We are already half way through January and there has been no movement by Liverpool. Isn't it time that Liverpool question what Comolli brings to the table? {Ed016's Note - I had him over for dinner for my roast last night, he brought the potatoes and gravy to the table, can't ask for more than that in a man. (stupid answer for a stupid question}

Alright Ed, calm down. I know it must be annoying answering questions left, right and centre but chill yo' beans {Ed016's Note - No offense intended, . Its not going to take 3 transfer windows...It wasn't a blast at you, just too much negativity. its only 12 days into the window thats actually only been about 9 working days or less , you think a multi million pound deal take an hour or so? not even half way through the window!}

No one has made any moves in the window yet so people just relax it will happen when it happens.

Lazy Lad

I'm not sure if it will 'happen when it happens'. I'm generally not a betting man but I've got a hunch that it will happen after it happens. Possibly.

what i find funny is when i see repeat posts, from fans on ere wanting alonso(legend) podolski sow sissoko coutinho ericksen higuain sturridge lucas and many more , must mean d aint happy with adam henderson n carrol? double standards at times ,
5 gold stars

Not double standards 5 gold stars. Just players people think that could improve the squad. There's always room for improvement mate, surely even you agree?

We want to add to the squad, not replace it.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Improvements all good, but don't mention Shaun wright sturridge in that list...

What i find funny is when i see repeat posts, from pretend fans on ere moaning about Carroll, Henderson and many more , must mean d aint SUPPORTERS of the players who wear a liver bird. The type who only sing when we're winning, who refuse to support players who have a bad game and are simply fair-weather fans double standards at times ,

cozinoz

Well said cozinoz but carroll has been one big flop for us at the city game he didnt even look like he wanted to play, quality player wrong club! proven striker needed pronto!

I don't think he's a flop at all. Everyone will agree that we need a quality striker but as well as, not instead of, Andy Carroll. He brings a different dimension to the game and offers us other options. If we bought Aguero, people would moan because no-one was reaching the high crosses or providing a physical presence in the box. The fact is that we could do with someone like Rush or Fowler - he could team up with AC or SG or Suarez depending on the oppositions strengths and weaknesses. Anyone who says AC is rubbish knows FA about football - a tall strong, centre-forward who has scored regularly at premier league level and has a viciously accurate left peg and great heading technique. Scares the brown stuff out of other defences to boot. Andy Carroll might not fit well in LFCs current formation and we might not have yet found the correct combination up front with him....but he is certainly not a poor player. Everyone has the right to their opinion but don't go around saying that a player is crap unless you have more knowledge than Kenny Dalglish, Fabio Capello and Blair Mayne put together.
Look how everyone started ejaculating when Stevie G started sending crosses his way at Newcastle - with the right service/formation/partner you will see a very good potential turn into a dominant striker.

cozinoz

I reckon Im a better player , I have better control am faster and almost the same height! So maybe they should sign me ? I guarantee I'll score more than Andy but I wouldn't say I'm anywhere good enough for a prem team let alone Liverpool . I support Andy cos I support the team but if he were playing for another team I'd say he is sh*t
Uruseb {Ed016's Note - then go support another team}

Uruseb - if you can guarantee you'd score more Premiership goals than Andy Caroll I hope you are playing at least league 1 football. If you're still in Sunday league of the Ryman then you're wasted mate. He may not have lived up to his price tag yet but I think too many people underestimate how hard it is to score against well organized Premiership defences. One of the reasons he did better at Newcastle than for us is probably that teams don't try to keep as many behind the ball against Newcastle leaving more space and time for the strikers.
Bob

Cozinoz IF you actually go to Anfield,yould see everyone supporting,backing and willing Carrol to do well.Then he f s it up,to LFC'S detriment.People moan,and slag cos their dissappointed for hom,but especially for LFC.More so if its cost valuble points.No one man love in,is bigger then well being of club.Insteadve slagging everyone for not"supporting"the team.The v fact they go,Back Side when at game,and players.Means they support LFC,NOT one player!

Fair enough Bob , but what I'm saying is that running 10 yards with the ball and falling over on your own to me isn't prem standard 23 years old or 33 years old these guys are professionals and get paid for it. I want carrol to score more than anyone but I also want everyone in the team to score. Put it this way if he was a manager with that success rate he would've been sacked! And sorry but ball control is the most fundamental part of football and if you struggle with it at 21 your going to have trouble. Sorry.
Uruseb

Getting so board with all the negitive talk about lfc players it's disgusting and shocking to hear. Liverpool football club is one of the biggest clubs in the world and we have gone through a really rough time over the last two to three years, no money, s**t owners only interested in there wallet and slowly dragging our club further and further into the mud. Then one fine day we get new owners with a passion and care for our club willing to listen to us and invest in us and wanting us to succeed, they then bring in the king that loves his club and will do everything he can to win and bring back the passion and drive into the club and got us playing like a team.

We have a strong squad that is 90 mins away from wembely, a final where we have not been for 6 years. Still in the fa cup and still very much in the champions league race.

I could nt be more happy with our progress, players, manager and owners we was never going to turn around overnight was it and where getting there at a good pace, how long and endless money has it taken man city to get where they are 3 years or something so come on lfc supports do as it means and support our great team the king and co know what there doing and watch the success come rolling back for lfc in the near future.

James

Great post mate, well said.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

If your board then I'm chalk, lets get together ;) LOL

Top post mate, a lot of us realise this, but there are always doubters. But it's best not to give a s**t about them.
We'll keep the support alive for them.

Nice post James. Unfortunately mate, the instant gratification generation wouldn't have had the attention span to read a post that long. Good to read a positive post though, and I feel exactly the same as you do mate 100%

Seems fairly realistic to me, but I also doubt whether Johnson will go. Also if we signed Castiagnos on loan I imagine it's with a view to buy permanently in the summer.

12 Jan 2012 21:23:04
I have read a lot of posts saying that we are after Castaignos, Coutinho, Zarate, Sneijder and Obi from Inter. I can, in fact, reveal with absolute certainty that we will actually sign Samuel. He will play alongside Gerrard, Kelly, Adam and Carroll. Then we will make a move for James, Terry, Henry and Barry. Rumours of an enquiry for Neville are thankfully wide of the mark. There is an outside chance that Neal will return to the club in some capacity. {Ed009's Note - Thanks mate, always worth the typing time!}

12 Jan 2012 21:18:38
Just a note for anybody who uses talksport.net as a source for transfer rumours;

"Connor Wickham and Liverpool, Gazza and Man United, Gerrard and Chelsea: when footballers snub the big clubs"

and

"10 attackers Liverpool could sign to score more goals: Torres, Shaqiri and Jelavic and more..."

Haha, it's just hilarious...

merka.

.....but true. sadly.

12 Jan 2012 20:22:24
Can't remember who said it (might have been an ed, or just an avid forumer), however it seems last nights game put paid to the rumour that Glen Johnson is not allowed to play anywhere other then right back due to his contract. He pretty much played right across the back and it looked like a very short spell in midfield too!

Graeme {Ed016's Note - and the season he spent at left back last year}

Who was it then who made the comment? was it an edd or a poster. i thought he had to agree to play in other positions. any chance of clearing this up edds?

It was Ed001
Finisher

I may be digging myself a grave here but I think it was Ed001?
But i think he also said that the clause in his contract can be ignored if the player agrees to do so...

Myk (set himself up to be shot down) {Ed001's Note - yes it was me. It was what I was told, the person who told me stands by it, just keeps saying he must have agreed to play on the left.}

It's for EPL games and he played on the left last year before he renegotiated his contract.

I hate to say I told you so ed001 (not really. lol).

That he played LB last year was always the crux of my argument.

But now that everyone is convinced that the contract issue is nonsense I think there actually might be some truth to the claim that he won't play on the RW.

It made sense for him to move there (RW/RM) last night. Did he really not know where he was supposed to be playing? Or did he get RW instructions and ignore them? Either way, he looked pissed off for a while, and confused!

It seems that by nature I am just an awkward bugger..... Now I can't decide once and for all if the contract issue is for real until I see him bombing down that right flank, backed up by Kelly. Then I can put this issue to rest.

Can we officially start the Johnson for the RW campaign? (again)

If it worked out it could

(a) save us a fortune on a RW
(b) speed up Kelly's development/integration to FT football and
(c) give Flanno more opportunities to gain some experience (he can't stay 3rd choice forever).

Johnson can always remain a good option for either full-back slot too, but I'd love to see him given a chance there (RW/RM). He has proven pedigree there for Portsmouth - It was that dynamic form that got us to shell out near £20m (was it?) for him in the first place.

I think he's as good an option there as any of our other players - and could prove better than any of them in such a role.

Keep up the good work eds.

BJH YNWA.

You can get odds of 5-1 that Carroll won't get a look in against huth and shawcross on Saturday and then after the game the do gooder brigade will come on here saying he worked hard.

Ozone
{Ed016's Note - I agree Stoke will be very tough for Andy. It will be interesting to see how he does. But go on mate, you take a running jump at those two and see which way up you land}

I reckon it's odds-on Ozone isn't a Liverpool fan as he seems to prefer criticising the players than supporting the team.

That would be the game I would expect him to get the least amount of chances in. Huth and Shawcross excell against tall forwards.

I love the fact that people who support our players and team are referred to as 'do-gooders' what does that make you?

JRG

Anyone fed up of watching andy carroll? we dont need in the team, i don't see what he does?RedTurk

Carroll has already scored against Stoke this season.
Scouse_Pride

If we had one or even two wingers who could put it on a sixpence...i'd fancy Carroll all day against these two joe average defenders...as long as he has support ..to pick up the scraps....i backed players under Woy and we were s**te....we have much better players and a chance of sliverware,we have come on 1000% and are starting to attract the quality of player the club deserves...Ive stood by some crap players and trust me Carroll isnt one..

A realist JRG.

Ozone

You can dress it up however you wish. Ive been fanatical about Liverpool for 35 years. We're playing football now like we did back in the eighties, some of its breathtaking at times. Carroll is not right for us, he didn't want to come in the first place and I'd put my house on it that he'd do anything to get back to Newcastle.

Ozone

Anyone fed up of RedTurk and the pessimists? {Ed009's Note - I am sure Kenny would be pretty fed up with them if he read the site.}

Sorry chaps I've got that back to front, it should read odds of 1-10 that Carroll won't get a look in. It's a dead cert. if Carroll starts expect a nil nil.

Ozone

Every game is tough for andy carroll at liverpool fc, not his fault he doesnt suit us. If he had the ability he would be able to adapt but simply his movement, control, passing, heading, is simply not good enough. better for lfc and for carroll if he finds a club that suits him.RedTurk

No Ed, Kenny may put a brave face on it for the sake of good managerial practice, but I'd put my house on it he'd be acknowledging the criticism in his mind.

Ozone {Ed009's Note - Of course he will be aware there is a problem, he is far too smart a manager and man not to see that. But what he will be hoping and I dare say expecting is for Liverpool fans to do what they are so famed for, and back him till the moment he leaves the club.}

I agree redturk.

Ozone

Hmm ok mate, lets wait and see come end of season, how you feel about andy carroll.RedTurk

You still being bottle fed Ozone ?
Get a grip will you and try supporting the team

tel 1949

Aye up another do gooder in tel 1949. Do you post in that way to convince yourself your a true red or is it to get a here here off the fellow do gooder brigade.

Listen lad, I'll sing the Carroll songs all game if need be, he'll always get my support at the game as does the team. However, post match debate time I'll say it as it is.

Ozone

"lets wait and see come end of season, how you feel about andy carroll"

I can tell you right now how I will feel about Carroll at the end of the season. If he is still performing as he is now I will still be prepared to give him the time he deserves. I have seen too many players sign for Liverpool who I thought would be great and weren't, or who I never wanted and they turned out to be great.

I remember people like Clough, Heskey and Diouf having fantastic first few games/seasons for Liverpool and thinking they were the real deal but being let down.

I remember people like Kewell and Collymore signing and thinking they are the missing link but they turned out to be disappointments.

And I remember people like Lucas who I used to laugh at in his first few seasons as I thought he was terrible. He couldn't seem to pass the ball with any accuracy let alone tackle. But he has shown in his last few seasons what a great players he is.

What this has taught me is to give players the time they need to adapt to a new club and new surrounds and give them the benefit.

If you asked most Liverpool supporters this time last year 99% of them wouldn't have wanted Andy Carroll at the club, including me. But he is here now and I am prepared to give him time.

But what I object is people like you who have written him off without giving him a decent chance and call him lazy. What I saw yesterday was someone running their heart out closing down defenders and filling in the midfield when someone was out of position. He had terrible service all second half with balls either rifled to him you just pumped up in the air but he still flicked them on even though there was no-one within 20-yards of him. He tried all game.

You never know, with a bit of support and a bit of confidence he might turn out to be a decent player.

JRG

I always thought that you could say what you wanted about your teams players to fellow supporters and always back them on the pitch and to other teams fans. This site is supposed to be about Liverpool supporters giving their points of views to eachother, so why when someone gives an honest negative opinion do they get slagged off for not supporting the team. There is no way that any supporter can say that Carroll has been good for us. The pundits last night even said he didn't play well, didn't look fit etc, I suppose they don't know what their on about either.
This doesn't mean we don't support him in the ground so get a grip and accept other points of view without the wise cracks of "you mustn't be a supporter" or "don't come on the site then" etc
Finisher

I here what your saying JRG, that's a fair comment. I hope he does turn things around with time, I'd be over the moon. I just can't see it given the fundamental flaws in his technical ability.

Ozone

Ahh moaning Redturk and Ozone you two get a room. You both must have of some sort of erectile dysfunction, you two rain clouds of dooooom! Cheer up, all the best.

KNEE JERK

We are meant to be LFC fans, Finisher mate. We are famed for our support for our players, through thick and thin. This has been a rough couple of weeks for the club. We get a great result against the League leaders last night but still some players, are being shredded to bits?

We should all be thankful that the players are getting good results, considering the intense media coverage surrounding the club.

Luis gets more support from some fans and he's not even playing?

5 GOLD STARS

Yet these are the players that helped beat Citeh & Chelsea ( twice) & Arsenal. Throw into the mix, 2 draws against Utd & Citeh, both of which we should have won. All of a sudden your post looks a load of nonsense.

The Irish Rover

Arsenal, Spurs, United and to a slightly lesser extent City all have established teams with players who have been together a long time. We are a new team who have been together less than year, get a grip man.

You say the likes of Adam and Henderson wouldn't get into the other top teams but who out of those teams would get into ours? I wouldn't swap ours for any of Uniteds centre midfielders, Chelsea, possibly Ramirez but neither Lampard, Meireless or Obi. Arsenal I'd only take Wiltshire. City are the only team with quality throughout their midfield and yet our poor quality buys still managed to beat them at their home last night.

Perhaps if you didn't spend so much time criticising our players and more time watching them play you might appreciate the things they do more.

JRG

Too be honest, 5 gold stars is talking the truth, anyone who cannot see that our most underperforming players are the few british players we have paid over the odds for. downing- pretty poor, henderson- does anyone even notice him in a match? he will never replace gerrard, andy carroll- cant be bothered to say anything more, i think if you all watch the games he's in, you can see the amazing quality he brings, along with his amazing control, heading ability, awareness and movement.RedTurk {Ed009's Note - Henderson is pretty damn good if you ask me.}

How can 5 gold stars be talking the truth when it is only his opinion.

If you weren't so busy posting sh*1t on this site during a game and actually watched the players you might see what they are doing.

Listen guys i wish i had not got to post harsh truths but sso be it, too many lacklustre performances for lfc .

Spurs tried to sign Adam last jan, all the best.

KNEE JERK

Also Spurs bid i think £28 mill for Carroll before we did, your an absolute joke mate, all the best.

KNEE JERK {Ed016's Note - Agreed. @OP 'Arry was very interested in Carroll. I bet the media wouldn't be all over him if he was at Spuds. I am glad we got him. I am glad we got Lucas, Skrtel even Reina was questioned in his first season, before Maxi got a glut of goals people were absolutely calling for his head and wanted him out the club. We do not do what Chelsea, United and City do...we are doing what Barca did...if you can't realise we are building a team for the future it took Barca a while too, but we have the 2nd best academy in the world. If you watch the football the u18 and other youth sides play it is fantastic, obviously rusty because they are young but it is pass and move and close down and the movement off the ball is good too. I am Liverpool for life, so aslong as I see success in the future of my life I am happy, doesn't have to come tomorrow, or next season even. I really hope people do not think next season will be it. I know they will get back to the very top and be an elite power in the world of football, we have a good spirit around the club. I do not want anything to ruin what Kenny brought back, so if you can't even support us when we are doing well given the circumstances and get behind the players and the whole club. Because the future is extremely bright. If you can't see that then Manchester has two clubs you might like. ( and that is the last of my Carroll defending, I'm going to laugh at ignorance now.}

Brilliant post Ed016! Agreed with every single point mate.

Jatt YNWA

Your a good man ed016

Agree ed and even Pep Guardiola agree's he has been quoted as saying the only academy to rival barca's is ours. And a great deal is owed to Kenny and Rafa for the academy.

RedTurk, Henderson has made a fantastic addition to our team and whilst he's not even a full first team player yet, he'd stroll into United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea's team anyway.

I have to agree about Henderson i think he is quality and i like him as the attacking midfielder when we play three in midfield. He always seems to be available for a pass and his work rate is top notch always seems to be the spare man.

Sometimes his use of the ball could be better but that will come with time. He also as a really good range of passing and with Stevie G back can only see getting better.

Mighty reds

He also looks like he really wants to plays for lfc.

Hes got brilliant close ball control, and a real killer pass....hes gonna be a big star for us next season....

tel 1949 {Ed016's Note - quick feet and athletic too. He can only grow next to Stevie}

Agree, I can't believe there are some people still saying he is crap. We have potentially got another 10 years and who knows what he'll achieve in that time? He's by far the best young English CM at the moment.

They're still dwelling on Glen Johnson's "tackle" in the evening news coverage. Let's be clear it wasn't a tackle it was an interception as neither player involved had touched the ball never mind bringing it under control.

Redpath

Redpath it was a two footed lunge at the ball and in the rules im pretty sure a two footed lunge is a Card im a massive LFC fan but the way he jumped into it was unnecessary

MJ {Ed001's Note - two footed tackles are not mentioned at all in the rulebook, it is a nonsense spread by the media. If a tackle, whether one or two footed, is felt to be reckless, then it is a yellow card. If a tackle is thought to involve excessive force, then that is a red card. The number of feet involved is irrelevant.}

Even Mick "dither me this" Dennis of the daily express backed us this morning on SSN by reading the rule book and pointing out that there is no mention of two-footed challenges in it and that in his opinion after reviewing both the FA and UEFA rule books he determined that because the City player was clearly some distance away from Johnson when he atempted the interception it was a valid move and DID NOT warrent a foul let alone card. Crazy how some people are so quick to condem, especially our club and players after the recent happenings.

Anyway our best player is back to full fitness, has just signed a life time contract and our MVP will be back shortly and has claimed he will repay the support that the fans, manager and club have provided to him.

Finally just like to say Spearing creates balance in our midfield that no other fit player on our books can (bar Lucas). I'm not just talking about his harrying and tackling but more about his use of the ball and ability to spin, ride pressure whilst in control of the ball and pop off economical and intelligent passes with ease. Charlie Adam despite his sweet left foot and passing range, under pressure struggles to move the ball quick enough and is often off balance when the going gets tough. Against the lesser teams Adam is great but against physical & quick midfields the likes of City and Spurs, he is frankly a bit of liability. Even with a DM next to him I dont fancy him. I would like to see a young centre mid brought in that can play technically nearly as good as Lucas but has his own style and can add something different to the DM position - some pace and power maybe.

Red Otter

Also, and I'm shocked no-one has mentioned it: It was clearly a racist tackle! Look at the video evidence if you don't believe him. I don't care what color Glen Johnson's grandfather is. Minimum eight games.

Canadian Fan

Exactly ED001 If people could read they would no this just the s**tty English media chatting s**t.

I am surprised that Glen Johnson isn't getting charged with racially motivated assault.

But when the revolution comes, the Facebook crowd will be the first against the wall...... followed by the Twitterheads.

Not me though. They'll never get me. (unless they torture some of the eds to reveal my URL! aaaargh)

Anyway, I just wanted to say.

Its NOT potential we need.Its PROVEN!

In a striker role you are 100% right I think/hope Carrol will come good but it will be next season if we are to see a change

MJ

Just think, if all the 'potential' do well, we'll be unstoppable in years to come and back where we belong! Rome wasn't built in a day you know and yes, I know we've been waiting 20 years for a title again!

Keith

Potentially good teams/players since we last won title! ok with some success,but not consistant over the course,potential needs to be fullfilled! and is a two way risk,that aint brought Title=cold hard fact.

just a word on the fans on here saying adam no good henderson no good they said the same about lucas and the same fans are saying we need some one like xabi alonso one fact on xabi in his first season with he scored 3 goals yes he was a great passer of the ball but so is adam & henderson my self i belive henderson is going to one of the best midfield players now with stevie back he will learn even more just had to get this off my chest------liverpool till i die

Please mate can you really see jordan henderson being 1 of the best midfielders? i doubt you will ever see barcelona or real madrid come calling for him, the 1 player with real quality we have is suarez, him, enrique, gerrard, reina, and bellamy are the only guys we have who can attract attention, because they have that quality that is something natural, no matter how hard you train if you haven't got it, you just haven't, you can talk all day long about players being young, but surely you can see from early stages if the player has that bit of quality that will make them special.RedTurk

You cannot compare Alonso to Adam adams passing is rubbish compared to Alonso's

Totally agree redturk, oh your not a real fan for saying this by the way is what you will get off those on ere, no way will henderson be as good as a one legged gerard, people need to just face up to this,he wouldnt get into any of the sides competeing for top 4 r top 6 for that matter, if we get this coutinho n obv gerard is back n when lucas is in there hes a sub at best,

just a quick question aimed more towards the older posters amongst us, i was just wondering how good was billy liddell in his day and how does he rank in your opinions compared to more recent players, ive only heard good things but unfortunatly never had the pleasure of watching him due to being a youngen. Any info would be appreciated
cheers
Red Maverick

Father in law tells me he was superb.A legend who carried LFC at times,in a way,not unlike Stevie

Liddell was a strong, quick player who could head a goal and thump a good goal.
He used to build up his thighs running up and down the Kop steps at the back. And believe me they were steep.

I once saw him, playing against Bristol City at Anfield, race onto a pass just outside the penalty area and hoof it just as he was tackled. The ball burst, was booted into the Kop.

Now I agree that some rumours are way off the mark but let's face it this was the site that informed about Coates joining Liverpool so let's give credit to the Eds and Macca. A question for Alan, Finisher etc.

If you were offered a 1-0 victory last night before the game, would you have taken it?

Finisher you said that City only had 3-4 good players, playing last night? What 3-4 players, do you mean?

Hart (best English keeper)
Lescott (England regular)
Richards (quality player)
De Jong (half decent DM)
Barry (England regular)
Adam Johnson (quality player)
Aguero (one of the best forwards in the world)
Nasri (quality player)

I'll give you Dzeko, Savic, Clichy and Balotelli (injured). But apart from these 4 players, I really don't know what/who you meant. If you had said 'City only had 3-4 rubbish players, on the pitch last night' then your post/argument/bullsh*t, would have made a bit of sense.

In short lads, stop talking sh*t, stop being negative and get behind, the f*cking team. It's got lost somewhere amongst all the negative bullsh*t, that we are only 90 minutes away from a trip to Wembley because of our great team performance last night.

Thanks for reading.....

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Lescott is crap, De jong is average, Barry is rubbish so i guess he should of said 4-5 good players not 3-4

Well done Blair Mayne! True Red!

If you believe/read Alan50's, 5 gold stars and Finishers posts/bullsh*t, unnamed poster. That's 3-4 more good players than we have, some people are hard to please sometimes (so I hear).

Well said Blair, Also people need to remember this the same City team that scored 2 against united with 10 men, the fact that they didnt even get close to threaten in the whole of the second half says alot about KK tactics. It was great results , I just wish that Hart was a couple of inches shorter, else Gerrard shot was going straight in, and with 2/0 and with the home advantage its game over.

the reds will be up with the top four, but eds are we ever going to have the money for the likes of hazard. im a massive lpool supporter, the hurt for our best striker in the world and the passion of the club from a minority over the ridiculous racism rubbish, are players going to turn down moves to liverpool, because of that pratt evra.

I really wish people would stop banging on about hazard its simply not going to happen!

Good quote I read from Mark Lawrenson on the BBC website sums it up for me:

"As far as the American owners are concerned, they have said the money is available, especially if there is a player that is going to massively improve the team. Also, if a young player becomes available who has the potential to get better, they are more likely to sign this type of player."

hi guys great website. with Steven Gerrard signing a contract, us Liverpool supporters will be so happy when we win the premier league. i just don't know why we still have not won it. We were so close in the 2008/09 season but we had to many home draws and man utd got so many stupid penalty decisions. Lets focus on winning this weekend and not draw another game lol. what do u guys think?. Thank u and YNWA

The legend continues

Who cares the details of Gerrards contract he'll stay with Liverpool till he retires that's the most important thing.

What a legacy he'll leave.

Hopefully there are thoussnda of young kids on the back streets and alleys of Liverpool kicking a ball, all inspired to follow in his foot steps and one day maybe, just maybe, one of them will emulate the great man.

Great New for LFC.

Hopefully Carra will be likewise rewarded.

i seriously think when we either develop or build a ground that we should have statues of the truly great and influencial figures at liverpool, ie. KK, gerrard, paisley, shankley, rafa(? ok he didnt win much but he won the best cup in the world and sent us on a high for a year!)

im sure others will think of others so maybe we could have a row of them that line down past the entrance gates?

Read the statement on the club website, he is to become an ambassador once he retires.
This seems to confirm that he actually isn't finished like some people in the press were pointing out. Great news.

It's long term meaning after retirement. I felt last nights post match interview was almost managerial - for 5 years time.

The term "Arm chair supporter" gets thrown around this site on a regular basis, and I'm pretty sure most people who say it probably do most of their supporting from a chair themselves, but I can not understand why people think any less of a fan who doesn't go to games, it's not like Anfield is ever empty, there were a few games last season when Roy was in charge when empty seats were visible, but when you think of how we were playing its not hard to understand why! Anfield holds just over 45,000 and the club has millions of supporters all over the world, so it would seem the vast majority of fans are arm chair supporters, I myself am Irish and I'm a student(mature) and I manage to get a couple of games in a season, b4 when times weren't as tough and I was working full time I got over on a more regular basis, now I'd say if I go over 3 times a season it's costing me about the same as a season ticket when everything is taken into account, I have a jersey, I have a supporter club membership and yet I still watch the majority of the games from an armchair, does this make me any less of a fan? People need to realise how lucky they are to have a season ticket or the access to the stadium on a regular basis, I just think that thinking you are more of a fan with more of a right to voice your opinion because you are lucky enough to go to more matches than other people is downright arrogant, any way that's my 2 cents what do other people think?

Gman82

I agree with your point here Gman. Im Irish myself nd try to get over when I can. The last was when we beat the mancs 3 -1 at home.Such a good feeling as it is to be there, I really cant justify spending as much to go over as I used to. I think it is very arrogant to label some people who cannot for whatever reason make it to the ground as "a lesser supporter". The reason I supported Liverpool from a young age was watching the fans and the sence that you belong to something bigger than just a football club which IMO no other club in the league can say.

Gaelic Red

No armchair supporters = No tv revenue simple as that.

KNEE JERK

Cash is a problem for everyone,ive been laid off but go.Can be convenient excuse.I find the most mouthy regular posters on here hardly ever go.And maybe could respect views of us who go every week more than they do.Your level headed fans though.You have a chip on both shoulders!

Anfield has 45,000 odd seats. Liverpool have Millions of fans.

Do the math you unnamed jackass. How can millions of LFC fans not be armchair fans?

Also, by your logic - are the likes of that other jackass who was hounding that lad Adeyemi at Anfield by default better than the average fan who can't afford to go to games.

Are they really? That guy was 'better' until he got caught in the act - embarrassing the good name of Liverpool.

How can you say someone is simply a 'better' fan, just because they go to the game? All people are different. You have a very smallminded attitude.

For all I know you just sit in Anfield sniping and sneering about 'outsiders' and 'daytrippers', thats the impression you give me.

You ask for respect whilst making sweeping generalisations about millions of fans.

Fans who spend their money on all things Liverpool, who support the team in any way they can - these people pay the players wages too you know. They keep Liverpool alive.

Bill Shankly once talked of a non-political kind of socialism, where we all supported each other and worked together for a common clause.

That's the sort of talk that drew me to Liverpool - the sheer charisma and integrity of such a man, and such lofty words. He had a social conscience.

He certainly did not speak of the kind of classist, divisive, I'm-a-better-fan-than-you-cos-I-go-to-games system. Your words are vitriol.

Take a long, hard look in the mirror.

For shame.

BJH YNWA. {Ed005's Note - The guy who opposed "outsiders" I'm sure will not be happy with Suarez, Lucas, Reina, Agger, Enrique and all the foreign players playing for LFC. I expect to see him and those like him complaining about non-Liverpudlians playing for the club. I also expect they weren't fans of Shankly and certainly don't support Dalglish.}

First of all to all those slating the performance last nite. We won so shut up. We play great football and draw. You complain. We put in an ugly hard fought team effort and win and you still complain. Tell me one thing would you be happy playing great football and finishing 5th 6th or 7th every year or would you prefer hard fought 1-0 wins and have a chance or winning something. I for one would be happy watching scrappy 1-0 wins all season if it meant we a chance of the title. Look how many 1-0 the mancs have every season. You can't always play pretty football but you can always chose not to complain about it and get behind the team you people make me sick. And all those people are probably the same ones complaining about us not signing a BIG name but let me ask you one thing. How many people thought. Ronaldo. Alonso. Suarez. Rvp. Drogba and Henry were big players till they came to England. These highly rated players are only so big because some one gave them a chance. So let's give whoever we get a chance and maybe in 4-5 years real and Barcelona will be offering us 60-70 million. If you want glory now then start supporting city or man u coz ur not real lfc fans. Rant over enjoy the rest of your day and eds and macca. Great job love your work on here and to he real reds fans. Keep it up your the greatest fans in the world.

Well said mate.

Sooty

"We won so shut up"? As this is a banter page, I will decline your kind invitation.

The best way to defend a lead is to retain possession of the ball, not to retreat to your own third and spend an entire half clearing the ball.

It worked because we have a great defense at the moment, and because City were tired and depleted from playing Man U with ten men 72 hours earlier.

Hopefully, with time, we will build a team that doesn't rely on yesterday's tactics.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post I appreciate it and I agree hopefully we can win games like that in future by keeping the ball but we did what we had to do to win the game. I'm proud of the team for having the balls to do what they did.

Eric the red.

I agree mate, to go to the best home team in the league and win 1-0 is a good result. Especially considering we just lost 3-0 there not too long ago. People saying we were too defensive blah blah blah, if we had done that against barca you would all be hailing it as a masterful win.

We had a depleted team also, no Enrique, Gerrard has only just returned to fitness, no Suarez, no Lucas, and a team that has mainly been assembled this season.

It was a good result stop moaning, would you rather we played really attacking in second half and conceded goals?

People still slating Andy C? He didn't do a whole lot offensively against Man C, but don't discount his presence and winning headers, etc. This really interupted their play and slowed their typically lethal couterattack. I truly believe Andy is about to start firing. He just needs a haircut.

Maybe a change of hair colour would suffice some fans. I agree, he did quite a bit defensively and towards the end, what else could he have done, we set up to stop them scoring and he was part of that tactic!

Keith

Maybe if his hair wasn't so greasy and it bounced and blew in the wind, also if his name was Carrolldo people might see the lads putting in the effort to make it work.

KT!

Surely you want more from a 35m striker?

I like Andy, but please lad cut your hair.

KNEE JERK

We all expect more, no doubt. However, I watched him play several times for Newcastle and he was always dangerous, confident and a real handful. I think the main issue is that he is on a new club. The fickle fans who are slating him will all love him when he comes good, and YES he will come good. Do people here think Kenny and co. are randomly throwing millions of dollars around? Do you think NESN, a highly successful business group would let him? They have scouted intensely, and are fully aware of his potential and ability. Nobody can forsee how long it takes for a player to bed in, but for sure he will. I can't help but remember poor Lucas a few years back. He was the martyr of every game we lost! Now he is arguably our best player and most of us thought the season was over when he went out. It is hard to be patient as a fan. We all want results now. I am still reeling from a huge win against the best PL team, on their own ground. Carroll will shine. Give him time.

Coop

Right then so if he cost 1m would you expect and be ok with him playing crap? No right so price does not dictate what type f performance a player should give.

12 Jan 2012 16:30:35
Just reading some of the posts and whilst I can, to a very small point, see a little logic behind their thinking you still cannot criticise the team for last night's performance, or any individual player.

I am at a loss to grasp the negativity. The poster who says he goes and watches LFC for over 38 years and is as true a supporter than most can have his opinion, however I wouldn't expect someone with his experience to label the second half performance as 'pathetic'.

I think the issue probably (there's that nasty word again) is where fans are stuck between performance and results. Too many are looking for Ethiopia. Whilst the feeling before the game was that City, with their injury and suspension crisis, were there for the taking. However what that did was to completely forget how City have been performing up until that point.

It was only just before Xmas that many people, including many on here, who were saying they would go through the season unbeaten and likely to score 3 goals a game. They are, like what happens to every team throughout history, in the middle of a sticky patch.

With their quality, this 'patch' is likely to end at any time and sooner rather than later in any event. We cannot lose sight of the fact that just a few weeks earlier we lost a league game by a margin that would knock us out of the Cup if repeated. The killer 3rd goal came because we pushed on trying to get one back.

Everyone knows there is a style to play two legged games that take a horses for courses approach. We could not go and concede sloppy goals, it would be madness to concede a goal whilst 'trying' to pinch a second. Yes I understand the argument about trying to get this second goal, but the risks taken far outweigh the overall attempt.

Can we all remember the heartache in the QF of the CL against Arsenal when we were 2-1 up on the night and 3-2 on agg. with 8 mins to go, and we got caught by Walcott who sprung on us and we conceded. We got away with it that night but that was needless, poor tactics trying to kill the game off.

City, on the whole, score a majority of their goals counter attacking. Whilst it looks fantastic, free flowing, attacking football, in essence all they do is sit, break but break hard and with loads of pace.

They didn't break us down once last night. Yes they had chances but their best chance came courtesy of a magical through ball from Kelly. We got the earlier goal and sat back.

That says something for the confidence of the team. We are confident that if we score and keep a clean sheet, there isn't the risk to get another on the night because we will finish it off second leg. I'm happy with that approach. We kept it tight and compact and didn't stretch ourselves so City couldn't exploit. We didn't do what the opposition wanted us to do.

The last time City didn't score at home was in 2010. This gives an indication of the size of the task. This was how we used to play away from home under Dalglish in the 80's. Wasn't pretty admittedly and whilst everyone was pleading for us to get at them, if we had done, we wouldn't be sitting with a lead.

The lead is slender enough to ensure we won't sit back too much in the return leg. However they have to come at us and take the game to us. It's a tactic they are not used to and do not do as well as their favoured tactic.

All this goes into the pot. I would have thought a lot more praise would be forthcoming, but it appears some have lost the concept that City are the best team in the Country at the moment.

Even with the loss of players, didn't Yaya Toure say they have the ability to field 2 CL teams? Yeah I thought so. The City team last night looked strong, regardless.

Quality result. We worked hard and got what we deserved. If I had been a defender from LFC last night, I'd be high fiving all night long and then I'd come onto www.football-rumours.co.uk and lavish up the praise I had earned and then read posters saying the performance was pathetic?

Come on fellas please. I'm not saying you're a crap supporter but let's get those 'we have to play brazil 1970 style football whilst beating everyone 8-0' glasses off. I'm trying to educate my 13 year old lad who clearly did not understand why I was constantly nodding my head in the second half and saying 'yeap that's right Stevie tuck in, don't go' 'Charlie! Steady, get 5 yards with Stevie, good lad' 'Andy, c'mon first line of defence, good lad, well worked. Great stuff. Loving this, I am'
'Dad, why aren't Liverpool attacking? Why is that good work?'

Arr the ignorance of youth. What's your excuse?

Bob the Red

If we lose the 2nd leg at Anfield 2-1 after extra time, going out on away goals (perfectly plausible), will you still think we did enough in the away leg?

When City really looked there for the taking?

Its about risk or reward. We could have taken more risks, it backfired, and we lost 2-1.

We could have taken more risks, it worked, and we won 3-0.

I don't think it's naive or ignorant to think that we could have taken more risks last night and MAYBE got a better result.

I don't think it's naive or ignorant to want your team to play attacking football at all times. Barcelona do, so why not Liverpool? The obvious answer is we don't have the players, but do your players have to dictate how you play?

Swansea play attacking, passing football home and away. Do they have amazing players?

I delighted with an excellent 1-0 first leg away result. I will never be delighted to see Liverpool 'parking the bus', but especially when the opposition are down and you have the opportunity to kick them.

Great read as always Bob.

KT!

Ethiopa??? Utopia surely Bob

Chris in Tamworth

Could not agree more Bob.
No praise for liverpool today from pretty much all media outlets(to be expected).... but to see some on the comments on here really does make me cringe.
I think Kenny realised after an hour that if we could hold onto the lead then not only would it set us up nicely for the return leg but it also puts down a marker for the team. We beat MAN CITY AT THEIR PLACE AND KEPT A CLEAN SHEET...WITHOUT SUAREZ! It sends a message that we can beat the best team in the country and this has to increase the players confidence massively. Imagine the atmosphere at melwood today. I think if we finish them off at anfield it will set up the rest of the season for us and give us the confidence to chase the leading pack in the league.
Kenny knew the importance of a win over city and I am not one bit dissappointed that we parked the bus in the second half. If we win the cup then no-one will look back and say "yes but we parked the bus at city though".
jonnybarnes89-90

Ethiopia? Surely a spellcheck error, Bob?

Mr Benn

I don't understand people saying man city was there for the taking. Just one game ago, with only 10 men, they almost came back from 3 - 0 down against United. They are dangerous, and we had a 1 - 0 advantage to take back to Anfield. No disrespect for the team, but we aren't exactly firing goals from all angles this year now are we? We won the game and kept a clean sheet. There for the taking? we took it! What are you guys talking about? If we had gone on the attack (and note, with our defensive mid out of the game....) then we might have lost the game on the counter. Aguero can burn you at anytime, and I don't care if the lad just played 72 hours ago. He's in his early 20's!! When I was that age I could run for weeks! (well, maybe not me, but a professional athlete maybe).

Keep it up Kenny! Nice bounce back from loss at the same stadium a week or so ago.

Coop

OMG!! In an attempt to improve on my spelling i have taken to doing my posts on word so that Mr Benn, my English spelling teacher, doesn't chastice me too much. low and behold Utopia was underlined in red and it changed to that African Country Ethiopia and i didn't realise. I could try and say it was deliberate mistake but i'm still guilty of rushing through and not checking.

Sorry Mr Benn (and he was bloody reading as well!) Well spotted Chris :(

Bob the Red (gutted now)

Utopia by any chance ps utopia is not a country in Africa.

Great news, Steven Gerrard signs a new long term contract and will see out his career with us!

What bigger signing could we

Hey Eds

Any news about the stadium?

Thanks

Marc {Ed002's Note - Nope.}

12 Jan 2012 15:57:00
Eds or anyone...As I am a Yank there is one thing that I've never really understood about that transfer period. Why are player swaps so rare? I've seen plenty of situations where they would be effective. I.E. Meireles for Sturridge in the summer (wishful thinking on my part). It just seems like those types of things should happen more often. They happen in all of the sports here in the States. {Ed002's Note - It means more parties need to agree and therefore makes it more difficult.}

I suppose that makes sense. In sports over here, when you get traded you don't have to sign off on it (usually) or negotiate a new contract. You just stick with the one you already had.

12 Jan 2012 15:55:36
Hi Ed's gerrard has signed a new contract extension, do you know any details of it or length? {Ed002's Note - Nothing, sorry.}

Do not know how long it is but Gerrard is 31 is he not? John Barnes played until he was 36 and other players do now as well. With a good medical team we may get another 5 years out of him?

12 Jan 2012 15:49:41
Must be a lot of "youngsters" here.

Hendo is 21 and Andy is 23....thats not bloody old!

Unless players are DAS WUNDERKINDS like Fowler, Owen, Rooney, Ronaldo etc were most players dont hit their prime until their mid to late 20's.

Andy just needs some confidence, some help up front and some hard training in the off season and he will be fine. Hendo will be a England star of the future and a possible future captain of the club.

If by 25/26 he's not lived up to his potential we can palm him off like Crouch for 15m.

Also in general it takes a lot longer for a target striker type of player to learn what he has to do overall and become world class ie in Andy's Case

Also Gerrard was good when he was 20 ish but not close to the near god he was when 25-28 ish imho

Ska-oop

Die Wunderkinder, actually, but I'll let you away with it.

12 Jan 2012 15:26:26
I go slated on here last night for saying that I thought we were pathetic in the second half. It's funny how fellow posters jump to assumptions that cos you aren't happy with a performance, that you don't know anything about football, don't go the match or mustn't be a supporter. Well I can assure you that I do know about football, do go the match(for 38 years) and I am as good a supporter that is out there.
My main point about last night was that, in my opinion, City were there for the taking. They didn't really have anything to hurt us so we could of finished them off and made the second leg easier.
I really think we made a big mistake, they looked short of ideas without Silva and he'll probably be fit for the 2nd leg.
Let's hope we perform against them at home and that our fans raise our game and make it like 2005 against Chelsea.
These two games against the msncs should be flag days and lets have a good YNWA with scarves all around the ground.
Finisher

I for one thought kenny and steve got their tactics spot on, we seen the two sides to our game last night we can play and also defend excellent team effort.

gee man

I agree it wasnt a pretty second half for liverpool and we may have been too defensive minded. However City have the potential to score at any time and as John Barnes put it last night it would be a different story if we had pushed second half and only left with a draw.

Personally i'll take the same in two weeks! Sometimes football is about getting the job done!

Gaelic Red

It was a great defensive performance by us. But let's not get carried away. When you defend as deep as we did, you are usually asking for trouble. We were lucky City were too tired and depleted to take advantage.

12 Jan 2012 14:59:38
Does anyone else think that it's strange that 3 key players Suarez, Kompany & Terry are all in trouble because of links to Manchester United in some way. (Evra, Nani & Anton Ferdinand) Each situation has massive question marks over it. Just a thought.
KernowRed {Ed002's Note - Try the Conspiracy page.}

Does this make United part of the Illuminati?
Know i know why they're the Red Devils!
Thanks Kernow.

KT!

There may be some truth in this. Not a conspiracy thing, but whenever Ferguson speaks, the media world always listens. I realize he has become an institution, but the amount of respect he receives in the media (and the FA) is ridiculous. Ferguson talks about the referees publicly every time United lose, and he is never (ok, rarely...) penalized. I don't care what the Mancs supporters say, it is quite obvious that Ferguson gets more leeway than most managers.

Further, Ferguson likes to stir the pot as evidenced by his lack of approval of the way Liverpool handled the Suarez situation. He was trying to get a response out of Kenny, and I am glad kenny left it alone. Benitez tried to challenge Ferguson a few years back, and ofcourse, the media were all over him like he was a lunatic. Frankly, I can't wait until Ferguson is out of football altogether. He's a great manager, especially his ability to maneuver the refs and the media.

I read an article on ESPN recently that quoted Ferguson as saying Suarez got a justified banning. 8 games for saying someone is black? While we are all anti-racist, we all know that there was a small 'war' going on between Evra and Suarez in that game, and having been outplayed, Evra took the opportunity to take what Suarez said out of context and turn it into a racial bashing. Probably wouldn't have gone further than the gate, but lucky for Evra he's got one of the most influential names in Football to back him, Mr. Ferguson. Once Ferguson got involved, I will argue it was a foregone conclusion.

I apologize for the rant. I know all about the independent review, Suarez inconsistency, etc. What Suarez said was inappropriate yes, and the Mancs took every advantage of it. Or was it all for global anti-racism? Oh right! My mistake. Well done Ferguson!

Coop

I agree the media all give in to alex f an stuff always seem to go his way.

Come on mate, Ferguson kept his mouth shut during the Suarez case and didn't say as much as he normally would because I suspect he thinks what we all think but has to defend his player regardless.

DaveyBootle

He didn't completely keep his mouth shut, having essentially asked for an inquiry and then when the sentence was laid, he said it was fair (even though the rest of the world save the anti-racist coalition felt the ban was over the top and unprecedented). His boy Rooney kicks a player on international television, while representing his country no less, and gets a 3 game ban, only for that same ban to be reduced after appeal. I know Rooney isn't Ferguson, and England aren't United, but you must admit this is interesting. Anyway, enough of the Suarez talk. Wouldn't be surprised if United try to sign Suarez in the next transfer window!

Been saying this for years i can`t wait till he`s gone and 'DaveyBootle' are you for real? Fergie frogged marched evra down to the ref`s room after the game and demanded an inquiry into the situation he`s the one who blew this up on a major scale and i`d nearly put my house on it that he told evra to get it in while doing his interview just to get the ball rolling in the media circle and low and behold it was latched on to and suarez never had a hope from there i could go on and on there`s loads of things i could say i despise the man..fergie out..JG..

i heard the other day on the radio that eric cantana is trying for french president.how can this happen after he karate kicked a fan.ive seen alot of bad things in football and that has got to be the worst.what do you think eds?

redricho {Ed002's Note - Don't believe everything you hear on the radio.}

It was announced afterwards that it was a stunt to bring attention to the homeless situation in France. Before there are any stupid comments Cantona is working on behalf of other people. He may be touched but let's give him some credit for this good work.

It was a ploy to get people to visit his website, which was a link to a web page to get housing for the poorest french folks, or something of that ilk...

Watched the game last nite and i understand some fans frustration with andy.c, and after all he,s are player and were all allowed opinions.
What really annoys me are the comentators and pundits, they slag andy into the ground and say not worth 35 mil, but dont say same about baloteli at city infact last nite they were saying ,doesent do much but is a wonderfull talent ,and what a character hes loved in the prem now.
I dont get it ! hes been crap and didnt city spend a lot on him as well

Mart.P

He scored in their last 8 matches that he has played for them

Tbh Balotelli is way superior than Carrol and cost less than him . I think 25m

Make that eight out of nine!At the same time I do think that someone at Liverpool should sit Carroll down and explain the situation to him. There is now only one direction that he can go and that is down. No team above Liverpool is going to sign him. He has to understand what he has got and change his image. Cut out the drink, cut and the hair, and GET YOURSELF FIT! He has a lot of potential and it's about time that he realised that. He has in fact scored some good goals for Liverpool just not enough of them.

To Jatt,Mikey,Blair,Rocky,Keith and all the others who disagreed with my comments over the ABYSMAL and Dire 2nd half performance last night may I say that the mighty BLACKBURN recently went to O.T,did they play like what we did in the 2nd half with 10 men behind the ball? did they just sit back and defend?were they not away to another top team in the league.

Bottom of the league and hey went there and scored 3 goals in.
The FACT is we have played very defensive football at times this season by sitting back and inviting teams to attack us,this is why when we do go forward we NEVER have enough players in the box it's always 1-2 players and this why we nave DROPPED so many points AGAIN to the lower teams like Sunderland,Swansea,Wigan,FulhamNorwich etc

REST MY CASE

Alan50

Alan
We kept a clean sheet at the Etihad and came away with a 1-0 lead to take back to Anfield.
I couldn't care how we win as long as we win.
Has anybody else kept a clean sheet against city at there ground?

GOOD POST

Yeah Blackburn are a great example - a team who have conceded 22-goals, lost 12 of their 20 games and won only 3 games.

How many more times could you replay that game before Blackburn won it again? It was a freak result. We laugh at United for losing it but these things happen.

If you had bothered to watch any of those games you listed you would know that we dominated all of them and deserved more from the game. In most of those games the opposition keeper has been MOTM so how can you say we're defensive?

JRG

Alan50, I agree totally with you. They only had 3-4 decent players last night and we should of won by more
Finisher

Alan
Why CHOOSE one game played BY one team as an EXAMPLE of the WAY we should play LOOK at the relative LEAGUE positions!

Redpath

Were 1-0 up half time in this match and I for 1 would much rather be going to anfield 1-0 with city knowing they have to attack than go knowing that we were 1-0 up but lost 2-1 after going for it when we didn't need to. City were frustrated and are gonna go all out at anfield which should leave some space for us to play i think if we get another at home in 2nd leg then tis is game over and I will be ecstatic with a scrappy 1-0 win at home and a day out to wembley because that then takes the pressure of securing european football off us by march leaving a big push to improve our league position with less pressure. I may have been scrappy (tactically well played imo) but people only remember success not the way in which it is gained.
Carlos79

In reference to the post saying they only had 3-4 decent players last night.
Hart.... best keeper in the league with the exception of pepe but on form you have to say hart is better at the moment.
Richards,lescott savic and clichy.... The centre halfs are poor but the full backs are quality players. Barry and De jong with milner and johnson on the flanks with nutcase and aguero up front. 3-4 good players my backside.... honestly!

Afternoon Ed's good site enjoyed reading it for a long time well the people who know what they are talking about!
Quick question pls, read a bit on here lately about Glen Johnson having a clause in his contract about only playing right back, but last night he started at left back and then moved to a couple of positions in midfield {Ed002's Note - Not sure what the question is. If is is simply "why" or "how can that be" then the answer will be "we don't know".}

The Clause states must play RB if fit however the clause only covers EPL games! Hence why he played left back among other positions last night and didnt play at all against Oldham.

My feelings on the GJ (non) sending off is that it was completely the correct decision. For me it was not a tackle but an interception. If it had been a tackle it was a certain red card. Glen was pushing his luck jumping in like that given the recent outburst of red cards from trigger happy referees. People have been sent off this season for alot less, but that doesn't make those decisions correct.

On the game, We were superb 1st half and 2nd. We outplayed them totally in the first half and contained them in the 2nd (they were always gonna come back at us). How many times in the second half did they stretch us and get in behind our defence? There was the Richards header from a corner, The sloppy back pass, and an Aguero header at the death, Everything else was played in front of us.

Onwards and Upwards

Tommy Walsh

On that very wet slippy pitch. I'm amazed there wasn't more incidents. In fact Gerrard pulled out of some 50/50 tackles. Good idea, don't want any injuries to him.

compare henderson to players of similar age n positions in the prem , ramsey wiltshire cleverly rodwell james mccarthy , now if you had 20 million n had a option to buy any one of those along with henderson who would you buy> and henderson has been playing in the premier league for 3 seasons almost , just wondering who you would all go 4, i would not pick henderson over any of them
5gold stars

MAYBE wILSHERE would get the nod all things being equal but , I would take Henderson over the rest of them .

Qwerty

You do realise we won last night don't you? I'm just checking as every post from you today has just been absolute negative garbage.

Henderson cost £16m not £20m - you tell me which of the players you have listed would have been available for £16m. McCarthy and Rodwell are being talked about at +£20m. Do you think Ramsey, Wiltshire or Cleverly would have joined us even if we had bids accepted when they Champions League football?

Henderson was one of our best performers last night - he was putting crosses in with his left foot, worked hard for the team and kept possession of the ball.

We're challenging for fourth spot in the league and have just won the first leg of a cup semi-final. Grow up.

JRG

Leave the Lad alone!!

Henderson has doing well. Cleverely is very injury prone. Rodwell, Ramsey, Wilshere would cost more than 16M that we paid for Henderson. And McCarthy isnt as good and could cost less beacuse Wigan need him. Plus Henderson was capped by England.

Out of all them Wilshire is the better player.

The order i would take them;
Wilshire
Hendo
Cleverly
McCarthy
Ramsey
Rodwell

KT!

NO WAY IS HENDERSON BETTER THAN RAMSEY, HE COST 5MIL FROM CARDIF. henderson value is 16 rising to 20!!
he aint good enuf!!

Cant believe you would place ramsey 2nd to bottom of that list! Either him or wilshere are the best followed by henderson and cleverly and then mccarthy and rodwell!

It's called an opinion mate, i didn't say they are definatly better like you said cos that would be me trying to make an opinion a fact lik you've tried.

Hi Eds, this is one for the banter page really. I'm not talking about any rumours.

I just want to talk about the progress the team has made under Kenny, and a point that I think a lot of people are missing.

I've been a Liverpool fan for 40 years and I remember the way we used to camp in the opposition's half of the pitch, with wave after wave of attack.

I also remember that in the last 10-15 years we have failed to dominate games. Even on occasions when we've beaten Man Utd for example (perhaps with a Danny Murphy goal), we've conceded a lot of possession and won because we were dogmatic and snapped at their heals.

The current Liverpool team is dominating games again. We are having the Lion's share of possession in nearly every game and outplaying the big teams for large periods of the game. The only team that has really dominated us this season is Spurs, and they're a damned good team who were playing out of their skins.

OK, we can't say that every signing has been a huge success (remember Rushie's first year? or Toshack's?) and we've had some frustrating draws and definitely need a striker, but no-one wants to play us. We're creating chances, hitting the woodwork, being unlucky on occasion. But how satisfying is it to see us dominating games.

Now if we're focussing on last night, then OK we conceded a lot of possession - but that was only after we'd taken the lead and were playing tactically in a 2 legged game. We dominated until we scored.

Get some perspective reds.

Brian YNWA

6th is perspective, 11 ponts of tottenham with no proper striker , gerard again looking our saviour again as usual , were did we finish last season? n look like that again, im not bashing the players as d didnt ask to be bought , hate putting a downer on things but thats d real perspective on things really, oh we may have a lge cup final, LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB

Hi Ed's, Macca and Posters,

Been a while since i posted on here and its been great to catch up on all the gossip after my vacation. Thank you aswell Macca for the information, we will wait and see on how that story develops. A great win last night too, abit disapointed we closed up shop so early, i think there could have been another goal to be had as Savic, especially looked like he was way out his depth. But we got a win, which is the main thing and a clean sheet which is equally as satisfying.

A belated Happy New year to all, and may the sucess of last night continue

Am i on the right site here, whats with all the moaning? Isn't this only the second time City have been beaten at home all season, to have the nerve to complain about scraping a 1-0 victory away to the current league leaders is amazing.
Yer the second half was all about defending but after receiving a 3-0 beating the week before you can't blame Kenny for being happy with 1-0, everyone should be happy with it! In the second half Glen Johnson was outstanding, iv'e criticized him before but last night he showed why he's England's number one, it shows he can do it i just hope he performs like that more often.
Also i see Carroll is getting hammered yet again, i'll be honest i'm not his biggest fan but that doesn't mean i constantly put the lad down. I find it hard to believe people still support some players so poorly especially after seeing Lucas turn out so well, he was a hate figure for some reason with many at Liverpool and now he's a probably one of the first names on the team sheet, is it not just easier to support players from the start?
You just have to look at the post by The Real KB with players suffering from depression lets just get behind every player and see how they get on.

And finally its great to see macca post a little bit of info, and he's obviously right not to give a name this time. I mean he said a player from Inter and everybody goes wild posting nearly the whole squad lol.

always a red

Great post

I honestly think that if we had signed andy carroll for what hes worth ie 12 mil tops hed b in good form. I think his heads gone with the pressure of trying to live up to his 35m price tag...
Feel so sorry for the lad

I think it's the fans, he must hate coming out to anfeild knowing the first thing he does wrong is going to end up getting the crowd shouting abuse at him... At the Newcastle game he made a mistake in the 7th minute and some guy sat in front of me was shouting and looked like he wanted to murder his family... 7 minutes disgusting...

We should have goen for the loan deal with Robbie Keane... ideal squad player to bolster our attackign options.

If Carroll gets injured - we've got Kuyt and Bellamy (who's got a dodgy knee)

We need a top notch goal scorer, not a bench warmer.

Have you seen Italian Football?

I have to watch it on (x6) on SKY+ to make it the same speed as the Premiership!

I'm nervous when we bring in players from that league!

I do dispair sometimes with the comments from LFC fans (if indeed that's what they are?) about Andy Carroll. Given we bought the lad to play up front with players playing of him how many times can you say that has actually happened, 3, 4, 5 maybe at best. Yes he looks like he struggles at times, yes he looks like he selects the wrong ball/position but he is still adapting to a new club, new team and a new environment. The kid put in a good stint last night, battling away up front on his own against two/three defenders for almost 50 minutes plus, he battled and won headers, he chased lost causes, he was even chasing back for the team on a number of occasions. I think so far the service to him as been pretty dismal (note SG's cross against the Toon and how AC out muscled and out jumped the defender only to see his effort crash against the bar! how many crosses has he had like that?) my point is give him the right service and I am more than confident he will score and cause problems for opposition defenders. Also it clear to me his confidence is low (if he reads this type of site no wonder!) and he needs a boost from somewhere, a goal, maybe even the crowd chanting for him, but he needs something......lets not forget, he didn't set his price, he wanted to move here to play for us. I seen an early post comparing him to Agureo, Tevez, how stupid is that, is like comparing Suarez with K Jones, P. Crouch, they are no the same type of player........-TMac

Aye, it's Lucas all over again. I hope Carroll is just as mentally strong as Lucas, but if he knuckles down and works hard it'll eventually fall into place for him. Brian YNWA mentioned Rush and Toshack as examples. If Rush, who signed in Dec 1980 but didn't score his first goal until Sept 1981, or Toshack, who only scored 5 goals in 21 league appearances in his first season, have made it as Liverpool greats Carroll has every chance of doing the same considering the start he's had to his Liverpool career. The onus is completely on him. I've said it from the get go we need to be patient and support the lad bearing in mind he's only 22 and on a five and a half year deal - and still yet to peak in his career. I honestly believe it'll work out for him though.

Money can only buy so much. Liverpool tied a rope around that fruity "Blue Moon" and pulled it down. Didn't see a blue sea in the crowd though with all the empty seats - reminds me of the stadium when Keegan and Pearce were in charge - empty, like a library.}

A while back we were rumoured to be interested in Loic Remy.But he then went to Marseille.Who now want around £20m for him.A tad to much.
Why if we have not looked at Yannick Sagbo of Evian,don't we?A much cheaper option,for similar qualities.
Surley we have a good relationship with them after selling them Poulsen?What you think Ed's? {Ed005's Note - I'm sure we're looking at plenty of young talent.}

What else would he mean? People are just being stupid and trying to interprete it as Internacional from Brazil as they want the player he is talking about to be Leandro Damiao. Surely to goodness if we got him he'd be a major signing given what he would cost. People need to stop being deluded. Sorry for the outburst but it is frustrating editing these posts when people should just read what Macca said.}

Did anyone watch that programme on the BBC last night about depression affecting sportsmen/women ?
Although I'm not sure on the merits of Freddie Flintoff as its presenter, what was interesting was that 10% of the UK population will be affected by depression or mental illness in a given year.
And this includes those participating in top level sports.
Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager, and Graham Dott, the snooker player, both spoke particularly poignantly on the illness.
Lennon conceded that players within his current squad are affected.
If the national incidence figures correlate, at least one of Liverpool's First Team will be similarly stricken.
Who knows who this player / is or are ?
There is a human dimension to managing a football squad, and it is not just all about tactics, formations and money.
Sometimes, we as fans, forget that. Yes the players are very well paid and all, but there might be an individual or two out there in a red shirt that might be fighting an altogether different battle.
So, from that perspective, I was struck by the programme and the issues it raised.
The players are human and are not immune from the problems that the rest of society face.
The Real KB

I'm more worried about one or two of the squad causing me depression! lol

I am a huge red fan. have been all my life and i suffer from a severe depressive disorder and it's one of the hardest illnesses to live with. It makes normal things like walking to the shop or going to someone's birthday party a 100 times worse. So for a top player in whatever sport to have to deal with it is unreal, it just shows what guts and mental strength they have to carry on doing what they do at such a top level. i admire them all.
Dale B

I never watched the programme myself, but i have/do suffer from depression myself and it is no walk in the park. Depression can strike anyone from the unemployed to the £100k a week worker. It doesnt have to be work related, it can be related to anythin and depression is a hell of an illness. I used to love gettin out of bed and gettin on with daily routines, but now i look at things i used to love and think 'nah, i'll give it a miss' So for any football player to suffer from depression and still go out week in week out and try to perform, i give them full credit to for doin it because it cant be easy, and it certainly will be made harder by fans. The problem with todays fans, is they have no respect for players, 1 week they could love the player, the next week they could hate him, players are people too, not machines, people seem to forget that, and after a long Mon-Fri week, most fans let their pent up anger out on the players performin badly without a 2nd thought as to how it might affect them. Yes, these players are highly paid and should earn their pay packets, but they are humans, with human feelings and emotions and fans need to remember that.

Well done Stevie G for pointing out Mancini's hypocrisy . He's captain material that lad.

You do have to admit that Glen's tackle was terrible though.

RenegadeRed

On any other day, Glen could have been sent off, it was a 2 footed lunge, wheter he won the ball or not, but Manchini cannot say 'Kompany's was never a sendin off' and then try and get someone else sent off for the same reason. I understand his frustration that his player was sent off and Glen wasnt, but you cant have everythin your way

Love the Carroll bashing on here, just makes you sound extremely pathetic. On one hand you want him to improve, but are not willing to back him... good one.

He ran his socks off last night, never had the best of games due to Kenny opting for a defensive approach once they got an early lead. As a target man he held the ball up at times when it was played into him, but never really had men over lapping, he did on one occasion, only for a sloppy pass to let him down (we all make mistakes).

What i'm trying to say is that he can't do much without the service, even Suarez wouldn't have been effective in that game because of the tactical approach i mentioned. Give him time, let him settle into the system, the service and goals will come naturally.

YNWA Stark

Totally agree with you stark the lad fed off scraps all night longhe didnt get a chance to do a thing its a shame people cant just try support him give the lad a break he came with a injury he,s having to adapt to a whole new system a new part of england im not saying he,l come good but i hope he does it seems like most people made there mind up about him before he came all i can say is as long as he,s wearing the red strip of lfc ill support him if it doesnt work out than fair enough but while he plays for us lets get behind him

This '' service '' business is nonsense really ,
Henderson hit a fantastic cross from wide left in the first half last night , Carroll could not locate the penalty area . {Ed005's Note - Didn't know every single striker in the world apart from Carroll is in the right position every single time a cross it put in. Its both - he hasn't been good enough but he hasn't been getting the service. If you can't see that you need to stop watching MOTD and watch a full match.}

I totally agree that carroll isnt getting the service.if he had the shots on goal that suarez has had he would of bagged loads.liverpool dont have the wingers like man utd and spurs to supply the man.we seem to go through the middle apart from the odd runn from bellamy and enrique down the wings.give the guy more service and he will deliver

Everyone slating Andy about last night clearly doesn't have a clue. He was up top by himself with 40 yards between him and the rest of the team. He won every header that came his way, holding it up when he can or knocking it down to non existent support players. He's not Torres he can,t play off the shoulder up top by himself. The way we played yesterday played to the opposite of his strengths. But he worked like a Trojan didn't stop running and put a good shift in for the team. He looked frustrated and fed up at times, wouldnt you be if you were fighting a constant loosing battle? The lad did well for the team, came very close with a very difficult header and rolled Savic very nicely and nearly scored on his weaker foot. A massive improvement in terms of attitude and mobility and all round game. But you guys just keep on slating him. Well done lads, badger off back to Fifa where you can spend 50 million on a player and not grow a nurture young talent. rant over. No matter how well he plays you wont get off his back, so frustrating Eds!

I have and always will defend him but he didnt win every header and his knock Downs whereof a consequence of a bad touch and not the other team mates.

You do need ability agreed, any player would have struggled last night in Andy's shoes, fair some of his touches were bad, but if he had support and people bursting on to his knock downs then we would all be praising his ability. It is very hard to shine when your up top by yourself. To the chap with no name stating its a load of rubbish. Perhaps you should watch the game rather than coming on here and slating every one. Then you are perhaps entitled to an opinion.

Hi Ed016, I am loving your banter, you need to stay on our page man/girl? on a footballing note I feel that Hoilett is not worth 6 bob much less 6 million and I do not know what all the fuss is about, seen better Sunday league players. If we go for Costaignos I will be equally disappointed, he is no better than any of our reserves or under 18s at the moment so don't see the point. Hope it is a creative player rather than a striker that Macca is on about as I believe Caroll needs to be given a chance to prove the doubters wrong. I personally think the move was too early in his career, but being on the bench week in week out can't have helped his confidence. Cheers mi dears. Hi EDS and Macca.
I don't lik to give that much sympahy to people, but I am going to make a exeption to you guys.
All this talk about the Eds and Macca, on how great they are, blah, blah, bloody blah. And yet you and Macca have said 1 player will arrive, but people on here still insist on asking you about other signings.
which clearly are not going to happen.

IMO kenny and Commoli have had plenty of money in the summer and KK will have to get on with it.

If we don't qualify for the CL then John Henry will be pointing the finger at KK and co.

Don't be surprised if we sign anybody in Jan. The further we get into this window, the less chance of us NOT paying over the odds again, and of course there is less time to negotiate.

IMO we will qualify for a top four spot and win both the Carling cup and FA cup but it's clear we don't have the squad to win Titles yet and must qualify for the CL if we are to attract the sort of players than can take us to the next level
Ithink kenny has done ok and it was going to be difficult to move us on as we were prety s**t the last two seasons. Ok we are not that great now, but we are making headway,however we look like at the moment, that a big transfer purse will be necessary.

Take care
Good job EDs and Macca.

Has anyone considered that it may actually be Luc Castaagnos?
19, dutch and plays for inter. A loan deal was mentioned previously by 1 of the national rags but this might now be permananent.
Just a thought.
Eds your on fire today, what are your thoughts on this, be gentle with me! {Ed005's Note - Well I, as any Liverpool fan, love knowing information however just take everything with a pinch of salt and wait to see what happens. Personally I hope it's Coutinho. Think we're crying out for creativity and someone who plays further up.}

If it was Coutinho, do you think he'd fit in with Suarez ed005 ? They wouldn't be taking the same space ?
Although it could be said that Suarez had been dropping too deep lately, we need him to causing his damage farther up the field.
If it was Coutinho also, Gerrard could drop back and play the Alonso-type role. Even offer some defensive cover to the back four ?
I hope Spearing isn't too badly injured mind. Maybe a 2/3 weeks shot. But his departure last night did cause us problems. I like Spearing. I hope his luck improves cos it's a bit stop/start for him with this injury and the red card.
The Real KB {Ed005's Note - To me Suarez could go into a wider role, not as a winger but as an inside forward type. He is more than capaple of going on either side and Coutinho could play in the hole. Gerrard could start in a deeper role as he did last night, and it worked well. Henderson played further up - and De Jong had to mark him and keep in eye which gave Gerrard a lot of room to make things happen. Could be similar with Countinho or anyone who could play in that position for that matter}

Zarate

I'm liking it ed005.
So you'd have :

Suarez
Coutinho
Downing Henderson Bellamy
Gerrard

Sort of thing. That right ? Suarez as lone striker / inside forward, with Coutinho coming through ?
The Real KB {Ed005's Note - Not really mate, I wouldn't have Gerrard that deep. Perhaps a 4-2-3-1, with Lucas alongside Gerrard when he's fit next year, Suarez is one of the wide areas, with a winger on the other side, Coutinho behind a lone striker. However atm I'd have Spearing alongside Gerrard.}

1st make your mind Mancini. as you claim that Kompany wasn't Red card . we agree that was may be a yellow not Red. But Company go 2 foot strait to the player. Nani have to Jump otherwise he may hurt badly. and Johnson was slide from side , he won the ball clearly, City player is nowhere near the Ball. you still claim its a Red card ? and Gerrard is Right . the other day Mancini claim Rooney ask referee to take the decision. and Referee show Red Card. Now you ask to do the same to Referee ! So its a clear Hypocrisy Mr. Mancini . find a better excuse of the Lost and Think about EPL. otherwise you may lost The EPL too.

Roman-Red {Ed001's Note - no, Mancini said that is Kompany's red was a red then Johnson's has to be, which is right, they should either both be red or neither. I think you need to watch his interview rather than reading badly edited versions.}

Out of gerrards torres johnsons and kompanys.....kompanys was the least dangerous...

I would have thought it is Coutinho that Macca talked about.
But i got to read some stuff that both Coutinho and Castaignos is to young.
And if that's not enough the same people say that Zarate is a bit to "old".

Then it's the remaining ones:

- Poli
- Obi
- Alvarez

Really don't know if there's any truth to it but I see that in Danish,Swedish and Norwegian sites this is what's the new thing so....

Please can we stop with the Andy carroll coming good delusion..........put it like this.....Aguero 35m, Tevez 25m, Suarez 26m, need i go on?........I know the fee is not his fault but at least lets have some reality on here........We really do let our hearts rule our heads at times at LFC

Moron. All the players u mention have 2-3 years on Carroll + European experience. Carroll was basically a championship player when we got him. You can't count 1 season as prem experience and he has no experience at the level he's playing now so it makes sence to me to give him till this time next year befor we can say how bad/good he is. He's 23 for f£&k sake he's getting used to a new life. New town. New team mates. New manager. Need I go on. His mum probably still did his washing befor he came to us give him a break and judge him this time next year.

Eric the red

You obviously understand nothing about transfer fees and when they can be grossly over-inflated, and the real cost of a transfer - fee, wages etc.

You're right mate, Aguero really lived up to his price tag last night, so did tevez, oh wait.....

I think kevin nolans missus did his washing for him lol he was living with nolan before he signed for us

Well u dont pay 35million on potential!! so what if hes only had a half a season at newcastle , we should not have bought him, if we had the time again and any of you had 35 mill to spend not one of you would buy carrol n nor henderson the master of energy n the backward pass,

I reckon big Andy would look a different player with a good shave and a decent haircut! He wouldn't look such a plodder to most then. I actually think there's been progress. He wasn't that bad last night to be fair however, his first touch needs to be worked on (shades of Babel there) and he needs to 'bully' defenders more. On the plus side his pace is improving. We defo need to improve the service to him - no doubt about that. I think he'll come good in the end. Feel sorry for the lad - huge price tag and lots of expectation. Ed, just heard that Barnes & Rush are making a come back to help ease the lack of goals. Based on last nights lack luster performance and our new defensive formation of 5/9 at the back, maybe caroll will have more chance of scoring on his PS3. How is he supposed to get any chance of goal if he isn't given the service. To me Henderson is way out of his league, can't pass, can't tackle and was chasing shadows for 90mins. Downing, very much the same and charlie adam, well enough said. We are short of 4 or 5 quality players who will lift us to a top team, this current team will not get us any further than a potential League Cup final (which will be nice if we do the s**tty). {Ed001's Note - great to see you are so positive, with backing like yours we are a shoe in to win the cup......}

I never like to see people slate our players! you should support our players through good times and bad times and have a thought that our players that you are slagging so much may read these comments that you make! do you think that would help them? YNWA Support the team,the manager and the owners with positive comments and success will allways follow! KING KENNY

I agree with the henderson thing, cant blame the lad as he didnt bid 16-20 mil for himself. hes juast not good enough for our ambition(if im not mistaken top 4??) , id rather play teams like bayern milan n real madrid as appossed to facing crystal palace. cup is nice dont get me wrong but to attract these eriksen type players you all keep wishing n mentioning on here the champs lge is minimum, dont mid carrol scoring , how many goals have we got from midfield?? how can anyone praise henderson,

@Ozone
Seeing your our the football guru of this site you'd know that ,Andy Carroll has a tterrific left peg,he doesn't just swing at things as you posted.
You mention about his aerial ability also. Did Ron Saunders not teach you that more goals are scored from crosses then any other way in football,a statistical fact. I'd say being good in air is a distinct advantage,not essential but its gonna help. His confidence ain't all there but to sham his shooting and heading technique along with his running with the ball which isn't exactly what we bought him for now is it.
Also You say Douglas Bader was good in the air,well me thinks you've copied that statement of a certain late,great Bill Shankly.
Come up with something original for a change like,great attacking display first half,great defensive display second half,1 foot in the final of the league cup.That would be nice,instead of concentrating your efforts on one player after each and every game. You probably couldn't trap a bag of cement either mate,that's why your posting instead of playing.

Culligan

Hes crap

I heard the 'Duncan bader' phrase off Tommy Docherty as it happens. Same era I presume one of the characters in football back then coined the phrase 'trap a bag of cement'. Either way, until I see Carroll do something remotely worth suggesting he has ability I'll stand by my opinion that he's useless.

The only thing I'll give him at this time is that he has no 'mans strength', although he has a big frame, he has no strength. That may come in the next 2 or 3 years as he grows into his frame. His game may benefit from that. We'll wait and see.

I guarantee now that he doesn't get a sniff against Huth and Shawcross on Saturday. Nil nil all over it.

I don't understand why there are so many posts about this Macca rumour. It's obvious that he's a young foreigner from Inter Milan. Probably Castaignos or Coutinho, surely there's nothing else to be said until it happens . . .

One other thing, Macca is generally very reliable and doesn't have to give us any info so why don't we just get off his back asking about it. But remember, he's the first to admit that he doesn't know everything so I'm not ruling out there being another signing (what with the obvious need for a midfielder, winger and forward and possible injury to Spearing as well as Lucas)

Anyway Ed, do you think Liverpool would seriously loan a young player? Doesn't seem like the best way to build a squad.

{Ed001's Note - yes we would, sometimes you can't buy the player you need, loaning in a player to fill a short term gap in the squad makes sense.}

BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE. Interview with BBC in Oct 2011...
Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes has disputed his reputation as a bad tackler, revealing revenge was behind a lot of his aggressive challenges.
Manchester United's Paul Scholes sees red after a collision with City's Pablo Zabaleta
Scholes, who retired at the end of last season, was considered by many a wonderful footballer but his tackling ability was always a point of debate.
The 36-year-old picked up 145 yellow cards for club and country between 1994 and 2011 and was given his marching orders 10 times during his career. Despite becoming notorious for his bad tackling, Scholes does not accept criticism of his unique defensive style, claiming he only over-stepped the mark when he was "getting people back".

"Of course I can tackle. There's plenty of evidence of being able to tackle," he told BBC Radio Five Live. "I was just getting people back. If someone got me early in the game it was always in the back of my mind that I needed to get them back. I didn't always do it on purpose, some of it was just bad timing, I suppose.

"But I think throughout my career the record wasn't that bad, there were not that many yellow cards. Well, I suppose a few yellow cards, but not many sendings-off. But I think towards the end every time I made one tackle I got booked, because of my reputation."

Andy Carroll - hate to say it but he was useless again last night and please, please, please stop saying that he is only young - he is 23 years old!

Carroll is simply not performing up to the standards required of a LFC striker - very few goals and no assists, and very little skill shown at all. He should be judged just like any other player ( it makes 0 difference what he cost - that is simply NOt relevant at the moment) and if he is not performing simply drop him down to the reserves and let someone else who IS performing or who COULD perform in that role be given a chance to show what he has.
This is the EPL and KD is manager of LFC - names or irrelevant - as he has stated many times - its only how LFC as a team is performing and it is HIS JOB to pick the players that ARE performing and drop those that are not until they regain their form - as happens in any other pro sport .
He cant - and many of you also cant - keep saying "oh he will come good"
THis is NOT practice or sunday arvo football in the park - this is EPL and there is a HELL OF LOT OF $$$ at stake here - as well as prestige as well .
Im sorry but KD attitude is simply not acceptable - play PLAYERS IN FORM AND DROP THOSE THAT ARENT IN FORM UNTIL THEY FIND FORM !
VERY VERY SIMPLE! {Ed001's Note - good job you aren't a manager, you clearly have no idea about man-management. Sometimes you have to support a member of the team, keep the team together and allow them to learn to work together, as a team.}

That is young.

The pension is not far away for him

I would be interested to know which of our in-form strikers should have played last night instead of Carroll?

JRG

23 is too old for fantastic player...just see owen,gerrard,fowler,messi,ronaldo,pato,hazard and others...what age they become fantastic...just think...

If you think 23 is old OP how old are you?
11-12 maybe?

Good result last night, i see the bashing has started already, for me Carrol had no chance last night... His touch was terrible, but he was getting balls blasted to him and no one with in 20 yards of him, one ball from Kelly went into the box and he managed a chance, he was getting played in down the line and stuff, now the Carrol I remember from Newcastle was not running in behind defenders, he was scoring in the box from crosses, we surely must have the worst cross succession in the top 10 of the PL. until we get decent delivery we will see this ANDY Carrol week in week out, I thought he worked quite hard though which was a good thing, same as Henderson, didn't think he played great last night but he was forever running and closing down space, which is all you can ask for when it's not working.
Good result and if anyone fancys a pint at the next leg I'll be there.

It seems as though LFC are being linked with a number of strikers presently.
This got me thinking,
1. Has a offer been received and accepted for Luis Suarez, it would be sad to lose such a brilliant player, but situations being what they are it is, a possibility.
2.Are the club looking to sell AC, maybe as he is not ideally suited to LFC's new style of play.

It would make no sense to bring in strikers, and then have them sit on the bench.

By bringing in two to replace two, we are back to square one.

Surely attacking right winger, creative midfield, and a goalscorer (striker) are what is needed.
Right now, I would settle for a goalscorer to improve our chances of a 4th place.
As things stand we are not scoring enough goals to improve our chances of a UCL place
Your thoughts Eds.
Food for thought. {Ed001's Note - I don't understand your thinking, clearly we need another striker, if someone goes then we would need yet another striker as well.}

Hi Ed 01, let me clarify.
LFC seem to be linked with at least 2 strikers, are these to supplement current team or to replace.
If LS were to leave then a replacement is needed, if AC were to leave then a replacement as well.
It seems (though speculation is rife) that more than 2 strikers are linked with the club, so if there are 3, then 2 to replace LS and AC and one extra.
At present LS is serving his ban (so no contribution there), and honestly AC is just not a LFC player (he is more cart-horse than race-horse).
Thus I speculate that the 2 I mentioned might be leaving, and 2 replacements and 1 extra brought in.
We need goals, and to be fair to AC he does not get the service he needs, and thus is somewhat ineffective. So if goals are needed and our best player (LS) is out of action, urgent action is required.

In my personal view, AC and LS will never work, so that needs to be addressed.

I watched the Arsenal Leeds game, and just marvel that Henry after a number of years out of the EPL and at age 34, can make a impact after 10min.
I understand that Arsenal had him on a intense conditioning program, it shows his willingness and passion to perform, unlike others, who try as they may never really look fit enough or fast enough.
Granted Henry is exceptional, but then again LFC is also a exceptional club, and we require players who can rise up and perform.

Sorry to say this, but 24 goals in 20 games is not good enough or deserving of a UCL place!!. {Ed001's Note - we are linked with hundreds of players, does that really mean anything? Most of the links are nonsense made up to fill space in papers or get clicks on the net. We are looking for one striker, if someone leaves, Kuyt being the most likely right now, then they will be replaced.}

Just a thought.......If we are in talks with Inter to sign/loan a 'good young talent' should we not push our luck and try to get two. Both Luc Castaignos and Coutinho would add something extra to our squad. Under KK both these players could become awesome.

I will admit straight away that I am mostly an armchair supporter these days and that having a season ticket for twenty years in the seventies and eighties doesn't really entitle me to an opinion , but I'll give it anyway .

I have racked my brains trying to think of a worse individual performance than Carroll last night , going all the way back to my first match on Boxing day 1966
( H Chelsea 2-1 , Stevenson , Hunt , having also beaten them 2-1 on Christmas Eve ) .

I can't bring one to mind . What is wrong with the guy ?
Why can't he run ten yards without falling over ? Why does he sit down on the grass so much . Why can't he find a team-mate with a five yard pass ? Why doesn't he move ? Why can't he outjump an opponent six inches shorter ? Why do decent passes just bounce off his knee ?

Even Istvan Kozma moved from time to time . I know I can expect a torrent of abuse , fair enough , but if answers to any of these questions can also be provided , I might just understand why this guy is in professional football at all .

Ritters

Ritters, I must admit I agree with most of your post. Now before the "support you players" brigade come out I want to make it clear I will support any player that puts on our shirt and have been willing big Andy on every game he plays. I didn't see to much at Newcastle but am assured by a mate who is a Fan that he was quality. He mut have been to have been penciled in as one of our summer targets before we had to move early for him.
This leads to what Ritters is saying and what is going wrong? Even when strikers lose confidence and nothing is going right they still can play football to a certain level. Last night I though Andy was awful. Yes he had little service, but he didn't seem able to pass the ball, run with it or do the basics of holding it up. He leaves me so frustrated, surely a lack of confidence can't be the only cause, it's as if he fell asleep and forgot he was a footballer.
I know many will disagree and want to ensure that you know that this is only my opinion. I would love nothing better than Andy to prove everyone wrong and show his true ability.
Andy the red.

Explanation: early-onset dementia. Go see your doc

Ritter, couldn`t agree more. Yes he was isolated last night and he didn`t get too many chances but surely his basic control and fitness should be good? it isn`t.!

By the way you forget the most important question starting with WHY,

Why is at LFC at all.?

matt b

Why don't you write a letter with all your questions and address it to Andy himself - send it to the club and it'll reach him. If/when he replies you can come back on here and tell us what he said. Are you brave enough to do this?

Maybe his heart's not in it.

Maybe his heart back in St. James Park!

Some footballers are on club men.

Ashley forced Carroll to move.

You are correct. 20 years with a season ticket and you don't have a clue.

Andy had one of his better games yesterday. Some positive signs there (I explained this elsewhere).

BJH YNWA.

I've heard the FA have issued a new directive. Any Liverpool player passing the ball to Andy Carroll will be booked for time wasting!

Why is everyone against carroll over the last 4 or so games he has panicd wen he gets the ball whoxh sound stupid as he is a pro footballer but he has a bit more composuer now he will come good just needed gerrard on the pitch to rally the players up everyone was on lucass back to and now he one of thw 1st namrs on the team sheet give him a break and get behind himfor once

The only difference was Man U started with 6 defenders.

Ed if we sign luc castiagnos, do you think that he will be the only striker we sign as he is not a comparable to the other players we have been chasing eg sow, de jong, soldado? {Ed001's Note - it is very likely we won't be able to get our targets in January, hence the move for a loan signing.}

12 Jan 2012 09:41:21
People need to STOP slating AC! he will
come good once he's had a decent run
in the team, WITH some good service
and maybe some support from the fans
wouldn't go amiss. Too many fair-weather
fans who love him wen he scores... Same
with Suarez!

12 Jan 2012 09:39:36
Straight from the horses mouth, hes going no-where

"I want to win a trophy for Liverpool," said Suarez. "When I came here the team hadn't been doing so well, but we are a much better squad now and we are capable of winning a trophy and getting back into the Champions League.

"Last year I was lucky enough to win the Copa America with my country, something which I never thought I would do and we made history.

"Now I want to win something with Liverpool. When I'm back in the side that is the aim and would be the perfect 2012 for me.

"I was so excited to sign for Liverpool. It was a dream come true and I hope for a long career with them. I grew up watching them and they are a club with such a big history, especially in the Champions League."

Hi Ed are u happy with the news of a young player from inter or this january you was expecting something a little bit different because there are positions that really need to be looked at ie right wing with pace
{Ed001's Note - it is January ahead of the Euros, the targets are difficult to persuade to move. This January is very likely to be a damp squib for everyone the way it is going.}

12 Jan 2012 09:18:38
Thanks for the info Macca got a good debate going.
Well i'm going to throw something into the melting pot.How about it's Sniejder then we would be able to push Gerrard up as a striker/attacking midfielder.
Just think Gerrard and Suarez up top.
Great site and great work by the EDS.

12 Jan 2012 09:18:06
Macca ! you really have got our little red brains ticking haven't you. Inter player ? already mentioned on the site ? obviously we are in the market for a striker and although Castaignos would seem to fit our policy of young talent, Zarate would also make sense as he has played in the league before with Birmingham. For my sins I would suggest that we need the following -
RW - Adam Johnson please or Junior Hoilet
Striker - De Jong ? The Inter man ? or apparently a loan move for Estoban Granero ?

Macca Help us please !

Kenny Dog-leish

That is a terrible poster name if you're a Liverpool fan mate.

12 Jan 2012 09:10:31
Morning ED's,

On the back of Macca's post I would just like to put forward my interpretation on who will be coming:

I think it will be Coutinho for the following reasons:

1) Inter's current compliance with the non-EU quota and the Tevez saga.

2) Liverpool's transfer policy.

3) Our current needs within the squad.

4) A potential golden partnership between Lucas upon return and a Brazilian counter-part could make for excellent understanding.

At a guess I'd imagine that this will be a loan move with a view to make the deal permanent in summer depending on performances and appearances, considering Inter will probably also not want to give away a potential superstar without a decent return.

Complete and utter guess, not claiming to have a source on this and it could be just as likely be Luc C considering our need for a striker. But I hope it's Couti!

Cheers Macca,

RobbehLFC

12 Jan 2012 09:08:39
If you want to be a top team you need at least 3 top strikers. So even keeping Carroll we need two more as Kuyt is not really a striker & Suarez is more of a number 7 man. A top goal scorer would take the pressure of Andy. Berbatouv can sit on the bench at scum for 32million & not a word about it. Andy will come good but in the mean time we do need some strengthening. Shane Long would have been a great signing at the time, but this is what Camolli is being paid for, there has to be value in the market out there.

Josek

What u saying?? berbatov is sitting after 4 years..he scored 20 odd goals last seaosn? have u forgot that? lets be honest..carolls ball controll is wors than andy voronin...we dont need some only to head it down and chest it down..common its not 1 or 2..5th time he was one on one wit ha GK..

12 Jan 2012 08:59:34
Hai Ed...great workk......
Fantastic night..and fantastic game...wembley..here we comes...
we did well..infact we played brilliantly..sometime u need to be diffensivly against some good opposition away games...
we will sjow them what we are when they visit anfield..
positives...
our defense..is sublime..agger and skirtel..are the best..gerrard back..and teaches how to take a penalty against the best...
Impressed with henderson..
negatives...we aremising lucas like a hell...OMG..there is a saying.."value of eye can only be measured wen u loose it"...
Spearing is good...but we need someone like him...

the only difference between us and city is goals..and KK knows it..we need a striker..
forget higuain, cavani..they are not gonna come..
liverpool is a young team..we dont have too many world class plyers with us..and we dont needto buy..
we will buy players like podolski, and dejong..adn we will make them world class.
plsyers who came in to us..are from smalla clubs..coz they will never win anything with their current clubs..adam, henderson ,downing. enrique..
and most..they want to play..rather go to city and warm their bench like nasri....

buy a striker..adn possibly a DM...and we are done..and leave gerrard behind teh striekr..10-15 goals he wil ltake care..

You will never walk alone...

Quick question for edd01 or 02 please. We have been told that AC is on a personalised fitness schedule and i honestly don't think we will see the benefits of this 'til next year. But do you think that he has lost a bit of his physical presence and strength. I see alot more running and tracking back off him but he does n't always bully players through brute strength. I know overall its not bad but do you think once he reaches a certain level of fitness that he will have a strengthening program?

Taffytel {Ed001's Note - yes, I am sure his strength will be worked on.}

If he aint fit yet!why t f did we spend that huge amount on him?

Great result last night lads. Some excellent performances as well. But Andy Carroll . . . please, please, please Newcastle take him back cos he is awful.

Nice try, Geordie, but he's ours now

Couldnt fault the lads performance never stopped hustling and held the ball up well, could have scored early on but harte made a good stop your negativity irks me

Morning.

So the media frenzy begins. Glen Johnson's tackle was horrendous apparently.

Looks like they are looking for retrospective action. No yellow, so it can be looked at again.

Maybe they can look at Piggsy's tackle from behind against Kun from the weekend too

Pathetic.

D-Day (1892)

You can sort of see where there coming from, we would be outraged if it happened to us, it was worse than kompanys but in my opinion it was a great tackle, if you get it wrong, fine, then send him off

If the F.A. can kick us now they will do. My answer will allways be the same. Don,t come knocking asking us for favours. Liverpool has a history of being fighters and have long memories. Do your best but we will allways get back up and come again.

Hey,

So it's been a while since my last posting.

Quick question, is it me or does AC look a bit out of his depth ? I really think that he is finding it hard to fit in and do his business. I'm getting frustrated as I am under
the opinion that a player costing 35mil should be banging
in the goals eyes closed.

TeeJay96

Forget the 35mil, the prices of torres and carrol last year were deeply rooted in each other and never fair reflections, and besides, its not your money.
just think if he were free (which he is to us now) would you want him? i imagine there are lots who would still say no. i have always thought he will come good for us and is still young but his inability to do the even the simple stuff last night worried me...

Why post rumours up on a rumours site when you say you cant name any names?.........rumours involve names of players who weve heard rumour that they may or may not sign!...........come on Mr Macca we can all play that game............

The guy is posting definite info, not rumours. Play that game if you can.

Macca,s info is not a rumor its usually fact from the club, hes usually spot on so don't shoot him down he doesn't have to come on here and give us anything, there is also allot of people steal his info and make it there own so i don't blame him for not putting a name!

Are people watching a different game to me when they say big Andy is one for the future?....which future?!......I seriously know sunday morning players who could hold the ball up a sight better, never mind who are a sight quicker.........just because we signed him for big money dosnt mean hes going to cut it!.....Veron at Man utd anyone?.........get over it hes awful and will never make an LFC striker while hes got a hole in his backside.........Im LFC through and through and i back ALL our players to the hilt whatever the circumstances but im afraid im tired of seeing this fella........its depressing

You're not LFC through and through are you and you obviously DONT back our players to the hilt

cozinoz

Well your doing a great job of supporting Andy to 'the hilt whatever the circumstamces' mate, you should be proud.

davethebutcher

I'm willing him to succeed but I have to agree AC looks really poor at the moment. Im still crossing my fingers it's confidence and he will get back to the menace he was at Newcastle but for now I really can't see it. Hopefully it's another Lucas situation, really struggled at first but then turned out to be one of the best midfielders in the league. ( I hope so anyway)
Djjj

To be fair the tactics weren;t playing to anyones strength especially Andy Carroll, we had a job to do and the tactics acheived that, woudl ahve been nicer to have got a couple more early on, but keeping a clean sheet and a vital away goal could see us at Wembley.

Fraid your wrong ive followed this club for 35 years and im entitled to my opinion same as anyone else.......If hes LFC class then im a monkeys uncle, I just wish people would stop being deluded, if he could even run in a convincing manner id be sold on the improvement line....hes really shocking

Well said Cozinoz and Kb(who admit)Rarely go,think their font of all knowledge on here.THeir your not a Red posts-pathetic!Its a f in forumn!What do they want?your great lads,so right.How boreing.When will people man up=its about opinion,it makes game great.Even if it is nonsense

12 Jan 2012 07:45:00
People said Lucas wouldn't make it! Unfortunately for Andy he has to score goals to prove himself but its up to Downing, Enrique, Bellamy and Johnson mostly to supply him with quality service, they haven't provided that for him which doesn't help. If people think he wont come good they are foolish, before we signed him everyone was saying he'll be Englands top striker! Now people turn their backs on him. The way i see it, we paid over the odds for him (not Andy's fault), he's still only 23 and still in my view has bags of potential.

-------------------------------------------------

Wheres the potential in a lad who trips over his own feet when he runs with the ball for more than 10 yards? Wheres the potential in a lad whos inclination is to just swing a boot at the ball when he gets an opportunity to strike? People keep saying he's good in the air, well Duncan Bader was good in the air. He can trap a ball further than I can kick it. He's useful as a squad player thats it. Granted the price tags not the lads fault but its in the public domain and going to weigh on his shoulders forevermore.

The pundits choose their words wisely when asked about Carroll and half the time are answering through gritted teeth. Apparently off the record its widely acknowledged that he's just not good enough to rely on getting 15 goals plus a season.

Ozone

Here's the resident had trial's with Birmingham or some crap spouting his crud again. Knowing so much about the game you'd think you'd have clocked that its a sstatistical fact that more goals are scored from crosses in football then any other way. So i'd say being good in the air is a distinct advantage. Less with the plagiarism regarding Douglas Bader as well,we all know its a quote from the great Bill Shanly,fool.

Culligan

Who the hell is Duncan Bader?

If you're going to take the p1ss out of one our players at least get the name right of one of this countries greatest war heroes correct.

In my view Carroll done OK last night. He was feeding of scraps for a majority of the game and worked tirelessly to close down the defenders and fill in the midfield when someone was out of position.

He is not everyone's idea of a Liverpool player but while he is here he will get my support.

JRG

Aye up the do gooders are out in force. Ten house points to you both for such loyalty, good lads.

Ozone

Who are you pair trying to fool? Worked tirelessly? Everytime he had a burst of energy he either tripped over the ball, passed to a city player, stumbled. When he gets his mans strength, he'll be useful coming on as a sub when we need to park the bus to defend a lead and that's it.

Not surpised captain Marvel Stevien Gerrard had a go at Mancin. Like Gerrard said double standards. Rooney was accused of getting Kompamy sent off,Millner did the exact same albeit not quite as prolonged as Rooney. Man City appeal Konpany's two footed challenge which was a lot closer to Nani then Johnson's on Lescott i think it was.
Think Johnson deserves's a special mention,had a lot of stick recently. Made a great tackle on Aguero to boot,thought it was his best game in ages. After Mancini waved his card like a petulant schoolboy in the league game trying to get Skrtel sent off,like i said i'm not at all surpised Gerrard took exception to the City's manager's recent behaviour.
Quite a few moaning about the second half but how many times this season have we smashed teams and come away with nowt whatsoever. Be happy we've got a great chance of silverwere for the first time in 6 years. Still a lot of work to do mind,ours to lose though.

Culligan

Agree with you there, his best game in ages and looked defensively solid

I'm not sure he would of said any thing if he'd heard mancini's actual interview. it was the way the bbc interviewer portrayed what mancini said made it seem worse than what was actually said. Good to see him sticking up for his team tho'.

g-doo

I think Gerrard say a very good point Mancini did a hypocrisy here. he blame Rooney for the red card now he did the same thing. then why he blame Rooney ?

This is what I cant understand about spurs fan. You measure success on being third in the league! (yes I no joint second but if the league finshed 2moro where would you be! I Rest my case) and getting into the champions league to get knocked out.

And I know you beat inter in the second half but the match is judged over 90mins im afraid.

I think Arry is a fantastic manager who has spurs over performing! Will it last? time will tell is suppose! However I think not!

Do people not know Andy Carroll is only 23?

The big tall lanky types take a little longer to develop.

Klose from memory didnt really hit his straps until 25/26

Klose wasn't 'BIG', lanky..yeah...and he was a way better footballer than Carroll.

AG

What age was Messi when he started or Maradoona or Fowler

I though tactically KK was spot on.

Got the goal and shut up shop in the second half.

The Carroll haters need to STFU... prob the same people who said similar thingsabout Lucas.

He, Stevie and Lucas will all have monster pre-seasons in the middle of the year and be fully fit and firing for the next campaign.

As an Aussie I would love to see a charity match of Liverpool legends in honour of Brad Jones' son.
If it does happen I hope we get to see it here.

And why do people question Macca? He is THE MAN, he is the one IN THE KNOW, people just need to be grateful that he shares. Love ya work Macca!

It really makes me proud to look at all these posts and see how disappointed people are with Liverpool putting in a defensive performance. It just goes to show how much is expected of our fantastic team. We are one of the rare few free-flowing and passing teams left in the game. We really do have the ability to keep possession and dominate the game. No team is out of our reach once we perfect a few little things. Fantastic performance and great result. We can only expect better at Anfield.

macca thanks for the info btw,,,,also i heard italy only allow x amount of non eu players, and with tevez set to join then maybe the player you talk about is a non eu player...ie coutinho...maybe a loan for zarate???

ynwadave

Why do people mix up inter milan and ac milan, is it so difficult?

Tevez could well join Inter mate

Red Ollie

My bad, I only heard of AC Milan interest before...

Team v Stoke

Reina

Johnson Skirtle Agger Enrique

Adam

Downing Shelvey Gerrard Maxi

Carrol

Subs Bellamy Kuyt Kelly Doni Henderson

Spearing doubtfull Suarez suspended

Agree with Carra on the bench instead of Kelly

Maybe Hendo over Maxi? Thought he'd played very well last night.

No leave hendo on the bench

Love the 1-0 win. What is funny to me is a lot of people saying how great the tatics were in the second half and that we played a great tatical second half. Seems to me everyone gets upset when Stoke does the same thing to us. What will everyone say if it happens yet again this weekend. Will they say great tatics or will everyone whine and say they don't play real football with all 11 behind the ball. Just curious. Can't have it both ways!!

Difference is Stoke do it all the time, we did it to fend off the best attack in the league and protect our lead.

Private message to Ed on duty!

I jus wanted to say sorry for the many posts i have made this evening keepin you awake/busy! All your work is appreciated, thanks very much and enjoy the rest of your morning/day/evening where ever you are.

Thanks again.

It's funny really, journalism. After the dust settles and the opinions are formed and allowed to become concrete, it's safe to offer an alternative opinion. Where was the voice of reason when it was required.

As a big Tomkins fan, I can at least rest in knowing someone knew.

Read this link, ask yourself where were the voices when Luis needed them.

Wouldn't mind some skill like this in the box...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HBVfGfGQLM

also eds i saw the following tweet before... should be charging more for advertising! this site is famous!

@Rednigerian so some dude called Macca from football-rumours.co.uk says we're signing a young attacker from Inter. He's usually accurate.

{Ed016's Note - we are already millionaires}

12 Jan 2012 02:57:56
its gonna be coutinhos for sure

12 Jan 2012 02:56:50
After reading Macca's posts it is fairly obvious who the player is.

"Good young talent from abroad":

Player is not from the EPL and he is young

"Plays for Inter":

Narrows it down to 1 team with players who are young.

"I believe there will be one coming in that has been mentioned on here before and in the press":

Note the KEY word "BEFORE" so it must be Coutinho from Inter Milan. Castaignos is currently linked but Coutinho was mentioned on here before.

I could be wrong and it could be Luc Castaignos and I might be over analysing the "Before" part of his quote.

Anyway

Cheers for that Macca

I would be very surprised if it was some else though.

I think it is coutinho....cos if u think italy only allow x amount of non eu players...and with tevez set to join them they may need to get rid of a non eu player ie coutinho lol

I don't think we're out for an attacking midfielder, hence I think its Castaignos

RenegadeRed

Yup, really, I had forgot about Tevez's possible deal there. May be it can be Coutinho. But fingers crossed atm. Hope, that our new signing would make a good impact here. YNWA

12 Jan 2012 02:47:55
Has rafa put in a word for us? Coutinho played regular under him and now ranieri is there he can't get a game. Rafa loves us so I'm thinking he has got this deal in motion. What ever happens. Who ever we get he will be a red and I will support him but I really hope it's coutinho the lads got some real skill and an eye for a through ball could be just what Carroll needs think gerrard would benefit from a player like as well. Please no stupid comments it's just my opinion and it's just banter but it makes perfect sence to me.

12 Jan 2012 02:38:35
It seems fairly obvious who macca is referring to. How good is he though, i have not really seen him play much
Also out of interest whats macca's correct/incorrect ratio like?? Better than min, i know!
gboy

12 Jan 2012 02:07:07
got a feeling coutinho will join initally on loan with a view to signing for around 8m due to macca not wanting to unviel the name and we will get junior hoilett will sign deadline day for 4m as kean wont wanna risk him leaving for free in july. p.s macca will you release the name before ssn ?

I really hope its coutinho. i think he is about to come out of his shell in the next year and he could terrorize teams

An open letter to Luis Suarez

I am sure I speak on behalf of many, many Liverpool Supporters.
Please do not leave.
We realise that this must be a very difficult period in your life and you are faced with basically two choices.

The first choice is to turn your back on all of this and move away from England. This would be the easiest option and you would probably make a lot more money out of it as well. Where-ever you went you may or may not be heckled by the Crowds over what has transpired. If this was to be your choice I personally would wish you all the best and thank you for the excitement and passion you brought to Liverpool over the last 12 months.

Choice 2 is the harder choice, but comes with rewards that are not available anywhere else in the world. The chance to become a Liverpool Legend. This is something that can never be bought for any amount of Money. With this choice you will no doubt be subject to crowd abuse in away fixtures but I guarantee you the support you receive at home games will be second to none.

You have dazzled us and put hope in all our hearts with your outstanding play and passion for this club and I believe you are already half way to becoming a Liverpool legend. Should you make Choice number 2 and stay with us you will immediately be more than half way there. This one choice would certainly make you my most favourite of Liverpool Players.

I plead with you to stare adversity in the face and stay. Stay and become what you are born to be – a Legend in the halls of Anfield. There have been others before you who chose the "easy" path and I have no doubt that they all fully regret making that decision. Please do not join this list.

Yes, you are walking through a storm at the moment. But if you hold your head up high and have no fear, the storm will pass and the Golden Sky will appear amid the sweet songs of the Lark, and you will never be walking alone.

Just a reply to all of the people who criticised us after today's game.

1. a quality result - the Ethiad has been a fortress of late and even a draw would have been quality, especially seeing as we've lost 3 - 0 the last 2 times we've been there.

2. We have an away goal and quite frankly I would have taken a terrible performance by our team so long as we won 1-0. It doesn't matter how we got there but we have the advantage. We defended really well and their best chance came from a Kelly through ball.

3, Something I nicked from the BBC website - Only two of the 25 teams to have won away in the first leg of a League Cup semi-final have failed to reach the final.

Fingers crossed.

12 Jan 2012 01:41:14
think if we want to break into top 4 we need a striker i like what i see of de jong and he is young have we a 50 50 chance of getting him and what wud he cost {Ed001's Note - he wants to stay and try and get in Holland's Euro squad.}

12 Jan 2012 01:38:46
Sorry ed just a quick one. Used the search and found this on Vincent Kompany. Were all red cards 3 game bans before? {Ed002's Note - It is determined following the referee's report being submitted. If the offence could be deemed violent conduct then it is three games, else one. I don't know if circumstances exist where it could be a two game ban.} but why has he got a 4 match ban? Sorry if I'm being stupid. Murray {Ed001's Note - because he had already had a 3 match ban for a straight red card earlier in the season.}

Thanks ed. Love the site. been coming on for years and for a long time I thought your name really was edd lol.

--------------reina--------------

-------kelly--agger--skrtel-------

--------lucas--henderson--------

johnson------------------enrique

--------gerrard--suarez---------

-------------carroll--------------

Slightly odd formation but i think playing 3 complete defenders will be more than ample. The cover provided by the 2 holding midfielders will break up attacks and allow the back 3 to spread out slightly. With Johnson and Enrique acting as wingbacks/ wide players. Gerrard and Suarez dropped just off the main striker of Carroll to provide link up play to both him and wide players.

ed if its coutinho would he be able to get a work permit?DORSET RED {Ed001's Note - it would need to be under the 'special talent' clause, I think.}

well this is not a rumour BUT heres a video of samir nasri getting harassed by LFC Fans after Man-City Carling Cup game

That Nasri is a vile little man. Come to think of it, isn't he from...

Lots of vile little men from there, Napolean's legacy lives on. You don't even need to be born there.

Disgraceful.....they should have left him alone and just waved as they went past.

what was kk doing throwing on so many defenders second half? yeah we were seeing the game out but it was just inviteing pressure we were lucky it were'nt the strongest man c team.

Making sure we won an away game 1-0 and left with an advantage with them having to come to Anfield? Maybe?

My take on the whole Macca rumour is that it is highly unlikely that it would be Castaignos. At nineteen it just does not make sense to put him in to solve our goal scoring problem. We might as well put one of our own academy kids in instead of giving playing time to a player who is going back to Inter after his loan spell. If we are looking to buy, it makes even less sense. Why the hurry to get this kid in now? We might as well wait for the summer; it's not as if he is going to get more expensive. Also, this would mean that Kenny and DC have decided that this kid is to come in ahead of Luuk De Jong or any other striker we have been linked with. Is he going to help us make top four? Or, in case we make it this year, are we hoping to mount a title challenge with him next year? I might be wrong on this, but if it is Castaignos, then I'll say we've made a foolish move.

Canadian Fan

How about if we get him on loan until the summer? Would make sense if we have targets that are not available until the end of the season

I think Yoann Gourcuff + Luis Suarez would make a great forward partnership.

Gourcuff is a midfielder

We should've signed him 4 years ago when he was good

Ok I dont know why people are naming the entire Inter Squad in regards to who we are signing.

Maccas Clues: Young, Plays for Inter, Linked on this site and others.

There are only 2 posible players that fit the discription:

Castaignos (More Recently linked)

Coutinho (Linked late last year)

Luis Suarez aims for top 4 finish...

Does that mean he is thinking about moving in the summer if we dont do the top 4 finish. His next steop should be into champions league football.

From what i read, it means he wants to repay the Liverpool fans for our support, by making sure we finish in the top 4, some people read too much into things and cannot take them for face value

Just to throw my twopence in to the debate on which Inter player Macca means, I reckon it's Coutinho. For the simple reason that Rafa signed him and played him a lot and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he recommended him to the coaching staff.

Of course, though I don't doubt the veracity of Macca's info, let's not get too excited yet - transfers aren't simple and at such an early stage there are so many things that can go awry.

Cheers for the info Macca.

Hi eds.
Why would liverpool loan a young player from inter? I can't remember the last time they loaned a player why start now? Why not just buy luuk de jong for x ammount? Just a quick couple of questions thanks if can reply.
Stew
{Ed001's Note - because it is difficult to buy players of the quality needed in January at the best of times. This January is even more difficult than usual, not only do you have players terrified of losing their Euro place but you also have clubs afraid of how they stand under the FFP ruling. So not much movement is happening.}

Anelka, maybe? {Ed001's Note - hasn't he just gone to China??}

11 Jan 2012 23:31:57
I'm really dissapointed to hear the only player we are looking to sign is a young player on loan obviously not alot of experience no clue of the premier league probably won't get hardly any starts in the first team wen we are in need of a goal scorer , there is clearly only one spot left for the champs league n we are not going to help our chances with this sort of signing !

the Carling Cup brings European place u said ed001? is it true? i dont know anything about this, do u mind explaining abit?

Does that mean say we finish 4th and win it, Cardiff/Crystal Palace will be in Europe??

"Does that mean say we finish 4th and win it, Cardiff/Crystal Palace will be in Europe?"

No. It actually reverts to an extra League place. However, I believe the FA cup finalists do qualify if the other team gets Champs League.

No , it becomes a PL place .

He wouldn't keep in "line" last time. ;)
