Emre Can or Gruic to step in if he's not available. It's not the end of the world very good players to fill the void now.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

10 Oct 2016 22:38:36
I love having these options, that's what Klopp's gone and done, I'd love to see Grujic don't get me wrong but for the utd game it has to be Can for me.

10 Oct 2016 23:12:11
Whoever plays, I'm sure Klopp will have them well prepared and fired up for this game.
Just hope Hendo and Studge come through tomorrow's match ok.

11 Oct 2016 07:01:19
If Wiji and Lallana injured, we can always go Can, Hendo, Coutinho midfield. I do worry a bit about Can not being match fit and possibly a defensive lapse or two as a result, but Hendo can sit a little deeper to help protect if we're under pressure. We saw that work well previously with Can and Hendo alongside each other in a 4-2-3-1 last season and Coutinho will have the freedom to break forward in Attack.

Can't wait for the match, going to be huge.

11 Oct 2016 08:25:16
Can played a friendly behind closed doors on Monday i believe, so he may not be fully up to speed but i would not say he is unfit.

11 Oct 2016 14:15:13
Can is fit to play as he`s a workaholic. Remember how he got injured in the Dortmund game and would be out for 4 weeks YET came back and had his BEST game in a red shirt vs Villareal with no games in between. The boy will be fine. I would play Can slightly ahead of Hendo (shadow Pogba a bit) with Couts along with them in midfield. Can can also help with marshaling Ibra a bit as he`s a unit like him and almost as tall. Utd will have virtually NO pace in CM and that will be their undoing as Pogba can`t and won`t chase Couts or Can around, just like he didn`t chase around KDB and Silva vs City. If Joe Allen could eat up a whole Utd midfield almost all on his own, what do you think we will do to them especially with Klopp`s reputation for meticulous preparation?

10 Oct 2016 22:00:13
Hey ed001. Bit of a curveball here. Read they have been issuing "green cards" in serie B. Avoiding some kind of green card immigration comment, wondering what your thoughts are on this.

The example I read was the player admitting the ball came off him last which reversed the referees decision. He then issued a green card for good sportsmanship. Think they're onto something or is this just stupid?

Ps. Apparently a player gets a fair play trophy at the end of the season if he has accumulated the most green cards. A CHANCE AT SILVERWARE? Seriously seems like a waste of effort to me.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - it has to be worth a try. Make fair play worthwhile and maybe we can see less of the pathetic diving we get each week. This probably isn't the answer but at least it is a step forward.}

10 Oct 2016 22:17:14
I like the idea of this.

10 Oct 2016 22:33:37
Sorry but I'm not sure I understand, what do you get for the green card? Some sort of player award at the end of the year? Although the concept is nice, it feels somewhat weak in terms of reward.

Maybe it could be tied into suspensions for accumulated yellows, 3 green cards could cancel out one yellow on the accumulated count or something?

10 Oct 2016 22:49:14
It has to be a worthwhile reward though. I can't imagine Ibrahimovic on 300k/ week really wants a fair play trophy.

Perhaps 3 green cards means you rescind a yellow card so you don't reach 5 for a suspension?

10 Oct 2016 23:15:04
Interesting isn't it, I personally wouldn't mind seeing it come in.

11 Oct 2016 00:20:25
haha, how can you post the words "green card" and not expect a single immigration related comment. There has to be at least one. after 10 years ;) (the people in the green card boat may understand that)
Anyways, jokes aside, it is a good policy to implement, but I think its going to be used by players at their convenience, instead of abiding by it at all times. An example, Henderson kicked the ball out of play when we were in the final third, in the Hull game, when one of their players was down injured. How many players would do that if their team was trailing or if it was a tight game? Same applies to a lot of different situations, like throw-ins, hand-ball, etc, etc.
Furthermore, I wonder if the coaches/ managers will come down heavily on players if they try accumulating these 'green cards' and in the process give away goals which result in their team losing. Its a noble thought, but wonder with so much at stake, especially in the EPL, where every single decision is fought over, if such a concept will prevail.

11 Oct 2016 02:06:52
How about an automatic 3 match ban for diving or unsportsmanlike behaviour?
No yellow, no red, you just have to sit out the next 3 games.

11 Oct 2016 03:19:37
The problem with green cards is that it is just one more thing for officials to keep up with.

11 Oct 2016 05:22:18
I would like to see a yellow being 10 mins on the sideline like in some other sports, it'll make players think a lot more about foul play like diving.

We can then also do away with the rule that two yellows = red which I think spoils games unnecessarily, especially for midfielders who can potentially pick up two yellows for fairly innocuous challenges. It should be up to the referee to determine whether behaviour is bad enough and persistent enough to warrant a red.

11 Oct 2016 07:41:55
Yeah i think the way Ron has phrased it is how it would work best. If you accumulate a number of green cards they can be used to reduce suspensions - it's not a massive change but it certainly wouldn't do any harm. Think things like diving need to be punished more: problem is if you make diving a red card offence you polarize and pressurize officials making actually following through with a red card far less likely - retrospective action would be the best way to deal with it however, as with most things originating from the FA, the rules on retrospective action are backward and nonsensical.

11 Oct 2016 09:50:19
What if two players both try to win a green card? "The ball came off me last, ref". "no, it came off me last, ref". "Sorry, ref, he never touched me, I just slipped; it's not a free kick". "I clipped him accidentally, ref; definite free kick, I hold my hands up".
Just a thought, haha.

11 Oct 2016 12:36:35
Imagine the embarrassment when Howard Webb issues 3 green cards to the same United player in the same match?! Cries of him being part of the United payroll resurface and a major investigation launched into referees receiving bungs for green cards. Doubts cast over the lengths United would go to to become the inaugural winners of the first individual fair play players trophy. This will ruin football for years to come!
I say scrap the idea. Don't want United to get a sniff of any trophy via fair means or foul. Anyway, nurse, I am ready for my medication now.

10 Oct 2016 21:08:18
Watching the Netherlands v France game, and Wijnaldum has just left the pitch holding his hamstring. not good!

Believable9 Unbelievable0

10 Oct 2016 21:14:57
Ahh damn, hopefully it's something minor.

10 Oct 2016 21:59:32
Will miss MU game, info just came out .

10 Oct 2016 22:17:48
that's a real shame, but atleast we have suitable replacements.

10 Oct 2016 23:36:07
Lost 2 of the first team midfield, any team would struggle.

11 Oct 2016 09:30:21
Love the fact that we're now at the stage where Lallana's absence worries us.

11 Oct 2016 14:18:21
It doesn`t worry me in the slightest, Musc. We have suitable and interchangeable options now to step in and do the job. Can and Couts can step in seamlessly into midfield. We can even drop Firmino deep (during the game) if need be as well as put Lucas to kill the game if need be. Not too bothered, really.

10 Oct 2016 20:18:48
So the FA have appointed our referee for next weeks game, from Greater Manchester, interesting.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Given that Liverpool is effectively a suburb of Manchester it will make no difference.}

10 Oct 2016 20:38:39
Most likely a City fan then.

10 Oct 2016 20:32:01
Suburb?

In what way?

{Ed002's Note - In the same way as all of the small outlying towns like Wythenshaw, Oldham, Altringham and Bootle are suburbs of Manchester Davey.

10 Oct 2016 20:39:49
Ed002's If it makes no difference then why not give the job to Chris Foy from Merseyside then.

{Ed002's Note - They don't give it to retired people.}

10 Oct 2016 21:02:14
ok what about Mike Dean.

{Ed002's Note - It has been allocated to someone else - try and get over the paranoia.}

10 Oct 2016 21:02:17
Altringham fan apparently.
To close to Old Trafford for my liking.

10 Oct 2016 21:04:56
Top form today ed002, you've got that twinkle in your eye again 😉.

10 Oct 2016 21:13:01
Davey Davey Davey, how long you been on this site? Wouldn't have thought you would have bite at that!
Ed, well done, another knotch on your bedpost so to speak, you'll have to replace your bed very soon as I'm sure all you have left is a pile of wood chippings.

10 Oct 2016 21:17:51
Spot on ed2, paranonia is what it is. I couldn't care less who is going to ref the game.

10 Oct 2016 21:32:46
LFC16, is paranonia a suburb of Manchester too?

10 Oct 2016 21:52:55
Liverpool is the uk's 7th biggest city, Manchester is the 9th biggest. Surely Manchester is more likely to be a suburb of Liverpool?

10 Oct 2016 22:18:37
It is indeed 18and5 lol.

10 Oct 2016 22:37:56
Although I have enough respect for the integrity of refs not to worry about the appointment of one who grew up in any area at all (after all, even if there was some bias in him because of where he grew up it could just as easily be anti united as pro), not sure I agree with a city of 500k people being a suburb of Manchester any more than Brighton is a suburb of London!

10 Oct 2016 23:06:44
Is right LFC16, glad you took my post in the manner it was intended.

10 Oct 2016 23:12:23
I don't see the problem. United fans generally reside in London, Thailand and Burkino Faso not Manchester.

{Ed041's Note - bit rich lol.

11 Oct 2016 12:23:26
Liverpool and Manchester are separate Urban areas, in separate counties of the country, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

Bootle, historically was part of Lancashire, not Greater Manchester.

11 Oct 2016 14:21:05
In fact if anything, the ref may be slightly more biased towards us as he may not want to be seen as favoring Utd as he`s from the Greater Manchester area, which doesn`t mean he`s a Utd fan, of course. Anyhow, what`s done is done. We move on.

11 Oct 2016 18:59:01
Former referees' chief Keith Hackett says it's 'grossly unfair' to put Anthony Taylor in charge of #LFC vs #MUFC

What's your reply to this then Ed002's.

{Ed041's Note - whinging.

10 Oct 2016 19:02:58
Hi Eds,

In Liverpools friendly against Bradford, back was was Milner, Matip, Lucas, Moreno. Think its possible we may go with this against Man Utd, given Lovren and Clyne could be out?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - certainly would make sense if those two do miss out. Klavan might well come back in though.}

10 Oct 2016 19:35:50
Will be interesting to see if Morenos made improvements over the past few weeks after losing his place.

10 Oct 2016 19:51:03
Moreno been in wouldn't be good for my heart the full 90 mins.

10 Oct 2016 20:30:36
I pray lovren and clyne are fit. Lucas and moreno at back against United doesn't fill me with joy.

10 Oct 2016 21:20:51
Taurus01 - it will be interesting mate but somethings telling me i don't want to see it. i don't trust the lad one bit, but we'll see. of course i hope i'm wrong, i'd love to see the lad do well, but i doubt that's going to happen.

11 Oct 2016 14:22:29
I don`t trust Moreno yet either. He needs to earn that trust as he`s had two years to get better and he`s wasted his chance.

10 Oct 2016 18:11:38
Thanks for that Ron sort echo my thoughts.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

10 Oct 2016 17:48:31
Eds or anyone know if Lallana is going to be fit for monday?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - The club has not said anything.}

10 Oct 2016 12:18:16
hey ed001 will you have time for pre-match teams post for the united game? a big game, would love to hear your thoughts on the game.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I will start on that at some point today to make sure I have time. I won't be watching the internationals, they bore me to tears, so I have a bit more time than usual, other than my cousin from Canada that I haven't seen in 20+ years being over visiting so been spending a bit of time with him.}

10 Oct 2016 14:43:46
I don't know how you do it ed1.

{Ed002's Note - We don't give advice on such matters, you should have no problem getting some educational videos.}

10 Oct 2016 16:06:59
Ed002 - gold 😂.

10 Oct 2016 16:30:02
Top draw that ed ;)

10 Oct 2016 17:31:12
Post of the day!

10 Oct 2016 23:29:03
Haha Ed02 I was going to say something on your first comment further up the page. Seems your jovial mood has returned, wonders how long that will last. I can only presume that the international break is good for the ed's health :)

10 Oct 2016 13:26:33
Just a thought if Couthino goes could Gini not be his replacement. possibly if the signing of Dahoud happens. He is a versatile player already at the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable10

10 Oct 2016 13:38:38
Your views on this Ron would appreciated.

10 Oct 2016 16:20:17
Hi Doyley, there are a lot of posters who will have better understanding of targets than me, but my opinion is that Klopp will move away from recruiting 'like for like' and instead will recruit players who fit in with the team's style. I'm not convinced Coutinho is leaving, but we have lots of players at the club who can play attacking midfeilder. Wijnaldum is a good shout. 😎.

10 Oct 2016 16:15:38
Wiji cannot replace Couts in any way possible as they are very different players and Couts is not going anywhere either hence, Dahoud won`t be happening.

10 Oct 2016 19:03:50
He played on the left for Newcastle he also played no 10 role previously so I believe he can replace him though different type of player.

10 Oct 2016 13:14:01
Does anyone think Ings should be given a chance ahead of Origi?

He's training well scoring goals for reserves.

Perhaps a place on the bench and some minutes?

Believable9 Unbelievable8

10 Oct 2016 14:09:25
Not the game for it, but I think Ings should get his chance from the start against West Brom.

10 Oct 2016 14:42:15
Ings can be excellent, Origi to me is definately one for the future. Ings should start ahead of the lad, he's brilliant. Tbh I love Sturridge but both Ings and Origi should be ahead of him, but what do I know.

10 Oct 2016 15:17:53
I agree he deserves a shot but it's Sturridge for me vs Man Utd and give Ings a shot vs a team away from home where his hard work and chasing their defenders (like Firmino does) will be invaluable.

10 Oct 2016 16:02:48
If we play lower league team in efl, I will like to see ings origi sturridge all starting.

10 Oct 2016 16:18:22
And what has Ings done to start ahead of Origi, exactly? Scoring in the U-23 league? That`s it? The only reason Origi is not playing more is cause Firmino is doing the job. Ings is in the bottom of the pecking order even tho I like him as a player, that is still a fact that can be verified with your eyes so again, what has Ings done this season to play ahead of him?

10 Oct 2016 18:16:35
That's not the case Hamilton, it's about giving a young player who's grafted his way back from a very serious injury a chance to play some first team minutes.
He's scoring in the ressies and training hard. That's good enough for me.

10 Oct 2016 21:26:17
I feel sorry for Ings who is a good young striker, but has to compete with a supremely talented and slightly younger striker in Origi for a periphery role. Origi will play more than Sturridge within the year for me.

11 Oct 2016 02:11:51
For me, Ings would be better suited to a 2 up front scenario. Where we need a plan B.

10 Oct 2016 23:03:37
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

We've scored 24 goals - let's just keep doing what we're doing. Ings is doing well, but I wouldn't change a thing at the moment. He'll get his chance in due time.

10 Oct 2016 08:28:15
I remember a few weeks back there was a thread about players showboating, and ED001 had mentioned Neymar as the prime example of excessive showboating which instead of helping the team, spurs the opposition on and pushes them to boost their game (physical side of it too) . Credit to ED001 for his analysis, as I just read an article where one of the Bolivia defenders (the one who elbowed him recently) has come out and said the exact same thing about Neymar. I strictly condemn any intended action to hurt the opponent, but just wanted to credit ED001 for the insightful analysis.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - thank you, and I agree, no player should react like that, but it does happen.}

10 Oct 2016 08:55:25
Hot head people are hot head players and South America seems to have the most hot heads. Therefore they react badly to being embarrassed by a brilliant skill from Neymar in this case. Calmer players either laugh it off or get their own back with a brilliant skill of their own. I'm pretty sure the player that kicked Neymar in La Liga was South American too.

10 Oct 2016 12:15:14
Could Lil Magician stereotype a bit more?

10 Oct 2016 16:25:04
it has nothing to do with hot headed players being from somewhere specific. Showboating is unprofessional and in no way, respects your opponents and in fact, denigrates them and if you do that, you get exactly what you deserve. I grew up (and played football) in Nigeria, lived in France for five years and now live in the States and I can tell you, if you try to embarrass your fellow competitors even tho you are winning, you get exactly what you deserve. I do not condone any form of violence but if you poke a bull, you`ll get the horns, for sure. Neymar is not better that many of the Brazilian legends before him and many of them never did what he`s doing because it`s against sportsmanship, respect and honor for the game. I read one of Pele`s books where his dad ripped him a new one after he saw him ridicule the opposition while playing on the streets as a kid. Pele said he felt so ashamed that he never did that again. Maybe Neymar should learn a thing or two from The King.

10 Oct 2016 18:17:13
I've given a fair bit of treatment in my day to guys who are showboaters/ gloaters.
Both are unsportsmanlike, it's just the way it is.

10 Oct 2016 19:42:47
If a player has skill and uses it he should be applauded for the skill of it. If it makes oppersition players look silly they need to train harder to combat the skill against them . football is an entertament and what better than some fancy footwork.

11 Oct 2016 00:52:10
On one hand there is this argument about, if you got it, flaunt it, which the skilled players use to showcase their skills/ tricks, but for me, professional football is not only about trickery. Its about respecting the game and setting a good example for millions of people watching the player/ team, and no sport preaches disrespect of your opposition. There are highly skilled athletes who can perform a ton of football related skills, but they take a different path and pursue freestyle football, where showboating is a part of their profession. Fancy footwork and Cruyff turns are all great entertainment, and I all for it, but by showboating I am not just referring to skills and tricks, but just the general attitude and behavior of a player on the football pitch.
Having said that, I (please take note of the "I", since its an opinion) also feel that things like these are part of the players personality and sometimes skills/ tricks done to help the team are perceived as cocky, rather than genius. A perfect example would be Ronaldinho. That guys personality oozed humility and respect, so I never used to get the impression of cockiness when he performed all those worldly tricks, whereas Neymar gives me a different feeling altogether. Not dissing Neymar in any way, as I think he is a brilliant footballer, but just talking about how their personalities come across (to me) .

10 Oct 2016 08:27:45
Morning red men,

International breaks seem to go on forever! I was at the game Saturday and hendo was the best player by a mile. Him, deli Ali and sturridge were the only players trying to make something happen. The rest looked scared of making a mistake.

Anyway, just one week until mou and the boys leave anfield crying 😎

But for now, the loan update

Jack Dunn started on the bench and came on for the last 20 as morecombe lost 3-0 to Carlisle

Chesterfield match with Coventry was postponed meaning Fulton stayed at home watching soccer Saturday.

Lloyd jones missed out injured as Swindon lost 1-0 to Bolton.
Swindon now sit 20th in the league.

Sam hart played for 85minutes as port vale won 1-0 away to move dons

And that's your lot red men.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

10 Oct 2016 08:46:02
Thanks carra.

10 Oct 2016 16:27:19
Good work carra - nice to read 😎.

10 Oct 2016 06:32:37
What is the injury Ojo has Eds, and would you see him and Grujic starring in an EFL Cup run? Provided both are fit?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he has a back problem, I would expect it to be next season before Ojo can be back to his best. Back problems are very difficult, especially at such a young age, as it is probably down to growth spurts so nothing can actually be done but wait for his body to grow into itself, so to speak.}

10 Oct 2016 07:14:55
Must be frustrating for him to have to put things on hold at such a young age, when he has so much talent.

10 Oct 2016 07:27:13
Gutted for him, looking really forward to seeing more of this lad.

10 Oct 2016 10:42:31
I suspect Verheijen has already blamed Klopp for Ojo's back problems too?
