Min of 25mil for Welsh Pirlo.

12 Jul 2016 10:22:12
Hey hey Pirlo is the Italian Allen, not the other way round.

Hi Eds and reds long time reader first time poster here. Firstly I just want to say great work on the site I'm on it daily it's just that addictive. Second a question for Ed002 in particular. I have seen over and over again the growing popularity of eSports and football teams buying eSports teams/ players. I think Valencia have acquired a Hearthstone team, Schalke 04 have a league of legends team and there are rumours of Man U buying one as well. So my question is this, are Liverpool interested in any eSports teams or interested about going into that market? And more generally, do you see eSports to make a move into a more mainstream environment in the future? Thanks again for all your hard work.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Truly, I have no idea what that is. Sorry.}

11 Jul 2016 23:11:45
The betting company I work for has made betting available on Esports. We've seen incoming bets rise by thousands of pounds monthly. It's huge, prize money for these events can go up to $12 Million. We've seen some evets fill 40 to 80k stadia. Yes just to watch people play video games. Apparently talks are that they want to make it an Olympic event. Online gaming has already exploded in Japan it will just keep getting bigger and sponsorship is becoming more lucrative for Esports players.

11 Jul 2016 23:44:03
World is going officially mad.

12 Jul 2016 01:37:47
What on earth is esports?

{Ed007's Note - I think it's a new way of playing video games...... and a new way of getting young kids and drunken/stoned lads to part with their hard earned coinage no doubt.}

12 Jul 2016 03:28:29
Jose Enrique should be our esports player as he won the EA Sports FIFA tournament. I doubt that Instagram would allow him to leave them though as he has spent more time using their service over the last 18 months.

11 Jul 2016 23:06:53
Well there you go. After years of constant questions, a million times over someone has eventually broken Ed002! He has no idea! i'm stunned!

12 Jul 2016 08:50:44
Ed007 you should probably not judge so soon.

12 Jul 2016 08:57:45
Esports is becoming more and more affluent and is now a top destination for investment. I believe NBA / Premier league players are all being advised to invest in the Esport scene because it is becoming so huge. It has already bypassed viewership numbers of the NBA finals, World series (baseball) and college football in the states - and that is all over the lifespan of about 3 years of becoming a serious industry.

Valencia and Shalke04 are just a couple teams that are starting to test the waters.

12 Jul 2016 11:15:09
Why on earth would anybody want to watch that?

11 Jul 2016 21:16:29
So Southampton have signed Bayern wonderkid Pierre-Emile Hojberg, no doubt another massive pay day at the end of next season.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

12 Jul 2016 03:01:36
He'll have a similar impact as Emre Can. Will soon make a big impression and then it's a wrap. 20-30mill easy in the next few seasons.

13 Jul 2016 00:23:03
We will buy him off them soon : (

11 Jul 2016 20:31:25
Ed001

Djimi Traore or Ally Cissokho?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - hahaha Djimi for the Cruyff turn....}

11 Jul 2016 20:40:00
Lol. That Cruyff turn with the ball into his own net in that cup game. I can't remember who it was against though.

{Ed001's Note - I can't remember either now, but what a genius! Bless him.}

11 Jul 2016 20:43:15
Burnley.

11 Jul 2016 20:44:01
Burnley away.

11 Jul 2016 20:44:56
Was it Burnley?

11 Jul 2016 20:52:43
Lol I think it was Burnley chaps yes. To be fair I think he did ok in the CL final in 2005?

11 Jul 2016 21:06:42
That was the "Traore turn" or the "Djimi jig" 😄.

11 Jul 2016 21:40:57
Check out his belter for seattle sounders!

Crooky.

11 Jul 2016 21:42:15
I can remember that so vividly. Even the horrible yellow and black away kit we had that season.

11 Jul 2016 22:29:08
I forgive him all. didn't he have a clearance off the line in Istanbul.

11 Jul 2016 22:41:01
I believe his full title is 'Champions League Winner Djimi Traore'.

11 Jul 2016 23:45:15
The best bit about the champions league winner Djimi Traore is that he's so well spoken.

12 Jul 2016 00:29:02
Burnley Away in the cup. 3rd round. Knocked out. 1-0 loss.

11 Jul 2016 21:44:00
Right ed I have one for you emile heskey or Dirk kuyt?

{Ed001's Note - Emile is a really nice guy but Kuyt's workrate was insane, has to be Kuyt.}

12 Jul 2016 06:49:03
Thorben Piechnik or Nicky Tanner?

{Ed001's Note - Tanner.}

13 Jul 2016 00:25:34
Kate Upton or Mila Kunis. ;) lmfao.

11 Jul 2016 20:24:21
I've got a feeling Marco grujic is going to be special.

Believable16 Unbelievable2

11 Jul 2016 20:54:22
Lucky soz mate I can't say I know too much about him, what type of player is he? Is his timing of being in the right place at the right time as midfield is the toughest position to play?

12 Jul 2016 08:39:36
Hi

I follow as much I can Red Star Belgrade and Serbian fotboll even if I live in Sweden. He is a strong and tall player and and likes to diktate the midfield. He played for the national team latest friendley and did ok he is not the fastest player but good positionel sense. He was part of the under 20 national team that beat Brazil in the world cup final 2015 and if I remember correctly he was really good and of course rest of the team as they won it. So big hopes for him hope ge gets a run in the team.

11 Jul 2016 20:02:42
Hi Eds,
Just wondering if you know anything about Taiwo Awoniyi since I can't seem to find anything about him. I'm by no means expecting him to be starting next season after he was brought on the back of one good tournament, but do you have any idea of his current status. Is he training with LFC? Will he go out on loan? Has Klopp seen/ like him? Or is his potential involvement in the Olympics putting things on hold for a while?
Thanks!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - I don't know sorry, I will have to ask for you.}

11 Jul 2016 21:25:05
He will be going on loan again as he won't qualify for a work permit, along with Allan.

11 Jul 2016 19:52:39
Hey eds, what's the story with that kid Ejaria who played the first 45 of the friendly the other day. imo his desire to keep the ball was strong, he did good and holding his passes and waiting for the right space.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure what you mean? He is a player we picked up from Arsenal a couple of years ago, but that is about all I know of him to be honest. He has never really stood out before.}

11 Jul 2016 20:02:23
He looked like he had potential, let's hope he continues. Didn't know we got him from them thanks a lot for the reply.

11 Jul 2016 20:03:34
I agree with 001 he's been entirely average in the u18s in the 2 years he's been here since being let go by Arsenal. He had a VERY good 45 in that friendly though I was very impressed.

11 Jul 2016 20:03:53
Could be the Harry Kane to us 😉
He never stood out at youth level.

11 Jul 2016 21:26:00
He will be playing for the U21s next season, mostly in centre midfield I would think.

11 Jul 2016 19:37:35
Question of the decade for you Ed001. Messi or Ronaldo?

- Krishna.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - Messi is more of a team player, which makes him better for me. Not by much though.}

11 Jul 2016 19:50:12
The bigger question is Maradona or Pele.

For me Pele was the greatest footballer.

Maradona was a magician but Pele was the king.

{Ed001's Note - Pele was before my time.}

11 Jul 2016 19:55:22
I guess it depends where your club is in terms of completed. If u have a somewhat blank canvas to work with, Messi all day. Build the team around him and u win games.

Ronaldo is more of a thoroughbred u add to an already strong and complete team and he will win u games.

Just like ed says, it's close but none are near Marradona, Best, Cruyff or Dalglish etc for me.
As ed says further down put them players on the pitches these days and it would be scary.

11 Jul 2016 20:45:51
Zidane for me never seemed to get out of first gear buetiful footballer who controlled the tempo of matches like a symphonist of the midfield balance aggression final ball awesome footballer.

11 Jul 2016 21:29:41
Messi's on a different planet to ronaldo.

11 Jul 2016 19:19:33
I looked it up but no one really gave an answer that I could see. Does any one or Eds know how Joe Gomez is getting on? Is he fit enough for team selection?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - I did post it, but Square Tomato is the man who knows best in this instance. Might be worth searching his name to find updates.}

11 Jul 2016 18:29:47
Hi, not posted in a long time but read daily! Hearing that Danny Ward has signed a new 5 year deal but is going on loan to Huddersfield. would that signify that we will look to get rid of migs next season seems we've signed Karius?

Also, while we're on GKs is there any possibility that anyone is interested in bogdan?!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

11 Jul 2016 21:27:00
Wigan were interested in Bogdan I believe.

11 Jul 2016 18:17:59
So Palace offer £31m for Benteke and Bournmouth offer £15m for Ibe. What on earth is the hold up!? MOVE ON! Before you mess up the deal.!

Believable12 Unbelievable2

11 Jul 2016 19:05:54
I've seen nothing of a second firm offer for Benteke - all paper talk isn't it?

11 Jul 2016 19:22:08
I understood a 2nd formal offer had come in but heard nothing since. I guess they are still trying to agree wages etc.

12 Jul 2016 19:41:12
Benteke`s agent has said no offers have come in for him but then again, the agent is supposed to say that if a deal is in the pipeline.

11 Jul 2016 17:59:18
Apparently we are after Alex Manninger! Lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

11 Jul 2016 19:01:18
He is training with us and may well become our third choice goalie.

11 Jul 2016 19:47:09
Blimey, he's older than me isn't he 😄.

11 Jul 2016 19:53:48
No Ronald I doubt it.

11 Jul 2016 20:08:46
Seriously. I'd very happily move up to Liverpool and train as there 3rd keeper for a fraction of the cost of Manninger.
Never going to be the worst signing under Klopps reign.
Caulker had his uses 😂.

11 Jul 2016 21:30:01
I think there is no need for a player who will likely play not part next season. This is where we could use the academy and use Shamal George (who will be first choice for the U21s next season) as our third choice if needed.

I suspect the scrapping of the emergency loan system (and hence ruling out the return of Ward and Fulton atleast until January) is a reason for this strange interest in Manninger.

11 Jul 2016 22:21:32
Doesn't make any sense!

11 Jul 2016 22:44:06
Or possibly, considering age, there is a player/ coaching element involved?

11 Jul 2016 16:13:50
Alrite eds what's actually happening regards to that lad from udinese? Lielinski?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

11 Jul 2016 16:50:12
The basics are that there's no deal as we've messed Udinese around too much and as such it's a non starter.

11 Jul 2016 16:17:38
Hi Eds
With all the crap having us linked with everyone who has ever kicked a football what is the story with our search for a full back will Chilwell be fit to pass a medical before the season starts or the window shuts or will we look elsewhere
Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Try searching or reading the posts.}

11 Jul 2016 16:08:16
Hey Eds and Reds,

With the news that goalkeeper Danny Ward has completed a season-long loan deal to Huddersfield Town, I just thought I'd let you all know that I commentate on Huddersfield Town home matches and therefore I will be able to keep you all updated on his form and progress at the Championship club!

Under David Wagner, Town are a club on the up and this is, in my view, a positive move for Ward's development! He is one of two senior GKs signed by Wagner this summer but hopefully he can stake his claim as No1 choice for the Terriers!

Good luck to Danny, and here's to an exciting new football season!

I'd also like to say to the Eds, keep up all the hard work you put into the site - it is greatly appreciated and this site has become an absolutely superb forum for we Liverpool fans to discuss our club!

Believable11 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Thanks Reid - we will appreciate updates.}

11 Jul 2016 16:32:22
Hi Reid, great to hear buddy.

Side note: Could you perhaps give us your opinion on Chilwell? You are probably the only person who can legitimately claim to have watched all of his games in the Championship for Town.

11 Jul 2016 17:27:21
Cheers Reid. I look forward to reading the updates.

11 Jul 2016 17:35:32
No problem MK mate, I have given it in the past but I don't mind giving it another post! Hopefully he does sign as it's taking longer than a number of our other deals seem to have done!

His loan spell at Town last season saw him play only 8 times, including substitute appearances as he was rotated with Jason Davidson for the Terriers.

In this time, Chilwell impressed me! Huddersfield were a far better side with him in the team than they were when Davidson played instead.

Defensively, he was rarely caught out of position - a rarity in a modern day full back. He tended to arrive forward later than many players in his position seem to nowadays but that may have been because when he arrived at Huddersfield, so too has manager David Wagner, so he had not full implemented his attacking, pressing style.

On the times he did venture forward however, he was well involved in Town attacks! He created chances and was neat and tidy in possession. Whilst the Premier League is a different kettle of fish to the Championship, his calmness on the ball was well above his years.

No goals or assists in his short time in Yorkshire, but I wouldn't judge that too much as he is a defender first and foremost!

He's not afraid of a challenge and seemed to work well with his teammates despite not being at the club too long!

Personally, I rate him very highly. If media reports are to be believed, Leicester City want £10m for him but that is a price well worth playing for a player of his talents! For me, he's a future England left back, and whilst that doesn't say much after our Euro 2016 exploits, I am saying that with the opinion that he will become a better player than Man Utd's Luke Shaw in that position, I honestly believe that!

As the Eds have previously said, the Leicester coaches rate him highly and I agree with them - I think he'd be a top addition for Liverpool judging from his play at Huddersfield Town!

Hope that helps MK!

11 Jul 2016 18:16:41
You mean from the 3 YouTube clips you've watched him in, you can't tell us how good his defending is, how good his crossing is, how good his positioning is and generally how much of a world class full back he is MK.? ;)

11 Jul 2016 18:29:02
Thank you Reid much appreciated. I shall nominate you poster of the week!

11 Jul 2016 19:30:19
Good to hear Reid. let's hope Heddersfield have a great season.

11 Jul 2016 19:37:01
smplfc you've raised a point that I didn't in my Chilwell post - his crossing!

That would be because Town's team and style doesn't suit crosses too much - Wagner played 5'6" Makhi Wells as a lone striker in most games so Chilwell rarely got a decent opportunity to cross so I can't particular say how good he is at it!

And thanks Higgins! Much appreciated! Poster of the week is quite the honourable award on this site I understand!

11 Jul 2016 21:38:16
Excellent insight Reid.

Smplfc, I have only seen him play twice, both in cup games so I just wanted a second opinion. Too many people on this site are so convinced their own opinion is untouchable that they aren't even willing to listen to others.

If I've not seen a guy play, I am honest enough to admit it haha! If my only experience watching them is YouTube clips, I say so. Just like I said with Grujic that I've only seen extended highlights of him online. The streaming site I use don't show Serbian football for some reason ;)

But yeah, I just like to hear the views of those more well informed than myself. Ed002 is the font of all financial, transfer and business sides of the game. Ed001 and a fair few posters provide excellent analysis of players. And between us all, we can cover most leagues in Europe. That's why the site is so great buddy.

11 Jul 2016 22:00:39
Just want to say great thread here, agree with the post of the week excellent insight and great to hear a good genuine opinion. Also mk bang on this is why this sight is great it is the one sight I've come across where you can genuinely look to broaden your vision of the game and get great insights from people with different views on the game all brought together through a fellow love of Liverpool. Long may threads like this continue to be on the site!

11 Jul 2016 15:57:20
Hi Ed's is Alex Manninger training with the squad and do you see Liverpool offering him a contract?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

11 Jul 2016 16:05:09
Its all over the newspaper internet pages, he's just training with a view to filling in as a number 3 it looks like
Sounds like Wards signed a newcdeal before his Huddersfield loan is that correct news eds? Smart move if so in my book.

{Ed001's Note - Ward was certainly offered a deal, no idea if he signed it though.}

11 Jul 2016 16:15:16
Looks like it buddy its everywhere now 5 years and next season at Huddersfield.

11 Jul 2016 15:27:16
Joe Allen has been named in the team of the tournament. Fair play to him.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

11 Jul 2016 15:59:55
Shows how poor the tournament was then?

11 Jul 2016 16:05:13
Well if Newcastle want 35m for sissoko after his euro performance Joe Allen must be worth double now 😂😂😂😂.

11 Jul 2016 16:30:14
Almost laughable considering his casual loss of possession forced Ramsey into a cynical handball, which subsequently saw him banned for the Portugal game (in which Allen and Ledley were shown up as it was made clear just how much they relied on Ramsey to create anything from midfield) .

I like Allen, he's not a bad player. But he was shocking at times in these Euros. Couple of good passes against Slovakia and Russia shouldn't get you into the team of the tournament.

I'm with mighty red, this just proves how poor the tournament was.

11 Jul 2016 17:59:28
Major blinkers I will admit but seems overly harsh on the lad.

11 Jul 2016 18:10:42
The only welsh player who tries to link the play from the back 3 on consistent basis.

If Joe leaves this Summer - who's next on the LFC fans "not worthy to wear the shirt" list?

11 Jul 2016 18:18:03
At least this may assist us on getting a decent price for him.

11 Jul 2016 18:59:35
Think allen had a really good tournament and thoroughly deserves the accolades. good on him. think your being totally harsh.

11 Jul 2016 19:48:15
Jesus we are hard on your own fellas sometime, the kid gave it a good try, made mistakes but had more solid moments. Fair play to him getting in the squad of the tournament. If he is still with us next year I'm ok with that. BR didn't do us all a favor with his constant pda towards Joe and imo this is what put a lot of people off him. If he was brought in with the goal of a long term future based on areas of acknowledged development you would be singing a different tune of how far he has come.

11 Jul 2016 19:58:44
Welsh Xavi I think he was referred to as.

In all honesty, think he would be awesome in La Liga.

11 Jul 2016 22:29:07
I have always been one of Allen's biggest defenders on this site. For years he was the victim of horrific abuse and vitriol on this site and I have always argued he is a good squad player.

It just seems as though the general consensus has gone from 'awful' to 'amazing' in 6 months.

I am still in the middle. He isn't a good player, but nor is he a bad player. Wales overachieved and Allen seemed to soak up a lot of hype. He is still the same, limited, headless chicken he was at the end of last season. But he dies do a job as a squad player, and never moans.

11 Jul 2016 14:55:47
I don't know how true this Anderson Talisca stuff is. However he is not really a striker, contrary to what is being reported.

He is a very offensive midfield player. He has literally no defensive capabilities aside from being quick and strong, which makes him hard to go past in one on one duels. He can't really tackle though and his positioning is awful.

He is essentially a younger, left footed, Moussa Sissoko. He can play anywhere behind a front man, and can be used in midfield if in desperate need. He did play a handful of games as a striker but he hasn't yet proven he is clinical enough to lead the line.

I'm not entirely sure he is good enough, and in seasons gone by he'd be an £10-12m player. But he would offer us a really powerful and direct runner. As soon as he turns he puts opposition players on the back foot, and unlike Sissoko, he is still young with plenty of time to improve his rather average end product.

I've only seen him in Champions League football, so I don't know anything about his consistency from first hand, but I believe about half of his 20 goals at Benfica came in an 8 game purple patch the season before last. As I have alluded to though, he isn't a dedicated striker so scoring goals isn't his primary job in the team. He is best starting from deep and driving the team forward.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

11 Jul 2016 16:02:07
Think you're spot on here Adam, his goal record really isn't great and to be honest i don't feel his addition will be of much benefit as its another squad place taken. Either players like Ojo and Brannagan are simply not going to get game time or our biggest earner, Milner and the likes of Lallana are going to be left out instead. In my opinion, there are much better options out there and he appears more of a quantity over quality type player in relation to what we already have at the club.

11 Jul 2016 18:15:21
I'm not going to 100% write him off yet HX, he clearly has talent.

But yeah I agree. I don't see what he offers that Ojo could not.

12 Jul 2016 15:15:37
We already have Firmino for that role as well as Studge who can play behind Origi if need be. Either way, Ed has said we have no interest.

11 Jul 2016 14:44:08
Hey ed001, saw you defending Ronaldo a few posts down. Just wanted to point out that apparently Mario Balotelli has that mindset of wanting to be the best. And I read an article yesterday saying half of his salary is donated to charities in Africa.

2nd chance for Mario in your eyes? 😂.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - if Mario truly had that mindset, he would work his backside off in training and stay behind for extra training each day. If he did that, I would be glad to see him stay, but it will never happen.}

11 Jul 2016 14:50:41
I feel ya Ed. Dude has the talent and definitely the physique of a proper striker. Shows how important the mindset is. And after being left out of the preseason squad he's pretty much a definite goner.

11 Jul 2016 15:36:27
Ronaldo the player is excellent often, but as a person i cannot bare him! The media are half to blame with their need for PR superstars.
I mean the guy waves he can't play while still walking, then drops to the floor again awaiting a stretcher so he can soak all the heartache and glory, but his tears seemed to be tears that he thinks without him Portugal stand no chance. And what a suprise! Without him they were better!
And even though he didn't play the camera's focus on him with his top off, not the players who won it, and another shock moment they give him the armband back so he can pick up the cup!

Anyone half sound would have said no thanks let someone who deserves it pick the cup up.

It was shameful.

11 Jul 2016 16:03:28
As much as I dislike Ronaldo, he is where he is because of hard work. Balotelli will never get there because he's simply not prepared to work hard.

11 Jul 2016 17:28:48
I'm not a Ronaldo fan but to say he shouldn't get the armband back to lift the trophy is ludicrous. He is their captain, he should lift the trophy as every captain does. Also the tears wouldn't have been for Portugal not having a chance without him, they were for him going off and missing most of what he'd deem to be one of the biggest games of his career.
You don't have to like the man but stop chatting bs.

11 Jul 2016 18:47:27
I cannot believe there is people on a predominanty Liverpool site praising Ronaldo, who would and has cheated to win match. Before you say other player's have done the same i have not seen name's mentioned on this site in months. (Benteke)

11 Jul 2016 19:34:53
Anyone who has bothered to get beyond the media hatred caused by him having the temerity to (supposedly) get the over rated one sent off years ago will know that Ronaldo doesn't have a crap attitude. Everyone who has ever worked with the guy talks about the same thing, the extra training he always does, the hard work he put in to get to where he is. Regardless of whether he played for united or not he has a work ethic that very few in English football share and certainly we've paid fortunes for players less willing to put in a shift while thinking they deserve that level of praise.

12 Jul 2016 15:17:53
that I is also a mindset that Benteke doesn`t have which is why he is off to CP, a club where no one gets to tell him that he`s not working hard enuff. Benteke has all the tools needed to be a top notch striker BUT his attitude and lack of desire and work ethic will always hold him back.

11 Jul 2016 13:32:31
Hi eds.

Could I please trouble you with some numbers.
How is the clubs standings now in regards to debt and finances?

Rember you did a short walkthrou last year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - We are not going to do anything more related to the finances WRN.}

11 Jul 2016 14:21:08
The club is standing using crutches made of loans.

11 Jul 2016 14:45:42
Mk, that's more or less my understanding aswell.
But in the middle of an discussion with a fellow red about our club.
Who better to ask avout recent numbers then the god himself, mr ed.

But I understand that you won't go into numbers. But I had to try. ;-)

Hi Eds, Just wondering do you know if Lallana will leave now that it looks like Mane with replace him in the first team? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

11 Jul 2016 14:08:41
Why does it look like mane will replace him? He has played 45mins and lallana isn't even back. I hope he stays. We need to start having players capable of the 1st time ready to come off the bench. Be tough to keep them happy this year with lack of football but hopefully we will have lots of European games next season.

Gentlemen I'm a great believer in buying players with potential to develop into greats. But looking at the current trends I fear the club will need to evolve with the times. Whilst we are looking at youngsters such as Grujic to partner up with Emre Can in midfield, our rivals such as Man U are trying to buy Pogba to partner up with Schweinsteiger or Carrick. Zlatan to help mentor Rashford whilst securing a steady inflow of goals. My dream would be for LFC to create a balance between potential stars and finished products when dealing with transfers. Would have loved to see someone like Nainggolan to partner up with Can whilst the likes of Grujic are given time to mature and develop.
But hey, that's just me.

Man utd Are desperately buying big names to keep their profile high whilst they are out of the champions league. We need to concentrate on our own squad and build a team which functions well together. As for nainggolan from what I've seen of him I fail to see how he is any better than what he have and stands out more for his stupid hair styles more so than anything he does on the pitch.

11 Jul 2016 13:09:38
Pogba is the player he is today because he was given a chance in the first team at juve, who were able to win leagues and reach champions league finals with him, rashford was arguably Uniteds most impressive player in the latter half of last season at 18 and can was probably one of our most consistent performers after klopp took over last year. You can either give these players a chance yourself or spend 100m on them when they reach their potential.

11 Jul 2016 13:37:14
i must agree with you panda there seems to be a lot on the site who thinks the young players are the way forward but how many 18 year olds are consistent you've named two young players above but how many other big hopes have faded away to nothing I just hope at the end of the season were not bemoaning the fact that we didn't have good enough back up coming off the bench.

11 Jul 2016 14:13:58
Would just like to ask who all these 18 year old we have bought are. I think many get carried away with all the links to young players we have and forgot we haven't actually signed them. Mane is 18. Matip is not 18. We have enough experienced players in the squad to buy some potential.

11 Jul 2016 16:45:55
Nainggolan lol.

11 Jul 2016 16:51:03
There is a good chance Pogba would still be a Juventus player come end of the window.

11 Jul 2016 16:14:24
They are buying or trying to buy Pogba because they are desperate (which I think they can`t get because of no CL football and based on his Euro perf, he ain`t worth it) and a spent force like Zlatan doesn`t scare me as he's no longer the big name he used to be. And Carick and Schweini? I won`t even comment on those over the hill oldies. Not that convinced of Nainggolan either of making it in the PL even tho he`s a very good player in the Serie A, a much slower league. I think we are doing fine and if you`re good enough, you`re old enough.

11 Jul 2016 19:59:32
If you are good enough, then you are old enough. But I still think LB target is a smoke screen and the LB and DM brought in would surprise everyone.

11 Jul 2016 22:51:15
Not to point out the obvious mate but while they are busy signing star names, Athletico Madrid reached their second CL Final in 3 years and Leicester won the PL.

11 Jul 2016 03:09:53
Sorry, not LFC related, but I'm wondering how the Portugal players will feel when they watch a replay of the final? You'd think they'd expect to see close ups of them celebrating their win, maybe even some shots of the goal scorer! But no, just close up after close up of Ronaldo crying and taking his shirt off. Yes, I know he was the captain and even I felt for him a little bit when he had to come off, but keep your damn shirt on you big girl! Do you think their manager was too scared to tell him to sit down during extra time?

I'm still trying to work out how one of the worst teams at the tournament actually won it?! They where so poor it was unbelievable for most of the tournament and barely just qualified from their group through sheer luck. It's just a sign of how poor the quality of football has been. A German team unable to take penalties for heavens sake. Now Ronaldo is going to be even smugger and love himself even more. I sense a first ever wedding between someone and himself.

11 Jul 2016 07:08:15
Whats wrong with him doing any of that? I'm guessing us as England fans will never know what it's like to get to a final.

Ronnie I'm guessing felt like a fan last night, it was nice to see him care if u ask me. Imagine if that was u there, could u sit down and just watch or would u be up urging the players for one last push to see it through.

I know I couldn't that's for sure, or he could of sat on the bench emotionless and got criticised for showing no emotion and making it all about him?

11 Jul 2016 07:49:48
But Chris, he was the only one doing it. That's the manager's job. But because he's the great CR7 (CR7 for crying out loud) he can do what he wants. I was also making a point about the press being all over him and not showing due respect to the players that actually did the job. You can't blame him for that I suppose. But you can blame him for being such a narcissist. In 2013 when Madrid's museum of wax unveiled his statue, he had the artist reproduce one for him to keep at home. He also has his stylist go in once a month to groom the real hair on the statue. Meanwhile, here on planet earth.

11 Jul 2016 09:38:12
There's clearly no doubt Ronaldo is incredibly vain, and could certainly do with being a bit more humble. However, he is one of the greatest footballers of all time, and he always gives everything when he plays (club and country) . He showed a huge amount of passion last night, and I would rather see that than what the was shown from the England bench! It's a shame he wasn't able to play the full match, because surely we all want to see the best players performing in finals? Either way, congratulations to him and Portugal on their first ever trophy!

11 Jul 2016 10:30:03
I've got to defend him a bit here. Yes the guy is in love with himself and loves to be the centre of attention (plus played for the mancs) but everything he's achieved has been through hard work, derivation and extra training alone, not to mention the ice baths he has at home, if shrek the England captain put in half the work ronaldo does then maybe one day you'll see your skipper with his shirt off after a game! I don't think he's a total t**t under all that fake tan and moisturiser and is also known to donate large sums of money to charity. That's pretty humble in my opinion. But we are all entitled to our opinion.

{Ed001's Note - I am with you. He is not a bad guy, works his backside off, looks after his family and friends, as well as the donations to charity. His main fault is being too focused on being the best he can be, rather than on doing what is best for the team. That focus is why he became such a good player though.}

11 Jul 2016 11:06:59
He's an arrogant "person" but he can back it up so I don't begrudge him the attention.
If he hadn't played the entire tournament they'd probably have lost to Hungary and gone out in the group stages.
He had a major contribution to their success.

11 Jul 2016 12:52:02
The bbc writing an article about him being a great now is cringe worthy. I could have sworn his team won the match last night without him yet the majority of msm is praising ronaldo. Great player, but one of the greats? Never Imo.

11 Jul 2016 13:25:23
Got to add that he seems to be the type of guy to be having a proper recovery today with physio on his knee, iced baths, a swim, a tanning session and maybe a wax. If England had won the tournament they'd be still "on it" now. Sterling would be still on the laughing gas, Wilshire would be photographed with a giant sheesha pipe hanging out of his gob and Rooney would be locked up in some Paris brothel surrounded by a load of great grannies with Coleen going out of her mind looking for him! Ronaldo has a totally different mentality!

11 Jul 2016 13:43:56
Portugal The worst team did you not watch England burkey and on Ronaldo just cause he's vain people seem to hate him but in the end of the day the chap is a positive role model for young kids in the game and on the flip side if he just sat there people would have been accusing him of being in a huff and not being a team player it might not be popular but I for one applaud him for showing his passion and pride for his country.

11 Jul 2016 14:26:26
Can't fault the guy. I've heard that he doesn't make love to his wax statue during the season, so that he can save every last drop of testosterone for the gym and the football pitch.

Do you guys even know how hard it is for him not to go and make love to himself?

11 Jul 2016 14:30:10
I like Ronaldo to be honest he seems like a humble guy. Yeah he is focused on his looks and what he wears but loads of football players do - at the end of the day he is an excellent professional and it shows and off the pitch, by all accounts, he seems like a decent fella who is often involved with various charities. I don't get the vitriol aimed at him personally - especially when Messi is portrayed as the holy innocent despite being a far more unpleasant character.

11 Jul 2016 15:59:35
Been a fan of the player and his skills even while at Man U, always wished we didn't pass on him when we had the chance.
He seems arrogant, but it may be misunderstood for believing in himself and confidence - as the good Ron Keague says, he can back it all up.
I think it was bad for the player and the final, him coming off injured.
Ed001 has a solid point and couldn't agree more.
He takes his wealth and gives large portions to charity, millions a year I read (it was the tabloids though! ) .
I think a lot of hate is derived from jealousy, wouldn't we all want to have his talent, riches and confidence? I can only admire him, no place for jealousy or hate - he has done rather well for himself after all!

11 Jul 2016 16:41:52
Agree with WelshRed, a little while a go, Ronaldo dressed up as a beggar and went to kick a ball around with kids in Spain, nobody looked at him twice in his outfit. once he revealed himself they mobbed him.

A friend of my is from Madeira, he does an awful lot for the island. In terms of his cars etc. why shouldn't he enjoy his success, he certainly seems to give his all, unlike some players in EPL that are only there for the cheque and operate at 50%.

11 Jul 2016 16:30:11
Burkey, what`s your problem with what he did? Did you moan like this when Terry was doing the same thin in a CL game vs Napoli under Di Matteo? If you did, fine. But if you said nothing then, say nothing now. Ronaldo was gutted to have left the pitch last night and he was willing the players on as he was desperate to lift the trophy.

If you don't speak Portuguese, you don't know what he was saying hence, you don`t know if he was giving instructions or not. As Ed and Welsh said, Ronaldo is a player who nobody gave anything to nor pampered, to get to where he is. It was all down to him and his work ethic so I don`t care what people who don't know him, think of him. he's vain. So what?

And the England players are choir boys? Nonsense argument. Do you know he grew up poor or adopted a Syrian child so he could get him away from their horrific civil war or he cut his hair at the last WC and donated it to a kid who he had promised to pay for his cancer surgery? I could keep going but you get my point.

He is so hardworking and shows the desire to want to be great which has inevitably paid off. His teammates and coaches love and tolerate him so who am I to question them? N BTW, the guy is winning. Arrogance is irrelevant to me provided you talk the talk and walk the walk. maybe the England players could learn a thing or two from him but that will be chasing fool's gold.

12 Jul 2016 02:01:12
It's ridiculous the lengths that people will go to demonise Ronaldo. It's pathetic, really. He's one of the world's top two players who just helped his country win their first every major trophy, yet all some people can do is bitch about how he took his shirt off after the game? Seriously, get a life!

10 Jul 2016 23:01:20
Did anyone actually enjoy the euros? man I found it one of the worst tournaments in a long time.

{Ed007's Note - International football has got progressively worse since the moment Diana Ross mis-kicked her penalty at the opening ceremony of the '94 World Cup. FACT!! :)

Lol deadly Al.

11 Jul 2016 13:14:58
Still a better attempt than Zaza's for Italy though Ed.

{Ed007's Note - That's a good point lol - and Diana Ross had the excuse of wearing high heels at the time.}
