Anyone else seriously hoping Kelly is fit for Saturday? I'm extremely worried about Carra or Skrtel playing against Bale, they'd both really struggle. Despite his inexperience Flannagan may be the next best option after Kelly, now Johnson is out.

I think Enrique can contain Lennon with a little help from Downing and hope we go for experience with Kuyt on the right and perhaps Bellamy up top to stretch there defence.

Papa G

All the game's Bale has played this season have been on the right flank! even in the 2 international's! Alphared

I beleive enrique will keep up with lennon! hes quick and built!
billynwa

I knew he did for Wales Alpha but hadn't seen him at Spurs. If he plays on the right it benefits us as Enrique and Agger will contain him. I'm optimistic about a result Spurs will be shaky at the back without Dawson.

Papa G

If johnson and kelly are both out though Arry might play him on the lft

Not at all Neville had him in his pocket last season. Your not telling me Phil Neville is faster than skertle or Carra

OVER THE SEASON WE R GOING TO GET GAMES LIKE THE STOKE ONE, LIVERPOOL HAVE TO LEARN TO BE ABLE TO WIN THE SAME AS GARY NEVILLES FACE, UGLY

post in teams please.

-----------reina-------------
-kelly-carra-agger-enrique-
-------lucas-adam----------
downing-suarez-bellamy
----------carroll----------

subs.

gerrard, coates, skrtel, kuyt, henderson, maxi, doni.

a very strong bench to call upon.
bellamy and downing could happily swap channels and
enrique and bellamy looked just as effective together as enrique and downing have.
if it wasn't tottenham, i would be happy to see
coates giving a chance at centre back.

s.p

Carra should be on the bench,to old to slow

I just want to see what everyone else thinks about Andy Carroll's fit in the side. Individually he can be a magnificent striker, when fit, and almost unplayable. But, with the type of football than kenny is playing, pass and move, runners from midfield, it will work best with strikers who have fantastic movement and pace. I'm not sure Carroll is that forward. If we have to play a fast ball to feet, which is being successful, I think it needs a different striker. Why have a £35m asset sat on the bench? My gut feeling is that he will leave the club when the right sort of fast striker becomes available. Thoughts anyone?
Pieboy1812

What difference does it make how much he cost? He's a different type of player. A different option. Just be glad we have him

He gives us OPTIONS so we're not a predictable, one-dimensional team

The difference how much he cost is how much were gonna lose on him! and what are the option's he give's us?

Do you really need the option spelled out? Who's going to win the high balls up front with Bellamy and Suarez playing? How often do you see the other strikers shoot from outside the box? Who is our main threat from corners and free kicks (note how poor a threat weve been from set pieces in past years). Andy Carroll is young, solid, lethal in the air, can hold the ball up, has a sweet shot and will only get better. If he gets the backing and confidence of so-called 'supporters' like Pieboy, we will see the best of him. Doesn't matter whether he cost 35m or 35p....he's Liverpool. Support your team.

cozinoz

How much we are going to lose on him? If and when we do, Again what difference does it make?

The money is spent didnt effect the purchase of anyone else and at the end of the day if we sold him tomorrow for £1 what difference would it make to you me or anyone else?

I know this isn't really a Liverpool banter thing but just watched QPR v Newcastle. Click "agree" if you are also really hacked off with Gary Neville saying "y'know" while commentating. He says it about a million times a sentence

Tbh I'm pissed of he's there! Smithy

What muppet chose him to be a Sky Sports pundit! Oh yes, it's run by Rupert Murdoch...

To be fair he does talk sense on the match analysis , and it seems he will give us a reasonable fair minded jugdement, and look at it this way in the next few years he will have to watch us win the prem and say well done liverpool, ..........lfc {Ed001's Note - I am sorry but no self respecting Liverpool fan should be subscribing to Sky. It is clear that Murdoch knew the lies being spread by his S*n paper after Hillsborough and that his employees are clearly encouraged to lie about anything and everything, regardless of who gets hurt in the process. If you continue to subscribe knowing this, then having to put up with Neville is the least you deserve for your lack of morals.}

Fair point ed001 , i see what you mean, cheers......lfc {Ed001's Note - sorry to be so blunt, but it sickens me.}

Well said Ed01. I for one have never subscribed and never will! But it does mean listening to the game on the radio sometimes.....those were the days!

Torres back to Liverpool on Loan in January with a view to buy for 30m. Agent trying to get a move back to Spain but no one wants him right now... KD and DC think we are lacking a natural finisher, which was evident for all to see vs Stoke the other day...

Also a right winger will sign in January, not Hazard, but it remains a possibility for next summer.

Ha Ha! You just made that up!

12 Sep 2011 22:01:11
Baring in mind our league position and the fact our star player (admittedly shouldn't of been)was leaving. Can any of the Carroll bashers please explain who they would of signed in the 12 hours the club had to replace Torres?

While your at it can u please explain why people are comparing Henderson to Gerrard? Has had 4 games to settle in give him a chance! Let's not forget he turned United down to join us. And comparing him to 1 of the greatest midfielders who's ever played football after 4 games at his age is just wrong. Again if you know so much more about footy than KK and SAF, who would u sign?

Huyton Red

United did not try and sign Henderson this Summer, get your facts right... and as for who I would have signed before Carroll then apparently Llorente was a target

I'll answer your Carroll question. The answer is nobody. We shouldn't have signed anyone. Our season was all but dead and Carroll (as is always being pointed out by the pro-Carroll posters) was injured and even now, lacking match fitness. We should have kept the money and spent it after careful consideration and research, not after a knee-jerk reaction. That is what I think should have happened. Eds, your opinion?

Ash

Good post huyton red , have you heard anymore on the new ground, cheers ......lfc

If we were to sign anyone I think Llorente was being targeted and he is a quality striker.

maka

Liverpool didn't need to rush in and buy Carroll in January, hindsight has proven that Kenny got that one wrong, simply because Carroll offered nothing from January to May last season so he might as well not have even been at the club. Liverpool should have sat on that money and bought someone much better in the summer. I guess it was a last ditch effort to try and get 4th spot, but IMO it was careless by Kenny and instead of buying (3rd or 4th choice) Carroll, he should have sat on the money and spent it more wisely in the summer. He may turn out to be a decent signing when we look back in five years time, but the fact remains that he was a very expensive panic buy and the money could have bought a better player.

Sydney!

Man u did bid for henderson and has a 12m pound rejected so u get ur facts right
to the replier

Llorente? A 27 year old striker who has only ever played for 2 club in Spain. Over the last 4 season averaging a mighty 14 goals a season who would be 31 at the end of a 4 year contract with no resale value. Pretty similar to a ex Liverpool striker Fernando Mourientes (excuse the spelling)

Also even if he was a target doesn't mean he would of come.

As for signing noone. Not only would that leave us with the same problem we had with Torres - no support or competition for Saurez its also worth noting the loss of Torres would of destroyed moral if noone was signed.

Also while the owners were trying to build up respect from the fans and stop the club looking as foolish as arsenal have this summer selling the prize asset and bringing noone in would of been a PR dissaster for both the owners and the club.

You say they wasted the money but what difference did it make? Not like Kenny was told at any point "you can't sign player x because we spent £35m on Carroll". Let the owners worry about the money ayy.

No news on ground yet sorry just waiting to see if any parties increase their offers. Expect to know more in a few weeks.

Huyton red

Oh and united did want Henderson.

Signing for United was never an option for Henderson. United kept a watching brief on the player, but never acted on it. I imagine SAF doesn't regret that either.

Agree with ash n sydney. We should have saved the torres money for the summer. Could have bought a better striker like llorente. last season was anyway gonna be a failure.

I think Torres with Suarez up front with Gerrard supplying the bullets would be awesome. I know he's let himself down but it would be a chance for him to redeem himself. £20m should do the trick.

Carra, the odd mistake in 500 games is ok in my book - you are a legend and will be for a few years yet.

Sir Derek

12 Sep 2011 21:46:40
Michael Dawson out for two months. Will be a big loss for them. Surely Luis and Andy will fancy it against Bassong.

Might reds

Doubt Bassong will start. Kaboul and King more likely.

Kieran

King's playing career over the last 3 years must be about 30% V Liverpool

Just watching the stoke game on lfctv and i think andy carroll did well when he came on and people need to give him a chance.
J matt

Last time i looked andy carroll played in a red shirt with a liverbird on his chest,ok he may be slower than my bowels but he's our player, lets support the lad and give him a break,if any players read these posts im surprised any of them will want to play for us,jimmybosun,

Hey ed has glen got injured again or he was not match fit at all.
Because he was not moving comfertabely at all against stoke.

Red indian {Ed001's Note - I believe he picked up a knock, but it is impossible to be sure with Kenny in charge, he likes to keep people guessing. I notice the official site has stopped doing their injury round up as well now, they used to be very good at keeping the fans informed.}

Glen seems to be perm injured for the last 2 seasons.... Also looking a bit chunky...

He said on his Twitter page, he'd done his hammy again, so make of that what you will!

It sounds by the comments tonight that KK as got it right again by offloading Meireles. I would never take Torres back all he as done is slagged the club off since he as gone. Was a good finisher when at Liverpool but we have moved on from him now. I also believe Torres will never reach his form when he was at his peak at Liverpool.

Mighty Reds.

Yes Meireles had skill and wasn't english. Glad we got rid of him, didn't suit our team at all.

So in short, the ref. gives a dodgy penalty against Carra, refuses to give us 3 (2 stone wall) , we have 70% of possession and should have had 3 or 4 goals which unfortunately we don't convert but what loads of people on here think is that Carra is to blame and he's finished.....muppets.
Fitzy

Yes, he has been carp his whole career and if he was a foreigner would be cr@pped on by everyone week after week...

For all those who say that Coates is a better player than Phil Jones, have a look at the game on Saturday. Jones was absolutely fabulous and is a future captain of Manchester United. Klown Kenny wanted Jones, but he turned you down to go to United (just like Young). You ain't a big club, you are a small club languishing in midtable. Get that into you're heads.

G.A.G.U.S

Thanks for that gagus, that's told us.
Redeyedhector

Jones still lives at home with his parents... Do you?

If we're such a 'small club', why did it take you 20 years to overtake our record, and how is it that we have won more 2 European cups than the 'big club' you support? We are not and will never be a small club. Get that into your thick head.
Youngred

Now I'm not doubting that Jones is a class player I believe Seb Coates will be just as good. He's a class act too.

He's been that good at centreback that fergie moved him to right back? what's your break down on that angle......just saying.

Haha you have not even seen Coates yet. Smithy

Weren't Leeds a big club one time? Well, they're not anymore. When you talk about the elite clubs in the world, you mention Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United. Liverpool aren't in that bracket anymore. The only reason you think you are is because it's all about history with you lot. The 80's were thirty years ago.

If anyone thinks Kenny would re-sign Torres, you want yr head looking at.
I have never once seen or heard Kenny have a go at a Liverpool player to the press. Never.
But think back to his press conference the day after Torres left. Kenny's manner, body language spoke a thousand words. I think he said he was a "wee bit disappointed" with Torres.
Which translates as "Torres you're a ****" !
He won't wear the Liver Bird again. End of.

Some fans are pathetic mate with no pride. Guess they still have their Torres replica shirts and want to make use of them.

I personally think with how many new players since January and the amount of time most of these have had to gel, our team are looking very strong .
As soon as they do, I think most teams will find it hard against us and you will see exactly what KK had on his mind this past eight months

i don't believe the dribble what comes out of these so called supporters slating the team over Saturdays result, i could agree with the lot of you if we were playing the kind of football we were playing under woy,but the football were playing wif the king in charge is quick and fast with young British players right across the line up and Suarez running the length of the feild just to make a tackle..the football we are playing at the moment is like the unbeatable's in their prime with arsenal(maybe abit over the top) but i was abit dissapointed with the result but the football we played was magnificent it could of been four or five n maybe carra is getting on but you got to have the scouse core because otherwise we wud b just another mercenary squad with no pride
jayblair89 YNWA

Fine post.

Scouse core is serving us well. Let's keep it up. another 21 years maybe without a league title maybe.... perhaps we should swap our academy with the bitters?

As much as it is hard to say, we should not re-sign Torres. It is like that ex-girlfriend that left you for someone else only to realise that she never had it so good with you a year later. Even though your heart says yes, your head should say no. Let's not forget he was not only below par at Chelsea but at Liverpool for the last 12 months of his career too as much as I would love to get my Torres & Gerrard canvas out of the loft (I can't bear to throw it out) he has not been on form for 24 months. That's a long time.

Ash

Torres never got over his injuries and was a shadow of his former self for quite some time with us... hence we sold him to the clueless chav's. Good riddance as he is now a championship CF at best.

cant believe the nagativity on this page .Ok we lost to stoke,we also battered them for 90 mins.We were unlucky not to hammer them ,any other day and it could have been three or four.Im quite happy with our new sisnings and dont think its fair or right to criticise them after 4 games.Rome wasnt built in a day

Was it built in 21 years Mr Anonymous poster? Well thats how long we have heard this carp for.....

United went 25 years without a league title between '67 and '93. I'm willing to bet it's not that long for us.

Kieran.

Only able to listen to game on radio so posted on sat that it was a terrible result [which it was] but have seen game since and taught we were very good not barca mind but going in right direction had all the play just one of those days ball didnt want go in the net plus there only effort was a goal .We are streets ahead of where we were last year plus people with stevie g back its like gettin world class signin and he will be fully fit not rushed back half crooked combine him with luis adam big andy plus downes and our front 5 is awsome solid at back world class keeper so lets look to 3 points off spurs red2toe

Just passing this on. If Torres can't get a move back to Spain in Jan he wants to come back to Liverpool! Well that shows you he knows he has made a mistake. Funny thing is now we wont even answer his calls! Haha good luck nando

Yep. It's either Atletico or Liverpool for him if he does decide to leave chelsea come jan.

BooDaBooze

Lets be honest if we could get him back cheap then that will be one of the all time rival screws in history.
Fair enough he's judas and left, but you can guarantee if he came back he wouldn't be leaving again in a hurry.
And let's not forget even judas wasn't all bad.
I'd take Torres back in a second.
He'd love us even more this time for saving him.
THE ONE THING I DO NOT WANT TO HAPPEN is for him to end up at united with rooney. I've always thought that they would be the perfect pair.
Duckula

QQQQ Torres. Thats what I think.

Looka he ent coming back he wouldn't have the balls ta . . but i'd take a straight swop him for carroll the pair of them are playing crap but it'd end up making 15m on the deal

12 Sep 2011 18:04:20
Torres not happy at Chelsea.. I can probably see him leaving come either January or next summer. My guess is he'll try Italy but depends on who in Spain or England want him.
I would guess his value could be anywhere between 15 to 20mill.
Should Liverpool revive his career and offer Chelsea a cheeky 20mill bid?
With gerrard supplying then his magic may return.

I personally think Kenny should bring him back. Nando can only score for LFC and no other club and he knows this.
He was starting to score regularly before he made that bad bad move to chelsea.
I'd welcome him back into the fold again and back him to rediscover his scoring form working with Kenny if the fee is not more than 20M bucks.

BooDaBooze

Couldn't score for us either you kn#b, hence we sold him. He is a has been.

Do you guys have no pride? He is a traitor.

Hi eds and fellow REDS, Firstly Saturdays result was not what we wanted but the performance is not worthy of all the abuse this site is receiving for LFC players and even Kenneth Dalglish himself. I think the eds need to take a harsher line with what posts are being put onto the rumours and banta site as scrolling down it is just abuse after abuse about our fantastic football club. It is certainly putting me off coming onto this site and reading intelligent posts from the likes of Macca and other regular posters. I think all proper LFC supporters know that this season is going to be a long season with mostly good results but we know that we are not unbeatable. We are on the rise and cannot be expected to win every single game. The Britania is always a difficult place to go for any side but I thought we played well and created a lot of chances that couldn't be converted. We are going to be beaten this year and god forbid we might even lose the odd home game but please if you want to support LIVERPOOL FC then you support through the bad not just support the 2-0 away wins @ the Emirates and 4-1 away win @ Old Trafford. This season is all about finishing in 4th place or better and 70 points is going to achieve that. That means being able to drop 44 points from a possible 114. I'm not saying we need to accept defeat because LFC will never accept defeat but we need to stop jumping on every players back when they don't have a good game. I have seen players like Carra being slated on this site which is out of order. What he has done for the club over the last 15 years has been fantastic. God forbid Stevie has a bad game this season people will be saying we should of sold him. Sorry about the long post but I would die for this football club to succeed and prove all the haters wrong and we need all supporters need to support. Not criticise. {Ed001's Note - if people want to speak it is not your place to tell them they can't simply because you don't like what they say. This is not China or the US.}

I thought this website was www.liverpool-rumours.co.uk not www.slagoffliverpool.co.uk. I wasn't saying people can't express their feelings but when you post evry single 1 saying how crap we are and how much money we have wasted on players like Hendo and Carroll it puts Liverpool fans off coming onto this site. A bit disrespectful to China and USA!

Are you serious. Hey Eds, why don't you guys create a "everything we do is perfect" site where people like the above can go and have a discussion about how brilliant we were? It is a banter site you fool, one for adult debate. If you cannot handle the opinions of people who, like you, love the club but take a different view (I am of the belief that Carroll is not worth the money and that Carragher, loyal stalwart that he is, should be fazed out) it is YOU who should leave the site. This site is the place where we all come to have a debate and the reason we are all here and posting is because we care about the club. The end.

Ash

Looks like this poster could tear you a new arse Ed,his points are valid, let the propaganda flow......another point you can be a bit of a argumentative little s**t sometimes, which makes it a bit more interesting, keep up the good work.......

The purple heart 69 {Ed001's Note - cheers, I think.}

Disrespectful for China & USA? WTF? {Ed001's Note - what is disrespectful about it? Neither country allow free speech, so they were good examples to use.}

Thought 'freedom of speech' was a yonk term Ed? China / USA guess I missed something, sorry. 2 peas in a pod.

just heard that lfc asked meriles to hand in a transfer request good back up player gone

12 Sep 2011 17:04:44

A very, very nasty piece on the Stoke game, LFC and Kenny Dalglish in The Independent this morning channelled by Russell Kempson. I say channelled because it seems to have been authored from someone who is brain dead.

I do not know who Mr Kempson is - and rearely read The Indescibablyblybad. He appears one of these people who has a real issue with LFC & Dalglish. You know the type eh? Its like Ferguson who has to admit that Old Trafford is not Anfield and that there is no club in the world with an iconic anthem like YNWA. At least Fergy knows it. Its just jealousy. Fergy is a winner. But he also knows he will never be loved across the broader football family, like Dalglish, Clough, Busby, Shankly. He is not in their class. And he knows it.

Some just hate the fact that LFC have a character like Dalglish, someone who is genuinely one with the Club and its history, who is genuinely loved by the fans fans, admired by the owners and feared by rivals. Rather than a mercenary plastic personality that will end their days managing in France or Spain - who have no real attachment to the Club or its fans apart from their bonus cheques.

Nothing wrong with knocking the LFC team, attacking Dalglish's selections and commenting on his transfer policies - that's fine. That's football. No problem.

But for a journalist such as Kempson to come out with drivel such as this in a national newspaper;

" But, of course, once upon a time, Liverpool were a 'big four' club. On Thursday, in Champions League week, Stoke go to Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League. The Liverpool players, er, have the evening off. As the Second Coming of Dalglish, the legend, takes shape, he still has much to prove" - Kempson, The Indy..

He has much to prove? Who the flip to? To Mr Kempson? Under Dalglish LFC is rejuvinated, the team has been rebuilt, the fan base is excited and the greatest Club in British footaball has refound its soul. Under Dalglish, the team has lost 8 times in 28 games, whilst completely rebuilding the squad. The team have a style and shape and if they keep playing as they are doing, they will (as Dalglish said) win far more games than they lose.

Stoke went one-nil up from a dodgy penalty and then had one shot at Pepe Reina in 90 minutes and simply park the bus. Fair play - Stoke did a job on LFC but don't pretend that Dalglish and LFC were outhought or outplayed or that the men from Anfield were awful. Stoke are an awkward team who get lucky with their physical style ever few weeks. Great. Stoke will take points of Arsenal, Man Utd, Spurs and Chelsea too. LFC are great club, with a progressive, fast improving team who hit bad luck against Stoke. On another day, Liverpool would have won the game 1-4 and I really hope LFC absolutely batter Stoke when they come to Anfield. That's the story Mr Kempson - not a snidey, bitter criticism of one Britains football greats - someone who's boots & trophies you are not worthy to polish.

I do feel sorry for Mr Kempson. Never mind the lack of success at LFC Mr Kempson - what about a newspaper in terminal decline, unloved, under achieving and not respected? I visited The Indy offices last year and it had all the cutting edge media buzz of a small village fete managed by the local primary school. Its a 'lets pretend' broadsheet. The Indy never had the wit to uncover MP's expenses or the phone hacking scandals (that would be The Telegraph and The Guardian). It was The Times that uncovered scandals in FIFA. The Indy didn't even have the balls to hack mobile phones like NOTW and make the front page sory all by themselves..

Mr Kempson. Play the ball, don't play the man. And especially if that man is someone like Dalglish. Once you've become an outstanding journalist, helped people through times of hardship, won the greatest accolades in your profession, gained the respect of friends and foes, rejuvinated a team in six months and done all this with a sense of humility, tact and good humour, perhaps come back and criticise a man like Kenny Dalglish. But if you are going to attack someone like Kenny Dalglish ad hominem - someone who has been at the peak for 40 years, then you'd better do so from the position of being an outstanding player in your own profession. But at the moment Mr Kempson, you work for The Independent, so as you would say 'you've got a lot to prove' .. before you criticise Kenny Dalglish

Drew

YNWA

Nice post Drew - perhaps he sees Dalglish as an easy target as he won't ban that 'newspaper' from his conferences or refuse to do interviews with them unlike some other managers I could mention.

JRG

Perhaps Kenny has a bit too prove? Or does he walk on water?

Great post Drew :-)

ed001, its clear we are a stronger team all over the pitch , and with stevie coming back it makes us even better, i feel we have just been a little bit unluckly at stoke, but we wont be the only top team to drop points there , just a couple of things i would like to ask you, do you think kk will give some game time to young sterling and morgan , even coming off the subs bench , and do you think we will go again in jan for a player or two , or do you think the squad is strong enough , i think we are doing okay with so many new players in the team, and we will get better as all the players work on team-work and get to know each other better, thanks........lfc {Ed001's Note - I do expect a few youngsters to get on the bench, and playing a few cup games too. As the season wears on we are bound to pick up some injuries and they will get their chances. I also very much expect a little more investment in January, though not a big splurge, just one or two players.}

Toni silva has impressed me more than any other youngster this term. putting aside flano and robo. also sama and wisdom are very good partnership, both wants to play from the back and have better long distance passing abilities (switching play) than carra, skrtel or wilson and with both feet.

I am shocked about all the anti-carra posts. The guy is a legend. However i realise that people are not guarenteed a place in the team becuase of who they are and what they have done previously...but the man is our current captain.
He brings more to the team than just defensive skills - leadership and organisation, which is vital.
Yes its good to have a team with youth and potenital, but you still need a wise head or 2...unless you want to follow the arsenal approach.
Anyway, just my thoughts

ps We were unlucky not to get anything from the stoke game...if we play like that away from home we are going to get results.

Paul Mc

Only a legend in scousers eyes couldn't even get in the England team, thrown to right back whenever someone else plays for liverpool at centre half, and he is a about as quick as a wounded snail. The term legend is far to overused these days.

With all due respect. You are not giving me a reason as to why he should be in the team. You may as well bring Big Sammy back, if you want just leadership and organisation. The truth of the matter is he has been on the slide for two seasons now,and with his leadership and organisation, we haven't finished higher than 6th. He hoofs it all the time,He is easily turned and fouls all the time. It's only my opinion ,but I think we can play a more attacking, style without Carra in the team. Carra was 20 when he got his chance,so was Hansen. If he was a 33yr old that Hodgson bought last summer he would have gone before Konchesky. He his in the team of what he use to give the team.

Micheal mouse

Lets burn Carra on the bonfire of the vanities

As I said earlier, Carra's commitment, class and brilliance is undeniable. But we have to look at the bigger picture, he's not getting any younger, but the young lad Coates couldn't have a better mentor now could he.

I am really looking forward to seeing Coates play. I think there could be a good chance of Carra, Coates,Agger and Enrique back 4 against Spuds. Carra at rb, help Coates settle in. Although Carra maybe loosing pace, he's still a better Rb than Skrtel ever will be.

In further reference to Ray Burmeisters post, it's totally disrespectful to refer to Stoke as a rugby team, it mightn't be pretty, but they win games. They did get to FA Cup final last season. I for one couldn't give a rattlers if we play ugly as sin and win 1 nil and kick lumps out of opposition than having to play great attacking exciting football and getting nowt for it !

If I was to take a positive out of a defeat in relation to defeat to Stoke, is that we must learn to be more clinical. The impending return of one Mr Steven Gerrard will certainly help this!

Rebel_Red

Lets be honest. Carra (yes nice bloke) has always been avg at best. He is part of the reason we haven't won a league title in 21 years.

Isn't football about winning? Or do we only wanna big up the local lads? Wake up people.

Is football or being a liverpool "fan" about being ruthless bast*rd, that have no loyalty to any player who may be going through a bad period?

When a player like Torres leaves he is a judas but we won't support ahy player in their hour of need, what does that say?

Carra the reason we have not won the title in the last 21 years?

Let me see you're a script writer for the Green Green Grass?

We have nort the title for 21 years becuase of lots of reasons such as

No Investment

the Madness of King Rafa

The Sh*te that was bought when we spent money

I could go on and on and on and on

The arrogance, condescension and disrespect shown by many on here and across all media sections to Tony Pulis and Stoke City has been quite frankly astounding.

Stoke play the game the way they see fit.
Who are we to arrogate to ourselves the right to slate them?
Who are we comment, let alone berate, how other teams set themselves up?

Bottom line is that we failed to beat Stoke. That should be the focus here; not Stoke's approach to the game.
Comments such as "they're rubgy club and should be in New Zealand" are utterly distateful and undesirable. A shocking indictment of the quality of our and modern fans.

Let's focus on our own team and leave others to do the same.
Wenger can get on with the condescension and dictating to others how the game "ought" to be played.

If their current ways serve them well, why should Stoke change them?
They, like us, are there to compete and will do whatever's necessary to win/survive, as we'll do ourselves.

So stop the insults at Stoke or any other team of their ilk. You're an embarassment to football and, more importantly, Liverpool FC.
EACH TO THEIR OWN.

Baie dankie

Ray Burmeister

Precisely, well said.

King Kam

Argee ray, we have to beat and counter all styles of football , rather than slate stoke for the way they play, we should give the other team a bit of respect sometimes.........lfc

"Argee ray, we have to beat and counter all styles of football , rather than slate stoke for the way they play, we should give the other team a bit of respect sometimes.........lfc"

Perhaps that's the problem at the moment? Your fans are expecting too much? You'd think with all the negativity on here (which has been really funny) that you had just lost 5-0 to Norwich. Stoke away, will be a tough game for everyone this season, yet a lot of Liverpool fans expected them to roll over. A bit of arrogance creeping in perhaps? United travel to Stoke in a few weeks, and even with the way we have been playing, a win is not a guaranteed. Anything can happen in 90 minutes.

Matthew...

That's the problem Matthew,some fans are asking to much,but I don't think it's arrogance.
yes you are right Stoke away is a tough place to go.
Redeyedhector

21 years and we want a league title... yes def asking too much. Years of foreign carp and defensive foreign managers playing the most boring football alive. Amazed I still support LFC. And you ask why we are a tad too optimistic?

So tired of the rose tinted glasses makes me ill. How the mighty have fallen.

Matthew , your right but you just hope to get the points , in 4 or 5 more matches we could be closer to you, i hope , but cant take it away from utd , great start by yous.........lfc

I agree. I love Stoke. Hope they make it to the knock out stages of the RWC. Who do they play in their next game? Hopefully not the All Blacks.

And who in the right mind would award De Gea keeper of the month. Utd's keeper of the month maybe. Better then Reina when he first came. Now i know your talking pure bulls**t. You bell end lad. He's cost you a goal or goal chance in every game. City goal,West Brom goal, Arsenal Goal,Spurs flapped at cross. Defoe hit post shoulda scored. Got chipped off his own defender from 30 yards plus for the Spanish u21's. He's crap and you can try and convince yourself otherwise but in your heart of hearts you know he's gonna cost you more points then he'll save you. Reina will be the complete opposite. Save us more points then he drops us. Some name calling their lad, Glenn Johnson first, Queen Kenny now me. Spanner lad is exactly what you are. Pure and simple. You seem touchy today spanner and last night, i know the truth hurts Spanner so unless you keep wanting the truth be told,and you keep whining back,follow your leader,get a can of tennants super and chill out, otherwise get back on your own page spanner. ed you think its wise selling merilles to chelsea a rival club it makes no sense ok got our money back but at what cost ... {Ed002's Note - Players come and go, I would not worry about it too much.}

How will we ever survive without our midfield general Meireles. Will I ever forget those 2 months when he actually played well. Good player, not a great player and would have seen a lot of the bench. Lets all move on.

Fitzy

I wouldn't either Ed002 if I was a Chav fan and laughing my ass off. Least you guys got one right off us.

12 Sep 2011 16:13:40
carra has brought alot to the defence,i agree there, but that word "has"..Now he's a liability,he's always been prone to score a own goal or give a pen away, but nowadays he carn't cope with the pace of the game..I know he bleeds red,but the times right for coates to fill his shoes...just because he's a liverpool lad, doesn't mean he has the right to play all the time.....drop him now....

Ag plz. Why bother, he will play and play and play. He never gets dropped nomatter how carp he does. He is a big hero cause he is a nice guy.

12 Sep 2011 15:47:33
I'm beginning to wonder if "Carra" needs to sit out a game or two or at least drop to the bench. Yes he is a legend at LFC and has put in some monumental performances over the years but I'm beginning to think he's started to look a yard slower more so each game.
Think about it - we concede a goal (which we shouldn't have) against Bolton, come the end of the season those silly mistakes could cost us Champions League Football. Walters turned him on Saturday and he was undone again - it was a "pen" if we're all being honest guys. That's a mistake from the same centre half in the last 2 PL games. Maybe Carra should be considered as cover for the RB position and we should blood Coates against Spurs on Sunday - another tough away day. Great performance on Saturday aside from the result - the way we played actually made me feel better about losing!

Jonny Boy.

We are not destined for champions league qualification this year!

It's written in the stars

Who does not believe in the cosmos?

The stars say Liverpool will be fifth.

Kenny will be asked to come fourth but he will come fifth!

12 Sep 2011 15:27:01
No it is not strange that most peoples starting line-up does not include Carroll cos he is a waste of 35m quid and Hendo is not worth the money we paid for him either and I think KK is starting to moan too much!

Henderson is a young player and was brought not just for this season but the next 5 seasons and to be honest he's done ok so far but still learning his trade whiles probably playing out of position. In time he'll move to the centre. Same goes for carroll he's stillm young, give them time and get behind them. Look at lucas for example , everyone was saying he'd never be good enough but when given time and a decent run in the team is now one of the 1st on the team sheet and a brazilian international. Lets all get behind the team exspecially the young lads

Bilverstone

What exactly has KK moaned about??

Yaaaay so I only have to wait a few seasons, phew was worried for minute there.

12 Sep 2011 15:13:48
15m for Torres Take hime back?

If that's how much he's gonna cost, then yeah, that'll be good business. Bring nando back home.

BooDaBooze

Shevchenko was bought for 30million and sold for 7 (if i remember correctly), so Chelsea must make more loss than that in percentages, hence would only take him back if they sold him in single digits, else he can rot the hell out there or in middle east

12 Sep 2011 15:13:39
Lets face it a half fit Stevie G is better than Henderson and have you noticed that most peoples starting line-up team does not include Andy Carroll - strange?

A half Fit Stevie G is better than anything Liverpool has to offer

A half fit stevie g is better than anything in world football. Duckula

Gerrard has carried Liverpool for more than a decade.

How long can suarez carry liverpool?

12 Sep 2011 14:46:47
'Fernando Torres is being quizzed by Chelsea over an interview in which he appeared to criticise his own team-mates.'

LOL Story of the day! All at once the Stoke game is forgotten!

SingRed

Why is this if true so surprising.

Torres is an Ego Maniac

12 Sep 2011 14:58:13
I know that people want instant success but it takes time and i believe it takes time for new players to settle. But every new signing we have made is really good and positive and all have different styles. You need different styles for different games. I also believe that Arsenal away was a brilliant defensive performance led by Carra. We are building a solid base for the season ahead. Some of the posts are unbelievable bout the new signings. Support them and let them bed in.

Mighty Reds

Fact is we where beaten by stoke, don't care about their style of play, for the money we have spent we should be winning these games, bit of a reality check this weekend, thought we had pulled ahead of the likes of spurs but looks like we will be battling it out for 4th or 5th, no wonder other fans laugh at us!!

I think if Kenny and Commoli would of went after players similar to suarez we would of won stoke but he opted for mostly british

Stoke will take points off a lot of teams at home this season. We were also unlucky to play them after the end of the transfer window with the players they bought. All the other players now fighting to prove themselves again (for a few weeks). relax

Fitzy

Haha. Here comes the real point. Becareful.... local lad loyalty alert.

12 Sep 2011 14:03:40
I think we should start Bellamy and Carroll against spuds in a 4-2-3-1 formation with our strike force:

Carroll
Downing Suarez Bellamy

SingRed

I have a feeling 4-4-2 may be the preferred formation to make sure RB and LB aren't left too exposed to Bale and Lennon..

We should play our game and let the opposition worry about us, instead of letting them dictate the way we play

SingRed

I think we should have bought Mata.... We wouldn't be worrying about Spuds then. But..... we bought...... "SUPER HENDO".... league title here we come....

just a handful of games gone and we are already 5 points behind! We will be lucky to make the Europa league and with carra playing the way he does we have no chance in the fair play league which i thought we were aiming for. KK as a player was awsome but as a manager? Did you see the dross we were left with when he left last time?

WE ARE DOOMED!!

Bring back Souey and Woy........

HAHA, only kidding. Everyone one chill out. Carra will be fine and will mentor Coates. Glen Johnson is injured again(thankgod) and Stevie will be back soon. 3rd place here we come!

Wreckless Kev

12 Sep 2011 13:25:18
"My starting eleven: Reina, johnson, Coates, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Adam, Kuyt, Downing, Suarez".....what does anyone else think?

I'd replace Kuyt with Bellamy

As long as carra is not in the team we stand a better chance. He is better to be used as a subs. If Gerrard is fit then play him instead of Henderson.

I'd replace Kuyt with anybody....

12 Sep 2011 13:14:11
I think once our squad as gelled and got to know each other properly then we are in for a great season. We have got two tough away games now i believe we can win both. Both will be tests in different ways. Spurs are certainly beatable on there own patch and Brighton will be tough but i think its important to have a good cup run and get to wembley.

Mighty Reds.

12 Sep 2011 13:10:39
Will everyone stop bashing the team?

We destroyed a very good Stoke team at a stadium that is very difficult to go to. Reina had 1 save to make and conceeded a pen. We had 74% possesion and on any other day would of won that game 3-0 or 3-1. was just 1 of them days.

Andy Carroll - please stop bashing him. Hear people saying Coulda got agureo, Benzema etc etc for that money... Your talking rubbish!

1st of all we had to sign a striker that day or have no cover. It would of been impossible to bring in a player from abroad in the short time availiable.

2nd Who would of joined us at the time? Langishing just above relegation zone. We werent in a position to attract a top striker.

3rd Yes we paid a lot of money for him however if we lost Torres and signed noone it would of had a detrimental effect to morale and we saw how the team spirit lifted us threw the league in the second half of the season.

4th Wages. Carroll fitted into the wage structure. Lets use Aguero for Example - If he was signed and given the £250k a week he wanted and is now recieving we would have to give practically the intire squad pay rises and any new signing would simply say "hes getting £250k what you gunna give me?" as is happening at City with players like Yaya Traore on £220k a week.

5th Carroll was choosen not as an individual but for what he offers the team. A big strong player who can win a header and has a sweet strike offers a lot to saurez ie knock downs etc. His shear precence in the box for set pieces causses panic and opens space for other players while creating space for the others in open play too.

Put simply he can be our "Sutton" to complement our "Shearer" (Saurez).

He didnt set his price and it doesnt make a difference how much he cost the club wanted him, the club signed him. Could understand the moaning if the club had blown its entire budject but thats not the case. KK and DC were still able to go out and buy whoever they wanted in the summer. Price is only relevent when working on a restricted budget.

Huyton Red

Huyton Red, thank you for explaining the situation precisely, clearly & most importantly correctly. I tip my hat to you sir...

dd

Yea, nice work, Huyton. Unfortunately this matter remains a blind spot to the Carroll bashers. All of it is irrelevant to them; at the end of day, it's still about the 35mil and why we didn't buy Agu..o.
Need I say more?

SingRed

Im not going to bad mouth of any of our players never have done and never will this team is going to just get stronger and stronger we are 4 games in and already i can honestly say it looks good we are playing for each other i havent seen the boys letting their heads drop yet .

'2nd Who would of joined us at the time? Langishing just above relegation zone. We werent in a position to attract a top striker.'

I think the last sentence says a lot about what you think of Mr Carrol!

SHRIMP

SHRIMP my thoughts on Carroll are clear. He's a big physical presence who can strike well and header well. He's not a techincally excellent player but we have that in Saurez. He's the type of player Kk wanted as a foil for Saurez.

He was in his 1st full season in the top flight hadn't played any European football. Regardless of tallent/potential you couldn't describe him as a top player.

I reiterate. We got the player we wanted. Price tag is irrelevant. Leave the money worries to the experts running the club.

Huyton red

Jwalk, seem i've hit a raw nerve their sunshine with the little fact that your manager seemed half cut in that press conference ha ha. I know, the truth hurts eh, and unless i'm going dead which i defo aint, its not the first time i've detected a slur from your great manager who continually moans groans and bitch's. Knowing every team from us to Stoke to even to Swansea, fergie will be on about protection from ref's because everyone is gonna test him with high balls, and speaking of balls, Tennants super nose knows this, knows he couldn't catch the clap of Waynes ex, that granny. And knows he's made a total balls up buying him. Their's a few good keepers out their at the moment and De Gea aint one of em. Has anyone seen the goal he let in last week for the Spanish under 21's, an own goal from 30 yards, while he's half a kip in la la land. If you haven't seen it check it out, i'm sure it'll bring a wry smile to your face's. Jonson6

LOL Johnson talks nonesense, De Gea was awarded goalkeeper of the month, that speaks for its self btw hes doing a damn sight better the Reina when he arrived. I promise within a couple of seasons he will be one of the best in the world and a key member of the team. What is your problem with SAF, he may drink bitter but you seem oh so bitter, the legend can drink as much as he wants after all he knocked you of your f***in perch single handedly. How on earth can you talk about SAF moaning at refs, i agree he has done and probably will carry on doing no skin of my nose nohnsense6 but you seem to be forgetting just what happend with queen kenny this weekend throwing a bitch fit. All in all id prefer SAF going at the FA and referees rather then queen kenny having a quiet word with the owners.

JWalk

5 times JWalk still sitting pretty on the European perch.

It took Taggart 25 year's to knock us off that perch! and if Kenny had of stayed do you really think you'd be celebrating your 19th! dont think so! Alphared

Carra is past it, Hendo,Adam & Carroll are just Average players, Skrtel should be sold, Johnson is injury prone as is Kelly & Agger, we are still a one man team ( now Suarez), Gerrard will never return to the player he was, Lucas isn't a Liverpool type player.

A fanbase full of pessimists.

The Irish Rover

I think u have lost it mate u got it all wrong

vivek12011

Don't mind the pessimists mate, their always going to be around. It pisses me off as well, but nothing we can do about it, they just won't be patient.

RenegadeRed

AVERAGE?
Hendo is way above everyone else at his age and will be worth more than double the 16 mill we paid for him in a few seasons time.

Adam has one bad game and suddenly he's average. Let's not forget he was nominated for player of the season last year, surely that is saying he is well above average, agreed?

Carroll, ok he's not inform at this time but give the lad a break. He needs to learn to play the Liverpool way. With that in mind and good service, he'll be banging them in for joke. Forget about the price tag, we basicly swapped Carroll and Suarez for Babble and Torres. Fantastic swap in my opinion.

Carra, ok he's getting on a bit, but he brings a lot to the defence, and until the king and he decide he has passed it, I'll carry on supporting him, because that's what true supporters do.

We're a one man team? Do you know anything about football? We are playing some good football and we will only improve as a squad, we still need to gel.

How do you know Stevie won't come back and play some of the best football of his career? Are you physic?

Clearly you know more about football than the king himself. Maybe you should of applied for the Liverpool job before Kenny, we probably would be top of the prem now....NOT

You're either a manc who as come on here to make yourself feel better or CLEARLY you are not a true supporter of our wonderful club.

Was everyone expecting Liverpool to go unbeaten this season like? So Stoke won that game maybe when they come to Anfield we can see a football match instead of whatever that farce on saturday. Still we should have done better, maybe luck will be on our side against spurs.
Already people are putting pressure on Coates to come straight in a take over from Carra, personally i think he needs time to settle before he is thrust into the spotlight.

carragher is a great player for lfc imop jamie should be used sparingly not every game its as simple as that but still a very good back up player

Spot on,mate. Use Carra sparingly. Play him in every match and he will cause us precious points.

Morning all you Reds, our Celtic Ed007, has written a blog about the late great Jock Stein, (see Celtic site for details)
That set me thinking, who is the greatest ever British manager? Being a Celtic fan I am obvious a big Jock fan, he won trophies purely on footballing ability, tactical awareness and without the vast monies, today's managers have. Also what will never be equalled, no matter which team has vast wealth, is putting out a totally Scottish team born and bred within 30 miles of Glasgow.
Before you think, its all about Jock, I think Shankly was of the same ethos as our Jock as was Busby, all were born in mining villages, and all were passionate about attractive attacking football.
So Reds, lets hear your views. Neil T

Carra held his arm around the player far too long- he didnt pull the man down, but it was in clear sight of the ref and was just asking for a penalty.

He should know better and it was a really bad move by him, and I don't agree it was a harsh decision, even though we should definitely have had a handball near the end.

The defender went down with both arms held out so that he would block the ball.
It was ball to hand, but only because the player stuck his arms where he knew the ball was coming, so it was still intentional.

I'm gutted, but Stoke can really defend- lets hope Man U and City struggle at the Britannia.

Ever tried falling with your hands by your side. go watch it again. if that was at anfield, for us it still isnt a pen. {Ed001's Note - you can fall with your hands by your side, just like you can stand up and defend with your hands behind your back like so many do nowadays. It is about training, just like jumping with your arms up for leverage, which is a complete fallacy that it is needed. It is perfectly possible to jump with your arms down, but you have to teach it from the start to young players to make it second nature. Go watch videos of John Charles play if you don't believe me, he was supreme in the air but his arms stayed by his side when he jumped.}

Nicely spoken could,nt agree more

12 Sep 2011 11:25:39
Quite agree - hendo, carroll and adam are decent players but do not have stand out qualities. Lots of money spent here on "average' players.

I agree. Anyone would think the England team was actually good at football!

Ash

Give them a chance.

Adam had 12 goals and 9 assists in the premier league last season. This year he's played 4 premier league matches scored 1 goal and racked up 2 assists.

Henderson is only 21, cut him some slack. I was also frustrated when he missed those 3 opportunities yesterday but things like these will take time. Remember Lucas? It took him 3 seasons to become as good as he is now.

As for Carroll, he needs some game-time. When he starts scoring he won't be stopped, he scored 15 goals last season and has a monster of a left foot.

Good times ahead.

anyone else think that carra should be dropped? he has lost the art of tackling and every time he got the ball he hoofed it up field, then we lost possesion

op6

Agree that he hoofs too much and possession is then lost- it just happens too often, even when he's not under too much pressure and there are players available to him.
I'm amazed KK hasn't addressed that tendency to be honest.

But I'm not sure if its fair to write Carra off based on one bad decision though- he made some good challenges against Stoke.

I do think putting his arm around a defender like that and keeping it there for that long, he's just begging for a penalty- even if the guy shoved into him.
It's not something you expect a player of his experience to do.
He's a master at obstructing a player and then tumbling over and making it look as if he's been fouled, but time is running out on those antics- sometimes it costs LFC dearly, as it did with Stoke.

I wouldnt be rushing to get rid of carra. My own feeling is that carra is one of those players who always starts a season slowly and takes a while to get match fit.To say he's "lost the art of tackling" is just bizarre.A great organiser and the most likely man to be in position to clear when a dangerous ball is sent in I think it may be that Carra is only fully appreciated when he is gone and the routine clearances he makes through excellent positioning stop being made.I dont know enough about Coates yet to judge but give me carra over skrtel any day of the week.Yosser.

I just hope that the decision to buy players such as Adam and Hendo does not backfire-they are both decent players but they do not possess stand out quality. At the end of the season I hope we are not reflecting on questions like- if only we'd signed more expensive and better quality like Aguero/ Mata we would have qualified for the Champions League- then the extra 10/15m would pay for itself (that's not forgetting revenue from all the shirt sales).

You are obviously forgetting the cost in wages these types of players would be demanding and also that we didnt have any European football to offer!! get a grip & also sign your post!
YNWA CoolhandLFC

You are missing out on one glaring fact that we cannot offer Champions League football and they are on a lot higher wages than Liverpool can offer. They would not have opted to play for us, so get over it and move on

How much do you actually think comes from shirt sales? I've a feeling you thihk it's much more than it really is.

Mata would have come to us even without CL football

Adidas get the majority of money from kit sales

I thought it was part of Aguero's contact, to keep all of the marketing revenue.

Paul R

Sorry but Mata wouldn't join you ,I even doubt he'd have joined you if you could offer CL footy

Does anyone else feel that we now have one of most creative forward line but no natural goal scorer.
I hope we don't end up like arsenal of last season and play all enterprising football with no goal to show for the dominiance.

Agree with u mate. Pretty dissapointed we didnt get some1 with more technical ability n awareness like llorente or gomez. Wud have been brilliant with suarez. Still, carrol is young. He should be given atleast till december to prove his worth as a regular starter in our line up.
Indian Buzzer

Are you not forgetting that Suarez is in actual fact a natural goalscorer and has been so at every club and level he's played at. His record for us alone has been quite superb in my opinion.

Hi Eds & Reds,

Having watched the game on Saturday I just want to make the following points:

1) Carra has been a terrific servent, absolute legend , world class defender, but we can't deny that he doesnt have the pace he used to and it is beginning to show. If anyone tries and tells me Coates isn't ready , that's complete and utter s**te, if you can play in the Copa America all tournament for the winners your ready. Now before start saying I think Carras finished, I think not. Carras contribution down the years have been none short of heroic.

If anything I think Carra is the perfect mentor for Coates.

2) Losing to Stoke isn't the end if the world.

3) it showed how influential a Gerrard type figure is, Charlie Adam has been fantastic since his arrival, but I felt we were missing Gerrard's maestro touch.

4) Lucas Levias - what a turn around in a players fortunes , seen as not worthy to wear the shirt 12 months ago , to probably first name on team sheet after Reina.
IMO the lad has a long future ahead of him at Anfield and I think a possible captain/ vice captain

Rebel_Red

Finally someone talks sense. I agree with post because unlike most post over the last two days, it doesn't simply slate the legend that is carra. Yes hes coming to the end of his best playing days, however, I doubt there is a player in the team that gives more commitment and passion for the club, stevie g included. Carra will still offer the club alot even if it isn't by being the first choice cb. It makes me laugh how all these "fans" slate our players when not at their peak ie gerrard, carrol, carra, Hendo.
The simple fact is that that's the football is, we can blame our losses on mistakes by the defenders however if the team do not take their chances and score, that's the risk you run.
Let's show out team some support because I for one feel alot more optimistic about our future than I did when the two cowboys were in charge.
Andy the red.

Just a quick question Pool lads, where do 'lfc' and blair mayne post, ive scrolled down and not seen a single post by either of them oh and not to forget 'red eyed rectum'. The first two come onto the united sight and claim they are the king kennys of the liverpool sight and are always having to teach US and YOU on all things football related?1 Do they ever even post on here and do you guys even like them?

Blair Mayne mostly talks sense, but must have too much time on his hands if he's on the united site.

They make copious posts on the Man Utd banter site endlessly talking tosh

Unlucky on sat, the boys deserved something out of that. Disappointed at those having ago at Carra, yes he 'gave' the pen away but it was a 50/50 one which can go either way. Other than that they were solid at the back, just as they were against arsenal. As for blame then those who missed their chances are equally to blame (we know who they are!). Nobody's mentioned the excellent through ball from Enrique to Hendo. Hendo could've gone round the keeper or slid it left to Suarez to shoot into empty net. But alas wasn't meant to be. downing had a cracking game (ex for shooting!) looks Like bern there for years, Lucas was pure class, as was agger an Enrique.

All things being equal (an fit) my best team would:
4-2-3-1
Reina
Kelly carra agger Enrique
Lucas Adam
Bellers sg downers
Suarez

Pace packed with power. Interplay between the front 4 with Luis give n
go with sg. At back Kelly over jonno as better defender.
I hope theyre all fit an this is what Kk sends out against spurs. But you can put Hendo for sg and kuyt for bellers

Back on it from sun lads

at the end of the day stoke is a tough place to go . They have a good side and are strong at home . We battered them . They had one shot on goal which was an iffy penalty to say the least . We played well and created alot of chances and on another day we would have ran away comfortable winners . Just one of those days when nothin goes in . I'd be more worried if we were out played and created nothin . Roll on spurs we will take it out on them

I was interested in Kenny's words about refereeing and I do have some sympathy when you think about some of the 'decisions' (the pass back and lack of red card in the Sunderland game, numerous handballs against Stoke). I think the real problem with referees is the assessment system. Howard Webb became the highest rated referee because he doesn't make decisions - if it looks slightly contravertial he just waves play-on and the other refs have copied him. In this way their assessments come out very high.

The goon journo on Talksport went off on one about match-fixing and how silly to think it could happen in this country (which Kenny hadn't mentioned) which amused me as similar sentiments were expressed in Italy, Turkey and even Germany before match-fixing came to light.

Match-fixing does exist in this country in a number of ways - not least by clubs putting pressure on the ref before games. Do you remember the game against Utd when Mascherano was sent off? I read Wes Brown's column in the Sunday papers in which he said that the ref had told Ferguson before the game that he intended to make an example of someone by sending them off for decent. Ferguson told all of his players to keep their mouths shut and to try and wind up Torres. Ferdinand kicked Torres for 20 minutes while the ref watched and then sent Masch off for decent. If that is not an example of a ref altering the course of a game then I don't know what is.

Lastly there have been a lot of new players in the last 9 months and it will take time for them to gel so keep smiling and enjoy the bright future.

Sir Derek

Is there any truth in this, if yes, then there should be an FA enquiry, and we should put pressure on them to do so.An Absolute disgrace.

The word is dissent not decent.

And what about the blatant bad ref's decision's this season! dont you think we should put pressure on the FA to have an enquiry about them? as really we've lost 5 point's! Alphared

U cant go by a price tag just cause Carroll cost 35 mill he dont make the price tags up. He needs people support he is still young and learning the game he is a class act just needs support.

Mighty reds

Class act LOL on what facts do you base that on? Suarez is a class act, carroll is a poor mans crouch.

JWalk {Ed001's Note - surely Carroll is a rich man's Crouch, considering he cost 3 times as much?}

So does that mean that De Gea is a rich man's Tiabi/Barthez/Bosnich/Howard?

How much time do you want to give Andy Carroll - for gods sake the bloke cost thirty-five million quid!

And Berbaflop cost you 30m....so what?

Maybe more than four games into the season? He wasn't properly fit and is still bedding into the squad. Regardless of his price tag, he should be given more time. People need to have a little patience with the lad. Support him and let him get on with it, he can be a beast of a plyer for us.
Rush

He cost me nothing so I am willing to give him a little time. The money that has been spent hasn't been spent to win the League this season but to form the basis of a top side within the next few seasons. I personally don't think we will spend this amount of money in the foreseeable future as the owners are trying and hoping to develop a Champion side with what is within the club. Once we get a fair crack of the whip you will see us progress. The title may not come this season but it won't be long. Have a bit of faith and trust and encourage our players without slagging off all the time. You may however slag off carragher - I have been doing so (with justification) for years. I'm off on holiday now so I won't be able to read your insulting replies for the next two weeks.
Dutchmal

Berba cost 30mil yeah, top goalscorer, hatrick against you mediocre wet wipes and of course that a couple premierleague winners medal, you know that myth on merseysides.

JWalk

So does that mean that O'Shea and Wes Brown are the best defenders in the premier league as they have some winners medals? Presumably Michael Owen is a better player now then when he was at Liverpool as he now has a winners medal?

JRG

JRG

The question is valid. Sure you have to give Carroll time but the fact remains that you have now started playing a better brand of football with the ball on the ground and that style just doesnt suit Carroll. I dont think Suarez plays well with him either. He prefers someone with a bit of guile IMO.

TK-Red

TK-Red,

My above reply was in response to JWalk and not the OP - sorry for any confusion.

JRG

Oh I got that JRG Im just genuinely interested as to whether you can see him fitting into the team like you'd hope and how much time you would give him. I cant help but think the only way he will reach is potential is if Liverpool change their style of play again.

TK-Red

TK-Red, OK I am with you now - Hope you don't mind me asking but are you a Man U fan as your posts say 'you are playing better football' and 'how much time would you give him'. If you are a Liverpool fan then I apologise for the insult ; )

I have always supported any player that plays for Liverpool and gives their 100% commitment to the shirt, regardless of ability. I have always stuck-up for AC on here when I think he is being unfairly criticised however, I do think his performances so far have not been to a suitable level and this may be because he is uncomfortable with the pass-and-move football. He doesn't seem to have the confidence at the moment to pass the ball first time - he wants to take one or two touches before off-loading and these wasted few seconds can be the difference between a move breaking down or ending with a goal scoring opportunity. When he came on against Bolton Downing and Enrique put two lovelly balls across the goal that only needed tapping in but he was static in the middle of the area.

So how much time should we give him? It is difficult to say - he is still a young lad and there is no-doubt he can improve and I have confidence that working under KK he will do. Remember he took a rough diamond in Shearer and turned him into a world-class striker. Unfortunately it seems a lot of fans want instant success.

JRG

Yeah Im a United fan so no offence taken ;) I think the difference between Carroll and Shearer is that Shearer was deceptively quick where as watching Carroll chase the ball down is like watching a 3 legged dog chase a tennis ball.

TK-Red

Hi TK-Red,

I went onto the Man Utd rumour page to see whether your name appeared on there and I see you are from Norfolk, I am from Suffolk so there is a rivalry within a rivalry almost!

I saw a report earlier in the season that showed Carroll was also deceptively quick - I am almost certain (and hopefully one of the ED's can back me up) that Carroll is one of the fastest players in our squad (although I can't remember over what distance). What he probably lacks is explosive acceleration. He also has an absolute rocket of a left foot (see the goals he scored against Exeter and Man C) but at the minute he is playing too much with his back to goal to use it.

JRG {Ed001's Note - according to OPTA and the physical tests done by the coaching staff, Carroll is one of the fastest players in the squad. It still seems difficult to believe though.}

JRG Shearer was far from a rough diamond when Kenny got him! Alphared

Alphared - shearer was at southampton for 4-years and scored 43-goals in 158 appearances. he moved to blackburn for £3.6m - with 1 goal in more than every 3.5 games i personally would call him a rough diamond - he was definitely not the finished article or anywhere near the world-class player kk made him.

jrg

Sorry Ed001 - forgot to thank you for the supplying the details regarding Carroll's OPTA stats.

Indian Buzzer ye i've been one of Carra's biggest fans but i've never seem him see so dejected as when he was walking off the pitch after the Stoke game. I think his confidence is pretty shot at the min. But disagree about Coates their is no way he's been bought,or will accept being back up. No way will he be replacing Agger mate the way he's looking stronger and fitter then ever, hopefully he's finally beaten his injury woes because he's been immense this season. I foot mind Skertel at right back,no slouch comfy on the ball, not scared to cross the half way line attacking, looks like we've found the next Chris Smalling, not, perish the thought.considering our 2 first choice right backs are injury prone,he could make that position his own,who knows. But if Coates wanted to be back up,he coulda gone to City and probably have doubled his wages mate to sit on the bench every week. Every test in his career so for Sebastian Coates has passed with flying colours. Someone posted his C.V on here not to long ago and it was pretty mind blowing for a 20 year old. He'll be in sooner rather then later for sure. Jonson6

Agree about Coates but not Skyrtle who's not up to standard imo. Can't head a ball properly (well one header against Bolton in how many seasons) can't tackle properly, distribution is woeful.
One of the major differences between us and the mancs over I don't know how many seasons especially highlighted when we finished 2nd is Quality Centre Backs going right back to Bruce and Pallister. Players like Carra and Skyrtle will never win us the league! It's a fact! you have to be solid in the centre of defence.
Stoke were playing against quality players and still managed to keep the ball out the net. Our defence (Carra) had nothing to do and still managed to make a crucial mistake.
kidmillions

There's treading the line between loyalty and ruthlessness. Carra has been a fantastic servant to the club and he's a great leader and organiser. However, his noticeable decline cannot be ignored. Against Stoke, he was clearly aware of his own lack of pace and as such, arranged the defence horribly deep against Stoke forwards with very little 'scary pace.' As a result, our fullbacks and Agger had to sit on him in the defensive line, creating a bigger gap further up the pitch. Thus limiting our play and expansion from defense. The lad has been superb for us down the years. Chelsea and Milan in 05 stand out for me, but there comes a time where players past there best have to move aside. Ferguson has been doing it for years. Ideally, I'd keep Carra in the squad as cover and for the younger lads. He may not want this though. However, Carra's lack of pace doesn't seem to be made up for with his 'footballing brain.' I think it's time to say thankyou and goodbye. Maybe make him a coach, after some training? It's difficult but surely Kenny and even Carra himself can't be oblivious to the fact that he struggles against very mediocre opposition (Petrov and Walters to name to recent travails). Used to be magnificent, but the operative words are used to. Sorry to go on, but I hope that Carra won't mar years of excellent service by hanging on that bit too long.

Rush

Sorry but I cannot agree with you kidmillions. Reina reached 100-clean sheets in a liverpool shirt quicker than any goal-keeper in our history so he must be playing in-front of a good defence. He has also won the golden gloves at least twice.

I think the biggest difference between us and the mancs is consistency - every year we are able to beat the top teams but then lose to a mid-table team or a team fighting relegation. Last year we done the double over Chelsea, beat Man U and Man City at home comfortably, drew home and away to Arsenal but lost to Wolves, Stoke, West Ham and Blackpool.

We need to learn how to play against teams that pack their defence and defend deep. From what I have seen we were very unlucky against Stoke - we conceded a soft penalty and weren't awarded one that you often see given. We are not currently the best team in the league but we are far from being the worst - if we were awarded that penalty and scored it would the same players be given half the criticism they are receiving at the moment?

JRG

JRG It's a fact crucial goals were conceded from corners and free kicks when Rafa was playing zonal marking! it was a constant talking point surely you remember?
As for Reina golden gloves! He is the best goalkeeper in the prem! The most clean sheets does not mean the least goals conceded..if you get my point?
Last season we finished 2nd only to Utd in the top six mini league, this I,ve already stated on a previous post.
On the Stoke game I thought we played really well and were just unlucky not to score.
I,ve also stated on a previous posts that I have had a couple of large bets on us to win the Premier. Optimistic I know but it's early days.

To the above, during Rafa's time in charge we in fact conceded fewer goals from corners and free kicks than any other team in the league. It was a popular misconception that we conceded more because it was talked about so much every time we did concede from a set-piece. It is only because of dumb ex-player/commentators who didn't understand the zonal marking system and who wanted a return to the good old man-marking system. I would say that man marking is used extensively throughout the premier league and yet 60% (roughly) of goals scored come from set-pieces so this system is just as flawed.

I do understand your comment that most clean sheets doesn't necessarily mean least goals conceded but I believe that during the last few years our defence has been sturdy with the likes of Hyypia - Henchoz - Carragher - Agger, but I agree that maybe Carragher needs to play less now.

I really do wish you every success with your bets : )

JRG

Johnson6 mate i was simply stating that we need to rotate with 3 top class centre halves. For the big games i wud have agger n skrtel coz of their experience. Im not writing off coates. Watched the copa america n honestly i believe he is played better than godin n lugano. But i think kk should give him a season to settle down n get to noe the bpl well b4 being thrown into the deep end. kk shud play him in the fa n carling cup this season. People make me laugh slagging off Carroll give the bloke time. He had a injury last year he will come good as he frightens oppenents defence. He needs the fans support and he wil get there. No doubt these are the fans who was giving lucas stick 2 or 3 yrs ago. Dont see how you can compare him to Aguero get over it he is a City player. Get behind the boys in red not any other players.

If Carroll's presence draws defenders away and create space for others to score, I'm perfectly ok with that.

BTW final word on Stoke game: ref's decisions either go for or against us. Now, until such time as the football powers that be introduce video technology or maybe have 5th and 6th officials like European matches to watch out on goalmouth incidents, we have to let live with decisons made by the men in black.

My only bugbear is our wastefulness in front of goal and an ageing defender whose decision-making is becoming quite suspect. The difference between Carra and Hyypia (whom I regard as our best ever CB since the nineties) is Hyypia reads the game well and can anticipate. Hyypia made Carra look good.

Agreed. Roll on 15:30 for some comedy responses hey?

All these rumours about potential players in Jan is a load of rubbish. If you thought logically Liverpool may have a few players in mind, but that would change if we where within touching distance of 1st place. Im sure if there was a chance of the Premier League the owners would invest again at Jan to help us push on, however if we are in fourth and not looking to move up the table as 1st place is too far, I don't think the owners will provide funds, and would rather wait till the summer

Quite agree with previous post, we dont want to be known as a moaning club and yes we have wasted lots of money, Carroll and Henderson are both bad buys indeed.

You seem to know very little about football, or are just trying to annoy people, as you have me. Do you think that 4 games is enough to judge a player? I for one have been suitably impressed with Henderson. He's 20 for god's sake. Give him some time. He made a few mistakes against Stoke but he'll get over that and improve. Much the same can be said of Carroll, he's only 22. Patience might not go amiss, he needs time and support. You are not in a position to say that we've wasted lots of money as of yet. Come back in 10 months time.

12 Sep 2011 08:22:53
Sorry Kenny but dont consult our owners about poor refereeing decisions, get on with it, we dont want to be known as a bunch of moaners. On the pitch I think we have wasted lots of money, Henderson and Carroll 55 million - enough said. Very lightweight in midfield - anyone agree?

You say 'We don't want to be known as a bunch of moaners ...but "We have wasted lots of £££...& we are very lightweight in midfield" That is moaning!

If Hendo scored, you wouldn't have said anything. If Suarez scored we'd have won 1-2. We were unlucky and just couldn't put the bloody ball in.

We are not lightweight in midfield. Far from it. We controlled the game from start to finish. What more can you ask for?

Think back to when Fergusion first won the premiership, also Mourinho, both set up a seige mentality with the players, their all against us etc. Backed his players, blamed the ref without saying it outright and got a message to other refs. Class

Wastlefullness and refereeing decisions cost us in this match. I was at the game and can say Stoke bend the rules to utter breaking point. MOTD won't have shown it, but Stoke's defenders at set pieces are beyond the pale. Refs need to wake up to this. At one point, when Carroll was behind Agger for a corner, Shwacross physically had his hands in Carroll's face trying to stop him running. It's unbelievable what they get away with. It's all well and good saying Stoke defended well and were resilient, which they were, but it comes to a point where you feel cheated. Cheated by referees in consecutive games, missing big shouts. Cheated by Stoke who are the new Wimbledon. Tactically better than given credit for, but only loosely termed as a 'football team.' They make the pitch as tiny as possible, drench our half at half time, the grass was very, very long for some reason, and as I've moaned about before, the things they get away with in the penalty area. (It's not just Stoke on this one.) I know this is a tirade, but does no one else think the PL's standard of reffing is abysmal? I struggle to think of one who's ok. Marriner at a push. And even he's not very good. Huge rant I know, but Stoke got very, very lucky.

Ok, so how many people still think its better to have bought andy carroll than aguero? Coz right now carroll doesnt justify his wage or his transfer fee and aguero does both. To be honest I thought carroll was rubbish before we signed him still think so now. Kenny obviously agrees as stoke was the perfect game for carroll but kuyt got the nod. So much for him terrorising defences. He couldnt terrorise a primary school

Mr parker

...and Primary School is where you're off to shortly I take it?

So here's a football lesson for you.

A. Aguero wouldn't come to Liverpool.
B. Aguero's wages make him a vastly more expensive player than Carroll.

TRY AND UNDERSTAND.

dd

I think that Aguero cost £5million more than Carroll in transfer fees and earns five times his weekly salary. Aguero's on 250k a week? So he's cost city £52 million by the end of his first year. And you obviously have some way to go in understanding football tactics if you think Carroll was the only option against Stoke. Sometimes you can't fight fire with fire.

Most probably aguero is like Torres. When Real calls him urly he would leave us

Eds - I am a regular poster please excuse the shameless plug but it IS Liverpool-related and is for a very worthy cause.

To all LFC fans. There is a Kiva site specifically for Liverpool FC supporters who want to make positive change in the world. For those who don't know Kiva, it is a non-profit site where individuals can lend (yes, lend) small amounts of money to individuals in poverty-striken areas of the world. They can use your loan to help create better lives for themselves and their families and you eventually get re-paid. You can choose who to loan to, what type of business, what country, what religion, etc. 100% of your loan goes to the individual and you can see the results it produces.
There is a LFC group set up and I'd love to see more fans on there than the ManU and Toffee groups. The link is www.kiva.org/team/liverpool_fc

Maybe this group will lend a little cash to the Patron Saint of wealthy footballers

Well piss ant, i'd put my last pound on your manager drinks more booze in a day then i do in a year considering i dont drink. He drinks everyday no doubt in my mind, laughs at his own players ala Berbatov. And what was this. But Wayne, i cant understand, we've done every thing to help you since you've been here, why are you doing this to me. Thought he was the big shot as well when he tried taking on the well known Irish race horse owners. JP and John were their names if you forgot, you couldn't make it up. Let me stick my tongue a bit further up your clacker and let you black mail us into a massive new contract. He wasn't just gonna leave, he was gonna go to City of all clubs. Kinda reminds me of Chelsea's start last season Utd's. We'll see piss ant. Hope you've replaced your rib now your leaving us. Jonson6

Agree to Tommy c. Much that I would love to see him. I don't think he'd be a starter. maybe just may be Carra is benched. Hope, so. He has been a great servant to the club but we all know, he is not that better now. TNWA

And to the piss ant Spam fan thats been on here out of respect to Liverpool K.K will TALK to the owners of his own volition. He's not one for bringing Liverpools great name into any type of disrippute, i'm sure piss ant you'll pull me on my spelling but at least he doesn't turn up to his press conferences half cut, heard him slur on more then one occasion, the one where the bbc where allowed in was an embarrassment. He was jaked up if ever i seen anyone. Just had his can of tennant's super before hand and made a right t**t of himself mumbling on about England and only Prem manager who thinks its funny to slur s**t. He thinks he's bigger then Utd and you know what, he probably is,and when he's gone which will be 2 seasons max, you'll fold so fast you'll be ringing done and dusted for another 30 years. Just like to know if you or any of your family has ever gobbed at him back in the 80's when he couldn't get near the title because of one K.K. because its a fact it happened, something that tells you all you need to know about Utd fans. Dicks bar 1. Jonson6

Someone's got his knickers in a twist, oh wait i guess you've just got home from the pub. Drink plenty of water before you go to bed and it'll lessen the hangover in the morning.
