12 Feb 2016 23:12:48
If you had control of transfers this summer and a realistic transfer kitty, say £20m plus whatever you had in sales, who would you bring in and move on?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

13 Feb 2016 00:46:35
Move on: Mignolet, Balotelli, Milner and Moreno (both unlikely)

Leaving anyway: Enrique and Toure

Coming Back: Luis Alberto and Markovic

Sign: Ter Stegan or Butland or Leno (probably all budget gone) . Anything from sales buy a LB, best we can afford

That's it, better GK and LB. we have Gomez and Ings returning from injury, Markovic and Alberto (who've both done well and deserve a chance) and the youth that played in the cups.

13 Feb 2016 04:08:05
Sell mignolet, skrtel, Milner, lallana, balotelli, benteke.
Release Enrique, Toure.
Markovic back in.
Make smith and Flanagan first choice full backs.
Buy a gk, a CB, a Cm and a pacey attacker, who can operate on the flanks.
Moreno i'd personally keep, make second choice and make him improve his game. He has the right work rate and does get forward well, just doesn't produce often enough, and needs work on closing down and marking, but by no means a lost cause.

12 Feb 2016 19:40:51
. I think the goalkeeper problem is a trickier one to sort than people are realising. Say we get off migs and bogs. Then what? Try and find a top class one and leave ward as number 2?

What about promoting ward and finding a new back up? Op p.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

12 Feb 2016 20:04:01
if we go down that path and promote danny ward. we need to find a expirenced goalkeeper who wouldn't mind being a number 2 but can help ward with his game. any suggestions fellow reds? option 2 we go for a "top class"goalkeeper again any suggestions?

12 Feb 2016 21:00:47
Begovic, Sirigui, Zieler, Domenech.

12 Feb 2016 21:06:58
Is Ward really that good?

12 Feb 2016 21:33:54
we won't know about that annie until we give him a try. plus I think the clamour for ward is on the basis migs and bogdan are so poor.

12 Feb 2016 22:24:42
He did great for Aberdeen and deserves a few chances, but there's no guarantee he's anywhere near good enough for PL.

12 Feb 2016 22:31:24
Honestly don't know why people keep saying Sirigu or Begovic. Sirigu is not a good keeper at all and has all the issues that Mignolet has and Begovic decided to sit on the bench in his peak years which makes me question his motivation, given that he turned us down already.

12 Feb 2016 22:41:24
We need a top gk look how Cech help Arsenal . We need to buy a top class gk that should be are number 1 target.

12 Feb 2016 23:06:24
Look at Milan. They had Diego Lopez and Christian Abiatti who are more experienced but kept screwing up and couldn't be trusted. What did they do? They went to their Primavera (academy) and found a 16 yr old still wet behind the ears. Now look at them now. I say, give Ward the shot, trust him, support and be patient with him. We've tried other gk's and nothing has come out from them. Why not try one of our own?

13 Feb 2016 00:02:09
Any thoughts on Reina returning to the club and helping Ward?

13 Feb 2016 00:12:56
good point redohio imagine how good he will be in 5 years time. I have seen him play for milan and have been impressed. Another example I would use is kane at spurs, they wasted millions on strikers until poch gave him his chance. The rest is history as they say. danny ward could save us millions or he could be crap, but until he gets a chance we won't know. that's all were asking klopp to do give the guy a chance. That 16yr old plays in the san siro, not a easy crowd to please.

13 Feb 2016 00:50:54
Would Chelsea, City, Man Utd, Arsenal even think about starting a season with a young keeper untested in the PL (however talented? )

We need to blood Ward before the end of the season to get a good look at him, then in the summer sell Migs, bring in someone like Patricio, Horn or Ter Stegen as first choice, and use Ward next season in cup games and to foster healthy competition.

In 2-3 years all going well he'll be able to own a first team place.

13 Feb 2016 02:14:16
I agree with you up to a point zimbo, however none of the goalkeepers you mentioned have any pl expierence. its a shame we haven't a brad friedel type to help danny ward. from your list I would pick horn. Also I don't care what other clubs do, I only care what Liverpool do. its sure to be a hot topic. The one thing we all agree on is this. MIGS AND BOGDAN MUST GO.

12 Feb 2016 18:24:30
Good evening ED001 and ED002

I'd like to ask your opinion on the affiliation of Liverpool FC and Nivea, and other random products associating themselves to football clubs

This is absolutely genuine, and may need ED001 to back me up at some point, as I'm not sure ED002 will believe me

So, I'm in a well known supermarket at the weekend, explicitly in the menswear grooming section. 2 lads are next to me and I hear one say to the other "I'd rather have my balls rubbed with a house brick that buy that shite"

I turned to look at what they laughing about, and were indeed talking about the Nivea cream stand with liver birds on and clearly blue noses

Now to me this doesn't surprise my one iota, I have a lot of Evertonian mates, and not one of them would buy a red car, a red kettle, write with a red pen, wear red socks, not go out with a stunner who wears red lipstick, or knickers, drink red wine. you get the picture, they think there blue is blood blah blah (ED001.it's the way it is isn't it la)

However, it did get me thinking, that 50% of Liverpool would now never buy this product, even if they have swore by it all there life.

100% of Manchester, now don't buy this product, even if they don't like football. the rival tribal thing is making them buy the good old Cream E45

How many footy fans across the land will now stop using it? How many Arsenal fans have got Nivea in there bathroom cupboard knowing the stand they picked it up off had the Liverpool crest on it?

Ask yourself this reds. are you buying Lynx with a Man U badge on it? Or fairy liquid with Lukakus mug shot on it?

Answer. no. ED002, I guess this where you call this ridiculous, or us fickle. but it's what happens.

I won't reveal my age but I should know better. I ain't buying no Spurs shampoo

So, back to my original question. if Nivea sales fall because of our identity on it. do you think it may affect other bigger brands want to be associated with us in the future, could it affect commercial revenue, clearly not in a major way, but a dent?

Of course the flip side is there are people in the Afghan Kush now applying Nivea because Coutinho did his throwing a bucket of water at the camera thing, or advertising as you would probably call it

Just food for thought, and a bit of fun away from the ticket prices and protests etc

Regards.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - I doubt their sales will drop from the association, even if both Everton fans stop using it.}

12 Feb 2016 18:45:14
I remember seeing on tv once before a Newcastle vs sunderland match a Newcastle fan said he didn't eat bacon because it was red and white and reminded him of sunderland! also I bet other clubs fans didn't stop drinking carlesberg because they sponsored lfc. agree with ed 1 on this.

12 Feb 2016 18:47:21
Probably targeting fans abroad if anything, if both Everton fans stop using it (thanks ed) then it's a small dint but Liverpool FC would have been telling Nivea about our millions and millions of fans in Australia, America, Norway, Indonesia etc and Nivea will be hoping to improve sales in these markets.
I mean how many football fans from Liverpool or Manchester use moisturiser? Probably just yourself an me when I see a new grey hair and freak out a bit. Lol.

12 Feb 2016 18:56:59
ED001 lol, you get what I'm trying to say though right?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, but only a few people will stop buying it, whereas a large number will buy it because of the raised profile.}

12 Feb 2016 19:01:40
Milkey and Kenny your both right, like I said it was for s bit of fun more than anything

But it is true. are you two buying products with a Man U badge on it? Never in a million years

It was just to highlight the tribal / rival thing, and even at 51 years old and should know better, it's still there in me lol.

12 Feb 2016 19:10:21
ED001, now I have your attention

Can I ask a slightly non Liverpool question, that is a) basically on everyone lips, and b) because ED002 had debt the Manchester lot to Coventry

. you know what it is right?

{Ed001's Note - no you can't have my babies, sorry.}

12 Feb 2016 19:17:33
youre right kemlyn I can't tell you how many times I have been in asda and have been tempted to pick up the man utd birthday cake drop it on the floor and stamp on it for no reason other than that cake makes me puke!

12 Feb 2016 19:31:44
ED001, comon give it up, I know it's not directly Liverpool related, but, our are rivals from up the M62 going to have Mr Jose Mourhino in charge come August 2016?

{Ed001's Note - nothing is agreed yet, but he would like that job.}

12 Feb 2016 19:39:45
Are the MU board considering him?

You know ED002 is going to blow a fuse talking of such matters in such a irrelevant domain

ED001, try the Europe page lol.

{Ed001's Note - I will run off there now and have a look.....}

12 Feb 2016 20:18:54
I've got Gary Neville bog roll - don't see a problem using it.

12 Feb 2016 21:12:09
My wife bought me it. Makes me look 10 years younger!

12 Feb 2016 23:12:28
Everton and united fans don't use products like that anyway, have you seen the state of them? Haha.

12 Feb 2016 20:01:02
For Kenny.

Dave Whelan was a whisker away for purchasing man united. His wife advised him that having jjb and man united related could cause problems for jjb as other fans would stop using it. He agreed and bought Wigan instead. Lol.

13 Feb 2016 00:19:39
good one paulo96 keep the jokes coming!

{Ed007's Note - So Dave Whelan done a deal with Rangers and alienated every right thinking normal human - and look how they both ended up!}

13 Feb 2016 02:03:29
karma its a cruel mistress ed7,im sure you're heartbroken about it all. don't forget the mike Ashley/ rangers partnership which kept the laughs coming. I heard after the cup final Whelan sent the fans home in a taxi and that included Martinez in the passenger seat!

{Ed007's Note - It's boring mate, it's bored me for years and Ed001 will back me up on that, it's petty and very ugly. I'd love to cheer for Ashley for what he's done/doing to them but I just can't - my wife's friend works for SD and it's not the best. Nothing fancy or that she's a manageress in a shop but the conditions are bad enough without the hassle from Rangers fans they get.
I hope the LFC fans think of those folk with your protests about this and that, there's ordinary people get dragged into it too. Here endeth this week's sermon.}

13 Feb 2016 03:27:57
im sorry to hear about your wife's friend ed7 I have never believed in dragging civilians into football matters. I don't mind banter but I do believe there is a time and a place to air your grievances, nobody deserves hassle in the work place esp over things they have no control over. I think we can easily forget that at the end of the day, there are more important things in life than football, sadly people do go over the top which is no excuse, sadly these idiots have the brain cell of peter griffin. one question mate, do you miss the old firm derby?

{Ed007's Note - You're far too sensible to be on here lol No I don't miss the Derby in the slightest, overall Scotland's a better place without it.}

12 Feb 2016 17:55:43
Am I the only that thinks that Luis Alberto, providing he wants it, should be given a shot next season? He seems to be doing well in La Liga and my friend who's a Spanish football fan said he looks fairly decent
Cheers guys.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

12 Feb 2016 18:06:59
The Ed's say something about him scorning the club and behaving improperly, that's why he was frozen out.

12 Feb 2016 18:33:05
Your mate says he is fairly decent?

What does that even mean?

12 Feb 2016 18:50:56
he is playing well, but I don't think he has a future with lfc. I expect he wouldn't want to come back, i'm pretty certain he will be sold in the summer. another strange Brendan Rodgers signing, ie buy a player and then have no clue what to do with them.

12 Feb 2016 21:11:00
Bloke down the pub said he has improved a little this season. Give him a new contract quick.

12 Feb 2016 22:27:17
I remember Balague saying Alberto was a great hidden gem. I've heard that so many times with Mark Gonzales and the likes.

12 Feb 2016 23:10:34
He's been really good for Depor this season and has been scoring and assisting. Scored a belter from close range last week vs Gijon. IMO, he has no future here and needs to go. Another of BR's buys bites the dust but I guess the TC will get the blame because they're the cause of all our ills.

13 Feb 2016 01:32:30
It's good he's playing well because means we can recover some transfer fees, but not in the plans for Liverpool I expect.

12 Feb 2016 15:22:01
Gk, lb,2x cbs, cdm that's where i strengthen in the summer. Trim the squad right down aswell. Any youth who are clearly not going to make it get rid of.

Believable1 Unbelievable14

12 Feb 2016 16:34:06
Less about getting rid of youth (on frees or paying to release them from their contracts by the way), more selling squad players on high wages and bringing in some money on their transfers I. e. Benteke, Milner, Lallana, Toure, Mignolet among others. Also loan players I. e Balotelli, Alberto, Wisdom.

A couple of youth players who you don't think are going to make it are not the problem. We need to bring in money to ease our financial position, not spend it releasing youth players from low wage contracts.

12 Feb 2016 17:57:48
We don't need a left back.
We have smith and Moreno who can fight over the place, both are young and full of potential and when one persons form drops then the other can step in. Plus flanno and Gomez can further cover if need be.
Don't understand why we need 2 CBs either. We have sakho, lovren, Gomez and skrtle, bring one in yeah but not 2.
Wouldn't bring in a goal keeper until ward has been given a chance and we can see what he's capable of first.
There, saved the club £30-40m.

12 Feb 2016 18:05:34
GK's a definite area we need to improve. I don't think anyone would argue. I'd definitely get at least one CB too.

I think we should try Brad Smith as our regular left back between now and the summer. If he's able for it, we won't need to sign anyone.

Lucas is fine at CDM and both Rossiter and Stewart have potential. It wouldn't be a priority for me. If we are signing a central midfielder, I'd look for a genuine playmaker because we don't have one.

We'll need to replace Coutinho if he leaves - as is quite possible.

Benteke is probably leaving which would leave us with three strikers, one of whom has spent most of the last two seasons injured, and another will be coming back from a cruciate ligament injury. So we'll probably need to replace him too in case Ings and Sturridge have fitness issues next season.

Including people out on loan, I see at least 10 senior players, probably more, leaving.

12 Feb 2016 18:23:06
More savings : Grujic already coming, Matip may be coming on a free. Kevin Stewart and Teixeira deserve a shot, then there's Cameron Brannigan and Rossiter.
Chirivella, Ojo, Kent, Canos, Markovic.

12 Feb 2016 18:34:08
We need a goal keeper and 2 CB. Fans that say otherwise are content on 9th in the league.

12 Feb 2016 12:24:31
Would like to see ojo brought on with sturridge at some point as I think he's go something special about him in the final third.

Believable8 Unbelievable16

12 Feb 2016 13:44:28
I wanna see that lad on the bench more. I think I he can make a real impact.

12 Feb 2016 12:49:07
Yes. And Ryan Kent too. Tot Illori was decent enuf.

12 Feb 2016 20:38:34
Kent was brought back looked at and now back with the 21's Klopp obviously believes he's not ready for step up.

12 Feb 2016 08:58:01
Ed001 Read earlier from yourself about man city providing private education for kids in there academy, But my question is have barce got the right idea and will English clubs ever start that them selfes. Barce kids live together, school together, train together, eat together all under the watch full eye of barce youth coaches and because of that have better education, friendships, diet and understanding of the game. Also they prefer kids to teach kids technical ability and tactical understanding rather than expecting them to win its more about natural development that will lead to them becoming winners rather than by winning at all costs.

Sorry if this is rambled non-sence

thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable11

{Ed001's Note - it is difficult to do the full live in experience here in the UK. I do think it should be moved towards that system, especially the removal of the win at all costs mentality that pervades. Results are irrelevant at those ages. Kids learn more when they are playing for fun, rather than under pressure to win.}

12 Feb 2016 10:45:17
100% agree Ed, results shouldn't matter as much as they do at academy level.

12 Feb 2016 11:18:35
As the old saying goes, you learn more about yourself in defeat than you do in victory.

12 Feb 2016 11:24:35
Ed, at what age do you think kids should learn about winning is more important than the taking part aspect and I don't mean at any cost, as that's plain wrong? I remember (seen the better side of 50) when I went to secondary school, is when attitudes changed for us, maybe even slightly earlier!

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure they should ever learn that. There is a difference between doing your best to win and winning is everything. It should be fun until they are in the first team.}

12 Feb 2016 12:09:54
Thanks Ed, it's what I've taught my two boys, that if you've done your best, it's good enough, at least to my wife and I! I've always said, do your best and if you get beaten by a better person or team, they were better than you or your team on the day! In that situation, you need to be a good loser too! Not trying to do your best each time is wrong and why I get upset with certain players, as don't believe they always do at times, mentioning no names!

12 Feb 2016 14:05:07
What's the point of being a winner if you are hating every second of it.

12 Feb 2016 17:20:12
Ed I agree that kids should play for fun but look at when they get older and they don't put in he necessary shift to win at all costs. We lack a player with the win at all cost mentality that Suarez brought to us and as a result our whole squad is mentally disengaged from what is required from them as Liverpool players. We need a vocal player in our team to shout at the lazy bastards that are just passengers in a match. Fortunately for these lazy players the Kop no longer intimidates opponents and as a result doesn't affect our own players either. Gone are the days when 40,000 people would be chanting "You're sh! t and you know you are" at players that are not trying during matches.

12 Feb 2016 19:04:03
I posted something similar a few days back scouse pride. top post, we need to have a few nasty characters who would rather saw there own arm off than to lose. I only hope that klopp can instill this into the team. I know you can't win every week but when we lose, I want the winning team to describe it as the longest 90mins of there lives. we have a soft underbelly imo, to many talkers after the match has finished we are sorry etc. we need action not words. when you consider the teams we have lost to over recent years its shocking and shamefull.

13 Feb 2016 04:17:01
Suarez: win at all costs
Carragher and Gerrard: winning is everything.

12 Feb 2016 08:57:50
Right, still find it hard to believe we are not in the FA cup and especially that we lost 3 out of 4 games to West Ham this season and drew the fourth.

But I will try to look at the positives. Us losing means that for the first time in ages we will have a weekend off next week between our two EL ties. This will give us time to focus on the EL and ideally, if we can get a good result next Thursday away, we can have our senior squad resting before the league cup final.

I can't stress enough how important is this game. Usually I don;t make much of the leage cup fan but this year it is different. If Klopp can get a trohpy in his first season it will give him and the team a real boost and make them confident about the EL as well. We need to change the 'big moments losers' mentality of this team. Lose it and it will feel as if the season ended at the end of February.

I think it is really important to finish this season with some momentum. If we want to keep top players (and I do) like Couts, Sturridge, even Benteke if starts scoring (and you have to hope, that playing along Sturridge, if he will have as many chances as he had against West Ham he will start to) .

I am happy for some new signings in the summer but first we have to stop our tradition from the last two seasons to sell our best players (by this I refer to Couts and Sturridge) . Especially with new players taking so much time before they find a form (if ever) with us for some reason.

Believable7 Unbelievable17

12 Feb 2016 09:15:13
Wembley is a must win for liverpool FC after all the positive talk about the improvement. The reality is we are well and certain to finish outside top 6, We got sneak past into Finals for the league cup and got dumped out from the FA cup.
We need to win the EL at any cost which will give us CL place next season, With hardly anything to play in the league we should play the best and strongest team possible in the EL.

Except Klopp's funny interview we have nothing to remember this season and that's the bottom line.

12 Feb 2016 13:38:16
Oh dear.

12 Feb 2016 18:33:47
You're such a doubter 'Transition'. 😡

Come and join us - we're Klopp's believers 😎
As far as I'm concerned we can beat any team on our day and there's no reason why we can't go on a run in the league and win the Europa too. There are plenty of premier league points up for grabs.

12 Feb 2016 19:10:16
no matter what happens transition this season will be remembered by me as the year jurgen klopp became Liverpool manager, its been 4 months and I still can't believe it happened. winning at Wembley is more achievable than winning the El. jurgen klopp a trophy winning lfc manager has a nice ring to it.

12 Feb 2016 19:34:49
There's an interesting point on one of the other footballing sites not sure if it was sly or football365) about Pochettino.

Saints came up with Atkins, he was sacked with them in 15th and they finished the season with him Pochettino in charge in 14th.

They improved the year after and he's now 2nd in the league with Spurs.

Lets see what happens this season but give Klopp a chance to have a pre-season and have some of his players that he wants in the team.

12 Feb 2016 20:12:19
Lots of people bang on about Pochettino but he's won nothing.
When he wins something he'll probably slope off to a decent club in Spain.

12 Feb 2016 23:20:42
Spot on, Ron. Poch was learning his trade at Espanyol when Klopp was terrorizing Bayern, the Bundesliga and the whole Europe and winning trophies while doing it. Poch has won nothing and the last time I checked, 2nd only ranks as 1st place in Loser Land. When he gets his first troph, we can discuss.

12 Feb 2016 04:25:59
Liverpool fans apparently planning a tribute to FSG thanking them at the next home game. I think that puts to bed this spurious idea that the fans are just opportunists and will do anything to get the owners out- I. e. Protest a price hike. Complete nonsense. What the fans really want is a positive relationship between themselves and FSG, and to coexist in a manner that benefits Liverpool.

Believable18 Unbelievable17

12 Feb 2016 06:57:24
That would be great. Hope it's true and hope it happens.
