Retrospective question but why did we not look at Barry and what happened with the interest in Eriksen . Not MOTD fever because we all knew they were quality and available

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Barry quality? Eeh

Agree0 Disagree0

Quality. something missing from LFC's midfield.

Quality. Something missing from Daveyboyboy Blue's banter.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gareth Barry? Quality? One paced and only passes sideways also the wrong side of 30.

Oh yeah sorry Davey. I forgot you have the perennial powerhouse of Gareth Barry.
Far better than this England counterpart Gerrard I'm sure.
Come back when you actually own your best players, ok?

Probably not going to happen but wouldn't mind sending ilori to west ham on loan. would definitely benefit all parties in my opinion.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What under sam at a struggling prem team. no thank you matey. that's a terrible idea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is that such a terrible idea?

Just watched the Barcelona game, 2 things really. Christian Tello didn't feature yet again surely we can get him on a loan deal, and the other was the performance of Arda Turan, this guy is amazing to watch and would benefit our squad hugely anything in these stories eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We can't if both Cissokho and Moses stay, unless we agree a fee for Tello for a summer buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2014 12:13:25
Two loan signing from chelsea to two merseyside teams we get moses and everton get lukaku who got the better deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

Too right ACHILLES. One of two loanees at LFC which Kopites fail to remember when they start criticising EFC for taking players on loan. And which loanees have lit up the EPL sofar? The blue ones. The only thing Moses was famous for was dividing the Red Sea - much like dividing the red posts on this site.

If looking for a DM I'd look at Yacob. Hugely underestimated because he's at a "smaller" club

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In the series being Liverpool yacob featured in the team meeting for us as a week point for then with a massive circle around the word mobility

A big no no for me.

Hi eds,

Please let me know the latest on Yann M'Vila. I really feel we are short in that area. We could really do with a strong DM.

Eds with the left back area clearly looking to be strengthened I assume cissokho will be sent back after the loan spell is done. Have we looked at Ben Davis of swansea I fully expected Taylor to come back in when fit but Davies has done a great job quick knows the system strong at the back an does have a good final ball. Do u think he could be an option in the summer. What's everyone's thoughts on him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Taylor has been fit all season, Ben Davies is the first choice left back there now .

Agree0 Disagree0

Yea that's what I said I thought Taylor would go ryt bk in but Davies has done great

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry pal I misread it totally, I see your point now, thanks for pointing it out .

Agree0 Disagree0

No worries redwire wats your thoughts on davies I personally think he's one of the best in the league quite like flangan as a player but with more pace an left footed.

Whenever I hear GGMU, it kills me inside- I hate it.

Anyway results not going our way, should we expect Sturridge to start and Sterling to go to the bench?

Must win against Stoke

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or maybe drop Coutinho

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep the front 3 unchanged and give Sturridge a place on the bench .

Agree0 Disagree0

Impact sub

Agree0 Disagree0

Same here whenever I hear it I imagine a 10 year old saying it, it just sounds so childish or something haha I think its one of the reasons people don't like united. They think people hate them because of their success, but maybe it has something to do with the fact that Glory Glory Man United makes them sound like glory hunters? I understand some United fans were there since before the glory days, but some fans don't even watch games and back them and brag when they win things. And the fact GGMU has no passion in it, and I think that is probably the main reason. Sorry for the rant lads I always manage to go on one!
Cheers,

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Glory glory is not even their song anyway, it was always the song of Tottenham Hostpur.}

Personally I'm loving glory glory more and more these days, the poor b****ds having been singing it for the last 4 matches and now the defination of glory glory is 2-0 up at home to Swansea and 7th in the league. Sad Mancs.

Great job lads. You bring a lot of clarity to the transfer window debacle.

As was advised by Macca last week where are we upto with the salah transfer. Obviously things change but it seemed a very confident shout from Macca on salah "done deal". What's the bobby Moore (Cockney Rhyming Slang for 'score') on this one?

Thanks in advance.

Just looked at the table, not nice to look at haha

Didnt take spurs long to catch up did it.

Hope we put the away stoke ho do to bed tomorrow

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well when Liverpool are expected to win . They don't so after tomorrow's game all the laughing and joking at spurs and Manchester United will come back to haunt you chaps

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't worry about other teams we are fine this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did you wait for United to score before you posted that Nobster, you must be over the moon leading to Swansea at home.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said newteeth! Mancs pffftt

Agree0 Disagree0

The table only really makes sense if you look at the results of a specific teams & how they've done against comparable opponents then you get the real view

Agree0 Disagree0

We will beat Stoke comprehensively tomorrow!We will football them to death and Suares, Henderson and Sterling will score, maybe Kolo from a set piece as well.Standard procedure now until the seasons end, fingers, toes, bo***cks, the lot crossed!

in my opinion the salah deal will be completed in the summer. i wouldn't expect any player to leave a club who is still in ucl. if the salah deal come's to fruition i will be delighted.

next season i'd love to see a midfield and frontline consisting of

henderson - lucas
suso / coutinho
suarez - sturridge - salah/sterling

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They are not in the CL, that's why they want to sell, they need the money, They are just holding out for the best price and have instructed an agent to basically auction him off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously it's months off, but if Cardiff were to get relegated, I'd love to see us go for Gary Medel

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a season ticket holder at Cardiff mate and medel is amazing, simply amazing, for such a shirt guy he commands the defensive line, he and Lucas together would be phenomenal IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have been trying to get us to sign Medel for years, now he is playing in the Prem people see why I love his play so much. He is one of the best in his role in the world.}

I wanted him so bad this past summer. So bad. I think he and Lucas would be great as a double pivot. He's exactly the type of player we need. One can only hope.

I've always really liked borini. I like his passion, movement and positioning. He is a very clever player. I was disappointed that he didn't rally make an impact at Liverpool. I always watch the Sunderland game when Liverpool are not playing.

Gotta say, he is playing really well at the moment. Him and Johnson are easily Sunderland best players. I see a big future for borini at Liverpool, and I hope.they hold onto him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's nowhere neer as good as what we already have. Is he ever going to be as good as Suarez Sturridge Sterling Coutinho? No. I like him but we should've never bought him, I see him being sold it's best for everyone

Agree0 Disagree0

Dbol. I think he could be mate.
Give the lad a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

When writing a player off we should always remember how long we had to wait for Lucas to blossom and more recently Henderson. Borrini is too young and has too much potential to write off just yet, likewise Joe Allen!

{Ed002's Note - Search engine please.}

11 Jan 2014 13:58:53
Any of these be good? I'd love one or two of them.

-Gregory van der Wiel
-Lukasz Piszczek
-Martín Cáceres
-Pablo Armero
-Emiliano Insúa
-Filipe Luis

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No and insua used to play for us!

Agree0 Disagree0

What about Abate?

Agree0 Disagree0

You'd love one or two of them but you don't know if they're any good?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Keep in mind Chris it is not the player that counts, just as long as Liverpool spend big.}

Of course Ed, silly me

Agree0 Disagree0

What is most alarming is the fact you have listed an ex player. I do wonder :/

Agree0 Disagree0

That Insua chap sounds good. Wonder if we can put in a "Cheeky Bid" £15 million should do it and would make quite a statment of intent thay we are prepared to spend big. Only kidding Redhead, you probably don't remember him, never really settled or got used to the pace of the BPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll always remember that belter he scored against Arsenal in the league cup mind

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember the window we brought in Insua, we paid £1m for the best young SA left back and at the same time Spuds paid £10m for the best young British left back and I was stupid enough to think we got the better deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Misinterpretation here. I mean do you's think they would be good at Liverpool. I know they are good players because I watch football outside of England. The world of football is not in the BPL. Piszczek is one of the best RB's I've seen in recent years for example. Insúa is coming on, I've been watching him the last few seasons, and perhaps he may be willing to return because we need someone to play where he does. Luis' form could be temporary but right now he is playing good football. So all in all, the "clever" abuse is not needed here

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jan 2014 13:29:25

Was wondering if someone could update me tonight on McLaughlin and how he plays as I'm in work all day. Have high hopes for the lad but have only seen him at youth or snippets in other games. Think this time next year he could be a regular in the side if not at the start of next season.

Question for the eds though can/will the loans be extended till the end of the season or will he come back/go elsewhere as I see the next 6 months being vital for the lad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hopefully he plays well and extend his loan a bit longer.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a small, quick, aggressive RB, who'd run through a brick wall. He is very good offensively, and is quick enough to get back in when he gets caught out of position when he's attacking and we lose the ball. Technically he is very good and could probably play further forward. Hopefully he plays well enough NOT to extend his loan and Johnson gets dropped/worried at least.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnon would be dropped as soon a flanno is fit to be honest

By the sounds of it, from what BR has said we won't be signing anyone unless someone becomes available. i'm not too bothered to be honest, we have Sturridge coming back we just got Gerrard back and a couple coming back in full back positions. So we are looking good. As long as the teams around us don't get stronger I think/hope we can just pinch top 4.

Eds - Do you see the teams around us buying much quality or not?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - there will be little in the way of top players moving ahead of a World Cup.}

Thats what I thought, but it just means that that certain players values will be pushed up after world cup unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - or lowered if they have a disaster.....}

I can understand the argument that the club may under value a potential signing. that's one thing.

But to say when the selling club asks for a couple of extra million that we should just pay it is simply ludicrous because we REALLY REALLY want that player.

Maybe BR can get a match day loan from wonga.

Paul mc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As it's only a couple of extra million, maybe you could get the Wonga loan?

See aspas is linked away on a loan again today, if this good happens it must mean someones on the way in and hopefully someone who will improve the team, last few times aspas has played it's been on the right so fingers crossed it could be salad or yarmolenko

Believable0 Unbelievable0

IF we were to play Salad down the right hand side would that make him a ''side salad''?

Thought a brief summary on reported targets would be good.

M. Salah. Other clubs showing interest. Basel pushing for a higher fee than what we've offered. Could be dead this deal.

M. Montoya. Look unlikely to be signing for us in January. Outside chance of signing in summer on a free.

I Rakitic. Looks like he's signer a new deal at Seville with a lower release clause. Outside chance this summer I'd say.

A. Moreno. Doubt we will get as a host of clubs interested.

R. Bertrand. Nothing more than enquiry by us, and we are unsure if Chelsea would sell to us being a top four rival. Still possible transfer in January for me.

W. Hughes. Don't think we would pay 15 million for him. He wouldn't go straight into the team. I'd say if any deal happened this would be summer too.

A. Morata. Looks highly likely to be off to Arsenal, negotiations ongoing so expect him to go to Arsenal.

C. Tello. i'd say he will be staying at Barca, if any deal happened more likely summer again.

Jorginho. Possibility he could sign club is willing to sell, but at what price? I think if reasonable then this is our most likely next signing. Seems to be the only player from list (apart from Bertrand) that club are happy to let go.

3. Hernandez - RTP

4. Danny Ings - possible.

5. Fernando Regges -Won't happen.

6. Cabaye - No chance.

7. Yermalenko - Possible.

8. Costa - Twitter is this?

9. Mata - That ship has sailed.

10. Alonso - Signed a new deal at Adrid.

Hi everyone,

I'm no accountant but aren't we at risk of falling foul of FFP by making any big signings?

The last 3 seasons we must be close to the loss limit, I recall reading somewhere about being close when we signed Sakho and Llori.

Honestly though I have no clue about how FFP works and I'm probably 100% wrong about this. Can anyone of the editors share any thoughts on this? Some seem to be talking about Costa and other expensive names but is that even feasible?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has been over the limit for the past three years. Searching on FFPR will find an explanation.}

Maybe this is a silly question but does this affect our potential qualification into the champions league if we were to finish in the top 4 this season?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Done to death. I am not going to open it up right now.}

11 Jan 2014 02:46:04
January Transfers:

1) Salah &/or Tello (Tello on loan)
2) Will Hughes (Agreement for summer most likely)
3) Competition for Lucas, similar defensive midfield player who can break the play up and isn't a Diame on the ball. I need the Ed's ideas on this one!
4) Ilori to La Liga on Loan
5) Maybe Ibe on loan to Championship

In my opinion all we need for this window, opinions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

1) Salah/tello would be great but want konoplyanka
2) don't see the point of will Hughes ATM, rather wait till summer and see how rossiter and coady come along
3) would love another cm but unsure who, bender (from bayern L) or benega maybe
4&5) love to see them loaned, would prefer Ilori to a premier league team just don't know what team

As much as I rallied for the guy to go in the Summer after all the ridiculous press coverage, I've got to say Luis Suarez is one of the most effective and entertaining Liverpool players I have ever seen. Took some time out tonight to watch all his moments since he joined. Unreal talent, and only 26. I must eat my words, and say I am so, so glad we had him stick around for this season.

Hey Eds, why has there been so little activity in the window in the Premier League so far? Financial reasons or?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - because there is a World Cup coming up, so the only players willing to move are those not playing for the clubs or those whose country hasn't qualified. There has been a lot of movement in the Championship etc, it is just that in the Prem, most clubs want to buy players who are internationals and they don't want to move.}

I taught let's say pastore or lucas mora would move to try go the world cup myslef

Hi eds, great job as always
This is more of a question that I have been keen to ask for a while now. I know Twitter is probably a pet-hate of yours (and mine) but are there any reliable sources (other than this wonderful website). Because reading the papers etc. just seems to either be recycled stories or just plucking a names and clubs out of a hat. Are there any reliable sources?

Keep up the great work!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, I don't use twitter any more, it seems to be nothing other than a platform for imbeciles to spout abuse. I avoid newspapers etc and other websites to stop myself picking up their nonsense and getting confused. So I don't have a clue, sorry.}

10 Jan 2014 20:12:38
Good evening Eds,

Just to take a break from the transfer rumours, I have been enjoying reading through the posts on players we have missed out on over the years. Though I have a few more questions.

What was the story with the Rafa, Alonso and Gareth Barry drama and why did Alonso actually leave other than the Real Madrid interest?

Is it true that we almost signed C. Ronaldo back in the day when Houllier met his family?

I know these questions have been answered before but I searched and couldn't find the answers.

Cheers Eds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Rafa was unhappy with Xabi's form, after he returned from injury and tried to sell him to Arsenal. Alonso rejected the offer and wanted to stay, but Rafa tried to sign Barry to replace him anyway. Alonso left because the club was in money trouble and the Real Madrid offer was too much for us to turn down. He had little choice but to leave being honest. I very much doubt he would have wanted to turn down the offer though, it has meant he became first choice for Spain.

Houllier did agree a deal for C. Ronaldo, if I remember correctly the amount was about £3.6m, which was much less than United ended up paying as well. The only problem was that interference from the board blocked the deal as being 'too expensive'.}

Alonso fell out with Rafa the day his child was born, and Rafa decided to replace him, this was after the Arsenal offer.

The deal for Ronaldo was made with Lisbon, but Moyes/Parry refused to pay the wages asked for. At that time Anthony Le Tallac was earning more than Ronaldos advisors were asking.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - That was it, Parry, I couldn't think of his name earlier, it was him who blocked the move. As for Alonso, you are right, that was when Rafa forced him out, when Xabi went to see his child being born rather than play.}

Xabi had the last laugh, he's one of Madrids 1st name on the sheet, Barry plays for Everton and his kids a scouser :)

Agree0 Disagree0

And don't Chief that Gareth Barry saw sense at the 11th hour by turning you down and signing for City. He's now financially sound and will sign for us on a free in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - except he never turned us down, Villa did, Barry asked them to make the move happen actually. Oh and he was already financially sound, long before we moved for him.}

Well sooner or later as you get older your career has to take a downward spirral. Barry is no different I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he isn't good enough for City he isn't good enough for us. He is therefore probably at the right level club

Agree0 Disagree0

Well we'll have to agree to disagree on that one Ed001 as I remember it was the other way round

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - except that you are remembering it incorrectly and I have that direct from the man involved, I would think he would know better than you.}

Tbh at the beginning of deadline day was saying Barry would be a great player on loan and was gutted when he signed for Everton. Great player who solidifies a midfield massively

Agree0 Disagree0

And he can score goals as he proved today with a scorcher against Norwich. At least Roland is honest with himself. GB has been a tremendous loan signing for EFC this season and will sign permanently in the summer.
Enjoy watching him in the derby at the end of the month to see what could have been.
