Hi ED sky sports is saying we have a 22 million bid in for Real Madrid Denis cheryshev ant truth in it thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - It would make more sense than all of this other BS today. I don't know and would need to ask.}

11 Jul 2015 22:45:49
22million is excessive to say the least tho . Reckon figures are a it wrong there or in euros , and that's still steep

11 Jul 2015 22:52:03
Sky didn't say that. They just forwarded what the Sunday People reported.

11 Jul 2015 23:05:32
The report is from the people paper.

11 Jul 2015 23:20:50
Don't know much about him but if that is true that is a absolutely ridiculous fee for a 24 year old with one season of top flight football.

Agree4 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 23:22:36
Sky have not reported that, they may have referred to the Daily Express article which suggests we have, but the Express has linked us with numerous others this summer which haven't materialised.

Could anybody shed any light on this player? As I've never seen him play. And is there any need for him with Ibe, markovic, lallana etc etc

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 00:43:55
Ed002 called us turning to him in the event of Sterling leaving months ago to be fair, he's a great crosser of the ball; would make sense if we coupled his signing with Benteke's. I did think we'd replaced Sterling with Firmino but we continue to be linked with wingers.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 01:59:16
total disgrace lfc being held to ransom again, somebody

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 05:19:12
He is certainly an excellent player not needed at all.

12 Jul 2015 07:26:27
Unnecessary buy now we've signed Firmino.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 07:46:24
What about £40m + kolarov for sterling. Kolarov could play as a winger instead of spending 22m on cheryshev.

Agree0 Disagree3

12 Jul 2015 08:03:42
It is bing widely reported in Spain now. That could be re-reporting of our press I suppose.

For those asking what kind of player he is: he's an out and out left winger. Good pace, eye for goal. He's a direct kind of player - prefers the early cross than getting to the byeline. He'd need players with clever movement in the box (we have that) and ideally somebody that could get their head on something (which we don't yet).

How would he fit in? Well first is that he's left footed. That sounds daft but how many times last year did we have somebody there that always had to cut back in which made us very narrow. We have been missing a bit of balance.

He plays a different role to Firmino who is a more centralish left sided player - probably the second striker in my eyes.

If we bought DC I think we'd want to go with Flanno down the left when he's fit. With Moreno we'd end up over committed going forward.

Of al the names we've been linked with for a "Sterling replacement" this is the closest that I have seen that would actually be that.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 08:57:12
Thanks for that user013, just think we need to start off loading some attacking players before buying more

Hi ed 1 or 2.

I know this is the European stuff but who are bayern looking to replace bastian with?

Internally or out sourced?

No chance your 'we'll see' could be related to this?

Coutinho??

Benteke was left on the bench in todays friendly against Fulham in Portugal. Sherwood made 10 substitutions during the game. Benteke was an unused substitute.

Is a deal but done and dusted?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

11 Jul 2015 22:32:48
Means nothing really. Just protecting their assets till a deal can be done or if not, he is not injured and is ready to play for them.

Agree3 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 21:34:06
Its funny , last year when Alonso went to Bayern I saw endless posts saying "why haven't we tried to sign him" at the age of 32. We sign a player of the same standard 2 years younger and he's "finished". Bar a just paid £30m for a 29 year old Turan. No one bats an eyelid. Sour grapes. Deep down not one of you would rather have Milner than Schweinsteiger.

I don't think many of you are really happy with your transfers deep down, so kidding yourself over our makes you feel better. Quite amusing

Believable3 Unbelievable27

11 Jul 2015 21:58:32
Actually i'd much rather Milner thanks. Good of you to pop by!!

Agree15 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 22:16:54
Bayern aren't stupid . They know he's done . He's good for the odd game . He made how many starts for them last yr . No doubt he was a top top player . But your deluded if you think you are getting a peak player . Good signing . Image etc . But he's best yrs are behind him . I've no envy at all on this and that's been honest . Schneiderlin is a better get imo.

Agree10 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 22:20:22
I wouldn't have neither. One is like alike to Henderson and the other is slow and old.
UTD ll regret if they fail to bring Morgan Schniderline.

Agree3 Disagree2

11 Jul 2015 22:32:19
I would prefer Milner! Joe Alan had better stats last season

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 22:28:52
Different type of players. BS is (or was in his prime) a box to box midfielder. Could be a good buy for Utd, but very injury prone too. Although I really don't care who you buy tbh. I only concentrate on Liverpools players.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 22:39:24
Nonesense, Stand! Age is not the issue. Schweini has lost two steps and if Alonso who is older can keep him out of the team then that tells you what you need to know. Dragging other players into this is a weak attempt at deflection. I'm not talking about Turan, Milner or whoever else. I'm talking about Schweini, a great player who I have watched and loved since his debut in 2002 but who is no longer the player he used to be and until proven otherwise, looks like a weird signing. Try to stay on topic next time you post.

Agree3 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 22:46:13
Alonso has never relied on pace and physicality as much as the swine who is a tough box to box player. Alonso's biggest strength is his passing range which survives age a lot better.

Agree4 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 23:26:35
Why are United, a team with untold riches buying a player who is in the twilight of his career? Why are Munich letting him go if he is still that good? Why has his impact over the past few seasons dwindled, kept out of the team by an older Alonso? These are the questions you should be asking.

Agree5 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 23:41:41
The fact he only started 20 odd games last season is largely down to injury. Just last year he was the best player in the World Cup final by a country mile. Nobody said were getting him at his peak, so that's irrelevant. But your foolish if you don't think he will improve our side for 3 years or so! Why didn't Milner start for city, or for England?? Why aren't you asking yourself that?

As for stats , we could be here all day regarding stats. Floored way of comparing, stats can make anyone look good! Example with Allen. He probably made twice the tackles schweiny did last season. But the reason for that is bayern have the ball for 70 mins per game! Therefore less tackles to make.

Hopefully Schneiderlin follows now. If he does I think we'll challenge for the title

Agree2 Disagree6

11 Jul 2015 23:48:33
BS still has a lot left. I think BM are just clearing house of the older players to bring some of the new faces through. They have to start building for the future and BS will be looking for an extensive contract at 30 which they may not be willing to offer if in 2 years he's playing less.It seems to make sense to move him on now you have alonso there with another year left to help integrate new player and youth.
I think Bayern expect a lot from Scholl and Kurt ,though they are still young. They also have Douglas Costa returning and purchased Kimmich. I don't know if they are linked with any one,but there midfield seems to be in abundance add to that reported disheartening of goetze at lack of game time.

All just opinion though

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 00:08:47
Without doubt an excellent player but never played in a different league and seeing less game time in a league with only 34 league games.

Every transfer is a risk - but I'd prefer Milner; unless Alonso is available again!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 00:48:46
It's a really stupid move from Schweinsteiger's perspective. Adapting to a new league, new country. At his age. I love the guy as a player, but I agree with the majority of posters here. As for Alonso, he's on a different planet and severely underrated by a lot of people. I haven't seen a more accomplished CM and I've spent my whole life watching Steven Gerrard.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 03:35:01
He started how many ?? 20 appearances . Carrick had more minutes . Milner started about 30 games . The German will sit deep at Utd . He's legs are done for b2b . Remember he's legs are gone! And he gets away with it at Bayern and Germany . As the unit looks great . Even boateng looked great . He will have some good games no doubt but Bayern are letting him go ! Because they can't guarantee him a game as he doesn't fit their pressing game as we all saw last season

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Jul 2015 04:05:56
BS can be a good fit as Deep Lying Playmaker,Its good move if he is played along with a defensive midfielder who breaks up the play. Also he will provide required experience for the team in champions league. At the same time Milner will be as good as he was for Aston Villa when played centrally. So both are decent signings from the clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 05:28:09
Stand-united

You're rite you can't really look at stats but the injuries he's had and the less game time he gets does make you wonder.

I think most people wanted Alonso back for sentimental reasons had he never played for us before then you may not see his name mentioned so much on these pages.

The schweinsteiger v Milner though is a tough one. Milner was free and stays pretty much injury free.

Bastian a couple of years ago no doubt pisses all over Milner but going off last year there's a lot of question marks over him.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2015 07:24:09
Without being biased I would stick with Ed01, Milner was certainly not needed and it's a joke to offer him 150k.
I would have thrown that wage to Lacazzate who would win us the league. With Milner coming in Can will either get rotten on the bench or at the back.

And what's this he snubbed 165k at city? Seriously? Y did he not join Arsenal then? No one apart from Liverpool would offer him150k at 30 years old.

Agree0 Disagree6

And if you have time, could you let my lotto numbers come up too.

Pretty obvious isn't it? Arsenal and ManU were much closer to City and Chelsea towards the end of last season anyway. When you look at some of their signings, Vidal, Schwistienger and the likes, they open a big gap, quite unbridgebale, from us and Spurs.

Evening all,

Been thinking about this one for a while now.

Gary Medel & Eduardo Vargas in and shut the door.

Two good players IMO but can they cut it at Liverpool?

Are they good value (if available)?

Is Medel really needed if Lucas stays?

Thoughts?

Cheers

Believable4 Unbelievable2

11 Jul 2015 20:45:05
Gary Medel is a specialist in the DM position whereas Lucas Leiva came to Anfield as a CAM and has grown into the role over the years.
Medel shades it but it's probably a non-question as we won't be attractive enough.
I've got absolutely no problem with keeping Lucas because his attitude is first-class and our results are better when he plays.
However, Medel would be ideal if Lucas phones in sick !!

Agree4 Disagree2

11 Jul 2015 20:54:29
They ain't signing so what you are saying is pure conjecture. May as well ask what the story will be should we sign Ronaldo and Messi.

Apologies Seano, from reading the posts i assumed pure conjecture was acceptable here.

I agree with your thoughts AnfieldPete.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 21:24:50
We're not signing him.

But he did join Cardiff so don't worry about the 'were not attractive enough'

We might actually be the biggest club he would of played for aswel, in terms of trophies :)

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 22:22:51
Someone has to elaborate y do you need both Lucas and medal in the same team.
Keep a player because he has a good attitude?

Agree0 Disagree2

11 Jul 2015 22:50:23
Inter is a mess right now but still ably to sign decent players so the question of being attractive is a subjective one because Inter fans think they're more attractive than us and we think the same compared to them hence, a stalemate

I hope things are going well at Airbus and with CFM, honestly I don't know much of what's going on currently as you can imagine I have other things keeping me very busy nowadays :-). Just wanted to say hi and show off our newest addition to our family!

Kind regards,

We're definitely bigger than inter :)

In there own country something like 70% support juventus

Of course there fans think there bigger, we get that here aswel with the Liverpool b team.

But we are a much much bigger club than inter and would therefore be medels biggest club he had played for :)

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 19:07:54
Hi eds, quick question. Do you think our transfers are a hindrance to our youth development? For instance, with milner signing and Henderson the captain, Can will be forced down the pecking order. Similarly, with the signing of firmino and lallana, Ibe and markovic have been pushed down. So my question is, do you see our transfer policy as a hindrance to our youth, and at what age (obviously varies) should a player expect to be in the first team regularly? I would argue sterling was too young.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Yes, obviously there is an impact on players coming through with the large number of players Liverpool has been buying in recent seasons. I cannot answer the age question.}

11 Jul 2015 18:40:08
So Delph turns down Man City, is this the dawn of English footballers realising it's better for their careers to play regularly rather then sitting on the bench?

Hi Eds, I notice that when explaining about potential targets the term significant issues crop up, whilst I know you can't go into specifics (I have seen the sort of feed back this would likely get) does this mainly relate to possible medical or injury issues or personal issues surrounding the player/their agents and the people around them? Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - it varies - might be contract terms, wages, the request for a plane to bring 20 friends and family from Brazil to attend all home games (and hotels, meals, tickets etc.) - but typically not injuries - that comes out of medicals.}

IrishRed- how many times have you watched him over the past season? He's slowed down incredibly which for a battling midfielder box to box like he was is never a good sign a la Steven Gerrard. Him and Alonso didn't work together so no guarentee him and Carrick will.

He's still a top player and at the price were getting him for, a very good move for us. We haven't had a leader since Keane , and with his experience and leader ship, World Cup winning captain etc he will be a great addition for us. Players like him are infectious and raise the game of others around him. If we can add Schneiderlin too, along with Depay who looks special, a top CB and maybe a forward I'd say we're well placed to challenge

Schweini can do similar damage done by Stevie in 2013-14.And defensively he is good. But anyways we have the surprise package in Milner.

11 Jul 2015 16:59:02
He has been poor for bayern the last 18 months. I know he's had injuries and what not but I mean he seemed off pace on a good few occasions last year in a dominant bayern side who don't have to play at a consistently high tempo like man u will. Still technically brilliant and very intelligent but I don't think it's the player they needed. I don't think he will improve them to any great effect over the course of the season. Unrelated but if they did get muller now that would be a signing. he's a truly fantastic player!

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 16:59:04
He certainly is no where near the player he used to be. I don't think he will have the impact that he had in years gone by. He obviously thinks he will get more game time than at Munich but i wouldn't be too concerned if he was in the United team and Liverpool were against them.

11 Jul 2015 17:00:41
Ed002 has also commented on Depay not being ready for a top PL just yet so i wouldn't be hanging all my hopes on him just yet!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is far from a recent comment but van Gaal has already alluded to the differences in the leagues and he will need to be bedded in.}

11 Jul 2015 17:06:21
Not really sure why they've signed him. As a previous poster has already said, he was always a great box to box midfielder. Despite not being blessed with pace, he had incredible power and stamina. He's also incredibly gifted in terms of technical ability. His power and energy has been fading for a few seasons now though. He'll end up being shoe horned into a holding role like Gerrard was or he'll play second fiddle to Mata in a more advanced position.

A really pointless signing in my opinion. He isn't even a leader on the pitch. I don't remember him ever captaining a team and he isn't very vocal. He's experienced and knows Van Gaal but I think United have made a costly mistake here as his wages will no doubt be high. Looks like another "name" signing like Falcao in order to clutch at their status as a top European club.

Agree3 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 17:20:28

Nonsense, Stand! Scweini is on his last legs and is no longer the player he used to be. Great player no doubt but his time has gone. Alonso is older and still better than him based on last year so your attempt to make his signing look like a masterstroke is laughable. Until proven wrong, your club signed a has-been.

Agree1 Disagree2

11 Jul 2015 17:43:58

Ed you always said as soon as you mention a player we never sign them, I think you just need to know it takes two years to kick in. I'm looking forward to begovic next summer (after a boring year at chelsea)

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 16:50:27
Would have loved begovic but I have my doubts now. What player in his prime moves to 100% sit on the bench? If Cech can't displace him then i don't fancy begovic's chances . Yes he'll win some medals but would have made about the same contrition as I have.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Begovic is going to Chelsea as a number 2 to Courtois, not to try to displace him. He knows that and he knows that his opportunities will be limited to perhaps the League Cup games and injuries, and perhaps a period of rest or two. Liverpool's interest was in a goalkeeper to replace the Brendaned Brad Jones who they paid off - and Bogdan has been signed for that role. Neither Mignolet or Cech were options as the club had no interest in them.}

11 Jul 2015 12:38:39
Sterling included in Tour Squad , read into that what you want , but I reckon he's going nowhere, Man City will not buckle to the £50 mil price tag and quite frankly why should they? he is clearly trouble and maybe they have learned their lessons from when Balo was with them

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 17:43:23
No they won't because they're not stupid. in this day and age, you can't do that or you and the club you own will be the butt of all the jokes in the media due to the bad PR you'll be getting each day. They will sell and that will be that. They just want the right price for it but should be careful not to be too greedy or well be stuck with him for sure

Believable6 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2015 11:07:08
It makes little sense to let him "rot in the reserves" though his behavior has been appalling. I think the owners are very strong, we have seen in the past how they will not be persuaded by threats and I think eventually, he will leave this summer after Man City meet the requirements.

Rot in the reserves? and then what? LFC will miss out on a lot of money, and in the end it will backfire - Anything above £35M for a decent player with a terrible attitude is a joke. If the people who are responsible for the deal doesn´t make sure it goes through then LFC will be considered a laughingstock, and more debt would be added if we are in for Benteke. To be honest I´m surprised that City even want such a spoiled brat, and I´m even more surprised that they are willing to pay more than £35M. One thing is sure, he needs to be shipped out this summer no matter what. If we have to take a player + cash then fine, as long as Sterling leaves.

11 Jul 2015 11:48:03

The idea of letting a £40/50 million player "rot in the reserves" and letting his contract run down is plain daft. What if it was your investment? Would you let it go to waste? I think not!

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 14:35:53
Irish the investment was 500k, they will get much more than this at a tribunal. Hence the willingness to make a statement and let him sit in the 21s for 2 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is simply not the case and Liverpool will not leave him in the reserves for 2 years.}

11 Jul 2015 15:11:36
Where are you getting losing out on £35-40million from, he cost us 500k and his contract is a relatively modest 30k a week, I'd be prepared to let him rot and stall his career at the cost of a few million, we've lost fortunes on players by overpaying then having to sell low just to get rid over the last few years, far more than it would cost to let the little runt rot.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It won't work like that Waro.}

11 Jul 2015 16:07:50
Man City have offered circa £40 million for him. Therefore it would be a loss of £40 million to let him rot. Obviously Qpr would be ecstatic if he sat in the reserves.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If he is sold for £40M Liverpool will get less than £30M. Leaving him in the reserves for two years is not an option.}

11 Jul 2015 16:54:29
I agree ed002

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 16:56:38

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Exactly - it needs resolving this summer. He signs a new deal and changes agent, or goes. If that doesn't happen and they try for a few months in the reserves, they know what will happen on December 21, 2015.}

11 Jul 2015 17:22:38
They have offered £40million but the owners want £50million, so if we don't sell and the owner is as good as his word ( if he has indeed said it ,)and he stays then we will lose his initial transfer fee plus the remaining 2 years in wages if he let him rot with the kids, how can we lose what we haven't received I.e. £40million?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 17:57:02
Spot on, Essex and Fuzz! Thank God many on here don't make the business decisions at the club because we'd be worse off than we already are. FSG ain't stupid and all they are doing is staking out their position and posturing in the media. It's an American thing. Every man and his dog knows he will be sold and that rotting in the reserves is just plain daft and dumb from a business perspective and the PR distraction and disaster would be unbearable. He'll be sold at the right time and the right price and we can all move afterwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 18:37:32
You're probably right Ed002.
But who would have predicted how the Suarez situations ended, when the predictable thing would have been for Liverpool to have sold him the season before as was thought.
If it went to a Webster Ruling, it is going to get very messy. I don't know how legal costs are apportioned, and I don't know how Liverpool / FSG would claim "harm" or whatever the term is to claim compensation. But Mr Ward's outburst to the Evening Standard could be brought into it, and all manner of to-ing and fro-ing may take place. Are Webster Rulings final, is there an appeal process to an unhappy party ?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool would be well aware that if he had been put in to the reserves and kept out of the first team when it is invoked, then they would be on difficult ground when making any significant claim. I still do not expect this to happen, but it would not be out of the question if the circumstances were as proposed by Twitter or wherever this has come from.}

11 Jul 2015 19:51:13
I don't expect it to happen either Ed.

Hi eds and reds,
I've seen a lot of posters on here say they'd like skrtel gone and an Ilori and Sakho partnership, but I feel this would be putting massive pressure on a young player for him to be first choice when he's never even played a game for the club, and hasn't really had s proper run of games due to injuries. Maybe he has been promised game time as a third CB like Can was last year? Maybe this role would suit him better until he finds a better understanding with his team mates? Not looking for an argument just giving an opinion. Ps whys everyone so disrespectful towards skrtel?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Skrtel has been our most consistent defender for the past four seasons - bar none. It pains me that people don't realise this. The only other player who came close to him for consistency was Flanno but sadly he has been plagued by injury recently.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 12:22:56
Love the guy but you can't say we've formed a solid CB partnership since Agger left. I reckon we need to give Skrtel/Sakho a proper shot or Lovren/Sakho. I think lllori/Sakho would be interesting but Illori needs to be introduced gradually IMO to build experience and confidence.

Agree2 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 12:41:43
Essexred what makes you think Ilori is head and shoulders above skrtel? I'm not a big fan of Skrtels ability but surely you wouldn't put a young player who's never played a game for the club or had a run of games due to injuries in from of him for selection? Maybe once he's bedded in but surely not now. I just don't understand this hate towards him, yeah he's not the best but he's certainly a starter out of the CBs we have. Being as lovren and sakho are both left sided.

Let sterling go to city. If he doest wanna play for our club, let him go. I don't wish anything bad on the guy. Just an example of someone badly advised and no loyaly to a club who will offer him a lot more for his development aswell as great pay.
. I can see his game time been limited with city compared to the game time with us, his delvepment will suffer as he is far far from been any sort of the complete player and because of that could it turn out to be another Scott sinclair/ jack Rodwell scenario. Will see him in two or three yrs playing for a Sunderland or Swansea.

As a United fan I quite like Sterling but he is nowhere near the finished article. If City are going to stump up the best part of £45M you should bite their hand off. Clearly his agent is bad news and he is being badly advised but I think going to a local club won't help him either. City have a track record of buying young English players and then leaving them in the reserves and ruining their careers.

If reports are to be believed that Man City have offered 44 Million for Sterling and 120 large a week to Delph then the world has gone utterly insane. There has to be some sort of equilibrium introduced into the equation, football cannot sustain this type of idiocy! What message does this send out that abject mediocrity (Delph) and holding your employers to ransom (Sterling) will be rewarded ten lifetimes of financial reward. Something must be done about this wrecking ball. We are all to blame its not just the Arab's etc. We give Murdoch ridiculous fees in exchange for a bit of high tech gadgetry, live games and Monday Night Football. We give the clubs what they want in match fees etc. We aren't the victims were the sinners! Enough I say and let's take football back!!!! In other news I'm warming to the idea of Benteke. Yes I said it.

Believable15 Unbelievable0

Doesn't matter if you rate him or not, Delph was clearly Villas stand out player and has been in good form. He is an England international and approaching his peak years. His cheap buyout is around half his value, so even with those wages City got a deal.

Sterling although I now hate him and find him, his agent and his actions vile, is doing what many do to get moves just a lot more public. Players have done the same to move to us, as recent as last season.

By the time you've read this post City's owner has earned enough to cover both transfers.

Hi all. does anyone agree. Why is the defence not been seriously looked at. Two seasons ago we had sturridge and suarez scoring for fun. Looking back on games it was a " u score, we score type of thing "we conceded but still scored. all is wellas we get three points. Then last season we lose suarez ( Barcalona) and sturridge (injury). Lose the goals but still conceed. I know we brought in lovern who I like but hasn't worked out, ( although I hope he does come good). But seriously skrtel is not up to it and sakho, although a decent tackle in him. He makes my heart skip a beat when he's on the ball. Does he suit the ( bringing the ball out from the back style br likes to play) then there's kolo who's heart is In the right place but not the defender he was. apologies on the rant but I'd like to see us look at the defence side of things instead of buying a million midfielders. I hope I'm wrong and lovern steps up this season and forms a serious partnership with sakho or skrtel. Even the boy illori if br gives him a chance. Cheers guys. Ynwa

You got it wrong about Sakho.Of all the defenders he is the one capable to play from the back.We need a def mid to shield the defence also provide an outlet option to the defenders, which we lacked last season.

Indian is absolutely right in my view , we last played a true DM in 2010 ( not someone just filling in )and unless we recruit one this summer we will ship another 50-odd goals next season .

luke123,fully agree with what your saying but the proof of the pudding is in the eating,BR has not got a clue about defending that's why most of his players are attack minded, the coaches are all attack minded,BR believe's that we don't need a DM and if we keep the ball and move it around the opposition can't hurt you.but somewhere in the game the opposition will have a ten minute period were they can hurt you, there' no guarantee that a DM would stop the goals going, but they would break up the play before the attacks begin, some of are defenders couldn't break wind. you would of thought BR being a BYT would of known this. imposter.

The same Gerrard who was outstanding picking up Suarez and Sturridge when we played the diamond.
Lucas would never replicate half of what Gerard is offensively in that position.

Shanek

I am sorry but you don't get the actual point.
If you play a true DM like Matic, Busquets or Lucas you need a ball playing creative mid along with them to dictate.
We tried this with Allen and was a disaster. Who else would you want us to partner?
The reason Gerrard was deployed at the pivotal role was due to the excellent range of passing abilities he possess.

We don't have an Alonso and exactly the club looking at Koviacic. We don't have a Xavi, Pjanic, Fabrigas so we simply cannot play 2 men midfield.

Henderson like Vidal is a B2B player whether you like it or not.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 11:07:53
Euro we picked up far more points with Lucas playing in the DM role than we did with gerrard. So whatever you think Gerrard was doing offensively it wasn't as good as what Lucas was doing defensively. The few games we lost when Lucas played were mainly the ones when he wasn't played in the DM role.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Jul 2015 23:09:45
SG is an AM and Lucas is a DM so comparing them in the offensive category is a poor excuse at bashing Lucas hence, your point makes no sense, Boom.

11 Jul 2015 02:08:21
RE footballers off field behaviour- I completely agree with everything said and think some of them are incredibly ungrateful. However my point is that if clubs take a lenient stance we can't sit back and impose some code of honour on players. Put off field responsibilities in contractual terms and then we can objectively hold players to account - if a team won the league with x games to go and were too busy celebrating to prepare for their next game would we care?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - why can't we expect them to act like professional athletes just because the club do not enforce tough strictures on them? Players on the continent do it without needing the club to nanny them like they are babies, why are British players such imbeciles?}

11 Jul 2015 07:44:40
I don't think players should drink after games but they should go out together for a meal or similar! Especially playing local football it's a good bonding session, you have a laugh about the match, and discuss what went wrong in a light hearted way. Kind of like one of the eds saying about o Driscoll wanting players to think for themselves, this will help them address problems without coaches.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 09:12:45

I agree, we have too many (not all that good I might add) centre backs - same situation in midfield - we need to sell.

Unfortunately while I think this summer we have made some decent acquisitions we still have a lot of mediocrity throughout the squad and generally have too many players.

11 Jul 2015 07:38:01
Is it not Jones who has gone on loan to Blackpool for a year?

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 09:47:52
Couple of flaws in your pointless post.

Gomez @ Jones aren't first team players
Wisdom is a right back
As Ed02 has said we've been trying to sell Ilori and if he stays then its likely we'll look for a PL loan so he learns in someone elses team not ours
We have reduced the number of senior CBs by selling Coates
We have shipped out two RBs and signed one better than both of the departees combined

So. we have just four senior CBs
And two better options at RB than last season

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Gomez has said he has been told he is in the first team squad. Liverpool have been unable to sell Ilori and he has been told he will be playing (to some extent or other). Coates was not at Liverpool so it makes no difference. Liverpool remain overrun with defenders.

Those that will suffer are those coming through the ranks.}

11 Jul 2015 10:03:05
Behave, there are three established centre backs listed there. The others need to compete.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 10:21:10
I think Gomez may well be in the first team squad at the start of the season but only because of the injury to Flanagan.

He may get a run out in the Carling Cup and a few bench spots in the Europa but I suspect he will be out on loan come January.

There's no way Ilori is close to a regular first team spot and if the plan was to give him a proper go then explain the Toure & Skrtel deals? His only chance would therefore be a surprise sale of Lovren (yes please) or Sakho.

Coates is relevant because the post was about stockpiling CBs and his sale has reduced the number under contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So the club lied to him then.}

11 Jul 2015 10:35:12

I'm on record saying Skrtel isn't my favourite defender.

My point is none of the others are any better and how you can be so sure about Ilori being more suitable is baffling.

Just admit it's wishful thinking because there's no evidence to back up what you say.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2015 18:10:07
Boom, neither is there evidence that Skrtel is better than all of them because he possesses all the faults the others don't possess even, Lovren. And yes, Toure, Sahko, and Ilori are all better than him and we have seen how good Lovren can be at Southampton while we have seen that for the past two yrs, Skrtel is getting worse and the fact that he plays every game means NOTHING because the guy playing him knows SOD ALL about coaching a defence.

Long time reader.
There are 3 posibilties on the horizon.
Sterling leaves £40m+.
Liverpool football club make a stance and say he goes on our terms or not at all and maybe keep a unhappy player.
Or Raheem backs down and realises the situation he is in and we all come to a amicble agreement.
Either way its a new start for us as a team, personalities in the dressing room instead of guvnors.
Fresh ideas in the back room.
Hopefully to bring players like llori and cann into the fold and reach their potential.
A resolution needs to be met in my eyes within 5 days and a striker signed within 8 days.
Business done and bring on Stoke and let's see if the team assembled has got the pride, determination and passion to smash a voodoo.
