Hey eds, just wondering if you have seen the comments supposedly made by Agger to the paper Bild where he says the reason for his early retirement is that he was forced to take pain killers by Liverpool which he said has damaged his body. Just wondering what you make of this? Are Bild a reliable paper? Surely that would lead to implications to the club if we are forcing our players to take medications that at the end of the day are doing them harm.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing of it, sorry.}

12 Jun 2016 23:38:15
Ok thanks for the reply eds. Hopefully isn't the case, as i along with every fan has massive love for DAgger. Hopefully isn't the case anyway.

{Ed001's Note - Bild are a tabloid, but it has been known for a long time that Agger was playing on painkillers and that was why he was struggling with injuries. They were too much for his body to cope with.}

13 Jun 2016 00:56:57
Can a club force you to take medication?

13 Jun 2016 03:59:17
Could be true . But i think its during Rafa's reign rather than Rogers.

{Ed001's Note - it did start during Rafa's reign. For once you are correct.}

13 Jun 2016 10:39:28
"Can a club force you to take medication? "

If they acted illegally then I suppose they could i. e. Strap you down and inject you with something, or slip something in your food/ drink.
Otherwise I can't see how anyone can force you to take medication, you always have a choice.

13 Jun 2016 12:43:43
In many sports it's common for players to be given pain killers to get them through matches. Whether this is always done with the players best interests at heart is debatable.

13 Jun 2016 13:06:09
Why would he be forced by the club. he may have said he was forced to take painkillers since being at liverpool. meaning forced by the situation, because there was no other solution and his only other option was to quit. like he has done now.

{Ed001's Note - the insinuation was he had to take painkillers to play, when he should have been allowed to recover for longer.}

12 Jun 2016 22:25:26
{Ed002's Note -
Liverpool's reputation within the business is poor and what little respect clubs had for them went with
}

I agree with you Ed002 and this is something I posted many times in the last couple of years. But what I don't understand is why? who is making these stupid decisions, tapping players and offering ridiculous amounts way below the sellers valuations . on the other hand we go and pay over the odds for other players . I can't figure out how the club is run these days .

Believable9 Unbelievable6

13 Jun 2016 02:39:03
I think ed002 has it spot on with his assessment, there is no one individual that is the problem.
Klopp has been tapping up players, the question is why isn't anyone clamping down on it and telling him to stop.
I can only imagine it's Ayre who low-balls teams for players we're interested in/ tapping up. Again, the question is why hasn't anything been done about it?
The fans have to take responsibility for their behaviour at the European games against Man Utd. 'Hate chants' are pointless and self defeating. Focus on our players and chant to inspire them. Setting off flares and vandalism is just mindless. As a group of fans, we ought to be better than that and the vast majority are. We used to self-police in the past but some of that has long gone.

With the exception of the fans, I'd like to know what Michael Gordon is thinking. Obviously Ayre is moving on and there must be someone else coming in. The new person needs to start rebuilding our reputation immediately. With respect to Klopp and his tapping up, Mr Gordon really needs to get a grip on this as it ultimately costs LFC.

13 Jun 2016 06:35:29
When you don't appoint the right people at the top of the tree, then it has a ripple effect all the way thru the club. You only have to look at some of the chaotic appointments since Fsg have been in charge and the damaging effect it has had on the club and on the pitch. Starting with Commoli all the way to Rodgers and other personnel in between (not just managers) . For instance we are told that clubs have lost all respect for Lfc after their treatment of Bolton and Jay Spearing, could you imagine this happening 10 years ago. I certainly couldnt.

{Ed001's Note - 10 years ago I could. In fact any time since Moores stepped in I could imagine it, as we have been purely run since his days. Before then, no, the fee would have been waived and Jay allowed to get on with his career. If the club wanted to maximise the money, they could have easily negotiated a future fee due on a later sale of the lad or something, though personally I think they should have just let it go and wish the lad all the best.}

12 Jun 2016 18:30:34
Dont know about zielinski but this lad kapustka is looking solid, 19 and plays for cracovia? He might come a little cheaper.

Will definatly move now but have Liverpool been aware of him eds?

12 Jun 2016 22:28:20
He plays for polish league and is a player Buvac has recommended Klopp lately. Don't be surprised if Klopp signs him. I have heard from a source that Buvac has asked Klopp to watch the player personally.

12 Jun 2016 22:42:07
Looks a lovely player. He's likes the polish players a lot, I don't know whether he had much influence on Dortmund signing them or they on him.

But wouldn't mind zielinksi, karustka and milik 😊.

13 Jun 2016 00:11:22
Hopefully we'll be signing players based on more than the 90 minutes played against a lack lustre Northern Ireland team .

13 Jun 2016 06:31:00
I think it was clear to see regardless of opposition that the kid was a bit special. His touch and awareness was natural, that's talent. Forget it's NI and appreciate he was at a major tournament, first game, millions of people watching and he was very confident at times, impressive.

{Ed001's Note - he was being tracked by Southampton among others, so he could be a future big money buy, as our scouts seem to all have season tickets there.....}

13 Jun 2016 07:09:50
I think Southampton must be the only club we haven't alienated and that's why we only sign their players.
Every other club in the world is hacked off with us.

13 Jun 2016 12:09:46
Never get that its because of the opposition. His touch and passing was because ni were crap? His awareness and movement where because ni were crap. So when they play Germany he will have a first touch like a baby rhino, his passing will just always go to a German player and he won't be able to track any runs. Lol

Nice player. Not saying he's a qoels beater but looks like he would add competetion to our midfield straight away.

12 Jun 2016 21:26:03
A question for one of the eds here. I am watching the Germany and Ukraine game and the commentator mentioned how the German Federation in 2008 decided to tear up their model as they weren't having their desired results. Can anyone tell me what they changed?

Have anyone heard any news regarding the possible appointment of Bayern Munich fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer? The rumour seems to have gone silent since mid april.

Kind regards
M. Smedegaard.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - It is all agreed.}

13 Jun 2016 04:09:28
They put Matthias Sammer in charge of recruitment/ tactics and look how it went :D i believe it was abit earlier than 2008 though.

12 Jun 2016 20:34:51
Watching the Germany vs Ukraine game and I hear one of the commentators say that we're interested in mustafi after he scored, any truth!

Thanks Eds.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - None.}

12 Jun 2016 21:09:59
I heard the commentator say some thing bout gotze and Liverpool but didn't hear what was Said properly.

12 Jun 2016 21:24:09
None till he scored, then Klopp left him a voicemail to listen to at half time. Lol.

12 Jun 2016 21:27:16
There were reports Liverpool were watching him in Valencia during April. That's about the pip of it. Haven't seen or heard anything since and it was just a paper link, i believe.

12 Jun 2016 22:02:22
He looks ok, better than Moreno, but a bit shaky on defending. Hope Kloop get us playing like German national side . they make it look so easy .

12 Jun 2016 22:02:31
Tedious!

12 Jun 2016 23:45:00
I'm sure Ed1 mentioned us looking at Mustafi. I spoke to him about it I vaguely recall.?

{Ed001's Note - we are one of a number of clubs that monitor him.}

12 Jun 2016 20:31:29
Ed002,

Thanks for all the updates.

I know this isn't a full time job for you, what is your line of work? You seem to be in the football world- have you come across a player or manager who you really disliked at all?

If you can't say, i appreciate why. I just love reading your opinions.

Zielinski in review:

A strong, skillful and direct runner from midfield, with sublime vision and good set piece delivery. Lacking in some defensive areas though. His mistimed tackles saw him banned twice last season for an indirect red card, and accumulating too many yellow cards. In total he got 5 stand alone bookings, plus the 2 in one match which got him sent off.

Of the 35 league games that Zielinski played last season for Empoli they won 12. A win rate of about 35%. Of the 3 games he missed, Empoli lost all 3 games and only managed 1 goal in the process. Zielinski was their key man in midfield when it came to initiating attacks and creating goal scoring opportunities. He created 52 chances in total. His ambition didn't damage his pass completion rate though as he maintained a respectable 82%. Without him in the side, Empoli were a much worse side.

His finishing is good for a 22 year old midfielder, but still needs work. He took 64 shots in total, with 22 on target and 30 off target. A further 12 were blocked so are excluded from his shot accuracy of 42%. In total he managed 5 goals from the 52 shots that weren't blocked, so his conversion rate is approximately 9%.

Despite his tackling needing work, he still managed an average output of 3 defensive actions per game and didn't make a single defensive error in his 35 games. He made a total of 55 interceptions, 45 clearances and 5 blocks. His tackle success rate sits at lowly 44%. He attempted a massive 124 tackles, but only 54 came off and 36 of them resulted in a free kick for the opposition. Despite standing at 1.8m tall, he also doesn't win many headers. In 58 duels, he only won 19 which represents just a 33% success rate.

He drags his overall duel success up though with his brilliant take on success. He attempted 131 take ons with 89 coming off at a 68% success rate. He is so difficult to stop that teams tend to just take him out. He won 31 free kicks.

In conclusion, he is an excellent offensive midfielder who can run with the ball just as effectively as he can pass it, but he needs to improve his tackling and finishing. His biggest strength though is going forward as he starts a lot of attacks and creates a lot of chances. He would definitely compliment Henderson and Can in a 3 man midfield, as whilst they are both very capable players, neither possess the skill and attacking flair that Zielinski boasts.

Thanks a lot mate.

Joe Allen with more pace.

12 Jun 2016 22:29:37
Nothing like Joe Allen. More like a poor mans Pogba.

12 Jun 2016 18:11:05
Apparently Klopp been on phone again telling ziekinski he will get appearances next season.
Do we have permission to speak to him now? Or do we have to get the bid accepted?
It's getting ridiculous that the club won't cough up the asking price of they want him.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

12 Jun 2016 18:53:56
Are you privy to Klopp's phone conversations? If so give me the heads up so I can clean up at the bookies.

12 Jun 2016 19:09:49
Who's telling you Klopp telling him don't believe ever think you read .

12 Jun 2016 19:22:42
Ffs embarrassing.

12 Jun 2016 19:36:01
Are you suggesting we are tapping him up again, the very same thing we did that got Udinese upset and for which UEFA has reprimanded us for? Surely, you can't be serious, right?

12 Jun 2016 17:53:38
Hey eds and reds hope you are all well!
Random but was talking to a friend about all the great songs we used to have for our previous players and we were discussing our faviroutes, I used to love the one we had for Garcia and the Torres one was wondering what your faviroutes were?
Saddens me abit that we don't have as many songs for our players anymore.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - I am an old Deadhead so love all of the Garcia songs. Ripple from American Beauty is probably may favorite Garcia song.}

12 Jun 2016 18:42:26
ed002 a dead head! dire wolf, box of rain, friend of the devil, sugar magnolia and uncle johns band are my favourites ed. one man gathers what another man spills! keep up the good work ed002.

12 Jun 2016 18:48:11
Loved maxi's song, but we need something to make the kop bounce!

12 Jun 2016 21:57:51
The Ian Rush song is brilliant and to the point:

Ian Rush
Ian Rush
I-an Rush
He gets the ball he scores a goal
Ian Rush.

12 Jun 2016 21:33:31
Ah nice pick ed002, loved that one myself! Don't half miss Garcia, Cheers for the reply.

12 Jun 2016 17:11:23
Hey ed001. I know you rate Jordon Ibe. And I do too. And I think the club should probably hold onto him. However, if you're Jordon Ibe, what would you do? I can't help but think of all the players who may have become much more had they have been playing regularly. I don't see him getting regular time next season. A lower table premier league side would suit ibe so well. He could very well develop into a world beater. But he can't do so from the bench. If I'm Ibe, I'm moving.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - personally I would stay and fight for my place. Just put in some extra hours on the training ground after training each day.}

Just to say what a player modric is. Pure class

crooky.

12 Jun 2016 18:03:28
Agreed Crooky- a moment I the second half summed him perfectly. Made himself available on a congested right flank, took one touch in to space then pinged the ball straight on to his strikers forehead. The man is always available and always in space!

12 Jun 2016 19:39:04
Modric is one the specialists got right. He had been promised a great career when he came on to the scene as a 20 yr old at the World Cup in 2006. Great to see he has lived up or even surpassed such expectations. If you wanna see how the CM position is played, watch Luka Modric.

12 Jun 2016 15:27:30
Hmm, is anyone else wondering what happened with Ben Chilwell? I thought he would be a likely signing, imminent in fact, but things seem to have gone quiet.

Could this be because of the injury he picked up on U21 duty? Are Liverpool still busy trying to agree a deal with Leicester? Or have Liverpool decided to move on to another target for the left back position?

Also sounds like Piotr Zielinski is of interest to Liverpool but I am bemused by the 9.5 million offer. I thought Udinese made it clear to all that they would accept no less than 12.5 million?

Udinese are already pissed with us - because of the possible taping of a player under contract - so surely we should just bite the bullet, and avoid any possible backlash if we really, really want the player.

I think the signing of Zielinski will signal the end of our interest in Mahmoud Dahoud, for this season at least.

We might go for him again next season, which would be great as he seems to have a real quality about him, but we have too many centre mids in the side to warrant another addition to that position.

I have to admit that - unlike others on this site - I think are signings have been pretty good so far. But I am more interested in outgoings as we really need to move a lot of players to reduce the wage bill and reduce the number of players we have.

I also think Markovic will leave for Galatasary, which is surprising as he has been very injury prone this season. Shame to see him leave without being given a real chance to play in his natural position but I think this will benefit Lazar and Liverpool.

I hope we have a good transfer window and an even better pre season :D

12 Jun 2016 15:33:18
Av never seen him play. But we all wanted klopp to come in as manager knowing that he doesn't buy proven players then all moan when he doesn't splash heavy on players. He has a good eye for talent so am sticking by him and his buys.

12 Jun 2016 19:42:53
That deal will be hard to do as the offer we made is well below the required fee and most of all, we tapped him up and Udinese don't want to have anything to do with us anymore hence, the fee will only be higher just to screw us. It doesn't matter what Zeilinski thinks or says because his and our antics have put him and us in a weak position hence IMO, I say we don't do business with them anymore and move on.

12 Jun 2016 10:53:00
Eds you said a while ago we had scouted in Bazoer- are we interested? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - No.}

12 Jun 2016 09:55:43
Rumour seen that Ibe could be used as part of Mane deal. Deal reported at £30m value.

Forgetting correct figures, save Eds sanity.

Questions are IF this were true and it's a Ibe plus £10m - is this a good deal?

If it's any other format, as in Ibe plus £20m or more, is this a bad deal?

Regardless of combination, is this just good or bad?

I don't want Ibe to go. I do think Mane would be better then what we have up front in the wider areas, including Ibe. He has pace, he can score, he has scored against top sides, he can provide. None of Lallana, Ibe or Milner are 'better' than him at this imo.

Still, rather have Mane if that what Klopp wants but loan Ibe at worst. Rather see him stay and progress.

Believable3 Unbelievable8

12 Jun 2016 10:36:28
Player swaps are very rare and i can't see us getting rid of Ibe or Saints wanting him, can you ed?

{Ed001's Note - unlikely at best.}

12 Jun 2016 10:49:45
I think Ibes time is up, sadly.

12 Jun 2016 13:22:48
Ibe will have a great season next year.

12 Jun 2016 13:35:39
Hope Ibe stays, had a rough year but never looked like he wasn't trying just confidence. Assuming we get mane it would be good to have one senior wide player with two youngster to compete against for game time.

12 Jun 2016 13:38:03
Where though Ron?
Not sure it will be with us with reports we are after a winger and Ojo looking like he's overtaken Ibe already, I can't see the club keeping him on.

12 Jun 2016 13:49:52
It would be folly to let him leave IMO.
Young, experienced, good attitude, good injury record, low earner. All he needs is a bit of confidence and Klopp will give him that.
I don't think we need a "winger". We won't get anyone better than Ojo.

12 Jun 2016 14:16:32
Ron, that's your opinion but you don't know that. There are better wingers than Ojo for sure out there and just because you nor I don't know who they are doesn't me we can't get one. Ojo is still learning the game but to say we can't get one better than him is ridiculously wrong and baseless.

12 Jun 2016 14:25:59
Ojo isn't ready yet. If we brought in Mane and have Ojo in support that would be ideal. Having Ibe as well would just be a luxury and one of Ibe or Ojo or both won't get as much game time and will suffer for it. I would rather give that game time to Ojo as I see him as the better prospect, it would be good if Ibe could get a loan but I just have a feeling he will be sold.

12 Jun 2016 14:56:53
Redohio, Ron has his opinion it's one I happen to share. Not baseless either but based on the general consensus that Ojo is one of the top young prospects in Europe. Ed002 will back that up.

Also to consider, Would we be able to sign anyone better who would want to join us and we could afford? Would that be money well spent?

If we want Ojo to fulfill that potential then we don't want to go signing other wingers to stop his development. He might be still learning but he is good enough to play in the first team to gain that vital experience without compromising results either.

12 Jun 2016 15:27:17
@Higgings, you could also argue that if we thrust Ojo straight into the first team and put that much pressure on him to perform at the top every week, could also halt his progression, the kid is still only 18 lest we forget, he turns 19 later this month but still is allot to put on his shoulders. I guess at the end of the day it all boils down to Ojo's mind set, he could go the way of Sterling, and believe the hype surrounding him and then stop to try and progress and learn. (You only need look at how badly he performed for England last night to show how he has failed to grow in the last 2 years) . I do love Ojo, but I want us to get it right with him, whatever that means I hope Klopp can get it right, too much games can burn him out, too little can affect his confidence same as Ibe. Is very hard to know what is required of him, unless anyone knows what his mind set is, as long as he doesn't go the same way as Sterling I hope it doesn't happen to him, because this kid has the ability to really be one the best things to come from the Academy in the last 10-15 years.

12 Jun 2016 17:39:09
It is my opinion and it could well be completely wrong but it's not baseless.
It's based on 2 things. 1) No European football and poor league position 2) I think Ojo with more first team games will turn out far better than Mané or anyone else of that level.

Ojo will takeoff similarly to Sterling but will be much better.

12 Jun 2016 19:52:32
Yours or my opinions are not facts hence projecting your opinion by saying someone "will" do or achieve some is not based on any known fact hence, baseless. Secondly, Mane is a false example as he is a very good player but more experienced than Ojo hence, your comparison makes no sense. Do I want Ojo to succeed like Sterling? Of course. Are there better wingers than him out there? Absolutely. So again, no one knows anything and opinions are not facts. That's my point. As for Higgins, on what do you base your evaluation of Ojo being one of the best young wingers out there? because Ed said so? Ed02 also said Mitrovic would have been a better option than Benteke. Do you believe that too because based on what I saw of him at Newcastle, he is actually worse than Benteke, IMO. I suggest you use your eyes instead of regurgitating someone else's opinions and using them as facts.

12 Jun 2016 17:55:22
Kevlaw,

you should have listened to Slaven Bilic today, he was asked how Croatia can keep producing these top player that always seems to come out of Croatia, and it was very a interesting answer he said that when they are about 17 and have potential they go into the Croatian prem league and play a couple of seasons in this league, he said it was not as good as the prem but the playing time they get is the thing that improves them and then they get snapped up after about 3 years.

he said it happened to Modric, that's the reason all these top players from Croatia become so good, so imo i think Ojo should play if he is good enough, and i think his mindset is on getting into the 1st team other wise he wouldn't be playing.

the lad is young and fit and has loads of potential and that potential can only come out if he plays games even when sometimes he might be tired, i don't get your mind set thing, as I've said if his mind was not set on getting into the 1st team then he would not be playing football, i also think he is mature enough to handle the rigours of the prem season.

12 Jun 2016 22:15:31
Spot on, Mbrock. If Ojo is good enuff, he should play an if he pans out like Sterling did, good for him and for us. But for people to make unsubstantiated comments based only on personal opinions and not factual basis and projecting these as fact, is what I take issue with and will always do. Interesting comments from Bilic tho.

12 Jun 2016 22:45:10
How can you make factual statements which are about future events?
An opinion is not baseless if there is substance behind it, which in Ojo's case there is.

You think my opinion is baseless? Fine. I couldn't give 2 hoots because I don't need or wish to prove anything to you. But I can tell you it is based on watching hundreds of live matches at the top level and watching Ojo. That for me makes my opinion based on past experience.

12 Jun 2016 00:29:38
Just a general question for Ed001 and Ed002; are players at the Euro's and Copa still constantly trying to engineer moves during the tournaments? I assume the agents are working overtime but would they still be in contact with players and clubs trying to sort deals on the quiet as it were? You'd have to imagine the Country managers/ representatives must be fighting a losing battle to keep some players focused?
