Evening red men,

i had a spare 5 minutes this evening so I thought I would provide you with the loan update nice and early this week.

It was a good win for Awoniyi and NEC as they beat ADO 3-0 giving themselves real breathing space from the bottom 3.
Unfortunately Awoniyi was an unused sub.

Similar to NEC, Burnley had a good win this week beating Bournemouth 3-2 giving themselves breathing space from the bottom 3.
But just like Awoniyi, Flannagan was an unused sub.

Barnsley had a good win this weekend over promotion hopefuls Norwich winning 2-1 at Home.
Ryan Kent played for 88 minutes.

Hertha Berlin sit 3rd in the Bundesliga after an impressive first half of the season.
However they had a weekend to forget after losing 1-0 at home to Werder Bremen.
Allan was an unused Sub.

Huddersfield got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Bristol City.
Danny Ward played the full 90.

It started so well for Chesterfield and Ryan Fulton as they took a 2-1 lead away to Peterborough. However things soon went wrong and they ended up on the wrong side of a 5-2 Thumping.
its been a difficult season for Fulton so far. However he has kept his spot in the sticks which indicates the amount of goals being shipped is down to the team not just a bad keeper.

Salzburg moved up to 2nd after an away win over Sturn Graz.
Wisdom came on in the 70th minute to sure things up after Upamecano was sent off for Salzburg.
This sending off may mean Wisdom now gets a run of games.

Lloyd Jones missed Swindons 4-0 defeat to Sheffiend Utd due to injury.

Sam Hart watched on as Port Vale lost 3-2 to Northampton

Sporting Lisbon missed out on the chance to top after losing 2-1 to Benfica. Markovic was not in the squad, I am guessing due to injury.

And there's your lot.

Frustrating result today for the reds, but the team and Klopp will turn things around. There are no easy games in the prem and we are still in the top 4 with breathing space.
Bring on Wednesday!

Thanks carra.

Brilliant effort Cara šŸ‘.

12 Dec 2016 09:46:11
Thanks Carra what's the crack with Flannagan?

13 Dec 2016 00:11:56
Thanks Carra.

Now I've only been a Liverpool supporter for 40 years but the Liverpool fans are famous for their knowledge of the game and support of their team.
Karius is a youg goalkeeper adapting to a new country and new league after a broken hand too. He's made errors like all worldclass keepers have on their careers upwards.
He needs our support not criticism goalkeepers much like strikers thrive on confidence. Show some class on this forum let's back the man.

Believable18 Unbelievable6

11 Dec 2016 21:04:56
Agreed.
Can't believe some posters wanting migs back, Karius is clearly suffering from a lack of form/ confidence and isn't settled, but still looks better than migs.

11 Dec 2016 21:09:41
The live chat is really irritating at times and today was awful. Some people are completely clueless especially re Karius.

11 Dec 2016 21:35:21
Usual suspects in the live chat calling team spineless etc, finding it more and more embarrassing to see the stuff our so called supporters are spouting when things get tough.

11 Dec 2016 21:41:51
I agree with the above, it's too early to judge Karius but there's no doubt the lad has a problem or two. Today his positioning for the free kick was poor which is a fundamental error and why on earth he didn't challenge for the second goal I will never know.
Wouldn't mind offering Migs plus 10 million for Pickford in January.

{Ed001's Note - did you watch Pickford last season and early this? He had butterfingers, yet now he is suddenly the messiah? Give Karius time and revisit it in the summer.}

11 Dec 2016 22:14:19
spot on, boys. The live chat may be awful but what ulcers me is the pathetic pundits like Carra and Redknapp saying Karius should be dropped and say, "Well, it may kill his confidence but right now, he`s killing the team". I know hey want us to win the PL desperately BUT that is utter nonsense and stupid doublespeak. Which is it?

As for Pinkford? I guess he`s now the new flavour of the month. And who will it be next? And when the GK comes in and is finding it hard to settle in initially, as Karius is then what do you do? Bring him back after his confidence is shot? Or go for Manninger? See the senselessness in all that?

Karius stays in and no matter how much lobbying Mig`s apologists plead his case like those with short term amnesia, he`s a failure and will not suddenly become great because if he was, he wouldn`t have been replaced.

11 Dec 2016 22:53:47
Karius has to be taken out the lime light for his own good. This is not helping him, we need a keeper for now and not 2 yrs down the line. it was harsh that mignolet was dropped in the first place. give the lad some time to get his head together, he's a big boy and I'm sure will understand. if this was lovren or some other outfield player making mistakes like him then there would be calls for him to be dropped in a heart beat. just because he's a keeper shouldn't be any different. I don't dislike the lad but he doesn't warrant a place in the first team at the moment.

11 Dec 2016 23:14:48
We should stick to Karius even if it means no UCL football next season.

12 Dec 2016 00:45:48
Everyone talks about 'giving players time' but we have been doing that for years and how far has that got us? If someone has an opinion that a player isn't that great then apparently they are clueless but i'm sure the same people wanted to wait on Carrol and Balotelli and all these other players who turned out to be nobodies. unfortunately hope doesn't win football matches and allowing crap players to keep playing doesn't make them or the team better. if we keep being a club that develops players and doesn't ever have players that are fully developed when will we achieve anything? How many players that were crap at 23 turn out to be world class? (And i'm not talking about players who perform but don't get the pundits approval like Suarez for example) i'm sure 90% of people here claimed Lovren would come good and we are still waiting. I think Migs would look world class in our current team as he is actually an excellent shot stopper but terrible at claiming crosses and commanding his area but we don't seem to concede as many corners or crosses with Clyne and Milner blocking most attempts. again Klopp didn't make any in game tactical changes to try and win the match. i'm really not sure what his role is on matchday or outside of Melwood. great coach poor manager.

12 Dec 2016 01:09:47
Hes saying he's making the defence shaky and other bollocks. Hardly a shaky defence today, what 3 chances was it hardly blame karius for matips misjudgment! Really laughable tbh. Its not even one we can revisit like an ed002 comment where we go oh rubbish how right.

Carra started last week and now he can't be seen to let it go is all. He didn't believe half the stuff he was banging on about today. You could see him trying to make himself believe.

Goes his confidence is shot and then contiues to barrade him. He knows clesrly karius is listened to what there saying aswel going by karius comments this past week.

Should come out hold his hands up and say i'm not going to make abother comment on his till the end of the season.

11 Dec 2016 23:02:38
Pickford's not the Messiah, Ilori is šŸ˜‡.
However, Pickford's stock is on the rise.
I'm more disturbed by today's errors than last week. Last week was a fumble, that happens. Today he was hopelessly out of position on the free kick and seemingly catatonic for the second goal. It was a Mignoletesque performance.
I don't know what the answer is, I don't think it's Mignolet, but Karius is worrying me.

12 Dec 2016 06:47:15
I'm all for giving players time to settle in, to get used to the pace and the physicality of the premier league, but Karius is no stranger to English football.
Will errors like the free kick get better with time? I'm not so sure. That's a basic mistake, nothing to do with confidence or English conditions.

{Ed001's Note - how is no stranger? He has not even played ten competitive games yet. The mistake, imo, is not playing him in the cup to get him settled quicker.}

12 Dec 2016 10:26:46
Well he's no stranger to England as he was at City before going back to Germany.
He's new to premier league football, granted, but there are no external cultural factors that are new.

{Ed002's Note - I am sorry but we are not going to discuss the subject.}

11 Dec 2016 15:12:37
Forget Hazzard, if costa gets injured for any length of time Chelsea will struggle. He's a man on a mission this year. Great player.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

11 Dec 2016 16:26:42
People not to stop this nonsense. Just accept that Chelsea have proven a lot of people (myself included) wrong. A lot thought they would struggle and that their defence was poor, and maybe there is some truth in that.

However they are top of the league after 15 games and have played every team in title contention. I have seen nothing to suggest they would struggle without one or two players so it is pure subjective speculation that makes us look desperate and bitter.

Stop posting nonsense like this as if Chelsea have had plain sailing this season. In case you missed it, they had a rough patch at the very start of the season when new signings hadn't settled and a few players were struggling for fitness and form. Yet they came through it albeit battered and bruised, responded brilliantly, and went on a 9 game winning streak!

Move along. They are a good team who do not rely on any one individual, and if we want to catch them we need to start disposing of poor sides such as Southampton, Bournemouth and Burnley. Not sit in hope that someone gets injured.

11 Dec 2016 17:22:56
They are not quite a one-man team but take Costa out and that was 0-0 today. Take Costa out all season and i'd say they wouldn't make top 4.

11 Dec 2016 17:23:40
What you talking about mk? Did you watch the match today?

Without a single handed effort by costa the woukd have drew the game.

11 Dec 2016 17:33:24
Ridiculous comment. Without Costa they would probably play a different forward who might have made a different impact.

11 Dec 2016 17:52:03
Adam

Took plenty of stick for saying this the other week mate. They look top class.

11 Dec 2016 17:53:01
Annie

Take Matip out and we ll be out from top 4.

11 Dec 2016 18:27:29
what other forward does what he did today?

11 Dec 2016 18:44:55
I agree Harry but i was talking about Costa and Chelsea.

11 Dec 2016 18:55:34
Annie

Every team has certain individuals who are world class. you could credit them for keeping Costa fit and disciplined this season.

11 Dec 2016 19:18:42
Finders crossed we will get to see Costa on the sidelines for a few games this season and we will see how reliant they are on him. I tend to think Chelsea will struggle without Costa.

11 Dec 2016 19:58:49
they have no other forwards that can do what Costa can. that much is obvious, MK. Does that make them a one man team? No. Does that make them over reliant on him? Absolutely. Will they struggle without him? Yes. Can they win without him for a period of time? We shall see if that happens. They are a very good team tho, no doubt about that.

11 Dec 2016 21:11:12
They are not a very good set of individuals Hamilton. But they are a settled and more balanced team atm. For them they need only one goal to secure all three points while we need at least 3. That's the difference.

11 Dec 2016 21:32:38
Even Matip made a mistake today.
He should be dropped.

No that doesn't make sense.

Same rule applies to Karius.

Karius needs time to bed in but he is on a steep learning curve.

Did any one notice he looked frightened after the goals went in.
The camera panned to him looking over at the bench.

I hope the lad makes it but I don't think he has much to challenge him in training.

11 Dec 2016 22:17:43
Harry, do stay on topic as your every impulse to compare other teams and players to ours, is getting tedious. MK was talking about how Chelsea may or may not struggle without Costa. No one mentioned nor compared them to Liverpool except you. Try to keep up, bro.

On to the match later. Believe we will have too much for West Ham. They are a shambles.

They will probably park the bus and then hit us on the counter with hoof ball tactics. Happy to have Matip back. Our defence is just that much more organised with him in it.

Wonder which option Klopp will go with though to partner Matip. Lucas or Lovren who is starting to produce the performances when he first joined us.

We definitely need another competent CB which is able to step in and take charge when Matip is out and vice versa.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

11 Dec 2016 12:12:44
I'm so worried about today . If Carroll starts I feel he could destroy are defence.

11 Dec 2016 14:11:18
Carroll will be a threat but that is why we have Matip.

11 Dec 2016 14:39:33
We ll outscore the anyways.

12 Dec 2016 09:11:41
Has to be Lovren for me mate, I really like Lucas and all but Lovren will be fine with Matip, not sure how it'd pan out with Lucas on.

11 Dec 2016 09:12:14
Not LFC related but has to do with the EPL. Just wondering if the English game is slowly but surely proving to be too much for Guardiola? Aging City squad too. Lots of problems creeping out and not sure he has enough time to come up with a solution.

Possession football is not going to win you matches, especially if you cannot take your chances.

Read a comment on here recently saying that we are a great pressing team but we cannot deal with teams pressing us. I was a bit bemused with this comment as we defend from the front.

There clearly is a misunderstanding about pressing. Some associated it with running for 100's of miles chasing after the ball. This simply is not the case.

Pressing in short terms is winning the ball back as soon as possible after losing possession.

Bournemouth was a very poor result and our players completely switched off in the second half and Matip was badly missed at the back too. Our second loss of the season, you can't win them all and Bournemouth deserved the win.

We just need to move on from it like we did vs Burnley and bounce back thrashing West Ham. Football is not a complicated sport, especially when you have a manager like Klopp :-)

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - pressing is putting the opponent under pressure by getting close to the man on the ball and forcing him to play it quickly. It is intended to win the ball back as soon as possible, but that is not the definition of it. It is also intended to force errors, to make the opponent go backwards, as well as retrieving the ball.}

11 Dec 2016 09:19:09
His latest comments show a bit of naivety. Tackling may not be a huge deal in the continent, but it's important in England.

11 Dec 2016 09:27:53
All I am saying is some some misunderstand pressing. Klopp likes to play his football in the oppositions half. You press when the opposition have the ball.

11 Dec 2016 09:52:51
The nearer the opponents goal the error is forced by pressing the better chance there is of it becoming a goal scoring opportunity for us.
Thats why Firminios energy is so important to us compared with Sturridge.
Sturridge is undoubtedly a better finisher but Firminio has more attrubutes that suit klopps style.

11 Dec 2016 09:57:13
I remember Sammy Lee saying years ago that he played better when he didn't have to make a tackle.
Surely intercepting the ball gets you possession and attacking much quicker than winning a tackle.

11 Dec 2016 09:58:36
Firmino is an absolute beast when it comes to the press. The guys workrate is phenomenal! Firmino's movement is one of the biggest reasons why he is first choice.

11 Dec 2016 10:04:26
Klopp's pressing style is defined as the ability to win the ball back as soon as it is lost because it is believed that the opponent is at its most vulnerable at the time they win back possession.

If the ball cannot be won immediately, the pressing team drops into a compact unit and then bait the opposition into what are called pressing traps or zones where the ball can be won back again. See the Watford game for a clear demonstration.

Possession is useless if you don't use it well and the Burnley loss is a clear evidence of this. Many talk about the pressing game but don't know that there are variations of the pressing game nor have a clue of how Klopp's pressing system works. A bit of research would help tho.

11 Dec 2016 11:52:03
Pressing comes with a price. Price of getting tired hence some mangers wouldn't want their players to press and get exhausted. Not every managers like pressing. Some would happily let you have 100% of the ball as long as you don't hurt them.

There are different outcomes of pressing, A typical pressing is what Ed01 mentioned, some presses not to win the the ball high but to disrupt the easy flow of passing of the opposition. UTD did this sort of pressing.

Close down Liverpool's players, I don't want your ball but I make sure you don't easily find the space between my players.

If you know how to keep a brilliant shape and compact / discipline, you don't need to press high.

City have no defense and no midfield so they attack as try to score as much as possible.

11 Dec 2016 14:10:40
LFC keep a compact shape irrespective of whether we press high. So not sure what your point is. Discipline is needed irrespective of what style you play too.

11 Dec 2016 22:31:06
Spot on, Logan as keeping a compact shape at all times is the essence of Gegen Pressing, which is the variation that Klopp uses. Every system has a price so you are teaching us nothing on that front, Harry. Also, no one is talking about other managers. We are talking about the pressing system. Again, stay on topic. But I`ll indulge you.

You can let the opposition have the ball but if you do that, you will run into problems inviting pressure for long periods if the opposition knows how to use the possession to hurt you. Your idol Mou tried it vs Klopp last season and got smashed at the Bridge 3-1. We didn`t use our possession well vs Utd hence, his defensive so that system worked over two halves. Simeone did the same thing vs Real Madrid in the past and it worked but this season, he got thumped 3-0.

Moral of the story? To each his own but I`d rather be on the front foot and dictate the play so my team can have a chance to win even tho, I know it will not always work out that way.

11 Dec 2016 08:37:57
Ahoy ed001

You think we need to buy maybe one attacking player in January? Personally I don't see the desperate need, it would look like a bit of a panic buy. Coutinho will most likely be back, Lallana will most likely still be fit, Origi most likely fit, Sturridge surely can't be out for that long into January, and we have Firmino.

"But what if Lallana gets injured, Coutinho is still out and Firmino is out of form? "

Well I guess that's why we have all these talented youngsters to call upon like Woodburn and Ojo?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - exactly, that is when you find out if the kids have what it takes. Otherwise you end up doing a Brendan Rodgers, padding out the squad with 45 average (at best) players for every position. Just stick with what we have, unless a top class centre back and/or left back is a possibility.}

11 Dec 2016 09:06:00
If Liverpool seem 'short', then they are 'short' be design. I mean, you even argued at the beginning that the squad maybe still wasn't trimmed down enough!

I doubt Klopp is going to against that design and buy someone in the transfer window, unless it's a player he really, really wants.

11 Dec 2016 09:15:19
And FTR, I'm talking about the attacking unit. The defensive unit is another story. For instance, Matip seems to be our only dependable centre back. Lucas is makeshift, Lovren is a shambles when the tide is fully against the team, and Klopp already doesn't seem to have much trust in Klavan.

{Ed001's Note - erm, are you ok?}

11 Dec 2016 09:21:09
I'm actually sick in bed.

{Ed001's Note - get well soon mate.}

11 Dec 2016 09:26:34
haha cheers ed, just a minor flu, I'll pull through very soon!

{Ed001's Note - no such thing as minor, unless a woman has it. In which case it is very minor and they should pull themselves together and stop moaning, like us men, who soldier through the truly lifethreatening man-flu with little or no fuss at all.....}

11 Dec 2016 09:41:45
Lol it's sunday night, so I have nothing to soldier through but season 4 of the sopranos.

11 Dec 2016 12:08:32
Nothing against the wonderful academy but I would sign Mahrez. He was sublime yesterday. His pass for the first goal was absolute quality but his touch to set up vardy for the third goal, Just wow. That little trick took out 3 CB's and one Fernando just like that. He made that entire back 5 look kindergarten yesterday.
Off the ball He is a workhorse. You don't need to teach him any thing at Liverpool, He is a ready made fit in Klopp's system. Excellent pressing and wonderful quick movement with a brilliant left foot.
Now imagine Mane and Mahrez on either side of Firmino and Coutinho.
Title šŸ˜.

{Ed001's Note - he is not going to join us in January so that is just a pointless fantasy.}

11 Dec 2016 13:13:38
I wouldn't mind in the summer Ed01.

{Ed001's Note - but that is nothing to do with the original post.}

10 Dec 2016 21:29:12
My Mrs and her friends are staying in the shankly this weekend on a birthday bash in Liverpool. She said that Vladimir smicer has came in and was talking to them. She said he's so down to earth and didn't mind stopping to talk with her. What was your opinion on him eds? I always thought he was a good player with a good attitude. Scored some important goals. Told her to get a pic or two so hopefully I will put it on player sightings if past players are allowed?

{Ed001's Note - nice guy, but suffered badly with injury niggles which meant he was never able to give his best.}
