If Honda is available on a free in the summer, it would be foolish to pass up the opportunity to sign him. Ever since the 2010 world cup I have liked him as a player and when we were linked with him a few years ago, I was over the moon, so now there is talk again of him signing, I hope we move for him; feel he could be an immense signing.
Secondly, the centre back area is a must to be strengthened! For me, Sakho would be great as he's strong, young and a French international, however De Vrij has also been mentioned and I think he would suffice if we can't get Sakho.
Would also like to see a winger come in. Have heard talk of Sanchez but feel he'd have too many better options if he were to be made available by barca. A more realistic option could be Mertens who i've always been a fan of, really great technical player who can also score goals, just what we need.

So with Honda on a free, Sakho coming for around 12-14m and Mertens the same, along with the sales of Carroll, Spearing and possibly Skrtel, I think the squad will look a lot stronger this way and help us challenge for the champions league!

E. H LFC {Ed002's Note - Honda is not for free.}

He is on a free in january 2014 so he could be bought for a small fee in the summer. or agree a pre contract in the summer for a free move in 2014

13 Mar 2013 07:34:43
honda will be free by dec.
mertens won't happen. countinho and sterling will play on the left. with downing and borini on the right.
Honda is a must as he and hendo will fight for the attacking midfielder/playmaker.
since allen will replace gerrard in the middle.

one caroll sale will bring us honda and a striker.

These are the players I'd go for in the summer and the maximum prices i'd pay for them.

Jovetic - £21 mill
Turan - £12.5m
Alonso - £10m
Ben Arfa - £15m
Sakho - £9m
Eriksen - £16.5m

Obviously few, if any are likely to happen. Jovetic and Eriksen in particular are a bit of a pipe-dream.
I also could be tempted to go in a bit more for Xabi but that's probablt just sentimentality.

13 Mar 2013 07:39:35
y do we need to pay 20+ for errikson when we can get honda for 8 mill.
some people don't have a clue about that player.
he is simple quality.
rest won't happen.

Wake up kid

None of them except maybe Ben Afra are likely to move for that money

So over £85m then? including over £10m for Xabi who is 32 this year.
Have you not realised we are in Debt have no CL football money again, which will also affect the sponsorship payments we could have had and need to fund an expensive ground refurbishment. I suspect we will sell some players to fund the majority of new signings, and will probably target more deffensive players this windows ( ths sale of Suarez will obviously affect forward options)

How the hell are they going to play in same team? Clueless, goodbye

Are eriksen, turan, jovetic, ben arfa, suarez, sturridge and downing going to play rock paper scissors to decide who starts? And are you going to pay the extra 30million on top of our budget to pay for them?
If not then this list is quite ridiculas.

Hi. I am interested to know what positions you people think Liverpool need to bring in next summer. I don't think too many drastic changes need to be made seeing as we are finally starting to adjust to BR style. Obviously we need "more players in the group" as BR says a lot so what do you think. I would like to see possibly another attacking player for Right-Wing, and a Centre-Back to replace Carragher.

If you look at our starting 11, you will find there are currently 2 positions in which we need first team quality. CAM & RW (in respect of a 4-3-3 formation which is what BR ultimately wants to play). My ideal targets would be HONDA and Mertens. I have watched both play (more so honda) and these additions would make us a top 4 first 11 certainly. However with a few departures in key positions looking more and more likely (reina, carra and skrtel) i'm sure there will be more transfers to happen. let's enjoy the rest of this season though shall we.

If its to continue the build of LFC and look at getting a top four spot then we need two strong and fast CB that are very good in the air with good technical and tactical ability. One seasoned experienced pro and the other can be a young CB with room for growth ( say 24 yr old). Then maybe a GK and CDM.

The forwards can stay as they are unless a top quality bargain is available and we have budget left. Otherwise, hold off and look at a Jan signing if needed.

SpudRed

We need a centre back. Liverpool are crying out for another leader. A young future captain in the vidic/kompany mould is what we need to replace the legendary Carra who can organise that back four.

If Reina goes then we must take care choosing a replacement. We can't build a challenging team and have a dodgy keeper ruining it for us. Remember David James? Enough said. I would like to think if Reina is planning on leaving, Brendan already knows and is looking at replacements right now. Probably the most important position on the pitch.

The rest to depend on players leaving. Although I must add when I look at Liverpools bench, sometimes it seems pointless to bring any of the subs on. IMO the biggest weakness we have is our lack of depth. No impact subs and the Oldham catastrophe proved that other than our first eleven (which is up there with the best) we have players at the club who can't step up when called upon.

We are playing some great football though I've got to say

DBol {Ed002's Note - There is no secret about the goalkeeper that Liverpool are most interested in.}

Is it the Sunderland keeper Ed02 {Ed002's Note - Mingolet, yes.}

Just watched Jordan Rossiter, at 15 years of age, completely dominate the midfield in the Youth Cup game. If he keeps his feet on the ground and continues to progress, we will have a gem there in 2 or 3 years. He never stopped running for 90 minutes, always finds space to receive a pass, is aggressive in the tackle and has vision in his passing.

Also, watching highlights of a recent u18 game, a 14 year old named Harry Wilson also looked very promising.

redmersey

13 Mar 2013 03:36:37
Still too young! I remember gary gardner (craigs bro) being on the villa reserves bench @ 14

Do not over hype players look what it has done to sterling.

I agree that Rossitor does look like he has the potential to come through the ranks and become a top player in the future, but the main word in that sentence is potential. I remember Pacheco being called a world beater when he came at16. Kristian Nemeth was another. The next step from youth to senior is massive, in terms of a young players development. Borrell will be crucial in directing the lads progression. I do like the way that we are Investing into the Academy, watching the lads playing on Lfctv, where you can see first hand the lads improving or stagnating, is very interesting. I believe Texiera, Wisdom, mclaughlin and Suso will make it. though I believe Wisdom would be more than useful if given a try out as a defensive midfielder.

12 Mar 2013 20:41:10
If our U18s and U21s keep up the impressive progress in the years to come, we won't be worrying about future transfer "budgets". We will have enough coming through for both the first team and to sell on if they're not quite good enough. I love watching them!

12 Mar 2013 21:14:14
what GK and midfield would like to
see wearing Liverpool jersey next season?

Ruairi joe

Pepe reina and steven gerrard

Reina. .

Would love Neuer but I'll take Mignolet

If reina leaves then my ideal targets would be bernd leno or ter stegen. More realistic targets are begovic, mignolet and ochoa. As for the midfield I would assume possibly shelvey and suso go out on loan, spearing be sold and we purchase honda (i also thought of gouffran) but it seems miquel iturra is more likely.

Hi Eds and fellow Reds. A great site and you do a great job. Currently living down south and am hearing a lot of gossip and rumours from various sources, about Newcastle going to offer cash and Krul for Carroll. If it is true, what are your thoughts. Keep up the good work. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea if that is the case or not.}

I don't rate that messi. I mean, what's he ever done really?

12 Mar 2013 21:16:42
". That Messi?.
so how many messi you are aware in football?

Sigh. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. But you should be able to grasp the basics of it surely.

The lowest form of wit but the highest form of intelligence.
I have to say I was expecting a few more replies in the style of monty python.
Well apart from scoring the most ever goals in a year and winning every award going, first touch, work rate, mesmeric dribbling etc etc, what's he ever done?
Maybe I'm showing my age.

He would never have got in our school team as our teacher only ever picked the biggest lads. He also hated dribblers as he called them.

Sorry Ronaldo. But messi just showed why he wins the awards!

And I still think ronnie is amazing but.

12 Mar 2013 19:15:45
Red owl mate comparing with messi is just crazy or childish, messi is through and through barca where Suarez have left many clubs to be where he is, what makes you think that he won't leave Liverpool to achieve more in his career, keep in mind suarez was very close leaving for juventus last year in fact he even went for their games and talking to some of their officials but for some reason things didn't happen and juventus couldn't push for his transfer, he signed new contract with improve wages and clause that he can speak to other clubs if suited for him.

Now I'm not saying Suarez will leave because much depends on teams who are interested and how much they want him or how much effort they put to get him!

Transfers are not as easy as people think, situation with suarez is completely different there is nothing to do with Liverpool or Suarez it all depends on teams that how much effort they put to get him or how futher they are ready to push for his transfer!

Suarez did not have the luxury of playing for Barcelona from his youth. Messing has no need to move because no other club would be an improvement. But Suarez has had to move clubs to advance his career.

Eds, is it true that we have agreed a deal to sign Manuel Iturra from Malaga? How good is he? {Ed019's Note - He's a DM that's all I know. Would probably be back up to Lucas if he joins}

12 Mar 2013 19:04:15
The 1 thing that we miss is martin kelly. if he would be fit I would put him on rb position replacing johnson. he is far better in defending than johnson nd he can also make those fancy forward runs. I also think we should sign eriksen as replacement for stevie. in my opinion we can count on Joe allen in the midfield along with eriksen for many seasons to come as both are good quality. but I doubt if we can lure eriksen in. Lucas btw is the best cdm in europe in my opinion. he's simply awesome. i'm glad we r not playin tiki taka because its still predictable. overalll we r progressing. we need to improve the defence. I still think we have a very gud chance for 4th this. Seasone.

You want to drop a player with the most assists this season

We are playing Tiki Taka Football. Kelly is good but not better than Johnson and far far worse going forward. Erikson is unattainable. Right now Allen is very rightly a back up choice for our midfield

Johnson doesn't make fancy! forward runs. He makes effective forward runs.
The best in the league from right back.

Last year I would have agreeed with you. But Johnson is starting to justify his place in the team. He has come on leaps and bounds under Rodgers.

MIKEY

Just saw that we're close to signing Manuel iturra of Malaga? Any truth in that? Haven't really heard much of him any info on the guy?

12 Mar 2013 18:17:44
Ed, any truth that we have agreed a deal with Manuel Iturra to sign him on a free in the summer as he is out of contract with Malaga, or is it just speculation? {Ed019's Note - Spec I would think}

12 Mar 2013 18:06:33
Hi Ed,

Read an article online today that Liverpool have all but agreed terms with iturra from Malaga. Have you heard if this is true or not? I think he is out of contract in the summer so m assuming it will be on a precontract agreement?

Thanks in advance

Hi Eds and Reds,

Just picked up a bit of info from Talkrubbish, does it have any legs?

a web site: Liverpool 'agree deal to sign Malaga star'

Liverpool look to have clinched a deal to sign Malaga playmaker Manuel Iturra, according to reports.

Iturra, 28, has been earning rave reviews in both La Liga and the Champions League this season and has been strongly linked with a summer move to Anfield.

Make of this what you will.

Cheers {Ed019's Note - Nothing to suggest that he will join or is of interest to Liverpool - yet}

Every player has his price and no player will ever be bigger nor better that the club.

Our team needs better players, players who can be consistent and mount a real challenge.

There is no room for sentiment in football, ultimately a player is a commodity for the club.

Ergo - it's time FSG cashed in on one of their prized investments.

LUIS SUAREZ. his sale could fund the purchase of a number of decent quality players.

At present he is one of the top 10 players currently in Europe and he is being coveted by a number of top European sides.

He is also having a decent season, scoring a number of goals and making assists.

He is coming to the peak of his career. it is the best time to sell him.

He can be replaced, we have sold top players before and it will happen again in the future.

Sell him now for the greater good, utilise the money elsewhere on new players and where investment is needed within the Club.

He has a buyout clause between 35 to 45 million. However, if another team were to bid upwards of 50m, it's an offer that should be accepted.

M {Ed019's Note - No}

Love the response!

A rogue manc, me thinks

It would cost more than 35 million pounds to replace 30+ goals in our team

Im sire the owners know that it would cost more to sell him in the long run

Unless CL isn't important to them but I thoughts that's what they want the most?

Wont get there without suarez unless they replace him with falcao or lewandowski etc

Or we could keep him for another season at least and watch his value rise.

I think M has cracked his head. He (or she) complains when we win, whinges when we play well, and wants to sell our best players. Either that or he's on drugs.

No. On so many levels.

1) we achieve anything by selling our best players. Most especially selling THE best player in the league.

2) He's not in his prime yet, probably 2 or 3 years from his prime. Scary, huh?

3) Up your meds and go check back in to your ward, the white costs are probably looking for you by now.

Hi eds.
What's the deal with Ashley young? He's hardly played this season for utd! Any chance if a move?

Are you on the right website? That's angry trouser territory.

12 Mar 2013 19:28:36

12 Mar 2013 16:29:56
Great news that martin Kelly is nearing a return to fitness. I belive this lad is destined to become a top quality centre half. In my eyes he has all the right attributes to succeed. With rumours of up 3 of our centre halfs leaving in the summer, next season could be a massive year for Kelly, if he can stay fit.

If Kelly can get over his injury problems, he will be the best young defender by a country mile.

Kelly lacks grit and strength for CB position

As I have said on numerous times Kelly will succeed Carra and partner Agger next season, I believe that Kelly will one day be future Captain of our great club.

Kelly has more grit and heart than skrtel I can guarentee u that

12 Mar 2013 19:30:23
Couldn't agree more BigD - he is very young and already a good defender, I think he will be an excellent CB for us for many, many years

Super

Thats it if Kelly captains LFC then BR's plan to scupper LFC will have been implemented

Kelly does not have enough first team experience to be our number 1/2 cb next year.

Disagree Kumber - he's been in the squad for about 4 years now, high time he gets a run of games

12 Mar 2013 16:27:42
With the England qualifiers coming up I really wish Gerrard would hang up his boots at international level and concentrate only on Liverpool to both avoid injuries and have a breather to keep himself fresh.

Liverpool will always be much bigger than England. Don't know why he bothers really.

Yeah I don't know why anybody would bother captaining England.

B101

How about the fact that he just might want to achieve the record outfield number of caps?

I'm sure you would carry on if you were in the same situation.

redmersey

I think he's just a true fan of football, I think anyone would give their right arm to play, never mind captain your country national side. Personally I would give a bollock too.

FowlerGod.

12 Mar 2013 19:13:39
He is still going strong and not like to get dropped from 1st team seeing as he is a) complete class and b) the captain.

He will keep going until he reaches the record number of appearances and until he is not going to be an automatic starter - and by extension until there is a player able to take over from him (Wilshere but in a couple years and not consistently injured).

He has had the chance to captain England properly, and not just be vice- captain. He wants the role, and if that goes, then so will he in my opinion.

What's so great about being England captain? It not like you get to lift up a load of trophies. It's probalby a good position for someone who likes playing heads or tails.

He really shouldn't retire from England - he deserves to captain them to a world cup and he now will. That being said, if Hodgson could use his head and maybe play other people like Henderson against San Marino, it would be appreciated

12 Mar 2013 16:25:57

I think we should move for Ciaran Clark, Arda Turan and Luke Shaw in the summer!
Gibbzee

I'm Irish and as much as I would love an Irish player in the Liverpool side, Ciaran Clark is nowhere near good enough.

Long isn't good enough either, nor McGeady and we could do a lot better and Cheaper than MCarthy.

Read a really interesting piece on our "pyramid system" for the youth teams earlier.

Apparently, in the reserves league, we have used the least amount of players so far this season due to a "blockage" in the system.

Now as I read on, and thought about this ( having watched a lot of youth teams games ) it is clear we do have a worringly low amount of players from u15 upto reserves level.

Someone mentioned on here earlier about players being too young to move up. This is due to this blockage.
BR has identified this, hence the step up of 4-5 players to 1st team, and a rise of loans for fringe players, this needed to be done to free up the "blockage".

The key is not spotting 18-20 year olds that jump straight in at u21/reserve level, its 14-15 year olds and move them through the system. Trust me, in 4-5 years time, maybe BR will not be here but we could look back at this season and be thankful for releasing aged players, and replacing them with players ready to take the step up, freeing up the blockage.

Youth with experience is the key to progression, keeping hold of quality/world class players to basically improve standards of play & attitude within the whole club.

Look at the real reason carra quit England, he knew he would`nt play, as he spotted early there was a preffered "experienced" choice, has he made the same decision for the club? does he see progression in youth and confident enough to step aside? I would like to think he has, helping free up the blockage in the process.

There is no doubt we have one of the best youth setups in world football, but it was starting to go backwards.

Rewards will come in 2-3 seasons, with the academy being the main focus to build further.

Piddy.

12 Mar 2013 14:59:30
With Wilshere injured I really can't see them finishing strongly. Main competition is definitely Chelsea and Tottenham.

With Chelseas fixture pile up and Agent Rafa in charge I can only see them sliding further down the league.

I hope we win on Sunday. That's all we should look at

I hope we win on Saturday, don't care what happens on Sunday.

I hope we win on Saturday to be honest! Don't care what happens Sunday because we ain't playin!

Isnt it also important how the other teams do. Even if we win all our remaining matches, other teams still need to slip up. So not caring about what happens in other games is pretty counter-productive?

David

Wilshere is only missing one league match (international break)

12 Mar 2013 14:28:59
Great result against spurs, more of the same against Southampton, expect for the dodgy defending. This is a great chance for the team to carry on building momentum. Hope reina returns as I never feel confident when Jones is an not goal. good luck to the young lads in the youth cup tonight.

12 Mar 2013 14:20:42
Joe Allen out for 3 months having surgery on shoulder. Been carrying this injury for some time and co-incides with his dip in form. Speedy recovery Joe.

Will give the likes of Hendo and Shelvey a chance to come in and get some game time

Jordan deserves a chance. Something about Jonjo, don't think he will progress enough to claim a start.

12 Mar 2013 18:30:30
i think suso deserves his chance now, he, s doing great for u 21s, and is a far better prospect than hendo or shelvey

Hendo has had plenty game time recently and has really impressed me, hope he continues in this manner, Shelvey I am not convinved by, still a few questions for the lad but he doesn't seem to have a great attitude, apparently got the hump because he has'nt been playing,

12 Mar 2013 14:00:25
For fans who are crying for Torres, ask yourself do we really need him when we have got Suarez, sturridge and Borini.

We need to fix our problems in different posotion and that is defence, right wing and if money is there then one midfield who can create and run from middle which will add extra option and worry for opposition.

12 Mar 2013 14:12:13
borini will not score 20 goals nor torres.
we need a striker. simple. and a playmaker. before we go to defence.

To second poster We have scored like the 2nd highest amount of goals in the league, I don't think attack is a priority atm

12 Mar 2013 14:42:57
to the third poster. that's simply because suarez. in form of his life. but we still need a striker. who can come may be to change the formation. and score.

Not only do we have the second best attack in the league by results (and despite two of our 4 best attacking players only arriving in January), we are going to be losing at least one major defender (Carragher) that will need replacing no doubt. Why do we need another striker when we already have 2 main ones, one first choice reserve and quite a few waiting in the wings (Yesil, Ngoo etc). Why do we need another playmaker when we have Gerrard, Courtinho, Suarez when he isn't played up front, Henderson, Suso and Shelvey all very able to do that role and the young ones getting better all the time?

Borini has to go in the summer, the lad is just not good enough.

And could Fabio take Ginger with him

Borini is good enough. Definately. His movement, pace and determination are all very impressive. The way he plays, he is going to get injured. If he can mature and play more 'smartly' (which he will under BR), he will start converting.

a Liverpool team full of attacking flair with nothing to lose? mmm. the next nine games could be very interesting, very interesting indeed?

Hopefully the majority will be enjoyable to watch at least

12 Mar 2013 12:52:26
I thought I'd point out that our team is currently tied in 2nd for the most goals scored in the Premier League, with 56 and 9 matches still to go.

Considering last season, how can anyone say we have not gone forward and progressed this season? Although we're more inconsistant this year, we're starting to win with style and actually have an identity now.

Not that I believe in the rebuttle, but I imagine they would argue that our attack may be better but our defense has become as watertight as a sieve, so we've just swapped one problem for another

Plus their is a whole lot of difference playing well and winning when the pressure is off. I remember a similar run of form at the end of the season when kenny was first appointed, but it never followed onto the next season, like I said the pressure is off so we're playing with freedom.

We've conceded the same number of goals as Spurs in 3rd and scored more. Why are we playing with freedom now and not before? The pressure to get points and climb the table is exactly the same. Our problem is the number of games we have conceded twice in. Usually at least one goal has been a mistake and every time it costs us 2 or 3 points. Without mistakes we beat City twice, Arsenal away, Sunderland away and without even thinking about it that's 8 points. How many times have we been played off the park? Not many. Stoke, first half at OT, periods against Spurs on Sunday and not many others. Other club fans I talk to think Liverpool are becoming a good team again and they weren't saying that for past 3/4 years.

Question for Ed002, inspired by a similar question ealier.

In the unlikely Event that Chelsea/Tottenham win the Europa league and finish outside the top 5 or Newcastle win it, Who would lose their Europa league spot to accomodate the Champions of the competition?

The FA cup place.
The Capital One cup place.
5 th place.
Or would England simply have 4 entries for that year in the Europa league?

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed002's Note - In such cases, for teh Europa League only, and additional place is assigned.}

12 Mar 2013 13:12:26
Thank you for the reply Ed002. that's good to know, I was just curious due to the way Tottenham lost their Champions league place last year.

I feel a late surge for the top 4 might fall just short, but 5th is there for the taking!

Good question Adam mate!

Hey I'm jus wondering with suarez having a great season do u think the owners will be strong enough to say to teams looking to buy him listen were LIVERPOOL go away or will they jus look at dollar signs/sterling I for one hope we build on the back bone of our team and his is vital can any1 tell me how the young lad carr got on nice 1 JON96

I think the most important transfer dealings for us this summer is keeping Suarez, it won't be easy particularly with the likelihoods of any European football diminishing.

Car had good movement and held up play well but I don't think he's up to standard he clearly isn't fit em ought either. Don't think he will sign tbh.

Carr was largely ineffective. But non-league football is quite a lot behind the U21's reserve league in terms of quality, and the step up was a real shock to him. He played a small part in the first goal, bursting into the area and pinning them back, before losing the ball, only for it to fall to Sterling who rifled it into the top corner. Carr looked fairly composed, but certianly not the finished article. I failed to see what he offered, that Sinclair, Yesil, Morgan or Ngoo don't. Worth signing him up if you ask me, as in 3 years time, if he doesn't make the grade, we could sell him for a nominal fee, and make back all that we lost. A gamble without any risk. why not?

I'm afraid every player has his price, question is teams who want suarez will they pay the prize to force our owners and club to sell him, it won't be cheap and very few teams could afford his prize to force owners and club to sell him.

There is nothing to do with suarez wanting to go or not, it up to teams to tempt us selling with big offer$!

Because there is no such thing as a risk without a gamble. The risks here are 1) Giving him a chance when they don't think he has it in him takes the chance away from someone who might 2) he's a person, we don't want him wasting away his time and life spending 3 years with a team who probably won't ever play him beyond a junior level.

Those who clamber on the hackneyed claim that all players have their price, and that an individual player's opinions are irrelevant, would do well to remember that Lionel Messi remains a Barca player despite an absolutely enormous offer having been made for him. Like Messi, Luis Suarez is not for sale and has no intention of leaving.

Red Owl {Ed002's Note - Messi was available because his termination clause was met. It was the player who turned down the move so that is a very different situation.}

But in the same situation as Messi not every player has his price. Luis can be the same and not accepting to leave at any price. {Ed002's Note - That might just be a little naive given his history of forcing moves when he wants, his courting of another club last summer and the insertion of a clause in his contract that allows him to talk with other clubs if an offer of a particular amount is made. Whilst he may indeed not wish to move, he has certainly kept his options open. As you are aware, other clubs do have an interest in him.}

Thank you for your clarification ed 002. Hopefully the point that an individual player has a part to play still holds though.

Red Owl

Clauses in players contracts are the norm rather than the exception nowdays, wouldn't you say? And not just applicable to luis Suarez as is implied.

Owners may go for dollars but we already have sterling

All these people saying Agger, Skrtel and Coates will or should go. The defence is the Bedrock of ANY team. Upset all that, understanding and communication wise and we will have problems. People have combined Reina into that. And whilst some may have questions to answer. Are we Seriously saying change most of back line bar full backs?!-Crazy!

Yes that's all very well but they seem to have any understanding!

Skrtel and coates are definitely off, carra is retiring, and agger is apparently top of barca's wish list. so it could be possible that all of them leave.

This the same Barcelona wish list that Barcelona posted on their website signed by their president and then Tito Villanova read out of his hospital bed? Or the one that Carlos Puyol took out of their training ground? Or did Messi tell the press 'we want Daniel Agger! No, this 'wish list' was made up by reporters who have no information whatsoever and contains no fact beyond 'who might fit their style - that guy? let's write it'.

As for Skrtel and Coates 'definitely leaving' - it looks likely but as far as anyone outside the top of the Liverpool heiracy are away, neither have requested transfers and neither have been put up for sale. They have not had bids accepted and no-one is talking about cancelling their contracts. So they are not definitely leaving, their situation is again unknown - especially Skrtel. Would it surprise us? No. Is it certain? Definitely not.

Has to be said, Agger is a class act, in the summer Mani City made big money moves for him and he goes and gets YNWA tatooed on his knuckles and tells them to sod off.

Ed's, With our chances of attracting a top quality proven striker in the summer low i. e no champions league football. Would'nt it be wise to bring back a cut price exit bound Fernando Torres? He would jump at the chance i'm sure. Some say his legs are gone but i'm really not convinced because watching him he still has pace, its just his confidence that's shot, that's all. To me its a win win situation and we would have 3 strikers at the club. Suarez, Sturridge and Torres!
Thanks Brad {Ed002's Note - Torres? Try the search function.}

12 Mar 2013 12:24:59
I agree with you
Bring Owen back too and sell Suarez
Torres and Owen will set Anfield on fire

2011

I'd rather have Justin Bieber upfront than Fernando Torres

12 Mar 2013 13:52:16
Torres won't return, we are not in a position to gamble on a player who has shown signs of past his best neither have luxuary to pay his wages!

Our transfer from now is to sell then buy which makes very difficult for us to gamble on players who are past their best or finished, don't have enough money to waste or compete with teams who have luxuary to gamble on torres or buy players who are shadow of them self, we have to be very carefull with limited money to spend!

Ask yourself if torres wouldn`t have played for Liverpool would you want him considering his form for chelsea!

So would I. Against Stoke. With Shawcross at his finest

There's too much bad blood to bring Torres back plus his wages and transfer fee is not compatible with the the FSG policy. I can understand some fans wanting him back - the only chance he has of recapturing his best form is at LFC with Stevie G and Luis Suarez providing him the ammunition to fire in the goals and prior to his departure everyone wanted to see him and Suarez as a pairing (including LS himself).
Now we have Sturridge it's time to move on, in any case I would rather bid £20 mil for Lukaku than £15 mil for Torres though I'm pretty certain neither player will be at Anfield next season.

Torres is doing a better job for us by playing for Chelski

12 Mar 2013 11:29:56
Just want to credit Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez because as things stand at this minute they both lead the goal/assists tables in the Premier league. Awesome players. Also I think Enrique should be credited, we look a stronger team when he's playing.

Next season has to be the one. We can't keep saying it. DBol

You can and you will, kepp saying it ;)

That moment when Stewart Downing has more goals and assists than Ashley Young, Nani and Valencia combined. Golden!

JFT 96

Haha, as a United fan I'll admit that is funny considering the stick Downing got last year (from his own fans as well as fans of other clubs)! He seems a bit more confident these days which has made some difference.

Hes playing like one of the best wingers in england again, hence why we paid 16m for aston villas player of the season.

Still not worth £16m but at least he's justified the fact that he plays for us at all

This is not lfc related but lfc have been keeping a close eye on 17 year old attacker Jordan Forrester from coventry city is said to be moving to Accrington Stanley on emergency loan as they are short up front and jordan is a highly rated young player,
Rumour Guy

Did Ian Rush tell him he was good enough to play for Accrington Stanley?

Milk.

How is it not LFC related if we are watching him? that to me is LFC related

How is lfc not keeping an eye on a player not lfc related?

12 Mar 2013 10:40:07
Stevies correct-No point lording Spurs win, if don't take at least that EFFORT into remaining games. And That "Its up to players now, as they got in this position". Southampton can be good side with good players on their day. And they'll fight hard with passionate crowd given position their in. Must start well with high Tempo and try and finish them off early confidence wise. Never an easy place to go in past.

12 Mar 2013 09:54:25
We've been linked with so many players, it's hard to know who's a genuine target who's just tabloid gossip. but I'd. Love to see sakho, vrij, eriksen and the return of xabi.

Eriksen won't happen in afraid!

If Spurs supposedly have a chance but don't get into the CL, then we must do. Although personally I don't believe either of us have a chance but still

12 Mar 2013 09:50:36
hope our supposed interest in Jeremy menez is true. think he's a very good player with the potential to be exceptional. rumours of him being available for a low fee, make it a no brainer in my opinion.

12 Mar 2013 11:26:13
yes. I have watched him play. he is a pretty decent good player can play in any front 3 department and will cost very less.
Borini is due back for next season. I stille xpect us to sign another striker and probbaly on germio or menez.
both will be available and will be for a decent price.

Also BR. Spurs game showed we need a playmaker since countinho is played on the wings.

HONDA. 8 mill. will play front of gerrard and lucas. would be dream. with countinho and suarez on the wings.

Skills and goals unlimited.

How likely is it that we may lose agger, skrtel, coates and carra in the summer, meaning we may need at least 3 new centre halfs.

What makes you think Agger is going anywhere? If he was going to move at all, he'd have left last summer

12 Mar 2013 11:29:31
Agger won't leave!
He loves lfc

Dear Eds,

I know 99% of people would think I am crazy. But I really wish Torres to come back. Any chance and how much would it cost?

Angusbeef

On current form he'd probably cost £2, but suarez Gerrard and coutinho would bring the best out of him again. I belive he'll head back to Spain in the summer, maybe to athletico.

He could come back, but he will never come back to form

It's sad to see the vast decline this in a former anfield favourite, since he left for Chelsea. although I believe Brendan Could get torres firing again, its just never going to happen.

Id say about 15mil for Torres on current form. with his chances in the first 11 limited and the almost guarenteed arrival of a striker in the summer I think he will be moved on. however I think it would be 0. 5% chance he will return.

I'm glad his career has gone tits up. He dropped our club and our fans for Chelsea's money.

I agree. We desperately need a striker that lost all his ability many seasons ago and now couldn't hit a barn door, especialy if we can pay him upwards of £100 thousand a week which would be great at stopping us buying a good player. Why not also bring back Alan Hanson and Graeme Souness? I expect they're also pretty useless now and would also demand a huge fee?

MR EM

I can guarantee Fernando will be leaving in the summer for around £15million mark and he will be going back to Spain. Maybe back to Athletico if Falcao leaves but all I do know is that Falcao will not be going to Man city. That is a fact.

FowlerGod.

Swap torres for carroll lol

Hey eds and reds. Just wonderin your opinions on gerrard and captaincy. Will gerrard keep going on as captain for years to come, as he's quite capable of. ? Is there someone at the club ready to take over in the next year or two, for example agger or lucas. or would you expect it will be more a long term thing with either our own development of a player or bring in a young leader. I no its all guess work but i'm just interested in your opinions. Cheers

Smurf {Ed001's Note - I don't see anyone to take over from Gerrard personally. The only player who is vocal enough is Carragher, and he is retiring, so I would stick with Gerrard for now and look to buy someone to take the captaincy in the future.}

Suarez if he stays long enough.

12 Mar 2013 09:45:19
Gerrard should be captain until he retires in say 2 to 3years at a guess, which gives these young players plenty of time to mature and see who steps up.

Agger, Suarez or Lucas next vice captain. They deserve it and Dagger and Suarez can be the vocals we need when playing. Especially dagger.

FowlerGod.

12 Mar 2013 12:19:48
Agger for me after Gerrard retires

2011

12 Mar 2013 10:00:52
Sry ed1 don't agree with you, Gerrard days are gone and shouldn't start in our first xi, Allen should get captaincy and lead our team, he knows the systeam better then anyone and knows Rodgers better then anyone, his perfect to replace Gerrard who in my opinion is not half a player Allen is.

In Rodgers and Allen we trust {Ed001's Note - brilliant, have you considered a career in comedy?}

What's even more worrying than that post is that someone has actually agreed with it.

My daughter rang last night and said my grandson Jamie had a question for me and won't go to bed till he asks me, she put him on.
He said grandad "How many sleeps till we play again?" I said "It's just 4 sleeps now, won't be long, are you all excited?" Yeah! he said and put the phone down.
Really made me happy, he's growing up a proper red:-)

As a proper red you should tell him we're playing tonight against Hull in the FA Youth Cup Quarter Final ;)

12 Mar 2013 09:53:14
lets hope he gets the win kid. But if we don't the trolls will be out on this page, it will be atough game these teams r fighting for their premier league status, I hope behind the scene at Liverpool they haven't giving up on getting as high up the table as possible, big jan molby said last night on lfc tv win 8 out of r last 9 should get top 4 c"mon the reds.

Congrats mate you must be so proud of him, Let him learn what this club stands for both on and off the field.

Enjoy your ime with him 'grandad' :)

Thats a lovely story! How it got 9 disagrees is beyond me! We have to encourage the next generation!

My youngster won't even go to a mates birthday party as the invites are Man U invites. Got to Love them!

I know it's highly unlikely, but if newcastle were to win the europa league, would 5th place still make it into the competition next season. {Ed002's Note - Yes.}

More to the point. If Spurs win it and finish top 4, would 6th place qualify? {Ed002's Note - No. Sixth place is allocated to the FA Cup place.}

What about the fair play league situation. If England come out on top and Arsenal qualify already do we get that place?

GuvTOB {Ed002's Note - It is not as easy as that. Firstly England need to get one of the allocated places - and that does not look likel. Then Liverpool would need to get above the other sides who are higher placed until they are at the top or only have teams above them who have already qualified for Europe.}

12 Mar 2013 00:07:50
Hey Eds just wondering, It looks like we will be signing 3 CB in the Summer with Carra retiring and Skyrtl and Coates looking likely to leave, any idea in which CBs we will go after ( I was thinking of Diakate from Lazio because he is on a free transfer) Thanks for the reply in advance and keep up the great work.
Cheers, Zincho {Ed002's Note - Done to death - read the posts please.}

Also between Kelly and Wisdom, we have at least one CB replacing one of those three

ok now I am really curious I had to put on my inquisitive pants and login. Ed002 Why my question about the record spending (the one with trickle effect) was deleted. I did see your response and I followed it by explaining what I meant and another question, but now its all gone?! I did see someone have obviously posted some stupid comment (based on your reply) Is my question causing any controversy, I really think its an innocent question that anyone that loves football will be curious to know? {Ed002's Note - I would guess someone took offence to one of the subsequent replies and deleted it.}
