No more Torres posts please! Zzzzz

12 Jan 2013 23:18:50
Not so much a rumour but more asking eds and posters your views on Sunderland keeper. Everytime I see him play he is excellent. Rumours are that arsenal are intersted, I say let them have Reiner and we can have him ! Any thoughts or interest ?

Can wait for tomorrow lads :-)
Daniellambretta

Think he's a excellent keeper, young & should be overly expensive. Think if Pepe goes in the summer, he sound be are No.1 target.

He isn't as good as he was last season imo however him or begovic would be my top choices to succeed reina.

This guy sessengnion its immense get him get him now, at least offer them downing he was immense wif oneal, so O'Neal might take downing plus 5 to 8 millions, its looks 4 me a good bussiness, get sessengnion we need him hev got the final touch on him boots.

If you watch the guy, he's all fancy runs & dribbles, but he's got no end product. Think he'd be a massively frustrating player to have in your team. Don't think he's better than we already got

If you watch him more than once you realize he only shows up once a month.
But that 1 game a month he is a great player.
Andrew

Sessegnon is a show pony all show no product, ..... no thanks

12 Jan 2013 23:08:13
Only business is bent for downing and a cheeky bid for Ashley Cole.

My last 2 rumours........ the other 4 proved correct {Ed002's Note - So Danny Rose signed?}

Rumbled!!!!

Watching valencia game and evwry time i watch them soldado catches the eye 2 goals and he is captain good pace strength and good with feet fantastic player when we were linked wish came true be loke the torres suarez partnership we all wished for when suarez came this guy would make a similar impact. Go all out man, also mention for jesus navas and dani parejo

12 Jan 2013 22:40:12
Not sure why people are suggesting sneijder would cost too much, the reported price is 10,000,000 to buy and 5,000,000 per year
This is cheap for this quality of player
I'm not saying we'd get him or that we even want him just that we could afford him {Ed002's Note - The required salary is Net of tax and other deductions.}

Strange question Eds, do footballers pay tax in the country they play? [FR] {Ed002's Note - Yes - the same as everyone else.}

13 Jan 2013 01:14:24
Do you not remember when John Arne Riise's payslip was leaked? Loadsa tax on that.

- Something Red -

Replace "strange" with "stupid"

12 Jan 2013 22:23:14
Ed, what do you think of the following rumours that are about?
1. The Milner rumour about him coming on loan to LFC till end of the season.

2. Torres received abuse after Chelsea game has spoken to his representatives about leaving and be willing to take a pay cut and would return to Liverpool FC

3. Sneijder coming to Liverpool {Ed052's Note - 1. Rubbish. 2. Rubbish. 3. Rubbish}

Can you be a little more specific please, Ed?

cozinoz

12 Jan 2013 22:19:25
not necessarily Liverpool related,

But Ed's could you provide any information on Fred? the brazilian footballer who plays for Fluminense (used to play for Lyon)

Just seeing his impressive goal scoring record at every club he's been to and wondering if any major teams in europe or even England bare an interest in him?

Thanks
SR {Ed052's Note - not any more}

12 Jan 2013 22:19:06
hi eds i know this has been covered to great extent but why are we still not moving for sneijder. personally he is someone who can greatly affect us and help us get back into CL. worth every pound ( well not 200,000 maybe 150k) ALSO what about gameiro and ince. D o we have interest in them {Ed052's Note - you throw a random figure out of 150k. He would cost so much more than that. You know we have interest in Ince. No to Grameiro}

12 Jan 2013 22:11:55
in case people haven't noticed on here. bren is looking for a lean 22 man squad. using 433, it looks like he is lookin for 2 options for each position which harks back to jose mourinho's requirement in his chelski team. and so the 22 as i see it at the mo are,

GK: reina jones,
DF: wisdom, kelly, johnson, enrique, carra, coates, skrtel, agger

MD: suso, shelvey, hendo, lucas, gerrard, allen

FW: borini, sterling, assaidi, downing, sturridge, suarez

therefore imo we are in equilibrium at the moment. when rodge talks about a thin squad it was due to personnel matchin the positions that needed filling, so for example as cole was not suited to forward positions whereas sturridge is. therefore if someone comes in 1 will leave. likewise if 1 leaves one will come in. talk at moment about ince and gameiro. if either do come in, assaidi and downing will be first out i think whether that be permanently or on loan as they are imo the weakest of the six forwards at present.

also i feel the midfield might be looked at although bren seems content with hendo at the moment. suso will be better now in the mid area, however i feel hendo may be sacrificed for an improvement although this might not happen till the summer. alternatively it is possible, shelvey or suso might go out on loan allowing a more experienced mid to come in till the summer.
quality not quantity now, with the right players for the system is the name of the game.

rodges brain

Very good. hugely logical so may be about right - although the manager still wants for flexibility and im quite sure he aims to add more players for support and strength in depth hence the Ince deal etc.

on a personal note id be dissapointed if Assaidi were to leave, we've not seen him much and whenever we have ive enjoyed his directness and his willingness to take a man on get to the byeline and whip a cross in good old fashioned wing play!

12 Jan 2013 21:51:43
I'm starting to realise what it must be like to be an Ed, to put up with the same stupid questions or statements post after post after post.
Brendan Rodgers is not playing with wingers in his system

Chris in Tamworth {Ed052's Note - haha CiT. Tis very true}

I agree Chris. In fact I think we should have a vote on no more Fernando Torres posts....

ProfG

Id say sterling and downing are both wingers! both playing in the front 3...then again i'd say enrique was a left back until he also played in the front 3

Enriqe looked more dangerousn than either downing or sterling in the front 3

12 Jan 2013 21:45:35
All is not well in Madrid. An audacious bid for Ozil may be on the cards.

Not a rumour but a sensicle suggestion. A real talent that is being wasted at Real.

Canada Red

Being wasted? He's just an important to that team as CR7 and Alonso.

CR7?? are you joking typing that!!
Kp

Oh so we're going for audacious bids now instead of cheeky ones?

12 Jan 2013 21:42:09
Thanks for your boundless efforts, Eds. Your patience is admirable in the face of some short-sighted and sensationalist nonsense. I share your belief that Liverpool need to look forward to a new era instead of hoping that old legends return. Let bygones be, dear friends.

You have maintained the line that we will sign Ince, Sturridge and maybe one other this Jan, and that seems realistic. I can't help but feel that the Sahin deal came quicker than expected, do you think it has changed the plans? Do you expect his departure will herald the arrival of an additional signing? Who do you think is most likely?

After the Carrol mistake last summer, I feel that BR wouldn't let Sahin leave without a solid lead on a replacement. Would you agree? Presumably he must have had some ideas about filling the Sahin-shaped hole in the summer, so it's not hard to imagine that he had plans that could be accelerated.

Where does your information come from?

Thanks again. These questions represent my own musings, and are not based on any legitimate rumours.

Chowder {Ed052's Note - thanks mate. I am not too sure Sahin will change much, as he didn't play all tbat much, so I'm not sure there is much need for a replaced. He was only a loan too, so i'm not sure its too much of a problem. Perhaps at a push I would say Inan might be a long shot. }

D you think if Sneijder move to Gala it would make him available this window ed? {Ed052's Note - it could do yes. Or atleast free up an opportunity to make him avaliable - if you get what I mean}

Thanks for the reply. I don't know anything about this Inan - I'll have to investigate.

I think my feeling that we need to replace Sahin is based on the role of the 'midfield triangle' in BR's plans; While we aren't short of midfielders, our current crop are very young and still developing (with obvious exceptions). If Gerrard picks up an injury (likely as the ground gets harder and temperatures drop) we will feel very short of options for our triangle.

Lucas wins his place at the bottom of the triangle as one of the best CDM's currently in the EPL, and then Gerrard sits alongside as a deep-lying playmaker. Whilst Allen has looked like a quality player, he also has a tendency to disappear and get pushed out of games. Shelvey has immense physical presence, but often makes poor decisions, Henderson is growing in quality, but needs more games and the same is true of Suso.

Aren't we missing a 'nailed-on' choice for a First XI player to master that CAM position at the top of the triangle?

I support BR's policy of youth development and see Henderson as a future Star, but youth contribution must come by choice rather than necessity. We can't leave our season to chance or questions about fitness. A team can't thrive with 'new' players learning their trade in every position - we need a solid 'backbone'.

Wonder if Owen and Torres sat next to each other today and contemplated what could have been....

Silly me....Forgot Owen is injured once again.......

Dirks Engine Room

I heard that Owen fell out of the transfer window.
Scouse_Pride

Is that Owen who has a Premier League winner's medal?

Hi eds & reds,

Is it known what the club's consensus on Coady is? Every youth game I've watched he has been solid and played with maturity but other players seem quite far ahead of him in terms of getting a first team place.
ForzaRed {Ed052's Note - he's played a couple of times and will probably get some more games. I can see him going in the summer if he doesn't play much if at all tho}

He isn't good enough like morgan and few others.

Hello Reds regd the question of Luis playing on the wing to let Sturridge take the lead...no. Suarez is feared by defenders BC he keeps them on their heels due to unpredictability, but what happens when he strays further out and tries to beat defenders the same way? Think Huth. He needs to be in a position where opposition will think twice before fouling him, just enough time for him to nutmeg & bomb on. Now if there's a way to incorporate a striker around him then we'll see more goals, but not by putting the load on Sturridge Only time I see Suarez on the wing is when the match opens up & he is allowed to play without being leveled. There is also the Messi role, but for that he and a striker/attacking wingers would need to be very close to the box, and that is only possible if we have a very strong midfield. I suspect we will look for CM & CB in the market as next priority. Couldn't care less aboue he chose to leave rather than wait like our other young stars.

On to United...Carra to start his final match vs United, along with MS/DA. Wing backs probably GlenJo & Wisdom, with latter sacrificed if we need an extra attacker Carra moving to LB. Gerra, Leiva, Allen, Downing & Suarez other starters. We would do well starting off trying to see if Luis can run circles around Vidic and nic a goal. Otherwise expect Sterling & Sturridge to come on once we open it up. Either way don't think we'll play to widen the pitch it will be direct and down their throats. Let them try & break down our defensive wall stretching it wide, but we will be happy away from the stink of Old Trafford faithful & their donkey manager lol.... 3pts coming home with the team Sunday night. Enjoy the game mates...YNWA ....azkop

I assume you don't know much about football.........there are no wingers in a 4-3-3 system.
Surely the message will sink in eventually, given the number of posts on the subject.

Hey eds just a quick question. I don't watch Italian football but isn't Sneijder injured ? He's always injured from what I remember... DBol {Ed052's Note - no, I don't believe he is}

Sneijder has been fit for 3 weeks, he has been left out of the match day squad due to contractual issues with inter and is extremely unlikely to play for inter again

Nevada

Inter are trying to get him "off" their books (wage bill), so why in the hell would we want him on ours.
Tumbleweed Red.

This is also somewhat down to the fact he's a petulent, self-involved person.

12 Jan 2013 20:43:18
I disagree with Liverpool's youth-only policy..Steven Gerrard.

I'm agree with captain.

r-r

Hi eds and all, totally agree with stevie g it is great that where signing young players and in most sports it does seem to be players are getting younger and younger, but i think we do need to buy some lads, that are 28 are 29 that have the experience and have been in the game along time, the experience and knowledge they could part to are young lads would be great, plus there is some great signings to be had this month of that age that we are letting by, cause of there age, just cause they won't have a sell on value they have alot more values to offer.rd

Gerrard didn't actually say it about Liverpool in particular, it was in reply to being asked about frank lamp are, and he simply said he thought youth worked better with experience, people seem to be making out Gerard was having a go at our owners, but he was merely pointing out in his opinion that lampard still has plenty to offer, rob b

12 Jan 2013 20:18:44
Eds, which players do you think will join us in January and do you think Alonso will return next Summer ? {Ed002's Note - Please read the posts.}

12 Jan 2013 20:02:43
Latest on sneijder. Acc. Morratti its between Inter or gala for sneijder.

Hes at Inter Already!!

Lyndon

Inter accept £8.5m offer for him just the player will make the decision he will join or not. I hope Liverpool take a that chance creative midfilder.

Inter are happy to let him go as long as the buying club are willing to buy out his current contract (aabout 7 million I'm told)

Nevada

Inter could well loan Sneijder out to themselves with an option to buy

Yes i know lyndon . Thanks for letting me know anyway.

12 Jan 2013 19:56:28
Sneijder is in Milano right now on Giuseppe meazza still as an Inter player watching Inter-pescara. In heavy talks with gala as we all know about. But the hope is still that our owners Will wake up and make a deal happen with Liverpool .

Do you really think FSG would pay £200k a week for a player?

We're struggling to buy Tom Ince....

Dont hold your breath lad, he's not 17 on £5 a week.

Gala offer him £200k a week ? that's must be a joke. £100k week will done whice we pay for Sahin.

Read that he is waiting for Liverpool acc to à italian paper.

12 Jan 2013 19:45:43
Wen will people understand that if LFC are to bid for a player, that player must fit a certain profile, also this player must be able to thrive in the new system of play that Rodgers has introduced, so stop asking if LFC is looking into this player and that and let the people who know what they are looking for do their job at LFC, KD had no plan, that's why he signed potential instead of practical, he signed players that could be great but had no plan of how to extract that greatness out of them.

Do you think villa or sneijder could play our system? its about transfer fee and wages, not about a player and systems or age! how old is dempsey? he was on the cards at the start of the season! wake up! FSG don't want to spend heavily, they want youth with a potential return on low wages to try and get some money back instead of quality experience on high wages!

JOZLFC

I Totally disagree with you, KD was only ever an interim replacement brought into steady the ship - a ship that was spiralling out of control, under the ownership of the two American jesters and an inept manager, Woy Hodgeson. The success he brought in such a short time is a testimont to the great man, and the reason he was given a three year contract. To say he did not have a plan is not surprising, considering he was offered the job, whilst on holiday in Dubai, and he had been out of top flight management for many years. His appointment bought time, a fact that lot of Liverpool fans have overseen, because God only knows, what would have happened if he had not of come in when he did. To state that the current players have to fulfil a certain profile is obviously a business decision (sell on value) and not a management trait of BR - I for one will never forget the debt of gratitude we as Liverpool fans owe to King Kenny!

12 Jan 2013 19:40:16
Suarez to nutmeg evra at least twice tomorrow

Suarez to score winner and then celebrate by asking the Ref to 'Watch me' in front of Fergie.

A better bet would be Suarez will dive at least twice!

Maybe he will, but not as much as ashley young

Even if he dives twice it will be (at least) one less than young!!!!

12 Jan 2013 19:28:01
Most of the results were good for us, we haven't dropped any further. Everton, spurs only got a point further away. wba falling apart. We will cause Man you problems, just hope we can defend tomorrow

Gavalaar

12 Jan 2013 18:52:17
With Sahin and Cole leaving, that leaves us with just Gerrard, Lucas, Shelvey and Allen for the 3 central midfield roles.
Ed, do you think we will buy in this area or do you see Suso being used as an attacking central midfielder? {Ed002's Note - Plus Henderson and Suso, as you say, may get more of a chance.}

12 Jan 2013 18:09:45
Lets see if the lad that dived to get the pen for Southampton gets stick like our n7 wood

Surprised they haven't blamed him for it!!

12 Jan 2013 18:17:54
Why are we not trying to pick up Wesley sneijder. He is on a cut price deal, has stated he would take a cut in wages, he has a big point to prove, and from my view would help us this season get top4. So frustrated sneijders do not come along very often

Ya! Players That overrated Dont come a long that often!!

Lyndon

Sneider is far from overrated . even dafties know that
5gold stars

And when they do we normally sign them !

Marshy

It must be a sad state of affairs, if players of Sneijders quality are not even looked at by us.

Oh well at least we'll have Tom Ince.

He is Not as Good as a lot in here are making out.
He's never been as got as Gerrard for one.

I'd rather spend that amount of money inc wages on a Winger

Lyndon

Great player but many of his teammates and his current coaches at inter view him as a negative influence on his team.

Nevada

Did you watch him at the Euros? Was absolutely quality created chance after chance but his teammates couldnt finish

12 Jan 2013 18:06:18
It's always a close game when we play the mancs. Emotions and "spur of the moment" decisions settle this game above quality, form and tactics.

Old red nose (as much as I despise him) always understands this - he's teased Gerard, baited then ignored Rafa, continued a personal feud with Kenny before defferring reverence. The guy knows how to use subtle pschycological pointers.

This week he has had nothing else to talk about other than our re-building, our structure and our star player. He knows it's a game that can go either way but one we can hurt utd past the 3 points on the day.

He's scared and this is a game that can be a fulcrum.

Believe reds, lets take the moment!

12 Jan 2013 18:04:16
First of al iv got a sneaky feeling Suarez is going to get the winner tomorrow in a 3-2 victory to us.

Secondly I hope BR starts getting some more players in soon, I thought both he and the club had realised on the 1st September 2012 that we where light on numbers an the idea was to get some talent in during the current transfer window.

We have saved 180 grand a week on wages on Cole and Sahin and so far splashed out on Sturridge 65k a week.

Sneijder would be an ideal replacement for Cole and Sahin and improve the team so fingers crossed a deal can be reached for both player and Liverpool.

Curled1

Agreed mate, midfield 3 of Lucas, Gerrard and sneijder would be getting us back to nearly as good as masch, xabi and Stevie.
With Luis's guile and the pace of sterling and Sturbridge, our team would look so much better!
Jason

I dreamed that Suarez gets a hat-trick

I dreamed of Jenna Jameson!

12 Jan 2013 17:54:58
Ridiculous, for a start I'd like to think we wouldn't even consider anything less than 60 million for Luis, let alone sell him. He really is a top player, and the most exciting player I've seen in a red shirt for a very very long time. Ino we have to face reality and accept that he may pursue CL football, but if we lose him I fear it will be a long time until we see LFC in the top four again, especially when we know we'd probably use all the money terribly. Michu has had a good season but Luis is in a completely different league to him, it'd be no replacement at all. Joe

The sad thing is so many of our fans saying we should sell suarez yet people moan about the loyalty of players these days. We need to stick behind the players giving it a 100% as long as they are in a Liverpool shirt. Especially suarez the guy is already a complete legend!

London red

London Red, its not the majority. Its only the simpletons.

I notice the eds leave simpletons. Please leave it. Its kind a kind way of saying they know nothing about football.

12 Jan 2013 17:40:28
Just seen James Milner near Anfield on a pogo stick.

Still laughing ten minutes later - thanks!

I believe it was a space hopper

I saw him nutmeg downing on a space hopper

Was it really a pogo stick, or was he just pleased to see us.

Was it a pogo stick or a space hopper?
This could be the difference between signing for us and staying with City.

12 Jan 2013 17:35:30
Dont see why we arent going for Sissoko. He is available for 3.5 million, wasnt he the one who Kenny was keen on signing? For that cheap why not? He will turn out to be a bargin player like Michu, cheap but hidden quality.

12 Jan 2013 17:33:03
whats with all the talk of a contract extention for Carragher. He had a good game against a non league side and any salary he gets would be more then the prize money for winning the FA Cup outright. I honestly think he's be better off staying in Pippo Inzaghi's back pocket where he's pretty much been since Athens in 2005
Biff Byford {Ed019's Note - But harsh, Carra's tried his best on and off the pitch and has made 720 appearances for the club}

Agree that he should retire but your comments about his performance are just disrespectful considering his legendary status and commitment to the club

And Athens wasn't in 2005 you mug

Or when he had Cramp in both legs and Still threw himself in front of the ball head first!!

You obviously another respectful???Young man
Who has no respect for any player whos put the club first

Something which you more than likely mirror in life in General!!

Lyndon

Harsh???. Carra is a legend, gives his all and has a lot to offer on the mentor side of things. Some players just deserve to be treated the right way. If JC got a one year deal(50K plus incentives) I wouldn't begrudge him that. Hope he goes for his badges and stay with the club. A real red would never speak bad about him.

Chi-Paul

Carragher all heart = legend

The original post was either the best troll ever - or the biggest person. Either way, you can't educate pork.

He is 1 of the responsible of Benitez departure, after his departure we been shockin in appointing managers, buyin players in awry hight price and after that all flop, when Benitez used to get a better players in a cheap, so even Rodger its like traveler on front of Benitez just his signing say it, so Carra its 1 of the biggest responsibles of Liverpool falling, so think twice before pricing some 1 hi did damage to the club.

Only repeating what people are saying but the fact you don't even no where quite possibly the greatest night in our history took place shows Wat a total bell you are. Carra is a legend and I for one would love the guy to stay.

Great replies. Loved the 'you can't educate pork' comment. Loved even more the poster who said 'so even Rodger its like traveler on front of Benitez just his signing say it'

Can someone explain that one to me?

Two weeks over and it has been a disappointing. With 2 players out (Sahin & Cole) and only 1 in (Sturridge). Rodgers had said before Jan that the squad was thin now it has just become thinner.
I m not saying players these should have been sold but i just hope we have targeted some players to buy and we do buy them.

Everybody wanted Cole out and Sahin wasn't getting on the pitch anytime soon for various reasons. We've brought in a top striker and are pushing to sign a quality young forward in Ince. It's been a very promising couple of weeks.
Daniel YNWA

So eliminating the wages of Joe cole that were massive and those of sahin too who was unable to perform or fit in coupled with the fact that we added desperately needed depth to our strike force sounds disappointing to you? I'm sorry but i fail to see the logic. January isn't the best time to buy players and i think we've managed to do decent if not fully satisfactory business even if no more deals are concluded.

RajK

Yeah because joe cole added so much to our squad.

The results have gone our way today, and it is now up to tge team to ensure that this is the week we begin our rise up the table, and start to really push on. With a win tomorrow we can move into 7th, and a Man City win in conjunction with such a result will not only put us level on points with Arsenal, but also put a dent in the gap at the top.

Usually when all the results go our way, we mess up! hopefully we won't tomorrow

12 Jan 2013 17:01:25
Typical, Walters has a blinder against us, scoring twice in the process. Against Chelsea, he gifts them the game with two own goals. You just can't compete against that !

12 Jan 2013 16:55:42
eds do you think its just coincidence that Br is only buying players he has coached before, the players we could get very cheap like M/Sissouko or sniejder or M'Villa and the many more out there with 6 months left on their contacts are gettable for a club like ours, only time will tell if im right or wrong, maybe that's why he wants to get rid of coates and bring in ashley williams, again another player who he has coached, and i think ive read he is waiting on the swansra left back who is out injred with a broken leg, i think his name his taylor, i might be wrong, but the players he has bought for the 1st team are . sturridge ( coached at chelsea ), borini ( coached at chelsea, reading and swansea ) joe allen ( coached at swansea ) sahin he is sending back, but wanted to go to arsenal 1st, is there any other players he has coached who are affordable or have 6 months left on their contract,

if im wrong i will appologise, but the evidence up to now is he has only bought his old boy, that's why so many better players are going to other clubs {Ed002's Note - BR never coached Sturridge. Borini was never at Reading. Yesil and Assaidi are the others he never coached.}

And to add to Ed02 Sneijder earns more than Gerrard...cheap?

Clueless

Apology accepted, Captain Needa

God almighty he tried to buy dempsey, whom he never coached before, sneijder will not be cheap, m'villa will be difficult to get and i really don't think sissouko will be the answer to our midfield problems.

Me too I hope Newcastle go down, they thought they were great last year finishing above us and bragging how they spent the money we gave them for Carroll, well look at you now plus stuck with a manager who I can't stand on an eight year contract.
Oh how the tables turn!
Paul the red

Agreed. Pardew got so carried away with himself after last year. Thought he was the new Special One! Couldn't stand his fancy suit or those OTT clenched fist celebrations after every single goal. And if they were as clever as they think they are in the transfer market then why did they allow Demba Ba's buyout clause?

Checked the form book.

Along with Reading, Newcastle have the least amount of points from their last 10 games (7). Wigan have 8, QPR & Villa have 10. And they're only 2 points above the drop zone. They're in serious trouble.

personally i think gerrard is talking out of his backside about buying experience, we have plenty of experience with himself, reina, agger, skyrtl, johnson, downing, enrique, carragher even saurez, maybe he should take more responsibility for his own game which to be fair this season and last just not been good or consistent enough and stop talking to the press so much ie" im getting back to my best again " don't say it bloody do it then .

Well experience does help younger players grow, i really love seeing us sign top young prospects but at the end of the day we are looking for quality not a birth certificate. We have lots of potential already perhaps it is wise to sign an experienced player ?

peace out fellow red men

Please not Milner, if you thought that Downing is bad, then Milner is worse, one paced negligible end product, zero flair. He is a Hodgson player, avoid and let him rot at City.

So you want

Sterling Suarez Downing (as it stands at the minute)

Milner Lucas Gerrard

where does leave Allen, Henderson & Shelvey ??

I have seen many strikers play at anfield the likes of rush, god, owen etc with regards 2 torres i loved watching him play and some of his goals were simply magic now i was devastated when he left so so angry at him but i would like 2 just look at it from his perspective for a minute for the 2 seasons before he left he had been promised that the club was moving forward but they were empty promises our club was in such a bad way when chelsea made that offer torres was entering the last stage of his carrer i don't blame him for leaving at that time and if my memory serves me right one of our best ever players left the club for italy and then come back no one called him a judas!!

It was Ian Rush who went to Juventus.

Rush never dropped us in the sh*ep. Torres jumped ship when we needed him most. Why should we take him back after what he did to us? Let him sit on the bench at Chelsea

Rush didn't say he wasn't going to leave nor did he bad mouth the club like Torres did.

Plymouth Red.

Rush dnt leave last day of a transfer window, 2 weeks after saying he wasnt leaving, to go to our rivals and then call us a small club!
And lets be honest, if Torres had hit the ground running and was playing anywhere near the way he used to for us, he wouldnt be whining and whinging and wanting to return to us...
He left, he aint got it anymore and he lives with the regret we all knew he would..
ItsNotRocketScience

Went at the time to the Biggest league in Europe. He'd of never gone to a major rival in this country!

He wouldn't of talked badly about the club either

If your looking to abuse Rush your clutching at straws!

Lyndon

Rush didn't put in a transfer request in such a petulant manner and didn't bad mouth the club and its supporters unlike señor Torres. Rush = Legend, Torres = Bell end.

So how do you account for his comments after his transfer about being at a better club etc, etc. His reaction added fuel to the fire, something I past players, like Rush, had done when they left the Club.

I'm sure it was here earlier but it seems to has disappeared and from a lot of other keyboards too naughty thing it must be hiding behind another letter or something I don't know what's the world coming to when you can't even trust your keyboard eh now we're never going to make sense of these weird and wonderful posts

ND

Torres is not coming back. Stop dreaming about the player he once was and realise what he is now. Even if he was offered to us for let's say 10M, he would simply be a waste of 10M. He could play with Sturridge at Chelsea and can't play with Ba either. We got 50m for him and unfortunately pissed away roughly 25M of that by over paying for AC. If we could get 12M for AC and invest in a Mertens/Turan/Honda type player I'd be elated, but please stop with the FT talk.

Chi-Paul

The only way I would take Torres back is if the transfer fee was somewhere between free and £5m and his wages were not more than £30k per week.

He would be a good backup to Borini. Also, the fee paid and the wages wouldn't be too much of a waste.

Yeah you really cannot compare torres' departure with rush's. I would take torres back but he isn't good enough. People call him judas but chelsea gave much more than 30 pieces of silver for him.
derryred

He was worshipped at liverpool even the odd games when he played like a spanner! saw the £ signs and went to chelsea, didn't think twice about us then did he. now the fans are on his back and he wants to come back. im afraid on 180k per week you look to be stuck there senor torres!

12 Jan 2013 15:01:56
I know I'll get slated for this but Id like to express how our club was jepordized by Dalglish in the LAST TWO YEARS (will forever be a legend)

Firstly he spent £110m + on players who have been very poor. Only Suarez, Enrique, Coates can justify their price tags. Granted Downing and Hendo are slowly looking decent it's taken far too long and they are no where near their price tags. Henderson has time which i think will allow him to develop into a very good player but Downing and Carroll have been laughable buys! Anyone who is saying that our net spend was only £30m needs to wake up to the facts. We had to pay £49.2m to cover the costs of stadium plans which had been undertaken by Gillet and Hicks so our net spend was considerably more - closer to £80m

Furthermore Dalglish's handling throughout the Suarez saga was utterly appauling. Any manager should support the player but the fact that he continually re introduced the topic in interviews long after the event was extremely tedious and damaging. On top of this, his reaction to Suarez's handshake made the situation even worse. Someone of his experiance should have handled the situation far far better.

Thus I am glad he was sacked. Unfortunatly this requires us to consolodate and regaining CL will take a couple of years, a couple of years that I am happy to wait for under Rodgers. His signings have been comparitively better in terms of value and potential - he's managed to sign Allen, Borini, Sturridge, Assaidi and even the failed loan of Sahin all for cheaper than Carroll and Downing alone. On top of that he's actually given the youngsters like Sterling and Suso a chance. When we were languishing in 8th place last season I only saw Raheem getting 13 minutes at Wigan and Suso was nowhere!, instead we insisted on playing Flanno who is a complete liability...

I am expecting negative comments but I think people just need to wake up and realise Dalglish and Comolli (whos part in this is unclear - buying British didn't seem to be his idea though) completely ruined our rebuilding as a club

The only consolation is that he managed to gain the united support of the fans and win us a trophy. Maybe if it didn't require playing a full strength 11 against Exceter we'd have done a little better in the league though...

Thanks for reading, Feel free to criticise but Im saying it how it is

SR

I won't criticise your opinion as some of it I agree with. However I think you should give some slack to dalglish, he came to us in a very troubled time and was given the task of steadying the ship in turbulent waters, which he did admirably. His only mistake was to take the job on longer than he should, and spending the money he was given badly. His stint in charge was one of creating solidarity, which he did.

He and comolli share the blame for the transfers but let's also give the credit he deserves for helping stabilize us too.

You should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking never mind posting that Kenny Jeopardized our club!

You either have no knowledge of the club or are 7. What he's done for the club since 1977 far out ways anything he could do in one season.

You should by all fairness be Banned from thesite!!

Lyndon

SR. Kenny was managing under restrictions a blind man could see that! F$G dinn't want him as the permanant manager but were to spinless not to give him the job, any manager who takes over at the start of his tenure will always hold the power because they are the choice of the owners. Which is why they backed down to Rodgers over a DOF.

Kenny was just desperate for the job and went along with the crap that was thrown at him, let me ask you this, do you think If Kenny had his way that he would have worked with somebody like Commoli? Worked with a transfer policy like moneyball? Of course he wouldn't.

He had pressure from the owners from the off with the threat of the sack if he didn't finish in the top 4, which they didn't put on Rodgers because HE WAS THERE CHOICE!

So there was no impact on the team and the club with the Suarez affair then, that didn't effect results, no? And the reason he defended Luis so vigourously was he knows how much we are hated in media circles and they crucified Luis and the club over it! Oh! and there's the small matter of no evidence against against him aswell! So he was quite rightly defending his player, i suppose you would have just blubbed caved in and begged for everyones forgivness. Look at who we were fighting by the way, the F.A. and ferguson.

You slag the signings made under the moneyball system and you put the blame at Kennys door, look into how players under that system were signed, and listen to Commolis radio interview after he was sacked he explains moneyball in that interview and believe me if Kenny had his way players wouldn't have been purchased in this way.

Ed001 commented yesterday that Kenny shouldn't come back to the club the way some so called fans treated him, you come firmly into that catergory my friend. Theres a hell of a lot more I would like to write about you and your post but the ed's wouldn't show it.

If that's how you and a shed load more people like you treat a LEGEND then the future of our club is in the toilet, your the worst kind of fairweather armchair supporter!!

Waro

Two finals in one season with a bunch of jokers as you call them can't be that bad can it ?

Kopping a feel

Kennys achievements as a player, manager, motivator and a gentleman are beyond any form of critism. He is loved by real supporters and you my friend should be ashamed of putting this post on here, or have you just done it to wind people up dopey ?

Go and do some research on our very own legend before you dare to criticise a man who has acted with honour and great humility throughout the sad events of Hillsborough.

Kenny should be knighted but he will always be a 'Sir' in my eyes.

Please go away

Tel 1949

Lyndon, Waro, Tel, absolutely with all three of you with your comments. Kenny has always done right by LFC and never let them down. Just check out the teams for our best results this season - whose players were they? Kenny was let down by some of his signings but his team played good football and with a bit of luck would have been much higher up the table. You just can't do anything about that. This season we've had a bit of luck here and there and had good results. Lets hope it goes on improving. Stop rubbishing Kenny you clowns.

Eds,

Need your opinion on this.
-With Gerrard currently play like Alonso, a bit defensive and provide long ball, through ball..i guess he will be pair with either Lucas or Allen to control the midfield. So, is it time Liverpool looking to bring another player to play behind striker? Is it possible this Jan transfer LFC will bring in attacking midfield? Which player that play in this position that lfc currently has interest?

-Do you know if inter milan is looking to sell Sneidjer or willing to loan him with option to buy? If loan is ok, then why not get him on loan?

thanx Eds.

Johanne Estrada. {Ed002's Note - Inter is selling Sneijder.}

Yes but sniejder wage demands and his somewhat negative effects on team morale are both factors which would rule him out of joining a team looking for stability and financial security, wouldn't you agree ed?

Hi Eds,
What sort of fee do you think we could get for Coates. The suggested £9m would represent a good bit of business? What you reckon? {Ed002's Note - I really would not want to speculate.}

12 Jan 2013 14:42:20
I think Liverpool have been doing some smart business recently.Giving the likes of henderson and downing a chance and play for the shirt is what we need right now.We can't expect world class players without champions league because we can't compete with wages and fees!

I would like to see a good loan sighning now that sahin has departed.Players that are hungry to play for example
Wesley Sneijder.Thats if he's looking to play football and not one last big pay cheque.

Tom ince has a lot of potential and would be a good buy, but we need a few experianced heads to become a top 4 team!

Xabi Alonso is that dream player, hopefully if real madrid beat the on tthe wat to winning the champions league this year, we might see those 50 to 60 yard shots on goal at anfield once again.

Eds..Is it the case now that LFC cannot compete for a signing if other clubs are interested as well due to the fact we won't ever pay what the selling club wants and our wage structure is now only geared for mid table players or younger players?

It seems that whenever there is other interest we don't have a chance. {Ed002's Note - If a player that the club sees as someone they want and can fit in with the system being played comes available, then there is no reason, if the price is reasonable, that Liverpool would enquire.}

12 Jan 2013 13:39:08
Hello Eds. If Coates gets his rumoured move on loan or permanently why in your opinion would we sign a new centre back without first looking to Wisdom or Sama? We've also got Kelly to come back and even Carra to cover for Agger or Skrtel if needed and plenty of full backs should Wisdom be played centrally. I do think signing someone else would damage the progression of what are talented young players but i'm interested to know what others think. {Ed019's Note - Isimat-Mirin}

Hi eda and Reds, According to Liverpool are in talks with Sneijder. that's why v offloaded Sahin, but if he is to sign he shld accept a pay-cut to his wages, which i think is possible cos he needs a premier league move and i guess only Liverpool are in talks with his agent Soren Lerby. The Turkish champions Galatsaray have announced that they have agreed terms with Inter, but are still in talks with the creative midfielder over a move to the Turk Telekom Arena.Soren Lerby, the agent of Wesley Sneijder, has refuted suggestions that the Inter midfielder is on the verge of completing a transfer to Galatasaray. And Thomas Ince's return to Anfield is being held up by Blackpool's insistence on a sell-on clause according to .

We don't need him, we got to many players in his position still, get some 1 like zaha, and forget about ince. I would rather have Honda than snaichder.

In my opinion I think we are missing out if we don't move for sneijder. I know he doesn't fit our transfer policy but even stevie G has said he disagrees with the policy. He said himself that you need to bringing experienced players aswell. Sneijder is still only 28! He is at the top of his game and exactly what we need. Also at the price gala are Supposably getting him for, he is a steal! I know his wages are high but we can offer him how Coles and Sahins wages. Come on BR!

Please tell me how you have come to find out how a typical liverpool supporter acts. How big is your sample? There are roughly 8.8 million fans of the official liverpool facebook page so that is the minimum no. of liverpool fans in the world. For you to know how a typical liverpool fan acts you must know greater than 4.4 million of them to avoid generalizing. Now lets say for the sake of argument that you do know 5 million liverpool fans ask yourself; Do they all have young offenders as children? Have they ASBO's to prove your point ? Have you seen their children break windows? Have you heard all of them complain about the rubbish problem in sync. with their children breaking these windows? I know a fair few liverpool fans who'se children do not have asbo's and i'm sure the team you support has no bearing on weather you break windows or not. hello eds,
with the predections here of getting ince and a loanee such as jeffren..we will have plenty of players in the three forward positions (downing, ince, jeffren.sturridge, sterling, suarez)

so where does that leave suso...is there any plan to loan him out for the rest of the reason to gain first team chances..or is it possible he will be moved to a #10 position (which i think suits him more!)
any thoughts? {Ed002's Note - In my view Suso would be better behind a forward line.}

Well said 002! EXCELLENT slodge

12 Jan 2013 13:23:43
The reason I think Sturridge is the perfect partner for Suarez is that Suarez can get the ball out wide drawing 2 or more defenders. Obviously with Sturridges pace defenders will have to try & stick to him & the same can be said for sterling who i expect to become more of a goal threat now. With Suarez magic & Sturridge/Sterling speed will be a nightmare for defenders. Gerrard is gonna find all kins of space to bomb through

Hi eds just to let you and others know just heard on that Swansea have put in a bid for Tom ince of 7 million pounds what do you think of this? {Ed019's Note - Blackpool are trying to get us to up our price]

Well we know that won't happen, Blackpool should just tell us to sod off so we can end the usual saga of us trying to sign another average player who won't add anything to the side.

Let him go, get our percentage and move on.
If he'd wanted to be at the club he would have signed the contract we offered and gone out on loan to gain experience.

Imo we have Torres to blame for spending 35m on Carroll because the way he left forced us into a panic buy. We had just bought Suarez to partner him but he was adamant about moving eventually handing in a transfer request to force the move. all he had to do was give us until may & see if he could forge a formidable partnership with Suarez. But it was his choice to move so we who LOVED himhave to respect the fact that he chose Chelsea over us. It sounds almost like losing a girlfriend. lol slodge

Only one person is to blame for spending the 35M on Carroll and that is Kenny.

I blame the bank for giving ayre comolli and kenny the cheque book

None of us really properly know, the owners said somthing about carroll and 15 million for torres. The editors also said about failed bids for gomez and that dutch striker ? end of the day it is really an accumulation of factors I was actually wondering why kenny had the clearance to spend the 35 million on carroll considering he only was in the job a matter of days at the time.
derryred

The simple fact is FSG didn't have to sell Torres on the last day of the window yet they did........SO they are to blame for wasting the money!

12 Jan 2013 12:06:25
I'm glad Steven Gerrard has come out and condemned FSG's transfer policy. I totally agree with the captain that a world class player who is 27+ would still contribute massively to the team and we shouldn't overlook a good player because of his age.

FSG have a transfer policy!

Fsg policy is to pick youth and not to pay over the odds for big name players that have their best years behind them, but the money will be there if the right player is available at the right price.

KUMBER

If you read the article - it's in todays Guardian - instead of just the subsequent headlines, Stevie Gerrard condemned nobody & nothing. He just said - in a very calm way, certainly not criticising BR - he believes there is a place for experienced players like Gary McAllister in a side. Use your head for once.

Po

McAllister must be heading for fifty by now.

Why does everybody want Torres back people forget what he done to the club. Sure he was top class when he was with us just as we'll he left when he did and we got 50 mill for him cause if I remember correctly be was playing rubbish anyway for us ever since he got some operation if we had of held on to him another six months we would of been lucky to get 10mll for him so be greatfull we got rid and move on.

Three stories on the BBC football site about Suarez, all with active comment threads, one of which containing a list of 'controversies' and accusations from other managers.

Back of the Daily Express: Fergie with a thinly veiled warning to Howard Webb to 'keep an eye on the Uruguay striker' due to his 'controversial antics'

Surely this can't go on, it's getting to the point of media victimisation. I don't see this sort of treatment being dished out to other players in the PL, so why should Suarez have to face it on a constant basis?

I hope LS7 rips them apart tomorrow, although if that does happen I'm sure MOTD will find a way of overlooking it completely.

JFT 96

I know it's so blatant and it's getting ridiculous now as well. Over the last 3 day's there have been a Suarez article every day on Yahoo News too!

Fergie is a s**t stirring plick and the media are pathetic.

12 Jan 2013 14:09:49
I think Fowler put it best when we said that it was RVP who elbowed a player (got away with it) this season and Bale who has been booked many a time for diving (and has admitted he dives), but it is Suarez who is lambasted by the media.

I seem to remember an English striker who has elbowed numerous players, cheats (and not just on the football pitch) and swears at the cameras. This is a player who is held up as a national hero by the media and the ideal role model.

But, nonetheless, there are not fifty BBC articles a day about these players. And Fergie needs to shut his trap too, he is way to concerned with our players that he hasn't realised he living in a glass house with a plentiful supply of stones.

Nothing would make my Sunday better than a win and a post match interview with a sweating SAF trying to gloss over a defeat by slating something he claims Luis to have done.

And just to add that on SSN has started bringing Sturridge into it now as well. He's got more to say about our players than his own.

I hope we batter the hell out of them tomorrow!

FSG willing to listen to offers for Luis Suarez of £40 million.

FSG are reportedly tired of his antics and Suarez is equally tired of being victimised.

I doubt it's that, FSG would be happy to make a profit on him and further reduce the wage bill.

Ye they are sick of him getting goals and champagne after games and playing unbelievable. Get a grip

They sold Torres didn't they? Why wouldn't they sell Suarez (even though he's our best players by far).

hi ed, do you think there is any chance of liverpool going for lampard, cheers keep up the good work mate. . {Ed019's Note - 0}

12 Jan 2013 12:41:57
Im ready to be attacked and Im ready to be corrected
BUT I HAVE NO FAITH IN FSG OR THEIR PROJECT. The only way they could suceed is by being the cleverest guys in the room, yet every big decision they take seems to show that is far far from the reality.

FSG The case against.

1 No coherent transfer policy.
*Andy Carroll no matter how you twist the Torres sale he was not worth £35m.
*Given we are limited in funds why did the ownership allow one large crippling splurge by Daglish and Commoli? What an ill advised gamble that has set us back a decade.
* Given we have limited funds why did we pay £20m £16m plus for Downing and Henderson which was way over the odds.
* We pursued Sahin pay him big wages and don't play him then let him leave( also cm was never a priority in the summer esp when we were left fatally short upfront) Sahin is yet another costly mistake.
* Letting Andy Carroll leave and yet not replaing him. Utd lost the league on goal difference so buy RVP, we couldnt score enuf last campaign and only add the unproven Borini at £11m.
* Failure to act Jan window 2012 when it was clear our goal threat was lacking.

2 PR GAFFS
* The handling of Suarez gate, allowing club website to publish ill thought statements etc no one talking the riens.
* Publishing through their sports news website the signing of Clint Dempsey, and follow on fallout with Fulham.
* Appointing Jen Chang to clean up our PR he then goes and threatens a blogger and is forced to leave having created more negative press(you couldnt script it).
* BEING LIVERPOOL don't even need to elaborate.

3 IN Coherent strategy
* We are told there will be a DOF with some exciting names circulating, we the appoint Rodgers who the club allow to change this strategy( even though he is massively lacking in experience and has never managed a huge club before.
* The appointment of Commoli who has a very dubious reputation.

There are many more worrying areas here, the loss of Pep Segura etc. But what I don't get is what do FSG believe they can achieve? Can they ultimately make money through marketing etc while the club remains under performing?

Deeply worried that we are meant to hope an inexperienced manager a group of youngsters albeit talented and signings like Borini and Sturridge are meant to excite and create hope.

WE ARE A LONG WAY FROM KANSAS

12 Jan 2013 14:05:43
We have limited funds BECAUSE we spent so much on players, so your argument is kinda dead in water really!
The transfer policy has been revised since then!
I have no doubt the owners COULD put similar spending in place again, but they are responsible owners who learn from their mistakes.

I was just wandering if there was any chance of us landing Lampard?

Seriously,

I can't believe some of the tosh on here about wanting Torres back!

He had a golden 12 months or so with us, got injured and was never the same player again. He loped around anfield for 18 months spitting his dummy out if he had to move more than three yards and is doing exactly the same at Chelsea.

That glide he had that allowed him to ghost past defenders has long gone. That was his most potent weapon. Without that, he has what we all see now, namely a fairly average to decent forward with an attitude problem.

His days are gone. We need players such as Suarez who will play for the cause and chase everything. If he moves, then sobeit but Torres the answer? Not in a million years

Move on once and for all Torres lovers....it's an accident we don't need now or in the future.

Does anyone else here rate manuel fernandes of besiktas highly?
I know he had a half decent stint with everton ..looks a bit like dembele coz he can't be dispossessed of the ball easily & a bit like diame ..an engine of the midfield and built like a tank ..is experienced, cheapish and good passer of the ball and fantastic long distance shooter..very compact and complete midfielder we could get at a fairly decent price ..we badly need more cover in the middle with games coming thick and fast..

Hi eds & reds,

What do you all make of Gerrard's recent interview regarding LFC transfer policy? It seems he is being as critical as possible in public to me.

Maybe he's pushing for the return of Alonso? (although im not sure Alonso would really offer us much anymore)

Sorry Ed, but got to disagree with you there. Xabi would be great, working with Lucas as he did with Maschi, and distributing the ball with vision and intelligence. How could he not be worthwhile? And he'd bleed for us for sure.

Gerrard saying that the club is relying too much on youths & 28 & 29 year old players often move clubs and do brilliantly.

Do you know who's around that age? Torres & Sneijder. I'm therefore taking this comment from Gerrard as incontrivertable proof that both those players are arriving and will decry FSG & Rodgers' lack of enthusiasm and link Gerrard with a move away over it.

gmorn ed's and fellow reds, so sahin has left. Good riddance I say. Fair play to BR. It didn't work out and he got rid quickly. Sahin looked a decent player but as BR has said on numerous occasions that he wants flexible players who can play multi positions who will die every day for the team. Now say what you want about hendo, allen and downing but they keep their head down and work for the team wherever they are asked to play. When sahin didn't play his natural position he sulked and ran to the press saying he wasn't happy. So we got rid. No room for sentiment, we saved money on wages and recouped some of the loan fee if reports are to be believed. It's time we got behind the lads who give their all for the club every day for us rather than criticise them constantly. I would rather we got 1 more lad in with that die for the shirt mentality rather than 3 or 4 who just played when it suited them or cried every time they were asked to play somewhere they don't have the stomach for. Onwards and upwards I say. Really looking forward to the match tomorrow. I think if we play to our max level we will be victorious. To be honest I'm not bothered who's the ref or what fergie has to say. I'm just hoping for a cracking match and let the best team win. Like I said if we play our own game to the max we will win. It's up to us. YNWA Simonpw

Sahin, Cole and a couple of others to leave at least on loan for the remainder of the season is freeing up some wage scope to bring in a loan to buy attacking player.

After we win at Old Trafford and jam it up SAF and his endless mind games, the owners will finally make a move to signify the intent to return to where we belong.

A certainly Wesley from Inter Milan will arrive on a subsidised wage with an option at season end.

Also I think Carra will start against Man you ahead of Wisdom and will spend a fair bit of time looking to curb RVP.

We are due a favourable bounce against them, lets hope we are all smiling!

Eds. ignoring any actual interest in your opinion who do you think would be ideal for Liverpool right now? {Ed001's Note - Honda and Hummels stand out for me as ideal signings, off the top of my head.}

Have to agree with you here ed, I think with sturridge borrini and suarez we can finish chances ok, the problem for me is still that we don't create enough quality chances. Suarez has had to create a lot of his own goals from nothing. The stats might show we are making a lot but how many are actually really difficult?
We need more creativity in the side.

12 Jan 2013 10:22:11
Stevie G has just knocked FSG's youth transfer policy, saying he doesn't believe its the only way forward for LFC.

Gerard believes there should be a ballance between youth and experience in the LFC squad, citing the case of Garry McAllister as an example of what experience brings to a team,
Our talisman also said he learnt a lot from Gary as well meaning our youth needs to learn from someone too.

Fortunately, this same view is shared by most fans here who equally believe Ince may not really be the answer to our problem right now.

Our scouts with football brains have identifief Selcuk Innan of Gala as our perfect number 10 in the making who also fits our passing style.

I hope we dont't miss out on this gem who is dubbed the assist king and passing maestro of the Turkish league, if he is available.
He'll turn 28 this Jan and won't command exhorbitant transfer fees either.
We've got promising youngsters that are emerging from the academy and we just can't afford to throw them into the first team to play week in and week without first sending them out on loan to acquire some experience.

This is why we need experience now and not potential as we have enough of that already.

I would be pleased to see Selcuk Innan and any other striker in the mould of Musa Sow, Kevin Gameiro or even Burak Yilmaz. They are all experienced and are within our reach, especially if our rumoured interests are true.

Abroad Red {Ed001's Note - does Gerrard not realise he should be the 'McAllister' along with Carragher?}

Exactly Ed1!
You only need one or two and sadly it doesn't make Gerrard to too smart not to realize he's now one of em.

Some will obviously use this to their own advantage to warrant spending Stupid amounts of money on errrrr! Sneider at a guess

I'm no genius when it comes to maths, but surely we must push out the boat to sign Sneijder! We now have £180k off our wage bill, we allegedly have £20 million to spend thus window! With £12 million going on Sturridge we have £8 million left! This would allow us to sign Sneijder and still pay his wages and not be out of pocket! Don't bother with Ince and were still balancing the books! Mr. Werner said he would put smiles on faces of LFC fans! This is now your chance to please us all and a certain Mr. Gerrard!

I'd be happy with one more sighing, a world class forward spend about 20 mill one someone, our build up play is good we just need people to finish off our chances. United have 4 very good forwards and that's how they always win last minutes, they throw 3 on close to the end of games. We usualy have just Suarez trying to rescue points for us.

12 Jan 2013 09:34:51
Dont ask me why, but I think that BR has a trick up his sleeve and Carragher will start and Sturridge on the bench !

Personally I hope we sit back for the first half and frustrate them. Playing Carra will help in this respect. Think about it. Carra, Skrtl, Agger sitting there, with Wisdom and Johnson holding back in the first half. Utd would struggle to find any real space. In midfield we have Stevie, Allen, Hendo and Lucas. Leave Suarez up front on his own first half.

They would have to fight their way through our strong midfield before they even got close to the back five. Who knows the odd long ball from Stevie may just catch them out in the first half, but we need to be patient and not go gung ho too early. Bide your time boys.

Second half will be different cos they will go all guns blazing at us having had the hair dryer treeatment from Whiskey nose. But if we continue to frustrate them and attack on the break with Johnson and Wisdom starting to overlap plus Stevie moving up to support Luis up front, who knows ?

Bring Sturridge on later in the game and you never know, his speed may just nick the winner in the 112th minute (cos nil nil is no good to Fergie so were going to be playing for a long time).

Patience boys, wear them out, frustrate them, no two footed tackles, keep the crowd silent and then steal it near the end with a goal that not even Webb could disallow...

We have some real quality players to choose from, StevieG, Suarez, Lucas, Skrtl, Agger, Johnson, Reina etc, plus the wise old head of Carra and a load of young lads who will be experiencing OT for the first time.. we can do this boys !

Go out there boys and enjoy the game, try your best and we will be behind you !

Oh happy days !

Tel 1949

Are you mad? You want to sit deep and let carra take on an inform van Persie!

I think the back four picks its self at the minute. With wisdom rb, Johnson lb and skrtle and agger at cb. I'd play Gerrard, Lucas holding and shelvey pushing up behind sterling lf, Suarez cf and downing rf. Then bring Sturridge on for downing second half at cf and push Suarez rf.

I certainly wouldn't mess with the formation against utd we need to play are game and control possession as best we can and the goals will come.

Also old whiskey nose has been saying that Howard the Red Webb should keep an eye on Suarez at tomorrow match. I think the ref for tomorrows match should be one that doesn't live in fergies pocket!!

Cur Fergie is frightened sh*tless about Suarez and the damage he can cause to his UNunited defence - so he puts pressure on Howard - and the FA see nothing wrong - David Gill is Vice Chairman of the FA - I case my rest - if Suarez signed for UNunited would things change?

It must drive you mad sometimes. Maybe make the search button a bit bigger??
Anyway what is your prediction for the match on Sunday? I'm betting on a 1-3 liverpool win and Louis to be the star of the show and ram those twisted words back down old whiskey nose's throat!! {Ed002's Note - It will be a 4-2 loss for Liverpool sadly, with the handball by van Persie knocking the ball on for the third goal in the 78th minute.}

Ed002 you forgot to mention the 99th minute penalty awarded by and taken by Howard Webb...

Sir O.B.Noxious is back 'talking the talk'! I find it unnecessary and inflammatory with ulterior motives but far too many people (i.e. the Sporting Press) cling to every word as if it were gospel. Let him control his own players before attacking the opposition.

Here's the latest :

liverpool wants torres back

torres wanzs tongonto liverpool

chelsea doesnt sellmbecause benitez would be jealous.

ynwa {Ed002's Note - Benitez does not decide who is sold.}

That's right, Chelsea doesn't want to sell because Benitez will be jealous. WTF??!!

12 Jan 2013 13:03:20
More likely "Chelsea doesn't want to sell because they only have 1 other striker".

It strikes me as entirely non-sensical that Chelsea would, sell us Sturridge, confirm Lukaku's loan at WBA for the rest of the season and then sell us Torres too. Surely they'd have kept Sturridge or recalled Lukaku rather than sign 2 strikers in the window?

Look forward not back

Torres is a shadow of his former self.
For two years prior to leaving he was nicking a living.

Rafa lost the plot and it was time to go.

King Kenny was and is a great for LFC, but putting him back in the infrastructure brings unwelcome pressure on the management.

If you want a real issue, why don't we ask FSG to freeze/reduce ticket prices, TV money is going up 40% next season, where is the justification for charging £40 plus if your revenues are going up.
Good luck to the players getting there lottery wages, but they don't need any more .

Hi eds, great site great work. Hats of to you all for dealing with all the waffle on here.
This is not related to any rumour.
This is a FACT!
Why are there so many people out there that are so uneducated it makes me cringe reading their posts.
Please, please, please use spell check before you post.

With inter accepting a 10million euro (£8.3m) bid from Galatasary and Sneijder prob gonna accept terms by tomorrow, can some1 tell me wat is going on? surely he has more attractive options?

I posted yesterday one very good reason why he will not be welcome in Turkey but the post was pulled (Ed 002?). I think that he would be a good option but I also think that it is not going to happen. Whether he comes or not I still believe that we are going in the right direction.

To all of you mentioning Sahin replacements: he was never in the first eleven! Why replace a squad player with a higher earning one in Sneijder who is very unlikely as he's expensive and injured/ out of shape. Or replace him with some other deluded player you envision us signing? It's not going to happen, accept it rather than whining post after post. The club will let us all know if they do sign anyone, as speculation as we all know means pretty much nothing until they are wearing the shirt on the pitch!

So a thin squad becomes thinner?

12 Jan 2013 03:44:15
Hi guys so we had Warner telling us we will be very happy at the end of January.... We have Rodgers telling us he has backing in the transfer market... We have Rodgers telling us we don't have a strong enough squad to compete wich is correct! But now somehow "theres nothing more in the pipeline" and we have got rid of 3 players and signed 1? Is anybody else getting confused? Unless we have a big suprise coming? wich I doubt because Rodgers has said repeatably there was never going to be a lot of money in January! I really hope FSG put there money where there mouth is!

BC

P.S Torres playing the worst football of his career with no confidence and is Chelsea's highest goal scorer with 14 goals he's a goal scorer and I'd have him back Ina heartbeat!

Cheers!

I didn't know we're owned by Warner Bros...

As for that ladyboy, he's only 1 ahead of Mata! very poor for a striker!

i really hope BR and the owners have something going om that know one knows about because we have a thin squad and that was with sahin and cole in the squad, now there's bad decision making over coates if they are going to sell him it would be better to loan him out and let him develop like tom ince did, but back to our very thin squad now with 2 experienced players gone, so there's either 2 points on the table, 1 is to get players in to cover and i think tom ince would not fill either role that has been left, so we need more players on midfield but experienced ones to help the young kids because that what i think they are going to do, use the likes of henderson and joe allen and stevie and lucas, but we need better players to get us through to the end of the season, and if the owners of BR can't see this then we are in trouble, because we have big games coming up and them players mentioned will burn out because there's no quality back up, we all want big names but just a big decent midfielder would do, someone in the style of yaya toure,, but we are losing too many players making our squad very thin and with a few injurys which could be long term then we will struggle, but if BR and the owners get it right then 4 th is there for the taking, we have done well with one striker but with 2 we should do better, but there's no creativity from midfield unless suarez has to set sturridge and himself up again,

put it this way everton and newcastle bought 2 strikers and jelevic scored the goals to get them to finish above us, and we all know what papa cisse done, we were know where near them in the january window last season, if team like that can get players like that why can't we, or is it that BR is waiting for some more of his old players he's coached to come to the club,

selling vcoates would be a disater in the andy carrol mode and tom ince, loan him out let him get match fit and let him show his doubters who call themselves fans what he can do,, people want to look and his interception rate,, as ive said before january is going to be a make or break window for us, and we have got rid of the mostt players this season than any other club,, well role on sunday we usually raise our game afainst the mancs

sorry for the rant but im starting to get worried, its starting to look like the summer transfers were we were left in the lurch

mickey be
JFT96

Why would we need any more midfield? That's one of our most covered areas.. Use your head

If you read my post you would have seen were i wrote about experiences and quality midfielders coming in, beside stevie g, who else in our midfield would you call experienced with quality, lucas allen and henderson are young but they are not really wuality players with the experience to run the midfield, lucas is a spoiler, he does not win the ball and run with it and score does he, allen and henderson does not do that either, yaya toure does, im not saying get him we all know we can't afford him, but there's got to be better quality and more experienced and stronger and bigger midfielders out there, m'villa or moussa sissoko could come in and do a better job than allen, henderson and lucas,

thats why i said we need more midfielders, maybe some one like benat or another creative midfielder, other smaller clubs seem to find them, but i truely believe BR is only interested in the players he has already coached or do you think its just coincidence that every player he has bought he has already coached, we nearlly signed m.sissoko why not sign him now he was being touted as the next stevie g, he's young which fits the owners criteria, also he is very cheap, the only thing going against him is that BR has not coached him in the past, it would not suprise me if alonso wanted to come back but we miss out on him because he has not been coached by Br, now you know why i said more midfielders

12 Jan 2013 02:47:39
a certain old number 9 possibly on the cards....dig out your old shirts unless you've already burnt them

Torres is NOT COMING BACK. Sorry for shouting but he isn't, and why would we want a player back that left us in the lurch, slagged us off and only plays when he wants ?

I see that Ferguson is already ramping up the propaganda and pressure on Howard Webb... Why does the FA not act on anything he does? Isn't there some sort of rule about making comments to sway referees before a match? Who is he to tell Howard Webb what he should be watching during the game? I am gonna lose my mind on Sunday if they get another cheap penalty like the one Valencia got in the first meeting, a total dive it was. Praying for an even and un-biased game called by Webb.

So now that's sahin we've driven away. A (on his day) world class player who many champions league teams would welcome into their team, however we give him a few games, in which he scored 3 goals, but then drop him in place of Allen/henderson who have performed no better than him, scored less between then and will never be as good as Sahin. It was the same as Aquilani, gave him the odd game (in which he played reasonably well) but then decide to drop him in place of a midfielder who performs no better. I don't understand, their the two most technical adept, midfield play makers we've had in recent years and they've both been wasted for questionable reasons. But yeah, go ahead Brendan carry on playing Allen and Hendo and lets see come the end of the season how many assists and goals they have between then (im guessing no more than 6 between them for both stats), and why'll your at it let Assaidi rot on the bench aswell (the closest thing to Suarez dribbling wise we have at the club), why'll Downing continues to set the pitch alight with quality. Seems British players are the only ones garanteed a game regardless of performance.

Carl

Henderson and shelvey have made it clear they can step up in to te first team which maybe BR didn't think they could do. So why would we slow down their progress for someone who is going to cost a bomb in the summer?

Assaidi is out in Africa atm and Downing hasn't played too badly lately and deserves to stay in the team. Allen is BR's love child so will play if fit, it's a way of BR proving to us why he spent big on him in the summer. I think he will come good, just needs time and experience. Sahin left as he preferred to play in a holding role, although in my mind he was doing OK and scoring goals, but been injured since. BR prefers Gerrard and Lucas there now. My worry atm is Coates and as of his last interview, has he had trouble grasping the English language? Eds can you help on that one?

does anybody agree with me that once we have got the city game on 3rd if feb out the way we have a good set of fixtures to pick up poimnts between then and the end of the season ? if we find that level of consistency and pick up one or 2 more players in transfers to help the squad out aswell as youth improvmemt ? onwards and upwards

Dear Eds please can you set up a Torres page for all the daydreamers that want to talk and fantasise about him as it is putting me off this website. Torres will not come back as we won't pay him the extortionate amount he would want in wages for a start, he is not worth the millions Chelsea would want for him and we don't want a sulky player that does not perform when he spits hid dummy out, it will not happen get over it.

12 Jan 2013 00:22:46
I'm getting sick of it, Liverpool fans being too focused on the past and not the future. Stop talking about exx players, alonso, torres etc and focus on our current ones. We want to go forward not back.

Torres is the one that annoyes me the most, left last minute during the transfer window, made us panic buy Carrol. He left when we needed him most, and when he did play he sulked. Anyone who wants him back is an person.

We did not need to buy Carroll we had just bought Suarez, yes we bought him to play with Torres, but we had Kuyt who could play up front.Carroll was bought to appease fans, it was a crazy bit of business.I still shake my head at what we paid for him, considering the amount of Premiership games he had played.

I think most of the posts hoping for Liverpool to buy Torres are from Chelsea fans. Not going to happen lads no matter how hard you pray

12 Jan 2013 00:22:25
There is NO chance of Torres coming back to LFC. Why are people so fixated on this!? Get over it. Move on. Stop wasting energy. Quit posting about him! The squad is young, talented, and growing. Have to be excited. Sunday will be phenomenal. Come on you Reds!

Ok here's a few questions for you fellow reds:

Q1) Would you take Torres back?
Q2) Do you think he could return this month or the summer?
Q3) Do you think Alonso will return this summer?
Q4) Do you think we'll sell Downing or/and Henderson this summer?
Q5) Do you think we should sell them?

Sahin. Another reason for FSG to hold back transfer funds. Who is behind these deals it's embarrassing. Sahin, 100k a week J.cole, £35m for Carroll then loaning him out, Dempsey arguing over tuppence and Signing Ince for millions when we already had him. Not to mention spending millions on average players like Borini and Allen. No wonder we can't afford a top player

We should forget signing Tom Ince, instead we should promote Ibe to the first team, this kid is quicker, pacier and better on the ball, a much better prospect.

As for the rumours about Torres, it simply isn't going to happen. His success at Anfield was largely based on his understanding with Gerrard, but Gerrard now plays a different role than what he did under Rafa.if he can't strike up an understanding with the likes of Lampard, Hazard or even Mata, then he is well and truly past it.

If we were going to go for another striker it should be someone younger who would relish the chance to play for a team like us. My choice would be Damiao, that is if we did want another striker.

Henderson is playing well when he gets a chance to do the gerrard role or box to box I don't see why fans make him the scapegoat.

Hey eds. alot of stuff going about saying gerrard isn't too happy about our new youth transfer policy. What's your opinion on this? Do you believe just buying youth will help us suceed or do you believe buying experienced players will benefit us more? Sorry if Iv posted this question teice, I'm not sure if it went through last time.

Thanks for your time,
Clem {Ed001's Note - I don't care to be honest, he is a player, he has enough to do concentrating on getting his form back.}

Gerrard knows that what he wants (the title) can't be won with youngsters, but with a mixture and his time is running out! I like the idea of our team being really good in 3-4 years time as they've been moulded into a good side, but in the olden days we brought the odd young player into a successful side, not a whole bunch at the same time! We need patience for the current plan to work and know some fans are losing theirs! Myself, I'd like to see a few more experienced buys to work alongside the young ones, as who else are they to learn from?

we should get torres back if we are serious about the champions league! just imagine torres, suarez, sturridge up front with sterling, stevie and lucus behind we would win games with the team playing easy on the eye footy!! torres was the best player i ever seen live he rose on his toes with the ball at his feet and gave the defenders the eyes and the rest is history!!! can't really see it happening but if i was the new manager i would not worry about what has gone before. but rather what we should be looking forward to as a club united together... Y.N.W.A

I bet you still have posters of him on your wall don't you, i reckon you might sing his song every night before you go to sleep too. You need to move on mate, plenty more fish in the sea

I think Suarez, Sturridge and my nan would be the slightly more preferable option. It's a close call but my nan has a bit more pace and a better attitude than Torres

cozinoz

'we should get torres back if we are serious about the champions league'

Rubbish! If he's doing the business for his present club, would they be hammering him?! There's no excuse for not playing well because he's unhappy! He's paid very well to do a job, and he's got his former manager to support him yet still can't deliver!
He has not only lost his mojo, but also something is not right in the head.

A good player rise above adversity- look at our Lucas: he was booed in the early stages of his LFC career. He was played out of position, but but he didn't sulk; he simply pulled his socks up, worked hard and has proved the doubters wrong

Torres believes he has to be star of the team - everything must go through him. He couldn't play alongside Drogba; what makes you think he'll accomodate Suarez and Sturridge?!

His return will upset the balance in the team, so absolutely NO!

Singred

Why would anyone want Torres back? Even if you forgive his lack of effort and sulking in his last few months for us and the disrespect he showed the club and fans on his departure he is now a shadow of the player he was when we first signed him. He has lost that initial burst of pace that he relied on and in my opinion he will never get back to his best.
Norfolk Red

Bet you said that when he was desperate to leave us through our hardest hour? We never forget!

Torres has very limited ability

Especially in his link play and contribition to the overall team.

Torres main strength was his ability to score goals and many of those goals were put on a plate for him by Gerrard.

Torres does have good technical ability to finish off a goal chance though unlike the current LFC striker who needs 20 chances for one goal.

If Torres had not played for us previously, and you judged him purely on his performances over the last 2-3 years, there would be outcry from the fans at the talk of spending £20m on him.

There is no doubt that in his prime he was truley world class and at times was unplayable, but sadely this is no longer the case. I for one would much sooner we invested in young, talented players who are hungry for success rather than players on the decline.

11 Jan 2013 23:17:04
why is it every good striker we get don't last to long were building a team god sake where is the loyalty

Ask Jay Spearing or Carroll about loyalty - it works both ways. If players aren't up to scratch we call to get rid but if they are good, we demand loyalty. There's too much money involved in football, and careers are too short, for loyalty to be a major factor. A few weeks ago posters were shouting that Gerrard and Carra should go yet can you get more devoted and loyal than the local lads? The best players should be on a good wage if we want to keep them at the club

cozinoz

Who the hell are you talking about? Stop being silly and grow up!

No loyalty in football and money talks, we are building team far to long and still miles away

Where is the punctuation?

11 Jan 2013 23:12:04
As Joni Mitchell once said "you don't know what you've got till its gone" and i think Torres probably now believes this is the case. Once in a while Players suit certain teams and teams suit certain players e.g Ian Rush, Lion Britton, and Torres certainly suited Liverpool and Liverpool certainly suited Torres.
How many 26 year olds make the wrong decision in Life, especially when they listen to outside influences, I certainly did. Torres went for what he thought were the right reasons, Liverpool were in turmoil and he thought the grass would be greener, his immaturity in the situation showed through with certain ill thought out comments, comments that I believe were said not because he really felt that way but comments he made to almost reassure himself that he had made the right decision, but underneath he truly had misgivings about the move and the nature of the move.
Liverpool fans loved Torres and he will never get that admiration of any other set of fans, including his boyhood club Athletico.
When Torres arrived at Liverpool something special occurred, some kind of special connection was made a bond if you like, Liverpool fans had not had such a connection since the Fowler and Dalglish days, and Torres broke that connection when he left, he hurt so many fans that adored him and at a time when the club needed him most.
People of all ages make mistakes in life and have to live by their actions, I for one never wanted Torres to succeed at Chelski, however I believe now is the time to forgive and forget. Fernando made the wrong decision and now is the time to forget, if he did come back then i am sure he would be forgiven but I do believe that coming back is not an option, Liverpool have moved on with a new manager, new players and plans for the future that don't include past players. So from a True Red, Thanks Fernando for all the good times you gave us, good luck and get out of Chelsea as soon as possible and resurrect your career.
Plastic fans with no history.

Evered

Good idea - let's forget him

I agree with most of what you say. I remember Rushie coming back and succeeding, again!
But the one stumbling block would be that Chelsea would not sell him cheaply. 50M to what? How much different parties would offer or demand? Would've been interesting if it happened but I see no chance of that happening.
Although, Liverpool fans would've shown Chelsea fans how to 'support' a striker...
Iranred in London

He now has a champions league medal to go with his spain ones so wasnt too bad of a decision.

Kopping a feel

If you look at the statement FT9 made when he had signed for Chavski and the more recent statement from Demba Ba there are more than a few similarities, both say what a "big" club Chavski are & how they have moved on in their careers to a "bigger" club. This reeks of Roman & Chavski as a forced statement to burn bridges with the previous club & its fans. Just a thought.

Ancient history now...move on!

Great post sums up how I feel and just makes me realise that Chelski might have loads of money but they have zero class!

LFC is a great club and we should be proud of what we have got let's not lose our class but not support all the players and staff we have cause that's what makes us great our loyalty and support!

YNWA JFT96 jns

Is his house in Woolton still for sale?

Agree with the comments forgive and forget. If he wanted to come back fine. Sure the players would welcome him with open arms.

Iggypop

I think if we had br in charge at that time instead of kk things might have turned out different . When kk looked at Torres he just £££££. And we all know how he spent that . So I don't blame torres 100 per cent. But footballers want trophys and medals and he has got them since he left us. As much as I would love to see a Torres and Suarez partnership up front it will never happen! But we got a new hero in Suarez and we just to concentrate on not losin him .

P.s I just hope Torres doesn't do a Michael own and end up at the mancs.

As part of growing up mistakes are made

Did Torres make a mistake?

He has a CL league medal he would not have got at LFC

The problem with Chelsea ia the same at Citeh no real heart

All you people thinking Torres will come back, take a second to think. He jumped ship because he wanted trophies. He has already achieved a champions league and FA cup sincle leaving.

Why would he come back to us?

Noshbag

He thought he was bigger than the club, people need to wake up he thought nothing of us, he left the club when we needed him the most.
He was my hero too.
Eam

So Torres got a CL medal with Chelsea. My memory of the game was he came on for extra time, hardly touched the ball, then was over-looked to take a penalty behind three members of the CFC defence. A total world-wide humiliation for a striker of his calibre. My memory of that final is him kicking off at DM and bitching to journos in the tunnel after. Saying Torres has a CL league medal with CFC is a bit like saying Owen has a league medal from his time with United. Worthless.

OK lets have a debate....

This Window; Cole gone and Sahin due to loan/fitness not working out. Players not playing regularly but on big salaries; good that they've gone?

Foe me its a positive; the more higher earners that are off the books the better.

Henderson, Enrique and Downing - are they having better seasons than last year? Should we keep them; have they got a future?

For me I think Henderson has improved (and still needs to) but he has got the work ethic so looks promising). Enrique has been 7-8 out of 10 since he returned. I don't want to knock Downing but I don't see him being here long term (i'd happily be proved wrong though).

Tom Ince - worth signing? Is he going to want things and cause issues if he doesnt get his way? Looks good but should we wait another season for Ibe?

Borini is back soon - do we think with the competition for places we're be looking a lot better?

FA Cup/Europa League - going to be interesting if we can keep people fit - might be able to progress in both to a decent stage.

Brendan Rodgers - Happy with him?

Personally I am - he's made some mistakes but if he learns by them all well and good - also i think we've got a potential good team unfolding with the youngsters - next 3 transfer windows we add quality then I think things will look good for us - paitence is a virtue though...

Hoola

More than happy with BR.

Have a thin squad and losing Sahin AND Cole without replacing is a big mistake.

This means progression is doubtful on the CL place, Europa and FA cup, to small and inexperienced squad.

Signed Sturridge, great but hold on, why has no one remembered we messed up in the Summer and were meant to sign a forward then, admitted by BR himself.

So the business so far is finished off the summer signing and budget. Get rid of two international players at the cost of £7mil.
Miss out on Ince, Holtby, Sissoko, Mirin and still expect to get into CL

Question should have been are we happy with FSG and what they are NOT doing for our club. They seem to like a bid don't they, just a £1 - 2mil short and then disappear. Mmmm I feel sorry for BR cause he'll be the fall guy the fans turn on

Pointless me having a debate with you, because I agree with what you said. Would like Downing to succeed but again his time may be up sooner or later. Rodgers is doing a great job slowly it's starting to come together. All you have do is listen to the comments coming from the players about Rodgers, one of the big moments I felt for Rodgers was after the Everton game with Carragher shaking his hand and having a little quip with him. They all seem to say something positive about him. But I like your post
