hey eds, love the site! i know everyone is interested on who is coming in but who do you think we will sell/release or loan?

i reckon it will be something like....

Gone: maxi, kuyt, aurelio, cole, aquilani, pacheco?

Possible Leavers: doni, jones, spearing, wilson, eccleston, darby?

that is a lot of wages that may be freed up for possible signings :)

Unfortunately the reply to post option is not working for me Ed so when I posted earlier suggesting we should be looking in the championship and lower leagues because there are decent bargains to be had, and some clown decided to respond with..yeah lets shop in the championship and we will end up in there next season..
Lawrenson,Hanson,Souness,Rush, Nichol, Neal and I could keep going.
Its when we changed our philosophy and stopped uncovering these players from lower leagues that it all started going wrong.
Which big money, foreign speaking star was it Shanks signed again?
But maybe your right (obviously you never left a name) I mean what the hell did Shanks know about building a great side from mediocrity.
And before some other person comes on I know those names arent all the shanks team.
Rant over Ed, Im just glad Im getting paid doing this, the amount you have to put up with ( play Aqualani idiots ) I hope your making a fortune!
RNred

@RNred, The problem with looking at the championship and lower leagues for player is the gap is just way too big now days.
I mean look how poor Downing, Adam, Hendo & Spearing have played this season. I think we should go for more young foreign players. Spanish, Germans, French, Holland & South Americans, players from those country's are technically years ahead of the british youngsters.

Like french and spanish players haven't failed us before. yeah, right.

Buying players has nothing to do with which league level they play in.

Just seen the new home kit and oh my god i will not be buying it. its just damm right ugly and i can't believe the warrior sponser has taken the place of adidas. Apart from that i like the 'polo' style but the colours are pretty awful aswell.

Yeah.. red is a disgraceful colour, right?

I think the kit is beautiful and is one of the best in recent memory.

BthekingB

You are an idiot, warrior are our kit makers not adidas anymore, plus the kit looks good, looks better on the players than on its own, plus its gold not yellow, very retro

Disagree. It is simple, yes, but I like the collar and the colours of Spanish National team. How can that be bad? Maybe this will attract Torres back! He was a bull after all right?

I think its pretty good

AG

Well, Mr original poster, what colour would you have the kit? Blue i suppose?

Why do many lfc fans want kenny to go? I think he has come back into the game and will have quickly learnt that the game has changed a hell of a lot since he left management years ago. Imo kennys only mistake was he did not have a plan B! He did not buy additional players incase of injuries and lack of form. Look at man u and man city they have 5+ strikers. When 1 loses form odds are another gains form. We have only 2 strikers. Also i posted in january that kenny should buy a midfielder because due to injuries etc we have been left with no one to fill the gaps. It says a lot when our only backup is jay spearing. If kenny can bring in some top strikers and a couple of midfielders. Jobs a gud en and we will defo be challenging again! Do you agree eds?

Maybe because his poor tactics, poor buys, poor team selection, no plan b and he comes out with some stupid things like this season has been good enough we've reached 2 cup final won 1 but lost another 8th in the league.
If you spent £115m you at least want to close the gap on the to four!

I agree KB, bring back Umbro so they can pay us £199 per season. Lol I'm ashamed to admit it but Umbro cloths do last ages and are cheap, I use the vests in the gym.

I meant on the retro tops for sale on the club's website. You can get the crew and V neck old tops, with the Liverbird badge.
But they're missing the Umbro sign.
WHy couldn't we do a separate deal for retro tops & trackies only ?
The Real KB

Umbro are nike now.

Draw it on kB with a permanent marker lol

Would Love To Sign:

Rasmus Elm-7 Million
Younes Belhanda-10 Million
Luuk De Jong-12 Million
Clint Dempsey-8 Million
Junior Hoilett-Free

Would Like To Sell:

Kuyt-4 Million
Maxi-3 Million
Aquilani-6 Million
Spearing-3 Million
Cole-5 Million

Not Dempsey, i'd rather avoid buying dirty, spiteful players.

Former Liverpool FC striker Neil Mellor forced to retire through injury aged just 29

Neil Andrew Mellor (born 4 November 1982. English professional footballer who began his career at Liverpool in the Premier League and most recently played for Preston North End. He made his name in 2004 by scoring a stunning last-minute goal from long range to give Liverpool a 2–1 victory over Arsenal at Anfield. Mellor also scored a vital goal and set up another during Liverpool's match with Olympiacos at Anfield during the group stage of the 2004–05 UEFA Champions League, which Liverpool went on to win. In December 2011, a knee injury sustained following a tackle by Milton Keynes striker Jabo Ibehre resulted in Mellor being forced into announcing his retirement on 9 May 2012.

Why didn't he ever make it at liverpool {Ed003's Note - because he wasnt good enough}

Mostly due to being injured a lot. He was very talented at a young age and helped Liverpool win some important games but because of his injuries it took away all that momentum and we got rid.

BthekingB {Ed016's Note - He had some special assists/goals in 04/05 did his best. The brilliant one against Arsenal I will always remember him for. Sad he moved on. Even sadder his career is cut short}

10 May 2012 23:02:28
why cant we sign players like M'Vila. Its annoying watching these losers. Rafa should come back n offer these kinds of players what ever they want in wages.

money doesn't matter when your looking for success.

While I appreciate that you really want success, I am sure that Leeds Utd will not agree with that theory.

AK {Ed016's Note - ah Leeds United......glad thats done}

Seen a leak on the new kit, it's absolutely shocking, red polo, with yellow writing, absolute horrific, proves were not a top 4 club anymore..

Its actually not bad, its simple and elegant

I think its class. Cant wait to buy it.

Have you seen the tartan United one mate? That must mean they'll be playing in the SPL, next season.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

It's a good job your not an arsenal of man utd fan then because both of theirs are looking even worse!

Your kit is different, ill give it that. Not sure what to make of it but it doesnt matter to me, as a United fan - not the worst Ive seen though!

Ours is weird. Gonna take some getting used to, that one. Arsenals looks smart, I reckon.

Our record ever attendance is just short of 62,000 and our record average attendance is just over 48,000.
Now UTD do have plans to expand to nearly 95,000 and we know we have to start competing with them on all fronts if we are ever going to regulary win titles again. So my question is Ed how big a stadium could we really expect to fill consistently? {Ed002's Note - 60-65k I would think.}

United can only fill their stadium they if they keep winning the title.

They won't be doing that as much; they are expanding at exactly the wrong time. {Ed016's Note - I can tell you. United will struggle if they are not succesful. I am actually hoping City do win, just so United know how it feels to miss out on the league by a slither, ala our 1 point miss from league glory a few years back}

We could easily fill a 70-75k consistently IMO we have a 60k season ticket waiting list.

Obviously am not implementing we will build a 75k.

Tom.

10 May 2012 22:24:04
Eds any chance we could sign heskey ?
Im sure millions would buy a new heskey 8 shirt...
This would generate billions for the club..

10 May 2012 22:23:33
Ed is it true Warrior comissioned ardent LFC fan and stylista GOK WAN to design the new kit?

This would be the first time a season tkt holder has designed the LFC kit. Harry Humphries 1923 does not count due to the way tickets were allocated back then.

Who cares about team performance the style and hue of the new kit is all that matters. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, but let me know when you find out.}

How you look affects your performance. This has been proven in plenty of studies and experiments. Get a clue before posting

10 May 2012 22:09:38
hi eds, great site by the way.please could you tell me, if you know, how do these kit deals work?
for example, just because we sell a kit in spain with reina on the back of it, surely the money dosent go all too liverpool! or when people say we are trying too buy an american player too boost our sales in the US....surely liverpool fc only take a small percentage?
please could you clear that up for me eds?

jonno {Ed002's Note - The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Adidas, Warrior, Nike etc.) pay the club an amount each year which allows them to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}

To all the Ed's concerned can you please make people take an IQ test before posting on here. Some of the spelling/suggestions are atrocious.

There should be a comma or a full stop in your post, after the word concerned.

That's me fooked then!

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Seriously pal, get a life.

You're missing a comma and a question mark in that sentence buddy. Just Saying.

Time to reflect.
Our spine, when all fit, is good and title quality, what we lack is consistency out on the flanks, both full back positions as well as midfield and wideforwad positions. Some might say that out left back spot has been fixed, they ARE WRONG( it has been and
Improvement though). Enrique this season as cost him 2-3 games(6-9 points) and the fa cup trophy. HE let Ramirez past him easily and Ramirez scored. Downing has been a improvement aswell but not solving the left wing problem. Look at united, their attacking force comes from Rooney, nani, young, and valencia. 3 of those four play on the wing. And their still want gaitan to make it 4 strong wingers. Our spine is:
Reina
? Skrtel agger ?
Lucas
? Gerrad/Hendo/jonjo ?
Suarez Carroll
**carroll on recent performances and his HUGE improvement.

We need a backup striker incase one of ours gets hurt, we need a defensive mid who get throw a good pass here and there, and we need 2 fullbacks, 2 wingers. And one winger who can play on either wing( so 3 wingers).

take a look on the warrior football site, they dont have pics of the new lfc shirt yet, but they have some teaser type thing that is building hype... you have to admit americans know how to advertise well

That is what they are best at.

10 May 2012 21:30:27
Time to take stock and reflect on the season. Of course the first question is whether you judge top 4 more important than a trophy?

The league, in hindsight has been nothing short of a disaster. The home results utterly unacceptable, whilst some tidy away performances have been watered down with some shockers. The signings, their impacts (or lack of) and the unbelievable, poor consistency of our finishing, some dodgy tactics and formations too boot, still feeling the ripples of the effects from the H&G era, a squad not deep enough, some senior players going off the boil, injuries and SuarezGate, wage bill still too high, another £50M down in the accounts, another £100M needed to get us anywhere near and the stadium no nearer to seeing a spade in the ground!

Looks a woeful position but that's the negatives to fish through. The positives?

The football upto and including the Arsenal home game, on the whole has been better. Cast your minds over the home games and in particular the last, numerous, gasp saves from Bunn, Vorm, Ruddy and Hart (which has won them the league by the way :) ) The sheer amount of gilt edged chances missed by Suarez, the main culprit, Carroll (six yards v Swansea & Norwich), Kuyt (11 chances from well inside the 6 yard box going astray), the missed penalties (Sunderland 2 pts lost, Wigan 2 pts lost, Arseanl 1 or 3 pts lost?), the woodwork, which has become a source of sheer joviality by now.

You would not expect for so many chances to be created in so many games, and be missed by very good players so often. It defies logic on a massive scale to see repeat, after repeat, after repeat and then having to stomach the likes of Blackburn take the lead by a fluke of an own goal for example and the half time stats say no shots on target for the visitors!

I seriously do not believe we can be as jinxed like we have been this season. At times our football has been very good. The season crumpled on the Arsenal game. Another where we dominated for long, long periods, missed chances galore, a penalty and then see Arsenal not only snatch an un-deserving draw but a 93rd min winner FFS.

Our performances since then have been wholly unacceptable and the players deserve the criticism they are getting. Dalglish went on a bender after the Bolton away game, but the last 10 games on the whole have been a carbon copy of that Bolton shambles. Had we got owners who lived on twitter all the time, it would enough excuse to sack the legend and dent his credentials in that department.

Does he deserve to be sacked? Will he walk....again and open himself up to a tide of ridicule? Or does he deserve another season to put right the wrongs of this season? If KD goes, who to replace him? Do we want the owners akin to Abramovich at CFC, who single-handedly has turned them into a laughing stock with his Real Madrid in the 90's style of sacking managers? "You won the double last year you say Carlo? And? Bye, bye"

Patience is a virtue. Even in this day and age of knee jerk's. If no one learned their lesson about the abuse Lucas took from 2007-2011, then Mr Carroll also looks to be going the same way.

You have to give everyone time. That includes the owners with the stadium, the manager, the players, the new signings.

I'm mindful that if i were the owners right now i wouldn't even be contemplating a change of manager for another 2 years at least. However they are winners, determined, forceful and they know what they want. This isn't a good mix for patience but they are right to be asking questions of everybody. To fail to kick some backsides in the summer would be a dereliction of their duties and would serve more harm than good. Trust in the club. But regardless of our summer signings. Let's not spout about 'this year is Liverpool's year' It won't be. Not yet anyway.

Whilst the club, from top to bottom are ensuring the wrong's are righted in the summer, a word for some of our fans. Kick your own backsides for the utter filth that your support has been this season. At times it has been disgraceful and embarrassing and a hundred times worse than Bjorne Kvarme, Paul Stewart, El Hadji Diouf and Christian Poulsen ever were. In fact i will label you as doing, or is a 'Konchesky' to highlight how crap your support is.

Excellent post mate. Covered everything. But i don't care about the so called "fans" that say ridiculous things like that. Truth is, at the end of the day, they don't deserve to support the club when we're doing well, and i don't want people like that calling themselves fans when we're back in the top 4. The club is better off without them anyway.

Is this new kit released at midnight tonight or tomorrow? {Ed002's Note - Strictly speaking tomorrow as 00:00 today was nearly 22 hours ago.}

It is said that airlines always schedule flights for 11:59 p.m. or 12:01 a.m. “ never at midnight - simply to avoid this sort of confusion. {Ed002's Note - There is no 12:01 after midnight - it is after midday. It is 00:01 after midnight - which blows apart the aircraft argument rather. Did they not teach telling the time in England?}

I was trying to find a way to put this without getting too technical...

So 2 hours? {Ed002's Note - Yes, tomorrow.}

It's a pity that the old classic crew neck doesn't have the old black Umbro diamond on the right chest. I used to absolutely love that logo. There was loads of copies you could get on the local market and some of the one man sports shops, but they never had that diamond. And the kits always ran pink in the wash.
Bring back Umbro !
The Real KB

Perhaps they are using the 12 hour clock rather than the 24?

GuvTOB {Ed002's Note - Er.}

And i just realised how dumb that was!

GuvTOB

Its actually an american site that specifies it as 12:01 am - and I though it would probably illustrate the point a little more clearly. {Ed002's Note - Maybe they have a 48 hour clock.}

Hi eds, not really one for the forums etc, I was just wondering if you've thought of adding a 'football kit talk' website, the others seem quite popular so if it's linked into these sites I'm sure it would do well enough!

I think it is time to wrap Gerrard in cotton wool so that he can carry on playing for a few more years, i would like to see him more in the mcallister role from 12-13 years ago, helping the kids e.g shelvey, and henderson along, and develop into a more holding role, so that we rely on him less and push others to take control, maybe even play a different system where his talents are less relied on. For me the natural succesor to stevie is toure, but as he is not avaliable i would like to see shelvey take it on, he does show flashes of a young gerrard at times, but he needs games and an experienced voice in his ear on the pitch. as for a creative playmaker it confuses me why aquaman wasn't convinced to stay when it was obvious that he was our best player pre-season, perhaps we should try again next time out with aquaman around. As far as wide men go, i would like to put forward Jesus Navas of sevilla, genuine pace and a good crosser, proven international, What do think eds?

Navas is homesick.

He wont leave for Madrid let alone Liverpool.

Just posted a picture of the supposed new Liverpool strip on Liverpool Sightings page, appears to be genuine

Hi Ed couple questions I have
1. It seems like our scouting network/team is always 1 step behind everyone else. Arsenal Newcastle Swansea they all find these hidden gems like tiote, cabaye, miyaichi, vorm, sigurdsson. What exactly our we doing wrong? Do we focus our attention to premiership players to much which has shown to be a failure this season. To sum up are what are other teams doing differently or are we simply lacking/ underachieving in this department.
2. Was ox chamberlain being looked at by other big clubs before his move or another good youth signing by wenger?
3. I know we have signed several youngsters this season ( portugese kid and some npower kids) do any look promising potential wonderkid? {Ed002's Note - The first two questions were answered when asked earlier. I know of no wonderkids right now.}

Just watch what happens to these players in a year or two, with more exposure in europe, they'll be poached.
It is very difficult to scout young players and hold onto them well into their careers. They sign for these clubs to learn and gain exposure, then they're gone as suddenly as they appeared, for 2 reasons. Firstly it's because the players see it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things and secondly, these particular clubs are happy to sell these players off as they develop, obviously just for financial gain and not longevity, this is common with clubs looking to rebuild financially, or are just flat broke.

We're not broke, we have a massive supporter base, and are looking to rebuild ON the pitch, not OFF it like these clubs. As such, we are looking for players who will come to the club, perform well, improve and most importantly, STAY at the club. This is very difficult to do, and will obviously take time to find these players.

Red7.

10 May 2012 20:38:37
Hi eds, If kenny was to leave, in my opinion there could only be one possible realistic replacement. Rafa he is proven at the club and knows the big players well and is also not afraid to get rid of the rubbish players we have brought in recently , like henderson and adam and spearing

Rafa Benitez destroyed this football club so No he WONT be coming back

And bring in some rubbish players again

Rafa served a purpose, he was responsible for the overhaul of our youth academy, we will see great results from our youth structure in the coming years, and this is all down to Rafa. But to keep him on as manager for this reason would be silly. As i said, he did his bit in helping this club rebuild, but we were going nowhere with him, yes results have dipped, but we're building and we're right now seeing a calm before the storm.

Eds. Please can u answer me this, it has been biting at my brain over the last year- who is this mysterious ADAMS these folk talk about on here? Have I seen him play? Does he play for Liverpool fc? Or is he just the spirit of Anfield? God damn, how badly I need to meet this ADAMS! Clarkchenko7

He's quite a good player, He plays quite a bit like Charlie Adam, but he's not as ugly.

10 May 2012 20:21:48
How much would Rasmus Elm command in transfer fees if he would have had 4 years remaining in his contract?

LiverBird

Depends how good he is, how much his club wants to keep him, how much he wants to leave and how many other big clubs are chasing. I reckon you are looking at anything from £12M-£20M although personally I wouldn't be tempted into going much above 12. RED LENIN

Red Lenin,

A figure of 12-20 mil is actually not bad
Hope we do some good business this summer...

This season is set perfectly to go for 2-3 players from the continent....

LiverBird

He is in a middle-ranking league playing for a middle-ranking club. He isn't a star player in that league or at that club. He is injury and illness prone. He has potential, but is not a proven player at top level. 12M is flattery, 10M is more realistic.

12m maximum i'd say, 3 years ago, when we signed Babel, if we'd signed Elm then he'd have cost a mint, but not so much now.

10 May 2012 20:13:48
if we are interested in muniain then i hope we make that extra push for him. he was brilliant in that second half for bilbao he has that doggid work rate and the skills. he can be brilliant for ur

10 May 2012 19:49:59
Lets talk Hendo for a moment, I personally think he is improving every minute he gets on the pitch,tremendous work-rate/engine, good passer,strong and most of all, he's only 21 years old. I disagree with the people who say he is no good, I'm very excited about our crop of young players including hendo,andy,coates,sterling,suso to name a few. Hendo will be a fixture in our midfield for years and I can't wait to see him flourish next season. That being said, I hope we can sign another CM and LW/RW in the summer, my dream signings would be Sissoko of Toulouse and Muniain of Bilbao. Walk on REDS.

Though I always go with Kenny and his judgement about a player, I feel Henderson has to improve more.....

I usually dont take into account the performances of a player based on his price tag....Silly people do that.....

But I have noticed that he needs to improve on the following :

1. Tackling....I have rarely seen him tackle with venom
2. Forward passing...He prefers to pass sideways or to the winger towards the touchline...Apart from one through pass for Caroll (or Suarez, I dont remember) he hasnt produced those through passes which one expects from an attacking midefielder.....
3. Shooting....His shooting through the laces leaves a lot to be desired

I do think that as the season has gone on his crossing and side footed passes have improved but they are not of premium value...Still the improvement is there......

But he along with Carroll are two of hardest trainers....Fans never seem to take that into account...This attitude will serve them well in the future.....

LiverBird

I pretty much agree with all of that pal. The signings would be very nice.

Ozone

What about kks judgement over downing.

LAVERS

You need at least two seasons in a club to be assessed on.......

He has created roughly 50 plus chances.....we have not taken them....but still previously he has done well in his second season in a club....

LiverBird

I think Hendos forward passing would look better if he had some options. So with another winger coming in, who makes some more creative runs, we'd see better passing. He's a great passer and has great vision. But he does need some better options.

I know it goes way back and out of topic now. But I think it was wrong to fire comolli. He had made some great work at his former clubs. But in Liverpool he had to work with the law of the owner: "Young british players". He could have bought quality if he was allowed to. And then we could watch some CL with Liverpool next season.

DanielDenamrk

The ones who disagrees Don't think Toure, Clichy and eboue. Assou-Ekotto, Bale, Luka Modric and Berbatov has been his great achievements in his former clubs :P
DanielDenmark

You have liste 6 players that he signed that came good im sure if u want to check there is a hell of a lot more that didnt and do you know if they were comolli,s signings or actually spotted by someone else and comoli just did the bidding

And there is a hell of a lot more who did. That was just the best. Remember mate, he only have a small market to buy from. Don't remember that. Only Bale is british of those i metioned, why should he then succeed buying british for Liverpool?

the club will have be laughing at its fans again in the coming days when idiots rush to spend £50 on the new shirt.

Well that's our choice and at least it all goes to a good cause! {Ed002's Note - Most of it goes to Warrior - not Liverpool.}

But if all the idiots didn't go out and buy loads of shirts we wouldn't have a club record shirt deal.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - It is a loss leader for Warrior.}

Is it true ed that the Warrior deal only includes the kits, track suits ect but not merchandise such as keyrings, water bottles ect that would have been adidas branded under the old contract? Cheers

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - Yes, I am not sure of the split but think it relates to soft goods.}

At ED002, what is a loss leader for warrior? {Ed002's Note - They are unlikely to make a profit on the Liverpool deal but they are looking to become a significant player in the market - so hoping for more work to come from this.}

I'd like to comment on Gerrard. Most people on here, when listing their fantasy teams, continue to have Gerrard in the starting 11. Is it possible that this is one of our problems? No doubt he will have a role on the club for years, however, I think we need to move past the mindset of Gerrard as a 'staple' in midfield, or we will suffer the same consequence as Carra being starting CB for far too long. This is not to say Gerrard and Carra would not have significant roles. Carra showed against Chelsea that he is still useful. I just think that if we added a well rounded midfielder in the Gerrard mould, who is young, strong and pacy, we could use Gerrard in his more useful role supporting strikers.

Alot of talk of G. Ramires on this site, however, he is not quite that type of player. Lucas is fantastic, but he isn't exactly distributing the ball, controlling tempo, etc. I don't think Henderson is ready either, so perhaps Eriksen, though expensive, would be worth the money. A foundation for the future. If we added a very strong midfielder, suddenly our attacking options would look better, as would the solidity of defence. I personally think all problems this year lead back to the middle of the park.

Coop

I honestly think bringing gerrard off the bench may be the way to go look at the impact he had in the newcastle game he would be a perfect impact sun also prolonging his carrer by a few years i dont think for 1 minute he would go for it

He should be moved to the wings.....

Thats the only place where he can play, in my opinion, on a consistent basis....Though I am not speaking with any backed up data, but the reason why he is rested so often these days as LFC dont want him to get injured playing consistently in the midfield with his bursts of pace....

If you notice most of his injuries have been groin and hamstring related....Usually players who base their game on speed (like Owen, Overmars) do need to change their game when they lose that acceleration so vital to their game......

Probably Rafa, so genius of him, understood this in 2009 and proposed a new team with the sale of both Torres and Gerrard but the board had more pressing matters in hand then.......

Ed, Did Rafa lose an ally by getting rid of Parry?...Did Rafa target the wrong person?..

What doesit mean wen people say kk is going upstairs? Cheers {Ed002's Note - As one gets older the body begins to change and it is necessary to visit the bathroom more often. This is simply a polite way of saying that the muscles are struggling a little down south.}

Very funny.

Lol it means he will get a job as academy director or club ambassador or something. i.e. he will spend more time with a suit rather than a tracksuit

Ed002,

I have seen that you would like Kenny to be moved on (upstairs/totally).

Why?

1. Isnt the brand of football played by Kenny good enough for you?
2. Do you think any incoming manager will be ambitious enough to go for the title with restrictions on wages and the impending stadium progress (at some stage)
3. Do you think any successive manager,if he does poorly in his first season, will be given time by the Kop as he would have done poorly compared to Kenny?
4. Apart from Downing, most of the premium purchases are of the age group 20-23? So they might come good in time...Some of them already have...
5. Kenny has brought the likes of Kelly, Spearing, Flanagan to the first team....Do you think a new manager will have the same faith in the youngsters?

Last but not the least, if a new manager can be given time WHY NOT KENNY?

Fergusson is 70 and still managing......Kenny is 61...Why is Fergusson not old then....Redknapp 64....Hodgson 64...

Why bring a young manager just for the sake of bringing someone young?

LiverBird {Ed002's Note - I have never said that I would "like" Kenny moved anywhere. Perhaps you are confusing me with someone else?}

Well that statisfies me.

I am big Rafa supporter but I love Kenny.

He is everything a manager should be. His goal celebration, his history, his accent, his choice of players, his attacking style of play and most of all the way Fergusson develops cold feet about him....

I just love it all......

I know many fans may disagree but I absolutely loved us this season.... I would prefer us losing creating chance after chance rather than watch boring draws

We have had so many good performances this season....Yes not the results but surely the 90 minutes have been worth it....

A lot of hand in this "Sack Kenny" agenda is by some people in English media.....What hurts more is our own fans joining the chorus without actually knowing what they are demanding......

The grass is not always greener on the other side.....We swa that with Hodgson when we let Rafa go.....

I hope the owners let Kenny complete what he has started......

LiverBird

He was appointed because it was January and the fans clamored for him. Quite frankly, it has not worked so far. Not just the transfers, but the tactics have been bewildering. Maybe it will work eventually, but I doubt the owners are going to wait.

Carroll, henderson and downing all gt more and more better over the last few weeks. shelvey looks good. sterling has massive potential. give dalglish another season

Totally agree, Think of Kenny's managerial skills what you will, the fact is we need some stability. Apart from Mourhino no other manager will get us firing better than KK would next season. Give him at least next season to finish what he started and then we can judge, This is the very least he deserves. A quality winger and midfielder will make a massive difference.
Tony

Fed up with all the talk of getting rid of KK. If we get rid of him in my opinion we will becoming a club like Chelski and have no chance of retaining our status as most successful club in England

This weeks game is a sign of things to come!

Herts Red

Chelsea have done alright recently. Few premier league titles, few cups, champions league final appearances. I'm not saying fire King Kenny, just pointing out how flawed your argument is

Chelsea remain a toy club owned by a man to whom the whole of life is one big Playstation, and lacking any genuine support at all.

Red Owl {Ed002's Note - Actually he totally commited to the club ans one of teh longest serving owners in the Premier League.}

For Chelski read Money!

To the first comment would chelsea have been so successful if it wasnt for the money pumped into the club ?
derryred

Very unlikely derryred, i agree, but the point is that Herts Red was insinuating that Chelsea's approach has seen them fall short of any kind of success. History books will show this as a very successful period for them, regardless of whether we think they have gone about it in a fair way or not.

It sure will be interesting to see how they fare after Roman one day moves on.

JK

This has been the golden age for Chelsea. I expect them to cap it off by winning the Champions League.

This is only a good thing for the EPL.

And they have done it by constantly firing managers. Lesson? There is more than one way to success.

Do they have money? Yes. But there's no point in whining now. This is modern football.

we've only scored one more goal in the league than the amount of times we've hit the woodwork this season (47).

Hello Eds,
I feel that Liverpool supporters would not be too happy to see David Moyse as a new manager. Or am I wrong? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry. For me what is best for the club should be paramount.}

He was defeated by benfica, and the same benfica was beaten by rafas liverpool in europa league, and on that game everton played nowing nothing about football, and liverpool gave a wery but wery good tecnicall lection to benfica, and now mwho is better benitez or moyes, wif moyesh liverpool might get may n by luck top 4, and the worst manager 4 euro competition, and wif BENITEZ. liverpool can win the premier and do much better in europe. so now all this new manager list they r showing like klop, martinez, moyes, harry R, villas boas, etc, is all man u fans taunt they now, wif benitez wif liverpool will get top word players becouse many many many players nows who is benitez, but nobody nows klop, moyes. harry R, and etc. so get benitez now, he wont manage liverpool like a manager, he wil do it like harted liverpool manager, becouse hev got liverpool in his hart

I've just read what Comolli recently had to say on Andy Carroll. Thought it was interesting as Comolli briefly talks about Carroll's life style and attitude.

"He's a much better player technically, his runs are better, he's very fit, his lifestyle is very good," Comolli said.

"All the time I was at Liverpool and he was at Liverpool, he was never drinking or doing stupid things. He looks after himself.

"It's part of an education process. When he first came to Liverpool, the staff got hold of him and said, 'This is what you have to do if you want to get to the top'. He totally grabbed it and ran with it.

"You can see the effect at the moment and I think it's just the beginning. All the stats prove that strikers, especially target strikers, peak when they are 26. He's 23.

"He's got so much more to come, it's incredible. I think we are only seeing the beginning. He's intelligent, he's dedicated, he listens, he's got a good lifestyle. I don't see why he shouldn't be a success."

I have to say I do see his point and I am very optimistic regarding Carroll for next season. He is a different animal now to what he was when he first came. His runs are now better, his movement is more intelligent, he's now starting to boss, hes certainly fitter, he plays for the team, his footwork/ first touch has improved but still needs work.

I do feel having pondered over what Commolli said today that whilst the new lads haven't really hit the ground running and us fans have been very critical, this moneyball model that clearly played its part in identifying the transfer targets, may in fact, with the right training at Melwood, prove successful once the new lads fine tune the way Kenny's got them playing. There is clear evidence of improvement with all the lads except Downing and Enrique who unfortunately seemed to run out of steam towards the end of the season.

Ozone

Indeed, people haven= been very quick to attack our transfers, while conveniently ignoring that Carroll and Henderson were both bought with the future in mind. Both have already improved, and hopefully they will continue to do so.

Red Owl

I remember Chris in Tamworth and Ozone wanted Carroll sold just 2 months back.....

They didnt seem to think that he will ever come good...Nice to see him proving people wrong.....

Just shows that we shouldnt leave them alone when times are not good.....Doing so is as good as kicking someone when they are down....

The only buy which is starting to worry me is Downing.....But he should be given another season.....

When you change your house it takes at least a month to settle down......When you change your city it takes at least 3 months to settle....Imagine a change of company as well and the expectations that come with your job.....

Its a testament of the grit and talent which Suarez posseses that he has settled down so quickly and admirably..

Just to emphasize that anot all fingers are same......

LiverBird

My opinion of Carroll was well documented on here at the start of the season Liverbird. I couldn't see what he brought to the team, poor movement, terrible first touch, lazy and no strength. I'm over the moon that I got it wrong, he's clearly been working at his game and changed his lifestyle. I'm hoping he gets the England call up so he stays out of trouble and focused during the summer.

Re : Brad Jones

I applaud LFC for being so patient with Brad the past year.

I believe his wife is English so i'm sure at seasons end they would tell the club of their plans.

WIth the A-League season in Australia having already finished I wouldn't be suprised if one of the clubs (particularly Brett Emerton's Sydney FC or Harry Kewell's Melbourne Victory or Brad's home town Perth Glory) would offer him a chance to come home either for a season or two or permanently.

Whatever you do Brad as a fellow Aussie I am so proud of your strength and determination, courage and valour in the past 12 months by you and your family. Hopefully a tribute or legends match is done in honour of your beautiful Luca in the off-season to raise funds for leukemia research.

Agree .. Brad is a very brave, courageous man...

Been a daily reader for the past 8 or so months but this is my first post. This is what i would love to realisticly happen this season with regards to the team.

Gk - reina/jones
rb - johnson/kelly
cb - skrtel/agger/caragher/shawcross 9mill
lb - enrique/agger
rw - bellamy/affelay on loan/belhanda 8mill
lw - downing/ramires 12mill/hoilet free
cm - gerrard/lucas/hendo/adam/granero 5mill
Str - caroll/suarez/giroud 12mil/dempsey 5mill

Sell - spearing.aqua.cole.wilson.kuyt.aurelio.maxi
loan - flano.robinson.coates.sterling.coady.suso.morgan

what do you think. Dont think im being unrealistic

Actually, your valuations are wrong and you have us signing way too many players, so yes, you are being unrealistic. Perhaps two to three new players. One of the main issues this year seemed to be that the players were all new to each other, so adding 4 or 5 new players won't fix that problem.

No Coates then??

Wasnt thinking of signing them all. Just options with a major peference for 4-4-2 with giroud, affelay and ramirez

10 May 2012 17:26:18
Just heard from a very reliable source that LFC are looking at the following free transfers to add depth to the squad for next season. KD wants to get value by signing free transfers before moving for other targets using his kitty.

Emmanuel Adebyor (28), Saloman Kalou (26) Junior Hoilett (21), Hugo Rodallega (26), Graig Gordon (29), Royston Drenthe (25), Riccardo Montolivo (27), Douglas (24) FC Twente, Elm (26) Heerenveen.

Think 2 or 3 of these targets would represent great value and show a good transfer policy with strong resale values in the future. {Ed002's Note - Kenny has a bit of a shock coming if he is looking to get the likes of Adebayor wiand Elm for free. Montolivo is going to Milan and Heerenveen is an entire team.}

Heerenveen?

Well if we can get the full team on a free surely odds are that 1 or 2 will come good law of averages lol

Why are Liverpool keeping the likes of Spearing ?? Alberto Aquilani is a talent and we keep loaning him off. He needs a chance to prove how good he really is

He does not want to play for liverpool!!

Macca, you say the owners are very wealthy individuals who want us to do well. Does this mean that you have heard they are going to invest significantly in order to build a better squad? I think that it is obvious to everyone that we are a goof 4-5 players short of competing for a champions league place again. Do you think that the owners and the current management team know this or do you think that they believe the current squad with maybe 1 or 2 additons would be good enough to challenge?

10 May 2012 16:40:46
We have been talking about getting another striker and winger; then I realised why we need to buy a CM. We need a really strong midfield who can dictate the game and create goal-scoring opportunities for our strikers.

We only have Lucas & Stevie who are performing consistently, while Shelvey and Hendo are still finding their feet and Adam's form has been sporadic. We really need a midfield lynchpin like Alonso. Singred

Did you watch the Chelsea game and follow the discussion of what happens when SG does not play?. JJ and hendo did very well....they do not when SG is on the pitch. They are the future, particulalry with Lucas back. I have felt for a long time that we play better without without SG. He is injury prone and not the player he was. Let him have a few years in the sun abroad and then come back in some capacity?

Iggypop

Iggy

I'm saying we are still very light in midfield. Adam and Spearing are squad players. We definitely need a quality CM to complement Lucas and Stevie even as Hendo & Shelvey continue their development.

Let's face it, we literally walked over chavs midfield in the last game because it was like their second team. Pit them against the likes of Mata, Toure, Modric etc they won't cope. Singred

Essien was part of that so-called second string midfield.

Slaven Bilic - confirms he will be stepping down as Croatia Coach at the end of the Euro's what is everybody's opinion on him being approached, would make a great replacement if Kenny decides to step down or up.

As a neutral would be fantastic to see Bilic at Liverpool, would change your club on and off the pitch while also wiping the slate clean media and public opinion wise. Hes a great personality and a great manager.

Moneyball.............What a load of old nonsense, your eyes tell you if what your looking at is the right thing to fit into a system or not, these statistics are ok on computer football games but in the real world its all rubbish, How could you possibly check the stats on a player and assume that hes going to reproduce that in the next 2/3 years?......Its impossible to read the future and i for one am glad the person who tried to utilise this system has been removed from his job..........
Lets get back to some real scouting of players and signing lads who are talented enough to wear the red shirt and who are capable of bringing passion back to this great club........Moneyball......what a crock........

I heard Commoli on the radio and his approach just sounded way to scientific, it totally loses the human element involved.

I'm so glad he's gone.

It's a good system and works amazingly well in baseball, however it is a completely different game. Football has way too many variables for a system to work like that.

Stupid American business concept.
The average game of 'playtime' in baseball is no more than 30min.
How the hell can these principals be applied to football, when some players can play upwards of 45 games a season and internationals.
If this is FSG's approach, then 'god help us!!'. {Ed002's Note - There are 162 games in a regular baseball season and plenty more if they reach the play offs.}

Moneyball
Ed2s Favourite subject

When they make a movie out of it, you know its got to be hogwash.w

Thanks ED02.
Just how much time does the average baseball player actually play in a game.
Compare this to a footballer who plays all 90min per game.
Its a silly concept, you have to compare 'like for like'.
Football is a physical game, whereas baseball is more like 'watching paint dry'.
Don't mean to offend.
But I am sure you will agree its a silly and worthless way to apply any sort of analysis to football. {Ed002's Note - Of course, baseball lends itself to statistics - in a similar way to cricket. Football has a mass of variables so all of the Opta, Castrol etc. stats are really just anecdotal.}

instead of trying to get bargains with 10m here an 10mil there , which most of the time never come off as good players , we need to break the bank for quality players after all id rather have 1 brilliant player than 4 utility players who have no class , pace, vision and knowledge of the game . one young player who springs to mind is munian .

As much as id love nothing more than us spending money on players like Munian... Im just going to throw these names in to the arguement..
Demba Ba
Pappiss Cisse
Yohan Cabaye
Gareth Bale
Robin Van Persie..

All cost bugger all and would get in any team any day of the week..
ItsNotRocketScience

Big-money signings who failed.

Veron
Robinho
Shevchenko
Anelka (madrid)
Aquilani
Keane

And what happens if you spend big on one player and he breaks his leg first game of the season?

JRG

Problem is if you spend 35m here and 20m and 17m there, they also may not come off...see present season for example.

Hi, eds

We'll play in Europa League next season, right?
But what's round we must play first?
Is it collide with friendly? (v Toronto, 21 / v Roma, 25 / v Spur, 28)

{Ed002's Note - It depends if Chelsea win the CL or not. If they do, then it is right in at the Group Stages starting September 20. Else it is the Third Qualify Round (August 2 and August 9) followed by the Fourth Qualifying Round (August 23 and August 30).}

Ed002, are you sure that Liverpool has to enter in the 3rd qualifying round?
Because last year Birmingham, the Carling Cup Winners, had to enter in the 4th round. {Ed002's Note - I am sure.}

Am I the only one worried that Warrior might have designed a really bad kit for us...i hope I am wrong.

I can't stand any of their other designs for other kits. Also given they are an american company who have never had football on their roster, I really hope they at least consulted some Liverpool fans as to what is good/bad.

The Liverbird

One thing is certain, the new kit will have 16 fewer white stripes and maybe three fewer logos. That leaves more room for red.

JB

I like the one on the Internet with the liver bird on the shoulder. It looks great. All the others are just the same old plain red but I can't wait to see what the real one looks like

Eric the red

I hoping for something different i'm sick of kits that are the same design but different colour, it seems lazy -McMenemy

I doubt it will be as bad as the united "table cloth"

MIKEY

Do people really care what the kit looks like?

FowlerisGod

I hope its quite plain and classic. A great retro kit would get us in the mood to bring back a bit of history. Loving the plain red strip with gold warrior sign, liverbird and sponsor... classy {Ed002's Note - Real tight shorts?}

Digger shorts are a must

Great bit of wishful thinking by ed002 there. Haha

Hey eds quick question here it always seems like our scouting network/team is a step behind everyone else. What exactly are we lacking compared to Newcastle and arsenal who find these players like miyachi, tiote, cabaye. Is it because we focus on premier league players to much which has shown to be a failure this year? And was ox chamberlein wanted by any other big clubs or did arsenal snatch up the wonder kid sneakily?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - I disagree that Liverpool's scouting system is behind everyone else's. There was interest from AOC from plenty of clubs last year. He decided on Arsenal.}

10 May 2012 13:59:02
Here is an idea why not invest in our scouting system? Surely then we wouldn't end up with expensive mistakes on a regular basis and may find a few gems.

Listening to Damien Comolli on Talksport I can't help but think...
Swiss Tony

Chris in Tamworth

Winning the Premier League is a bit like making love to a beautiful woman. You must start near the top, pull out all the stops, not run out of steam, hammer home your advantage, and be in there at the finish.

Dirks Engine Room

Dirk, my girl gets it non-league style!

Nice one Dirks.
My favourite real Swiss Toni quote is:
Putting up a tent is like making love to a beautiful women. First you've got to lay her out, put up your pole and slip into the old bag.

Chris in Tamworth
Ps. I wonder if Ed002 is getting any of this? {Ed002's Note - No, but I will delete it if it gets too much. I thought it was the mobster from The Simpsons but I am thinking perhaps not now.}

Dont worry Ed thats about as bad as it gets but really you need to get hold of some Fast Show DVDs.
In fact there's quite a lot of British comedy you should probably take a look at. I'd be happy to recommend a few gems if you like

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - I know about Terry & June and the other psychedelic classics.}

MUST watch comedies
Porridge
Only Fools and Horses
Dads Army
Open All Hours
Harry Enfield
Fast Show
Alan Partridge
Phoenix Nights
Max and Paddy
I've probably missed a couple but if you start with these it will give you a real education in quality comedy
(I realise as an American you have been starved of true comedy, no disrespect)

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - I did leave there in 1981 Chris.}

Sorry Ed I didn't realise you'd been here so long

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - I have not been in England all of that time - only about 10 of those years in England.}

10 May 2012 13:35:21
Well that clears the moneyball situation up, contrary to what some of the Eds and Chris in Tamworth argued, the transfer activity of the past 18 months has been underpinned by the moneyball concept.

Commolli stated on Talksport that this baseball formula, originally devised by Bill Bean, has been applied to football by taking a specific position, looking at the top 5 premiership performers in that position, analysing their statistics, i.e pass success rate, running intensity etc and then identify younger undervalued players who come close to the averages. This then provides the transfer targets. As long as the acquisition fee is less than the average market value of the top 5 players used as the benchmark, hey presto you have your 'little gem' with resale value! What a load of nonsense, small wonder we've been disappointed with some of the new lads. Commolli went on to add that a recent study of Alonso at Madrid, concluded (from the data put into the moneyball formula) that Alonso would be classed as average as a midfield player based on the fact that his running intensity (mainly sprints) significantly brought his overall score down!!

Clearly Kenny's had his hands tied with transfer policy, although I still feel the new lads will ultimately come good, specifically Carroll, the pictures a bit clearer as to why they haven't hit the ground running.

Commolli also indirectly confirmed that in terms of the moneyball model and the criteria used when assessing Downing, he has been a complete disaster (Commolli unwilling to drop names but Richard Keays let the cat out of the bag).

Whether this concept yields future fruit is yet to be seen but in my opinion it isn't something that is going to turn us into title contenders overnight. We are years away from that.

Ozone {Ed002's Note - That is applying statistical analysis using some algorithm that someone has created for the club - and it is not uncommon. A few years back someone, who shall remain nameless, did a similar thing and took the idea to both Arsenal and Chelsea. Arsenal had a guy sit down and apply the approach retrospectively and found very quickly that it was meaningless. Moneyball itself is specific to baseball.}

If that is the case I tHink they've had some level of success. We can all see the qualities of Coates and with the improvement of hendo and Carroll and hopefully Adam can find some form next season. That potentially is a very good core for the next generation Liverpool team. It just needs some finishing touches from the manager which I believe should still be kenny next season. And if running affects a players rating so much then surly we'll be keeping kuyt because he runs more than a wet sloppy turd.

Eric the red

It might uncover a few names I suppose but they would still have to be scouted a lot to see if they are any good and if they would fit into our team.
But To me a well trained and experienced eye (kenny for example) could spot hidden gems a lot better that statistics.
Kenny for DOF anyone?

MIKEY

Sorry Macca!

I dont believe in the owners, granted they are 1 step above H&G but only 1 step. We need massive squad investment they dont seem willing or able to deliver it.

If that's what you want go support City.

How do you know? The transfer window hasn't opened yet.

In 18 months they have made over £115m available for transfers with more to come. Aside from being reckless and doing what one poster suggested and randomly chucking bids in for Iniesta and the like, what more could you possibly want? They're not playing fantasy football, they're trying to build, and so far I think they have been incredibly generous. It's not their lack of investment that's seeing us struggle to reach even 7th, it's the players and staff who've let that happen.

DP

When will people realise that this game is the real world. Very few clubs in the world have limitless funds to go and buy 4,5 or 6 players all with valuations over 30 million. I don't know why we fell we should be able to afford a kitty much bigger than £50 million each season max maybe more at a push with a few sales. But surely over inflated prices don't help any bodies cause mediocre players are dead cert £12 million these days it's gone mad. We might not like to admit it but EVEN UTD under Mr Taggart have never gone for stupidly expensive marquee signings and they have done just fine in the last decade.

The owners were never going to match Man City or Chelsea in financial terms

If that's what you are looking for you'll be disappointed.

They have a different strategy to integrate the youth team into the first and negate the need to spend large sums of Money each Transfer Window.

Problem is that when Chavski and Citeh can buy world class ready made replacements for their repective teams its going to make it near next to impossible to ever catch up!

Sommerset

Did we not get a massive investment last summer?
£100+ million? all the BS about net spend, they could have just banked the money from player sales.
We are moving in the right direction.
StoneCold

How do you come to that Conclusion
Smells a bit like a No name
Glory Hunter to me!!

Lyndon

You'd like a bit of Boom and Bust!!
Before you go off and support another
Team would you! Nipple!

I dont agree with the original poster, yet i fully understand were some fans are coming from. We already have had 2 cowboys with thier spade in the ground within a year speech only to be still waiting years after. I guess fsg are having to deal with fans expectations, fans are anxious to see some progress. With regards to a transfer kitty, im hoping fsg do have money for new players and hopefully not think that what they have spent on players is enough. Personally i think they got Liverpool on the cheap. They also know the huge potential that they have with Liverpool, so to release that you have to speculate to accumulate. Surely they must have looked at our squad when they took over and seen how bad it was! or even after the additions. We lack depth! Kennys new players would needed to perform all season without getting injuries for Liverpool to stand any chance of top 4! That was never gonna happen. Granted we need to get rid of a few players such as Kuyt,Maxi,Auerlio, Aqua, Cole maybe Adam, but we will need quality replacements. Not £5 million players, then the owners demands for top 4 might hold some sway.

The Irish Rover

They got us out of debt aswell

Kenny dalglish is abit greedy i believe, he did say judge me on my league results and my signings at the end of the season, he also said no one is bigger then the club aswell as how much he cares about the club, now my only question is if that is the case why does he not step down and let the owners find a better manager? Instead of waiting for them to tell him too, is this about money? He of all people knows this is our worst season in over 30 years, if he really cares about lfc and not just thinking about his salary hes on then wouldnt he step down? Remember he did say judge me on my league results. RedTurk

Crucify crucify crucify crucify him burn him to a steak cop on he won a cup more than 30 other teams have done this year
red rabb

Ever the optimistic usual post from red turk i usually look at the posters name if i see red turk i usually move on without reading unforunatley i forgot to stick to my rule shame i was in a good mood as well lol

RedTurk your obsession with Dalglish leaving is really becoming tiresum. Why don't you maybe just accept that he might, just might not be going anywhere at this moment in time. He has got a three year contract.

mikehoopersgloves

No he didn't. He said judge us at the end of the season. League not great but two finals and one trophy. That will do for starters.

cozinoz

Lets build the Gallows for Kenny

Taking on the LFC job is like working for Spectre failure is paid with your own life?

Hmm im qouting what dalglish said from his own mouth, its a shame it was all abiut money in his back pocket. He has brought lfc to new lows, after saying judge me on my league results not cup results and the players i sign. Well if we do that kenny it means you should of walked a while ago, the only reason he hasnt walked is his paycheque, every other lfc manager was removed with the same. Criteria. Even souness finishing 6 th twice and winning the fa cup and he was sacked, houllier finishing 4 th and was sacked, rafa finishing 7 th after winning european cup and continously qualifying for the champions league was sacked, now kenny challenging in 8th position and he hasnt had the deceny to say he will step down, no wonder john henry doesnt wana shake his hand, he lied through his teeth, hes still saying this season has been a success. Since when has finishing 8th and a carling cup a success for lfc? Talk about pulling the wool over some
Of you gullable fans.RedTurk

I dont know what part of the world you are from Redturk but i encounter fans like you everyday and im from South Africa. You people are compulsive complainers, when we lose you complain, when we win you complain. Why not give Kenny one more season? No manager is going to turn us around instantly.

"It doesn't matter what happens to Kenny Dalglish. All that matters is Liverpool Football Club. As long as this club doesn't suffer, then that's OK with me. I'll just come into work every day, work as hard as I can and live up to my responsibilities - and we will see what happens from there" - Kenny Dlaglish

RedBurk you are a moran! I can understand some people who question Kenny's signings, I can understand people who question his formations and line-ups, I don't necessarily agree with them, but they're entitled to their opinion. But to question his morals, ethics and his integrity is disgusting. To say that he is only interested in his pay-check is sickening.

When Kenny speaks about Liverpool you can tell he has a love and affection for the club. His only reason for returning was because he believed he could do a better job than the other candidates. He may not have brought the success we all wanted this season but you cannot question his loyalty.

I've always known the kind of person you are from your posts, but to try and dishonour one of the legends of this club with that statement is shocking.

JRG

If you knew what Dalglish means to Liverpool the city, let alone the club & it's fans, you wouldn't of said or even suggested what you did.

dd

Redburk you are a genius JRG ha ha

-------------Reina-----------
Johnson--Skrtel-Agger--Enrique
--------Gerrard--Lucas-------
--------Suarez--Carroll-------

That is 9 of our starting 11 and that to me is top 4 standard. Add 2 creative wingers and that would be impressive.

The likes of Coates, Kelly, Henderson, Shelvey, Downing, Bellamy and a new striker would provide good competition.

Also you'll see the likes of Wisdom, Coady, Suso, Adorjan, Sterling & N'goo play a part in the early rounds of the cup competitions.

So, as for the 2 creative wingers, Dries Mertens and Marvin Martin would be my preference. However, what do I know?

Stone YNWA.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Marvin Martin is not a winger he is a centre mid/attacking midfielder

I'd prefer Marvin the Martian?
StoneCold

Well, whenever I have watched him for Sochaux, he has played on the right and looked impressive.

Stone YNWA.

McLean from sunderland is the best left winger in the league old fashioned skill full scores goals,A player with so much self belief,not scared to try.Will be a star for Ireland at the Euros.

Fair play i dont watch french football but id much prefer someone who is a natural winger.

I know mate, as I would prefer an out and out winger too. But can anyone genuinely name one that is first of all good enough, and available?

If I was dreaming I'd take Antonio Valencia in a heartbeat. But never in a million years will that happen. Markel Susaeta has been mentioned a lot but every time I've watched him he's failed to impress.

I would love for someone to enlighten me...

The plastic armchair fans out for the demise of Gerrard once again

If we did so well for the period Gerrard was out injured as you have suggested we should have made Top 4 obviously we did not do as well as you have suggested, must be a trick of the mind so.

The Goat of Mendes
----------------------------------------------------------------

Considering I haven't missed a home game in 8 years and only missed 3 away this season, I would hardly say I was a plastic armchair fan GOAT, you t*t.

We were on for top 4 until the new year, that's the point, Gerrard came back from injury. I'm certainly not looking for his demise, it's just an opinion based on attending all but 3 games this season! McMenemy makes a valid point regarding healthy competition between Hendo and Jon Jo, although I can see KB's point in so much as we haven't got individual quality of Gerrards standard. Therefore if we said farewell to Gerrard now we would be taking a gamble. It may work for the reasons I put forward, there again it may prove to be a big mistake.

Either way, the argument has nothing to do with any demise, it's to do with his influence on others and the progress of younger players and the team as a whole.

Ozone

This is a very interesting post it shows the Moaners for who they are:

He OZONE claims he's is not looking for Gerrards demise but that's exactly what he wants only he now wants to twist his words.

When the ignorant can't find an answer and get caught out they don't like their ignorance been shown up so as well as twisting what they say they also resort to name Calling

QED

The Goat of Mendes

I agree with Ozone, he's not ignorant.

The facts are the facts Goat, take it or leave it. Opinions are opinions. Rather than name calling (armchair plastic fans) try engaging in some constructive debate on the topic like KB and McMenemy did.

Ozone

OM friggin G goat. Ozone was just sayin the younger lads play better without Gerrard. That's his opinion give it a rest and I mostly agree with him. I'm sure there are many different reasons why that is. My opinion is that Gerrard has sumwat of a temper on the pitch and has a real go at players when they don't do what he wants. He said himself he was about to have a go at Suarez for taking on that shot against Norwich until he saw it was going in. I remember my first few months at work and the senior members of staff having a go at me when I made a mistake. It made me nervouse and somewhat cautious towards my work. It's probably the same with the younger players and Gerrard. And befor you have a go at me as well. No one loves Gerrard more than me. I'm only 27 and haven't been supporting lfc as long as most people on here so part from Owen and fowler. Gerrard is the greatest player I've ever seen put on a Liverpool shirt but maybe it's time to give others a chance to take his place as the new best player in Liverpool. I'm not sayin he's crap now or we should sell him but I do think slowly phasing him out of the team over the next 3-4 years will benefit the younger players. Keep him around to learn from because there is no one better than him at what he does but gradually take him away from the pitch so the younger players can express themselves without thinking' I wanna do this but Gerrard will scream at me ' I'm not sayin there's anything wrong with him demanding perfection but that might not be the way to teach this batch of youngsters we have. Just my opinion and sorry it took so long to explain it.
And to the un named dude down the page having a go at phooey. Henry and van persie started as wingers Gerrard started as right back and Kyle walker was a striker and bale was a left back only two seasons ago. Players can play in more than one position.

Eric the red

In short I have to agree with Ozone ,.at least his opinion is based on following his team all over the country.
I am fed up of these bloody keyboard fans with ill informed criticism coming on here,maybe they should get along and watch a real life game.

Derek

I love Steven Gerrard, in fact, if i have a son his first two names will be Steven Gerrard, yet i agree that we play better without Stevie. I cant explain why but i saw a statistic in March which showed that we had won 10% of games with Stevie and 45% of games without him (i could be wrong so if there is an updated stat that would help)

Just as Carra accepts that if Skrtel and Aggers are playing well, they should continue playing, Stevie will also accept one day that he will have to pass the mantle of team playmaker/pivot to the next generation. It's just that no one at the moment has really stepped up to the plate, but our current crop of midfielders is still young. I will probably say it would be Shelvey to replace Stevie. Singred

You've probably explained the point a bit better than I did Eric, that's precisely what I was trying to say. Never would I wish to denounce Gerrard in any form for what he has done for our club, I still well up everytime I watch the Olympiakos winner.

Ozone

The facts are the facts Goat, take it or leave it. Opinions are opinions. Rather than name calling (armchair plastic fans) try engaging in some constructive debate on the topic like KB and McMenemy did.

You should take some of your own medicine Ozone.

I did not attack you Ozone and never made it personal and never called you a T*T or any such name like you did me seems your compreshesion is bad like many of your buds, eh?

Hey eds,

With the financial fai play rules coming in next at the end of next season do you think FSG will put X amount if anything into the transfer kitty again this season or do you think we will rely completely on selling our excess players?

Josh LFC {Ed002's Note - Don't worry about them just yet - June 2014 and they will not impact transfer policy.}

10 May 2012 11:59:01
So imagine we had been able to play this team for most of the season in thses positions.
Reina
Johnson Skertle Agger Enrique

Gerrard Henderson Lucas Downing

Suarez Carrol

Now I think that most on here would agree that if this lot played as they are capable we would have had a lot more points than we had.
Now maybe not next season but deffinetly the season after we would expect a few of the reserves to be heavily involved with the first team, the likes of sterling, Coady, Adojarn, texeria etc.
All of a sudden the transfer situation looks a lot more complicated. Whilst I expect transfers in the likes of Ramirez, Munian, and De jong seem to be in direct competition with Gerrard and Suarez (unlikely if there both fit and still here) or Henderson and Carrol who are ending the season really well, now in there best positions ( and we have paid a lot for the 2 youngsters), and if they come they will not be coming to sit on the bench.
There age ( and transfer fees ) will also make it very difficult for our kids, the most promissing all seem to play in those positions to, to break into the first team.
I think this summer will be interesting, I have a feeling it may be squad players as opposed to first teamers coming in myself unless the manager has decided to change some of the team above? Is Suarez to much trouble? and have the blood infections taken there toll on Gerrard? I guess were about to find out.
RNred

IF ifs AND ands made pots and pans

Its hard for one player to make it through a season without an injury of one sort or another the likelihood of 11 players doing that well its just Twlight Zone stuff

We have a thread bare team with little cover in important positions, like it or lump it tis a fact.

Agree, but remember that for over a decade we have had one of the best starting 11 in PL. The issue is depth and ability to absorb injuries, quick games in succession etc. This year was no different except that our starting 11 changed quite a bit and is certainly not up to the standard of Rafa's tenure. Alot could be chalked up to so many new players, new style, heightened expectations. Next year will be revealing to say the least. Problem is, even if we finish 6th it will be an 'improvement'

From my post above

We have a thread bare team with little cover in important positions, like it or lump it tis a fact.

I should have said a thread bare SQUAD

For the first replier, it is actually:

Hi Ed's, Macca

Great site - Just wanted to know what your thought is regarding KK? Not interested in what may or may not happen because that has been done to death! Do you agree or disagree with Daglish being given a further season?

I just feel that continuity breeds success at any club! Look at how much Man Sh*ty have thrown at the club and players to bring success, they have been building this for the last 4 seasons and it just goes to show even with all that money they still may end up (A Big maybe) without a trophy should they not win on Sunday.

You look at our stats for the season and we seem to be just a few quality players and tweaks to our team and we could very well be steam rolling teams!!

Could I please here the views of the Ed's or Macca, on whether they agree that Daglish should be given a further season?

Also do you expect us to wait until after the Euro's to purchase new players or attempt to tie this all up prior to it so we don't pay the usual after tournament inflated prices.

Any comments would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Jon LFC

Ok eds, I'll take care of this one: this discussion has been worked to death. Please use the search function. Singred

I agree Singred that's why I put that comment in the first paragraph! Try reading in full.

I have also used the search function many times! I don't believe Macca has once commented on whether he would personally like KK to stay or if he would like to see him go!!

Ed1 wants KK to be given time and I am in agreement with that!

Their are many Eds also and not sure is currently on!

Jon LFC {Ed002's Note - This is not really a forum to pile up questions for Macca I am afraid. He provides what information he has when he has it and will occasionally answer other questions. Repeatedly leaving questions is not helping anyone. He has had a pile of will Falcao be joining questions already.}

Falcon and Suarez. Cool

In Jon LFC's defence, he just asked what your opinions on Kenny was. Not is he or isn't he staying.
The lad just wants to know your personal views...where's the harm in that?

Jon LFC,

If it was me personally i would base my decision on who was available..

If there was no one world class i would be happy to give him one more season..

Cheers

Macca

Give KK one more season, get that Tixiki (sp) fella in to help out then replace KK next season with Guardiola...simples!

The archives section doesn't work before 2011. I wanted to go back to 2010 and read about the Kenny Huang saga because i found it very interesting but it came up saying it was no longer available and gave me 2 links to the same date except in 2011 and 2012. Just thought i'd let you eds know.

Good Morning Eds & Macca and and Fellow Kopites,

Just a few things to say, I know I will Probably get slated for this as I am going to point out some home truths about this football club, and its die hard fans. I have been a huge fan of this season with the young talent which has been bought through. I am a massive fan of Jordon Henderson he brings so much movement to the team and his tackling is second to none. But maybe he has not got the balance or timing yet between making a quick pass and slowing down the game. He has a tendency to play the killer ball when its not needed and a tendency to think about it to much when the counter attack is on. But i have no doubt in my mind the lads a talent. As for Andy Carroll this season has been a develpment season. The lad looks fit as a fiddle he has a fair bit of skill for a big lad and his strength, well you just have to ask invanovic and John terry two of the best CB in the world, The season ending has come to soon for Andy Carroll but my word he will destroy teams next year. As for Little Luis Suarez i will be distraught if he goes as the lad is a special talent, and the fact is he plays better with Carroll he has more room to maneuver so if he stays beware of a 30 goal a season man prior to no set backs.

What do we need well for one we need pure pace as the system we play is based around passing and pace and FLAIR, does not work with Stevie Garrard in the team but i will come back to that. So do we spend big or go youth a personally believe in youth at this moment as there are no stand out flair player for less than 40-30 million, do we need players like Munain and Ramierz or do we have players with the same potential like Sterling and Jack Dunn aswell as Suso, I have added young Jack Dunn in there as i believe he is a Phenominal talent with a eye for a goal. In my honest opinion go youth and go English.

I think You Kopites seem to forget we are English after all, and we have more fight in us than the foreign players playing for Liverpool although there are a select few who I would take out of that category like Pepe Reina and the Sami Hypia of this world. But these lads are from a older generation of footballers who are not as immature as the footballers we have today.

Example A Nick Anelka

No Passion or Desire to stay at any certain club for a period of time.

But did we want the lad at our House yes we did why because he had flair. So dont English players have Flair, Utter Nonsense. Matty Phillips has flair, You can just see when Raheem Sterling plays the lad has got something special, but its early days for the young lad he's still growing.

So what is this focus on foreign players, United didn't win the league with masses of foreign contingency if anything I believe they have gotten worse as have arsenal who I will say hit a fabulous run with there foreign players such as the Henry's and Viera's but recently what have they got to show and even they are going British.

Financially this club has not got the money to keep bashing out £200 - £300 million a season, we are NOT CITEH. Liverpool Football club did not role with the times whereas Man Utd did they saw a platform for money and took it we rested on our laurels, and we have to face the consequences which is youth, and its fabulous to see us actually having a level of youth which could make a impact.

This about it this way we are in transition but so where Barcelona in 2002-2004 and look at that team now, the platform is there and we just have to build on it and that just does not include, foreign imports every season.

However Fellow Kopites I will say as a team we play worse with Steven Garrard playing , Don't mistake me for a individual who does not believe in Stevie G as he has been a idol of mine for the last 10 years. But the lad either needs to change his game or he will never play again, he slows the game down his mobility is questionable and that was Gerrard's game the ability to pick us up and take it to the opposition. But maybe its time for a Sub role or a development on his managerial side.

I don't know what the EDs think or the Kopites think but we are who we are and that's English,

Come on Boys

Scouse Ben

"Jordon Henderson he brings so much movement to the team and his tackling is second to none." I think Hendo is one for the future alright but this stuff about Gerrard is nonsense, he reads the game better then most he plays with, makes the killer passes and scores goals! Was he not putting goals on a plate for Luis the other week when Hendo was just sending the ball backwards are running in circles? Did he not bang in a hat-trick against Everton which including tidy play with Luis? With Stevie playing behind Luis its a major threat. Also you cant reall

You cant really just through Sterling or Suso straight into first team action as they are so young so i think pacy, skillfull wingers are needed.

What a crock of sh1t.
I'm not even going to bother talking about 'non English' players that have graced Anfield and made good, both for themselves and for the club. The list would be endless.

Redjinal

Ps. We're not English, we're Scouse.

The only reason arsenal are using english players is because of the home grown rule, and english players do not have flair at all. The spanish are taught from a very young age to always look for a pass forwards and move the ball quickly, which is why technically they are the best in the world at the moment, whereas english players like henderson or spearing pass sideways or backwards and jog on after they pass, no fluid movement. The fluidity is provided by the likes of suarez and rodriguez, the tough no-nonsense side of the game is dealt with by the english, henderson's tackling and the caragher of old, not to mention stevie. Buyingmore and more british players ruins the fluid passing style, proof - henderson, spearing walcott, adam, ramsey all good examples of British players who cannot pass to save their lives, but with the exception of walcot, can all tackle.

Great post. I agree that we need to bring these young lads through, but we never seem to have the balls to do it. The stakes are always too high for the manager in every game and they bottle it.

Sterling will be amazing, but when will Kenny play him? Surely he could have done already? He only gave him 10 minutes at the end of a meaningless game on Tuesday. He keeps saying that its not fair to put pressure on the kids, but doesnt everyone else say that the kids play without fear?

Something needs to give. If Kenny stays on, I think the owners will be putting pressure on him to bring the kids through as well.

Red-G

Yeah lets hype stirling up more, thats going to help him isnt it. There's enough pressure to play for LFC in its own right without the fans actually saying 'stirling will be amazing' Just let him play when he plays and get behind him whenever he does, if we expect too much itll be that much harder to take when he doesnt perform.

Disagree about Sterling. All the 'big hype' youngsters these days have to deal with tremendous pressure. The real ones do and shine. The ones that don't probably just didn't have the skill. Who was the last young hyped star who didn't come good? You can list a hundred I am sure, but which ones were crushed by the expectation so badly that they forgot how to play? I think that 'failure due to weight of expectation' is more a reflection of unrealistic expectation than of loss of players abilities due to nerves.

Is it 2mrw we are gonna see our new kit for next season?

10 May 2012 10:52:03
why dont we concentrate on bringing in a proven goalscorer this summer? we created loads of chances in most games but just didnt convert them. and if we feel we need other midfielders then remember we will have lucas back from injury and then there is also joe cole and aqualani to come back from loans that have both proven how good they can be when given a decent run in the team

And no to Cole and Aquilani, Aquilani hasn't proved anything to anyone, that's why no-one wants to buy him!

Jay Spearing, like myself, was born closer to Liverpool City centre than half the population of Liverpool and closer to Anfield than some

And the point?

The Rob

Where has that come from?

DaveyBootle

I share a birthday with Nigel Clough. That's closer than Jay Spearing gets.

Tristan

And your point is ??

Ok, but the other half of the population were born at least as close to the city centre as you (if not closer), and their arte a few people who born closer to Anfield also.
I was born in Neath, a stones throw away from the late great Richard Burton, and also very close to where Captain Beany was born.

With no DOF currently in place, and from the ED's the general consensus seems to lean towards KK leaving the managers post, does anyone really think the owners are ging to sanction the purchase of any new players untill these positions are filled?
I think listing names that Commoli and KK have been interested in is probably a waste of time.
So why are Elm and De jong still heavilly linked Ed?

All the talk of new players some good some not so good. Why don't we just make a big offer for iniesta and see what happens. His manager has just stepped down and they just lost the league and the champions league so he might be up for a new challenge and if we gonna bid for some new players well we may as well bid for the best. The worst that can happen is we get turned down. {Ed002's Note - The club would very quickly become a laughing stock and buying players would be near impossible if Liverpool were just to through dumb bids around.}

10 May 2012 09:37:47
Anyone though that falcao would be a good signing. Watch him last night him Carroll and Suarez would set the league a light.

with other signing needed in the midfield someone who is creative and a defensive midfielder to replace spearing for when Lucas is injured or even to challenge him

Yes, I think the whole football world has been watching Falcao for some time. Keep up mate!

Just been reading ozones post from last night about how gerrard has been holding the rest of the team back.
He gives a good argument, maybe it is time to move on.
The team almost always plays better without him now.
We should of perhaps mugged Chelsea for 50m a few years back. Shame we wont get anything for him now, nothing the owners or manager would take and risk a fan backlash anyway.
I think the best option now is to encourage him to retire from international duty after this summer and give him more of a part time role in the club. He would be better coming off the bench as he can still change games just can't seem to influence them for 90 minutes. Plus I do believe the players on the pitch will try and up there games to try and keep gerrard on the bench, not only for a little ego boost keeping such a player out the team, but also because he is a massive crank and they dont want to be screamed at every few minutes.

MIKEY

Sorry Mikey he's 31... not 41, he has some good years left in him at the top and no need to just warm the bench just yet.... people think your over as a player once past 30 now! That said, I believe a rethink on International football might be done.

Richards

All the gerrard critics need to have a word with themselves.The fella is not long back from a career threatening injury and is still in the top five midfielders in the country ,just because he doesn't win games singlehandedly every week you want him gone .He has set such high standards that just because he has dropped to near the level of ordinary players he is hammered .He is still world class even if he does play within himself ,he has at least two yrs left in him ,more if he finishes with England ,especially as he is about to be sh*t on again by you know who .Simmo71

A few good years yes, but as a regular first teamer? I'm not so sure.
I know players can play longer these days but gerrards game has always been about power and he has looked very short of that since he has come back from injury.
The main point is we almost always seem to play better without him. He should be saved for certain games, everton for example and used as an impact sub more to allow the team to grow.
He should no longer be the first name on the teamsheet.

MIKEY

Didn't have much influence in the Everton home game did he? Sorry, forgot, that was a few games ago and is no longer considered by the MoD brigade.

We need a squad with him as part of a midfield. Should he play every match - no. Next season we could play 60+ matches if we do well in the Europa and other cups so will need all the experienced players we have. Who would not want Gerrard in their squad?
Kev

Ok your clearly not really reading what I am saying but nevermind.

MIKEY

Suprising how Quickly a True Hero of the
Club Like Steven Gerrard can become Questioned. The man as been almost a one
Man team at times at Liverpool. Turned down the chance of more money and premier league titles at Chelsea. For gods sake he's 31 Ryan gigs who relys on pace far more than Gerrard he's still playing for Manu on a regular basis.
Let's show the Man some respect.

Hi eds! Great site btw. Just a line regarding our ownership at the min. Am I the only 1 who believes that these owners are not that great, I mean they have spent 30-40mil net spend and are no closer on stadium news at all. It seems to me that the ownership of Liverpool is more like a boasting tool maybe even a stepping stone for nesv, possibly to make Europe aware of them existing, cos lets be honest who ever heard of nesv before the takeover. I think we have chosen the wrong option and highly doubt they will see the project through, I mean rumours are rife of a 30 mil kitty which won't get you very far especially with at least 5 clubs having better squads and likely to spend more than us. How can we compete. Look forward to your reply {Ed002's Note - I think that Liverpool are very lucky to have such supportive and responsible owners. I appreciate that many fans don't agree and would rather see some Sheikh or Kenny Huang.}

I'm with ed002 on this one. The other clubs your on about will have to change most of there team every 2-3 years because there all buying older established players and spending a fortune doing it. We're building a team that can potentially play together for the next 8-10 years. They can really establish an understanding of each other and we can make a prophet when the other teams want to buy our players when there older and established. Be patient. Also it takes long enough to get planning permission to alter your house never mind a huge bloody stadium.

Eric the red

I agree with you Ed002 when will people realise it will not happen over night. Its all a step by step process and unfortunatly were have a lot to climb. I dont think the majority of Liverpool fans realise just how far we have sunk over the cowboy years. We were slowly asset stripped over numerous years until such a point that we nearly went under, finished, no more. We now have responsible owners that are rebuilding and its going to be a slow process. The steps are incremental with the first improving are league position and gaining champions league. Only then can we start to attract the top names of world football. The foundations have been laid by responsible considered owners. I expect news about the stadium will come to light this summmer. Our new owners want to do things right please as fans give them the time and space to do so.

Boxer

Haha Kenny Huang didn't he get aressted ed ?

and to this guy our owners seem very supportive and sensible and building or redeveloping a stadium isn't as easy as you make it out to be !!

The owners have done well up to this point...if the money available is 30m plus sales then fine...it's about time our scouts start finding some bargains...however, the owners must be careful how they treat the Suarez situation as there will be a huge backlash if he is sold...

numondo

Some "fans" Ed002...maybe it appears as the majority on here but most realise it is a building process and some have the patience. Stadium issue aside, which seems complicated, I think they have done what I would want. Increased revenue, backed the manager...I certainly don't want a Sheik owning us... although at some point in future I would like fan ownership of some degree...

Try not to tar us all with the same brush...

Richards

Agree with ED002 can't buy success look at city bought in 2008 only now are they pushing for honours. LFC have a wealth of youth talent which is our future. It will take time but I firmly believe that we will get back to our rightful position of being the best club in the world. What JH must do in stages is 1.get back into top 4 for CL next season 2. EPL winners within 3 years and 3. New stadium within 5 years. All of the above will lead to increased funding for the club, and then all of those big name players will be telling the world how honoured they would be to join LFC. The future is bright, LFC till I die. Noel C

If only life was that simple!

Come on lts have it
What "BACKLASH"'will their be if Suarez is sold!!!
Is it The Usual thousands will cancel their season tickets bull!!
Only for the owner to ring up the thousands on the waiting list to let them know
Your DREAM as come true you can have a season ticket

been impressed by shelvey this season hes come on leaps and bounds and looks a decent prospect, do u think he will go on loan next season or stay to play in cup/europa league then deputise when the inevitable injurys kick in?

I would think that most of our youngsters will stay and not go out on loan. They will get game time in the Europa League and Carling Cup. Then when Jan/Feb comes about, we'll either be out of the competitions or we'll be up against strong opposition in which the senior players will get involved. So then the youngsters will be available for loan until the end of the season.
