To be fair Steph, we play United this weekend so the team they field tonight is intriguing with regards to how much energy they will have for the game against us. I assume that is what hjikle is getting at anyway.

10 Jan 2017 20:57:19
And your point is there at home and play a day before us and they don't have to play away

10 Jan 2017 21:29:36
Rojo, Carrick, Martial and Ibra

10 Jan 2017 21:39:09
I know MK! The post was more for fun rather than critique. However, I believe it would be best if both players, staff and fans, myself included, concentrate on our own game and the next one, rather than concern ourselves with what other teams do, or fans or pundits say. So far this season i believe for the most part we were the better team and only have ourselves to blame for any dropped points, so if we concentrate on our own game, i believe we have a really good chance of achieving our goals

10 Jan 2017 22:13:38
Good one, Steph1. I`ve never cared what other teams do cos it should never dictate how you prepare. Focus on ourselves, respect the opponent, NEVER fear them and go out there believing in your strategy and preparation and let the chips fall where they may. Bottom line is there should be no regrets, after the game.

10 Jan 2017 23:55:37
For all the discussion about how we are preparing for the major game happening on the weekend, it is worth at least knowing what the opposition are doing to prepare. Pretty simple really.

And I utterly reject the notion that what our opponents do shouldn't change what we do. Champions alter their tactics to best block the strengths and target the weaknesses of their opposition.

11 Jan 2017 01:18:15
Hijkle, no one is saying that. Checking up on the opponent is all part of the preparation process. What you can`t do is to dwell on what their doing too much cos it takes away the focus from your own preparation, Champions or not.

11 Jan 2017 10:48:54
Not as if us discussing United will have any impact, agreed if Klopp came out in the presser talking about their line up fair enough, but us as fans can discuss it knowing our discussions will not affect the team in any way.

11 Jan 2017 13:34:05
Agreed, Welsh.

10 Jan 2017 18:33:05
Evening Eds, is there any mileage in talk of Subotic from Dortmund again, or just an old story?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - If you are a Middlesbrough supporter then yes. They missed out on their first choice and have returned to Subotic.}

Thank you sir

U23s report:
They won 4-1 against Barnet in a friendly today. Sakho didn't play, neither did Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn, Ovie Ejaria, Joe Gomez and Sheyi Ojo. I'm not sure if this was to keep them fresh for the next game (Man United) or whether they will be playing a part against Southampton tomorrow evening. Probably a combination of the two reasons.
Anyway, Brooks Lennon scored a brace, Harry Wilson scored one and Jack Dunn scored the other.
Lennon is one who I believe has gone under the radar this season and he has put in lots of good quality, consistent performances. Nice to see Jack Dunn finding his feet again and great to see Wilson keeping up his good form. I'm very disappointed that he didn't get a shot against Plymouth on the weekend but I suppose he is not seen as ready for the first team just yet.
Next up is Man United on the 16th for the U23s and this is a huge game. This one is a home game for us so I urge people to get out and support our future in a big game for them. The quality of their games are always of a high standard it seems as well.

No problem Higgins, I'm just looking forward to the return of Premier League 2

11 Jan 2017 12:34:07
What was this game in aid of? I didn't even recognise the Barnet squad - was it the EFL Trophy or something?

10 Jan 2017 17:34:51

11 Jan 2017 13:33:14
Lol nice one dom. I was in the Liverpool supporters club in the sloans. Then was in the one in biddys for a few years. I've been on here for years myself when it was football rumours. Small world alright.

11 Jan 2017 14:07:44
Was over a few times with the fellas from biddy's and the sloans. Sean mcbride and all.

10 Jan 2017 13:04:04
Hi guys. Any updates on squad injuries.
Are Henderson and matip fit for man United match? Coutinho in training. what about lovren. You reckon we'll have a fully fit 1st team for Sunday?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There has been nothing from the club on injuries yet this week - perhaps later today.}

10 Jan 2017 15:35:53
Henderson? not sure but may be fit. Matip is back in training as of yesterday so more than likely will start vs Utd, at least I hope he does.

10 Jan 2017 11:21:09
Hi all, I am trying to get tickets so that my 6 year old lad can watch the Plymouth away game. He cried his eyes out last night because I won't let him have 2 days off school to come to the Southampton game with me so I'm trying to get tickets for the Plymouth game to make up for it. I am a light member on the LFC site but not sure that would allow me to get tickets? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Not really a fan of the january window. inflated prices for average players at best. we have a strong squad when fit so personally i think we should wait until the summer for new signings. good luck rest of this window eds i think you will need it.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - cheers Dr.c.}

10 Jan 2017 15:38:17
klopp has already said that players who can improve you are hardly available in Jan except if you want to ay stupid money for them like we tried to do with Tex last Jan and 38m 9we offered 34m) was too much and had to pull out of the deal. I don`t like it either so like you Clippers, wait till the summer.

10 Jan 2017 18:55:56
Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho.

10 Jan 2017 10:00:28
Despite all the daily rumours about who we are going to sign this month, I doubt we will bring anyone in.

It is already the 10th January, and IF we did bring a player or players in what would be the point?

By the time any deal (s) are done we would be back to a full compliment anyway. Mane will be back first week in Feb at the latest, and Matip, Coutinho and Henderson will be back from injury before then.

So any business done would not be for short term cover, but for long term squad strengthening.

I think we will lose tomorrow night but will still progress to the final, and unfortunately, I think we will also get beat at the weekend.

January was always looking like a tough month, particularly with the AFCON. The run of injuries only makes things worse.

We could have Coutinho back, but he will need 3/ 4 games to get up to full match fitness.

10 Jan 2017 10:23:24
Loosing against UTD would be a joke after mocking them and their teams all last 6 months. We should be smashing UTD off their park.

10 Jan 2017 10:23:32
Wow what a gloomy negative post. may as well put the kids out next 2 games and nobody bother watching as we're only going to lose! I wonder what Ron would have to say to you in this!

10 Jan 2017 10:30:22
I agree that we will only strengthen for long term, as its madness to sign anyone to cover short term injuries or absenteeism barring a glut of injuries in one particular area, as we saw with the loan of Caulker last year. I feel way too much is made of the AFCON though. We lose one player and everybody freaks out. Had we lost Matip as well I feel we'd struggle more but hopefully he might be back to pop Ibra in his pocket on Sunday. Couts at 70% is better than most in the league and I think his link up with Firmino will run rings round Uniteds back line. Hopefully it'll be Sturridge who joins them up front as he's the most clinical finisher at the club by far. We'll get a draw at Soton and beat them at home once we've spanked the Mancs!

10 Jan 2017 11:38:21
Someone give the original poster a hug

10 Jan 2017 14:50:55
Saints are having a horrible time right now, at least that's the impression I get off my friend who's a seasons ticket holder at St. Mary's.

United aren't as good as people think, they're unbeaten in what, 16 games is it? But who have they really played? Spurs and Arsenal, who usually lose to United anyway so I'm not convinced personally.

I think we'll win our next few games.

10 Jan 2017 16:21:50
Steady there Harry and let`s not start getting arrogant about "smashing them off their park" cos our recent record there does not bode for such an outcome. Let`s just keep calm and hope we win the game cos we both know it will be extremely difficult to win there. And if we don`t, can I count on you to not be the voice of reason and of calm?

As for the OP KBL, show some positivity cos right now, negativity is not what needs to be projected as this is a critical time in our already exciting season. Keep the faith and all will be fine.

10 Jan 2017 17:31:12
That is not what you said earlier when they came to Anfield Hamilton. You literally mocked their whole team including their manager seemed extremely confident of 3 points at OT. If we don't win then we drop out from top 4 and it would be a race against odds. But then I know you are happy to finish anywhere above 8th place. I AM NOT!

10 Jan 2017 17:31:58
Hamilton

No excitement if you are not finishing inside top 3.

10 Jan 2017 18:21:55
Man Utd are (unfortunately) through their worst Harry so although I'd love nothing more, I can't see us "smashing them off the park" although I'm confident of us coming away with 3 points! That joke of a team we beat comfortably over 2 legs aren't the same team we play Sunday!

10 Jan 2017 18:34:52
Harry - they are not the same team as they were early this season, they have developed a lot and are on a decent run of form (based on poor ref choices but still) . They are at home and strong. I think and hope we can win but it won't be easy by any measure

10 Jan 2017 18:35:17
We need to turn KBL into a believer.

Looks like it worked for Sweet Chin

10 Jan 2017 19:47:05
I don't know what you've done to Harry, Ron. Last week he was super negative this week he's over confident! KBL needs the same treatment

10 Jan 2017 19:52:21
I'll work on him WelshRed 😉

10 Jan 2017 20:53:28
Oh give over Harry, with your constant inability to actually respond to contents made in comments cos none of what you posted is in my comments.

I did mock their players and especially their manager for NOT having the guts to come out and play us toe to toe and that was nothing but banter. You in fact, were the one hailing them for their "performance" or lack thereof and used that to slate us and Klopp for not being able to break them down. And we can beat them BUT it won`t be easy. Now, that I do remember so stop rewriting history.

"No excitement w/ o being inside the top 3". Nonsense. Says the guy whose been criticizing others for not aiming for the title. The hypocrisy is deafening, really. fact still remains that our record at OT is poor and they have improved since that fist game so for you to come up here and start mouthing off that we`ll "smash them" is arrogant and misinformed but I can tell that if we don`t, you`ll be here hailing Mou and slating Klopp cos well, it`s what you do.

10 Jan 2017 21:18:02
Lol Hamilton is already lining up excuses in case the result go against us. Now take it from me Hamilton. We are 4 days to the match and a match against Southampton still to play. We ll beat them and beat them convincingly. And this is not my over confidence but pure ARROGANCE! Coz I don't bite EXCUSES!

10 Jan 2017 22:16:26
You clearly have no clue what the word "excuse" means. So sad.

10 Jan 2017 22:50:14
Don't stop now lads. I've just opened my popcorn 🍿 😁

{Ed025's Note - love it twinkletoes..

10 Jan 2017 23:05:22
Well guys I don't think my original post was in any way gloomy.

All our injured players are on the way back which is positive. This means we don't need to bring in anyone else, unless they will improve the squad and are available at the right price.

I stated I expect us to get to the EFL final - also positive.

As far as Utd are concerned, our PL record at OT is quite dismal, and we will have senior players missing or at best just coming back into the team without being fully match fit. They are strong right now and I feel probably a bit stronge we are.

There is another reason I have made such comments, and I will enlighten you after the Utd game.

Nevertheless, I'm definitely up for a hug!

11 Jan 2017 01:22:25
We`ll be waiting for it, KBL.

11 Jan 2017 06:58:56
If the players coming back aren't fully fit they shouldn't play so Sunday it should be 11 fit players against 11 fit players. The game starts equal so we are not disadvantaged at the first whistle. One thing i know. this is one of the biggest league games between the 2 sides in recent times! We win, we open that gap back up. They win, they're right back in it. A win at OT will send confidence throughout this squad at a very important stage of the season!

10 Jan 2017 09:09:02
Klopp says no amount of money will force him to sell Coutinho despite knowing that Barcelona will not back off.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

10 Jan 2017 09:22:52
the problem is, if he wants out there's no point in keeping him. I like everybody else wants him to stay, of course we do, but should Barcelona really come in for him with a decent bid he's going to want to go there, its a matter of time imo, we will lose him in summer.

10 Jan 2017 09:56:28
Hes not going to come out and say well barcalona are going to come in and possibly bid for him so get used to the fact he might leave is he

10 Jan 2017 10:07:31
Liverpoolfc 16

And what are you going to do with that money?

10 Jan 2017 11:10:23
Harry, Liverpoolfc16 didn't say he wants Coutinho to leave. Maybe you just imagined it?

10 Jan 2017 16:32:28
Everyone getting hysterical over Couts going to Barcelona or not. First off, the boy has never said he wanted out nor has he ever indicated nor implied it. Also, Barcelona have said nothing about it except via their players (who are his team mates with Brazil) or ex players like Ronaldinho. In fact, do people even realize the financial mess Barcelona is in right now? The Ed`s have said repeatedly that they would like to sell some of their top earners so they can revamp their squad BUT after giving stupid wages to MSN on their new contracts, where are they going to get the huge wads of money from to fund a HUGE transfer operation like Couts`? Or do people think that FSG and Klopp are just going to say, "Well, he wants to go so we`ll take whatever they give". He will ONLY leave on our terms and if he does, we will make this VERY painful for them and will stick them for every penny they have and won`t budge on the huge fee he will command. Not sure Barcelona is as desperate enough to get into all that for a player Like Couts, who won`t even start ahead of Neymar on the left, his preferred position (his words not mine) . And not sure if Couts (a very shy, thoughtful and respectful lad) wants to drag himself, his club and his family through all that stuff in the news and in the tabloids. moral of the story? Ain`t going to happen or at least, not yet.

{Ed002's Note - The club are aware of what Coutinho told three international team mates last season and are also aware that PSG, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have continued to have Coutinho watched. I understand that PSG will make an offer and that the player has been made aware of this and has spoken to a couple of players about PSG. Right now I would expect him to stay until the summer and then consider his options - but PSG may look for a January deal. I think offers in January from elsewhere are unlikely (as of this time). He is also aware of interest from Barcelona and one of the three he has spoken with is a Barcelona player. At the end of October his representative visited Barcelona to make clear that the player is open to a move there during 2017 and this re-enforces the recent comment from an international colleague that Coutinho has got Neymar to speak to Barcelona about him as well. Liverpool will try to avoid selling.}

10 Jan 2017 18:45:21
Ed002 - surely the chances of PSG making a move without much else changing in their squad is now fairly small following the purchase of Draxler?

{Ed002's Note - They have a number of players that they will be moving on.}

10 Jan 2017 18:45:21
Ed002 - surely the chances of PSG making a move without much else changing in their squad is now fairly small following the purchase of Draxler?

{Ed002's Note - PSG have a number of players that they are looking to move on - now or in the summer.}

10 Jan 2017 20:56:13
Thanks for the info, Ed. I do remember you saying something like this in the past. I just feel that they may not be able to meet the asking price we will want due to their financial issues as they are except they improve on that front. Are they that desperate for him, Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Players are transient and come and go. Barcelona are looking to refresh and rebuild and will be making changes. They like Coutinho as I have explained.}
