he is universally adored by LFC fans.

Lets move on guys

tel 1949

I think we should fight fire with hydrogen and cause a real mess.

{Ed002's Note - Let's just hope that those attending the game can behave decently and that they don't have the attitude being shown here by some. I can absolutely assure you that it will be the club that suffers in the long term.}

ED002 spot on as usual!

I was angry over the whole Suarez trial by media thing, but there is NOTHING to be gained by carrying this aggro on.

There is EVERYTHING to be gained by showing our class and fine traditions that people have always liked LFC for

For those of you continually questioning Kenny's transfer record, what do you make of this?

2006 Michael Carrick 25 £18.6m
2011 Charlie Adam 25 £7m

Don't forget inflation!

D-Day (1892)

To be fair.

£35m - Andy Carroll.
£7m - Javier Hernandez.

So far the player we buy only one of them can return us Profit Suarez. and rest all will be hard to sale in the bought price. Man utd make huge money from C.Ronaldo so they can make few flop sign. Rafa also did well As Alonso, Torres return good profit and Reina still in the team is good asset.

You missed Enrique. He will make profit

ed, i can CONFIRM (from 3 genuine sources of mine) that we are VERY interested in hoilett, so much so that we have bidded for him. frankly, i am astounded as to how you've heard absolutely nothing from your sources regarding hoilett. forget about bids, you're reluctant to even acknowledge that fact that we're interested in him, which i find amazing. perhaps you should look at how much your sources actually know..... {Ed005's Note - Perhaps you should look at your spelling.}

1--it is obvious we lack cover in front of back 4 since lucas injured..i think sissoko, tiote, is gona be good partner with adam/hendo at the center..gerrard play behing striker as usual...
2-striker that suit our style of play is really what we need right now to achieve top 4..there's no use sign xpensive player if he not comfortable wit the way lfc play..
3-i think lfc will sign 2 players this jan transfer. Striker that can also play winger and defensive mid.
4-Eds, tis KD still prefer to sign English player this jan transfer?

Dtg'lfc {Ed005's Note - Well of course we'll need to take into consideration the home-grown rules when we determine what player to sign however I don't think we'd take one player over another just because he is English/British. We'll sign the right player for the right price and if he's English of course that's a bonus. Wages are a factor also.}

10 Jan 2012 00:55:54
Liverpool interested in taking 19 year old Internazionale striker Luc Castaignos on loan with option to buy....With 13 goals, Castaignos is the all-time top scorer of the Netherlands U17 in 17 games,1 goal in 4 for inter this season..must be true, spurs are linked as well..tevez is set to join inter so they may be surplus to a striker...

Why would we take this player on loan? Its not like he's gonna be playing in our first team squad does it? Surely we have better players in our reserves/academy like Adam Morgan (only 18), David Moli (only 19) and Suso (19). After all our academy is supposed to be one of the best in world football

My team vs City would encompass Bellamy on the right wipping in crosses for Carroll, Downing on the left using his know how to allow Enrique to over lap at the right moments to undo Richards, Maxi floating around linking play and supporting Carroll with his clever movement and getting into the box to take chances. I woud prefer Kelly at right back but KK doesnt drop Johnson. Spearing prefferred to Adam as he is not mobile nor quick enough against De Jong and Milner. And Gerrard better at dictating play from deep out to the wings or drive forward playing clever one-twos with Maxi to get into the box or a scoring position.

-----------Reina-----------
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique

----Spearing--Gerrard------

Bellamy----Maxi----Downing

----------Carroll----------

Subs: Carra, Kelly, Adam, Henderson, Shelvey, Kuyt

SNOWTURD

I agree but I'd swap Shelvey or Adam in for Maxi - they've both got a bit more drive in the final third

Red Ollie

-----------Reina-----------
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique

----Spearing--Adam------

Bellamy----Gerrard----Downing

----------Carroll----------

Subs: Carra, Kelly, Maxi, Henderson, Shelvey, Kuyt

Winning 0-2 at 70 mins and bring on Henderson for Bellamy and Shelvey on for Gerrard

RedChris

Nearly every time maxi plays he scores so I would rather have him in than shelves an Adam and there so called drive.
Kp

Since daglish has taken over, maxi has shown us what a great pro he is. doesnt always get a look in and never moans about it, but when he does, he does the business. great movement and link up play. a great squad player

LUIS SUAREZ'S black international pal Alvaro Pereira has warned Patrice Evra he will have to wear body armour when France meet Uruguay in a friendly later this year.

There is uproar in South America over the Liverpool man's eight-match ban, and the clash between Evra's country and Uruguay in August threatens to become an all-out war.

FC Porto's Pereira said: "Evra is going to have to wear body armour. If I 'm called negro, I laugh. But now it's a crime to say something on the pitch.
"If this happened in South America, they'd have to suspend everyone. I think Man United tried to take advantage of this situation and prevent one of Liverpool's best players from playing. That's sad."

Since the Sky deal in 1992, Man.U have done every trick in the book to make sure Liverpool have as many hurdles as possible to win the premiership.
Fergie can't beat Dalglish on an even playing field, thus why he has to evolve dirty tricks on top of getting huge loans, to buy up all the best overseas players, to keep the overseas fan base revenue stream coming in, whereas Liverpool with an identity would never fleece their own people to rival Man.U spending.

I'm happy to say this is all coming to an end, because fergies buying of all the talent has really hit the wall since he bought about 10 worthless players in the last couple of years. HA!

Red7.

That's right.

For those of you continually questioning Kenny's transfer record, what do you make of this?

2006 Michael Carrick 25 £18.6m
2011 Charlie Adam 25 £7m

Don't forget inflation!!

D-Day (1892)

Where and when was this said or published?

The first part of the post was interesting.
The second part, well it is just business and strategy (read Sun Tzu's The Art of war, and all about "gaining" Strategic advantage).

"Evra has a complex. He is not proud to be black. If I am called 'negro', I start laughing. My team-mates call me 'negro' and in South America it can also be used in an affectionate way.

"It is obvious that you can use this word with good or bad intentions, but I always laugh. Evra must have some kind of problem about being black, or some inferiority complex. I do not."

Great Response

I read a different article and the comment about armour was not in the form shown above, it was similar to that 'when France and Uruaguy meet in a friendly later in 2012 Evra will have to wear body armour'

17 year old gerard deulofeu can breeze past players with ease similar qualities as messi.

One for the future coming through the barcelona ranks dare we do arsenals tactics buy him young and sell them back to them for a high price?

ACHILLES.

There's no way we'll get Deulofeu on the cheap. He's played for the first team and that tactic only works with Spanish players under 17 because of contract restrictions in Spain.
