Favourite Liverpool goal this season?

Gotta be Suarez' 3rd vs Norwich for me, the first was insane, but the 3rd is more typical of his style. Unstoppable at times.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can we count Shelvey's at Anfield? Sturridge's goals against Villa and West Brom stand out as well. To be honest, there could be a 'Suarez goal of the season' contest, there would easily be enough to fill the ranks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge second v Everton I must admit from a enjoyment point of view.

Agree0 Disagree0

So many to choose from. I love Sturridge's goal against Stoke. Coming back onto the field after going off, a header, chest down, hit it home. Brilliant.

Also, Flanagan. That was nifty.

Agree0 Disagree0

Flannagan v Spurs for me. Just for the emotion after he scored.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge's goal at our 4-1 win vs. West Brom at Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez's 3rd versus Norwich.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to be Flanno's or Surez third against Norwich. Or as an outsider Gerrards header v the Bitters.

Agree0 Disagree0

Studge against united just for the pure excitement and the fact nobody new how bad united would be at that point, quality wise Suarez third against Norwich.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez's 3rd v United. oh wait that's for this time next week!

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to say flannos goal was so happy for the lad

Suarez free kick at Goodison!

Agree0 Disagree0

My personal favourite was Sturridge against Villa at the start of the season! Sublime stuff from Studge that, we've scored some absolute crackers though so spoilt for choice!

Eds are we looking to pick up any players on Bosmans this summer? If so who do you think we will be looking at?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

10 Mar 2014 18:51:50
Hi eds
I asked a while back about full backs and was told was mainly speculation and would be more clear in month or so, is there any confirmed interest in any full backs apart from Bertrand.
Also have you heard anything about any possibly departures in the summer as feel our return loanees and possible sales will be biggest influence on our transfer policy
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club will probably look toward a left back and I am told interest in Ryan Bertrand remains. I would expect they will look at other options as well. I don't see right back as being a priority and doubt any effort will be expended there. If the club want a centre back then several need to leave first - see an earlier post. I think folks like Coady and a couple of the loanees will move on. Much will depend on people leaving, particularly if there is going to be any significant spending. Suarez has again put the club in a difficult position over Juventus with his representatives having spoken to them a short while back and his latest statements.}

Is he seriously still after a move? ffs we are second in the table, he is on 200k a week and he still isn't happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's been so sad since ruth left

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2014 22:33:43
I can't see why we would refuse to sell him last season and then sell this season. Fair enough if we get 5th but that's not looking too likely.
The only reason he would leave this summer rather than last would be the fear of his contact running down, but as he signed a new contract this is moot.
Would be strange to let him go now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez was asked if he would consider playing in Italy one day and replied with it would be good for him to play in Italy one day etc. He then went on to say how he is happy with Liverpool and is looking forward to playing Champions League with Liverpool next season.

I don't think there is anything to worry about. We all know he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but I can't see him leaving in the summer when his dream has always to play Champions League with Liverpool. For 3 years he has been trying to help Liverpool qualify for CL. He is not going to do that and then move on.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

A lot of people will probably disagree here, and before I start, I am not saying we should sell Suarez, but I don't think it would be the end of the world if he left. I absolutely love watching him play, and in my opinion, there isn't a better striker out there at the moment. However, if we get top 3, we would be able to demand a ridiculous amount for him (if he stays clear of controversy for the remainder of the season) and that money can go towards a decent lb, lw and cm. At the end of the day, Sturridge has been incredible, we play some of our best stuff with one man up top, and they both want to play there. It could work in our favour if we sold him, but similarly, it would benefit us to keep him. It's a win win situation in my opinion (but I am often proven wrong ha).

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers eds
Do you know anything about the future of Kelly? Really excited about his potential when he was in the team at right back, do you have any idea if the club feel he still has a good chance of making the grade there, or will he more likely be moved inside or possibly let go?
Do the latest comments by Suarez and his agents make it a strong possibility he could leave?
Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I would imagine the club will be looking to hold on to Kelly.}

10 Mar 2014 18:49:50
Hey Eds, was just wondering imo Mignolet hasn't really been a solid as he probably was supposed to be. So is there any interest from us in a GK this summer? If so, any names?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

10 Mar 2014 15:07:47
Hi Eds001. I know you loved the way we played under Roy Evans but would you say that the brand of football being played under Rogers now is more complete? I have been watching my beloved reds play since 1978 (Kenny chip at Wembley versus FC Bruges and all that) and have seen some magical football in that period under the guidance of Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish, Evans, Benitez, but for the first time since King Kenny first took over at 34 years of age it seems we can outscore the opposition home and away. It's a testament to Brendans work because arguably the Premiership is a lot tougher than the old Division 1 was? Also please can you fill me in on the circumstances of Roy Hodgsons appointment at Liverpool? I was away backpacking at the time and was astounded when he got the job was he the first choice or did he have compromising pics of the tumours and Cecil the clown? Any feedback would be appreciated buddy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - more complete? No, less so if anything. We have better players overall now, plus the manager has found a way of playing that is more effective, but not more complete. It is also arguable as to which was tougher, in my opinion the old Div 1 was much more competitive, due to money not being so concentrated in the hands of so few clubs. Any club could compete, you couldn't easily pick the top 6 out before the start of the season, whereas now you are almost certain to be able to name 5 of the 6 that will be in there. Then it was one or two, with 4 or 5 you might guess. It must be pointed out, we never tried to just outscore the opposition back in the 80s and before. It was all about dominating the ball, pass and move until you wore down the opponent and scored. That is why we so often used to win games at the end, not through a higher level of fitness, but a higher level of possession, tiring out the opponent who was chasing shadows.

As for Hodgson, he was just available, English and about all there was at the time. There were no outstanding candidates, no money to go and grab the best of the best, so it was a case of get the best available, who would accept the budgetary restrictions and was English to make it more palatable to the fans. He was always a 'he will have to do' candidate, rather than a 'he is the one we want' candidate.}

HEY EDDS. With this fifa fairplay do we really stand a chance of loosing out on champions leaguue football next season? please respond i'm confused with all the info in the media. thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nobody knows what sanctions will be handed out in the end but they are discussing matters right now. I don't see anyway that Liverpool will be kept from the Champions League should they qualify.}

Surely ffp will never come into action ed. Specially if there is talk of this break away league from the big teams. FIFA would be shooting themselves in the foot?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with FIFA but it is a significant concern of UEFA and the major issue they have right now surrounds the sponsorship of PSG and Manchester City. Putting aside any cap applied to sponsorship they are well aware that the clubs have been pushed up the "rich list" artificially and that could be a major problem in the future. They are also aware that there is another club who have made it clear that they would fight any sanctions imposed in court. They are also aware of the discussions that have taken place at the end of each August between clubs who might want to take all of the big money and breakaway.}

Would Liverpool be part of that league ED? Biggest club in the world and all that, would be difficult to include us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not been involved in any of the discussions.}

10 Mar 2014 17:43:53
It's definitely a fine line to walk down for UEFA- get too aggressive and hasten the inevitable, don't get aggressive enough and FFP will be disregarded.

That said, do you see a break away league as inevitable, Ed02? For me, it just seems a matter of time as the financial implications are massive and in the end money always talks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It'll happen at some point. Perhaps in 10 years.}

I see it never happening in my opinion. There will always be too many loop holes. For example, if you have one of these billionaire owners, they could theoretically be "income"
Mansour or whatever the city's owners name is, could simply do a deal to rename the stadium, then put whatever he wanted in, say, 200 million pound, then that would be classed as sponsorship money and be spent on players

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, that is simply not the case.}

Ofc it is ed. if an owner has many companys he can just sponsor the club then it wouldn't go around the FFP rules

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Read this, it might save Ed002 having to explain things over and over again:

This is somewhat of a hypothetical question. You eds seem to be closer to the pulse of premier league football but really this is a question that anyone can have an opinion or shed some light upon.
I was wondering -bout yer man Salah (that just signed for Chelsea and in the process rejected us). What do you think might be going thru his head now that the dust has settled? - I mean he rejected us for a cupla quid more; probably knowing full well that he would be a bench warmer at Stamford Bridge. But also knowing full well that Liverpool wanted him as a starter. The most impressive team in the premier league wanted him to do what he does best - play football. Yet he chooses a cupla quid more to waste the one thing God placed him on this earth to do better than all other things. I know he's not the first and he won't be the last to make this choice. But how the feck does a human being justify that with his conscience?!? It's not as if we weren't going to make him a millionaire or anything. Wtf goes through these fellas brains?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I think you have entirely misread the situation. He did not "reject" Liverpool at all. The simple summary is that (a) Liverpool offered an embarrassingly low amount of money - so low that negotiation was not even going to be possible. (b) His club and the player were upset at something the Liverpool manager had to say about the situation. (c) The player had made it clear the clubs he wanted to join. (d) One of those clubs made an acceptable offer to the club and player such that the move was agreed. (e) You will see much more of him next season once he has settled in. (f) He will be a valuable squad member at Chelsea who have been playing far more games than Liverpool in recent years.

So Liverpool was not a viable option even if he did want to make the move and the manager had recognised it was a time to listen and not talk.}

10 Mar 2014 16:23:00
LFC never made an acceptable offer to his club and the player had no problems with joining Chelsea. Therefor, Salah never rejected us.

Could he have refused to move to Chelsea to play elsewhere Ed02? Or was it a case of Basel wanting to cash in on the player as the went out of CL?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was known that if Basel dropped out of the CL then Salah would be available. If he did not want to join Chelsea then all he needed to do was not sign the contract.}

I think we should just move on from this.

He is now warming Chelsea's bench, IMHO I think that's the position that he will keep next season before being loaned out.

At the end of the day, we should enjoy the way Sterling is playing as he has come on leaps and bounds.

Plus he has come through from being a youth team player to the first team and I think that is a great advert to young players knowing that they will get a chance if they come to us.

I'm now looking forward to Ibe making that step up and hopefully Suso coming back with a good years extra experience at the top level.

I am not one for getting into these predictor games and so on but just taking BR's own target of 2 points per game between now and the end of the season, I am confident this will be enough for us to get into the Champions League places.
ie: 20 points from 10 games will give us a final total of 79 points.
My view is that we should avoid defeat to Manchester United and Spurs just to make sure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 points from 10 games ain't good enough in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely 2 points a game from here on would be enough. Spurs are six behind, having played a game more.

There are currently on 53 points and have 9 games to play. The maximum number of points they can get is 80.

Liverpool are on 59 points with 10 games to play. The maximum number of points we can get is 89. But securing 80 points i.e. 21 points from 10 games, would guarantee 4th spot - and that assumes Spurs et al win all of their remaining games! Unlikely. Therefore, we'll almost certainly only need around 16 points from 10 games to secure 4th.

I think if we avoid defeat to United and Spurs then 4th spot will almost be guaranteed by start of April.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not for the title but it will be for CL
I would settle for 6 wins 2 draws and 2 losses as long as we don't lose to the mancs

Agree0 Disagree0

Was a short reply I mean for the title we shouldn't be looking behind us now only forward

Agree0 Disagree0

Utd game is a must win, so is spurs. We will get revenge on one of City or Chelsea that much I know. & we can't afford to slip up to the teams we are expected to beat on paper.

Agree0 Disagree0

76 pts will be good enough for 4th. That's 17 from 30. Less than our pts per game average since Feb last year. To win the league will take 83 pts or so. That's at least 8 wins, two of which must be against Chelsea and City. Fail to beat one or both and it will be curtains. A win against United will effectively secure top 4 for me. 9 pts from next 3 really required to set up a title push with Arsenal drawing at Chelsea. We'd have 68 pts with 7 games left and be 3 pts behind Chelsea (on level games) with them to visit Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

In other words, if we beat everybody, we win the title? I like that.

General question about the club - just how highly rated our the current crop of youngsters we have coming through. I know we have a lot and they are at different stages of development just wondered if anybody could give some over sight?

Is Jordan Ibe impressing?
Is Suso considered a player we can sell to generate revenue (I would think that a huge mistake) or one who'll be involved within the first team?
Has Jack Robinson sorted out his attitude?
Is Jerome Sinclair developing as hoped?
What youngsters are the most likely to get a chance next season?
Is Wisdom doing well on loan?

Sorry for the raggedy style of the post, but if anyone has answers to some of these questions or general comments about our young players development i'd be delighted to hear them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The Birmingham manager seemed very pleased with Ibe.
Suso is tearing up La Liga so much so that half of the league now want to sign him in the summer.
Robbo has been very average. I wasn't aware of any attitude problems but he's not playing well enough for the Prem.
Sinclair has struggled with injury but has time on his side.
Wisdom has arguably been Derbys best player since his arrival.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol.adam you hardly know what you're saying most of the time
You clearly haven't watched derby or almeria play in the last 2-3 months, because they have been very average for a long time

Agree0 Disagree0

Ibe has only played 2 games so far and this is not a time to judge his performance. He however, made a decisive impact when he came on as a sub in his first appearance, getting fellow LFC loanee Jack Robinson send-off.

Suso has been good, but I wouldn't say he has been as good as Adam is saying. He has had his up and down and I feel he has done enough to come back to LFC and feature. But, he will probably go on loan to another club in La Liga.

Robinson has been a regular at Blackpool, as they continue their plummet down the table. I wonder if it was a good idea to send Robinson to a team managed by Paul Ince? Perhaps Ed001 can comment?

Wisdom has been impressive and I won't be surprised if he comes back into the squad next season, but for that, one of Kelly or Flanagan may need to move on.

Ryan McLaughlin suffered an injury and is still recovering I think. He will be staying with Barnsley until the season is over.

Jerome Sinclair has struggled with injury and has hence not featured much over the past 2 years regularly. I hope this has not stunted his progress.

Lloyd Jones and Cameron Brannagan have been the most consistent performers for the U-21's, though Jack Dunn, Brad Smith, Jordan Rossiter and Peterson has done well.

I think we will see a number of players move on in the summer from the academy including Roddan, Bijev, Sama, Sokolik as well as ones on loan; Ngoo & Adorjan.

I don't know how Pelsoi is doing after his injury and not sure what the club will do with Coady, who has progressed very well in a struggling team.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have made my feelings on Ince clear, the man is a conceited, arrogant, self-centred *censored* with no managerial skill whatsoever. Sending Robbo there made no sense to me at the time, but you hope to be proven wrong. Ince had him constrained to his own half at all times, under instruction not to get forward.}

Everyone missed Connor Coady, who's been playing pretty well for the blades. He may still have some way to go before he can play for us but he seems to be making good progress.

I've also kept an eye out for Suso. I've seen him play both well and very badly for Almeria this season. Although he has clearly been their most important creative force, he doesn't seem able to impose himself on a game.

I remember Jordan Henderson and Sterling both having the same problem in the past and they've both fixed the problem but Suso doesn't seem to have figured it out yet.

I can't see him playing for LFC next year because of this inability. I can only see either another loan or a sale.

Returning to the club and not playing would be a really bad option and could easily turn him into the next Dani Pacheco.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is a lot of love for Suso (I want him to do well too) but the truth is that as silky as he looks he never dominates a game and is a peripheral figure too often. He's not ready for our first team and sitting on the bench won't help him develop. We also have Coutinho, Texeira & Alberto vying for similar positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

How about Armin Hodžić? Seems to be doing well enough over on loan in Bosnia. Wonder if he will be in the squad next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2014 12:50:37
I'm sorry Jessie, but none of my statements are unreasonable. Suso has half the teams in Spain interested due to his form this seaon. Admittedly he hasn't been as influential as he was at the start of the season so far this year, but that doesn't make my point wrong. He has been brilliant there this season and there are lots of teams in Spain who want him.

As for Wisdom, he has most definitely not been average. Derby are one of my favourite teams and I've watched a lot of their games this season, particularly since Wisdom arrived. You can instantly tell he is above the rest of the squads level and since he has joined the club has powered its way up the table.

Would you care to elaborate on your childish retort? Or are you simply going to accept the embarassment you've brought upon yoursef and move on?

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

Adam, I have watched Almeria a few times becaise of suso, yeah he has had some decent spells, but he does go missing, and some games I forgot he was playing, so one good game, one poor one denotes average for me!

Does anyone else have this issue. you might call it an inferiority complex - I really don't know what it would be called actually. I mean, I get anxious, nervous, almost afraid. After years of false dawns I keep waiting on this one to come to an end. I tell myself: we're the highest goal-scorers in the league Jack; we're playing exhilarating football; c'mon Jack United have lost the plot; we have a young, confident team, we have a young, dynamic manager etc etc etc. but God knows lads now that the new dawn has finally arrived I'm finding it hard to believe its actually here. its happening. I keep waiting for it to pop! 10 games to go. I keep looking at the league table in the mornings to make sure I didn't read it wrong last night. But every time I look; we're still there - sitting pretty. After I make sure we're still there I then take a look at United to make sure they haven't crept up the table while I was asleep. Do I need to see a doctor, ed?

im with you on this 1 jack but we have to give the team more credit like if you watch the southampton game again how much of a team we looked all working for each other and how brendan seen something wrong and changed it last season we prob would have got beat there, and for the first time in years i'm expecting a win at old trafford but if we don't get what we want next week I think this team is capable of dusting itself off and winning enough to get top 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, same here and I will keep at it until we secure CL football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im worst on the match day especially. during the match my heart beat goes through the roof. And yes I check the prem table about 5 times day to see who is creeping up on us. I was happy spurs lost.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take the hand of ye for 4th place right now!

Agree0 Disagree0

I suffer from the same terrible anxiety I am not entirely enjoying a match unless we are at least four ahead. Again the legacy of the last 20 year.

However I have come to believe (despite being the arch pessimist that by accident or design, shaky defence or not. We can beat anybody in the world on our day and loved this season so far 4th place or not

Hi eds what's happened to Alberto, not even warming the bench of late is he injured or really not up to scratch? What is his best position and do you think he will get a chance or move on?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - That is a Dear Brendan letter Daniel.}

Alberto & Ilori were both signings for the long-term, not this season. It's the club calculating that 7m now is a 20m player in the future. Both are young, physically developing and from Latin countries where the pace of the game is slower. The club have acclimatised them, inducted them in the way of Liverpool and will integrate them into the first eleven when they are ready. It's not wasted money because they haven't played much this season. We are challenging for the title for gods sake with quality youngsters being blooded to strengthen the squad in years to come. High hopes for Ilori, Alberto, Borini & Ibe.

See Mourinho is waffling on again about "king of the divers", obviously referring to Suarez. He does this to deflect criticism of his players, Eto' in this case. Can't blame him for that I guess.
Just wondering, is there a more frustrating manager in football? He doesn't play attractive football, hardly ever gives credit where it's due, has a God complex and loves playing mind games with the opposition at just the right time. Oh, and seems to have the media eating out of his hand.
Have to admit though, his players seem to love him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's a great manager, probably the best around. But yeh the football his teams play are boring. If it's not us I'd rather watch the likes of Arsenal, City, Spurs even United before Chelsea.
