Next season is going to be massive in terms of where we as a club are going. Although I've been impressed with the what Brendan Rodgers is trying to do, I can't help but wonder if the job is just to big for him. I hope i'm wrong, but it's hugely important that we qualify for the champions league next year, so the pressure is going to be massive next season, can the relatively inexperienced Brendan Rodgers handle it. Also with most of the of the budget needing to be acquired through player sales, will the manager get the right kind of quality we desperately need. We need proven stars not expensive overated players.

Please do not spend £12m on Williams, that will be £30m we've spent on two Swansea players, who are worth £12m. Between them.

He'd be fine. With a couple more quality players the squad would be as good as most in the Champions League, we just have to get in to it. I don't know where this "the job is too big for him" thing is coming from but we're hearing it a lot on here.

Any potential Manager that produces a 300 page dossier in an interview is full of rubbish. Buck Rodgers should never have been appointed. Not good enough I am afraid, and never will be. Dreading next season and that's being optimistic.

I think the owners must have been impressed by Rodgers' dossier and I can imagine he was impressive in the interviews, passionate and articulate. As ruthless businessmen, however, I cannot imagine they will continue to employ BR as manager as the results haven't followed. I can only assume that we have failed to reach any of the targets the owners must have set for this season.

You'd turn up with a list of transfer targets written out in crayon.

Or a screen print of your all conquering team from football manager!

Just 5 matches left - no chance of Europe - no chance of relegation. Any chance of some of the younger players being blooded? (That is the Dortmund way, according to Brendan Rodgers!).
DM2013

Kenny did that in the last 10 games and got the sack for a poor finish to the league.
derryred

Sorry but **** the Dortmund way. The Liverpool way needs to be restored.

Great ideals and dream Brendan-"don't need cash to compete!". Lovely fantasy idea. Maybe we have to wait as long as Moyes has (taking nothing away, great job)- But it's it going to be 1/2 Champs Leauge goes over a decade ala him? because that's ok for them Fella but NOT US! Sadly like or not cash plays huge role nowadays

14 Apr 2013 07:45:22
As I posed on another forum when he was appointed:
This sort of comment from BR makes me think he was the only option for LFC who was wiling to work the way the owners wanted them to.
E. g. Spend little money and turn a profit

If anyone cantvseethat this is the way he owners are setting the club up, then they need their eyes seeing to.
It's exactly the same transfer approach as H&G, big transfers early to show face and then cope with what you've got.

2 consecutive clean sheets, bring on Chelsea.

Yes! Come on Chelsea - have it yer,

Great News The Tunnel visioned (self proposed better fans, anti those who see truth! But actually go!) Sam and Maek have successfully convinced Platini that procession and chances counts as much as ONION BAG So we have been awarded extra points because keepers have done their jobs against us and defences have been disciplined (parked buses) but because we had lots of procession and chances we have been post game awarded points from Several similar game Stories this season because we ahem dominated. We now sit third pushing on for 2nd

What? .

Yea all West Hams fault bus parking eh Sam and Co? Today their Keeper is Trautman Banks and Clemence. Southampton was oneve those days and their an excellent side. Its fookin Reading! Weve bought Sturridge/Coutiniho cost as much as their side to improve getting ball between huge wide and high target but one Superman stopped ten outfield players on his OWN! Yea you all keep convincing yourselves.
No Steel, leaders, will to win, winners, never say die. Borrowers v West Ham. No fear of losing. Nice repetitive Manager who should rocket them but doesn't look as if he has it in him. They at times don't look like they give a ship ala West Ham last week. They don't appear to be able to vocally urge each other on or see changes required on the pitch themselves like ie Teams with leaders like Mcalllister Hamman who would volley others and show way on the pitch. Hypia had game intelligence too. You guys STOP making excuses table doesn't lie! Players aren't good enough. Some lack will to win. Question marks over Brendan. And owners who kindly saved us but we have no clue if can drive us forward. (what's happening with stadia also?-Gone quite) Soz to break the fantasy but were not going back merely treading water. Wake up! Ffs Reading West Ham West Brom Villa Home there for you all to see. Going nowhere!-Aint good Enough. I ll tell you we will beat Chelsea maybe Everton the brainwashed will go wild then draw or lose v Newcastle and Q. P. R that Gents is LFC of last ten years!

AGREED

There is simply a lack of will to win the game. Always choosing the simple pass sideways or backwards instead of trying to make things happen.

No intensity, just going through the motion, simply not good enough

Eds. performance good result not so good but come on these days happen at the end of the day we go again next Sunday all this crap sack rogers is laughable I belive we have made progress under him yes we have to strengthen in summer but dnt most teams I firmly believe 3or 4 quality players in the summer and will be on the right track let's stay positive. ynwa

13 Apr 2013 21:28:25
One thing that I'll say about today is that we've really got to learn to finish these teams off when we're playing well and dominating like we did for most of todays game, esspecially the first half. We have to be more clinical.
All the predictable Rodgers out posts after not winning, happens every time we don't win now, I think are wide of the mark. The blame today is not at the door of the manager in my opinion. I think the players are to blame today if anything. Put it this way the manager has put his team out and they played well. They were playing away from home, kept a clean sheet (just), had TWENTY-SIX attempts on goal and dominated for most of the game. Any manager in the league would be happy to go away from home and have 26 efforts on goal.
There needs to be more of a killer instinct in situations like today. that's where the players have to take more responsibility and put the chances away to finish these teams off.
There are faults that have to be addressed this summer. We clearly need one or two players with a physical presence. A couple of grafters. We also need a couple of stronger options to come off the bench to make an impact. We really needed a striker to come off the bench today.
I think it's going to be a very important summer to bolster the squad, more competition for places. We have to be able to be consistant.

13 Apr 2013 23:12:33
Great post, my sentiment exactly. BR put out our strongest 11 today and the way we played we should have won, I don't see what he could have done differently. The question is, how does he instill that killer instinct in the players? When we turn up we can beat any team in the league. Other top sides seem to have the ability to really press on and step up a gear when needed, whereas we seem to fall apart and go into headless chicken mode. We could do with more depth in our squad, but we don't have the distraction of other competitions! We have some top class players in our first 11, including one of the best strikers in the world, but we are so inconsistent its painful! At the moment I don't see how adding players to the squad can change this poor attitude.

Agree he doesn't SEEM a motivator to me

13 Apr 2013 21:23:23
Sam the kid (bless him) done load of spouting to us older experienced match regulars. Well fella this is why we're so sceptical and same has gone on for years now. And what we'll next do is beat Chavski and maybe Everton too and lose v Q. p. r take it from those gone through it for years!

13 Apr 2013 21:10:55
When are people and more importantly the owners going to accept what is obvious?

WE ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING GOOD ENOUGH.

Please put this right before it is too late.

13 Apr 2013 21:01:56
The logic or you can probably call as the way we performed this season.
IF suarez doesn't score or create the magical brilliance in the opening period.
we are going to get a draw 90 out of 100 times
we expect so much from him that I don't see anyone taking the responsibility to get into score sheet apart from Gerard.
chelsea have the worst record for a striking pair this season.
but hazard + mata have scored more goals and assists combined than any other in Europe.

13 Apr 2013 20:56:13
After we got beat at home by Villa I got a lot of stick when I said the premier league this year was very poor. Even utd fans are saying their team hasn`t played that well this season and they are 12 points ahead now. We are a million miles away from the top four now nevermind utd. To me I think we have a better squad than everton and yet this will be the second season in a row we have finished below them. I`m going to get some stick now but I think if Moyes had the Liverpool squad now instead of his everton one we would be in the top 4 now. I think moyes gets the best out of all his players. I don`t think Rodgers is getting the best out of his players for some reason. I`m not saying sack Rodgers and replace him with moyes i`m just stating that in the past 2 years the league table dosen`t lie.

Andykophead.

Yes but while Moyes is a great manager, he has been in charge at Everton for 11 years, and won nothing, we have to give Rodgers next season at least, he has been on a learning courve this season, and made plenty of mistakes, but let's support him, and the team he puts out,
redforever

But you are missing my point I said if moyes had our current squad we would probably be in the top 4 now

Not even close to being good enough or close enough to where we need to be.

Nothing else needs to be said.

We are a long way from being the force we should be but to be fair their goalie was man of the match

We averaged a shot at goal every 3 minutes, great goalkeeping though

13 Apr 2013 20:06:45
I used to get frustrated at the contstant rotation under Rafa. However what it gave us was two things. Firstly it kept players on their toes. Nobody perhaps bar one or two expected to start every game, which is important. It kept players hungry for the shirt and built a relatively strong and experienced squad. Secondly at this stage of the season it kept players fresh. Now I don't deny players should be able to play week in week out, especially without Europe or later stages of a domestic cup. However it's clear fatigue and mental strength are factors that seem to have caught up with players in recent weeks, especially Johnson, Lucas and Suarez.

In Rodgers defence our squad pre January was lacking in depth, with him becoming quite reliant on youth and Suarez in particular. Both seem a little burnt out to me, especially Sterling and Suarez, which given his long travel for international football makes sense. I wouldn't dream of dropping him, but perhaps the occasional substitution?

Substitutions are also something Rodgers seems to under utilise. I know a bench of Assaidi, Suso, Shelvey etc isn't going to strike fear into many premiership defences, but I do think those players could make some impact on precedings. Suso in particular is a player that should be getting some time on the pitch. He has a calm approach to the game, which when you're trying to force a goal, could prove a good catalyst for changing the style of play.

I don't deny we've progressed under BR. Our form up to Southampton from January was excellent and it's clear the squad needs some time together in the summer developing, plus a few intelligent acquisitions. My biggest fear going into summer is the loss of Suarez. A lot raved about Sturridge when he joined, but I'm honestly not sure how many goals he'd score in Luis absence. Borini may come good and I really hope he does, but looking at the facts we only have one true goalscorer in our team and if he leaves we could slip into mid table mediocrity.

I trust in what BR is trying to achieve at our club, he's a good man and an ambitious young manager. I just hope he learns how to motivate and tacticically manage a complete squad over the course of a season. We need to keep players fresh as its showed with Tottenham in recent years, that playing the same 11 week in week out, often leads to poor form at this stage of a season.

13 Apr 2013 20:54:44
good sensible post mate.
If we need to challenge again.
we need at-least 2 suarez type player and probably 2 countinho type player.

13 Apr 2013 20:05:31
Whatever business we do in the summer, please, please let us not sign Ashley Williams. He is not a player to take the club forward. I watch him playing for Wales and he has no mobility or pace. This would be a big step back for us.

Please do not sign him.

one more thing been on lfc website and read Rodgers predictable after game speech same rubbish as usual and nearly every comment is please Rodgers go and I have to agree we played the same way under Kenny but he won a cup and another final and got us Europe this season has been disgracefull and before people say its transitional look how Chelsea are doing they are in a so called transition period we as fans have to face facts the owners don't have a clue about football that's why they have made loads of mistakes Kenny full time commoli not getting stadium sorted earllyer and finnaly Rodgers!

13 Apr 2013 19:47:17
the problem with Rodgers is he has no plan b he doesn't change anything when we need to mix things up this is a problem of a novice manager i'm playing this way and that's it Liverpool needed an experienced manager and still do i'm afraid if we give him another year it will be another one wasted the owners need to start getting things right now we do not have any, more time to waste if we miss top 4 next season we will be mid table for a long time and the owners have to take the blame they have done nothing but make a long line of mistakes let's hope they don't make another by not getting rid of Rodgers at the end of the season

mike

13 Apr 2013 20:51:56
Liverpool is a big club I was shocked when you guys appointed Rodgers instead of top manager, Liverpool job was always going to be too big for Rodgers, I doubt Liverpool will achieve top4 in near future.

Wales for life.

13 Apr 2013 20:56:46
there is no plan B.
there is only one plan, But there can be two different types of players.
If any manager looks at our current bench. they would faint.
only midfielders. and midfielders.
and midfielders cannot win a game after 60 mts.

13 Apr 2013 19:45:19
Assuming the second highest bid for a Liverpool player this summer would be for Countinho.
what a player. what a gem of little master.
we need at least 1 suarez and 2 countinho more.
and Please sell the deadwood. who doesn't contribute anything.

Enrique and Johnson were awful today.
we player really well.
26 shots. 14 on target. but 10 were pretty much easy for the keeper.
we need a clinical striker.
calm. composed.
hernandez. RVP, Huntelaar.
a proper CF.

If we buy another CAM. with real quality. where does joe allen fits?

we play miles better without him.

Same old same old. If the manager and we were to follow your views and transfer dealings we would be playing with 4 strikers 2 CAM 2 Mid and 2 Defense. Come on mate just try to lay off the negativity for once and get behind the team cause having that much negativity in yourself isna good for you.

Support and be positive cause being negtive ain't going to change nothing but being positive will surely improve your day

13 Apr 2013 19:42:07
I think if we are looking for a cb, dm they have to be the one's that score goals from corners / s p. what's the point of having all these corners and when teams just sit back, If they have 3/4 shots on goal you really don't need the best defender in the world and I think BR will get it right next season the players seem to give him 100% and that's what you want as lfc fan bring on Chelsea

Not looking forward to Chelsea next week, Hazard, Mata and Ba have goals in them and I think our strikers are already looking towards the summer with their quality of finishing and even the hated one appears to be getting some form for Chelsea and I have a horrible vision/nightmare of him scoring in front of the Kop next week and us getting a real pasting. Unfortunately for us, that vision could be reality if we play like that. Say what you like about players like McCarthy playing "the game of their life" but we shouldn't have lost that game. Sturridge looks like the moody kid we feared he was going to be, Coutinho looks good business, but every other player signed by Rodgers has been a flop (Borini included, even when he wasn't injured he didn't ever look like scoring and Nine in 24 for Roma isn't exactly prolific. ) Honestly if Rafa is available in the summer, we should look at him, Rodgers is pushing us dangerously close to mid-table obscurity and if Suarez leaves in the summer, we will be in that category. He is our only world class player and if he leaves, we won't get another soon. No more Swansea/Wigan (if you read the papers) /Chelsea youth rejects and some good players who are going to battle for the title, not fighting for the Europa League.
Rafa in, Rodgers out. (Or down to his assistant to learn)
And if we sign Ashley Williams or Franco Di Santo, I will cry.
Windsor Red

How can so many people deny the sense in this post? Rodgers is no better than Kenny and if we don't sort it soon we will be a giant midtable club (Though without Suarez nowadays that is all we are anyway)
Top post Windsor Red, lots of sense in it and I too have similar worries about Chelsea next week. The only bad thing is the number of people who disagree with the facts which are becoming evident with each passing game.
Kensington Liverbird {Ed001's Note - how sad must you be to reply to your own post pretending to be someone else agreeing with you? You should get out more.}

Lets hope the lads get fired up for the chelsea game, it will leave some people red-faced.

13 Apr 2013 19:13:55
Difficult to know what to say. Don't want to jump on the 'sack everyone' bandwagon, can see that we are playing better stuff than last season, but can't shake this very uneasy feeling that we are slipping into mediocrity with a bit of a whimper.
I know we have no right to win games just because of who we are, I know we can't compete financially with 3 or 4 of the top 5 teams but this tacit acceptance of not beating teams we should beat (i know the keeper had a stormer, but we should have been good enough to take that out of the equation), and sitting 5 points behind Everton makes it look like we're not even trying to compete - we're happy just trotting out excuses, and looking for something to blame (small squad, young players, no money, stadium too small. ). And that's what's worrying me.
With the players we have, top 6 and a cup run should have been a minimum requirement this season-and neither are going to happen, which means another year where we look less of an enticing prospect for ambitious players.
I like BR, and I get what he's trying to do-but we need to stop drifting
Just wish I knew how.

Anyone see the scenes at the Wigan/Millwall game? It's disgraceful. Ruining the occasion and taking the emphasis off the game. And to do it in front of young children is sickening. They should be ashamed of themselves as they are the ones giving the sport a bad name. Feel sorry for the children as they will have nightmares of this day instead of great memories of a special occasion for both clubs. Sickening and disgraceful is the only way to put it.
Cheers,
LS7.

Why what happened?

How can anyone disagree with this statement?

There was riots between the fans in the stadium mate, shocking to do such a thing in front of children, them sort of people should be banned from football! One robbed a policeman's helmet which I thought was a bit funny though! But even still it was shocking mate, you should of seen it one guy had blood pouring down his face. You might be able to see it on the FA cup highlights on UTV later if you want to see it mate.
Cheers,
LS7.

Danny Dyer?

The police seemed more than ready with their batons, and lashed out too much, blood was everywere.

This is so much better than last season

And red apples are so much better than green apples

In Rodgers I trust (to make a balls out of things)

Don't look back we can't keep living in the past jaysus how much longer can we live with the present?

Progress what progress?

I keep saying its the emperors new clothes and Rodgers as they say on Gerry Springer is "niked"

I'm not a big BR fan as previous post's will show but even I cannot blame him for what happened today. Their goalie played an absolute blinder shouldv'e have been 4-1 thought we played really well.

If we accept mediocrity then that's what we'll become. mediocre. Sorry but not winning is not good enough. blame Rodgers blame the fans blame anyone but the fact is most fans have started again. next year we'll definitely be top four. next year we'll sign improvements. next year we'll know more about if Rodgers has moved us on. next year the youth will come good.
Im sorry but I've heard it all before right back to Souness moving on. no wonder everyone else is laughing at us. its always next year. get a grip, what have we seen to guarantee top four next year?
I seem to remember the last 2 months of kennys reign being all about next year and a definite top four finish
Sorry for the negativity boys but i'm tired of false dawns. and I also wish the players would show more balls, growing a pair against Manchester United every year and no-one else isn't good enough
YNWA JFT96

13 Apr 2013 19:19:21
we have accepted mediocrity our team just lacks that killer instinct. it has been like this for quite some time I think BR should take some responsibility for this.

Sorry, but after 10 mins, it was turning out just like last game V west ham, not one player gave 100 per cent, and why did we only put on one sub, can't see us winning any of our last games, the body language was just awefull, a real lack of commitment, but hey we really tried in the last five mins, we will finish 7th if we are lucky, everton will finish above us, and we will stay a mid-table side for some time to come, its so frustrating watching us play boring football, and when Carra retires in the summer, we will lose the one vocal player and leader that we have, top four is out of our reach, for some time, and if Suarez leaves, we are in big trouble, sorry to sound so negative, but like I said, can't see us winning any of our remaining games, playing like that.

In reply to the guv your saying that fans should not be in anyway optimistic for next season yet you sign off with ynwa maybe you should learn the words to our teams anthem

13 Apr 2013 18:17:37
Hi Eds, cannot get enough of the site and this is always the first one I visit.

After two back-to-back 0-0's for the Red men, what do you think needs to change in the summer, personnel wise? Also, where do our interests lie in terms of signings?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - The defence remains the priority.}

Buy someone in the mould of Fowler, Rush or even early Torres. Someone that you know 9 times out of 10 is just going to bury it every time he's in front of goal with the ball.

And a world class CB and DM.

Crowman.

13 Apr 2013 18:39:35
A few players out of form I think, Suarez has been poor for at least the 3 games, Enrique and Johnson have been poor also, Sturridge has hit a brick wall and the accuracy of our shooting is laughable, I wonder what Shanks would do? I can only assume he would concentrate on shooting practice every day in training, because this lot couldn't hit a barn door! the goalie had a good game yes, but we made it easy for him most of the time, 25 shots on target and no goals tells it's own story.

13 Apr 2013 21:04:45
sturridge won't score 20 goals a seaosn.
we need a tupical CF. who just sits in the box. and finish it.
RVP, Huntelar, Herandez

I dnt think BR wants a player that just sits in the box. players can contribute to them and still score 20 goals a season without just sitting in the box

13 Apr 2013 18:33:57
So the owners only want young players with resale value. They refuse to sign Dempsey, but are reportedly willing to sanction a move for the 29 year old Ashley Williams for around £12m, will we ever learn when it comes to overated overpriced players.

13 Apr 2013 18:29:47
So disappointed with how this season has panned out, but not entirely surprised. we seriously lack consistency and that killer touch, that the top teams have. the manager needs to sign a better class of players, or it's going to be another frustrating season next year. I like the managers methods and playing style, but just can't help think that the job is way too big for him, hope I'm proved wrong.

No more mediocre expensive Swansea players for a start, let's set our sights a little higher. we need real quality.

Next year will be your year, you mark my words.

Disney!

Not by signing players like Ashley Williams.

Without Suarez? I doubt he's going to stick around for much longer. He deserves to be playing in the Champions league and winning titles. Liverpool are still someway off from that.

See the irony Disney and even though your a Manc others on here too blind and young to see how often start of every season we hear this s it

13 Apr 2013 18:24:21
This is a transitional season, next season we can rightfully moan and wonder but BR is the right man for the club for now and for the future. Patience is required from all of the fans, regardless of where they are from or how old they are.

I know that Waro and Smithy have stoked some fires and taken some stick but I admire them for consistently replying. We may not all agree but we are all LFC through and through.

I am disappointed we will not qualify for europe as seems likely because I think it could really help develop our youth. However we need to have some perspective on the advances in style of play and personnel, next season will see a far more competitive squad.

McB

Doesn't help that the manager, says not qualifying for the europa cup, could be a blessing, well today the players took him at his word, and are already on the beach. same as the last few games last season, which I think contributed greatly to KK, getting the bullet

Yes, transition from good team to a poor one.

Well BR better wake them up. A horrible run til then end of the season and FSG will make a change. please just not Benitez! I used to fall asleep during games.

Transition excuse for 20 years!

13 Apr 2013 18:18:27
Same again Sam la-and you said its rare! That was case start of season without the extra firepower invested in v likes of Reading!-who ship Goals!-But it's down to their keeper and luck. NO IT AIN'T 14 CHANCES YOU ENSURE THERE'S NO CHANCE!With at least two!-NOT GOOD ENOUGH LA

13 Apr 2013 18:09:36
leave br alone everyone, its just one of those days, we were very good and i'm looking forward to seeing more of this team, on another day we win that match, luck was against us though. there keeper was good aswell. I think we will finish in top 4 next season

The trouble is mate I keep hearing "on another day" that day doesn't seem to be coming

13 Apr 2013 18:02:48
So, if brendan rodgers philosophy of 2 players in every position is correct, then we will probably neeed these:

A left back, noe idea who

A right back, no idea either

A back up for lucas, either diame or alonso

A number 10, erikssen or the lad from shaktar

A right winger, preferably mertens

Another striker, aubameyang

Two new centre backs, williams and antother, plus the promotion of kelly and widom to centre back

Any thoughts?

Anonymous woolback

Just the one thought A W - that's nearly a full team you've listed there!
Haha.
The Juicer

We don't need to sign the "best" in each of these positions - a few solid understudies and 1/2 true superstars would be my choice. Hope we can entice Erikson or find another Coutinho.

Sounds like a new team

Exactly, showing how many players we actually need to be competitive.

Anonymous woolback

But we don't need to spend to break top 4 says Brendan!- because it's all going so well!

Why is it that every time we don't win a game the Rodgers out brigade come back? Listen Rodgers is going nowhere! We could easily have won that about 5-0 if it wasn't for McCarthy. We created chances, played great football and were extremely unlucky not to win it. That has nothing to do with Rodgers. He puts the team out and expects a performance. If Downing had of started and played badly you lot would be calling for Rodgers head for not starting Sturridge. Yes it wasn't our best performance and the passing wasn't exactly up to scratch but it was one of those games where our luck wasn't in. We hit the post, had a shot cleared off the line and on the day it was the goalkeeper that stopped us winning the game. If people can't see improvement in the team we have now compared to the team at the start of the season you really need to get your head checked. You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that, but I just feel as if people are over-reacting a little. Yes we could of scored a few if we were more clinical but we created chances which is the main thing. But instead of blaming our players, praise Alex McCarthy and Chris Gunter for keeping Reading in it. Again just my opinion and I respect others opinions but being realistic, it will take years to get us back to the top. I can understand people's frustration as we should be beating teams like Reading and West Ham which I can understand but sacking Rodgers would just set us back another year. Maybe its just I'm willing to wait. But in my opinion we are improving.

Like I said I respect others opinions and I know its frustrating but I'm willing to wait. Sorry for the long post.
Cheers,
LS7.

Think the whole point is could have!

Its always could have, should have!

Strategically we were fine - didn't we get piles of shots in? Not Rodgers' fault if strikers won't finish/keepers make countless match-winning saves. I think most can see this.

How can two nil nil draws be an improvement, keep hearing its the post, keepers playing there heart out against use bla bla bla.

Stop being silly now every body including me.

Yes we are rubbish. So what i'll still support the club, anyways my point is that we need to stop expecting 4th, stop blaming players/managers.

Most Important of all just get behind the team regardless of the result.

That's what I've been doing anyways
Sorry about the moan haha take care

Bil

Could have was mentioned once. Could have won 5-0. How could we have won 5-0? Because we created chances but we just weren't clinical. So I would actually think about what you are saying before you say it buddy!
Cheers,
LS7.

I want to agree with the OP but I am a bit fed up of hearing that when we win its because of the manager yet when we lose its because of the players.
When all is said and done the buck stops with Rodgers (no pun intended)

A lot of the games last season were the same, in my opinion Rodgers has a massive Ego, maybe it's him I just can't take too.

I agree with the last bit Bil that everyone should get behind the team. We are hardly rubbish though, we just weren't clinical. We beat Norwich and Swansea 5-0, Wigan 4-0, Sunderland 3-0, and Spurs 3-2 since the turn of the year so we are far from rubbish. We have lacked goals the past couple of games but we have scored 59 goals so far this season which is the 4th highest total in the league. You are just being silly basing our performance in the second half of the season on 2 games which we didn't even lose. Our style of play, our wage bill, our goal tally, our points tally, player performances (Henerson, Downing, Enrique). All have improved this season and nobody can say this isn't improvement.
Cheers,
LS7.

I respect your opinion lads. I personally feel he has confidence rather than an ego but that's your opinion and I respect it. Chris I agree that the manager is responsible but he is not responsible for the team not scoring goals. He put out a fairly attacking team and expects them players to score. And when we do win, most of the Rodgers out brigade have something to complain about. I'm not saying praise Rodgers no matter what happens but not everything is his fault. If we lose like the West Brom, Villa or Arsenal games earlier in the season then fingers may rightly be pointed at Rodgers because the overall performance was bad, but games like today when we played well but weren't clinical and it happens. Like I said its your opinion and I respect it mate.

By the way anyone seeing the riots at the Wigan/Millwall game? Disgraceful, especially in front of the kids, ruining the occasion for the youngsters.
Cheers,
LS7.

13 Apr 2013 19:29:31
there was no urgency in our play. rodgers is responsible for motivating players and making changes. he just never uses his full substitution. next season if we don't have the budget to bring top players we should go for an experience manager because it makes a hell lot of difference just look at malaga for example.

Malaga spent a hell of a lot of money to get into that situation though. In fairness they have sold a lot because of their financial situation but the money is what got them there. Secondly I don't feel experience makes a hell of a lot of difference I mean look at the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Michael Laudrup, Rafa Benitez (Liverpool), Andre Villas-Boas, Pep Guardiola. All young managers who have experienced a fair amount of success already. I feel Rodgers will come good as a manager. Whether it is at Liverpool or not I'm not sure but he has what it takes to be a top manager.
Cheers,
LS7.

Exactly poster above fear of a good apse kicking ain't always bad if valid criticism

13 Apr 2013 17:44:25
Stop talking about "Rodgers out" you stupid fans. People saying Rodgers got his tactics wrong and everything like that is just stupid. We dominated the whole game and you're saying we are a pathetic team? Our strikers and forwards just couldn't score. Get mad at them not the manager. It seems like none of you are getting mad at Suarez even when he missed many chances. We are going to rebuild in the summer and Rodgers is hear for another season at least so u better get used to him or else its going to be another long year for you. Two cleans sheets in the row and let's look forward to chelsea.

13 Apr 2013 19:47:33
Rogers looked at the bench 15 times for a game changer.
all he could see was some midfielders. who could do nothing.
we don't have a proper bench to introduce.

I wonder who picked the players to be subs, BR would want to have a word with that man, tell him to get a grip.

13 Apr 2013 17:42:04
Yep we played another team off the park. yep a keeper had a blinder again. blah blah blah. Results count in any league not performances. I heard Simon Whitlock had a good game against Phil Taylor the other week. got beat though so who cares?!.
Dont understand fans mentality on here with all this Rodgers bias. I don't agree with replacing managers every 5 minutes to be fair but we're so tactically naive its unreal. If he wants to quote Dortmund then maybe he should look how they fired the ball long into the box in the last 5 minutes against Malaga in the week. Ugly often grabs the points. Sorry boys but i'm not happy with just saying the keeper was awesome. yeah he was but if the strikers were better than that then they would have had him beat. very poor sorry
YNWA JFT96

If you didn't see we stuck the ball in box repeatedly in the last 10 too - sometimes it gets results sometimes it doesn't.

Just rewatch the performance today and imagine every other word class save that keeper made went in the net - you'd be raving about how potent we were in creative play and how incisive the passing was.

Yes, if the strikers were better - HOW is that Rodgers' fault?

How is it Rodgers fault that Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard all missed must-score chances? Rodgers "tactically naive" team had 26 shots, 14 of which were on target.

Is you want to blame somebody, which is what you want to do, win, lose or draw, blame Suarez, Sturridge and Gerrard for not finishing their chances.

The real AG

13 Apr 2013 19:38:22
its rodgers fault why did he only brought downing shelvey, suso, assaidi were on the bench if things are not working out why not bring on new players at least they will be fresh. we could have used suso creativity in this match but I have been saying this for quite some time now I don't know why suso is not used so much.
if mourinho was in a similar situation he would have taken off some defender for an attacking player like suso or shelvey.

Reckon the special one would have sent on two subs before halftime, one of them being Suso,
redforever

How's it Rodgers fault? He bought Sturridge. He decides tactics and positional side

Malak - just wanted to say I enjoy your posts, keep up the good work.

No Stokesy they won't be a memory because season in season out same unpredictable story. they'll beat Chelsea draw v Everton but lose to Newcastle and Qpr

13 Apr 2013 17:38:36
Think we need to change how we attack. We should not be crossing the ball in to our forwards from the wings, Suarez and Sturridge are both awful headers of the ball. We need to keep the ball low when crossing it rather than hoofing it only for a 6ft 4 defender to head it away. Think we do much better when we take the short corners.

I think you answered your own critism in this post - we only seem to "cross" from corners - and remember we had two outstanding chances from free headers doing that. In open play the wing backs and wide players tend to cut in or lay the ball off - when they do drive to the bi-line a cut-back is the usual pass.

Personally i've always been a fan of the driven ball below waist hieght from wide positions but we're not set-up to do that at present so i'm more than happy seeing downing, henderson, johnson and enrique continue passing in from those positions.

13 Apr 2013 17:35:49
Can't believe its happened 2 weeks in a row.

Suarez has gone way off the boil. Hopefully that's just form. He seems to be trying hard enough.

We need a proper AM ASAP so Suarez can concentrate on being a striker.

Eriksen/Marythikan is a must. We don't sign someone of this calibre next season is going down the same road.

And now is probably the time to try some things. For one game, play Suso as the AMC. I'm dying to see it. Maybe not against Chelsea but if Chelsea get a draw or win against us, what stopping from having a look at Suso in the AMC. When he's played there he's been outstanding (Anzhi and Young boys).

So so disappointed. We can say Mcarthy was outstanding which he was, but the shots are not of the right standard.

Some will say its rodgers fault. I say my gran would have finished some of those chances. We need top players to come into this club in the summer. Please deliver Rodgers.

Davey sulls

Those kind of players won't want to come to anfield

Coutinho

Suarez is only human and can only go on carrying the rest of the team on his back for so long.

Davey, the problems go a bit deeper than an attacking midfielder, and yes its so hard to watch us play against teams we should beat home and away, your so right, we should be giving game time for the likes of Suso, and BR should have brought on a 2nd sub, nothing to lose, last two games, just show were we are right now, not a chance on top six never mind top four.

13 Apr 2013 17:34:18
On the bright side, we did not allow a goal for the second straight game.

Sturridge looking like he is already bored playing for us. Johnson too. I think they both know season is over and couldn't give a hoot.

BR: play the youth players. Atleast they have something to prove.

Seems like to me it's one or the other. Frustrating arrg

Did you actually watch the match at all?
Utter rubbish.

West Brom - Liverpool 3-0
Liverpool - Aston Villa 1-3
Liverpool - Newcastle 1-1
Swansea - Liverpool 0-0
Stoke - Liverpool 3-1
Liverpool - West Brom 0-2
Southampton - Liverpool 3-1
Liverpool - West Ham 0-0
Reading - Liverpool 0-0

Points -> 4pts

We can turn these around next season, and that's another 20 or so points.

Look back over seasons same old if but maybe when next season blah blah

13 Apr 2013 17:30:32
Let me guess everyone's going to want Alex McCarthy as GK.

Also Carroll would have had a hat trick out there today!

Yeah, because Carroll is constantly scoring hatricks, I mean, he was an absolute goal machine when he played for us right?

So you're actually implying that Andy Carroll could of done what Luis Suarez couldn't? gimme a break, what a ridiculous post

Luis, sturridge, gerrard and coutinho could have had hatricks today too - maybe even Morientes and Babel. Just didn't come off!

Carroll Scored for West Ham today

It was sarcasm. after games like this the doom mongers come out of the woodwork

Post above-too many games like this!

13 Apr 2013 17:27:59
Sorry but anyone who is thinking that we didn't score today only because Reading's keeper had a blinder is deluded. Yes the keeper played well but with the number of chances we had, we should have scored at least one. Had it been a team like Utd or City, they would have won that game by a landslide with the same Number of chances we created!

The problem is that other than Suarez, no one can score regularly. Sturridge is out of form and looks worse everytime is see him play. He should have scored in the first half, clean through from Suarez's pass and yet he hesitates and allows them to get a block in. top strikers would have put that in!

The point I am getting at is that some fans always find an excuse for Liverpool either not playing well or not scoring against the lower placed teams.

The fact is that sometimes we just ain't good enough, and it shows how far this team needs to go before it can compete with the any of the top 5/6 teams in EPL.

Sturridge needs to be dropped so that Suarez can play to his strength rather than him accommodating him. We can kiss Europe next season goodbye and that will just show how much work is needed to get us where we should be.

Until then, expect this team to continue to frustrate the hell out of you as whilst we have a great history, our present situation is what matters and that isn't looking good. let's hope we can get some players in who will be able to unlock opposition teams' defences.

A very frustrated reds fan!

Like a broken record some people.

All the time its just one of them days. How many days do we have, it seems to be everyday for the past 2 years.

End of the the day we can have 100% of the ball but if we can't get 1 goal it means nothing.

Is BR the man to take us forward, i'm not sure? We have always found it hard to beat the lower so called teams. But now we don't seem to beat the higher teams also.

I think the review at the end of the season will be intresting. If I was BR I would be worried.

Yorksred

Wow - up until a few months ago the broken record was we couldn't beat teams in the top half of the division - now its the bottom 5 or something??

There's nothing broken at Liverpool, a new manager is in a transitional period - his changes have meant a more sucessful 2nd half to the season.

Stay the course and don't react to a negative press.

Brendan Rodgers cannot be blamed for our last two games.
His tactics stopped us from conceding goals.
His tactics have us creating many chances to score.
His tactics meant we deserved to win both of those games.
The blame falls on the players, not putting away chances.

You would expect as a minimum not to conceded goals against these teams, even though they should of scored. anyway this is not good enough for a lfc manager to have us in the position we are in after spending £60mil. simply not good enough. RedTurk

Excuse makers really?-West Ham And Reading ffs get real!

If you want success you beat these teams 90% of time no excuses -simple

13 Apr 2013 17:20:23
So fustrated and why Johnson and Enrique are not playing too well and still on the pitch I don't know, I THINK Rodgers should not name players on the bench if there is no need for substitutions.

13 Apr 2013 17:19:44
Their keeper obviously made a few good saves but I can think of at least five chances where we hit it straight at him from right in front of the goal. Why do our players just get try to hit it as hard as they can aimlessly? Why can't they just slide it in bottom corner like all the other teams' forwards do? So frustrating. It feels exactly like last season again, that there's nothing to play for and we're just going through the motions. At this rate we are going to finish at least 10 points behind everton.

Hounsred {Ed001's Note - be glad we don't have Gervinho, if you think our finishing is bad!}

We had at least 4 Gervinho's out there today, shooting straight at the goalkeeper does not win matches! couldn't score in a brothel! {Ed001's Note - don't talk soft. Gervinho was falling over his own feet and missing by a mile, at least our strikers hit the target, that gives them a chance of scoring.}

13 Apr 2013 17:11:49
Not a good result but the amount of chances we had it could have been 3 4 5-0. Just one of those days which we have seen many times before. Looks like we'll finish 7th now which I feel might be a blessing in disguise so we can concentrate on champions league qualification next year without any Europa league distracting us
Bilverstone

You still don't get it do you? We are not Europa League standard let alone Champions League standard.

13 Apr 2013 17:50:17
this so called. one of the days. is repeating most week.

Not Europa standard, look at the spirt of the club when we played zenit at home,

What's the spirit at the club have to do with it? Spirit does not make the players any better.

13 Apr 2013 16:58:56
eds am I right in thinking that Liverpool would have to finish 5th in order to get into the europa league. 1 place taken by 5th, 1 by league cup winners and 1 by winners/runners-up of fa cup. its almost certain man c and chelsea r going to qualify for CL. Is there a chance of milwall/wigan rejecting the chance of playing in the europa league? {Ed001's Note - why would they?}

13 Apr 2013 16:55:57
Any of you eds if you could shed your opinion. What do you think our problem is? I think we lack maturity in the final third. {Ed001's Note - what problem? You mean not scoring? Just happens sometimes, the time to worry is when chances are not being created.}

Bang on Ed and that hasn't been many games we haven't created chances this season!
Cheers,

13 Apr 2013 17:09:29
every game is like a cup final what a joke passing and finishing once again awful b rodgers should give each player a slap for that performance mick dublin

They need bit of fear because look at times like-oh well, always next week attitude

13 Apr 2013 17:09:07
Anyone who watched that should come away happy - sure it's a frustrating draw but we played good football, unlocked another 2 banks of 4 defence over and over and got to witness the best keeping performance I can ever think of (not even 2nd to Shaka Hislop at Anfield in the 2-0 years ago).

We're 1 or 2 impact players away from getting back to the level we were Rafa's second to last season.

Unlucky Reds!

So we should be happy now to give reading their first point in 9 games?

what has happened to this once great club.

Funny we always bring out the best in oposition keppers.

Cant be the fact we can't get goals

Well roll on transfer window!

13 Apr 2013 17:08:35
Andy Carroll has scored more in the past few games than our entire team

Yes, and Luis Suarez has scored more goals this season than Andy Carroll has in his entire career.

Not too sure what your point is?

He would have been a good option coming off the bench this afternoon

Ngoo would be a better option

13 Apr 2013 17:05:48
Well BR has said he doesn't want Europa and I fail to see how we have improved at all. Maybe the players need competition as I don't see anyone of them playing for the shirt. No movement in the box, coupled by poor finishing. I'm just so fed up with Liverpool.

13 Apr 2013 17:04:15
Pathetic, embarrassing, slack, useless, total and utter disgrace that we didn't win that game. Some of our players need to have a good look at themselves, Sturridge and Johnson mainly. How many chances does a team need? Not having the crap that's going to come in the media about brave Reading etc. they got walloped and it's only down to ourselves yet again why we didn't win. What we saw today is exactly the reason why we won't finish top four which is a poor mental attitude, we were at times so slack it was unbelievable. Very very very frustrated.
Jud.

Johnson has been awful for a couple of months now. Really frustrating to watch.

13 Apr 2013 17:00:32
The young oppo keeper MoM.
One of them days.
We're saving all our goals for Chelsea and Everton though :-)
The Juicer

13 Apr 2013 17:19:42
Mate you do understand its really hurting the club, results like this are the reason why we are stuck in midtable, I'm sure our owners will be really happy beating chelsea and finishing midtable with no europe and behind everton.

This things have been going since last year when kenny was our manager infact we have gone backwards, the season is there for everyone to see.

Liverpool break with much more pace and in Coutinhio, in particular, with more creativity too than last season. I don't know if you went to any matches away last year but it was like watching the tide come in, it was so ponderous. We butchered a few break-aways today and Gerrard was a bit off but, as I said, one of them days!
The Juicer

13 Apr 2013 16:59:56
Rodgers can't improve LFC. No experience to move the team forward.

Allan. waste of money
Sturridge. waste of money

We need a lethal striker like Rushie.

He's already improved:
Our wage bill
Our style of play
Player perfomances (Hendo, Downing, Suarez)
Our goal tally is more than last season
Our points tally is more than last season

And he's done all this in his first year with a poorer squad than last season. So please don't give me that BS that we haven't improved.

I think Rushie my be past it

Apples '96'

Wow, ya know you should be the manager, havin great insight and football knowledge like that.

Did ya hear that Rodgers, you're usless, all ya need to do is go out and buy a striker like Ian Rush,,, easy

Well we haven't improved our league ambition, have we?

13 Apr 2013 16:59:56
Finishing was abismal but seriously, why does every keeper we go agianst have an absolute blinder. Clearly still lacking that clinical finisher.

13 Apr 2013 17:13:20
we don't have composure on finishing. shooting hard on keeper.

Lacking a clinical striker! suarez is the top goalscorer in the league what more do you want

Yea but you need more than one player you need 4/5 players in double figures

13 Apr 2013 16:58:31
Just one of those days really

Absolutely no use for any fan to be calling for Rodgers head,

We had 26 shots today, So Rodger's tactics and philosphy are clearly working. It is not him that means that our players and/or their keeper cannot put the ball in the net,

Only critisicm of Rodgers would be that another substitution, perhaps Assaidi towards the end for Coutinho, would have given us some freshness in the dying minutes

Disheartened but nevertheless faithfull
SR

Wrong. it's entirely BRs fault, did you see how lazy our players were, no spirit anymore!

Also, that killer mentality is what a manager should be instilling into his players. Look what laudrup did to swansea, added that clinical edge.

also the 26 shots flatters us a bit, I saw both suarez and sturridge attempt to score from over 40 yards, ludicrious.

13 Apr 2013 17:37:01
Are you new to the site? Have you forgotten that this problems are going on since last year and still Rodgers have failed to fix it.

Footy is all about results excuses after excuses don't fix the problem neither moves you foward, now we will miss europe and everton will finish above us even after spending 60M how embarrassing is this and how hard will it be to attract quality players without europe,

Don't get me wrong I'm all for Rodgers and love his style but at the end of the day footy is all about results and he has to produce it or else I'm afraid.

13 Apr 2013 16:58:30
I was at Anfield last week and have just watched the Reading game and I can't help but feel if we had scored one of the early opportunities in both games we could have scored 8/9/10 goals in the two matches!

Frustrating game today, we did everything right, but their keeper was a brick wall for them, one of the best keeping displays i've seen in a while!

Passing was a little off, but some of our passages of play were stunning. Unlucky once again.

Cheers

ToonRed

Agree with most of that but we have to take responsibility as well, 26 shots =no goals! we are missing something! a quality ruthless composed striker, but will we pay the money for one?

Too red but we didn't!-maybe even if but what if

13 Apr 2013 16:58:17
Typical another game where the opposite keeper has a blinder

Roadrunner

Thats what they are paid to do! Do you think keepers only have two good games a season?

13 Apr 2013 18:00:58
They seem too, and always against us.

I know they are paid to do that you muppet, what i'm saying is a few games this season the opposite keeper has pulled off save after save and been super human in goal.

13 Apr 2013 16:57:52
Before anyone starts slagging off BR and his players, can I just say that if that keeper plays that well again in his lifetime I will be amazed. He won them a point single handedly. The chances we had they could (could, not should) have been dead and buried at half time. That's 2 weeks that we have had "one of them days" - move on to the next match and hopefully put it behind us.

13 Apr 2013 16:57:39
This is what happens when you waste money on average players. Surely he should suffer the same fait Kenny did in the boston meeting at the end of the season. No goals in 180 mins that is useless. We could not be futher from the top 4 if we tried. Reading are second bottom if BR can't beat them he should be sacked. Its not like he ain't spent money.

Frustrating again today, sums it up when their keeper gets man of the match. Unfortunately we're not getting Europa spot and everything is just preparation for next Season at this stage, it's crap I know, but that's the way it is.

Oh, and if we're going to come on here and just say, "Rodgers Out", (which is ridiculous after only 1 season) atleast leave something constructive and half intelligent and point out who's available and who who'd like to see take over then?

Yeah not scoring in 2 games is pretty frustrating, but is it a sackable offence, of course not, calm down. Their keeper did get man of the match, you can't blame the manager for no goals today.

So who's available to replace Rodgers then, who would you get in if you were the chairman? Please leave some kind of constructive opinion

Even though we have been toothless last two games, and maybe again in the remaining games, I, would not replace Rodgers, but give him a No 2, not a yes man tho, who will tell him when he is making a major mistake, such as a two man midfield against four in southampton, when he should be bringing on a sub to lift the tempo, right now BR needs to rest a couple of senior players who are just not getting out of third gear. redforever

I think that's best sensible considered option poster above

13 Apr 2013 16:57:03
What a load of rubbish - fair play their keeper made some world class saves but we played as if the season is already over - soooo frustrating - think apart from Reina they should all lose a weeks pay and give it to a children's Charity.

These guys are playing our dreams - what would we give to play for Liverpool if only just to run on the pitch in that shirt for just one minute - and then we have to suffer a performance like that - if any of them who played today say they want to leave because we are not in Europe should be shown the door

Never been so angry and felt let down by team

Codswallop mate - they played just fine and came up against a keeper in amazing form. Not one player stopped chasing the game for our side and a performance like that would normally be a 3 or 4 goal win. Gutted but glad to have seen a fantastic performance by a keeper.

Reina made some good saves too, let's not forget that.

Disney!

Think we are going to have to agree to disagree - buts that the fun of this site, people can disagree without getting silly

Respect Phil - we'll celebrate together next week!

13 Apr 2013 19:21:55
Reina made 2 saves! What a joke you are Disney!
A fair result in that match was 6-1 to Liverpool!

13 Apr 2013 19:51:06
i am sorry dude from crewe. Your post is rubbish, the performance was actually very very good. How else do you think we created so many chances? please please share. we played so bad that we had 20 real goal scoring chances? come on, get real. if the performance was bad their keeper would have never been selected MOM, or the commentators saying something like, I have been commenting on the game for 40 years but never in my lifetime seen a Goalkeeping performance of this calibare.
For god sake, he held suarez shot from sturridge header!
What? no rebound? impossible save!

Malak

Phil, got to agree with most of your post, its so hard to watch them play without any conviction, so many passes going astray, we should have scored at least five goals, should have got three last week, but we didnt, and it looks like a bad finish to the season, sorry but that's the way it looks to me, and I have been following our great team for over forty five years. redforever

13 Apr 2013 16:56:06
Why not use more then one sub and give some youth a chance like suso? were not going to get anywhere anyway

13 Apr 2013 16:55:47
absolutely fuming!! we had plenty of chances to win that one! to be fair readings keeper was immense today but even so, we had more than enough chances to put the game to bed! rant over
Not popping about the manager or players in particular. just venting. BR is still the right man for the job. we need more options from the bench though to change the game when its not going our way. why not keep Carroll?! he's something we don't have and we could use his aerial prowess in some games where counter attacks are't the plan

It was pathetic no killer instinct. They looked like they did not care

Same old Yvonne but Malek and co on here are happy and think we're World beaters in the making

13 Apr 2013 16:55:44
How frustrating, we are absolutely battering Readinh but still can't score!

Biggy Ballz

13 Apr 2013 16:55:08
It's just been one of those days for the lads, we've done everything right except for score, their keeper has been magnificent, it's unfortunate that this kind of thing has happened to us a lot this season but let's try and remain positive, two clean sheets in a row, and hopefully some quality additions in the summer.
DT

We we haven't done everything right have we. We haven't scored and in football that is kind of the aim

Maybe I should make it clearer for you - we we have done everything right apart from score.

Onion Bag Fellas NOT EXCUSES!

13 Apr 2013 16:55:03
Good Afternoon Eds and Reds, two words today. VERY POOR.

13 Apr 2013 16:54:57
So then. Rodgers out?

Alves

Agree .

13 Apr 2013 16:54:48
yes i'm here to bad mouth Liverpool

so what. I can do it. i'm a fan. I've paid to watch

i just can't understand it. I don't see badluck coming into it

we are just not potent. and when we are. its just one of those days. its random. because every team in the league can have that type of day.

so we belong in mid-table because we are rubbish and average with 2 world class players
thats it

i don't even know why we are even hopeful for next year. because what will change. maybe 2 more over priced rubbish youngsters we will pay for. then add a manager who is tactically immature

r u b b I s h

13 Apr 2013 16:54:48
First time saying this rodgers has to go and go now garbage he standing there with no clue watsoever FSG do the right thing get rid he is clueless and no its not jus this game his been giving time but no plan B oh and to add into the mix big andy strikes again JON96

13 Apr 2013 16:54:45
We are a complete joke. Seriously we need to wake up and realise what a mid table team we are.

Neil

13 Apr 2013 16:54:05
no denying readings keeper had a good game but nevertheless we should have won that comfortably with all the chances and wasted opportunities.

13 Apr 2013 16:53:43
hard luck to Liverpool. On any other day 5-0 easy :)
Good performance.

We need to sign their Gk, would be a serious upgrade on Brad Jones :)

Malak

Agree with every word, that keeper dines out on that performance for life!

Another result down to opposing keeper!-Could it not possibly be poor finishing with that many chances?!

13 Apr 2013 16:53:27
That is why we are where we are folks, just can't do it week in week out, can't play crap and get win, like the top teams do, fluffy football, does not work all the time, some times it has to be ugly, but you get the points

Someone NEEDS to GET THAT through to Brendan!

13 Apr 2013 16:53:15
Reading has lost their last 8 games before this match!

They didn't have that guy in net!

Yea one guy in goal makes ALL the difference dohhh

13 Apr 2013 16:52:53
Before the whining starts - think on. The keeper has played a blinder. I'd like us to win every week but that can't happen so live with it you miserable non-supporters.

Gazman

Gazman-caling fans "non supporters" because they are unhappy with the performance is a stupid comment, and not all fans are blinkered, we are entitled to voice our unhappiness, if you want to be blind you carry on mate!
if I see a crap display that's what it will be called! were entitled to our opinion, doesn't mean we don't love the club.

At last, the majority of the fans starting to see sense. This guy ain't good enough.

13 Apr 2013 16:52:37
We've got to buy Reading keeper in the summer.

Its that trial of thought what puts u where u are, one players has 1 good game against u and now u should sign him up lol
Chris the REDman

I agree with Chris - it's that knee jerk reaction that saw us pay 10M for the waste of shirt that was Charlie Adam.

That said I wouldn't mind paying a million so we never have to see him in goal against us today. By the end of the game it had become pyshcological - we were never going to beat him.

We bought Carroll knee jerk and other carp not again! Access over months not a game

13 Apr 2013 16:50:13
Daniel Sturridge been very poor today, needs to work harder and run harder on the pitch. Not impressed today.

Blaz

Interestingly I thought Danny was back to his early form for us today. The link up with Luis was back, he made some good runs, the dummies were good too and (new aspect from what I've seen) drove at defenders with the ball at his feet a few times.

I can't deny some of his finishing was wayward and wasteful - but it was back in that run of games in January too. If that second half chance off the corner beat their keeper I think both our fans and the wider press would have been talking about his return to form.

Hes lazy was last week too

13 Apr 2013 16:50:02
Liverpool fc

What can I say. Except frustration and
A club that badly needs better players

We all say the same thing
But know it can happen

Sucks really

I swear next year will be exactly the same

Pete

13 Apr 2013 16:47:35
same old story nothing has changed since last year.
Big JC

Yeah but last year we won a trophy

13 Apr 2013 16:46:48
You lot talk Bollox - if it wasn't for the keeper we could've had 5.

Gazman

Or maybe we need to buy someone who can put it in the net?

Crowman.

Shoulda woulda coulda. its the result that counts, keeper shouldn't be given a chance.

piss poor display from Liverpool today

What was the excuse last week, west ham where too good at parking the bus but we still should have won. There are no excuses in this league, we didn't win because certain players were woefully wasteful. We had no cutting edge, superior teams take advantage early in these types of games but we act as if we have the whole game to ourselves. Mentality like that almost lost us this match but nevertheless we are once again embarresed by a relegated team. We are unfortunantly a midtable team. I expect a response againt chelsea and everton (meaning at least a win and a draw). If not then rogers is in real trouble, as he should be. he is no different from kenny and should be held accountable for these sort of results.

That's like saying if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

13 Apr 2013 16:46:31
if glen gets any worse he mite as well be the 12th man for the other team ffs

13 Apr 2013 16:45:00
Holy pathetic. Why does every keeper magically have a career game against us?

13 Apr 2013 16:44:33
i can't believe this is about to end 0-0. southampton beat us 3-1, reading and west ham goaless. We've been out of all competetions for a long time now and we cannot take advantage. If rogers had a philosophy to implement, surely it would have been in full throttle by now. Why the hell do these keepers only perform against us. I bet any other team would have scored 3 or 4 of those shot that we took but its like we have a curse on us. I sometimes hate Liverpool. this is one of those days

13 Apr 2013 16:44:14
Suarez must be knackerd, he should have been rested for the Hammers and reading games, no wonder he has struggled the last few weeks, agree we need another striker, so we have the 3 recognised ones

Suarez goes beserk when he gets subbed at 85 mins in a 4-0 drubbing of a lower league team - would you rest him when the rest of Europe is ready to take him from us??

13 Apr 2013 16:43:58
Alex McCarthy has decided to have blinder today! Keeping Reading in it!
Cheers,
LS7.

Alex McCarty is a nobody and will be forgotten about tomorrow morning. I'm glad Reading will go down.

13 Apr 2013 16:43:46
Suarez is so good he's unbelievable.

13 Apr 2013 16:43:23
We make the Reading keeper look world class.

Limpy

No, he was world class today

No - HE made himself look world class.

13 Apr 2013 16:43:07
I swear other team get their robot clone keeper out whenever they play us. So frustrating!

Crowman.

13 Apr 2013 16:42:50
This is a disgrace - selfish players not bothered.

Play for the fans, the shirt, the club.
Unbelievable - not even trying.

Disgraceful.

M

Are you having a mare, since when are they not even trying. ?

This team jusu isn't good enough. Sturridge needs a real heaircut as he is no star. Lucas not good enough. We need some quality replacemenst in the off season.

13 Apr 2013 16:37:32
Terrible display from us again so far today

RedLee

13 Apr 2013 16:37:02
This is awful now, it's no wonder we can't finish top four when we can't even beat this terrible Reading side.

13 Apr 2013 16:32:54
No passion in this Liverpool side, no sense of urgency, nothing.

Those faults go to the manager; whatever he tells these players before half time, its not working.

Something new please, or are we going to accept midtable for another 3 years?

Shocked by Sturridges performance. No passion whatsoever. laughs at his missed opportunities. You can see how distraught Suarez is when we lose.

13 Apr 2013 16:32:34
Anybody else hear what the Reading fans are singing. disgusted!

No what?
Paul the red

13 Apr 2013 16:30:33
well our players are doing their utmost to frick this one up, Reading are there for the taking. Lots of mistakes creeping in now.

13 Apr 2013 16:25:41
Mid match and I'm commenting. Not got anything against the way we are playing. Playing at ease and could be few goals up. Whilst play is good we appear to be a little too laid back. We need to be bit more awake as they could easily nick a goal.
Despite pressure we are not winning lads. Stay focused please.

Oh and my one issue is corners. What's the point of us having them. We are shocking. Rubbish delivery and no one on the end

13 Apr 2013 16:24:17
That's a world class save from pep that's why we should keep him

13 Apr 2013 16:19:33
How is Johnson still on the field?
Woeful.

13 Apr 2013 16:17:33
0-0 written all over this. hope i'm wrong but our passing hasn't been anywhere near as good this week.

So did West Brom at home, be careful what you wish for.

13 Apr 2013 15:53:37
I think we are playing well, their goalkeeper has made a few good saves, we could be 3. 0 up. We will see a goal or 2 in the second half and I hope it is a pool win. kls

13 Apr 2013 15:51:57
What the hell. 12 shots to 1. all over them stilk no goal to show. somehow we got to get goal. their goalkeeper made at 3 world class saves. typical story no goals compared to our play.

Harry Oldbury

13 Apr 2013 15:50:32
seen the line up and thought great 433 line up.
cant understand why hendo is being asked to play on the left of a 4231. makes no sense and the team looks unbalanced. while I know we should have scored a more structured and balanced 433 with the players involved would see us completely batter reading.

13 Apr 2013 15:49:30
Speechless. I just don't understand how we can possibly be this unlucky.

13 Apr 2013 15:49:27
Starting to wonder if LFC ever practice corners, we're wasting sooooo many of them!

HK

13 Apr 2013 15:43:01
I can see clearly that the players know there's nothing to play for.

Big al

They are supposed to play to win

Play for professional pride play for fans who spend fortunes following them. that's why I feel their NOT Motivated under this guy

13 Apr 2013 15:41:50
Reading 0 Liverpool 0

While over in Germany Borussia Dortmund are 5 -0 up after 60 mins

Limpy

And Berwick are 4-1 against Queens Park up in Scotland. Your point being?

13 Apr 2013 15:40:38
God we look average again today. Irritating to watch tbh. Everyone looks poor tbh.

13 Apr 2013 15:37:53
How many chances do we need before we can score a goal?

Limpy

There isn't a number unfortunately

13 Apr 2013 15:05:18
All you can hear is out away fans singing, wish we had more of these lads at Anfield.

always a red

Is anyone else suffering from deja vu? If the lads can do the same again though i'm sure a goal will come, really hope Suso gets some game time before he starts to question weather Liverpool is the club for him.

always a red

13 Apr 2013 15:04:42
hi Eds
just wanna fill u in Reds, last night I had dream. In that dream we thrashed Reading and scored five. Suarez and sturridge scored, and I just saw that he's starting. Hmmmmm strange

Go Reds

Judging by the first half. not going to happen. Why do players get paid so much money when they can't perform half the time. Suarez has been inaffective for 3/4 games now.

13 Apr 2013 14:29:08
Team for today look's really good, Sturridge in for Downing. Wouldn't play a rigid 433 but more of a.
4, 1, 2, 1, 2.

433 much less rigid than a 41212.

13 Apr 2013 14:12:00
Hi Eds,
can you please make a list of most interesting players who will be free agents in the summer? Thanks. {Ed001's Note - if you go on the website transfermarkt.com, you can do a search in their search filter for players out of contract in the summer.}

13 Apr 2013 15:00:55
I expect nothing less than a win today but IF we are losing at half time just support them until the end and we will see what happens after 90 mins. COME ON BOYS

13 Apr 2013 13:40:32
Ok Liverpudians, I have a question for you. Would you sell Enrique if a decent offer comes for him?

If not then why?

I will because he is very inconsistent & sometimes looks like he just had a lobotomy. Just has 5 decent months with us rest of it was utter disappointing. Infact Johnson plays better at LB.

This is just hypothetical. If you don't agree then please respond in a civil manner. no need to abuse.
Musicnation.

Enrique has 5 assists to Johnson's 2 this season. He's been more offensively influential and also been more consistent than him IMO. His ball retention is better than johnsons as well as him managing his defensive responsibilities. I wouldn't even be talking about selling Enrique personally, we need to retain as much defensively as possible with the exits this summer.

13 Apr 2013 14:49:34
if ashley Williams is signed by rogers, most likely he will be VICE CAPTAIN as carrigger is leaving and he was vice captain. He was captain under rogers so another reason rogers might sign him.
Dont slate him his stats are in the top five in the bpl for defenders, we can never know, but stefan savic would be perfect, against englend he was aazing for montenegro

13 Apr 2013 13:30:52
Liverpool: Have had more shots (611) than any other team in Europe's top 5 leagues this season, ahead of Real Madrid (582) & Juventus (577)

If anyone still thinks we don't need a clinical striker then they have to go & see a doctor.

Musicnation

Superb!

13 Apr 2013 13:22:06
I was just thinking we seem to have cover at right back and need a winger. people say johnson can't defend. why not give him a go further foward and either use Kelly/Wisdom at right back. even if both are to be moved to CB people on here say defenders are cheeper than attackers. Ryan Mcloughlan (Spelling) is on the way up. even a decent cheeper/older player could be got as a stop gap. What would your opinion be
IRISHRED1995

Johno is an attacking right back, he's no winger!

Johnson's been pretty poor going forward lately though I feel he doesn't make quick enough decisions and loses the ball to often besides his screamer at Chelsea I think Enrique's been a better wing back to be honest since he found his form again.

Et

13 Apr 2013 12:43:06
BR wants to copy dortmund, anyone who saw last tuesdays match against malaga would agree that malaga should have won. dortmund a few good players gotze being one of them, we should look at ourselves dortmund might sell 2/3 players and they be average. we need to spend our money more wisely, spending our budget on allen borini sahin and assaidi and last year players are making the difference. for 15mil you buy a better player than allen and for 11 mil there are better strikers than borini. anyone who ever played football would agree that defending carroll is a nightmare, we had several matches this season were he could have been useful. we need 1 central defender 1 creative midfielder and 1 winger all 3 need to be starters. there is no sence on buying assaidi for 3 mil and never play him and send carroll on loan for 1mil and save a few million wages that we spend on assaidi. if we kept carroll we would have been in the top 4 or very close we needed a player like him in certain matches that we drew or lost, at least for the last 25min. BR made several mistakes first it was enrique he played downing left back. skrtl was a worldclass defender 4 mounths ago now he changed his mind. he brought in allen that in attacking team can't make a goal he has no shot. we made more than 80 goals in all comp allen made 2 goals. all the big teams copied ajax scouting system at least they are trying too. ajax system works on TIPS. TECHNIC INTELLIGENCE PERSONALITY SPEED. ajax will never buy a player if 3 out of 4 from there system demands are not met. they believe you can teach 1 not 2. technic how a player controls the pall. intelligence does the player see the pass before he recieves the ball and can he play the ball with speed. we have bought players that would not pass the test, gerrard has them all that's why he is one the best midfielders in the world. malta

Spot on. RedTurk

13 Apr 2013 12:30:39
Dont want to piss on everyones cornflakes but if we were really looking at Eriksen, would we have have given Coutinho the #10 I think not.

That means naff all. What should matter to every player is the badge on the front, not the number on the back
DBol

Are you serious?! We are interested in eriksen and really want him. If we make an acceptable offer to the club and the player a deal will happen. Numbers mean absolutely nothing! El sharray wears 92 for Milan for god sake!

Don't think eriksen is interested in the badge!

13 Apr 2013 12:22:48
Any body on this page think that our defence is shocking? Carra hanging up the old boots, I really think ashley Williams is NOT the answer, he's 28 and we'd only have to replace the guy on a couple of years anyways so no thanks

13 Apr 2013 11:48:02
I see Michael laudrup has been qutoed as saying, he can't belive we paid £15m for Joe allen. to be honest neither can I, although a good player, never worth that kind of money. you'd think it would be lesson learned, but now rumours are rife that Brendan is about to sign Williams for a vastly overpriced fee, small club mentality I think.

Allen was our best player until he got injured. Short memory I see.

Small club mentality Carrol £35 mil Downing £20 mil Henderson £20 mil all under KD. RAfa £20 odd mil for Kean don't play him then give him back. Enough having a go at BR support the club or go elsewhere

13 Apr 2013 12:49:13
Allen was ok for us but media hyped him, as you all are Liverpool fans and see yor team week and week out, if you notice his weakneses are he needs lots of time on ball or to pass and have very slow reaction, once you press him fast he gets easily confuse and looses possession which is his main strength.

When you play for swansea no one notices or care about those weaknesses but once you play for Liverpool this things are magnified both by opposition and media, if you notice every team plays aginst Allen they press him fast and don't give him time on ball he easily gets knocked out of the game.

Most rated young British players are overpriced, you either take the risk and pay or miss out like we've done in the past, can also play ya own kids which is also a risk or import cheap players from abroad. Give the boy another season before you judge, plenty young players take time to find their feet after a big move.
Les

Allen will be a great player for us. Once fully fit. I just think his injury was managed wrong. Hence a slight dip in form. Early part of the season he was quality.

13 Apr 2013 13:52:03
Allen was our best player until he got injured. Short memory I see

you really haven't got a clue on Liverpool games.
he played over 30 games and he was awful for 20 odd games.

Harry he got injured after the ten games

13 Apr 2013 11:32:46
His views on Barca and his views on Dortmund are completely different. He wants to adopt a fluid passing style as evident in the Barca squad, whilst he's using Dortmund as an example of what can be achieved with a young manager and an inherent belief in young players. They're two completely different aspects of the game.

JFT 96

JP

Or perhaps he is combining the two?

I agree mate, my post was a response to The Guv who said BR is now using Dortmund blueprint when it was Barca before that. I was simply saying I can see BR's point with Dortmund, I don't think he's trying to emulate their team in any other way other than saying with young players and shrewd buying in raw talent you can achieve great success. This post wasn't a negative one.

13 Apr 2013 11:14:02
If your Suarez and you see we're signing Andreas Weimann and Ashley Williams for around 25million your probably thinking 'who? We need to match the fans and Luis ambition this summer and buy a player that is better than the one he's replacing. Reina-Mignolet? Skrtel-Williams? Weimann-Downing? If u ask me they're not that much of an improvement just probably a waste of money buying players for the sake of it.

13 Apr 2013 11:06:26
what about qpr gk cesar?

Ahoy - you ask about QPR keeper Cesar - I can tell you that his current club is the only Premier League club in history to have two goalkeepers names after salads - FACT

Real Madrid to offer Higuain, Alonso and Modrich for Suarez! Good deal?

Brad

The first ever three for one swap deal in history!

Not for our wage bill it's not!

An interesting hypothetical situation. swap modric for varane and even the biggest suarez fans will be thinking [FR]

Even if they did (which they wont). Alonso might agree to the deal and we might even convince Higuain but no way would Modric come to a team without CL (Thats why he left Spurs)

13 Apr 2013 09:24:22
After 19 games this season we had 25 points in total, in the 13 games since we have gained 24 points with another 18 points up for grabs out of the last 6 games.

The team has definitely improved in the second half of the season and the arrival of Sturridge and Coutinho and the return to form of Reina and Lucas plus Carras presence rather than the error prone Skrtle has given the team balance.

With numerous emerging young talent in various positions now knocking on the door and the summer additions of 4 maybe 5 new players depending upon who leaves BR will go into pre season with a very good squad of players, probably the best strength in depth we have had for years.

It's good to hear BR saying that he and his back room team of scouts have already identified players and he plans to add these at the earliest opportunity.

I'm sure BR will do everything he can in the summer transfer window to convince Suarez to stay, there's no question Suarez loves the club but the clubs summer transfer activity must match Suarez's ambitions too.

Curled1

Yeah we can't even win west ham so although I credit your enthausiasm I think its net really a perfect world after all

4 new quality players 2 defenders and a winger and possibly a goal keeper. Coates, carra, carrol and maybe skrtyel. I think we can improve on this season no doubt. Ynwa

13 Apr 2013 09:22:13
Here we go again. This time we want to be like Dortmund. its their blueprint that we need now not Barcelonas. maybe next month itll be Madrid.
Come on Rodgers you have a 4 thousand page book on successful systems put it to good use and stop looking at what everyone else is doing. Create our own blueprint that's what we want.
More importantly. keep your mouth shut till we're actually in a good position. all season its been the same, running your mouth when we need to get the pitch side of things right first. I for one wish he'd keep it schtum.
YNWA JFT96

13 Apr 2013 11:00:31
Calm down. Rodgers is trying to point out that you don't need to throw money to have success. some Liverpool fans like yourself can't see that.

"keep it schtum"

Practice what you preach Guv?

I have to agree with the Guv here lads, I like Rodgers and I think given the time he needs to slowly oust out the under performing over paid players and get in quality he'll suceed. I just think he might get carried away with were he's at sometimes when running his mouth off, I think he thinks its his duty to the fan's and club to make these statements "appeasing people" but in reality it comes over a tad naieve to people who know football.

13 Apr 2013 08:52:27
Slag me if you will, but I think we should go in for Andrei Arsevin in the summer. Wenger wants to sell him and I've always rated him especially if he is managed well. My points are:

(1) He will fit very well with the style of football Rodgers wants to play, with 433. If fact he can play
forward and midfield.

(2) True, he is getting on a bit, but would be a good squad player for a few years while we are blooding in the young lads. We need a ballance of experience and youth in the squad.

(3) We can't only keep looking at young lads to buy,
this always presents a risk of how they will turn out.
If you look at PSG, they have bought Levazzi and ibrahimovic who are in the twighlight years of their careers. But they will do well for PSG while they are in a rebuilding period.

(4) Arsevin has been a class player, he's one of the only player to score 4 goals at Anfield since the 40's and I think in the right environment he could still to the buisness.

Lord Lucan.

High wages and high signing on fee I would rather money be spent elsewhere
LFC Liam

He's a lazy player, never track back and never work hard for the team. What have he contribute in the attacking front for arsenal this season or last.

First of all, he would be a complete waste of money. Would rather just give Sterling and Ibe more chances. Secondly, Lavezzi is 27, hardly a player's twilight of their career. And the shape Ibra is in and the way he plays, he will be able to play at the top level until he is 35.

Hi. We are targeting 4 players in the summer:
Alderwield who I suspect will cost 5-8m
Williams who will probably cost 10-12m
Eriksen who will cost 12-16m
RW will also be signed but I don't know who we are targeting. I suspect Ben arfa.

There will be a lot of outgoings with kids being the given the opportunity to take their places.

And only williams would come!

Watching the u18s tonight, there is a lot to be positive about. OK the performance wasn't as good as we'd hoped, but the players we have in the u18s and u21s are something to be positive about. We have huge talent especially this year in our youth ranks. If most of these players can fulfill their potential, we could have some very talented young players at our disposal. Some may say that they were rubbish tonight, not good enough for Liverpool etc, but these guys are still young and already have incredible talent. Allow for another few years of development and maturing and we have some very special players. It will take a few more years for them to be first-team regulars but I feel it will be worth the wait! Maybe its just me being over-positive but that's my views anyway.
Cheers,
LS7.

Ed 002 chelsea have loaned out soo many players the musht at least 10 to 15 if not more loaned out,,
Do you think brendan will do the same next season with coady robinson texiera etc

Basy {Ed002's Note - Chelsea has more than 20 players out on loan but I don't see how this would drive anything Liverpool does.}
