Ed01 for years you have always said Honda would be your top signing.
You have done this so many times that i find myself hoping we will sign him and gutted when we missed the opportunity.
Tell me this why do you rate him so highly and do you think we will make a move.

Also what are the views on James McCarthy I think he has real potential would also love Tony Watt lad had trials with us and is a real goal scorer. {Ed001's Note - Honda is just a very good player, he is not really like Stevie Nicol, but he reminds me of him, in that you can stick him anywhere on the pitch and he performs. I don't expect us to move for him though, unfortunately.
I did like the look of McCarthy, but he has not shown the improvements in his game that you would expect. If anything, I think his game has shown a regression, especially this season. That could just be form and the need to work with better players to raise his game though.
Watt I think is going to be a star, best young Scottish talent I have seen in years. Celtic have a gem there, they just need to handle him right.}

Utd fan in peace

Just wanted to say ed is right about honda, he is a brilliant little player.

However I disagree about McCarthy i feel he has stepped up this year after a little regression last season. With better players around him he could be a lynch pin for your/most sides in the prem.

Finally Watt is a quality player as well and he has, so far, been handled really well. Since he burst on the scene i haven't been excited but a young striker as much as by him.

Anyway good luck for Sunday, we all know the win is much more a neccessity for you than for us. i do however see us still winning by a couple of goals ;)

Paso

James mcCarthy wants to play for everton, he had the chance to come to us when he left scotland but chose wigan

Hi eds where are these ashley cole rumours coming from? he would be a great signing i know chelsea have said he can leave but i doubt he would come to liverpool we couldent afford his wages an plus he would want champions league football! jay

Plus, I cannot think of a player I despise more. I'm pretty sure 90% of the people on these forums feel the same. I'd rather play in League 2 than have him anywhere near our club.
John YNWA

I'd have Forest gump in the Liverpool team than be in division 2. Lfc fazak

Eds what is the latest on kenny dalglish returnin in some sort of role at lfc is it true lfc havr offered him
A position and is he willing to come back?

10 Jan 2013 22:18:33
With some of Stewart Downings performances of late, it is compatible to the signing of a new player.

I hope he doesn't let us down and revert back to his old ways. He could be an asset for a long time if he continues on his way.

Levans.

He s gone in summer

10 Jan 2013 22:13:50
Plea to the KING, DO NOT under any circumstances take any job offer throwin at you by these yanks, they are using you Kenny to get fans back onside/deflect any criticism of there transfer policy and to use your name around the world for profit! Tell them to take there job and shove it!!

Waro

Yes waro I'm sure kenny is a big fan of this site and will obviously take your expert advice on board!
JJ

There is a lot of food for thought in your post Waro, particularly from someone as connected to the club as you (which you have 100% proved again and again and again ).
But this post really got me thinking, its not the first time I heard/read similar stuff. --I just hope you wrong
Roy

What a strange way to look at things. I certainly don't see the "Yanks" trying to "profit" from offering Dalglish a role in the club he so dearly loves.

Liverpres

Does it hurt to be so angry?? What will you do if he takes it? Does that make you a wiser and better man than the KING??? How would you forgive yourself?

Mike S

After he flushed 100 million pounds of their money down the toulet its the least he can do

Plus it will take an agreement with BR so that will show unity

We all want what's best for the club so why be so negative

Wow youre close to paranoia now, Waro. Wouldnt it be awful if Kenny was re-employed by Liverpool FC.

cozinoz

The King did not waste the money. He was not given enough time to work with the players the CLUB agreed to buy.

San

To the OP; what's wrong with that? It is a business, that is why businesses employ people. Learn to deal. You are way too emotional.

Hang on we have suarez enrique downing henderson still on board so how did he flush 100 million down the toilet

andy carroll yes but we ll recoup 12 million, so 25 million flushed down the toilet

henderson and downing are both coming good after a settling in period, suarez is worht 50 million now which makes up the 25 million lost on carroll so i dunno i don't think dalglish wasted anything really

tom1975

San and tom1975, could not agree more with your comments. Nice to see it's not full of Kenny haters on here. Well said lads!

Waro

Cheers Roy, I hope i'm wrong aswell.

Waro

11 Jan 2013 11:20:54
I'm not sure FSG really need to ' keep the fans onside'. It seems to be a small majority who don't like them, and you'll get that wherever/whoever.
WelshBoyDave

Waro

i think kenny was released too soon. i think he went to the owners wanting lots of ching ching to gte us right back up there, they said no and went for the alternative option in rodgers.

simple as that

tom1975 {Ed002's Note - That is not why he went Tom.}

Its you Waro, of course you're wrong

10 Jan 2013 22:04:06
Liverpool have to sign Michu if the chance should come. Just what we need...a tough tall striker who has the skill to score vital goals.

A tough tall striker
=================
We got one on our books :)

Roy

He's not a striker. He's an attacking very attacking midfielder (sorry if I'm wrong)

RedSpud {Ed001's Note - you aren't mate. He was bought to play behind Graham and has stated himself on a number of occasions he is a midfielder. Can't argue with his goalscoring though!}

Thought i was ed, just didn't want to be bombarded with trolls if i was haha!

10 Jan 2013 21:36:12
hi eds, any truth in farfan coming to liverpool? would be a great winger for us with suarez and sturridge, also how much would he be if we were looking into buying him?

cheers

10 Jan 2013 21:24:18
Have liverpool actually made a 10 million pound bid for moussa sow. was on lfc website and it said that a turkish newspaper had claimed to have heard of an offer from liverpool.

thanks in advance, Spud

Strange when you could probably get him for half that.

10 Jan 2013 21:23:21
Hi ed's, just a quick comment, when we have played against a big centre forward such as benteke (villa), jones (stoke) and even carlton cole (west ham) skrtel and agger seem to get bullied, and I, m hearing rumours of coates maybe leaving, surely br needs to play him in these type of games, has that is the weak link I see this season, would like eds and reds oppinions, and who you's would like to replace coates if he does leave, are we still interested in the reading centre half who contract runs out in summer, pearce who something?? Thanks dhh

I reckon this is coz of zonal marking and the second ball. Its not being bullied, its being positionally unsure as you often don't get the covering defender that you would if it were a man-marking system.

I wouldn't like to replace him at all, he's a very good defender, some of the tackles he makes are quality, and his physical presence is something we need. Not only that, he's demonstrated he can also score. The problem is he makes silly mistakes, but when a player isn't getting game time then this is going to be an issue; for him to iron his game out he needs to be playing more. Hopefully his time will come, he has the propensity to be a fantastic asset, and he's still very young.

Thoughts of yourselves and readers of this page if it DID happen. Cant see it myself.

Great site.

So do we.

Rumours floating around about king Kenny as an ambassador. makes sense. Tagged on to these are director of football type things..... Not sure br likes that kind of thing.

Any thing you brilliant eds have heard?

Ambassador is someone that promotes the name of Liverpool FC, and would be sent out to do the odd publicity stunts and such... Nothing close or anything to do with a Director of Football, who would be directly involved in footballing matters.....

10 Jan 2013 20:54:11
Great site, i am slightly disappointed however that the word smokescreen has not been used in this transfer window!! A lot of posters usually state that x or why being talked about is a smokescreen for another player coming in.

Anyway, apparently Ince is a smokescreen for the Sneijder deal to take place. apparently he is prepared to take a drop in wages (how much i don't know) to play in prem and is happy with the team not being in CL. Galatasaray offered him 160k net / week but he sees that as a lower class league and a backward step given his aim of Rio 2014.

Smokescreen bit is bit of a laugh, Sneijder stuff isn't.

LOTS of conflicting views regarding Tom Ince. Some say its a done deal, others say its far from done, others say its off, others remain in the middle.

Its partly down to Blackpool, we already have previous with them over Charlie Adam, and that dragged on, and even when a deal was eventually reached, they took 2 youth players from us. I know one was Gerardo Bruna, the other I can't remember (was it 2? correct me if I'm wrong eds!)

Lots of people have told me that Tom Ince was separate, and that he was offered multiple new contracts, but Tom and his dad turned them down in favor of playing football. So Blackpool came in and Tom got to play week in week out playing Championship football.

I don't think anybody expected such improvement if I'm honest, nobody was heartbroken when he left. He seemed a yard or two slow, lightweight, and erratic. And this was at reserve level.

The Oyston's are f*ckers when it comes to this sort of thing. But I honestly don't think this time it is all Blackpool, because when we was first sniffing around, Holloway was still manager. So I gotta feeling his dad Paul is having a lot of say in his sons career here, he wants to hold of until more clubs come in. I reckon they are waiting for Manchester United to come in. And if it doesnt happen, they will only look at Liverpool then.

If thats the case, then I strongly suggest we move on and forget about the player, because he has already showed desire to play elsewhere, and wasn't willing to knuckle down and play here. (If Tom had stayed, he could have found himself in Sterling's position at the moment, with lots of youngsters getting opportunity's to wear the shirt under Rodgers)

So Ed's, I know I have waffled on here, what is preventing this from happening IYO? Is it Blackpool? Is it the player? Players father? Or is it Liverpool playing the Dempsey-game on their valuation? Or is it a mixture?

Cheers. {Ed001's Note - right now it is simply that we haven't met Blackpool's asking price, no deal will be done without that. Then it will be up to us to convince the lad himself that it is the right move at this point in his career. His dad will advise him, but it is still his decision. The fact that Sterling was already pushing him out of his reserve place, hence he was sent out on loan, might give him reservations about a return.}

Ed if what you say is true about him being pushed out because of Raheem then I think it's better we walk away, you have to earn the right to have a place in the team and his attitude doesn't seem like it.

Gee man

Leave the ince deal off in my opinion. I am just not convinced about him at all and maybe we should just walk away from it. Gameiro on loan would be a cracking signing.

It was Ibe, not Sterling.

So cole out, sturridge and ince? In.
Plus borini and Lucas back from long term injury.
Little tweaks but our squad looks a million times better on paper going into the second half of this season.

MIKEY

Add a striker / attacker with experience for when in the final third finds that final ball or decisive strike were sorted

mayhem 1981

Agree Mikey, no excuses now: we have another striker; the team has had time to gel and get used to BRs methods; our injured first teamers are back (except Enrique and Kelly); our inexperienced youngsters have had experience.
It's time to see what Brendon's team and philosophy is capable of. Personally, I still think Top 4 is within our reach but anything above our current position must be viewed as successful this season and a springboard to even better next year.

cozinoz

Mid season predictions anyone

mine was 5/6th but within 3 points of fourth spot and a huge springboard towards next year

i said this in ugust and i m sticking to it

we re gonna see some good football for the second half of the season especially the last ten game i think

tom1975

Top 4 still a tough ask. High likelihood of 6 points being maximum we will achieve in next 4 games which will mean we are further back than we are now going into Mid Feb. to make top 4 we'd need to be getting average 2 pts a game at least then until the end of the season. Possible but not probable. I predict 6th, a cup run and a solid base to kick on from next season when we should be the equal of Spurs Nd Arsenal and with 2 or maybe all 3 of the big 3 having new managers. That may cause at least 1 of them to drop back a bit. The work being done on and off the pitch this season will make us stronger in years to come. Brendan must be given time to build a team for the future.

10 Jan 2013 20:08:52
Ed001 given our transfer policies and funding who would you like to see us approach? Personally I think Kevin Gameiro would be worth a push.

Dan. {Ed001's Note - it would still be Keisuke Honda for me.}

Diego from wolfsburg, **** the madness he's got craft. someone behind suarezwith a clever ball
5gold stars

Spot on ed001, i think so too. you have not been on for a while where have you been ?
hisbylfc {Ed001's Note - I have been about mate, just not tended to get many posts that called for replies. Luckily for you lot ;o). I did have my parents staying over Xmas, so I wasn't spending as much time online as usual and I took the little one home to the greatest city in the world for a few days too. In her words, it was 'AWESOME!!!!'. The emphasis was needed because that was how she described Liverpool when asked by the receptionist in the hotel, bless her.}

You had your parents over I had my mother in law over that will probably make you feel better. Liverpool is the best city in the world, and has the best people in the world, they are welcoming, warm, friendly and will help and give a hand. We have sports, arts, music, river, sea, culture, science, shopping, fun for kids everything and it is safe unlike what many people think. I think London is not as safe as Lpool, actually very far from it. Oh and we are cheaper than down south as well. You have less crowds less people everywhere and cleaner air.I can go on and on, so your daughter is right.
hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - I fully agree mate, I much prefer Liverpool to anywhere else, just need to keep dragging my daughter up there until she falls in love with it too.}

Ed 1, don't you live in Liverpool?

INDIAN SCOUSER YNWA {Ed001's Note - not any more mate. My daughter lives down south so I do, at least until she is a bit older, when hopefully she will see the light!}

If we get to sign another player this window, it has to be Honda like ed001 said. This guy can play as the No.10 as well as a striker, so he is bound to create chances as well as score goals. Plus he would come pretty cheap.

FSG went "all in" giving kk 100m in transfer funds and it backfired! and all of a sudden our transfer policy is to buy youth with potential to lower the wage structure? besides the fact this will hinder our own younger players we have quality players in the reserves if we want to introduce even more youth, if anything our wage structure has increased even though cole has gone with the sahin loan, sterling contract, sturridge signing, ince on the cards and another possible loan, so we are basically looking for cheaper options. Yes FSG have backed BR in the transfer market but with a thin squad he hasnt had an option to go for better players. So frustrating when everyone can see we are 2 quality proven experienced players away from having a quality side to really push for 4th, I know its a big ask but look at how we have played this season(bar 3-4 where we didn't turn up), dominated the play and we have the highest shots per game(19) than any other team in the league. were not 3- 4 years away from creating a perfect team at all...thats when ffp comes into play and if we carry on with this policy we won't even be in europe to be kicked out of it!

JOZLFC

Agree, we have the youth, just need a couple of experienced players.

I agree with you . we are very close. we would all love us to go all out and buy 2 quality players.

Another blame kenny brigade!..

Fsg didn't give dalglish a100m for a start..

So FSG could give BR 10m to spend in the summer, then they sell Suarez for 60m and give it all to Rodgers for transfers, using your logic they have only given BR 10m?

They did give him £100 million to spend, whether £50 million of this came from the Torres deal is irrelevent. That money could have been used to balance the books. Instead they invested £50 million of their own money to balance the books, and £50 million to go along side the Torres money to fund transfer. Kenny had a £100 million budget and massively overspent on decent players.

Question that I'm sure we have all been thinking:

What makes Ed002 so sure Ince is joining?
What makes Ed001 so sure he isn't...?

They have covered all the bases, so now you don't have fret about the outcome, genius isn't it?

tommo

Its very simple. they are not magical, they are normal people. sometimes they have different opinions. would you like a diagram?

Who cares?

What is happening with Reina last I heard United waned him to replace De Gea as they were going to offer him plus Nani plus 20 mil for Ronaldo while buying Reina for 12 mil plus Lindegaard

Ahoy - the only thing worth questioning with this tripe is - which letter did you miss out of the phrase "I heard United WANED him to replace De Gea" ?

Is it a T or a K you missed out ?

And Was it Sir Alco Baconface doing the WANING ?

BOILED ONIONS

Pour me a pint of whatever you've been drinking - actually, on second thoughts, don't.

I think you got mixed up with your Football Manager game

10 Jan 2013 21:56:26
More like Nani, De Gean + 70m pounds for CR7.

I'd swap Reina for Chicarito and Carroll for Krul.

Mantis.

Even if utd somehow managed to get him back for the same price they sold him... Your valuation of de gea and nani is 60m.....congrats on whopper of the day!

10 Jan 2013 19:44:43
Bit of a change from the who will we buy stuff.

With King Kenny being muted for a role at the club again (should he want it), would anyone agree an honerable seat on the board would be good. I like the idea of a tradition of having a club legend on the board to represent the integrity and tradition of the club, kenny a good place to start. Ok his second stint in charge was tainted by bad buys at bad prices, but I still believe it was worth it, as he restored us at least back on the right path in a traditional sence.

Ya!! They could have his input on future transfers!!!!!??

Lyndon

Kenny definitely needs to be involved in the club, he's a legend and a hero for most of us, just don't let him near the purse !! Beardsley's Boot's

10 Jan 2013 19:09:27
Ed do you think sow would be a possible signing if not do you think he'd be a good signing cheers.MATTYLFC {Ed001's Note - I have no idea about him, sorry. I know I have watched games he has played in, but I have always been watching someone else so not taken any notice of him.}

10 Jan 2013 21:16:09
He obviously didn't stand out then Ed.

10 Jan 2013 19:26:14
I'm not convinced that snijder is out of liver pools reach, I'm not ITK or anything but hear he isn't going to Turkey and would take a wage cut.

He could be an ideal candidate for us and think we are still a big enough draw for him

redLee

Ya! He'll take a wage cut alright.
After inter give him his 6 mill "loyalty" bonus he's after!!!

Lyndon

Totally agree and would be a real statement of intent for a push at top 4 this year.

I'd love to know he was signed by Sunday knowing how much purple conk wanted him.

I'm starting to think united don't have the money for him, otherwise why isn't he already there?

With no one making a push for him, we could possibly get him.

Jonesred

So Lyndon

You go to work this morning and your boss tries to cut your wage by 40%, you'd stay and be a model employee

10 Jan 2013 19:23:55
if both ince and gameiro/or another forward loan comes in, downing will leave. buyers waiting in the wings, we are just waiting for incomings so we are not left short. if 2 forwards do arrive there is also a possibility of assaidi leaving on loan.

sahin also leaving. money gained from downing sale may be used for a defensive midfield cover although suso will now be played in a mid position albeit an attacking mid role.

if henderson leaves, definitely expect a mid to arrive (unlikely hendo will leave but possible.

if coates leaves perm or loan, mirin in. kelly will return to play at CB and will take carra's place in the summer.

10 Jan 2013 19:20:10
Ed001 - You say at 12m, Moussa Sow is a 'suprising' move. Does this mean you think it is overpriced, or underpriced? I usually don't beleive hype like this, but it seems to me to be rather realistic, as I can see him being a suitable substitusion or 'other dimensionary' player. Strong, agile, big, quick, a little scary. Other strikers we have been linked with are not likely to be happy playing second fiddle to Suarez/Sturridge.
Thoughts?

Ice Popp {Ed001's Note - I never said anything of the sort mate. I assume it must have been a different editor, I know nothing of Sow.}

It was not said that it IS a suprising move but rather at 12m it WOULD be a surprising move.

Andy K {Ed001's Note - that wasn't me.}

10 Jan 2013 19:05:34
On another note, was it Laudrup or his brother, who was reported to be advising our owners over the appointment of the new manager in the summer?

Ginger Rodgers {Ed001's Note - it was Laudrup who had an input.}

Did Laudrup recommend to Henry and co that they appoint Rodgers?

Plymouth Red. {Ed001's Note - I believe so.}

Laudrups a clever guy he got rid of Rodgers so he could take the helm at Swansea haha

Plymouth Red.

So laudrup said get rodgers and then gets the swansea job bit fishy edds?

grego {Ed001's Note - not really, he was asked who he thought would do the best job. He could easily have put himself forward, but he is a modest guy and instead he suggested a couple of names, I am told (though not who before anyone asks!), one of which was Rodgers. I believe David Dein also put forward Rodgers' name for consideration when asked his advice.}

Laudrup is a red why did he do this to us may be he knows what we do not best wishes to him, fsg and br ynwa

Well, not bad for a 'snake oil salesman'.

10 Jan 2013 18:59:07
Eds, having never watched Tom Ince or Arda Turan play I was wondering are they good enough? Never really understood all the hype. {Ed001's Note - Ince has improved massively, he does lack a little in the tracking back department, but his end product is improving. Still needs to pick and choose his runs better and to just get more experience to know when to pass and shoot. He has a bit of pace, and knows how to use it, but his form has dipped since Holloway left. I am not convinced he is good enough yet, but he is a much better player than the one who left us. Turan is more difficult to judge, he is playing in Spain, the worry about him is whether he can cope with a roughing up. His ability is certainly there, he looked a class above while still in Turkish football and he has looked good in Spain.}

Ince, very over hyped

10 Jan 2013 18:25:34
I can see why LFC want the young and hungry players. I understand peoples argument of well look at Michu but really how michu's is there in the world? What is to say he won't dry up in the second half of the season. He hasn't even had a full season in the prem yet. No doubt he looks a great player but he is not proven yet.

Personally although I would like someone other than Ince I think he will be a good signing and will be good value for money.

Jordan Ibe will get his chance but he may be a few years from being able to be ready to be in the squad week in week out he only 16, Ince gives us the time to bring him through at the right pace, then sell ince and make profit hopefully.

Just been told by a mate connected with Leeds (albeit loosely) that Pacheco is going there on a permanent deal? I hope this is wrong

Chris in Tamworth

Welcome back Chris from Tamworth... We've missed your input mate. Hope ya had a fantastic Christmas and New Year.

Stevie

10 Jan 2013 20:44:04
Why? He's had plenty of time to prove himself and although there is some talent there he's only ever proved that his application and his attitude aren't what they should be.

I personally don't rate him chris, he may as well go and try to kickstart his career IMO.

MIKEY

Thanks Stevie, happy new year.
Here's hoping this year that the teams playing in such a way that we all get along on here

Chris in Tamworth

Hi Chris,

I live in leeds and have a lot of friends who are LUFC supporters. I can confirm that the rumours around here are that LUFC are interested in purchasing Pacheco, although a loan spell is probably the case.

10 Jan 2013 18:21:27
Liverpool apparently looking at Fenerbache forward Moussa Sow after negotiations to bring in Gamiero on Loan fell through. Do the ed's think there is any truth in this, and if so would he like to come to Anfield?, i'm sure Dirk Kuyt would recommend it as a career move?

10 Jan 2013 18:21:04
I heard a rumour today from a good friend of mine who heard it from a source that he claims to be very trusted and accurate in tyhe past that Fernando Torres is coming back to LFC and the deal has already been signed and it will be released January 21st.

Could it be true? And what do you people think if it's turn out to be the case? Liverpool were interested to bring him back last summer so maybe now the timing is better as Ba has joined Chelsea and they still are looking for strikers (maybe Falcao?)

I would still welcome him back after all if he has learned his lessons and he still talks highly about LFC and it's supporters. I think BR's man management could bring his confidence, fighting attitude and pure joy back to his game + linking with Gerrard again along with talented Suarez.

Ask yourself the question: Does it make sense to sign Sturridge from Chelsea and then sign the player he was being sidelined for?

It doesn't make any sense at all.

He will NOT be coming back.

Excellent, it only took 10 days of the transfer window before the Torres rumours to re-start. Congratulations !
G

Is it a Teenage crush or a Man Crush!!!

If it's the later it's more serious. He's gone it may still hurt but times a great healer!!

I highly doubt this to be true, i guess we will see if plays this weekend. I can't imagine he would play if he has "signed"

The Torres that we loved died 3 years ago. He simply isn't the same player as he was in his pomp with us.

10 Jan 2013 20:53:50
I can't wait for the day that Fernando Torres goes back to spain so that this nonsense can finally stop.

When will people give it a rest with the Torres rubbish?

Joke of the day. BR is interested in the future. In players who play with passion and hunger. Sulky mercenary has-beens need not apply.

cozinoz

5 agrees. hilarious. what is wrong with you people?

Legs gone, reactions gone, determination gone, hunger gone - why would we want the worlds most expensive failure back? He made his choice; he's had his trophies and taken the rewards.
We need hungry, talented, capable players who want to wear that red shirt and are willing to sweat blood to achieve success. Bring back the Sulk; just say no.

For the 100th time, WHY?! He has lost it, he's a tenth of the player he was, and he's not coming back! How many times do the Eds have to say its not happening? He won't come back, it's a good thing he's not, move on!

Well..all I'm saying that this source of my friend got right with few "done deals" in last window way before those were heavily in press or announced by LFC.. Spearing, Adam, Allen, Sahin and Carroll + destinations for those who went on loan or were sold.. Oh, and about Joe Cole and Westham he mentioned in december that he was finally going.. I think only ones who I didn't get anything from him beforehand in last window were Yesil and Assaidi..

I know it sounded kinda weird for me too but in the other hand it would make some sense too if you think about it.. anyway I can't remeber him being wrong in the couple of windows that I've known him atleast when he have said "it's done deal" so this would probably be the first time if he turns out to be wrong.

I just wanted to see if anyone else have some knowledge about it here and what is your thoughts about it.. Don't shoot the messenger.. I'm just telling what I heard. :D

11 Jan 2013 02:34:03
Ed, if there's ever these sort of deals that trigger on a certain date - obviously "bosman's after a contract expires do it, but they're all pretty much 1st July/August - can't see a club-to-club transfer having a date inside a season.

Now daily mail already talks about Torres wanting to go back to Liverpool:

"On the field the desire and application of Fernando Torres, who was booed off by Chelsea's supporters when he was replaced by Demba Ba during the Swansea loss, is under scrutiny again.

In training, he appears disinterested and his team-mates have lost count of the number of times he has told them he wishes he was back at Liverpool. Some of the Chelsea players wish he was."

And that doesn't mean anything yet, but like I said.. What if this is true and he knows that he is coming here and getting booed by blues fans? That might affect his performance at the moment.. They haven't made that date public and that's why I still call it a rumour.. there must be some reason why they don't want to announce that deal earlier IF the rumour and date turns out to be correct + if it's true then my source must have some inside knowledge.

I know this has no chance in happening but does anyone else think that Figueroa would be a good signing as he is a good all round defender with a great shot and could cover as CB aswell as LB.

Hi Ed002,
wouldn`t it be better to go for Hooper rather than Sow? thanks for your time and work.

Is it me or is it strange for the owners to release a staement saying they are 'considering' offering Kenny an ambassadorial role? Just seems weird that this is anything to issue - either offer him the role and then make an announcement, or 'consider' it and if you're not going to do it then nothing needs saying! And if it's a case of 'word getting out' well why not just say - Liverpool will be making a statement in due course. Strange way to do business and didn't used to happen in Liverpool of old - much more was behind closed doors with little fanfare and much glory! In fairness to the owners, it'd be great to have Kenny back but why announce what you're thinking!? I don't go round telling people - 'I'm thinking about Amber Heard... now I'm thinking about Natalie Portman... now I'm thinking about the job I should be doing... now I'm thinking about Liverpool... now I'm thinking about Natalie Portman again.' That would be odd...

10 Jan 2013 20:58:27
......this is a perfect example of nit-picking at anything to have a go at the owners.

Sorry - I wasn't 'nit-picking' - I happen to be one of the apparent few on here who actually likes and supports the owners and agree with what they are trying to do. But it is a comment on the methods of releasing information - it didn't used to happen this way and to be 'considering' something like this is not a story! Either do it or don't do it and if you're gonna do it, then release a statement, othrwise you're risking alienating more fans. {Ed001's Note - I think I understand what you are saying, if so, I do agree. Far too much of the wrong type of information is released and not enough of the right type. The communications dept was a joke before the arrival of Jen Chang, it is clear his time there has not even begun to sort out the issues. Statements should be used to confirm something has happened, not to say we are thinking something over, it is pointless.}

Liverpool FC ended up treating Bill Shankly quite badly after he left his manager's role. Yes there may have been extenuating circumstances, but history shows this was one of the very few mistakes made by the management team at that time.
I hope therefore that Dalglish can be brought back to the fold in some capacity and I hope he would be agreeable to that.
The Juicer

Why what happened ??

majestic69

I would love to see Dalglish back as you can see he loves the club and to not have him there as an ambassador would be an insult to the commitment he has shown. However, I disagree with him receiving and footballing role within the club I.e. an adviser as I feel this would put unneeded pressure on Brendan

Shakily used to come back to me wood every week when he retired and the players where still calling him boss/gaffer ect this also being the fact that Paisley was his number 2 so Paisley had to do something about it and asked him to stop coming all the time bcoz it was undermining him.
Some people say they know their club should do a bit of reading.

Thats not poor treatment. that's an ego that needed to be removed. {Ed001's Note - compare it to United's treatment of their great old time manager. Busby was allowed to carry on unchecked and United lost their way, players didn't know who their boss was or who to listen to. Sometimes you have to be ruthless or you just end up struggling. That was what marked Paisley out as the greatest of all time, for me. He was utterly ruthless, having seen how Shanks would keep players around too long, out of sentiment. Sir Bob would always be looking for signs that a player was ready to go, long before anyone else realised it.}

Can I just bring everyone back to something FSG said when taking over 'we have the financial capabilities to compete with the best teams in europe' or something very similar. And after just over a year, it seems we can't even look at a player over 15m.

I'm sure they meant it. Only thing is we don't know who they've looked at, who's available or who wants to come to us. Only BR and a select few at the club would be privy to that info. The press do what they do best and speculate, or get info from other clubs, agents etc. Some true but most is fabrication based on who's available, what positions they think we need to strengthen or previous ties to the manager etc, put 2 and 2 together and usually get 5. As BR said at the start of the window if someone comes along who he feels will improve the group during the course of the window then they will bring them in. If they fit the profile he wants I don't think the money would be the issue. A large transfer fee doesn't necessarily make a player successful, torres and michu spring to mind, Simonpw

Carroll, downing, Henderson, Allen, Suarez?

MIKEY

We are not currently in a position to look at players over 15m unless someone is asking over the odds for an ordinary player. We need to compete again to aim any higher

Maybe they can see that paying the big money guarantees nothing eg carroll, downing.. Also on another point, some people on here cry when we don't sign the marquee signings for mega bucks and then bitch when we don't sign the 2m michu's of this world..MonaghanRed

Allen, downing, Henderson, Suarez, Carroll.

Nuff said

Carroll 36m
Suarez 22.5m
Downing 20m
Henderson 18m
Allen 16m

Man City and Chelsea aren't that far ahead in terms of big outlays. Just because only one of those signings is an unqualified success doesn't mean it doesn't count. These are the big players FSG referred to - only they didn't pick them. The so-called football experts did.

We are coming to the end of the game at old trafford, fergie is on the dug out chewing his own nose.

the fourth official puts up his board for 4 minutes of injury time, 4 Minutes pass..... utd are on the attack and with the crowd behind them fergie really feels they can snatch a late winner, fergie is complaining he feels there is another 3 mins to play... howard gets this info and decides its fergie time and plays on...

Gerrard takes the ball from the feet of carrick, launches the ball to sterling on the wing, sterling out paces old boots ferdinand, fergies sweating....
sterling with a beautiful cross to the un marked suarez who takes the ball on his right before spinning vidic and smashing the ball past de gea into the top corner nearly breaking the net, ynwa rings around old toilet, howard eventually blows the whistle and lfc gain a crucial victory over their old foes, later fergie complains the ref didn't play the full 7 mins of extra time!

thanks fergie.... its fergie timeeeeee...... x

10 Jan 2013 20:12:55
My ideal end.... the ball rolls back to De Gea who punts it into Luis's wrist, the ball spins uncontrolably downing both Evra and Ferdinand in the process before rolling over the line to make it 1-0. Howard Webb cries. Gabriel Heinze leaps the barrier in a T-Shirt proclaiming "I am a cold" - Old trafford collapses with no casualties - just a lot of fans wondering "why did Giggs win Personality of the Year over Jenson?". Fade to grey.

Ha ha good one but surely we will be at least 2 up by extra time

In a few months time Suarez, sturridge and borini will have a decent understanding of each others game.
Suarez is the obvious playmaker out of the 3.
Too often we have seen Suarez produce magic around the box with nobody to pass to because nobody bothers to get into a good scoring position in the box. The chance either gets wasted or suarez has to do something world class to get himself a goal.
Sturridge and maybe even more so borini will be the players who will get into the right positions and give Suarez an easy outlet or a pass rather than do everything by himself as per usual.
All 3 of our strikers will do well in this system if played together.
Just imagine Suarez pulling a defender out of position, going past him, then he has 2 players already rushing into the box, sturridge pulling a defender away as well and borini taking full advantage of all that space with just the keeper to beat.
Offensively we will be brilliant, it's just defensively we might struggle if one or more of our strikers doesn't drop back now and again to help get the ball back.

MIKEY

In a few months time the season will be over lol great post

Was looking at Borinis stats when fit for us and it showed all his positions in a match...he puts in a similar shift to what Dirk did for us...think he'll be the one to do a lot of the back tracking

Suarez also has that in his locker though!

MIKEYRED

How many times has Suarez not passed to a player in a better position - I am also not convinced Borini will succeed-from what he has shown so far he is all hard work but no quality

The season will be over yeah, then we can start next season with a complete strike force that knows each others game.
MIKEYRED I see Suarez dropping deepest out of the 3. Borini needs to be further up the field to get the most out of his talents IMO.

Dear Ed's,
can you please tell me who chooses the advertising for this site? Am I now getting ads for horny granny's because I watched a video on redtube called "mature milf takes 3 for the team" or does everyone get the same ad's? How do I make the old women go away? It is getting embarassing to use the site because some of these granny's are truly horrific ;)

please help

ReDeXe {Ed001's Note - sorry mate, it is based on your previous activity on your browser.}

A classic! All because my nanna loves "yorkshire tea" :)

Can't be true - How come I get adverts for garden sheds, red diesel sales and bookmakers when I haven't even heard of the companies?

It could be horny dwarves like on mine!

I think I've worked out why the grannies keep appearing in the adverts. I've just paid a reluctant visit to the dark side to see if anyone was awake and the grannies are on the Manu pages as well. If I remember one of their players had some kind of connection with a granny, maybe he's trying to meet up again - don't rush me I'll think of his name in a minute !

Im sure there's a setting in Google where you can choose to have advertisements based on your interests or random advertisements.

Eds, expect any surprise signings for us which are been kept under the radar? Such as an assaidi type buy for literally nothing? Keep up the good work eds. {Ed001's Note - I think that is the most likely thing now. We all knew Sturridge was on the cards and that we would try for Ince. Now we have Sturridge and Ince is proving difficult, it will force us to look elsewhere, which has a good chance to be someone under the radar. If only because the radar has been firmly focused on those 2 players.}

Assaidi cost 2 million and has hardly played.
I know he's been injured, but why do people site this as a great cheap deal?

10 Jan 2013 17:10:19
we are not signing cavani, sneijder and the like. But we are putting together a team so in 2 years time we can compete again. Liverpool fans need to support the team and trust brendan as i believe he will bring the good times back. we've seen it coming together over the last 8 or 9 games haven't we?

Also people need to stop asking if suarez is leaving all the time. Suarez loves playing for lfc and all the media rubbish just spurs him on more to score goals, so we shouldn't worry about him as he is a strong character.
Langatang

Aside from the Stoke and Villa games, yes. There's been a slow improvement, I've always said Rodgers is the right man for the job, he's building something great here and in a couple of years we will be right back up there.

GLfc

Not again another post in 2 more years we will be great give over

What is someone who believes we are on the right track meant to post? 'We're going to win the league this year!' when this is obviously untrue. I believe we're moving in the right direction, slowly developing a team with a coherant idea influencing the youth teams' and academy. Happy that we seem to have a nice blend of youth and experienced players who want to play for us. I really hope BR is our manager in four years time because I think if he is we'll have a chance which is all you can hope for, surely? Tired of all the bitching and negativity on here when I know the silent majority are happy with the team.

Ince will join for £6m (loan back for rest of season) and Gameiro on loan.

What would be the point of that? We need bodies so let's pay 6 mil for a player we won't use this season!?!?
Time for your meds

10 Jan 2013 17:06:03
Just heard that red nose ferggie ins looking at bringing in another ref as he said one isn't enough, also guys is a slight handball any worse than diving in the area to get a pen,, Ashley young, has done this on many occasions

Ahsley Young diving is irrelevant. Which one is worse doesn't matter. The fact is that what Suarez did was wrong and the goal should never of stood.
It's not just Suarez and Bale than people have an issue with. The fact is that diving and cheating is spoiling the game and unfortunately foreign players such as Suarez think it's acceptable because they got away with it in different countries.

Players like Owen, Ba, Rooney, Solskjaer, Sherringham, Shearer ETC don't and didn't have a reputation for cheating because they didn't do it!

Players make a rod for there own back. {Ed001's Note - are you blind or just insane? Owen was a diver, Ba is a diver, Rooney is a diver and a cheat on and off the pitch, etc etc. Shearer is the worst of the lot though, every game he was a thug who frightened defenders with nasty elbows and stamps on their feet. Ask Neil Lennon what a nice guy he is! Even worse was his attitude afterwards. Diving and cheating is endemic in sport in general, nothing to do with foreigners.}

Forget the handball - no one, and I mean no one, in professional or amateur football would not have played on and put the ball in the net. And as Graham Poll has said even if Suarez had said the ball hit his hand the goal would have stood irrespective.

John B

Where did you hear that?

Well said ed001.
We would all like the game to be a lot cleaner, but nobody seems willing to put in the effort to clean up the game so you kind of need to accept it's all part and parcel of this sport. Women's football is not half as bad for these incidents. If people hate it so much they should watch that.

MIKEY

Rooney isn't a cheat lol.... On and off the pitch lol .... Superb! Got to ask the original poster... Do you think Messi is a cheat? If the answer is no then go on YouTube and type in.... Messi handball goal and enjoy..... That is miles worse than Suarez at Mansfield, I don't get why people are still talking about it really! It was ball to hand, he couldn't move it out of the way at that speed! Yes he dives but he's cleaned up his act recently, I think bale has taken over lol, all this over an accidental handball is pathetic now lets move on and look forward to hopefully a cracking game between 2 great rivals and hopefully a Liverpool win

Well said ED001 !
Tel 1949

10 Jan 2013 21:24:09
OP You obviously didn't see the goal that Ba scored with his hand against Reading earlier this season.

Graham Kelly claimed that at the f.a.hearing involving the kick on Lennon shearer told the f.a. If he was heavily sanctioned he would not play in the world cup, all this it's only foreigners that cheat is utter rubbish, & simply tabloid nonsense {Ed001's Note - there is no doubt that Shearer threatened to refuse to play for England again if he was punished.}

When will people realise. It's the officials!

Combine that with the prizes/penalties.

It was always going to happen.

Get over it.

Watch the footy or don't.

Our best signing this year will be King Kenny back as ambassador. The owners value his love of Liverpool FC and the city. YNWA aklfc

And if that was our only Signing!
You wouldn't be saying that would you!!

Lyndon

As long as we don't let him near the cheque book!

Also if kenny was there do you think any of our young talent would be getting a chance sterling, wisdom, suso etc they'd all be out on loan with an option to buy.a fine example is Ince if kenny would if given him a chance we might not be paying 6m for one of our own players.

SimoLFC

Can you lot not see tht this guy single handily left are club in turmoil, he spent 75m on mediocre players, one off them is on loan at west ham and the other two downing and Hendo are still trying to justify there price tag. Fair doooos to Hendo though he is starting to play well And I can see his potential. It is because of daglish why fsg aren't will to give us a big transfer kitty, because the last time they did we finished 8th. I for one don't want daglish having any say at are club or we ll end up league 2. When will you us liverpool fans not realise this.

SimoLFC

11 Jan 2013 02:23:19
Simon you should be ashamed how can you bark at kenny and what makes you think his signings were poor if we judge players in bases of year then Rodgers has been big failure coz neither his signings have contributed neither league table have improved but we have gone backwards.

Kenny has won trophys that Rodgers can only dream forget winning. In short kenny has won more trophys then arsene wenger in his short spell as manager at the sametime he has won trophys with every team he has managed.

Rodgers has a lot of things to prove he has been total failure after spending more then 55-60M which is net spendind rather then player sales hasn't improve our team by even 0.1% the table doesn't lie.

I have your 'toy' in my posession, probably left here during my daughter's birthday party. Would you mind if I return it back to you as urgent as possible? I gladly 'oblige' to bear any inconveniences whatsoever.

This kids is what continued use of m-cat does...

I blame google translate, it probably sounded better in your own language, whatever planet that is..

If this post is about Torres, I feel sorry for the kid - he realises now what a terrible decision he made two years ago. CFC what a horrible, horrible club to be chained to - he was loved up here and was great, down there all he gets is plastic flag waving persons sneering at him - and they wonder why he has struggled?

10 Jan 2013 16:35:39
In my opinion I don't think we should block one of our developing stars by buying ince. Instead put the money away and purchase eriksen as the only summer signing and that should do us until next year when hopefully more of our kids will have stepped up.

Eriksen would not sign unless we had champions league football. That can't be guarenteed. Ibe is only 16 it may take him two season to break into first team and another season to establish himself as a regular. Three years what are we suppose to do just do with having sterling and suarez for our wingers and borini and sturridge in the middle! what happens is sterling or suarez gets banned or injured. All of a sudden we have players playing out of there best position!

10 Jan 2013 16:28:32
I reckon we push Chelsea with a £10 mill bid for Torres, he'd have to take a wage cut though.

U can have him for free pls. I'll bring him myself, just reserve the 10m pounds for his wages.

£10 million too much.

10 Jan 2013 18:30:43
I honestly think £10M from Munich or Milan might start a negotiation.

There's no way they can accept £10m from us without losing loads of credibility - it's like use giving the barcodes £5M to take AC back.

How would we work around the fact he's now completely rubbish?

Not to sure on this, what makes you think Torres will improve if he did come back coz he looks like a list child on a football pitch now

I'd rather a 10m bid for J.Cole

Don't want him back thanks. We'll give Chelsea 2 million to keep him there.

10m is a lot of money to pay for a tea lady but if his Earl Grey is seriously that good, why not?

I am led to believe that Coates is actually very highly rated by Liverpool, BR believes he is a bit prone to mistakes at this time, so they want to send him out on loan to give him a run of games, i really really doubt he will be sold

LFC93

He is a good talent for the future, hope its only loan!

Chaki

Could you possibly have been led to believe this by the Echo's live webchat this afternoon? Don't try and pass off stuff like this as though it's coming from your personal source kid.

I heard he was struggling to settle in the UK. A run of games aint gonna cure that.

10 Jan 2013 14:44:56
Is there any chance of the people who are constantly going on about suarez leaving giving it a break. How many times has he to come out and say how much he loves the club and that he is living the dream. Yous are boring me. Cheers ed. Ynwa. Joelfc1892

Seems you are worried about it though lad or you wouldnt have made this post.If you truly believed he would stay you would be able to just have a wry smile every time you read their comment.
Fact is no player cannot have his head turned and we know that.I personally think he might stay but in no way am I confident of the fact he is class and every team in the world will be clambering over themselves to get him and offering him silly wages at that.

Kopping a feel

Suarez loved Ajax and it's fans loved him too, yet here we are... I wouldn't put too much faith in anything any player says publicly about their love for the club. They are simply professional athletes trying to make money, support their families, and possibly win things. I love my employeer as well- until someone comes along and offers me a better deal.

Let's enjoy him while he's here. As long as he doesnt do a McMananman, a Mascherano or a Torres when he leaves then he deserves what he wishes from his career

cozinoz

I could see your point if it was in response to somebody else but you started the topic

10 Jan 2013 14:38:28
Sounds like Sahin, is not a very happy chappy.
We should move him on ASAP, don't need negative Torres type players at LFC.

Or give him some game time?

Chris in Tamworth

He has to earn game time and he clearly hasn't done that.

Got to earn the game time when he's come in he's looked poor then he says he should be playing in lucas position he can't even tackle further up the pitch and you have to bear in mind rodgers is watching him in training. you don't get in off performances from when he played for dortmand he actually reminds me of lucas when he first arrived he worked hard kept his head down and got in the gym given time he could be a good player. has he or we got the time well not when its only a loan or when the player is kicking up a fuss.

I was interested to know if BR was considering a move for Michu when he was still at Swansea.
What a absolute gem of a player, and only £2m.

Leave the Michu thing alone please!

A Turkish (the country, not Jason Statham's character in Snatch) newspaper is reporting Liverpool have made a £14m bid for Moussa Sow.

Am I right in thinking that this is something more suited to Turkish the character - a comedic situation?

Probably just paper talk mate, but would be a good signing. a few figures being quoted too, between £10-£15M.

Is it just me or would anyone else love to see suarez score the winning goal deep into fergie time, run over to the dugout kissing his wrist, dive in front of fergie, get up and point at his imaginary watch and tell him his breath stinks! Would love fergies reaction to that! Any other ideas? ! Great site eds! Hope we smash united sunday!

That made me chuckle!

That would make me very happy, the best bottle of whiskey would be getting opened.

I'm embarrassed by this small club mentality we seem to be developing.

It's just one league game out of 38.

It is not a cup final.

What is the point of
loan players?

Would you prefer we had bought sahin? It can be seen as a try before you buy. Also to boost your squad for a season without actually buying a player. Smaller clubs loan the bigger clubs youngsters, it can help the club gain promotion whild developing the youngster giving him gametime. Jdog

Every fixture against united we have fergie spouting off about 'forget the bad blood and focus on football etc.'
yet he's the only one ever trying to influence the mind games beforehand and manipulating the refs into decisions he wants. would love to beat them just to see his stupid face crying. prat!

Hi Eds, seems like we are in for Leo Baptisao! The kid looks good and is young. Any truth in this? Also Moussa Sow is now back on our list. I still think we are in for a surprise this transfer window. Not sure where I read or heard that we will be making a surprise signing towards the end of the window with John Henry flying over!

are we ever going to be linked with any decent players? FSG have cut the wage bill but filled the team with Brock! why are we not competing with the big teams for players, all i read recently is that we are chasing players that QPR, souhampton and villa are after, get a grip! Dont tell me its because we arent in the champions league, PSG, ManCity, Spurs could all attract top players without CL football. after that rant is there any truth in the Kevin Grosskreutz from dortmund rumours?

Yea and how much do they pay on wages, have think.mate

Billynwa

It has far less to do with not having CL (although that doesn't help) and more to do with not having the money to chase those types of players.

I am a Saints supporter but I won't take your remark about my club badly!

However, also against the thoughts of some of our supporters, there is a limit to how much rich owners will continue to fork out if they think previous signings have been reckless. With us, the current chairman is trying his best to make sure that the football club doesn't suffer that problem. With Liverpool, sorry mate, but that is the situation you are now in and I feel for BR, as he has not been at fault. But, the supporters also need to take some responsibility for continuing to want to spend huge amounts of money for short term gain. Not being over critical, but your owners must view the attempts to sign Ince as just about summing up the reckless waste of money that has happened-surely the lad could have been put out on loan?? {Ed001's Note - he had been on loan and came back and refused to sign a new contract, we couldn't keep him.}

10 Jan 2013 12:55:54
Moussa Sissoko available for 3.5m euros! If we cancel Sahin's loan and bring in Sissoko and a striker on loan (Gameiro?) that would be fantastic business.

Red Ollie

Maybe Sissoko isn't as good as people think. Maybe Gameiro is no better than someone like Arshavin. Maybe we're thinking a bit more clearly about our transfer policy. Will guarantee 95% of folks listing Sissoko and Gameiro as signings have never seen them play a full game never mind the 10-12 any sane scout would.

why do a lot of red fans still go on about rafa the manager, we all know he is a nice guy, but thats not the point, you all say he would be a better manager if he got money to spen, to me that applies to any manager, and i think he spent a lot of money at liverpool, how much did torres, aquallini and johnson cost, so yes he did have money but all you who say he never had money tell me were he got the money to buy players, and please don't say he had to sell before he could buy, is that what most managers around the world have to do, no matter how much you give rafa it woukd b=never be enough, and come on look at the talent in the chelsea squad they have some seriuos talent, also if rafa was still in charge alonso would not come back, so how many out there would have alonso over rafa

mickey b

And how much did Torres sell for? How much is Johnson worth ? and Aquilani was a talent but his attitude stunk but 2 out of 3 with profit is still good.

Plus Johnson is a first name on the sheet so I don't see why you are butching about him.

Kopping a feel

Johnson isn't very young so not much Profit their then!!!

Also he was Awful more than not when Rafa was here!!

He man not be your "Hero" like Rafa. But he's improved Greatly under Rodgers.

Afternoon all, hope your all well.

With all the talk of Kenny coming back as an ambassador, its made me think of other ex LFC members who I would have liked to be back at the club in some sort of role.

Personally, I would of liked to have Roy Evans and Robbie Fowler in some sort of coaching roles.

Opinions please......(Eds and posters) if possible please

Cheers

United Kolours Of Bennetton {Ed001's Note - please, please, please bring back Roy Evans as a coach!!}

Haha my sentiments exactly Ed001!

Imo, given more time he could and prob would have lead us to a PL title. And GOD is my favorite LFC striker ever! Granted I'm only 31 years old so older supporters may disagree with that thought. However, I think he would be fantastic to have around for the likes of Morgan, Yesil etc....and prob Danny Sturridge for that matter!

That hatrick against Arsenal in 5 mins (or whatever it was)....still one of the most amazing things ive ever seen in football

Would have to agree am 34 and fowler was the greatest..............andy.

Roy Evans is a top guy and breathes LFC. Remember that he lost his job because he only came 4TH in the League one year !!

Couldn't agree more about Evans. If he had been given 1 more season without the silly decision of joint managership I think he would have got us there, as for fowler, well, does anyody NOT want him back at the club in a coaching capacity? Very very fewI would imagine.

Looks like we'll miss out on butland as he wants 1st team football and with reina returning to form of late I think it will be a good young keeper we will miss out. I hope we strengthen our team over jan tho as we do look a bit thin on the ground with all these competitions coming up.

10 Jan 2013 18:06:23
I don't rate Butland. There was hype around hime because he was in the GB team but if you actually see him play for Birmingham, he isn't very good. {Ed001's Note - I am with you, he was ok in League 2, for some reason got loads of hype and jumped up into the GB team. Now he is struggling in the Championship and doesn't look a good signing at all. It would be a huge risk to take with them asking for far too much for his current ability.}

Not signing Butland can never be described as "missing out".

If only we had missed out on such young keepers as Kirkland, James, Warner etc

I really hope Wisdom plays this weekend.

In his 8 appearances in the league, we are unbeaten.

That includes a draw against Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle. He is a top defender, and a bit more derby experience cannot hurt his development. I strongly believe he is better than Flanagan, Robinson, Coates and at least as good as Kelly.

He has pace, power, rarely misplaces a pass, is great in the air, good going forward for set pieces, reliable when it comes to fouls and cards, and will undoubtedly become a regular in the near future.

Play him in the backline with Skrtel, Agger and Johnson. Lucas and Henderson are capable of winning the midfield battle with help from Gerrard, and Suarez, Sterling and Sturridge could easily break down their shakey backline. Keep their forwards quiet, and we can win. They have won games this year by simply outscoring the opposition.

YNWA! (Adam)

I'm delighted for the lad. Just one concern about him. He seems to be the last one out on occasions, playing opposition on. Hope our side have noticed and are working on this.

10 Jan 2013 18:13:15
I say it again that Liverpool vs Manchester United is NOT a derby match. {Ed001's Note - yes it is, derby is nothing to do with locale, purely about rivalry, that is why we have the term 'local derby' to refer to ones based on the locale the teams are based in.}

10 Jan 2013 18:13:15
I say it again that Liverpool vs Manchester United is NOT a derby match.

Maybe play 5-3-2?
It gives us extra defensive cover, but we would be able to counter attack or bolster out the midfield if and when needed.
Just my view...

Phooey...

Wisdom, Skrtel, carra, agger, Johnson.
Would be my back 5.

Phooey...

A Derby is simply a race between two sides, people, horses, rivals. As the Ed said, a local derby is what most people think of.

I am amazed that a lot of our supporters on these pages are happy that Chelsea lost yesterday.
These people need to see the bigger picture, Chelsea is the only top 6 team left in the league cup, if anyone else wins it, then 7th place (our best hope for this season) won't qualify for Europe ... No European football of any sort is a big problem for us, it will hurt the club the finances and the players heads will start to turn .. I for one will be supporting Chelsea in the return game and hope they pull it off.

Roy

Honestly, Europa is alright and I like getting to see the younger lads play in it, but it's not much of a draw for players at all nor do we make any appreciable money from it from what I can tell. Maybe enough to pay Gerrard for a couple of months?

Or we could finish 5th, or win either the europa league or fa cup...

a lot of saying fsg are no good for our club there transfers are no good we won't win anything ect but i ask you to stop and take a good look at our beautiful club were not that far away 3 world class players in the summer into a verry young team witch is holding its own in a verry tough league am not saying we are going to win the league next year but we will be a lot closer than the last few with players that are getting more experienced in what they are doing an when they do win it there is a lot of young players that will slot in the team from the Academy, U21s- 19s and U18s -16s and i think we will take the next 10 years makeing up for lost time and i do trust what BR & FSG are trying to do make us great again not for one season but for many to come rember the first is always going to be the hardest but after that scousers will rule the country like we've always done before.

What are your thoughts on Benitez as manager of Chelsea so far? Luckily he is not LFC's manager anymore :)

Heard rumours of Butland from Birmingham, not totally convinced as him as a good keeper yet. Safer bet for me would be Mignolet from Sunderland. Still young, just as affordable & part of the talented Belgian crop of players & there first choice keep.

Is it just me on here who is really excited to see Borini come back into the squad? It'll be like having another new forward. Considering he was injured, he still made some exceptional darting runs, opened up a hell of a lot of space for team mates and looked very, very determined for such a young player. I'm gonna take a guess that the no-named majority will disagree considering he didn't score 15 goals in his first game, just thought I'd see what the rest of your opinions were..

JFT 96

JP

Think you make a great point - I thought he was sharp before his injury, though didn't get the goals he could have - he's had 5 clubs in a short space of time and for someone of his age that must be unsettling. I think that if he can settle with us over the next 6 months or so he could be a very decent player - but that means people being patient !, some chance. Really hope he scores early when he returns and gains confidence - as who would want to defend against a front 3 of Borini, Sturridge and Suarez ? TerryMac Fan Club

Borini he s 21, good movement a bit of pace, a lot of fire in his belly, doubts lack of skill perhaps and is he powerful enough to play as a cf in the epl

time will tell. he has strengths and weaknesses to his game, still good lad to have around the squad, can't really judge him until he s 23 or 24

tom1975

Inzaghi had no skill eather, banged goals for fun.
a italian frend of mine once said inzaghi can not play football his only quality is scoring.
maybe borini will be the same in time

It's just you.

Also, he was an unsettled player in an unsettled team. Hopefully with the rest of the team bedded in a bit, it will help Borinin settle in as a player.

High profile games like Sunday's (that are extra hyped by media) always concern me as far as Suarez is concerned. He's going to get dogs abuse at O/T, both physical and verbal.Just hope he keeps his head. Its hard enough playing 12 men!

I actually think he will be fine. He seems to be the sort of person who likes to prove a point. In a match as hyped as this, I reckon he will be trying his hardest to let his feet do the talking. I would be surprised if they will be able to get more than a wry smile out of him.

Nick

It will only make Suarez play better!

10 Jan 2013 12:09:45
Ed, interested to know your opinion on Henderson, do you rate him? i personal thnk he has the ability to succeed at the club and i think rodgers is maturing him into a useful player, do you think he will stay past the summer(realise its a lonmg way off)I85 {Ed001's Note - I think he has the potential to be a long term first team player for us, in central midfield. He is not the finished article yet, but he does show promise.}

10 Jan 2013 11:28:50
Hi Eds

Im just a concerned fan here, ive been reading different reports on Sahin, wanting to leave, falling out with Gerrard, him not being played .

What is the real story about Sahin ? I was hoping we would really hold on to him, he's a gem.

Secondly, where did Yesil and Assaidi dissapear to ? I thought they were making good progress.

Thanks Eds. {Ed001's Note - Yesil is just not ready and Assaidi was injured and now at the ACON. Sahin just hasn't found his feet yet, he suffered a serious injury and is struggling to get back to his best. Even his running is laboured, it can take years to get back to where you were after an injury like his, if ever.}

Broken nose ed? {Ed001's Note - no, I meant the one he got at Madrid before we got him on loan. That is why we wanted to take him on loan, to see if he would be able to recover from it. There is no doubting he had quality, the question was if he had lost anything while out injured. From what I have seen, he has lost running power, he moves like he is treading in treacle, but that can be fixed with time.}

10 Jan 2013 11:23:07
As much as it is nice to see we maybe buying Thomas Ince, a player with good potential, to me it seems like we are rushing things a little. This is because as much as Ince may add something to the team, he has no Premier league experiance which brings me onto Jordan Ibe.

He is 3 years younger than Ince so there may be questions over physical development but surely playing in League 2 at the age of 15 is enough proof to argue that point! and on top of this we will be paying £6m potentially for Ince as opposed to nothing for Ibe with both having the same freshness and fearlessness that inexperiance brings. If we do not need experiance signings, which seems the case to me as we are tending to look towards future stars, why don't we give Ibe a try?

Dont want to ramble on anymore, but just thinking that if the Ince deal doesnt turn out to be beneficial Ince may surely be adding an extra man between the likes of Ibe and a first team place? My personal opinion is that surely, while in a phase such as we are where we are consolodating on finances and in the playing squad why not keep our purses closed for January at least and try our talent in the academy - we've seen it work with Wisdom Sterling and Suso this year! regularly!

thoughts?

Thanks
SR

There seems to be a lot of people slating PI for his attitude, his demands as regard Tom etc. I don't think people actually listened properly to him when he spoke.PI said in his interview that he would prefer his lad stayed to play regularly rather than join a team where he wouldnt get an opportunity to be involved in the 1st team and get playing time. Seems reasonable. I didn't hear him once say anything about him expecting to be 1st choice to start or picked for every team/squad. Money is not an issue with these guys. He just wants to play football. This was the reason he left in the first place. If he signs and plays well and makes himself undroppable it's a win win for every1 involved. I really don't see where the problem is or what PI has done or said that any other father wouldn't say. It seems to me that people should actually listen to what people say rather than just take bits and pieces of what they say and put their own spin on it. Is that not what we slate 99% of the media for. Beggars belief really, Simonpw

Exactly...He left to play first team football RATHER than stay at a big club and break into the first team by proving himself! We have plenty of young talented players who are more than willing to prove themselves and take their chance when it comes instead of walking away so why should L.F.C take the chance on Paul and Tom Ince wanting a guarantee of first team football? Its walk away time... you don't deserve second chances unless you're willing to prove yourself!

Red Ron

Good post, totally agree.

sean ireland

Thank you Simon. A voice of reason and sanity..

We are Liverpool. Stop believing the tabloid junk. Educate yourselves.

Don't just read headlines, which mostly consist of invented dramas and sensationalistic nonsense, designed in the hope that you will 'click' to read more.

Actually read what the 'articles' say.

Think of Brendan Rodgers statements recently. Did you believe he said we could get 2nd? If so, take a look at yourself and ask yourself just how gullible you are.

You likely thought the Iraq war was a good idea too... all those WMD everywhere! (the kids won't remember that one, sorry)

In a World of tosser bloggers. Perceptions of 'journalistic' standards have never been lower.

Stop taking writers on online sites so seriously. They are not journalists, that some think that they are only makes them more pathetic imo.

They're just people sitting at home regurgitating and embellishing the same plagiarized crap.

Don't get me wrong, there are people who write good blog articles, but 99% of the stuff on the net is trash.

Check out Newsnow Liverpool search if you don't believe me. Loads of rubbish.

There are no sites near as good as this site though for LFC talk though. The folks who come here miss very little.

As an idea for the site, Eds - If you could incorporate a monthly blog from some of your more knowledgeable eds into the site - or have a best posts section or something like that - and you get yourselves registered on Newsnow, it could really increase your traffic.

It would likely require some type of format change (or addition), but would be worth looking into.

Just an idea. Keep up the good work eds.

10 Jan 2013 10:44:31
Personally I think a lot of people are going to be surprised even if sturridge is all we sign.

As we've seen this year and last, suarez is unreal (id say the best in the world) at coming in from outwide. The problem we've had is getting people in the box so he tends to be greedy which more often than not doesnt come off.

IMO there will be a lot of moving about on the front line but we will see Sturridge in the central role more with suarez turning to the supplier.

Its a deadly combination.

Cudge

PS if this happens suarez will pretty much spend the afternoon giving evra a nightmare which should be fun

10 Jan 2013 10:12:06
Been extremely impressed by sturridge so far obviously not much pitch time but the time he's had he's scored, said the right things and has taken time out to greet fans. I mean that much effort outside the football pitch tells me he will do on it. Hoping he will make everyone who judged him before hand eat there words!

i think the LEVEL...of quality has gone down
and i think the club is wasting the windows and opportunities to increase the quality of the squad

bet you would of said that if we were linked with £2m Michu in the summer pete. At least the players Rodgers is getting in are familiar with the english game and pace.

Golfzilla

Person, you have seen very little of borini, Sturridge and Ince so how can you judge.

It's called buying promising young players and building for the future.

Today's £12M youngster is tomorrow's £50M superstar.

I Sturridge is an improvement in quality on Carroll mate Imo -HullRED

So borini has played 5 games and you say he's poor? Reason seems to be lost on some people

Finally somone with an opinion

I think it is because these are the only type of player you can now attract. success would make you a more attractive club but unfortunately you are now a mediocre club along the lines of stoke, sunderland etc. good luck for the future but i don't think much will change soon

dave

Increase the quality?

1) with no CL football?
2) with budget restrictions in place?
3) with wage re-structuring taking place?
4) with transfer guidelines in place (age, style of play, multi posistional)?

how are we supposed to bring messi, ronaldo and co to lfc in our current situation?Sturridge is a quality signing, Borini is a quality signing, Ince will be a quality signing if it happens. I would only question ince on his commitment to LFC as he has already left us once. All of BR's other signings have wanted to play for LFC and all have hunger, drive and passion for the club!!!

I understand what you are saying! But these players are all young and I believe posses the potential to be world class. If they can keep improving and stay on form, who knows what level they could be at! Have faith!!

10 Jan 2013 14:11:05
Give Borini time. He's only played ten games. Sturridge has clearly been a flop, played one scored one, so we can write him off as a failure. What about our summer 2013 signings? They've done nothing yet either.

Ohhhh...thanx 4 supporting pete, imo its not compulsary to support Liverpool you can go to Chelski or Mancs or so on...

holy_red.

As BR has said, we need to create WC players, as we can't afford to buy them and then there is the bit about not being in the CL atm.

Eds. any reason we're not in for Sissoko from Toulouse? 23 yr old free in the summer. That fits the FSG quote. Seems a top player.

We going for any precontract deals. Seems ideal time {Ed001's Note - because we don't really need him.}

ED001 Really? Sahin going, Cole gone. Gerrard aging and Lucas has had lengthy injuries. This guy is good, young and free {Ed001's Note - and not a defensive midfielder, so not going to cover for Lucas. Cole was played wide, so no replacement for him. Gerrard may be aging, but we have a number of players vying to replace him, including a certain Portugese lad who is a much better bet than Sissoko and Suso.}

10 Jan 2013 08:37:39
Not a transfer rumour but more of how we handle transfers. I am a devout Liverpool fan (33 yrs) but can't help think that we need a mix up of our transfer policy. Just read (not sure how true) that Man Utd have put together a package for Wilfred Zaha, who I rate highly.. It seems that they buy some players for now i.e. RVP and keep one eye on the future with players like Zaha and this has been their catalyst over the past 20 years or so. We have some great youngsters in the 1st team already and coming through but our out and out 1st team still isn't up to it. Sturridge is a great start but think we need one or two other established players to go straight in and make a difference and create a blue print for the future. We had this a few years ago under Rafa, the likes of Torres, Alonso, Masch, Hyppia, Hamman etc etc but we never suitably replaced them (Suarez being an exception).. Then we seemed to mess that one up with replacements.. Just my 2p, I am excited for the future though! YNWA.

Totally agree. All well & good buying talented players with one eye on the future, but can do a job in the first team now, but just look at RVP. He'll end up being the difference if (hate to say it) Man Utd win the league. We need a mix of youth & experience.

What do people see in Zaha? So over rated its crazy!

Did you mean opions or onions because thats all Ince is ... an over rated onion not good enough for L.F.C there is enough better quality young players coming through the club all people like you seem to do is support players like Ince and Butland who have come out and said they are not prepared to sit on the bench! Well we have plenty of good young players who are willing to stay at the club and earn or fight for their place so who needs an Ince or a Butland?

Am curious who do you guys think is better ince, zaha or sterling?

Knight

Sterling.. don't buy ince and put the money towards eikden in the summer

Well at this time it would have to be sterling he is the only one with prem experiences with 2 goals and a few assists zaha for me seems cocky and things very highly of himself ince just wants to play and see how good he can be nice to see some kids can look past the money

From stats alone, it would suggest Ince is by far the better player than Zaha, although Zaha's movement and his ability to break play up and make some killer passes is fantastic. On the other side, Sterling is the only one to prove himself at the top level. Hard to compare, I think the end of next season will be a better indicator when it's highly probable they'll all be playing in the Prem. Personally, I'd rather have Ince than Zaha, I think Zaha is a bit too far up his own a*se and will be called out in the Prem. Confidence is fine, arrogance can ruin your game.

JFT 96

JP

Ince at the moment as he has better end product but in future sterling will be heads above the other two

Sterling > Ince >>>>>>> Zaha

Ince is the better around player, but Sterling has the lots of potential. Both Ince and Zaha are 2 years older than Sterling!

At the moment I would say sterling! give it a couple of years and maybe ince & zaha will be better esp zaha! sterling reminds me too much of mark walters

Ince most likely

Ibe

Marshy in goa

Of the 3, I'd say Ince at the moment. I think he's more of a 'forward' tho while I see Sterling and Zaha as 'wingers'. Just my opinion, tho.

I think if we get Ince that will be it! People saying we need a long signing like Jeffren but I can't see it happening especially if Downing stays...Borini close to return and if Ince comes I think we have enough talent to get us to the summer.

DonegalDearg

If were going for a long signing id go for crouch

Jeffren isn't long..... if you want a long signing why not inquire as to the availability of Van-Nistlerooy ? far more letters in his surname

Ed001, In terms of the youth teams, which three players do you think have the most potential? And which 3 players who you rate highly do you reckon will not make it at Liverpool?

An Dun Red {Ed001's Note - most potential would have to be Ibe, Sinclair and McLaughlin. The 3 I rate but don't see making it are Dunn, Adorjan and Sama.}

Agree Ed, but if Texeira can get over his back problem, he with Ibe, are the best I have seen in terms of prospects for a very long time. {Ed001's Note - I wasn't including him on purpose, as I see him and Yesil as reserve team/first team fringes rather than youth team.}

Ed - Would liek to know why you suggest Adjoran will not make it - would be such a shame. It seems that young players tryign to get experience in the 'engine room' of the first team is almost impossible as its more of a risk than a winger or forward.......
REDditch {Ed001's Note - because he seems to have missed his moment, this season should have seen him get a chance for me. I just think he will need to leave to get first team football.}

Why can't you get a cup of tea at Old Trafford?

All the mugs are on the field and all the cups are at Anfield

That might work if you werent talking about such a decorated team as Utd!

If you look at the present situation it is us who are the mugs, we are now like Villa.

Love the way you leave no name lol ita almost as if you dnt believe it!! Our 'mugs' are new and important your 'cups' are old and forgotten about!

Honestly they have more league titles than us bit silly really

Yes I'm sure the mancs are just so offended by this and concerned about our cups. They really see us as rivals, despite being 21 points ahead of us only halfway through the season.

****s sake our club and its supporters need to wake up.

Why are there so many Man you fans on here? Still totally obsessed with Liverpool eh, it would be funny if it wasn't so tragic!

MR EM

The newest cup amongst the mugs and cups lies at Anfield

'Our 'mugs' are new and important' - Can you possibly sound any more ridiculous and self-righteous?

Well, it seems OP has managed to successfully annoy the phantom Mancs that lurk this page.

Pointless joke mate, all the same those united fans coming on here and demeaning our trophies are just as pointless.

It is amazing however, how many of them and others seem to end up on here spouting their sh*te

Nothing going on on your pages then??.

10 Jan 2013 13:30:46
Guys this is a joke, one I found rather funny. No need to get angry!

And Chris, I wouldn't call all your mugs NEW and important - Scholes, Giggs, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Lindergaard, Fletcher, Carrick and RVP are all near or over 30. That's most of your first team!

Jolly Red

10 Jan 2013 14:12:28
Pathetic joke. You could have at least made a joke about their comparative lack of european success to ours.

I'd be embarrassed making that joke to a United fans face to be honest, no league title in 23 years while look what they've won.

You'd have no come back whatsoever

Kelly Red

Liverpool 60 cups and trophies, 3rd in europe behind barca and real

Mancs have 56 cups and trophies, 4th in europe......

come back when you have 4 more trophies and we'll talk......

If you can't respect Utd's achievements, why on earth should you expect anyone to respect ours?

Utd are a massive club - but I wouldn't swap our trophy cabinet for theirs.

I rather think that 2 European Cups beats the hell out one extra League title any day of the week. Only a person would think otherwise.

Even Fergie said only recently that 5 puts us in a higher bracket. Respect the man for that, he appreciates the history of the game, whereas most people here can't remember past our last game.

BJH YNWA

We haven't won a League Title in 23 years while they've won 12 and are currently 21 points ahead of us.

Seriously, what a stupid and embarrassing joke to make. Yeah would of been good at the start of the 90's alright.

I don't know who's worse, the original poster or LFC fans trying to taunt United fans by claiming we won the Carling f***ing Cup last year

Some of these so called LFC fans need to wake up and stop being embarrassing for the rest of us

what do the eds and fans think about Pilckington of norwich, a better left winger than downing, he's young and he's english and scores more than downing, has a bad hair cut though

He's not English. He's Irish.

Your having a laugh ay ya chap.

If there is one position that doesn't need filling it's left wing. Downing barely plays there now, he's usually on the right or at left back. But we have Sterling, Assaidi, Ibe and most probably Ince coming in, so Pilkington's a no go.

This Michu is a revelation I bet every scout is scouring all corners of the globe to unearth such a player. Do scouts work for a specific club or are the freelancers? ShuMan {Ed002's Note - It varies.}

But if Liverpool or any of the the other well known clubs had tried to buy him last summer he would have cost way over £12m. Fact.

Credit where it's due, Michu was mentioned quite a few times on these very boards well before he signed for Swansea.

I recall one specific poster mentioning his name as a possible to ourselves, at a time when the board was being swamped by the usual wish list of unrealistic names and remarking that this had the ring of truth. If I recall correctly, one of the eds thought it unlikely because he had only recently moved clubs in Spain.

On another note, was it Laudrup or his brother, who was reported to be advising our owners over the appointment of the new manager in the summer?

Ginger Rodgers {Ed001's Note - it was Laudrup who had an input.}

Liverpool scouting department probably still hasnt heard of michu.

10 Jan 2013 12:35:16
Ayre isn't a great negotiater, but nobody would have paid £12m for a player with a £2m buyout clause in his contract. Swansea got him for the same price everyone else could've. Maybe you should check your 'Facts'...

Seems that they are a little agitated on the Chelsea pages after losing to Swansea. Most the vitriol is aimed at Torres as apparently he put in minimal effort and sulked a lot - I thought their scouts could have picked up that was how he played for the last year at Liverpool so they must have known what they were getting.
Sad to see the crowd there booed Rafa before the game even began though - a decent bloke who could be very successful if he is given some backing in the transfer market and support from the quick-fix plastics.

cozinoz

More solid work from Agenrs Benitez and Torre

10 Jan 2013 10:16:37
U're the real plastic and biased on here. Torres is the sole reason our team is in a mess right now. He's why Ancelotti, AVB, RDM all got sacked b'coz he's lost it and he doesn't care. He's the reason the Club let Drogba go so he can be d 'main man'; even Sturridge who's by far the better, hungrier and more skilful player didn't get a chance bcos of this mug...and Lukaku on loan? The whole team has been changed bcos of Torres, yet he wouldn't hurt a defender, be in the right places or care for the ball. On Rafa, there are no sentiments in football, why bench an in-form striker just to play that waste of space who only cares abt his wages? Yet true Chelsea fans have been supportive until last night...how long shd it continue. And we're talking abt a 50m pounds player! I bet u'll not have this patience with Sturridge if he doesn't do well for just 3 games.

michu, michu michu only 2 m. and 12 m for d.s. what the hell

He was a pretty average player until last season. But the gamble has paid off. Hats off to Laudrup

cozinoz

Whats wrong with you lot? Always got MOTD Fever as aptly put by Eds...Now its Michu Bandwagon everyone wants to ride...Fine that bloke is scoring goals and costed peanuts but why can't we quit comparing apples with oranges...Gaffer knows what he wants and he got his guy..now what's the point in getting into financial comparisons..Give DS a good run in PL with us..support him and then slack him if he is not contributing enough....

Again the emphasis is on CONTRIBUTION because forwards are always rated by how many goals are scored but there are unsung heroes as well..the ones who work hard to drag defences their way, create spaces for others to score, provide assists etc...People have been moaning about Borini's purchase but in 4-5 matches he played whilst being injured he made some really fantastic runs..got into good positions and was unlucky not to have atleast 3-4 goals in his bag....

But then who am I to know..Isnt it!

Indian with Red Heart

People need to stop using Michu's price to bash LFC. His old club was in a financial crisis and the accountants had taken over the decision making and sold him to the first offer with no regard for actual value. He was worth far more than 2 million last year but Swansea lucked out. Sturridge will score plenty of goals for LFC and prove to be good value for the money. He's also 4 years younger than Michu and has better pace.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, look it up in the dictionary mate.. Sturridge will be a better player once he settles and plays regularly!
JJ

Laudrup took a gamble on michu and its payed off, he could so easily have been a failure, there was nothing to suggest he would be a instant success, he had scored goals for vallecano but hadn't really grabbed the attention on bigger clubs. It's just one of those things sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, with Sturridge at least we know exactly what we are getting, and if Brendan thinks he can improve on that then that's fine.

Yes mitchu 2million to Swansea but when the likes of Liverpool etc come calling the price is put up by 5-10 million.

10 Jan 2013 09:10:03
becoz..sturridge..is young..fast...skil..and can also sit in the bench..
michhu is a revelation for me...suerly not a one season wonder...
this guy will rock the EPL by storm...
absolute delight to watch him play..
simple..and looks excellent..
I wish liverpool would hae ever bought a player like him..

Jeez Sturridge has played half a game, scored and ya slagging him off already, I give up!

Dav

Fair enough Michu was a great buy but why dig Daniel Sturridge?

What's he done but play one 50 minutes and has one goal already. That 12 million could be a bargain if you support the player instead of taking a cheap shot.

Sturridge will be a better player........dont you realise that within two years he will be sulking and angling for a move. Look at the comments from Rodgers and Gerrard..."last chance.....blah blah" the guy has major attitude problems.

Actually is a good fit for your club.

Bazza

I'm sure you were all saying the same about papa cisse last season
JJ

Some of our supporters are a disgrace. Sturridge has played 50 minutes, scored a goal within 7 minutes and has publicly said how pleased and proud he is to play for us. If you don't like it and are not prepared to give the lad a chance **** off and support someone else.

Regarding tom ince. Obviously i would be happy if he signs, although I believe that if the price is high we would have been a little wasteful as a club

That's because I really think Jordan Ibe can have just as much impact as Sterling and has similar PREMIER LEAGUE experiance as Thomas Ince.

Not wanting to go into detail because as long as Ibe gets his chance and Ince does not halt the development of some up and coming youngsters I am happy

09 Jan 2013 23:43:48
You have to ask yourself does Ince improve what we already have? To be honest I think Ince is a mistake, he will only ever be a squad player never a first name on the team sheet.

I would much more prefer BR to put the money towards a top notch midfielder the likes of Erikson in the summer, someone who would be an automatic first team player in the mould of Stevie.G's replacement.

With the likes of Ibe and Sinclair coming through the ranks I feel there's no room for Ince.

Just my opinion.

Controversial red.

Nothing wrong with a bit of competition though - if Ibe and Sinclair are good enough, they will make the first eleven regardless of who signs. Simple. I'd rather a few classy players fighting for a spot in the team than debating whether to play Charlie Adam or Spearing in the middle (sorry Jay).

cozinoz {Ed001's Note - not true though, players won't come through if a manager signs someone for their position. They will play the player they bought first. Youngsters only get their chance through injuries or other gaps in the squad. It has always been that way.}

Have you seen the lad playing recently? If you do, you will change your opinion. He is a very exciting prospect who should never have left if BR had been the Manager then.

I've bin watching ince last few games he's good but seems lazy doesnt close down atall just walks around when he doesn't have the ball... He looks very good with the ball mind you! An his pace is overrated he's not as quick as sterling or downing

Not convinced we can lure eriksen in summer, seems to have his heart set on spain

tom1975

OP -

I respect your view mate, but I feel there is plenty of room for Ince and still more room (and time) for the likes of Ibe and Sinclair to break through.

Ince will replace Downing imo. I actually rate Ince highly - I have posted these views here before and was disappointed when he left initially as I felt he could be quality some day (I respect that he left to play regularly too - most of the bitterness towards him is because of who his father is).

Your post made me ponder our future and the following are just some thoughts on the squad. (turned out to be rather a long post - sorry)

Rodgers is planning years ahead. I like his style.

Look at our current crop of youngsters and think how good they'll be in 2-3 years (if they work hard), we have lots of exciting young talent.

GK - Gulacsi, Ward
LB's - Robinson, Smith, O'Hanlon
RB - Flanagan, Kelly, Wisdom, Mc Laughlin
CD - Wilson, Coates
CM/AM - Allen, Shelvey, Suso, Hendo, Teixeira
Wide Forwards - Sterling, Sinclair, Ibe
CF - Borini, Sturridge, Morgan

Add this lot to our established more experienced stars, the likes of Agger, Skrtel and Suarez (who have all signed new contracts in the last 6 months) and Lucas, Johnson, Enrique, Gerrard (who is returning to form since Lucas' return), Reina (looking more like his former self recently) and Assaidi (who will make in impact - not his fault he's injured). Even Brad Jones has won a place in my heart, he's been a great backup to Pepe and thoroughly deserves his new deal.

The future looks bright. This squad can become a real force given time to grow.

Splashing silly money looking for quick fixes isn't always the best idea.

Look at Barca with the likes of Ibra and Sanchez (and debateably, Villa too)- great players, but ultimately, youth players ended up taking their place in the side.

Very glad to see the youths and reserves playing the same system as the 1st team. This has been lacking at LFC before Rodgers. As with Barca, our future stars can be grown in-club, and know the system, style and be settled in the team and in Liverpool before they make their debut - and without the expectations that (for example) a £35m price tag can bring.

Rodgers is a man with a plan. Forward planning. What a radical idea. I like it.

People on this site are very reactionary. They need to take the longer-term view.

I always maintained we would be in the lower reaches of the league after a few months of this season (due to our fixtures, new manager/players etc) and that we would then rise up the table, and I also stated that top 4 was possibly attainable given that Arsenal and Spurs would drop a lot of points.

I'd expect a minimum of 8th - and given the improvement of our squad, reduced wage-bill, good players signed up and average age reduced - that would be good work. Any higher would be a bonus.

I expect to improve on our finish next year, then improve again the next.....

I'm in it for the long haul.

There's only one Brendan Rodgers!
Lets hope we 'Rodger' Utd on Sunday.

BJH YNWA

At this point in time, Ince is an improvement on what we have. Stats don't lie, at this point of the season he has more of and end product than Sterling has shown so far.

BrisbaneLFC

Brisbane I understand what your saying but you can't really compare stats when ince is playing against easier opposition.
Sparks

Have to completely agree I'd prefer to see Rodgers save up for a proper signing or two in the summer, rather than trying to placate some quick-fix fans with a mistake (though Ince may be someone he really wants, we don't know). Glad more fans are seeing this.

Do ye know anything about Leo Baptistao? Apparently according to the Mail us, United, QPR and Wigan had him watched last Monday night against Getafe. He plays up front for Rayo Vallecano and has taken up Michu's position in the team. Only 20 years of age. He could really fit the bill. Might be one to watch.

See on the site that people are saying we need a number 10 type player, some one like mata, or silva to play ahead of our 2 deeper midfielders (gerrard + lucas?)

Just wondering to myself if suarez could do it with sturridge ahead of him? Or would we lack cover in midfield then and concede more goals?

Wud be interested to hear the eds and others thoughts..

jak

Suarez on the edge of the box with two choices: a slide rule pass to his team mate in a good scoring position, or nutmeg both the centre backs and chip the keeper?
Just my opinion, but I think we'd be better off getting a Mata/Silva style player to feed Luis' goal-hunger personally

cozinoz

Suarez could easily fill in the #10 role. He was never an out and out striker at Ajax, and he still scored a lot of goals. Seeing that Rodgers likes player permutations and position changes mid-game, I think that's what he had in mind when he bought Sturridge. Play Suarez at #10, and play either Sterling & Sturridge or Sturridge & Borini up front. I don't think playing Suarez at #10 would weaken the midfield given his work rate. A midfield of Lucas, Henderson/Shelvey, Gerrard & Suarez should be tried out. ra1969

Hi Macca, thanks for all the great feedback. I have two questions if you can answer them.

1) Thomas ince. Do you feel he will bring us the necessary depth for the 2nd half of the season or wouldn't it be wiser to hold out and scout till the next window?

2) is the rumour of enzo Fernandez coming to liverpool on a trial true? Could be exciting prospect for the future.

He will probably bring his more arrogant attitude father along with him..and will dictate BR to play him week in and week out..
Pathetic..

If you had a son who was a professional footballer would you not want the best for him? he's worried that if he moves now it will hault young Inces development as he will not play week in week out. Look at how he has progressed at Blackpool whilst playing regularly, he is now on the radar of alot of well established clubs. Hardly arrogance, more a fatherley instinct!

Hey eds. I know clubs doesn's sign players JUST because they support the club, which is understandable of course. But I know Arda Turan and Will Hughes (who happens to be a die hard fan), supports us. It would be great to sign these quality players because 1. they are quality 2. because the fact that they support us, shows that they will fight their arses off for the club. Supporters would give 10 % more for the team, so maybe it would be a great idea to have players who are supporters.

Just been reading about rangers being opposed to changed to the proposed league restructure up in Scotland and how they are seriously considering coming into the English league.
However uefa oppose any teams crossing boarders and the English FA are apparently opposed as well.
