a group of Bayern fans unfurled a Hillsborough banner before kick off v Arsenal. Reading ‘Never Forget’ with the Liverbird logo and ‘Justice for the 96′

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It doesn't surprise me mate.

Bayern are a class act.

There season tickets are mega cheap and if you do have a season ticket you get subsidised rail travel all season.

When we played them at The Emirates, Bayern paid nearly half the price of the match ticket for each of the supporters who went to the game (I think they were shocked that Arsenal were charging £67 per ticket).

Class act on and off the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2014 07:57:24
I think I remember one of the eds here saying it's cheaper to fly to Germany and buy a ticket than it to buy an Arsenal ticket.
Not 100% so don't quote me on it.

Good to see rodgers being linked to barca
Of course don't want him to go, but its got to be a good sign. when our top performers are being noticed overseas that can only be good for us

Cone on you reds!

Champions League at its worst tonight in Munich.
Sparring and shadow boxing for 90% of the game.
What a load of rubbish.
Slumberland should have been the sponsor of that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I had to laugh at this post as I actually fell asleep during the highlights and I'm pretty sure it was only about 25 minutes long.

Hey nando if you ever read this stuff. How would you feel if Liverpool did win the league this year then on top of that, Atheletico Madrid won the Spanish league and beat CFC in the Champions League Final. Now that realy would be nails in the coffin. Highly unlikely I know but just imagine that. Atheletico realy do have a great chance at both though

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He would be fuming but come on, he left and has been useless since, let it go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your post is on the assumption that he is interested in trophies at this point in his career. You have assumed wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Presumably, Atletico have built what they have - at least in part - due to the money they received for Torres. There's no point in thinking about what-ifs, it's just a distraction from what you are actually trying to achieve.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's also just occurred to me that when you have FT in your side, you are kind of forced into playing to his strengths (strengths that he doesn't really possess any more). A change in style goes a long way sometimes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was torres loss of pace due to his knee trouble or the bulk he put on? or was it a confidence issue. as much as I dislike him for leaving on his day he was up there with the best anfield has seen, unplayable at times!

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair Athletico Madrid had Falco and Ageuro now Costa since Torres we had Suarez and Sturrdige life goes on no club missed him but I bet he misses the other clubs!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2014 14:11:48
I think it was his Injuries Bon. He is still quick now though he just looks scared to sprint. I think he's deliberately bulked up to try and adjust his game and make it less reliant on speed. For all his critics he is still doing well at Chelsea. Not £50m well, but he's a good striker. It's a shame he left though. I would've loved to see him play with Suarez. I'm sure he has no regrets though as he's won the CL and the EL with Chelsea. If he is ever a free agent, I'd love him back in a Fowler Mk II style move for a season or two.

Eds do you know if Sakho and Lucas may have a chance of starting against Man U at weekend or the bench? Surely if fit you would expect Sakho to partner Skrtel and possibly Lucas to come in for Allen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I expect them on the bench personally.}

11 Mar 2014 18:18:54
Eds, watching the bundesliga highlights show, is there a particular reason why there is a higher percentage of Asian players in the Bundesliga then any other of the big leagues?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - they were just willing to take a chance on them and it became a standard move.}

11 Mar 2014 17:34:01
Eds, any idea what the plans are with Martin Kelly lots of the fans like the guys (including me) think if we can keep him injury free and get him up to speed he will be useful. Would hate to see the player leave because he wasn't getting a chance after impressing at the start of Rodgers tenure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - See earlier answer.}

Look AD has to think about hospitality next year at Old Trafford. He is outspoken but quite often very honest about his statement of his show.

He is blunt but that causes debate which is his job!

Agree0 Disagree0

Iran - I have read your post about ten times and I still have no idea what it's about. It doesn't seem to have any relevance to the first post. What are you smoking?

i don't know much about this adrian durham but he is crying in the mail today how unfair it is utd may not make the cl this seaSON and how they should boycott the europa as its a comp for losers, he must be a utd fan but did they not tell us for years the league table dosent lie, all the rest of us have to go into that comp if we don't qualify.The team david moyes can't get in the top4 won the league at a canter last season so all this transational period doesn't cut it for me, I hope they keep him as their manager he is great dosent deliver in the big games mostly dosent play their attack minded game fergie did which imo was their real strength.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - AD supports Peterborough United.}

11 Mar 2014 18:08:28
Stupid, ridiculous article.
'Almost unfair'
'Tricky season'
'Transition'
Actually laughable.
The transition excuse didn't work for us and nor will it them. Chelsea change managers frequently and have stayed at the top.
Cannot believe that tripe got published,

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been telling my mates (utd fans) for about 3-4 years now that there time is over and that Fergie was worth 15-20 pts to them a season. Once he goes it will fall to pieces as the squad is not good enough. Guess what? They all agree with me now lol. The tinted glasses are off now and the gaping holes are appearing.AD is an person anyway regardless of who he supports.

Agree0 Disagree0

He complains how the English FA didn't let their teams compete in Europe in the 50s because they had an air of superiority towards the rest of the continent. And then he suggests United do the same by rejecting a chance to play in Europe.
How can a national newspaper publish drivel like that?
Unbelievable

S.G.L.

Agree0 Disagree0

I sort of agree with AD.a team of utds stature should be in the CL rather than some obscure romanian team ect that can't win a group game.we all want to watch the best, don't we! .for the good of the CL utd should be in it.just my opinion

This person is surely taking the Michael with his article. There really could not be somebody so stupid allowed to spout this nonsense could there?

Oh sorry it's the mail isn't it. In all honesty this guy is a disgrace and gives all the many good sports journalists something to worry about if he gets paid for that sh1t.

On a brighter note I can't begin to explain how proud I am of Brendan and the boys this season. I actually feel like I've grown an extra inch. In height of course!

Enjoy the remainder of the season my friends and thanks again to all the Eds for their continued excellence. That even includes Ed02 :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I listen to a lot & Durham presents a regular show from 4pm till 7pm, as one of the eds mentioned he's a Posh fan. I find him something of an opinionated bully. Having said that, to give this a bit of balance, he also wrote a recent article for The Daily Fail online giving ten reasons why it would be great if Liverpool quailified for the Champions League.

Agree0 Disagree0

I used to follow boxing they reported whilst I was a follower:

Manfredo won the tv series the contender(sergio Mora)

Lennox Leis retired undefeated (2 losses)

Roberto Duran said no mas (referee said it)

Bernard Hopkins had travelled several times for fights abroad (once in 50)

Agree0 Disagree0

At the end of the day United have no more right to be in the CL than anyone else.

If they end up in the Thursday cup then so be it.

Don't remember anyone saying the sane thing when we didn't qualify.

Anyone else think Pardew s ban is a joke? It's not his first ban for been a prat what does everyone think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

IMO I think punishment for managers should be harsher than players. I say this because a manager is the physical face of a club. Put into perspective, if my manager and I were both found guilty of malpractice who would be made an example of more? Just my opinion!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's a joke He should have the book flung at him he got a 7 game ban and only 3 of them he's out the stadium the fa need shaking from top to bottom absolute joke what the eds think?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no opinion on the subject.}

He's English so anyone else can expect double the ban

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the ban is fitting. He's also had £100k fine from his club.
Not sure if he's been fined by fa

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Mar 2014 22:48:55
Eds has it ever been brought up that player and manager fines should be done as a percentage of weeks wages or how many weeks wages etc. Makes it much more even throughout the levels surely?. don't know how to apply this to club fines possibly as revenue in a month but that could lead to far to o many complications. was just wondering if this was is or will ever be an option?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - A club can fine a player a maximum of two weeks wages.}

Was more so talking about fa fines for things like gambling etc. Probably should have clarified better. I just got to thinking after listening to how cricketers got fined a percentage of their match day fees for a recent incident and I assume this is how all fines are done in cricket (obviously theirs probably exceptions) but I just personally feel this is a much better and smarter way of fining players rather than fining someone like Suarez 20k and then fining a young player like sterling 20k obviously it would effect sterling more.

Players above are just an example obviously as they have a big gap in terms of wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It depends on the offence.}

10 Mar 2014 20:37:36
Eds, meant to ask earlier about the rumours linking us with French striker Lacazette?

With perhaps Borini and Suso returning, do we have space for another striker and does he seem good enough for the Epl please?

Sorry Ed this was an old post last night that didn't get posted but I've had replys now mate thank u.

Im still here fella. Just binding my time and hoping we have a strong finish to the season. Would be a disaster if we slipped away now?

Im not being negative just want us to keep the momentum going.

I really really hope we don't get beet on sunday. I would settle for a draw but a win would be amazing and a big help towards a top 4 finish.

Ynwa.

Come on u red men!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So you would take a draw against a poor Manchester United team

Agree0 Disagree0

I have mates who're United fans. I want us to beat them so I could laugh at their faces, well that's just me though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dezyboy. I want to win this game and every game but we have to be realistic and if we can't win then a draw is next best thing?!.

If we do happen to get beet then i'm sure we will get all the negative posts back on here blaming individual players and BR for his tactics?

Spuds play Ars, so my veiw being if we draw its a point gained.

U get me?

Agree0 Disagree0

Utd will up their game for this one. Remember all those times when Utd actually had a better team/manager than us and we still used to give them a good game? Same situation now dezyboy, poor or not, it will be a fast and furious game and I wouldn't mind a draw.

Agree0 Disagree0

True lads but they are there for the taken upwards and onwards don't look back only forward this season is different I can smell it

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we don't get beet too, don't mind bit of carrot and cabbage though, much nicer

hi eds and reds just wanted your opinion on reina, although he may leave do you think he's a better keeper than mignolet? me and a friend are constantly bitching over who is better, my mate thinks reina is awful where as I think he's a top keeper.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Reina was better, but he lost his way. Right now, I would say they are much of a muchness, though very different types of keepers, with Mignolet being younger and so having the potential to be better.}

11 Mar 2014 15:20:50
In my opinion reina was better with the ball almost certainly, where I'm generally far more confidant Simon will pull off the save. Which was let reina down, many of the goals he conceeded I generally thought he should of done a lot better

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for the reply mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Reina was class earlier on with Liverpool but there was this time when some of his decision making went all wrong. I actually thought he got better after that. But then came this Barca talk. I felt Rodgers lost his confidence in Reina just about that stage. But to me Reina was a really good goalie. Wish him the best.

Agree0 Disagree0

They are probably quite similar now in terms of quality, but one is on half the wages of the other and is much younger.

I know which one I would pick!

Agree0 Disagree0

Riena hasn't been anywhere near as good since he let that ball slip thru his fingers in the first LFC game after he won the world cup with Spain in 2010.!

Hi eds and reds I was just wondering ed1. what do you thing of aunt bessie's roasties and will they come down in price? And could you see them at Liverpool?cheers mate

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I saw them once in a Farmfoods in the Strand if that counts? The price seems to be going up though rather than down, sorry.}

Forget over processed, over priced, over packaged tosh! Do it the LFC way, buy a bag of potatoes and make your own masterpiece! YNWA ;)

Hi, just a quick one regarding Lallana. I have read a few posts by you on him rejecting us in the past and I am just curious as to wether that was because we were in turmoil when we went for him? and now with the chance of CL and a much more stable club, if we were to go for him or the club set a price on him - would we be a more desirable option that the likes of man c, man u & Chelsea, with our emphasis on young british players? thanks pal

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - nope, nothing to do with that, he just doesn't want to leave Southampton, nor does he want to join us.}

11 Mar 2014 00:58:18
hello eds,

how are you feeling about the appointment of clattenburg for the man u-Liverpool game? do you think he will have a good-decent performance based on his past performances or are we in for some drama come game day?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't think it matters which ref, they are all useless.}

Sorry ed but I think Michael oliver is a good referee.he is the Only referee who uses prudence and doesn't go in with a prejudice mind

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and yet he makes mistake after mistake. Sorry but that is not a good referee in my book.}

Ed is there a specific reason why we dnt have foreign ref's in this country?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - do you know what, I don't actually know. I know when there are match fixing issues a country will often bring in foreign refs to try and calm the corruption fears. I don't know why top refs aren't acquired by the league though, it would make sense for the league to try and sign the top refs from around the world. Especially in view of the shortage of qualified refs, and complete lack of any decent refs.}

The FA should get an exchange programme running. Send a few of ours out on a temp basis and welcome a few in on a temp basis. Keep swapping and changing every now and again and with different country's.
At the very least it will give us a few extra talking points, but also it could give the refs experience in another league and maybe even improve and standardise the levels of refereeing here and in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Week back everyone said we had web for this game why thechange edd do u no? cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There has been no change.}

Who would you say are the best refs in the Prem Ed001?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I honestly don't rate any of them. Not one fills me with any confidence at all. Webb stands out as the worst, the rest are just slightly less useless.}

Clattenberg seems ok

Good morning Eds

With the current situation at Barcelona, seems to be various problems at the at the moment, do you see them letting selling some of their younger/fringe players?
Also If anyone has been watching La Liga this season, what has gone wrong with Barca in the league? I know Messi has been injured at points, but they bought in neymar & Sanchez seems to be having his best season for them?

PM

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on money for them, they should be being forced to sell to stay afloat, they are skint, beyond skint. Whether they will do, well that is different. They have plenty of backing from banks etc, so they have a line of credit they can draw on, even though the banks would prefer them not to. It is simply a case of the banks being afraid to call in their debts due to a fear of losing the custom of every non-Madrid supporter in Spain. With their plans for a new stadium, they will probably be having to use their credit on getting that built, and so there is a very good chance they will have to sell to buy this summer. Obviously no one knows for sure, even within the club.}

I think the neymar situation has highlighted a few problems for them.
Time to go back to basics and go back to the formula that brought them so much success, invest in the youngsters and not spend stupid amounts on the likes of neymar and agents fees. Most of the planets top talent should be willing to murder their own parents for a chance to play for barca not trying to get £30m+ for them. Barca should have walked.

Good morning Eds. Not sure if I said something wrong but was asking about the serb midfielder Markovic? Apparantly we scouted him recently through head scout Barry Hunter?

Also simular with french striker Lacazette?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate, I was leaving it until the morning in the hope someone would get back to me with more info. Unfortunately he is away and not able to provide anything more on it. As for Lacazette, I don't know a lot about him, other than he is being talked up as the next best thing.}

Know worries mate.appreciate you trying to find out for me. didn't think it was something I said as i'm generally trying hard to be selective on my posts now lol.

All good.keep up the good work

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - if Ed002 is around, he can usually answer immediately as all the info he has is placed in a database. I used to store everything in files, but it became too difficult to keep track of and sort through, so I gave up on that. Ed002 has a team of trained serfs to do those kind of menial tasks for him, when they are not fixing him cocktails and fanning him with peacock feathers.}

10 Mar 2014 23:18:13
Ed001, I was just wondering with the current CB situation at the club, what are your thoughts on the young Spaniard in the U21's Rafa Paez? Have you seen much of him and what are your thoughts?

I'm not in any way suggesting he should be considered to play yet, but he seems to be the only of the young CB's being mentioned. How do the club rate him after his first 8 months?

Thanks,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen much of him myself, I am finding it difficult to find the time to catch up with the youth teams this season. I am told he has impressed on a consistent basis, from the moment he came on trial. There are high hopes for him for the future, with the likes of Kelly and Wisdom converting to full back, there is chance for him to win a place in the future.}

Do not feel as though either Kelly or Wisdom will be able to make a case for themselves for a centre back place, for next season? Sure Wisdom has impressed there when skippering the England U21s

10 Mar 2014 23:17:41
Can any of the edds could answer please,
Why do so many Brazilian players move to clubs in Ukraine or Russia? Is it because of money, gametime or something completely different such as work permits? Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - because there are many players there looking to move abroad each year and there is money there to pay them well.}

10 Mar 2014 22:28:47
If Moyes thinks he'll get Shaw and Lallana for £30m combined he must be smoking the stuff Wenger had last summer!
Eds Southampton have told clubs that Shaw will go for no less than £30m right? And Lallana can't be valued at less than £25m so why he thinks Southampton would accept that I have no clue.
Is united's interest definite eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes they are interested, I doubt they will arrive, certainly not for that price.}

11 Mar 2014 09:55:31
All the talk is (quite rightly) of us making the champions league. For me - as a fan, this is all about being able to watch Suarez and co. on the biggest stage on Tuesday/wednesday nights against the Madrids and the Milans etc. Then there's the added ability of being hopefully able to attract the better players. The stuff of dreams.
What do the money men think? How much will it benefit us on the financial side? I know this is a bit of a broad question but put in context I read this morning that United landed a £600million kit deal with somebody. (600MILLION!). And then you have City and Chelsea's billions. I mean, Arsenal have struggled to effectively compete and they've been qualifying every single year for the Champions League. What will it mean on the business/financial side of things if we qualify? Again apologies for such a broad question.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It can only be beneficial making the CL, without going in-depth.

PS, I don't think either of the Milan teams are going to be playing CL.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really? Well, you know what I mean. Against the Barcaleonas and Manchester Uniteds doh! They won't be the either will they. Silly me.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's clearly not going to hurt the financial situation. The prize money for 12/13 was:

Playoffs: €2, 100,000
Base fee for group stage: €8, 600,000
Group match victory: €1,000,000
Group match draw: €500,000
Round of 16: €3, 500,000
Quarter-finals: €3, 900,000
Semi-finals: €4, 900,000
Losing finalist: €6, 500,000
Winning the Final: €10, 500,000

Plus the involved clubs get a percentage of the TV rights/market pool and this is generally more than the prize winnings (or can be). Even if we do fairly poorly it'll add at least €20M+ to the clubs revenue I would think. Juventus got around €60M last CL and Bayern €55M, as examples.

Agree0 Disagree0

I find the Champions League boring, to be honest. A lot of shadow-boxing and playacting, as someone else posted.

But if we make lots of money from it - fine with me.

Agree0 Disagree0

To clear things up for anyone worried about FFP rules for next season. If we finish in the top 3 we have qualified for the CL. If we finish 4th we will enter into the 3rd rd qualifiers. Because we have not been in any European competition this season we will not need to qualify for any FFP rules. Next season, IF :) we are in Europe, then next season we will have to qualify for the FFP rules over the previous 3 seasons. It will not be a problem as H&G losses can be offset.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lol, offset! how can you off-set the dept?. and in any case I don't think it will go un-noticed that FSG has prob spent the thick end of £200mil on players since they arrived, that's right up there with the best of them, trying to keep up with the jones = spending money you havnt got.i think uefa might notice this

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks "the word". How was your weekend?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure I follow how H&G would have spent the club's money during the 11/12, 12/13 or the current 13/14 fiscal years.
